And you figured you were on the way to city anyway, so why not? Might as well make a few coins on the way. You took out the bandit leader Black Teeth. After he decimated most of the party, and Talot was bitten. Which may or may not become infected. It would probably be a good idea to get that checked out at some point, but... You know, just pretty gross, nonetheless. You guys have continued your way to Brightport, which is a fairly large trade hub. The city is owned by three separate houses. There's House Hammerhand, which is a company of hired mercenaries.

These are companions. Someone you can hire. Just like the stuff you encountered on the road. You can hire these people, and for a price, they'll usher you back and forth. You can hire them to kill someone. I mean, their standards are pretty low. Everyone in Brightport, their standards are pretty low. It's been nicknamed the City of Thieves. It has a few nicknames, but none of them are very good. There's House Darksbane, which is a house of wizards, occultists, warlocks, necromancers, that kind of thing. If it's magic, they're into it. And House Silverclaw, which is a house comprised of assassins and thieves, that kind of thing.

Now, together, they own the majority of Brightport. Which means any money made from ports or there's a percentage for merchants to set up shop, they all divide that money equally. So, they pretty much have everything you could want covered. Brothels and... it's not a great place in terms of... If you're lawful goods, something like that, probably not going to be your favorite place to visit. But, if you're looking to make money, then this is the place to... And for now, I just... Rikas is holding on to your potion. You guys got a Potion of Cure, Minor Wounds, and 150 gold last time you played.

So... and you also all got enough experience to level up. We've all taken care of that. So, walking through the city of Brightport, you guys are flagged over into a dark alley. Totally up to you if you'd like to go into there, but there is a small gnome down an alleyway, in pretty dapper clothing, who is kind of beckoning you down into the alleyway. Rikas would probably say, while he feels uneasy, that if the group would feel wanting to go, that he would be willing to be the first person to walk down there, given the fact that he's a giant piece of man meat.

Okay. And see, Galford would probably be okay with walking over there, but the rest of the group would wonder if this is something that he's set up, or kind of what his intentions are. If it's another gnome, maybe it's somebody that knows Galford. However, should I be doing a streetwise check, and we'll just get the lay of the land, or... Oh, totally up to you. Okay. Now, my skills, there's nothing that shows the description of what these skills could get me. All this will essentially get me is more information about the area, right? Well, for streetwise, yeah, that's more of a, what's the word on the street type of thing, whereas perception is more what you scope out with your eyes.

What you scope out with your eyes. Okay. Well, why don't we do a streetwise check, because my streetwise is like plus 11, and maybe we can get a little bit of a... A little bit of a vibe of what's going on. Maybe get the word of what this guy might be up to. Yeah, your character's pretty sleazy, so he's probably... I'm feeling right at home already, like... Now, what most people don't know is that these three houses are constantly at war with each other. There is a checks and balances system in the Golden Dragon, so there's these small Golden Dragon idols. Each house owns one, and these are used to... there are these huge meetings that they have in the city, and that's basically what gives you a vote. Anyone who possesses these gets a third of the share of Brightport.

So these are all under lock and key, heavily protected. But obviously other people are trying to steal them from each other. Constantly, and that's the problem. It's not two houses that are... the three of them. So none of them trust each other, and when you're living in a place called the City of Thieves, it's probably constantly beset. So whoever's in charge of guarding that for a particular house has got to be pretty... either pretty large or pretty powerful, or both. So yeah, when there's not much money on the line, that's kind of a Game of Thrones-y type of thing, where people will just cut each other's throat to get just a little closer to one of those dragons.

So that's pretty much the big thing that's going on in Brightport. Hmm. Which makes me wonder what this guy wants. You could probably take a guess after. That descriptor we just got? Rikas leans calmly against this war hammer and looks at the rest of the group and asks whether or not they would feel comfortable doing this. I'll go over. Do we need to stop and pick up some healing potions first, or should we go see what this guy wants? Because we do have some gold now, I guess, right? Uh, yeah. Just in case we get jumped by a whole bunch of weirdos. In the City of Thieves?

Come on! Why would that happen? It could be like, you know, Jehovah's Witnesses or like, you know, someone just trying to sell something, and I mean... So this little gnome... Let me set the mood here. Hold on a second. There. There we go. Ooh! Yeah. Nice little back alley. So once you guys are all kind of under this little bridge back here in the shadows in the alley, this little gnome speaks up and says, "Graddick the Wanted, at your service." I'm kidding. Rickus would grip his war hammer a little tighter than he had. It's the wanted part, isn't it? It always spooks the newcomers. Dare I ask why the wanted? No, don't ask. [laughs] It's best if you don't. Fair enough. What can we do for you? I can't help but notice that you are new in town.

Oh really? We stand out that much? Yeah, why would you say that? I'm fairly connected to the citizens of Brightport and I've never seen any of you before. [clears throat] F. Last time I checked we were a package deal, I don't go by myself. Oh, you can take your friends. I'll pay you all handsomely if you can get this small deed accomplished. What's the meaning? Riekis at this point will kind of step away from the group a little bit to act like he's looking around to see if anybody's looking, but suddenly becomes a little bit uncomfortable with the discussion that's going on. You also notice in the commotion that Rok has gone missing from your group. [laughs] You lost him somewhere between the gates and this alley, but he is no longer with the group.

You want the Kmart? [laughs] He's talking to the Jehovah's Witnesses and they're, you know, he's buying Bibles or something. Like some guy, some infomercial type guy stopped him. [laughs] Alright, so what is this deed that you want me to accomplish? I represent House Silverclaw and we're looking to... Do you know anything about the Golden Dragons? Not really. Okay, it's not important. All I need you to do is break into a house, preferably at night, and steal a small object for me. I guess it's a gold dragon. How did you know? [laughs] We have our sources too.

So Galford kind of steps in and gets a little closer to this guy and says, "Well, you know, we're both gnomes here and let's let down a little bit of the pretense. We do know what the gold dragons are. So how does a gnome such as yourself get such a prominent position in House Silverclaw?" Well, I'm a man who has been known to come by things from time to time. Okay. So besides money, what would be in it for us in doing this little deed for you? So, you know, come on, we're both gnomes here. I got a great faux hawk. [laughs] That you do, sir. I respect that head of hair. [laughs] I'm sending you to House Darksbane if you accept this quest.

Anything in there that you can take and hold is yours. All we want is the gold dragon. Who's we? Rika's at this point is visibly uncomfortable. House Silverclaw, of course. Because he's the representative. Okay. He's their man on the streets. Yeah, all he wants is that gold dragon and he's willing to pay you for it. Anything you guys can steal, carry, whatever you can get out of there, it's completely up to you. Okay. House Darksbane is the wizard fortress, essentially, so there's going to be a shitload of magic items and such and such. Okay. Well, you know, stealing a gold dragon from one of the other houses is obviously a pretty big deal.

So who, you know, who's, this isn't just specifically your idea. Who else is, you know, has tasked you with finding people to complete this for Silverclaw? This is a pretty important thing. Should we be talking with, you know, the people that have, you know, essentially sent you out into the city to find adventurers like ourselves? Oh, that's the reason I'm their representative. You don't want to meet with these people, trust me. Okay. Not exactly people persons. Now, you know, Galcom kind of steps back a little bit and, you know, wants to huddle the group and have a little talk and sort of reassure Rika that we're not just going to do this.

That we're not just going to dive headfirst into, you know, like stealing and killing. Okay. Can we do any other type of skills to read anything else off this guy or should we make a decision? You can do an insight check. Okay, who's got some insight? That's a good question. I have a plus five. I have a plus four. I have a plus eight. Seems like a tricksy thing. Plus, wow, geez, yeah. Plus eight, I guess that's the way to go. And that's, is that D20? D20, any check is D20. Okay. D20 plus eight? Yes. Fourteen. Okay. You don't, you don't get a feeling from him that he's telling you the whole truth.

But there's nothing, there's nothing about what he's saying that seems like a blatant lie either. So Rika's will, while we're all huddled together and he's kind of, the gnome is off discussing, the wanted, whatever his name was, was off, he's off looking at us. Rika's will grip his war hammer a little tighter and gently gesture towards the gnome and ask why we should really trust this guy since he just kind of pulled us into a dark alley. You're asking the group that? Yes, I'm asking the group's opinion of why they feel like we should trust this guy given the fact he just kind of like pulled us into a dark alley and said he had crack cocaine to sell.

Well, I'm not saying that we trust him, but we do need money. And the whole point, you know, us coming in here is we want to gain more money. This is the first, you know, offer that we've had, whether it be far from legitimate or not. It might be something that we can look into. Well, the only thing I could think of as like ulterior motive for this guy is that he might not really be representing Silverclaw. He might have business with them in some way and that he is getting the statue for them, but he's really getting more money out of it than we would.

Like they're paying him on his plans. Oh, he's definitely a middleman. I feel like this guy is wanting to get into that management position and he's wanting to get somebody else to do the work for him in order to get the benefit of it. What I see as an opportunity to screw this guy over, because now we know what he looks like, you know, he's told us his name. Now we can potentially try and approach someone from the other house, the House of Warlocks, etc. What was the name of the other house? Darksbane is the one that he is, yeah. I am a Warlock and a manipulative prick, so maybe we could go, you know, say, "Okay, well we're considering accepting your offer.

Where can we find you later in the day? We need to, you know, get some materials and go look for Rock, because he's disappeared, in order to move on a bit." And then maybe we could find a representative of the other house and say, "You know, we were approached by this guy, you know, with this offer. We know you probably want the Golden Dragon too. We're obviously a formidable group. What type of services can we provide for you?" And then we've got a bargaining chip with the next house to say, "Hey, we passed up getting hired by this initial guy to come to you, because you're obviously the strongest house." You know, and lie a little bit.

And then see if we can kind of put ourselves into a little bit more advantageous position before we take a job from these houses. Boy, you got a whole plan worked out there, don't you? Mm-hmm. I was going to say, with a plan like that, Rekis would not be happy with it. Yeah, because there's a lot of deception lies involved in there. A lot of deception, a lot of lie, but I think given the circumstances, he would not be happy with it, and he would probably end up, like, if something went wrong, getting a little angry at Galford. Would he be upset to us, maybe saying, "Well, think about it.

Where can we meet you?" And then maybe researching the other houses a little bit more to see if maybe, you know, he is part of a more trustable house, or maybe not? Because, remind me, Silverclaw is Wedge House again, isn't that just like the mercenary- Assassins and thieves, mostly, yeah. Hammerhand is the, uh- Mercenaries, yeah. Yeah. So I think Galford's kind of rubbing his hands together, going like, you know, "Let's just not, you know, blow our load on the first guy we see." Like, this place is just a playground for a guy, like- True enough, but- Let's not blow our load on the first guy we see.

I definitely wouldn't go for the mercenary, the hammer, or whatever. Hammerhand. Hammerhand. I wouldn't go for Hammerhand, ever, simply because they're mercenaries. They're out for the highest bidder. At least assassins, as far as I know, have some kind of code to them. Uh, yeah. We probably don't know enough about the houses yet to maybe determine, you know, what some of their, you know, kind of codes or behaviors are like. But, you know, we have no notoriety yet, so we may want to play around in the city a little bit and determine what would be most advantageous for us, whether we want money, whether we want information, that type of thing.

This guy seems like such a peon that we'd just be setting ourselves up to get double-crossed. Mmm. And Rikus is getting a little nervous, too, so we kind of want to reassure him and say- This entire town makes Rikus nervous. Yeah, it does. Yeah. His very presence in here makes him nervous. Rikus is- his knuckles are turning white, how tight he's gripping his war hammer. Yeah, but if we all could agree on it, he might not be as worried. So Grattic is watching you guys parse this out for a while, you're kind of debating among yourselves, and he steps up and says, "I am prepared to pay upwards of 2,000 gold pieces?" Rikus would politely use his war hammer and push him back a little bit and say, "We're still talking." So he stumbles backwards a bit.

Rikus is no-nonsense. Clearly. Why don't we just tell him we'll get back to him so we can discuss this without him over our shoulder? Let's try and find out a little bit more about this guy. Because I think this little gnome is making Rikus upset anyways, so... We don't have any proof, really, that this guy is actually an associate of Silverclaw anyways. This could just be a story he's making up in order to say, "Oh, this is where you find the golden dragon." And we go and it's just some warehouse near the wharf, and we just get jumped and stabbed and robbed by his group of thugs, and he has nothing to do, really, with any of the houses.

Well, someone else could try an insight check. Yeah, that's true. What else we got for insight? The next biggest is... Plus fours. Plus five. I have a plus five. Yeah. Give it a shot. No, that's why we have the plus fours and the plus fives. 20. Woo, 20. So, after he leans in and he says he can pay upwards of 2,000 gold, that you absolutely believe. There's something about that that just rings true.

He would pay you for that. And you do believe he is a member of House Silverclaw. Okay. Fair enough. I do actually agree we should probably poke around the other houses at least a little bit. Yeah, I think so too. Because 2,000 gold seems like a paltry sum compared to controlling the economic fate of the entire city. So, these guys, 2,000 gold is nothing for the three different houses that are probably playing around here. Yeah, especially if you share that information with us that that's what the gold dragon is. We're like, "What? What now?" We're supposed to steal something that would...

Well, he was not prepared to share that with you. That was something you guys, that was something that, uh, that, uh, Galford just kind of gleamed off the streets. But that's what I'm saying. If Galford shared that information with us, we... Of course, I definitely agree we should poke around a little more. Especially if we're going to be taking something where if we held onto it, we would be controlling one third of, like, the entirety of this city. Yeah, I want to know how good of it, how decent an idea it is that I'm giving it away. Yeah, I want one of the people on top of these houses to hire us to get something like that, not just a regular peon.

I'd rather us be able to... You know, influence is more powerful than authority kind of thing, so we need to be in a position where we have more influence over people. And, uh, finding out how high the houses go and, you know, some of the relationships between them, I think would benefit us a bit better. So, let's tell him that we'll pass on his offer, we'll get back to him, but, uh, you know, being gnomes, we'll know where to find each other, and, uh, you know, we can discuss... You guys can meet at the clubhouse. Yeah, we meet at the gnome brothel, and, uh, you know, we'll chat over some...

I mean, are these... So, let me describe what these houses are. Um, these houses are essentially, uh, the largest buildings in the city. Um, most of them are in the outskirts. The two, uh, Darksbane and, uh, Silverclaw, those are both more on the outskirts of the city, whereas Hammerhand is smack dab in the center.

Um, uh, Hammerhand is the only one that you can just freely visit, because that acts as more of a, uh, like a... You can go there and hire people, so it's... it's... it's a weird way to put it. It's almost like a brothel, where you go in and you go, "Oh, I'd take you, you, and you," and then you hire those people and they accompany you on whatever journey you're going through. So, if you're exploring a cavern, or you're just running some goods down a dangerous place you know you're probably going to get assaulted, then you pick a few of these people.

Um, Silverclaw and Hammerhand are a little... Silverclaw and Darksbane are a bit more exclusive, where no one really goes into House Darksbane, because they... they have no goods to sell in terms of, uh... like, you can't hire any of them. They're not really... it's more of an arcane library type of thing, and Silverclaw, you kind of have to be involved in some shadowy shit to... to... to hire a member of them, because you're hiring someone to kill someone else is pretty much what you're doing, or steal something. So, if we were to try to investigate at least the two houses that we're currently fairly aware of...

Yes. I'd say... Rekis and Trixie would probably be better off going to, um... Silverclaw, and then Galford and I go to, um, Darksbane. Oh, so you want to split up? Divide and Conquer, man. We can meet up later and swap notes. Yeah, but what if one of us gets jumped because we knew we just wanted into this place? We're gonna have pairs! The City of Thieves! Come on! The City of Thieves. That's, like... I think I would... personally I would be kind of okay with it, because it would be able to tackle two birds with one stone, but it's just... like, given the fact that the first thing we do when we get into the city is get pulled into a dark alley and meet with a gnome, like...

A shady gnome. Rekis is... Rekis is about to pop some blood vessels, the way he's dripping us. One shady gnome is, like, enough for Rekis. So, meanwhile, Galford's already coming up with a plan of how we go to House Hammerhand and tell them we have a mule slave who would make an excellent mercenary that we've trained him. And, conveniently, Rekis just knocks Galford's head off. That's not to say! I was gonna say, then, uh, then, you know, we could get a man on the inside by trying to, uh, to offer our services as mercenaries and see if we could get hired into Hammerhand and work our way to the top that way.

Galford's got lots of irons in the fire here. You guys are always having to try and rein him in. R-Rekis... I'm gonna pretend like Rekis didn't hear that. I was about to say, Rekis has to pretend he didn't hear about half of what was just said. But, the reason I decided, I think, that we should just kind of pair up that way is because, first of all, Trixie could pass herself off as being into some pretty dark shit. And, um, R-Rekis, he's a pretty tough dude. I don't think that the assassins would have a huge problem thinking about, "Oh, let's test your skill!

Let's see how good you are!" That's just kind of like a spar type of thing. If he was making, like, "Oh, I wanna try and join up with you guys." So, but if you separate me and Rekis from you guys, doesn't Rekis have the potion and you're our healer? Like, can you see how that would backfire? You're our healer even though you're kind of crap because you have one healing spell? I think it would make us more appealing, too, to some of the houses if we were all bunched together. Because, wow. Yeah, they're getting a package deal. While, like, it's a little bit easier to go, "Oh, we're only two people and they would pay us a certain amount and they can figure out the split money." I think it's a lot easier to go, "We have a lot of skilled people with us that would be able to take care of your problem if there was one." And this is me talking and not Rekis, just so we're clear, because I think Rekis would probably not be saying anything I just said.

I'm just not sure how well Darkspane would feel about having this kind of divvied up a group anywhere near them is my thing. Yeah, the Darkspane would probably be pretty exclusive because they're a bunch of, you know, kind of pretentious warlocks kind of thing and much more magic arcane based. We wouldn't even be able to get past the front door with them because they're kind of into their own stuff. We'd probably be better off going with the mercenaries or the assassins if we want to try and glean a little bit more information. We can take turns who they perceive as leading the group, depending on the house that we go in.

That's true, yeah, because at least Galford's a warlock. The other thing is, has this gnome dude totally disappeared? We can't tail him? Well, he didn't get far, he just went down another alley, that's all. Okay, do we want to follow him? See where he goes? Or do we want to maybe... I mean, wouldn't we all have to do a stealth check so we wouldn't know that we're following him? Yeah. Or you'd have to stealth him by yourself. Because, I'm sorry, a couple of us are like a couple of elephants here. Well, my first stealth check ever was not very good, but the thing is...

Well, now you're level two, that could completely change the game. Okay, so how far do they have to be back so they don't have to stealth while I'm doing it? At least I'm not alone. The way we could do it, and this is up to you, I mean, you could just keep a really safe distance from him and do a stealth check and follow him so he at least wouldn't recognize that he's being tailed. Right. Or, because you have a plus 13 for stealth. Yeah, right. That's pretty awesome. Or you could all try to go as a unit, or they could follow some distance behind you. Yeah, I think if we actually followed some distance behind her...

This guy's alone, and I already toppled him over with my hammer. Yeah, the guy's not much of a fighter. He's like my little brother, "Hey, get away. Put 'em out, put 'em out." That is an excellent stealth check. So you stealth behind this tiny gnome as he zigzags. You're noticing that he's avoiding the main streets. Like, he is slipping behind houses and inns and, like, all the dark alleys, like, all the back.

And the sun is getting ready to set, so it's particularly dark anyway, but this is the kind of... The way the city's set up, even at high noon, there's plenty of shadowy alleys to hide in. Like, somehow, there's plenty of overhangs and bridges and multiple tiers. So you follow this gnome for about ten minutes, and you watch him go onto a main street only to walk into a large black and silver building. And there is a large dragon's claw, like, on a stone in front of the building. So, uh, you pretty much guess that this is House Silverclaw. Hmm. Interesting.

It's odd that he would avoid going on main roads, though. That's what's intriguing Rikus. 'Cause he is the wanted, but wanted by who? Is he trying to avoid getting assassinated by one of the other houses? That's kind of what I would think, is that if he's sneaking around, it's because he's... Did he go into the Silverclaw's house? Yes, he walked right in. There was a... The door opened as he approached it, and then closed after he walked in. And I assume now Trixie comes back to us, or have we followed her? You were supposed to be following me, like, just far enough back that...

I didn't know if you were coming back to the alley being like, "Hey, what's up?" but, or, um... No, we were following her to the point where we were far enough back where we wouldn't have to make stealth checks, only she would. Mm-hmm. Okay. Hmm. Well, you should pro... If it's getting nighttime, we should probably find a place to stay. Yeah. Now we at least know for sure that, yes, he's a part of this house, and to what extent we don't know. But we do know that he's possibly avoiding the other houses. Or whatever authorities there may be. Yes, authorities in a city of thieves.

Well, there's gotta be some kind of law. Come on. Even if it is by thieves. Okay, is there, like, any sorts of, like, inns or anything that... Oh, yeah, there's, there's inns. Yeah, you can... If you'd like to check into an inn and stay for the night, sure. Reekis might... Is there one here here? Can I do an insight check on the building he went into? If this was the Silverclaw building, to be able to walk in there, kind of right after this guy, and be, you know, "Alright, who has a little bit more authority in here than this fellow? He had an offer for us, but we want to hear a little bit more about it from someone that has, you know, has more and more authority than this, this, uh, you know, wanted gnome we met in the back alley, 'cause, you know, this is, this is an important task you want us to do, and, you know, we know what the gold dragons are, but you want to hire us, kind of thing, so, I mean, we may want to go for an inn, and go to an inn and have a sleep and talk about this kind of thing, but, um, you know, Rikas would have to kind of maintain the illusion that we're presenting ourselves as more than we are by just kind of walking in and, uh, being more arrogant about why they should hire us kind of thing.

Take me to your leader kind of approach. I gotcha. Yeah. I think, I think Rikas would probably handle those situations the same way he did when he actually tried to intervene on our conversation, and that would just be taking his slight uncomfortable and slight anger and kind of conveying that as like, "Yeah, we're tough, and I'm completely cool with this." Yeah. So, uh, Talon rolled a 19 for Perception. Okay. So, across, so, what you're in, you're in an alley right now, across, uh, the street is House Silverclaw. So, uh, as soon as the gnome walks in, again, you don't see who opened the door, you don't see who closed it, but he just kind of walks up and with a confidence try, he knew someone would just be on the opposite end of that door.

And it closed. Um, in the window adjacent to the door, uh, there's a drow, and, uh, you don't notice him until after the gnome walks in. And immediately after that, you make eye contact with this drow, who is just eyeballing Trixie from across the street, Caesar plain as day. And then you see him motion, you see him motion like he's waving someone over. And then, uh, the gnome, then you see the, the, the Graddock the gnome walk over, and, uh, the, the drow motions with his head, and the gnome points across the street, and you can see them conversing.

No one makes a motion though, there's no, no one leaves the house, there's no activity beyond that, just, they both walk away from the window. Hmm. Okay, so we haven't done anything wrong. No, but they noticed us. They noticed us, yeah. Which means that maybe they're mad at him because we followed him and he was not aware. Maybe we just got him in trouble. That would sound great. His boss is totally gonna chew him out. Well why don't we try to find an inn near here, so if maybe, you know, maybe we can kind of keep track of what he's doing, but still, you know, sleep and whatnot.

Mm-hmm. Buy a potion, have some drinks, you know. Sure. Maybe get some info. So there's an inn called The Shelter near here, near House Silverclaw actually, so you can either check in there, do you, now, let's see, how much are those potions? Just to make absolutely sure, I believe they're 20 gold a pop. Pretty certain, let me... And how much is it to actually stay in the inn? Five gold a night, let's say. Per person or just in general? Per person. I mean, that's... This is a pretty big trade hub, so I mean, it's a pretty bustling... it's a happening town, so...

It's a happening town, it's Las Vegas. Let me make sure here of inventory here, marketplace, potions. I was gonna say, I have 51 gold. Yeah, I was... I have 78. Alright. Potion of 20 gold, yeah. Sweet. Well, if nobody else objects, we can go stay at The Shelter. Yeah, let's do it. I could use a potion too. The whole time while we're walking there too, Galford's trying to convince Rikas to relax a little bit, maybe gamble, meet an attractive female in the inn, and he's just kind of winking and sort of walking circles around him, just talking a mile a minute.

Rikas is just shaking his head. Yeah, exactly. I mean, Rikas is kind of cracking a smile in the sense that, like, you know, like, here, I wish this guy would shut up, but at the same time, you know, he can't quite peg whether Galford is trying to be manipulative or whether he's actually legitimately saying, you know, well, you know, we're in lots of opportunities here in the city, you know, think of all the things we can do, and Galford's just in his element, like, just absolutely wants to... He's looking for opportunities to manipulate people at every corner of the street, and the rest of the group is sort of, you know, a little bit more reserved, but...

Making your way to this inn, you see everything from beggars on the street, there's people playing some variant of Three Card Monte, like, just the place is just packed with grifters, people selling, like, bogus jewelry, people, like, just the worst. It's just the worst. Let me run down the line here. Who's buying a potion? No, I'll take one. Okay, so that is negative, and then you're staying in the inn, so there. Um... What kind of... is it just, like, a regular potion? The way it works is, you can drink it as a minor action in combat, and you gain 1d8+1, and it acts as if you've taken one of your healing surges.

Okay, I mean, um... And it's grape flavored. It sounds great. It stops. Um... Oh, I... I don't even know what to say anymore. Um... I'll take one. Alrighty. Probably wouldn't be bad to have, especially if I'm gonna start being the tank. Probably wouldn't be a terrible thing to have. It would not. So you have two potions. Should I have the one we got already? Bam. Uh, Tala, you wanna get a potion too? I'm good. Alrighty. Uh, Trixie? Yeah, that's fine. Okay. Interesting. Can I wake up? You sure can, if you like. Okay, I'm waking up, because even though I'm stealthy, I don't sleep... I sleep very lightly. Okay. I'm always nervous someone's gonna do something. Let's get up and look at this. Rika's halfway in his sleep grabs his hammer, and immediately looks up. Rika's grabs his hammer in his sleep? I don't wanna hear about that.

He calls it the hammer, too. He's sleeping in the nude, and he calls it the hammer, yeah. That's pretty ballsy. That's to frighten off predators. Yeah, I don't wanna know what rustling he's doing under the covers of his hammer. We get it. Okay, well, Tricky gets up and turns on a light. Like, she lights the lantern or whatever. I was about to say, there's no... yeah, let's not... Yeah, I get up and turn on a lantern to see what's going on. Across the room, you see the same drow that was looking at you from across the street in House Silverclaw. Dude, why are you stalking me?

Well, it's not... maybe it's not you. You're just being narcissistic now. Come on. Yeah, I am a little bit. It's okay. He is stalking you, though. Oh, God, I just disturbed my dog. You realize you're probably one of the few female drowies seen, probably, in a while? Yeah, that's what I figured. And he's perched on the ground as if he's going to leap at someone. But then he just stands up and says, "Please, don't be alarmed." What the hell are you doing in my room? Are we all awake at this point? Yeah, I would imagine everyone's pretty much awake. Because Rekis is now sitting up in bed and looking at the situation like this.

Rekis, please pull the blanket up over you, please. Rekis is lonely. I would imagine Rekis is a slightly heavier sleeper, too. I don't know why, but that's just how I imagine him. And he says, "My name is Seraph. I've come here to barter with you. I understand you met my colleague earlier today?" Yes. What do you want to barter? Uh, he offered you a job. Yeah, and... I'd like to know why you didn't accept it. What, we walk into a city and first thing, some gnome comes up to us and, you know, five seconds into being here, we take on a job where, "Oh, look, we find out we're wanting to steal..." Calm down, Calvin.

Calm down. Calm down. He was shady. I get very cranky when my sleep is interrupted. Go back to bed, then. Just ignore the guy that broke into our room. Okay, so this guy pulls us down an alley that we don't know and offers us a job and gives us no information. Why would we even consider that? Galford's kind of sitting on the edge of the bed, kind of like playing with his fingernails, doesn't seem alarmed at all, and he just says, you know, "Frankly, it's a job. We're businessmen. We want to learn a little more about the city. We want to maximize our opportunities.

Why would we jump at the first thing?" And frankly, 2,000 gold is a paltry sum to steal the item in question that we're talking about. So, let's kind of drop the pretenses here and say that this is a pretty important job. What he offered us was kind of an insult if you look at what our group is like. At that he kind of sighs and says, "Fine. I'm sorry about your apprehension towards this, but time is of the essence. Name your price." Hmm. Why is time so pertinent now? Are you asking him this, or are you just... Yeah. Yes, I'm asking. We've received some information that House Darksbane is going to make a move against our house within the week.

Rikas would ask why they can't look internally to protect themselves, and why they need to outsource their responsibilities to their house to a bunch of strangers. He laughs at this and is like, "Have you met anyone in this town?" No, we're new as you got up earlier. If you did, you'd understand why that's funny. You can't trust anyone in the City of Thieves. Okay, so explain to me why I'm supposed to trust someone who just snuck into our room in the middle of the night. That's an excellent question. He laughs. That won't get an answer. Again, I'm afraid I can't wait till morning.

I need someone on this case. If you won't do it, I understand, but I need to find someone. Before we even consider this, is there anything you're going to do to sweeten the deal? Giving us money is one thing, but you want us to go into somewhere that we think might be more of a threat than you're letting on, and you're not going to give us anything but gold after we complete it? You can keep anything you steal from their house. It's of no concern to me. You're not giving us anything to get in there to begin with. What type of steps are you taking to shore up the defenses at House Silverclaw?

Would we be more beneficial to you defending your house as opposed to stealing this particular item? Wouldn't someone that knows a little bit more about the city and about your opponents be better? We're not necessarily a group of thieves. We're more of a group that could defend your house from impending attack. Good question. He kind of clams up at this and he says, "I'm afraid I can't talk about House Silverclaw or its defenses in any intricate detail." Fair enough to me. I don't blame you. I don't trust us either. Well, no. It's because we're not part of their house.

They really don't have a feasible reason to be giving us some intimate details of their defense systems here. Well, also if we fail, they have plausible deniability too. If we fail, it doesn't necessarily implicate Silverclaw as attacking. So we are free agents, essentially, if we fail. That's kind of the checks and balances system. No house is allowed to openly move against another house. But that doesn't mean... I mean, you're living in a city where 10% of the denizens are... they belong to either of the three houses, which means there's 90% of the people just looking to scrape and claw their way past.

So it's not hard to find someone. But then, I mean, there's double and triple backstabbing going on. That was something you had brought up. Instantly walking in, it's like, "Well, now we know what they want. Let's go to another house and outsource that as information." Yeah. So that's... I mean, that's... That's kind of what I'm thinking too, that if coming to us in the middle of the night and feigning that they're desperate for an answer makes it look like we're in an advantageous position that we can just name our price, but essentially, we're probably going to get double crossed in this anyways.

We may be better off denying his offer, going to House Blackthorne with this information and saying, "We hear you're coming from a position of power, and we're here to offer our services," kind of thing. We need to be the ones making the offer as opposed to being manipulated into what looks like an advantage. Well, okay. Just to be clear, what are you asking for? Because Trixie brought up something where... Are you asking for something that would make it easier for you to get in, or are you asking for just a sweeter pot? I think, well, Trixie was asking about getting information about how we would break in and how we would do it and what time of day.

Is that right, Trixie? I guess what I'm asking is that... The thing is, I'm not necessarily looking for more money. I mean, yes, we want more money, but they're not providing us armor. They're not providing us weapons. They're not giving us anything that would help our chances. They're just saying, "Go in and steal this, and if you make it, you make it. If you don't, you don't." They're not giving us anything to help us. They're just telling us to go do it. So that leads me to believe that maybe there's not as much to be believed on their end, but at the same time, if we try to go to a different house, how do we know that they're telling the truth?

We have no way of knowing one way or the other who is the more powerful house. Maybe they're coming to us because they're trying to prevent a less powerful house or a more powerful house from trying to take the upper hand when they don't have the manpower. They're not giving us any advantage. They're just going to pay us if we do it. They're treating us like mercenaries. Right. I want some kind of... I mean, before I even consider it, I want them to be offering me something a little bit more substantial than just money. Something that will even the odds, if not put them in our favor, to enter this house without the fear of immediately dying or being attacked.

And we know they won't give us any people. They won't give us anyone who's overclocked to accompany us. They could give us armor. They could give us weapons. They could give us something other than just money if they really wanted this bad. Well, here's the deal. If they do want something this bad, then they're going to owe us big time. So, yeah, there's financial gain involved, but as far as they're concerned, and as far as I'm concerned, they owe us one hell of a favor. So, as far as I can say, we can come to them at some kind of later date and just be like, "Hey, we need you to do this thing for us.

You owe us this shit." But who? But this is a town of thieves. Who said they have any code of honor? Yeah. Who said they're going to hold up to that? Well... Yeah, you owe us. Well, screw you. You were dumb enough to do it to begin with. Well, I mean, let's... Okay, being realistic, like, let's say you pull this off. Let's say you guys break in and you steal this golden dragon. They still have to possess it to gain any... So, I mean, you guys would be holding this thing. So, they're just as much taking a risk on you as you are on them. They're trusting that we're going to actually give it to them in the first place.

Right. Knowing that you guys already know what it represents and what... You know, that's why he's saying name your price because this is... Think of it this way. You guys would be basically trading this... Like, okay, if you win the lottery, you get a choice between two options. You can take a lump sum of cash, but it's not going to be worth as much as if it were to be doled out over a long period of time. So, you guys would be basically, you know, taking a lump sum of cash. They're saying name your price because this is going to be worth more in the long run.

We can afford to pay it. Okay, so I guess the question would be then what... I guess what would be... What would we ask for that would make it worth it for everyone in the party, including scared naked rikus who's sitting in his bed very confused as to what's going on? He's sucking his thumb right now. Just rocking back and forth in this position. Like, I mean, you have to think about this. Like, our heavy hitter needs to be somewhat comfortable with this. I feel kind of like this is the grift they pull on everyone new that walks into town. Anybody that walks into town has a big sign that says "Sucker".

They get pulled into the alley by whoever and they show up and this guy shows up in the inn or the... And, you know, to put someone in the position to try and do this. So, they have lots of people, lots of irons in the fire for plausible deniability. If someone actually pulls it off, okay, maybe they compensate them financially or whatever too. But the ultimate power they would gain would be so huge. But you might as well just keep trying to hire a bunch of suckers as soon as they walk into town to try and do this for you. I will say this. Rikus, I don't believe, unless some sort of situation presented itself, would ever be completely comfortable with this.

Well, I'm not saying completely, but enough that he would go. Yeah, like, it would... I'm trying to think... He's not going to have to be happy about it. He can, you know, knock us over with his hammer every now and then. But, like, I mean, something that would not get him to the point where he's, like, running the other direction saying no. Well, the other thing is that this isn't... No innocents are being screwed over in this. This isn't a thing where they're stealing from it. No one's innocent here, so it's not... It's not... I mean, yes, this isn't... Like, stealing is wrong and dicking someone over and wrong and lying is wrong, all that stuff.

But, I mean, it's not... It's almost the lesser of two evils. Right, it's not... That's the thing I'm thinking we may have to convince Rikus more than anything, is that stealing the gold dragon is going to... and giving it to Silverclaw is going to be the lesser of the two evils of letting, first of all, Darkspane keep it, and second of all, letting Darkspane pull whatever attack they're going to pull on Silverclaw. The other thing is that... I mean, the name your price thing doesn't have to just... I mean, whatever you guys want, like, come up with a counterproposal and give it to them.

There's also an insight check you could roll. I mean, it's, you know... Yeah, so I think we need to maybe do an insight check to find out if this is a big grift, or at the same time determine we're not going to live in this town forever, so we might as well use it as much as it's using us. Or at least that's what Gelford would do. And the other thing too is, you know, what else do we want? Do we want passage by ship? Do we want, you know, some hired guns to come and help us out? Do we want jobs? Do we want positions of power in the houses and we'll hang around here for a while?

So we don't have a goal in sight. I mean, eventually we'll find what happened to Rock and we'll mourn his death, but... [laughter] Proposed him dead already, alright. He's been gone for hours, guys. He's dead, right? I mean, he's dead. In this town, possibly, or imprisoned. Yeah, he's been hired by a brothel and, you know... To do what? [imitates gun noises] I mean, it's totally up to you. So in Brightport, the more important a person you are, the more people want to kill you. Because that's, I mean, everyone wants to be the important person, but the higher you are up on the totem pole, the more of a target you've got painted on your back.

I think asking for protection at the very minimum, like, you know, I don't know if that means becoming part of their house or at least, you know, requiring their protection as long as we are in this town, would not be so bad. Because at least we have some kind of buffer between us and the other houses if we succeed. Another thing is, you're under the impression that they do this with everyone walking through the gates, and while I'm not, I mean, I wouldn't lie to you and say that this is the first, oh, you're the first ones we've ever seen! But at the same time, they're looking for people who look like they have some sort of penchant for sneak thievery, basically.

And that's, like, Trixie kind of reeks of that. Like, she, you know... Sneak thievery. Well, let's do an insight check. Who's got the +8? I got the +5. I have +8. Oh, is that still DQ? You mean Rick is the one that wants no part of this? I think, I think that's what it's gonna come down to is just him believing the lesser two evils, where it's gonna be the, these people trusted us, asked us to help, and as long as someone's benefiting from it, I guess, like, I'm stretching now, but... Okay, I'll roll the insight. You could also bluff Rickus, too, like, if you really wanted to, like, try and sneak it through.

Uh, 14? Yeah. Well, if anyone's gonna bluff, I should probably be the one, I don't know. And then the others should definitely be bluffing. Yeah, that's if Rickus feels like he needs to be convinced that way. Like, that's, that's, if you guys want to try, that's all up to you. I'm just... At 14, you feel like he's telling the truth. You, you, you feel like there's urgency in his voice, you feel like there's, like, that's, that's, he's being honest about that. Okay, can I ask him why you chose us? And if he's asked anyone else? Isn't that obvious? Not necessarily.

Well, again, that's why he's kind of, he's kind of stalking you a little bit, because you look like you have a penchant for being able to sneak and stealth. But, I'm curious if he's asked anyone else. Like, if we are, if we are supposedly the only Iron that he has in the fire. Oh, not recently, no. No, no, no, not recently. So we're not the, uh, the distraction while some other group goes in and steals it, and he throws us to the wolves kind of thing, so... No, no, no, no. Because that's, they have to be, this, this isn't a thing where they can go in guns blazing and just murder everybody.

This has to be something where... It has to be stealthy, okay. Right. You know, I'd like to ask him, you know, what, what type of position he holds within Silverclaw. You know, what's his relation to the house? It's a, it's a female character? A male. I forgot. It's a male. He's male? Okay. Uh, he's a lieutenant within Silverclaw. Okay. So he's, like, middle management, that kind of thing. Okay. Alright. So where do we go with this? We can either come up with, uh, what we would like in return from them and take the job. Um, we could take the job and try and screw them over by going to another house.

I wouldn't go for screwing them over. Yeah. I would see how high or how much we can get from him. Like, how much he is willing to pay. Find out what that limit is and, you know, try to push it. And then I'm, I'm willing to jump in and do it. I, I think the other question you might want to ask is outside of the money, because obviously money is something that's going to benefit us directly. But I think also the other thing is, like, once we, assuming we finish this without all of us dying, what else are we going to get outside of money? Because while Riekis is very, like, he's very uneasy about the whole situation.

The, he's been sitting there thinking a little bit about what's been said and kind of been digesting it a little bit and is curious as to outside of the money if, if there would be anything else that they would provide to us for completing what they're asking. Are you asking that of him right now? It was just kind of talking and thinking out loud. I mean, if, if, like, I don't know if that would startle the group given the fact that Riekis is so lawfully good. But I guess it would be, he, Riekis would be asking the gentleman that snuck into our room outside of the money, what else would the house be able to provide us after we complete this quest?

He said he can offer you spots as initiates in the House of Silverclaw. Okay, that's good to know. That's a big thing for us to do to get- That is. We could now have clothes on, by the way. Okay, good. He was getting cold. He was getting cold. Your nudity was distracting him. Oh, I didn't know he swung that way. I didn't say he was aroused, just distracted. Just distracted. Riekis is a tripod, so, you know, it's- He calls it the hammer, Megan. Jesus, I mean, that's- I have to be more specific now in battle with what I actually- That's canon, that's the- Riekis uses his hammer.

There's lawfully good, and then there's unnaturally hung. Oh. Um. I don't know what else the group wants to ask. Or what. I don't know if we're gonna be able to shoo this guy away so we can actually talk privately at this point. Financially, what are you guys gunning for? Like, what are you- They offered you- This was like the- This is like a low-level dude walked up to you and tried to offer you $2,000. Which sounds like a lot of money, unless you know exactly what you're getting into, what the thing you're stealing is worth, and then now you know that it's worth far more than that, so- I think we should ask for a minimum of $1,000 apiece.

Yeah, well, that was the first number that popped in my head. The other thing is the fact that, like, while this guy is, like, fair, he's like middle management, like, is he in the position where he can actually be guaranteeing this stuff? Oh, yeah. Oh, okay. Yeah, he wouldn't have come to you if not, like- He feels like he is. Yeah, this- He's like, "Well, I'm gonna make sure that we weren't gonna be asking for something, and once we complete it," he's just like, "Whoop, I can give you a couple bucks." Also, do you think it would be bad to ask for some money up front to help- to pay for our armor if he's not willing to give us some?

Like, maybe in case we want to get some more or some better armor? Yeah, 'cause I was gonna say, if we- we maybe need some more equipment, so we'd probably want half of the money up front, at least $1,000 apiece, and then positions in the house. You know, Galford's kinda drooling at the possibility of getting into one of the houses 'cause it gives him a bit more influence and power to mess people over, but at the same time, we don't know enough about the city yet that this is this huge playground. It still feels like we're putting all of our eggs in the first offer, you know?

And it's like, okay, if one of the houses actually does steal the- steal the golden dragon, and a lot more chaos breaks- breaks out, there's so many more opportunities to take advantage of people during that. So, it's kinda like- I wonder if this guy's getting bored sitting in the corner of the room, like, "Guys, what the hell are you doing?" "I told you time is a factor!" Like, he's just- he's crouched like Batman. I'm sure. I'm Batman. [laughter] Well, no, look, Danielle made me feel greedy 'cause the first number I thought of was $2,000 apiece, so then we'd get the thousand- we'd each get a thousand apiece up front to arm ourselves.

It's not ridiculous. I was gonna say, let's look at it this way. We're looking at a front-end deal for money. Now, apparently, Ricus is getting really interested in the money. We're looking at a front-end deal for money, for armor, and then the back-end would be completing the task, which would be money, and then the spots inside the house. Yes. Yeah. Um, hmm. Now I'm- we're over-analyzing this, I think, at this point, but, like- This is the City of Thieves, too. I feel like we're coming out of this with nothing but a knife in our ribs, so, you know, like- [laughter] That even if this guy does- we're gonna get screwed over in the end, even if we do complete the task.

Um... I mean, would it hurt for us to just say, "Four thousand up front and four thousand when we're done," and see what he says? Can we just kill him and- You are in a strong bartering position, you know. Yeah. Yeah, that's why I'm saying, like, you know, he did come to us, he hunted us down, even though we did follow his little man to his house. I mean, like, we- you know, he's asking us if- and, you know, from the- from the check, we believe him, for the most part. So, maybe we should throw out our offer, see what he says. If he turns it down, then we can, you know, over-analyze a little bit more, but just throw the offer out there first to see what he says.

Can we- I mean, can we bluff him that we're accepting the offer, and then, you know, go- go somewhere else, like, go to another house in the morning or something like that? You can. That's- 'cause the only other question I would have is, outside of us, once- if we get to complete this task, what prevents him from asking us to go to the last house and grabbing that dragon claw? Well, once they get one dragon, that's sixty-six percent of the share. I know, but what's gonna stop them from wanting a hundred percent of the share? Well, I mean, maybe nothing down the line, but that means that they pretty much call the shots in Silverport. They get a majority control of what comes in, what goes out, how much of the cut that they get, all that stuff.

I mean, once we acquire the dragon too, then essentially all of the houses would, you know... Oh, you got a big decision to make after you get- if you can get to the dragon, and yeah, you guys got... We can take it back to Silverclaw, or we can use this as a bartering chip to, you know, get us a nice little ship and get the hell out of here, kind of thing, and let all of them... Can we please just propose the deal to him? Yeah, can we deal with the deal, 'cause I feel like... This feels like group one, wow. Yeah, we're starting to sound like group one, and I don't like that, 'cause they hate us.

Oh, we just totally got up and went and got armor. Yeah, we went up and got armor in the whole night. [Laughter] We went to the 24 hour armor and weapon supply, and... Armors are off. Yeah, liquor, guns, ammo, armor. [Laughter] Did any of you guys see that video where it showed, like, the downsides of being a merchant or whatever, and it showed this guy, like, he went to go turn his sign to close, and it said "still open"? And there's just a line of all these, like, game characters just waiting to buy more stuff. [Laughter] That seems legit, too. 'Cause merchants in these games never close.

They're just always randomly open. I don't know, in the one campaign we were doing, we had this guy called Mert, and he was, well, he was like a jack of all trades man. He had frickin' everything we needed, ever. But primarily he was a banker, so we kept his money with him all the time, and he had, like, how legit kind of bank system you got interest for leaving your shit with him, and everything. And if you deposited so much gold with him, you'd get, like, these special, like, VIP bonuses, like, we got this elven wine complete feast one day because of all the gold we just deposited in one day.

Actually, it was these completely uncut gems that we gave him. So he was like, "Why don't you come into the nice parlor over here with me and have a nice dinner, and buh-buh," and Mert was like, "Sure, Mert, let's do it." And there was, like, every bit of good liquor ever. There was, like, there was the elven wine, there was the iron, there was, like, this iron gut whiskey. Oh, man. You had to have, like, a 30 con to deal with that shit. Why? Because it was so strong. It was something to strive for. It was so damn strong. [coughing] Well, that used dwarven, so it had to be strong.

That was strong for dwarven... crab, okay? So the game. So you guys have, you guys have taken off for, uh, for Dark Spain Manor, and let me switch you over here. There we go. So we went and bought armor and weapons right after getting our money, like overnight, all-night weapon depot, and then we went straight to start the mission. Yes. Okay. So, when you arrive, uh, you arrive at House Dark Spain, which is this grim-looking manor on the edge of the city here. And, uh, there is kind of a rusty swinging gate in the front. The rest of it is, uh, what looks to be a small cemetery next to the manor itself.

And, uh, kind of an iron-rot fence around it. Uh, and in the, near the front door of the manor are two, uh, sleeping greyhounds. So, how would you guys like to approach this? Well, we have one of two options. A. I walk up, because obviously the tank would be front, or do we want to try to sneak up on these greyhounds and sneak? Well, like, would it be worth trying to sneak past them? Because obviously they're sleeping. I mean, think about it, if they wake up at some point, we're going to have to deal with them, so it's probably better to take them out while they're still outside.

Yeah. I'll just put Megan on my back and I'll sneak up there and then throw her at them. Wait, this is an animal, isn't it? Yes. Why can't I just wild-shape into it? And then even if we do get caught, they just think it's another one of me. Yes, I mean, that'll be good for you, but not the rest of the party. What if we get confused and we don't know which one's you? I want to be the biggest damn one, probably. Wait, and since they're greyhounds, how many, uh... Gravehounds. Gravehounds. So these are undead dogs, essentially. Okay, so I don't feel bad comparing myself to Michael Vick. [laughter] This is essentially the front door, right?

I mean, you can still try and sneak around the back. Yes, but you still pretty much have to go through these hounds. I mean, at least sneak past them. It would probably be easier to sneak, like, to go in the back. There is a back entrance, but you still will have to kind of stealth around it. I say we just go after the dogs and get them out of the way, because I'd hate to be surprised by them later. Well, we have to be careful getting rid of them too, because they could raise the alarm. This right here is a small... Not even a cemetery. I mean, it's... It's kind of an in-house mausoleum type of deal.

And I assume we are coming in this... like, this is where we're coming in. Yes, right in the front there. We can... I think the general consensus is we're going to have to deal with these puppies, no pun intended, one way or another. So... Do we just want to... Should I try to stealth up and try to kill one? You certainly could. I'd suggest trying... I'm thinking we sneak, because if they raise the alarm, you know... This whole task is about trying to do this... Because we're stealing something, we don't necessarily need to get into open battle. We want to try and do this with as little noise as possible.

The only thing is I have +1 stealth. So I have the stealth equivalent of a giant elephant that has had nothing but laughing gas for the past four hours. That's really a big success. I don't think we're pooping. But that would be the only thing is... I think you guys... I'm kind of large and in charge. So... So in this case we'll let you stand back if we decide to attack? Because you're not going to help until they've already done the alarm. I don't know how I feel about that. There's some bushes over on the house. You'll be okay. Can we go around northwest or do we have to go by the cemetery?

You can go either way. It's up to you. So we could try and sneak around the northwest way. Or are these windows? Are those windows? What are those? They would be windows, yeah. So then wouldn't we want to do a perception check to see if there are people at these windows that would see us sneaking? Oh absolutely. Let's do it. Yeah, you can start off with a nice crispy perception check. Okay, I have zero perception so... I believe we established I was the perception skill. I was going to say I only have plus three. I'm the skill monkey of perception. You're coming in kind of low there, Megan.

I'm not sure why. Why in the hell would I be doing that? I don't know. I was fine like five seconds ago though, right? You're fine. You're fine. You're fine. Okay. I can do a perception check just to see if there's anybody else out there. Nineteen. Okay. Beyond the dogs, which are obviously meant to guard the perimeter, it's eerily quiet. You don't see anybody moving about. You don't see where there would be anybody on patrol. So it looks like it's just the dogs, at least on the outside. So could I possibly stealth up and try to... I mean, should we... have we decided if we're going to attack the dogs or if we're going to sneak past them?

I was going to say, can we... it is nighttime though, right? Yes. Okay. I would be a little bit too far away in the front door. Like literally knock on the front door and try and go in and have some sort of diplomacy with the guys inside and then steal the thing when they're not looking and then run away. I would absolutely not do that. That's just me. That's the voice of God. Well, he said they're not quite as bad as the House of the Undying, but the way he initially described them I'm still going to mentally think of them that way. I would not openly approach the House of the Undying.

I'm sorry. Alright. And it is too quiet and all there is is dogs. Maybe it's quiet because they're sleeping. So if we took out the dogs, hopefully quickly and quietly... I mean, I think if we decide to attack, I think that's probably going to be our best bet. But I think probably if we had someone stealth one of them, it wouldn't disturb the other one too. Just because I'm stealth doesn't mean I'm actually going to be able to kill the damn thing. Remember last time when I missed his DS? I mean, seriously. I just remember hiding in a tree. If we screw this up too, we're not even inside the building yet.

If we raise the alarm on the first two guards. Meanwhile, it'd probably be easier to stealth each square's what, five feet? Yeah. So we're almost 30 feet away if we go the long way around as opposed to going the more direct route. Or at least what I'd consider the more direct route even though it's kind of even. You would have to start stealthing at the gate. So if you moved your speed and you managed to stealth past them, like one more stealth check. At this general vicinity, you wouldn't require any more stealth checks. Because you'd be pretty much out of earshot.

You're just trying not to wake them up. Okay, so we just need to... somebody have a coin we could flip? Whether or not we're going to try to smash these hounds? We'll roll percentile. And I figured that the gravehound would be more interested in taking out the giant looking guy with a hammer. I think you forgot how much this game hates us in combat. Yeah. Umm... So if dog one is still sleeping, let's just leave him sleeping for now. And... I think there's a saying. Yeah. And I can move over and try and... Sleeping dogs. Let sleeping dogs lie. Alright. Yeah, I was going to say, if someone's going to stealth, we have to realize that the whole party can't.

So, it's got the capabilities to do some destruction. And I'm pretty sure it's probably capable of walking down this hallway and busting through one of the walls. Well... If we stay in this room, though, it's gonna wipe us out real fast. Ricus, can you do a perception check to see if maybe you can see anything else in the room that might help us? I can. If I can get within three squares of that switch at the back of the room, I can throw it using my ghost hand.

But we don't know what it does. Maybe it... I mean, what if it drops a cage on where it was? If it's out of the cage, that's not gonna help us any. We also have to think about the fact that we had that brewing thing and that easily could have been what was controlling... Or what could have possibly controlled the dragon. Well, the dragon's not a demon, though. Those were necromancers. Yeah, that's kind of their department. The only thing I'm thinking is that, just like with Ricus, he has nothing he can do, because he can't come in the room. So he can't get close enough to hit it.

But he wants to stay out so he can stay, you know, alive. So at least he can try to do a perception check, maybe? Can I do an arcana check on the dragon to determine if it has any other magical weaknesses or anything like that? Sure. Is that just a totally free thing? Or does that count as... The target is immobilized. It missed half damage and the target has slowed. And, in fact, the burst creates a zone that lasts until the end of the encounter. Any creature that willingly enters the zone is immobilized until the end of its next turn. I mean, it's a burst 10, so... That would suck, because then if Tala ran into it, she'd get immobilized trying to get out of the room. Yeah, but it would get her own, wouldn't it? Yeah, pretty much. Okay, that's not gonna work. Unless you ran behind it, then are you immune to it or does it immobilize you too? I think I'm immune to it.

Then couldn't you run behind it so the blast just barely hits the dragon and not anyone else? And then we can run away? It's not my turn, though. Maybe? Yeah. I was saying, when is your turn, maybe? So his body is stuck in the door frame, but you can see where the door frame itself is just cracking, and his head is out into the hallway just snapping and screeching furiously.
