Guys, we've been telling you for months that it's time for you to get a game night started or enhance the one that you already have. It's October now. It is the perfect time to start. It's getting cold outside. It's starting to rain. For some people it's starting to rain a hell of a lot.

Right now, you can go to NobleKnight.com and find 50,000 awesome products there. Plus, you can trade in stuff that you no longer use. You can find tons of deals on their featured page. And if you're looking for suggestions on things to buy, you can always go to our forums and you can talk to people who have purchased stuff from them in the past few months. They've talked about it in a couple of different threads. So go to NobleKnight.com and check them out. Let's do that thing where we go around the table and introduce ourselves. I'm Jason. I'm the Dungeon Master.

Going around the table, starting with Xavier. Hello, I'm Xavier and I'm playing Actaronis, the Revenant Cl-leric. And Ian. Hi, I'm Ian and I'm playing Kaldin Halek, a Blizzard Wizard. And Alex. Hey, I'm Alex and I play Brelin, the Halfling Bard. And Susan. Hey, I'm Susan and I play Erloof Grimless, the Tiefling Invoker. And last but certainly not least, James. Hey, it's James and I play Mr. Page. You learn. Learn to well. Guys, last time on the show, you started forth from the Emgar Swamp and you started making your way north. You ended up getting to Ebony Harbor, you resupplied, you met a kindly shopkeeper named Ulan, and then you started going even further north.

Now the idea was to navigate around the mainland and eventually make your way toward Brightport and then sail from there to Talor, hopefully. Unfortunately, you guys hit a bit of a snag when the decision was made to try and weave your way through several icebergs at the top of the continent. You did make it through. Unfortunately, you tore one large hole in the boat on the left side, which I believe is the port side. I looked up boating terms, guys, did you? Are you impressed? Yes. This is gonna be tight. You gotta stop calling it a boat then. It's a ship.

God dammit! And where's the poop deck? We have to know. Fucking, I'm giving this up then. On the right side of the ship... Starboard. Thank you. A huge gash has been torn, which is going to be a problem today. And what we're going to do is we are going to pick things up relatively soon after that. You have sailed away from these icebergs. You are far enough away from that and you are rounding the bases toward an area called the Frost Basin. Now, right now, if you were to look at a map of Theria and you were to see the top of the mainland, what you would see is you are northeast of Camp Icebreaker, but obviously in the ocean.

Now, here's the problem with your current predicament. There is a very real possibility of you all freezing to death. It is blisteringly cold and you guys have entered into the time of year where, you know, fall is taking place. The sun has set and it is bone chillingly cold right now. You are almost as far north as you can possibly go and still be able to navigate anywhere. What I would like to do is check in with you guys and see how you'd like to handle this because you are pretty much unshielded from the elements right now. There is no place on this ship where you can go where wind isn't slicing through your garb and you aren't feeling this.

So what would you like to do here? I guess try to make repairs as much as we can on whatever holes there are. I know last time you said there were materials we could try to patch a bit, so I'd probably still be doing that. Well, here's the thing. Yeah, there's some loose material. You can break down doors, you can do things like that, but that is not going to fix this immense gash on the starboard side. The port side, you just barely managed to plug that and that was partially thanks to Keldon and then you guys working as a team. Now this massive gash on the side is almost the entirety of the right side above the water is just exposed.

So that's a huge problem. Dragon scale duct tape? Well, now the dragon scales are an option. Getting them to stay in place, like there would be nails and things like that, you could work at this for a while. It would take time, but that would be an option. You can use a portion of your dragon scales to kind of pave over this hole. So we don't have wood to patch it? Not really, no. Can we take up some of the deck or something like that? You mean from the top? Yeah. You could start prying up floorboards and stuff like that from the deck up top. So we don't have to damage dragon scales?

Well, the problem is, the hole on the side of the ship is so large you would have to tear up a majority of the deck. This is a large hole. Now the ship is not huge. So it's a sizable ship for a group as small as yours. But it's not meant to transport hundreds of people or anything, it's meant for speed. And now even that is kind of compromised because of the damage. Do we know of any place we can dock? Well, obviously I don't think there is because I'm looking at the map. Would we, as individuals, know of private ports or some kind of secret cove up here?

Because I don't come from this area up north. Well, everyone roll a history check. Kaldin, Braelon, and Dagon. You guys are in a precarious spot. Technically the closest port to you is Ebony Harbor. Which would be back the way you came. Beyond that, the closest port is Brightport. That ain't close at all. You're days and days away from Brightport. You would probably A) freeze to death in the time it takes you to get there. And then B) if that didn't get you, the overall damage to this ship might be so much that you capsize. Your other option is to drop anchor as far inland as you can go in the Frost Basin.

Which would still be in the Northlands, but you'd only have a few miles to go. And sadly you'd have to travel through mountains, but you'd be pretty close to Aubrey. So we are closer to Aubrey than we are to Camp Icebreaker? Yes. Oh, getting to Camp Icebreaker would be a nightmare because you'd have to dock. You'd just drop anchor, take a dinghy, then reach the blistering Icelands, and then trek to Camp Icebreaker. That would get you to the closest thing to a main road in the Northlands that would get you back down south to Winterhaven. All of that is torturously slow, very cold, and it would pretty much eat up all of your rations.

Because you'd need the calories just to stay alive. Okay, so I think repairing the boat first and foremost so we don't drown, that's probably a good idea, right? Probably. Yeah. And we don't have enough to fix the gash, we only have enough to fix... Maybe keep it afloat, is what I'm getting from all the info dump that we just had? It's more keeping us warm, I guess. Yeah. I think we're afloat until the water gets rough. Yeah. Okay. I'm heading in a bit. I'm going to make a non-popular decision here, but if we're bringing these scales in order to, in the future, save our lives, I guess plugging these holes and preventing us to freeze to that is one way to see it.

This would be a good way to use some of these scales, and if we're going to make repairs to that ship at all, maybe by expert boats, people, then it's better not to take all the planks away from the deck at this point, and make them just make expert repairs to those holes. Jason, in relation to the boat, the Alu-Londra? Aluyanda. Aluyanda. How many boats would it take to make a straw? To make a straw? Yeah, because I'm wondering how many scales we would have to use, because we have a shit ton. You have a shit ton of scales, and that's, see, here's the thing.

That's what's taking up a majority of your cargo hold. Yeah. You're essentially substituting places to sleep for dragon scales. You guys have a very valuable commodity on board. Exceedingly valuable, honestly. What percentage of the scales do we have are we going to need to make armor? Well, of course you didn't take the smallest scales off of Strahd, so when you stripped Strahd down, you pretty much took 80% of those usable scales, and of those, you would probably have to use about 28-33% of them to patch this ship. That's pretty precise. I mean, if it means saving our lives, I'm not opposed to sacrificing the scales I would have taken.

Yeah. No, I mean, yeah. It might still be worth something after, like, whatever you used to plug the holes. We'd all still get armor, right? You could still get armor out of that. Yeah. You'd still, yeah. Because some of you aren't, if you really think about it, there's only one or two of you who are actually going to take on a full set of armor. A lot of you wear lighter bits of armor, and that's why you're going to a person like Artemis, because he can take those scales and fashion something really lightweight with them. And anybody can really take dragon scales and fashion big, bulky armor that's nigh-impenetrable and all that.

That's cool. But for someone like Dagon or Breland, that would weigh them down significantly. I already have heavy armor that's weighing me down significantly. I figured it'd be like a light armor. Yeah. I have one question. I remember Susan asked about using the scales to keep the water from freezing. If we were to tuck scales under our clothing, would it keep us warm? Well, what they do is they hold onto heat. So the thing that Erolove would be bringing to the party is fire. A lot of fire. So what you could even do is, and Erolove brought it up in the last session I believe, was taking a stack of scales, setting them on fire, and while they wouldn't stay on fire, they would hold onto heat.

And you can kind of use that for warmth. Kind of a makeshift campfire type of thing. All of you huddling around and keeping warm with that. That sounds good. I like that idea. I would probably huddle a little aside just so that nobody touches my cold iron body and gets stuck to it. I don't think I generate a lot of body warmth either. No, you generate almost no body warmth. The thing is, Actoronus doesn't have to worry about freezing to death. Actoronus has to worry about outright freezing. You already ignored that first part. Yep. I got some cold resist. And Kaldin is in fairly good shape, considering where he grew up.

He grew up in the Ivory Peaks. Right. So this is the first time he's seen these scales. Are we all down in the ship trying to figure out how to repair it? I would say that after all of the commotion of navigating this field of icebergs, I would imagine after that the weather's calm, the water's pretty calm, and you guys are sort of coasting. I would imagine after that everyone's pretty much down below trying to figure out what the hell they're going to do about that. Yeah, so the first time that Kaldin sees these scales, his eyes are going to go absolutely wide, and he's going to turn to Dagon and say, "Captain Dagon, may I?" "May you?" "May I take one of these scales?

May I examine it?" "Oh, sure. Yeah, go ahead." And Kaldin is going to go over and pick one of them up. How big are they? They range in size. The largest ones are going to be large enough that you could actually wear one over your chest, and one single scale would cover the entirety of, like, Brailen's chest. I'm not that big of a guy, so that's a low bar, but yeah. Okay, he's going to take one and hold it up to Brailen's chest and make sure it's that size, and then hold it up to him, and Jason, do I get anything from this scale, holding it in Kaldin's hands?

Well, do me a favor. Roll a Perception check for me. Okay. I'm going to add a +2 to that because of your Pass with Dragons in research. So, two things right off the bat that Kaldin would pick up. One, obviously this was a red dragon. Two, that this was a very sizable red dragon. For the scales to get large enough that you can... that they're that big, that an individual scale would be large enough to cover up... you know, you could hide behind it if you're really small. That is an old, older dragon. That is something of note and size. And in Kaldin's mind, they're something that large.

There's only really legend of one that's reached that size on the mainland. Gotcha. He's going to turn to Dagon and say, "Where did you get this?" In my hometown, Odysseus, you hold the remains of Strahd. And no, we did not kill him. Despite what you've seen so far, we actually tried not to delve into danger like that. A fortunate find, then. This is... this is a godly thing, these scales. What are your plans for them, besides repairing the ship? We intend to have some armor made. That's why we're headed to Aubrey. And Kaldin is going to look at the scale and his face is going to sort of get a little bit sad.

And then he's going to look up and say, "If you'll permit me, if you have a surplus of scales after all that you want is made, I have money. May I have something made for myself as well?" Yeah, I mean, you're part of this group now. You don't need to pay your way in. At that, he's going to smile just a little bit. And he's going to say, "Thank you very much. This is a reminder to all of us of strength. And I am very lucky to have come into your group." And please treat them with respect. Many did die so that we could take those scales. And we shouldn't forget that.

With the utmost respect. And he's going to take the scale that he has in his hands and lay it carefully against the others. So the rest of the group here, are you agreed that taking a percentage of the scales and sort of patching up the ship is the best way to go? Absolutely. Yeah. I mean, I don't want to freeze to death. I don't want to drown out here. Well, quick question. Are you going to just sort of drift while you're doing this? Or is someone actually going to be actively trying to sail into the Feral Space and drop anchor while you're repairing? Someone being Dagon.

Pretty much, yes. With his mind. I mean, if it's cold, Galdin can probably stay up there a while. That's true. Yeah, absolutely. None of us have experienced repairing ships on open water or repairing anything on open water. Yeah. So like, is it going to be an issue? I'm asking the group. I'm not asking Jason. I'm asking the group. Do you guys think if we were to repair it while moving, there'd be an issue? If we're in the bay, in the basin there, it should be fairly calm. My only concern would be if the waves came up, then we might have some trouble. I'm sorry, I was just going to ask how far of a distance we are from landing.

Like, if it's a few hours, we might want to do minimal repairs. Here's the thing. Normally, so right now, again, I mentioned the sunset and it is cold and dark. You are going to be limping into the basin when you get there. Normally, as you experience getting this far, you have been moving really quickly. Unfortunately, there's a bit of drag now and that's going to change. You can't go too fast because you risk taking on water and all that. So what would normally be about eight to nine hours of sailing is going to turn into almost a solid day. So much for saving time going through the icebergs.

I think that's how much you're going to save going around them. It costs us more. It costs us the same. Steal from Peter to pay Paul. We have to keep it interesting, right? Yeah. We were having too good a game last time. We definitely were. I think Brandon will look at Dagon and he'll ask. I don't know about you, Captain, but I would like to sit still and repair. So at least we have some coverage. If the waves do get rough, maybe we'll see them coming. I mean, I'm not a sailor. I don't know anything about storms and how they show up. But I understand that we have a pretty good view of what's out there on the dock or what's out there beyond the deck.

So if there is problems, we can see coming, perhaps prepare. Yeah, you're right. Absolutely. What are we going to use to fix these to the hull? I mean, I guess Brandon will look back at the pile of dragon scales. Maybe those guys? I mean, I'm willing to give up a few. I'm not going to make any illusions about myself looking like a dwarven machine of destruction. But yeah, I'm down to give up a few scales if it means saving all of our asses. I can also part with mine if I can get something smaller to cover mine. I am fairly attached to this one. We've got a lot of scales.

I think we'll be OK. Yeah. How are we? There would be nails and hammers and stuff like that. There's general building tools and things on the ship. OK. Would nails go through straw scales? Here's the thing. Is there like a sealant to put around the edges? No. This is not going to work at all. Can I weld them together? The nail thing is going to be shoddy at best. These nails are not generally, they're long enough, but you're going to break a lot of nails. You're going to hope that you have enough nails by the end of it. So we just pile all the scales against the hole?

And then we all fall out. There's another thing you could do. Kaladin, do me a favor and roll an intelligence check. It's going to come to Kaladin that while this is not a permanent solution, at least while the ship is so far north, you could use ice to fuse the scales to the side of the ship. Gotcha. Kaladin, that's a brilliant idea. I figured dragon scales and ice wouldn't mix, but I guess like you said, they only hold heat. They don't emit heat. Yeah, no. Unless you heat them up first and then they hold on. Think of it like a heating stone, something like that, like an asana.

They just hold on to heat really well. Turned into an armor, that's not the problem. Okay, so Kaladin is going to take up one of the scales, one of the larger scales, and place it against the hole, the breach of the hole. And he's going to say, he's going to turn the party and say, "This might be a temporary solution, but I think that maybe we can hold some of this together with a bit of ice and a bit of magic." And he's going to press the scale up against the hole and with his other hand sort of like frost out a bunch of ice around one of the scales to sort of hold it in place.

This appears as though it's going to work. Now, two problems with this. One, when all is said and done, this is going to weigh the ship down significantly. Two, unlike the plan where you're all picking up hammers and nails and you're just swinging and hoping, it's just Kaladin doing it. This is going to extend the length of the repairs. But it will work. Maybe we can do a mixture. I don't know, I mean, that's just... Like, some nails and a little bit of nails, a lot of bit of ice. Yeah, I agree. We could take some of those planks on the deck and make like a cross across the hole so there's a solid surface to put them on.

And I can fortify it. I'll just fortify it. Yeah, just like half and half. It'll still take a while, it sounds like. Alright. So maybe in the meantime, we could start heating up some scales as well. Yeah, for self-warm. Oh, we got fire and ice going on all over the place. Maybe not the same. We're standing right next to each other. Back to back. Back to back. I got Earth. Who's heart? I guess I'm heart, right? Heart! I have a little monkey. For sure. What are we going to do? So, Airlove is going to begin stacking dragon scales. I'm guessing on the deck. I don't want to light the boat on fire.

Right, but do you want to do it in the same room that they're using ice to bind scales to the boat itself? Is there only deck and the one room? It's pretty much deck and then beneath it's pretty much all storage. Again, this thing is built for speed, so it's not a luxurious... What about the swanky captain's quarters? Well, there is a swanky captain's quarters, but that's one room. We could take breaks whenever we get too cold and go to where the fire is. If you're going to work with an open flame anyway, we're going to want to do that in open air. Open air, yeah.

But far enough away from the ice that it's not melting. Right. So, who's going to be ripping up portions of the deck? Me, me, me! Yeah, I think me and Ekoronas will do it, right? What else are we going to do? Okay, so, and Dagon is helping with that? Okay. And Kaladin is... Okay, so here's what we're going to do. Firstly, while you guys are in preparations to get all this done, I want everyone to roll an endurance check for me, please. Fuck, because it's cold. Oh my god. Can I get a bonus for being fired? Do we get a bonus for the lovely furs that Yulin sold us?

Oh yeah, Yulin! Well, what the furs do is they are essentially enough to keep you alive. You will not be comfortable. And they're not meant to... There's kind of... It's like buying a sleeping bag. It's rated to a certain temperature. It never works that well. I fucking knew it, man. I'm like, "Well, this is going to be another one of me hanging off the side of a cliff." I should have told them where we were going. Well, I mean, the furs will... Again, it's not like your breezy armor and stuff like that, because most armor is kind of built to try to breathe a little bit, because it's a bulky thing that you're wearing.

It's meant to keep you alive, but at the same time, you know, when you're traveling this far north, yes, your furs are going to be very, very valuable, and if you weren't wearing them, we wouldn't be doing rolls. This would be a formality. You would be freezing to death now. Can I roll to grow a beard? You bring... That's that... Oh, man, that gorgeous Aladrin baby face. That's not gonna... I don't think he can grow a beard. Yeah, no, he can't. It's just like a little... On the top lip, just a little... Like a wispy mustache. A little pube-stache. Let's see here.

Kaladin's fine. Oh, yeah. He's cold as fuck, but he's doing okay. You don't have to look at the numbers. Just say it. Erolove is going to be very uncomfortable, as is Dagon, both of which are gonna take just a tiny bit of damage here. In response to the cold, can I do Infernal Wrath? Can you lash out of the cold? Yes. I mean, ice heat. And Kaladin. So here's what we're gonna do. Roll for Jumping Jacks. Roll for Jumping Jacks. Seven damage to Erolove and Dagon, so there's that. Seven. And they rolled really damn good, too. I'm for Helen. Good luck. I don't know if I'll roll that good again.

Kaladin's fine. Actor Ronis. Again, he will not be taking damage in the traditional sense. What's going to start to happen is his armor's going to start to lock up. Real oil can style. Like, it's going to be difficult for him to start to move if he stands in one spot for more than a moment or two. It'll take extra effort for him to sort of break free of that and move again. And he can actually feel his bones, his physical bones, start to come under duress. Too much more of this, and Dagon is at risk of actually breaking limbs. Actor Ronis. Actor Ronis? Actor Ronis, sorry.

Shit. Alright, I think after this blank I'm going to go warm up a little bit. Just hug me for a bit while I do infernal wrath, all of you. Yeah, let's do that. Just get really close. Group hug. I'm going to lose a toe, as I was about to go down. Brailen, on the other hand, is small and is not great at holding in his body heat. And, let's see, as a result... there we go, that seemed to have done it. 25 damage to Brailen. Geez. Nice. Remember me for who I was, not for what I look like. Oh, you already did 25 already for me, thank you. Yes, I did. No problem. Anytime.

Brailen is actually in the early stages of hypothermia. He will, he's going to freeze to death. Can I pick up on the symptoms? I would say it's, he would be... I think I would tell everybody. He would be shaking like a chihuahua. Yeah, like there'd be... Alright. Yeah. Brailen, why don't you come back inside, or closer to the warm scale with me, I'll try to help you out as much as I can. Sounds good. I'm just like both walking away like ice blocks. Air love. Do me a favor, roll an arcana check. Okay. Hey guys, you wanted to be warm, right? That's a 17. You rolled a 2, but your bonus is great.

So there's a stack of these dragon scales on the deck, and they're sort of angled to look like a campfire almost. And there's smaller ones in the center, almost like kindling, and then some of the larger ones on top. And there's, it's sort of braced in a way that you're trying not to set fire to the deck itself. Because that would be bad. And air love is going to, almost like a flame thrower, just sort of hit these scales. But it's not going to last too terribly long. Just a few seconds of this burst. So these scales are going to become pretty warm, but not intensely hot.

So it's not going to harm the deck, and it's not going to stay very warm for very long. But it is enough so that people can come over and warm up their hands and keep from getting frostbite or losing limbs or toes or fingers. Slide it down there, Long John's. Yes. I'm not sure if this will change the outcome at all, but I get like plus 2 with fire and then plus 4 when I'm bloody. So I'm not sure if that changes any of the effects, because it would only make it 19. 19's not bad. It's pretty much the same thing. It's only going to be... They're not even glowing red or anything like that.

It's just enough that you can put your hands down and it's like, "Okay, yeah, okay." It's like a trash can fire type of thing. Very, very... Nice. I've always wanted to do that. Yeah. Fingerless gloves and everything. Minus no helm. That sucks. So let's see how long these repairs are going to take. Kaladin, do me a favor and roll an Arcana check. I can do that. Go! 30. Holy shit, guys. Wow, you're amazing. Kaladin is going to start to breeze through these repairs, and he is going to get almost halfway. I would like everyone on the deck to do me a favor and roll a Perception check.

Can I just add that whenever I get the chance, I would probably magically heal Brelin, just to negate whatever burnt skin he would be starting to have or anything. I know he won't negate the cold, but at least prevent losing toes. Sure, so once he warms up, then yeah. Yeah, just don't negate my nose picking with that one, though. That's very important. Perception. Brelin Perception checks are the best Perception checks. It's just me picking my nose and picking my butt and stuff. Not at the same time. Oh, I was about to say, ew, gross, dude. Yeah, seven fingers.

Sometimes you gotta explore, you gotta know what stuff smells like, though. Let's just keep that out there. It could save your life. Life is science. Hahahaha. So let's do a thing. Okay. Airlove Dagon Actaronus on the horizon to the east, and it looks like it's moving in at a decent clip. Looks as though a storm is brewing. And being as how you are so far north, storms up this way tend to get violent and windy, and it's probably going to be mostly sleet and ice. The other thing is that if it's a thunderstorm up this far north, they tend to get incredibly violent, and they've been known to outright destroy ships.

It looks as though you have maybe an hour, hour and a half before it were to get to you. So far, Kaladin has spent about an hour repairing the ship. How far to shore? You have not moved yet. I know, but if we started sailing... Once the repairs are completed... Do they have to be completed? They don't have to be completed, no. I'm just exploring all possibilities. Yes, exploring all possibilities. If you were to take off now and just start sailing, you're probably going to get hit by this storm. Once you're in the basin, it would lessen the effects of it. Like some of the wind and stuff would be cut down, and you wouldn't be in open waters.

But it would take you hours to get to the basin to begin with, and then to get to a place where you could drop anchor and start to get ashore with a dinghy. This weather might be a problem for you guys. Umm... guys? We should probably move and do ad-hoc repairs as we can. Because you can drive the ship, right? Yeah, can he work on it as we're moving? Sure. It might present more complications, I feel like. We can go as we go, but I'm sure there's probably going to be some checks. It's not like that, but now we're moving and racing against a serious clock.

There's a real clock now, so I feel like any type of movement away from there to our final destination might help us. And this is thinking worst case scenario, even if we get sunk, we'll still be moving towards where there's land, you know? Instead of just sitting out here. Yeah, we should short, like, set anchor halfway there if we have to. Are we going for the basin or are we just going for shore? Let's go for the security of the basin if we can. Just turn a corner, barely make it in. That might help. But we would probably be safer on land than in this ship when the storm hits.

Yeah, anywhere is probably better than where we are. [laughter] There's a storm a-brewin'. Evelyn, do me a favor. Roll an endurance check. Oh, shit. Hmm. You did alright. Oh no! Hey, that was my roll last time. I closed my eyes before I did it. [laughter] You're up above, on the deck. [laughter] Oh, wow. Okay, Dagon is cold and uncomfortable, but doing... So, okay, let's do this one thing first. Actorona said you wanted to heal Brelyn from last time. Yes, sir. So, Brelyn would essentially get to spend a healing surge and we can do that. Plus 3d6 in my case. Okay, go ahead and roll 3d6.

Awesome. 14. Okay, so, Brelyn healing surge plus... So he's fully healed as of now. 19 is my amount, right? Yes. Okay, 8 is how many I have. Oh, I got my prayer. Yeah. So, we would just need one of these. So, yeah, Brelyn's only going to take two damage. Yes! Brelyn's doing okay, guys. Still got his toes. Counting, then. Dagon's keeping his hit points. Kaladin is... Here's the thing with Kaladin, and this is interesting. Kaladin is very damn near completely exhausted. The constant use of his powers over the last couple of hours is completely taken out of him. And then he obviously has a very good tolerance for cold, but at the same time everyone has their limits.

Right. Yes. And you're going to take five damage. Do I have to add that in or are you going to do that for me? I got it. Oh, cool. Thank you. Okay, anytime. Actor Ronis is going to take... Can he be sweating and there's like... he's sweating as he's doing this and there's like... it's like freezing down his cross. Nice. So that's... actor Ronis isn't going to take damage, but he is, again, still kind of locking up a tiny bit here and there. Not nearly as bad as it was earlier. Air Love, on the other hand, is going to really start to feel this. Air Love's going to take 27 damage.

I'm just going to go to her with both my hands extended, going to do the Braille and Treatment. Okay, just... When I see that she's turning blue, which is rare for a tiefling. An off-color for a tiefling. Air Love, do me a favor, roll an Arcana check. Wow, okay. This time, perhaps spurned on by not wanting to freeze to death, Air Love is going to go nuts with this fire and hose down these dragon scales. Thankfully... Am I bloodied? You are bloodied. Oh, that fire is plus four more. Oh, yeah! Do you say anything cool? We're all warm-ups up. Fuck you scales. Fuck you, Melora.

I just yell, I'm like, "I fucking hate the cold!" And the ship burns down. Yep. Well, we're going to do a thing. Oh, I don't want to burn a ship. Sixteen iron men, hand beam. I'm going to roll a flat d20. If it's ten or higher, then Air Love is not going to set fire to the ship. If it is one through nine, then there's going to be a bit of a complication. So let's... Okay, yeah. Oh, man. Just the scales. She would get punished for rolling well. No, not punished, per se. Just like, "Hey, let's put a blanket down and stomp that out." Unless it were a one, then you'd be in trouble.

But these scales are piping hot. They are red hot, guys. And anyone within a five-foot radius around these things can get warm. They're not going to... No one's freezing to death. That is the point of all of this. Dagon, you are steering the ship? Yeah, I guess I'll call down to Cauldron. Just say, "Keep going. We're moving the ship." It is your order, Captain. And he's going to go twice as hard. Roleplay-wise, when Air Love got cold, she probably curled in on herself and collapsed to her knees because she took a shit-ton of damage. Twenty-seven damage. And then it shoots out from her curled-up hands and her chest towards the scales.

She's leeching all the warmth out of her. I would go to you and help you stand and get closer to the fire as I heal you as well. Okay, I was going to say, because I can heal too, but I'm a backup healer. Stop stealing my charm! Generator, emergency holographic medical projection. Too late, I rolled. Too late. So let's see. You're doing well. My skin's back to red, guys. Yeah, that was so cool. Thank you so much, Air Love. This is much appreciated. Don't put your buddy through too much, though. Does that anchor come up itself when I think about it? Yeah, eventually.

Once you take the helm, you tell the ship what to do for the most part. Sails and everything can be operated by mine, but it's sometimes just quicker and a bit more expedient to do it manually. So the ship is going to start to lurch forward as the sails catch the wind and you continue toward the basin. Kaladin, do me a favor. Roll an arcana check. Thirty. Wow, another thirty. Okay. Boom! There's frost all over his forehead and on his cheek and the back of his neck and he's just... You light the flames on him. Or you make them ice. Yeah, all the fire is just turning into ice crystals.

Couple of things are going to start to happen. One, Kaladin is going to start to approach the end of his repairs. So you are a little more than three quarters of the way done. So there's only a fairly small space in which wind is whipping in through the open air here. And just sort of, if it were anyone but Kaladin, it would probably be cutting into them pretty bad. Kaladin can take the cold, though, so for the most part, he's doing pretty well. The problem is, the ship is going to begin to start listing toward the side with all the ice. Ooh, ship term.

Oh boy. Can I do an arcana check to will it to straighten out? Well, you can't fight gravity is the thing. And if you look at it... But it's magic. If you look at it from a buoyancy perspective, all the weight is pretty much on the starboard side of the ship. Can we move the rest of the scales to the port side? You can, and that would help balance things out a little bit. It is going to weigh the ship down and it is going to decrease speed, but at the same time you're still afloat and you're not going to freeze to death. That's smart. Let's put some at the back to get that bow up out of the water a little bit.

So, doing that, you guys are going to start to approach the basin. Now, this is going to be a fairly hard turn to starboard while the storm is approaching, and it's pretty much right on top of you at this point. Do me a favor, everyone roll a perception check. Can you tell us if it's one of these thundersnow storms? I'm just about to. Oh, I love thundersnow. Even better than last time. (singing) Well, we're going to roll a flat D20 and we're going to see what kind of thunderstorm this is. Thankfully, it's not that bad. Oh man. It's only going to murder you.

It's going to leave the ship intact. Dagon is going to take this whole thing in. Dagon and Erolove, you're going to see some really large storm clouds on the horizon. This appears to go on for miles. So the storm could last all night at least. You are currently hours and hours away from daylight. To give you a date, it's the fifth day of Thorim and it's almost the sixth. So what's going to happen here is you are going to... The ship is almost going to steer directly into these storm clouds. Within minutes, it's going to start to do whatever it's going to do.

And what it looks like it's going to do is mild thunder and lightning here and there. But it doesn't look torrential. It doesn't look terrible. You are going to be catching some sleet and hail. That's just going to happen. It is going to be uncomfortable and the wind is going to be bad. So what we might have to do here is another skill check challenge, guys. Do we have time to talk about... I know the storm is already coming, but do I have time to prepare something? Yeah, you guys have a little time. I am going to do "Glimpse of the Future" for this encounter.

Ooh. And that's three d20s, right? Mm-hmm. All right, here's the first one. That sucked. The next one. That's the worst thing I could ever roll in my life. Always up from there. All awful. All terrible, huh? I'll take that 10. A 10? Save a life, dude. I'll save the 10. Can I request a song? What do you want to hear? "Sailing" by Christopher Cross. Christopher Cross. I had that one planned. I even knew I was going to sing that one for a wind dang-on when we left the harbor, but we never had a chance. [laughter] I'm not really going to sing because that'll hurt people's ears, but I'll give you a little... ♪ No, it's not my dance, your paradise.

This is not for me. ♪ And then that's when I'll save my 10. Yeah, that'll give you a 10. Yeah. That's worth a 10. You guys are sailing into this storm. You know what's coming. You all see it. Who's going to be taking what positions on the ship? I'll go for the sails. I throw in a number one. I was going to say don't go to the sails because there's thunder and lightning and you are steel and armor. I mean, we're... We're a boat on water. I mean, I think we're all going to take that lightning bolt. All right, man. Actually, you're harder to blow off the ship too, right?

You're heavier. Probably. We'll see. We'll see. Can I do one quick thing? Sure. Because the situation's kind of a little dire, not as bad as it could be, but sort of in the chance and the hope that we might find a good getaway, I'd like to just check the wristband quickly just to see what it's doing. Ah. Do me a favor. Roll a perception check. As of right now, none of the little icons that are on this wristband are lit up. In fact, since you went through the gate, there hasn't been a ton of activity from the wristband at all. But Dagon is going to feel an ever so slight pull from it.

Just ever so slight. So it's pulling you in the direction of southeast. And it's incredibly faint. Based on the pull, you're guessing that it's many miles away. Okay, my heart is going to sink a little bit. And we are going to push on. One day, sir. One day. I'm looking for an easy out of our situation right now. Because that's not going to happen. If there's enough time and he's actively showing interest, could one of us maybe go up to him and do an arcana or something? If there's enough time. Or if this is seconds before the storm sets us. I would say this is minutes before.

You have a few minutes to talk about it if you'd like. Has anyone said that there's a storm coming? I would like to think that... I didn't want to call into panic, so it's just like, just keep going. Keep working there. It's pretty evident after a few minutes. It's like, oh yeah, that's a thing that's going to happen in a minute. Yeah, and Brelyn started singing. So he knows. If Dagon showing interest in the bracelet at air level in the panic be like, would you want me to take a look at that? I did study some of the journals back at the gate. I feel like I have more knowledge on it now.

Of course. Please, I felt something, but I fear it's much too far away to help us right now. But yeah, go ahead. And Jason, I didn't think of that before. I did study those journals. Can I give them a bonus on this? Let's give you a plus two on that roll. On our Kana? Well, this would be Yassar Kana. Okay. You can adjust my roll for me. Oh, fuck yeah! Oh shit! I know everything. That is a 36. I guess we are going to get to some of this. All right. Okay. In Heirlove studies, she's going to find out that there is a significant link between this wristband and the gates themselves.

And what you guys sort of known was that this is a locator wristband that's meant to, it's kind of like a divining rod. It's meant for the wearer to be able to hone in on these gates and to be able to find them even if they've never visited them before. Now, it's not an exact science in that it's not going to tell you exactly how far it is away. It sort of does by that pulling sensation. Like it's not actually physically pulling on you, but you can feel like a bond. The second thing is that each time you find one of those gates, the first time that you have an interaction with a gate by touching it, an icon is going to light up.

That means that let's say you were to visit another gate and you were to power it up. You could then touch that icon and travel back to the one that you visited in the Evergreen. Interesting. What? So essentially with that band, it is a fast travel system. It's a fast travel system. But if you don't, so I guess we don't know what happens if you don't highlight an icon. Because originally we couldn't have had one lit and we ended up. That's right. By Astril. That's where things get a little trickier. But Erolove didn't find anything about that in her research.

It was just about the band. Really? With a 36? So I mean, we could always go back to the White Raven Cavern. If there were a gate present. Yeah, first we gotta worry about not dying on the water. Because I'm sure Finway has been combing through that thing since we left. So fucking cool. Okay, well we... So we can get back there. No problem. That's what we know now. Theoretically, yes. Yes. Well, if we can get it open. Right. Unless you don't power it up all the way, then it flays your skin from your bones. Right. I say we do it. Flay our skin. No, not ours. Just the guy who's using the bracelet, man.

Not ours. Yeah. Right, right. No, Acheron has said he'd be the guinea pig. Yeah, I mean, having your skin flayed is that big of a deal. Who needs skin? Gotta have it to hurt it. Okay. So, did you two find anything useful? Nope. There's another gate, but it's nowhere near us. Awesome. Brandy's gonna head down. Brandy's gonna head under deck to go fix the boat. That wasn't in character. Everybody stops what they're doing to look at us, and then we're like, "Did you find anything out?" "No, not really." Nothing is gonna help us right now. Yeah. Well then, let's get in the beat of bracing ourselves, getting ready, everybody, to their positions.

Let's confront that storm head on and do what we can. What are the positions? So it's just the helm and the sails? It's pretty much the helm, the sails, and then there are cannons, but there's really nothing to shoot at. I mean, I would imagine everyone's gonna be helping with the sails and anything like that. And sometimes just bracing yourself against something so that you don't go tumbling over the side. Okay. But we'll see how bad things get. Can Kaladin finish up the repairs? Can I...? Sure can. Okay. I would imagine that's what... I mean, I would imagine you're working on that while they're doing this.

Yes. So Kaladin's gonna be doing that. Everyone else is... Is cold still an issue? Because then I could do the heat. Well, the Arkana check you rolled for those scales, that's... Okay. Yeah, they're gonna stay warm for a while. Okay. Quite a while, actually. The only thing you gotta worry about is ice and wind and things like that. So it's gonna be less effective, but you can still get some heat from them. Okay. So let's deal with this storm, guys. The water's gonna start to roar overhead. As you can feel the water start to get choppy beneath you. You can feel the ship start to react to that now.

The way this thing used to glide to the water like a knife. Not so much right now. It's a little choppier, the ride's a little rougher. And as a result, it's gonna jostle you guys quite a bit up top. The balance of the ship is off. It's gonna be a little slower. And the wind is gonna start to pick up tremendously. Over the course of two or three minutes, you're gonna feel that solid ocean breeze turn into much more of a gale. And then after a while, you're gonna start to notice that you're gonna have to kind of lean forward a bit. And lean into it just to keep your ground.

It's that strong. Now, we're gonna see if the wind is going to kind of work with you here a bit. Because obviously you're using sails, so this could make things bad. But first you're gonna start to be pelted by sleep. That's just gonna happen. And you're gonna hear that "ting ting ting ting ting ting" as it sort of bounces off Actaronis' armor. So I would imagine inside the armor it's sort of an echoey... It's enough to drive someone nuts after a while. But it's just gonna "ting ting ting ting ting ting" just that. And things are gonna start to get very cold.

Colder than they were before. And then you add the fact that you are getting wet with the wind and you got kind of a dangerous combination. So here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna do a little skill check challenge. And what we're looking for is three successes before four failures. And essentially what you're trying to do is sail from just outside the basin into the basin... ...and then as close to shore as you can get where you can drop anchor. If that's still the plan. Uh, yeah. Okay. Lead us on, Captain. Are these checks for the ship or for us? Oh, they're gonna be for you.

And we're gonna bounce around here. It's pretty much like the last time. Like the iceberg thing. Not quite as dangerous though. So... Dagon, do me a favor. Roll an Arcana check. Go ahead. Okay. That is gonna pass. Sweet. Uh, so you're going to start to make this turn. You're going to sail in between this island and the continent here. And Dagon is going to start to steer the ship starboard. So avoiding all of the rocky, jagged terrain that would be around the continent here in the Northlands. Just that icy... If you were to get stranded here, that's almost certain death on a ship.

So avoiding all of that and navigating beautifully. The ship is going to be pelted with wind and ice. And... Let's see here. Thankfully, the wind after the turn is made is going to be on the side of the ship. So that is good news. That will not only not slow you down, but it's gonna speed you up. Almost to an unhealthy degree. Like you guys are going to be rocketing through the water here. Uh oh. Just landed right in Aubrey. We're going too fast. Just skipping on some of the water surface. Almost hydroplaning on top of the water. This is going to cause a new complication.

And what we're going to do is... I'm going to have everybody roll a 42 check. Ooh, I'm good at that. We're going to use our Constitution, I think. Constitution, yeah. Okay. As this ship is skimming atop the water here. And each time it breaks as the waves crash into it. The ship is not going to land as solidly as it normally does. It's going to land starboard first and it's going to jostle everyone up top. Heirlove and Keldon are going to take a tumble and are going to start to roll, just sort of pitch and then roll over to the starboard side. And they are both going to land shoulder first into the guardrail on the top deck.

Ouch. Breland, catch us. Uh, okay. They're not falling over though. They're not falling over, but they did take quite a tumble. And that could be a problem soon. Obviously you don't want to lose your footing on the deck and you don't want to be rolling around. And you definitely don't want to be anywhere near the guardrail. Can I help one of them get up? You sure can. Well, isn't Keldon inside? I think I was done with the pair. Yeah, he's down below. So, yeah, so, Heirlove's the only one in danger of actually falling over. Keldon would be beneath. I will run. He tossed her on the walls.

Heirlove, no! Breland, do me a favor, roll an athletics check. The best choice ever. I just want to wait. Got you. Oh, that's going to be a failure. I would like to use my tin. So, fifteen. Yeah. That is going to be a failure. So, I'm sorry, dude. You sounded so optimistic. Good playing though. Good playing though. Good. Yeah. You got to do it. Yeah. Phew. Um, Heirlove, okay, so, Heirlove is shoulder first against this guardrail, and the momentum of the ship is kind of keeping her from standing up. Breland is going to almost mine walk over to where Heirlove is lying.

And in the process of trying to help her up, he is going to start to lose his footing. And there is going to be a nasty wave that is going to break against the front of the ship, and Breland is going to take a tumble. Breland, do me a favor, roll one more athletics check. Oh, yeah, that's a good one. Much better. Breland is going to go over the side of the ship. Oh, I'm dead. And just barely cling to the guardrail, but he is hanging. He is now hanging outside of the ship. You have one success, one failure. Actor Ronis, would you like to act? I would like to run right after him.

Okay. And hopefully not fall. Do me a favor, roll an athletics check. Ah, my. That's 14. That is sadly going to be a failure. We are going to die. One success, two failures. Does Breland weigh less than 20 pounds? Actually, I was looking at that earlier, I am definitely more than 20 pounds, because the stuff I have costs like. Okay. What side of the ship did he fall? This would be Starboard, this would be the right side. From below, is Cauldron, what side of the ship is he on? Right side, but he is on the ground. Okay, so there is not much I can do. Not too much you can do.

Okay. Could destroy the hole you plugged. And reach for them. Am I, did I, sorry, I am just wondering if I am also clinging outside of the ship. No, no, no, no, no, what's happening with Actor Ronis is, on the way, the problem is, thanks to the ice and the wind, Actor Ronis is going to start to freeze up again. And he is going to become just a little too stiff, and when you are on the water you need to be able to bend your knees, and you need to be able to be a little more fluid. The problem is Actor Ronis can't do that, and he is going to pitch over and tumble into the side of the guardrail along with Erolove.

Hi there. Hi. Dagon, would you like to do me a favor and roll an Arcana check please? See if you can navigate your way. Hey that's good, it's over 20. So everybody has been rolling six and under. Yeah, we're going, we're going pretty bad. So would Bralyn still cling into the outside of the ship? Yeah, it's awesome, it's like Fast and the Furious. We're going to jump the ship between two buildings. Yep. Dagon is going to do his absolute best to try and avoid some of these larger waves so that the crew of the Elionda could maybe right themselves and stand up and not die.

So in doing so, he is sort of steering left and right, Gordon Starboard or whatever, ship people out there, and he is going to just barely manage to avoid some of the larger waves. Yeah. That is a success, two success, two failures. We only need three successes, right? Yeah, one more, we got it. You only need three successes. Can we just have Dagon roll another Arcana? Yeah. Not quite how it works. Here's the thing, do you remember how I told you guys that there was some lightning? Nope. Yeah. Nope, I didn't hear that. Thunder snow. We are going to roll a flat D20.

If it's a 10 or above, then none of the lightning is going to strike near you. If it's a one through five, it is going to strike the ship. So let's see how this plays out, guys. Oh my God. Fuck everything. Well, where does it strike the ship? Tallest point, right? Yup. I asked for the blow up. The sail's on fire. What's going to happen is that Dagon is squinting into the middle distance here, trying to see anything as Ice is just pelting his face. He's sort of wrapping his face in his cloak and just the furs that you guys are wearing and doing his best to avoid the larger waves.

As he's doing that, and little Braelyn is dangling over the side of the ship, a huge lightning bolt is going to streak down from the sky. And just as that's happening, you're going to hear this huge clap of thunder. It is going to strike the center mast and split it down the center. Wood shrapnel is going to fly everywhere, and you are going to lose your main sail. This is going to arc to the side and splinter off from the rest of the ship as it tumbles overboard and lands in the open water. Braelyn. Yes? Clinging to the side of the ship. This is a thick guardrail on the top, and it's icing over quickly.

It's getting increasingly difficult to hold your grip. I'm going to ask that you do me a favor and roll an endurance check. Oh, let's not say that. This has been fun, guys. Ooh, I'm dead. Braelyn is going to start to slip. And he is going to lose his grip on the top of this guardrail. And he is going to sink his nails into the ship itself to try and purchase any leverage. And there are decorative rungs, almost like a banister. And he is going to wrap his little hands around these decorative rungs and cling for dear life. But he is now about three feet lower than he was before.

And the waves are going to be splashing against his back and legs. And the icy cold water is threatening to claim him at any second. And what we're going to do is we're going to have Braelyn take some damage because of that. He's going to take 15 damage. Ouch. Who would like to act here? From Airlove and Actaronis' perspective, does it just look like he fell overboard, or do we see him clinging? You know what? Do me a favor, both Actaronis and Airlove, roll a perception check. You are both going to spot his little hands at the base of where the ship would be, so the deck.

So just where the deck would start, and then you'd have the decorative rungs and then the thick banister, the thick guardrail that would be around that. You're going to see his little hands desperately clinging, white-knuckled onto the side of the ship. Because that greatly affects if I just jump overboard or not. Because if I didn't know he was there, Airlove was just going to jump in and try to grab him. So the sound of this wind is deafening between the ocean and the storm itself, and the wind and the ice hitting you guys. It is deafening and almost blinding.

The ship itself is falling apart on top deck, and things do not look great. You have two successes, three failures. Oh my god, why didn't I do this before? This was one of the things I got for Dagon. It's a thundering summons. You teleport each target to a space adjacent to you. It's a burst, close burst 10. How many targets? Just one? That sounds better. One or two allies in the burst. Well, if you were going to use it, now might be the time. Please save me, please. That's not an attack? It's an encounter power. But it doesn't hurt him? It's for your allies. There's one I can use, but it'll hurt him.

No, don't hurt me. Stop trying to hurt Rylai. If he's unconscious up on the deck, that's better than... I won't lie, my last resort was taking my scimitar and just like... Shaking his hand. So that his little hand would be stuck to the... Wouldn't be the first time my hand's been fucked up. But I guess you're going to act faster than me, so... Oh, okay. And it's really awesome too, because it's part of my... What is it called? Paragon Path. I took on Thundering Smite, so I got some thunder powers. So with a Thundering Word, you call your allies to your side.

So as soon as the lightning strikes the boat, I just use that thunder and lightning power to call Raelid to me. Oh my god. So you did this to the mast. Paint a picture here, Susan. Paint a picture. So you are soaking wet, lying on the deck of the ship against these guardrails. And you see the mast go down. You have lost your mainsail. And you see Braelyn's little hands gripping the side of the ship. What would Erolove do? I think as the lightning strikes and the mast breaks, the lightning's still going through the boat, so that goes towards her. And then she screams out and slams on the deck, "Braelyn, don't you fall!" And then he teleports to her.

I probably show up with my hands, so I'll stretch out. Oh, wait. Plus one priority. That is amazing. And then I jump to rescue Braelyn and fall. Less amazing. There's no role necessary for this, obviously. So Braelyn is going to be on the deck again, secure and safe. One space next to me. You're going to look at Erolove and say, "I definitely peed my mains." And he's going to hug her. He's going to hug her as tight as he can. And freeze her. Put his hips out a little bit. Yeah, put his waist out backwards. I don't want him to get any pee on her. We should have done that to stay warm. [laughter] Dagon.

Do me a favor. Roll an Arcana check. Minus two. Come on, chief. There is now no mainsail. You are almost dead in the water, if not for the wind. Not for the wind picking up on the lesser sail in the back. And the fact that you already had enough momentum from skimming across the top of the water to begin with, you would just have to take the full brunt of this storm. There would be nowhere to go. You would have no maneuverability. And you would be taking huge waves on the broad side of the ship, which is not what you want to do. Fortunately, Dagon had the concentration enough to continue to steer the ship, even with all of this happening.

And he is going to pilot it to less choppy waters and eventually, outside of the influence of the storm. You guys are now safe. You guys are now safe in the basin. And you are making your way as far inland as you can. I'm glad this isn't a video podcast because I am... My face is crazy right now. [laughter] Oh my god. Remember when I said I was going to fall off something again? Yeah. I had a feeling. Hey, I didn't let you. I hate to do this. Yeah. Maybe a good time for us to stop at the end because it's midnight on the East Coast. Next time we play, it's going to be a hell of a lot longer.

That was so good. That was a good one. You guys did... Man, it... You made it interesting. Oh. Oh yeah, for sure. Was that the goal? Was that what we were supposed to do? [laughter] It was mentioned that you were trying to make it interesting. If that were the goal, mission accomplished. Oh yeah. Are we getting a new ship? I feel like... I was going to say, before we leave, Brandon's going to look at Dagon as we get out of the storm and be like, "Hey, chief, I think we're going to need a new boat." A bigger boat. No, just a new one. And then I look, I just look behind me and point to the giant remains of the mast, just like the wooden splinters.

It's almost like a... Like when you break a pencil in half, basically is what I'm envisioning. Air love looks sheepish. She might have done that. [laughter] Tip, call you back, Braylin. It can be fixed, but it's not happening right now. Definitely not. I'd celebrate, but I'm on my back with my limbs just frozen. Frozen. [laughter] Waddling. Oil, oil! But I won't speak, not to draw attention to it. I feel so bad about this ship. I hope nobody notices. Well, I mean... It sucks so hard. You guys are barely into your journey and you've already left this ship. We'll find another ancient Aladrin ship.

Yeah! Aw, I forgot about that part. It's pretty rare. It's kind of priceless. We basically just ripped up a Tarzard holographic first edition card, guys. [laughter] You know, when... We're just going to have to go take Amara back or something. [laughter] Yeah, well, I mean, it saves us the trouble of repairing it now. Got to break an omelet. It is repairable. Yeah, yeah, for sure. It's just... Just wait for summer. One month of our three month timeline gone. [laughter] No, we're way past... We're in the start of winter, right? Or fall. I mean, you started your journey at the beginning of fall.

That is not going to make your journey any less complicated. No, no, no, I'm just talking about time. Like, if we wait... Let's wait until the weather clears up. It's like, nope, the world's over. Oh, yeah, you... [laughter] Yeah, no. You don't have that kind of time. I thought that was a legitimate strategy. I was really considering it. And then I thought about it. I was like, oh, wait a minute. What about dwarves? Do dwarves have ships? That's... Oh, yeah! Dwarves don't like the open water so much. What about Dragonborn? I get it. [laughter] Dragonborn, kind of the same deal.

They like solid ground. There are options, and what we could do is we could totally discuss those on the group page, if you'd like. Hey, this is Ian Duncan. I play Kaldin Haluk on group two.
