Episode 163 of the DNR Podcast is brought to you today by One Deck Dungeon. If you're looking for a game you can play at home, but you don't want to set up a ton of tokens and pieces, you don't want to set it up for four hours like a game of Monopoly, you don't want a big to-do.
You're just looking for a small, contained game you can have fun with your friends with. Then go to dandrpodcast.com right now and click the One Deck Dungeon banner, and you'll be whisked away to their Kickstarter campaign, which is well overfunded right now. What does that mean? That means that they are just hitting stretch goals. If you pledge to get a copy of the game, then you'll get all the stretch goals that they've unlocked. They're on their way to unlocking actual wooden tokens, things like that. Really, really, really cool stuff. It's a game featuring four different adventurers working your way through a dungeon.
It's very roguelike, and it's contained within 54 cards and a set of tokens. You'd also get multiple copies of the game for bigger parties. So go to dandrpodcast.com right now, click on the One Deck Dungeon banner, and go ahead and back these fine folks from Asmandi Games. Let's do that thing where we go around the table and introduce ourselves. I'm Jason, I'm the Dungeon Master. Going around the table, starting with Xavier. - Hey, I'm Xavier, and I play actor-on-the-ist the Revenant cleric. - And Susan. - Hey, I'm Susan, I play Heir Love Grimnest, the Tiefling Invoker.
- And Ian. - Hey, I'm Ian, I play Cauldron Halec, the half-elf sorcerer. - And James. - Hey, it's James, I play Dagon the Aladdin silent. - And last, and of course not least, is Alex. - Hey, I'm Alex, and I play Braelon, the Tiefling Bard. - Okay, I'm gonna ask a very important question. Who is tired of not sailing? - Me! - Me, me, me! - Me! - Are we not sailing yet? - No, I mean, in a second, technically you will be, but I mean, I wanted to pick things up right as you guys are pulling up anchor, you are casting off, I would imagine there's a lovely little creek coming from the boat, but that's the ship, sorry, not boat.
So I got my ass chewed out for that, I slipped and caught it a boat a few times, and man, there's some nautical fanatics out there. - Well, if it was a boat before, it's a ship now. - Right, there you go. - Oh, that's right, we got this repaired. - Yes! - We got the sweetest. - You guys spent about two solid weeks in the lovely town of Aubrey, and you helped them out with an issue, and then they helped you out with an issue. Let me see, actor on us got clean. - You're welcome. - He had a really hard time getting clean. - You guys checked into a lovely facility.
- You could say he left a part of himself in Aubrey. - Lots of little people. (laughing) - You're talking about the orb, right? - Sure. - Corn flakes. - Soggy corn flakes. - You guys got the ship repaired, you have your lovely new dragon scale armor. That took, when did you guys, that was last year you guys got those dragon scales. - Something like that. - We've been hauling them for a while. - We've been carrying them, yeah, we didn't earn them for shit. - No, we did not. - Well, in a way it was- - A birthright. - Odysseus got destroyed, so we took the scales, that was fair.
- And we saved the people who took it down, so that was payment for saving them. - And we waited a year for it, so I'd say we worked for it. - Dude, you guys have been sitting on those scales, I did the math, it's been about 11 months. - It's skill-free scales though. - Yeah. - I just rolled in and got some scales. (both laughing) - So that's awesome, you have your lovely new armor, that's on the, now for those of you at home, if you're into character stat type stuff, essentially what this armor is, it boosts them from a plus two to a plus three, and they all have negative, they have 10 resist to fire, so that's cool, and there may be a surprise or two way down the road, we don't know.
So let's pick up anchor, let's set sail, and now if I'm not misremembering things, the plan was to make your way to Brightport, which would be the last major port before you set sail for T'Lor, correct? - Yes. - Yeah, yeah. - Full of confidence, yes. - Yes, you guys are brimming with it. Now here's some good news, you will not be encountering any more glaciers or icebergs or, that's done, you guys are past the roughest part, unless you sail really far north, which I don't see why you would, that's the good news. The potential bad news is that there are threats in the water and the surrounding areas and stuff, but we'll get to that if we need to.
- I got a question, what day is it in game? - It is the 14th of Thorim. - Thank you. - And for those of you who need a refresher, because it's been a while for you guys, the Blood Moon, which you are all tracking, is about 46 days away and will be happening on the 4th of Rangway, and the calendar is on the website still, and I think you guys still have links to it, if you need one though, let me know. - That date is well noted in bright pink letters on my sheet. - Ah, it's bright red on my whiteboard, it's bright red and circled. - Oh no. - The calendar could be found under content on the website.
- It's 4th of Rangway? - Rangway. - Rangway, okay. - So if no one has anything else, then I think we need to start that passage of time, how's that sound? - Braille and Walshot, no, my iPhone charger. - Whirlpool. - Oh shit, that's right. - I'll give it a shot. - I think that opportunity is best. - You guys. - We'll talk about the whirlpool ever again. - Someone else might find out about it, you never know, maybe. - We just don't have time, we'll come back later. - Yeah, get you in there. - After we save, or maybe help save the world. - Just before new game plus.
- Yes. - But when I say area. - Who would like to do me a favor, and roll a flat D20, to see how we're gonna kick this off? - Feeling hot, I wanna do it. - Feeling hot? - Yeah, feeling hot. - Let's do it. - Yeah. - Okay, and here we go. - That is solid. - That's as hot as I get. - So average. - Yeah, pretty good. - That would be, we'll get raped by dolphins. - They're so smart though. - That's, yeah, exactly, it's bittersweet. - So majestic. Making your way out of the frost basin, you're gonna spend, let's say, the better part of the day making it past, making it past the stone sunder mountains.
So that'll wrap you up. You are now in the 15th of Thor. And you are going to start, I'm guessing, and this is just me guessing, anyone who may have their map open, right around Barrier Bay, you're gonna see those little land masses, little islands protruding. I'm guessing you're gonna give those a wide berth and just sail around them instead of between them all. - Can I roll a history check to see if I know stuff that exists there? - Or if there's shallow land that we could-- - You can either, it depends on what you're, if you're looking for what those land masses are like, you can give me a nature check, or you can give me history if you wanna find out what might be on those islands.
- History's one of my good ones. - Okay. - Oh God. - Well, it's not bad at all, dude. On those islands, they're mainly there for, there's not too many people living on them. Mostly people sail out to them because there's herbs and things like that. It's about as far north as you can go before things just start freezing. And on those islands, there's different herbs and stuff that apothecaries use. And so there's kind of a trade for them. You can, especially in places like Brightport, oh my God, yeah, you guys could make a small killing doing stuff like that.
However, if someone would like to do me a favor and roll a nature check. - I can do both. - I'll sit here and do that. - I'm plus 10. - Yeah, you did. - Plus 11. - Oh, nevermind, you do it. (all laughing) - Watch, I've sucked this up. - Oh, that's not bad. Those islands are not without danger. It's not a job everyone can do or everyone would be rich, right? So there are certain wildlife threats there and certain, the little bits of forest and stuff are dotted with hazards. - Jason, would a 22 let me know if Orash sends outposts or has like fucking dragonborn scouts out there on those islands?
Or would I have to, would it just be something I didn't know? - They tend not to leave the mainland. Dragonborn are not a fan of boats at all. Not a fan. 'Cause most of them aren't a fan of water. - Okay, so you tell me they are the worst kind of pirates because they're bad at aquatic things. - Pretty much, yeah. - Excellent. - Side note, there's a series of three islands that look like a happy anime face. - Yes, yes. - So Laura looks like a giant animal. - Side side note, the sun makes it look like it's a happy sun. - Yeah. (laughing) - Happy sun with the anime face.
- Yeah, yes. (speaking in foreign language) - So it's greeting you on your way past. - And so are we going around? - That's a good sign. - Straight through. - How many hours can we save if we say it right now? - No, no, no, no, no. - Is it two or four? - Well, funny you should ask. Now, here's the thing. - He's asking. - No, it's a good question, guys. Here's the thing, near the islands, you do have to worry about like running aground, obviously. And then there's some watery rocks, things like that, that could really fuck your boat up. Ship, sorry, really fuck your ship up.
That's something you're gonna wanna look out for. But the further you sail north, the more likely you're going to run into like larger aquatic creatures, that type of thing. But again, it all depends on what you guys see as the bigger threat. - Okay, so when we hit the iceberg, it's because I took manual control of the ship. If I remain on mental communication with the ship, however it works, then we should be safe. - Well, it'll automatically, the ship will basically automatically take the safest path. - Ha, yes. - It'll automatically, it's usually the slower path, but it's, yeah.
The way it's meant to be is like, oh, you guys can go to sleep. The ship will steer itself for the most part and it'll take care of things as long as you're present. But it will be the slowest, safest way. Think like the ultimate cruise control. And since Aladrin don't really sleep anyway, it's more of a-- - Yeah, yeah. - Well, I'm up for that considering what happened last time. - Yeah, I vote. - What do you guys think? - I vote. - Yes, got it. - Lesson learned. - Okay, had a feeling. - There's no storms on the horizon this time, right? - No. - Oh, I forgot about that.
- No, sir. - How would that happen, please, sir? (laughing) - I rolled a 10. - Happy Therian anime sun is-- - This is clearly the best part. This is clearly the best part of Theria right there. It doesn't get any better. (laughing) - It's all puppies and kittens. - Yeah, it's like 10 times better than Theribae. - Is that Puppy Island? Puppy and kittens, respectively. - It's actually Puppy Snuggle Island. - Oh, wow. - The most deadly island in the world. (laughing) - What's the old Treehouse of Heart, the Simpsons one, where they're sailing to pick up the King Kong Homer and it's like, "Oh, I wish we weren't going to Spider Skull.
"I wish we were going to Candy Apple Island." It's like, "What's on Candy Apple Island?" It's like, "Oh, apes, but they're not as big." - Yeah. (laughing) That's one of the first, one of the original ones. - That's like three? - Yeah, I think so. - Okay, so that 10, let me tell you what that 10's gonna get you guys. That 10's gonna get you some pretty even sailing. Occasional gusts of wind, a pretty decent sailing all the way up until those islands. Just after you're cresting around those islands and you're starting to head toward Arash. That's gonna buy you a solid 24 hours of decent sailing.
No crazy creatures, no nasty, no nasty weather, nothing like that. You guys are lucking out for the most part. Now, on the other hand, the wind's not always at your back. It's a little slow every once in a while. It's not as fast as it could be, but then again, I mean, you've had it a lot worse. So I'm sure no one's gonna complain. Who would like to do me a favor and roll another flat D20 right about the midway? You're north of Barrier Bay here. So you're gonna, you're rounding the corner and you're going to sail past Arash and then continue around. So who would like to do me a favor and roll a flat D20?
- I guess I'll do it, 'cause I wanna do it the first time. - Again, you are now on the 15th of Thorn. - Oh God, I'm gonna apologize in advance. Okay guys. - You don't know it's gonna be bad. - Whoa! - Oh, hey! - Hey! - Time cruise control. (laughing) - Now, this time, let's see here. You are going to continue to sail past these islands. You're going to see, obviously land, the mainland. To your right, like off the, I don't know what that is. I painted myself no corner here. I don't know nautical terms. - Starboard. - Starboard, is it? Starboard's right, port is?
- Left. - Left, okay. - Port and left both have four letters. - Oh, thank you! - Canadian education, save me. - Genius, yeah! - Don't leave it up to us, man. We're gonna, we're gonna mess it up. - Now, can you say it in French? - I know the trick in French. - I don't know starboard and port in French. - The board and tribord. - Whoa, say it again. - The board and tribord. - God, that's sexy. - Oh my God. - Can you do a bad dragon head? - I'll take you port side. - And board your star? - There's gotta be a sea creature dildo on there, I'm sure. - Yeah, there is. - It's just a tentacle.
- All right, land ho. - Land ho, yeah, well, yes. I don't think anyone is gonna, uh, go there, but yeah, that is an option. So you're gonna continue to sail well into the afternoon. Time is gonna tick by. If anybody wants to do anything at any point, by the way, just say, "Hey, I wanna speak to so-and-so," or whatever. Other than that, I'm just gonna imagine that you guys are doing your own thing here. - Yeah, I think we're all worried about the boat, or the ship. - Probably, yeah. - So, the 16th, it's gonna tick over into the 16th, right about the time you guys hit.
You are north of Umineiro, and you'll be able to see the city floating in the sky. Let me ask you a question. Have any of you ever been to Umineiro? - Bralin's heard of it, he's never been there. - Never been there? - Never been there. - So what would-- - Probably been fine. - Yeah, I would imagine Dagon's at least seen most of the cities, at least. - Yeah, he's probably been there. That have been a family trip or something for the Grimnesses. - I wouldn't-- - No. - I wouldn't imagine. (laughing) - Bralin flips off Umineiro. - That's what I was gonna ask, what would everybody think like seeing this giant floating city?
- I would probably have many questions, but I guess I would have heard about it, especially being on the east coast. - Yeah, it's not a secret city. - Yeah, exactly, I would probably just marvel at the sight of it. But do you think it would be beneficial to stop there? - There's a time. - Do they even have a port for regular boats? - You'd have to, I mean, not for the city, that would have been in the city, in the sky. You'd have to pretty much dock somewhere and pretty much hike the road the rest of the way back, but you could do it. - What would be an Umineiro you wanna check out, James?
- I mean, they're- - Puddles? - Yeah, that's what I was thinking. - They're smart guys, like they- - Is the bracelet pulling you there? - What is the bracelet doing right now? - That is an excellent question. - Oh, work. - Dagon's gonna feel a couple of different pulls. It's weird, it's the first time he's ever really felt this. It feels like the bracelet wants to pull him in two separate directions, like two violently different directions, but it's not something where it's jerking his arm back and forth. It's like, if he were to close his eyes and think about it, which is something that he's kind of discovered as he's had this bracelet on, the more he concentrates on it, the more he can just sort of like feel it, like sense it.
And one is pulling like way south. Like he can just feel that, like that's kind of been a constant though. That one feels like it's been a constant. The direction's changed as you've changed directions, but yeah, south is where you're feeling it. And the other is pulling you very, very far east that appears to be out into the sea. - Huh. Well, the south one could be on a call. - And it could be connecting it to T'Lor. - It could be. - Or Drake Island. Forgot what we were- - At least that's far out. - If we knew for sure how to work, like how the gate works and I could power it for sure, I'd say let's go to Onakol.
But- - Oh. - But would our characters make that assumption? - Well, here's the thing. - I know there's a gate in Onakol. - That's the thing. The only one to know that there's a gate in Onakol is Dagon. - Huh. - Did I know about the gates in Onakol? - I would say no, because this was something that was sort of locked away and like there were researchers on it, but it was not something widely spread within the city. - Sweet. - Aight. - Huh. - I mean, I have an idea of how the gate might work, but it seems- - We're right here. - I say if anything, we might go, if there is one in T'Lor, we would take that one back to Onakol.
- Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. - 'Cause I think that's gonna be one of our destinations. - Yeah, 'cause we wouldn't wanna put it to chance going to Onakol. But like, if we have to get back in a hurry, we would totally take any chance we had. - Depends on how desperate things get and how much time is taken, you know. - Out of character question. I do remember an episode of group two where they went in and basically street cleaned all the zombies out. - Yep. - Okay. - Well, we don't know what we got. - With the two houses too. - Yeah, I just don't remember if they did, if they finished the job or it was like, let's get out of here.
- They forgot one. - It was Slay Big Dragon, let's get out of here. - Yeah, we got most of them. - Oh, so they're still like, - I'd say we got a lot of them, but I wouldn't say we got a whole lot. - But didn't the other houses like clear out the city and then meet up with them? - That's the thing, they were left to do it, no one's ever checked in. - Oh shit. - Maybe they all turned to-- - Just full of Silverclaw zombies. - Oh, we'll figure out when we get to Brightport, right? Who made and who didn't. - Okay, so I think for now Dagon would close his eyes and think about how it's pulling and just go through that rationale in his head that as much as he knows the ones there in Onikol, he'd like to go there, but without enough knowledge to back it up, sail to Talor and they can get back there.
- What about Doom and Eero? Are we already past that? - No, I'm waiting to hear what you guys have like to say. - If we're gonna find out something, it might be like this one, this opportunity right now, but I don't know if Eoronas would make that, that connection. - And wouldn't our characters at this point just be like, we have to get going? - Yeah. - It's more the matter of like, if it helps us come back and travel anywhere in a flash, that could be in like two days. - Oh, you wanna-- - It can stay too long, but like at least see if someone could help us, like Dagon with his firsthand experience more than anyone else in Onikol, although that's not-- - Help us with the gate.
- You wanna check in and see if anyone knows about-- - Yeah, it's the place for like that kind of knowledge. - I see, okay. - That's a good idea, yeah, it's just, I don't know. Anyone would have that knowledge other than-- - Yeah, I think Dagon's the only guy who would know, right? - Would I? Do I need to do the check? - Okay, so your-- - I mean, I can make assumptions, but. - For, okay, what are we assuming here? What are we doing a check for exactly? What you would know about Uminero itself? - Specifically, well, 'cause I don't know why he would go there and ask about gates before he'd even seen a gate, you know?
I think it would just all be assumptions at this point. - Yeah, yeah, my, oh, go ahead. - Well, just like, we're on the clock here, and it's like-- - Yeah, it's really just a matter of like, it's a city full of magical knowledge, and if it can help us save time at the end, it might be like, we invest-- - It's very headed to a city full of magical knowledge, though, for at least a, yeah. - You mean on Talor? - Mm-hmm. - Yeah. - And those supposedly geniuses, right? The fucking Gizarai. - Depending on who you guys-- - Depending on me, no, no, no, no, no. We're not picking sides, don't do that.
- Yeah, I have a note that says, "Don't pick sides." (laughing) - No, I'm picking the Gizarai side. - Ah, Tyrrhenia, stop getting addicted to drugs. (laughing) - If they can hook me up on some orbs, oh my god. - You guys got any orbs? - No, but it is like a big, underlined, highlighted note. - All right, so yes or no on stopping at Duman-Yirro. I would say, I'm gonna say no. - I think no because, I think because we've, you know, delayed ourselves two weeks, Dagon's pretty interested in getting to lure as quickly as possible. - All right then. - Considering we have to stop and break for first, I think he'd wanna just keep going.
- Yeah. - Tough choices. - Where it would be wise to stop there, I think at this point, we're kinda just throwing caution to the wind and saying we have to get there. - 'Cause we didn't know the deadline before, like we had a general rough outline. Now it's like, oh yeah, you have 46 days. Well, as of now, 44 days, right? - Mm-hmm. - Our papers started with like 90 days. - Yeah, we started off pretty high. Pretty high when we started. - Yeah, a lot of things have been coming to light as time goes by here. So sailing on, you guys are about to sail, I'm guessing around, I don't wanna put words in your mouth, but I'm guessing around Drake Island.
- It's known to have pirates around it, right? - Yes, right, right, okay. From Drake Island on, you guys are hitting some known like pirate activity here, like this, you guys could run into some trouble. - Would we not run a straight line from Umineiro to Brightport? - Yeah, it would be the fastest. - If you'd like, you could do that too. Like if you were, like if you wanna sail inward, like in between those islands and just sit, 'cause it's a huge gap, like it's not like the icebergs. - Right through, what is it? - Oh, the Allienda was built for- - Butcher's Bay is the- - Butcher's Bay.
- There's a reason it's called that. - Yes. - Let me open the module real quick and make sure. (laughing) - Was Phallus's name originally the Butcher of Butcher's Bay? - No. (laughing) He didn't kill anything in the water, he's not much for sailing, but the pirates there do. - But if I was a pirate, I would set traps in between those two enclosed places. - We are pirates. - But like- (laughing) - Allow me this little bit of meta-gaming, but worst case scenario, we encounter pirates, and it's gonna be pretty cool. (laughing) - We kill the hydra, we can kill pirates.
- Unless they're Uminyaro pirates, then we have a problem. - Okay, so we know that Dragonborn are the worst pirates, WooHoo would be the best pirates. - Well, that is- - Mermaids. (laughing) - Pups and kittens. - Dolphins, no. - Oh God. - Do me a favor, roll a history check. - Everybody or just- - Everybody, everybody get in on this. - So this could be a fun lore thing here. - Oh no, crit one, my brain exploded. (laughing) - All my Brightport knowledge is coming back to me. - Oh dude, Airlove's gonna sit everybody down and tell them about pirates. So guys, come here.
- Sit around this fire I'm just sitting inside of. - Oh man, size. - Stop making fires on this ship. (laughing) - We fixed that with the upgrade. - And then she's like, I'm resistant, I'm fine. - Yeah. - We all are now. - Okay, so there are no shortage of small ships out there trying to make a name for themselves and they'll, basically it's just like smaller ships trying to bully either poorly defended cargo ships or even smaller ships than that just trying to make passage somewhere, right? And then you get to aquatic ne'er-do-wells who have kind of got a reputation about themselves, larger crews or worst case scenario, actual famous pirates in the area who have multiple ships and they will set themselves up so that they chase down ships that look like they might be worth something or look like they might be carrying something of value or something of rarity and do terrible things to them.
And among them, there's actually a pretty famous crew of tiefling pirates. You don't wanna run into them, but the odds of you, here's the thing, it's a big ocean, right? The odds of you running into them, like if I asked you to roll a flat T20 like I'm about to ask you in a couple of seconds, you'd have to roll insanely low for there to even be a chance of that. And I'm sure that's not gonna happen. So now it is. - So I'm not rolling. So you're daring us not to roll incredibly long. - No, no, no, no, no, not at all. I'm just telling you what could be out there.
You guys got this. I'm not even worried about it. - Do they have a name? We didn't know the name of this band of Jolly Pirates. - Barmeeros is the name of the tiefling captain and he captains three ships. Two of them are pretty damn quick. The one he actually rides aboard is slower, but it doesn't need to be fast. The other two are meant to flank and slow down the ship that they're chasing and then once they catch up, things get ugly. - How fast are they compared to the Allianz? - Well, the Allianz is one of the fastest ships in the area, but the problem is if they have multiple ships, it could make things difficult.
- I say we just go in and pull the throttle back straight for Brightport. And the wind has to cooperate is the other thing. - So you're telling me this is basically Star Trek Voyager, the whole first season. (laughing) And the tieflings are those, what are they called? - Ferengi? - No. - No. - No, no, no, Voyager, those. - Oh, really? - I forgot. It's not important, but they're nasty and they're mean and they got different kinds of size ships and they don't depend on speed. It depends on having more than you. - The Allianz is fast enough for you, old man. (laughing) - Did the Butcher Bay run in 12 par six.
(laughing) - So, I mean, here's the thing. Again, the odds of you running into that specific pirate are pretty rare. And it's not a death sentence, it's just don't let them catch you, basically. - It's a fight and we are a pretty hot ass ship too. I forgot about that. - Oh, you are, that you're meant for speed, not fighting. The thing is, if you can outrun them, perfect. If nature, for some reason, decides to throw a monkey wrench into things, that could get bad. If they catch up to you, I mean, you're talking about three captained ships, like three crewed ships of pirates.
That could be really bad. - Let's do it. - I'll roll it. - All right. - Yay. - Okay. (laughing) - Oh my God. - I've always wanted to fight a pirate. - We're fighting three. - We're fighting three, all right. - That was a one? - Yeah, that was a one, everybody. - I am so sorry. (laughing) - You know what, Ian? This wouldn't be group two if we didn't do this. (laughing) - They're, yeah, our ship. - I mean, we made it two days without incident. That's pretty good. - All right, so Dagon yells, "Set sail!" And then the wind dies down. - And we just don't move. - We're almost there, another one.
- Oh yeah, oh. - Okay. Wow, guys, guys listening at home, that was a one. - Well, you don't have to rub it in. - I'm not, I just, like, the odds. Here's what we're gonna do. You know you're getting something bad, but we don't know that it's pirate bad yet. Here's what I'd like you to do, Ian. I want you to roll another flat D20, a saving throw. If it's 10 or higher, it isn't that specific bad that we were just talking about. - It's a different bad? - It's a different bad. (laughing) - All right. Forgive me. - Woo! - Okay. - Right? - Okay. - I was 12. - Let's put that one in our pockets for a bit.
How about we do that? - Deep in the pocket. - Deep, deep in that pocket. Here's what's gonna happen, guys. You are going to weave in between these islands here and sail around Uminero, which means you'll get a much closer look from the bottom. Like, you'll kind of see the undercarriage of the city, and you can see where it was almost, it looks like it was scooped out of the ground itself, kind of just kind of pointed rocks and things underneath it, where the bit of the mainland itself was scooped up and then jettisoned into the sky. You guys are gonna make your way south and kind of caress Butcher's Bay.
You're going to make your way around, and you are going to get close to the city of Brightport. You are almost getting ready to crest over into the 17th of Thorim. Now, you have some options here. You can either just dock at the city and then kind of make your way into town here and do something there, or you can wait till morning and dock the ship. It's up to you what you want to do. - Bralin's gonna gather everybody around. It's still nighttime. We're not in the city yet, right? - No, no, no, no. It's almost midnight, though. - Okay. - Well, if everyone can gather on the deck or maybe down below wherever we can meet, he would want everyone to...
He would call an unofficial meeting. - We've got a great new room now for this. - Yeah, we have a common area. - Oh, yeah, we have a common area. - I like what you did with the place. - War Command Center. All right, so he's gonna grab everyone if they show up into the main, whatever, our meeting room, our conference room. Everyone's gonna be there, I assume. - Yes. - Mm-hmm. - Very big table, big beautiful map on it. Lots of tapestries hanging everywhere. - It is amazing what you can do with a lot of labor. (laughing) - Ian was the lead foreman on the boat.
- Yeah. Just a lot of non-unionized labor. - Bralin's gonna wait for everyone to come in, and he's gonna take a deep breath, speak up. So, guys, I just want to say before we get into Brightport, I talked to our boss, and he's gonna point to Dagon, I talked to him a little bit about my hesitation going into Brightport. I'm supposed to be dead. In that city, I don't exist anymore. My family is pretty well off, and they earned that fortune off my back, or I should say, my gift. And he's gonna pull out his loot. I was forced to work as a bard for a very long time without seeing any pay come my way.
And in the end, I tried to escape. And my own brother tried to basically execute me off the side of a cliff. Lucky for him and myself, it didn't take. And some fishermen found me, and I ended up in Fair Bay. So when we go in there, I'm gonna need everyone to kind of watch out, watch my back. I mean, I know I'm a pretty tough guy sometimes, and he's gonna do a little flex. But when it comes to home, I'm frightened. I have your back, Brelin. You're not the only one who's supposed to be dead. It might help to employ your theatrical skills to maybe come up with a costume or disguise.
- Yeah, yeah. - So you are not as easily recognizable? - I've done it a few times. I've burned through a couple of aliases. I actually, I went back to Brelin, my real name, because I figured it's been long enough that they weren't looking for me outside the city anymore. They assumed I was dead. But yeah, I might be able to come up with one before we dock. Shouldn't take that long. - What was the event that caused this attempt at Fretricide? - Well, I used to have a, I guess you'd call him a teacher, but I mean, he was more of a friend to me, really good friend.
His name was Danny. One night, I was playing in a local tavern, and he saw me, gave me some pointers, gave me some tips. And then on, became kind of an instructor. It's because of Danny that I got so good at playing this instrument. He actually even taught me a little bit of the magic that I know. I just thought it came with being a bard. I didn't really think it was anything to do with, you know, channeling elements, things like that. It wasn't really anything we discussed. He just seemed to really think I had a knack for it. He convinced me to leave. He, you know, he saw what I was worth.
Saw me as an equal, and we left, toured a little bit. We didn't get that far before my brother and a bunch of goons showed up. When my brother shot me off the cliff, Danny fell with me too. When the fishermen found me, they said that he was the one who got me on the boat and then died as soon as we hit the deck. Actually, it's kind of funny. I buried him in Fair Bay. I was coming back from his grave when I ran into you guys, and then he's gonna look at Dagon. - But unsettling that your own brother would try to kill you. - Yeah, money does things to people.
Halflings are no exception. - But in the end, his heart was true. I'm incredibly sorry to hear this sad tale. - Yeah, it's not one I like to tell, obviously, as you can see, but I mean, I trust you guys. I mean, you saved my life. I've done what I can for the group. I just thought I should give you guys the heads up before we dock. If I may seem a little, you know, on edge, it's no fault of yours. It's the bright part, it's the city. - And what happens if you're discovered? Will you face your family? - That's a good question, Dr. Ronis. It's gonna like stretch.
Well, if I have to, you know, I'm no stranger to a good rough and tumble, but I really, really, really would rather not fight my brother. - Well, my mother, she has one of the main three houses now. She's looking to Dagon when she says this. She should be able to offer more protection, but Dagon would know more about that because he saw her more recently. That should give you some sort of safeguard. - One of the three houses? Your mom runs one of the three houses. - It's a new development that I'm not entirely familiar with. Dagon would know more about it.
- I was probably gonna look at Dagon with like really, really big, hopeful eyes. - Yeah, this, the people I was with formerly and I took this house and it wasn't for us. And at the time, Tessia had been good to us and it just seemed like a right fit. So we put the house in her hands and we left. - Okay, so I mean, she's still in charge, right? - As far as I know, and I'm sure we would have sanctuary there. - Huh, oh, no sweat guys, nevermind. I forget everything I just said. - But, Bralen, if we encounter your brother or any of your family, what would you have us do?
- His expression is gonna change. Well, I never really thought about you guys fighting my family, but if I really dig deep down enough inside myself, they wouldn't be missed in my eyes. He's not gonna look at anyone in the face when he says that, he's gonna look at the ground, kind of spacing out. - This doesn't have to end in a fight, Bralen. Some blood ties run deeper than money. - I wish that were true, Actoronus. I mean, I used to think that all the time, every night when they made me perform. But it didn't seem like that was the case with my family.
- Time has passed, give them a chance. Family is a strong, strong thing. - Calden's just gonna look at Bralen and say, and Bralen, the things that test us make us stronger. You have come back to this city from the brink. You can walk in with your head held high. You are a powerhouse. The mountain is not sorry for her storms, and you should not be sorry for who you are coming back to this city. - Bralen's gonna smile. - Wow, you sure you don't write songs? He's gonna try and give Calden, like stick his hand out to get a handshake from him. - Calden will grasp his hand and shake it firmly.
- I'll do the predator handshake where it's like the-- - Oh yes. Yeah, Calden has no muscles, so it's just like. But he still does it. - You gotta say, you son of a bitch. - Son of a bitch. - They got to push fences. We're gonna throw out so hard. - Let's all watch Predator. - Yeah. - Arm grasp and then nod. - Calden's gonna look to Errolove and say, you said your mother runs a house, which one? - It was once called Dark Spain. She's looking between Dagon to end Calden, just to make sure she's getting this right. - He'll just nod. - It was called Dark Spain, but now it has been renamed House Dragon's Keep.
- And Calden's eyes are gonna go super wide. He's gonna say, I heard a rumor that there was a house in Brightport that tamed a dragon and had riders upon its back that flew freely through the skies of Theria. Is this true? - Dagon, is this true? - It's true. Sorry. Short story, yes. I had a friend, Baranath. She had a keen ability to be able to speak to the dragon and was then able to befriend her. And yeah, we rode on a dragon. - Calden is gonna perk up and he's gonna say, you've all ridden a dragon, this dragon of Brightport. Can you, is there any chance, if we have time, can you introduce me?
- You're fanboying so hard right now. - I'm sure it can be arranged if she's in the city. Last we saw her, she was on the far west of the continent. - And you said, did you say his name? I guess we're downloading right now, I suppose, this dragon information. - Her name is Amara. - Amara, yeah, and Calden is just gonna sort of like look down and sort of like back away from the table and just shake his head and say, if it's a possibility, I would very much like to meet her. - I'm sure it will pose no problem. - Yeah. - Yeah, I mean, we gotta get a place to stay and if I'm gonna be protected, we gotta stay in, you know, Barilove's mom's house.
- I hope you can speak dragon. I don't think any else of us can. - I am fluent in Draconic, but your friend Baraneth, is that how she spoke with her? - She touched her and then spoke through mind. - Yeah, that's what I thought. - Okay. - No, actually, she had a sort of link to the dragon through their minds. It was something quite special. - It is special indeed. Is she still with us? Does she live at House Dragonkeep? Does she take care of Amara? - They don't kind of look at the ground. Unfortunately, no. We lost her just outside Lockford. - You had like a shiver on my spine.
- I'm very sorry to hear that. If she was a friend, I'm sure you miss her greatly. It seems she had a special ability hidden in her blood, I think, but I would like to know more. - I'm sorry. - I would like to know more. Maybe there'll be some answers at House Dragonkeep. I would very much like to go there when we get to Brightport. It will keep you safe, Braelyn, and he looks at Braelyn, and we will keep you safe. But I must speak with this dragon, I must. - I assume this is our first stop, is just to go straight there. - I agree, yes. - Is someone gonna guard the ship?
- I assume it's in a port, right? - Oh yeah. - Yeah, but it's in Brightport. - Dude, we got the auto-lock system, Captain Dagon. - Unless there's elf pirates, no one's... - And they know what it is. - Yeah, I guess we don't have anything on the ship. - Except our really awesome kick-ass ship. - In this conference room we just discovered. - I'll put the club on the wheel. - Worst case, we can just hire Hammerhand, I guess. - We'd have to leave the ship first. - Yeah, we have to get to Brightport first. - What normally happens in this case, Jason? You bring your ship to port.
- Oh yeah, you bring your ship to port. Usually there's, here's the thing, usually there's a larger crew. We've kind of been over this, but you guys are a party of five. So unless someone wants to stay behind the port, the port portion of Brightport is where some of the scummiest scum hangs out. Now they will not be able, again, unless they're elven, they won't be able to steal your ship. - You said that funny. - You know what other verb could be? Ship. - I mean, we could find out together. (all laughing) Or there may be nothing. I will, okay, I don't usually do this.
- There's someone more than one with the ship. - That's totally, yeah. - I wouldn't mind, especially if Brandon's still terrified. - I say we just pay Hammerhand on this leave. They were trustworthy. - If there's any left, that was the other question we had, 'cause of Uminiro. - We'll get David to take care of it. - I mean, no. (all laughing) - Some of us could just stay on the ship until some of them looks after it. - Chaperone until more chaperones come. - Yeah, okay. - I'm waiting for this one to show up. - Yeah. Oh, there's so many places too. I wanted to save it for the city.
I thought it'd make your trip more interesting. - Okay. - Die on my mother's doorstep. (all laughing) - Bralin volunteers as one of the guards on the ship, just not by himself. - I'll be there with you. - All right, let's do it. - Yeah, I think I need to go. - The old wrecking crew. - I just want to get to House Dragonkeep after, 'cause I wanna meet Arolo-Swan. - Oh yeah, me too. - You gotta check out my sweet portrait on the wall. - Oh yeah. (all laughing) - So Bralin and Acheronus are gonna stay with the ship, and everyone else is gonna go into the city? - Oh yeah, well, Cauldron's going for sure.
- And Bralin has to work on his new disguise. - You could be my-- - I don't know, Amara's gonna eat me if she's there. That's what that one is. (all laughing) - Don't stress. - She's gonna hate you. - Yeah. - She's gonna think you're dumb. - Don't stress, we'll get to the one, don't worry. - I have a question. - Yes. - So as Bralin, I would like to ask Acheronus, if it's not too weird, how much of your skin can you actually peel off? - This? Wow. That's rude. - You don't ask someone that. - I mean, I'm just gonna say, I only ask because I remember when you took off your helmet.
I slightly remember when you took off your helmet, 'cause I was really drunk. And I'm pretty sure if I could get enough of it, I could make some sort of like fake face. (all laughing) - Bralin, I think you're overestimating the tricks you've learned with Artemis. No, uh, no, Bralin, no, no. (all laughing) No, of course not. However, let me give you a counter proposition. And he like grabs his pack with his old armor, and he just like hands it to you. How about you're my squire for the time being? - That's gonna be adorbs. - Yes. - What do you squire? - You're gonna carry my stuff and my stuff.
You're gonna carry my equipment, just like squires do. And you're gonna say yes to my requests. And you're gonna try to impress myself and my entourage, just like squires do. It's nothing complicated really. Dagon does it perfectly. (all laughing) - He's gonna look back down and then look back at Ektoronas. Is this about the orb? - No, of course not. I, this is not a punishment. Being my squire, people would fight over it back home. No, trust me, it's a great honor. - All right, I mean. - Does he have to do his love? - I don't think he's lying. - I mean, it's not a bad gig, I guess.
It's just for the sky's sake. - He's gonna agree, he's gonna, all right. It's not a bad idea. It's better than putting your dead skin on my face. - It's a thousand fold times better. - All right. - Although I do have some leftover hair that you could use as a mustache. - That would be great. - So everyone do me a favor. Roll Perception as you begin to dock the Aluyanda in the city of Brightport. Which by the way, guys, did you know that you were the first group to ever actually use Brightport as a port? - Whoa. - What? - Put that in your achievement list. - Air Love sees the fucking, she sees across the ocean into Talor.
- Yeah. (laughing) - Nailing that reception today. Okay. Let's see, okay. Everybody in the group is going to pick up the following. You guys are going, it's night. And again, by the time you get to the port itself, it is now the 17th, you have crossed over. Now, as mentioned before, the dock portion of Brightport, not the most friendly and welcoming. A lot of these ships are shitburgs, man. Like you're gonna, leaky, crud covered vessels that no self-respecting sailor would use. Now there are a couple of merchant ships too. And you will notice, specifically, Kaladin and Air Love will notice that these slightly larger ships are chock full of very large people wearing lots of armor and carrying very large weapons.
Now, you're gonna guess that they're probably either just part of the crew and made to look intimidating, or they're their hired hands and they are made to look intimidating. Very, putting off a very don't touch our shit vibe. And it's a weird Mexican standoff feeling as you're pulling in, because everyone's sort of looking at everyone else. Everyone's kind of keeping an eye out. And then there are of course, the random scumbags who are drinking and vomiting and fighting near certain ships and just kind of meandering about. Even at midnight, this is still a bustling community.
And Air Love specifically is going to notice that there are a lot of eyes on the Aluyanda and its crew. You guys don't fit in. And it is very quickly becoming apparent that if there's a sore thumb that sticks out, it's this ship and its crew. Okay, how to put this? You are very pretty to be in prison. No. Yeah, I know you were describing like all the other sailors, like, Jesus Christ, we're so delicate and elegant. And we're just sending out Air Love Dagon and Khaldun. Ouch. You should have gave me your skin, Actoronus. Told you. Bring your mace with you. Is it bear mace?
The reaction from everyone is it the look of the ship, the look of us, or is there suspicion about how there's only so few of us on this ship? A few things. And again, Air Love is going to pick up this because it's a very, Khaldun would pick up some of this, like the hungry stairs almost. Like picture a lot of people down on their luck and what it just looked like was a very lightly crewed, valuable looking ship pulls in in the middle of the night. I mean, you know. Will we never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy? Air Love is going to see something else beyond just the hunger, like the, it's like, oh yeah, like that kind of like that, that could be, that's worth a lot.
There are a few people questions like, okay, I count five. Like you're kind of seeing like people like lean over talking and stuff like that. And what it looks to be is them pointing at the crew, themselves, because you guys are an odd lot. You don't look like salty dogs, as it were. You don't look like people who are, who spend a lot of time at sea. It also doesn't look like you're carrying anything. There's no cargo. There's no, like you guys aren't getting ready to unload anything. It doesn't look like that. It's a lighter ship that is clearly not meant for, Air Love can almost see the train of thought, right?
It's like, okay, there's only a few of you that looks like a faster ship. It looks like, so you're not carrying a lot. So what you are carrying must be very valuable. - And we're like beautifully armored. - Oh my God, you guys could not look more pretty. There's a fucking Aladdin as your captain. Like you couldn't be more pretty. Gorgeous new armor and your beautifully manicured, repaired ship. You guys are kind of asking for it. That's all I'm saying. - Yeah, and we're well bathed. - Yes. - Armor, shame us. - Get you dressed like that. - Braylon's gonna have to pull out the bluff here.
- Yeah, before we get off this boat and as we're pulling in, I'm gonna say, all right guys, huddle up. And I wanna get everybody kind of together. - Quick question. - Yes. - How much of this would Air Love tell everybody here? - Oh, okay. Well, I guess this is what would prompt him to say everybody huddle up, she'd go, there we, I'm almost positive that either as soon as we dock or as soon as we step off, we are going to be attacked. - Yes. - There are men in the crowd sizing us up. - Oh man, this seems like an unwelcome port. - So we need to either not dock or make a statement.
- Oh, sorry, go ahead. - I was just gonna say after he says huddle up, I'm gonna put everybody together and I'm gonna inspire competence in all of us. Choose a skill until the end of the encounter, each target gains plus the power bonus to his or her next check in that skill. And this is a non-combat encounter. So we can give us, I can give us a little bonus to try and talk ourselves out of it in case either party A gets in trouble or party B gets in trouble or party all of us get in trouble before we can get off the boat. And I'm gonna cast that and give us all plus two bonus to diplomacy.
- Nice. - So let me mark it as done. - Awesome, break. I would like to do something if you'll let me. I would like to do an intimidation check and Cauldron would like to, as he sees this and we have this discussion, Cauldron would like to step out to the prow of the ship, the front of the ship onto the deck where everyone can see. And I would like to, as we are moving into the port, just in the water around us, like fire up some very large and very intimidating ice spikes around the boat as we come into port to sort of like, one, to make a statement of big, powerful, angry spikes, but to sort of like make little pylons to guide our ship into the bay.
And I'm happy to burn it daily on that if you want me. - I think that's, yeah. It's either that or roll an arcana, so. - Well, I can do both. I can do an intimidation check and do an arcana check. - Well, the intimidation check, okay, here's the thing. I wanna know how well this spell gets poured off. If you're willing to burn it daily, then that's fine. We'll just do that. - Okay. - Okay. Now let's see how intimidating it is to everyone in the, and you know what? Because you're burning it daily, I'm gonna give you a plus three to that. - Ooh, I thought I was gonna say plus two.
He said plus three. - Can we assist so we all look intimidating? Like you don't wanna fuck with any of us? - Yeah, I had an idea while we were still in the huddle up position. What if we said that, I'm in characters. What if we said that I am the king of Onakal and I'm coming back to my kingdom after hearing what happened and we are not to be trifled with? - Actor Onus, you already got a squire, man. Do you really need all of us to do service? - Listen. (group laughing) - Listen, I didn't get the orb, so I just went up. Can I just be king? Just. - They can't touch a king, the king of Onakal.
Everybody knows that if they do that, they are gonna be sent to whatever's left of the arena. - I guess, well, sorry, go ahead. Go ahead, I love. - I was just gonna say, I grew up in Brightport. Some of these men might recognize me and might disbelieve that I'm now in service to a king of Onakal. - You are my personal guard. - I'm not serving. - I too have spent many days in Brightport. - Well, it was just a thought. (group laughing) - See, Actor Onus throwing up his hands like, "Fine, fuck it." (group laughing) - But it doesn't mean it won't work. - Yeah.
- Aghad, weren't you head of a house at one point? Would that still pull cloud? - It wasn't for very long and I'm not sure. To be honest, I never got down to the port when we held the house. - Well, I can see why. - Yeah, I'll go ahead and try you. - But if I can herald you in, your highness. - Call them my friend, I knew you had my back. - Something tells me these guys don't care about prison. Raylan's gonna say that in character. - All right, let's call it a plan C. If it comes to that, I'll be king. - And now thinking of it, if any of these men do recognize me, my name might not garner me any, let me say, affection.
But both of my brothers are not very well liked in the city. - Shouldn't you use that name then? - Yeah, that's a good point. - But your mother must be well respected. - Of course. - Yeah, maybe we'll go with that instead. - All right, so part one of the plan, Ian puts on the fucking Disney electric light show parade as we come in. And then if that doesn't work, I throw my steps off the boat and it starts making royal decrees. And if that doesn't work, everything will fire. - Yeah, yeah, worst case scenario. But what if I'm just the onical ambassador? That's much better.
- There we go. - Yeah, all right, all right. - Bringing you to meet House Dragon's king. - Yeah, yeah, and plus two, everyone has plus two diplomacy, don't forget that. So we're a little bit okay. - Okay. - Maybe we should have bluff, I don't know. - Wait, I already said. - Yeah, sorry. - It sounds like you guys got five plans. Let's take it one step at a time. - The huddle, great, out of the huddle. - Ian. - Yes. - You're the one who spoke up first. Do me a favor, roll an intimidate check with a plus three. And let's just have this be on Ian because Kaladin's the one casting the spell.
And like I picture kind of almost Titanic style, just like arms spread at the front of the ship. And this is a display, like these icy pylons jut up from the sea itself and guide the ship, like that's a pretty impressive display. - Oh yes. So Kaladin's gonna do that, here we go. - Ooh. - Okay. - Nice work. - And he is going to shout as they're coming in, presenting the daughter of House Dragonkeep and shoot up these ice things. - That's what we went with, that one? (all laughing) - I'm work shopping it. - We wouldn't have to lie too much with that one. - That's true, that's true, you're right.
- That's our diplomacy. - Sorry, you're right Ian, you're the man. - Well you definitely, yeah, you definitely got some attention here. If you didn't have it before from some of the people here at the docks, you definitely have it now. Now, Brightport has the largest, the largest section of docked ships in any city in the mainland here. That is just, it's huge, these ships go on forever. What I would like you to do is everyone do me a favor and roll a perception to gauge what the general consensus is from the crowd. - Yeah. - Oh sorry, Acteronus. - I'm concentrating on magic.
- That's fine. - I am super aware of everything. - Why do you hurt? (laughing) - Well, okay, everyone, Acteronus is a little distracted, let's say. - Yeah, yes. - Everyone else is going to notice that most people have stopped dead. This is a display that usually what people do is they kind of like keep their hands down, they dock, they tie off the ship, they, you know, people stay behind, whatever, but they don't do what you did. So not only do you look like the smallest collection of the prettiest people in Tharia, piloting the most elegant swan-like ship, but you guys just conjured fucking ice from the sea and shouted about.
- You're goddamn right. (laughing) - It's their regular Monday. - So, these people are definitely paying attention. There's their ships, there's going to be a ship on either side of the Yalayanda, right? These are larger ships, but you can see the crew sort of on either side, like look at you guys like, the fuck, first of all, seeing if the ice has damaged their ship in any way, and it hasn't, like it's not even close, but they didn't know that you were doing it to guide the ship, it was more of like a display of power, they thought. So it's like, oh shit, are they just sinking ships?
Are they just being assholes? What's going on? And they seem to be more, they seem even more concerned with their product that they're carrying, their cargo. - I want that to come off a little bit, that we could destroy their ships if we wanted to. - Right, no, it's definitely still a display of power. - Super intimidating. - Oh yes. - It was super effective. Now, Erolove and Kalda, no, Erolove. Erolove is gonna notice, there's a group of individuals that stand out a little more than the rabid packs of thugs. And there are some, there are some, there's some individuals toward the back that look a little more clean cut, right?
They look a little more, a little more put together. And they wear these cloaks that are mostly black, but they have these large orange and red stripes. And you're gonna see one of them lean down and whisper to the other. And there's a pack of three of them. And they're going to very swiftly turn and start to walk away from this entire spectacle. Two of them are going to leave, one of them is going to stay, but it very much looks like one of them could be calling the shots and the other two are runners of some sort. Like they're not flunkies, but definitely not as important as the first guy.
- Only Erolove sees this? - Erolove's gonna notice that among all the clamor and, you know, and then there are, from the docks in front of the ship, there are gonna be, you're gonna hear a smattering of like whistles and things like, Ooh, wow, that's fucked up. And maybe one or two cat calls. The cat calls may be directed at Erolove. - Uh oh. - Maybe. - I want to light up a fire. - Yeah, turn off some fire. Burn the docks, Erolove. - I want to do lightning next. - Now that doesn't mean, that doesn't mean that they're gonna do anything about it. It's more just, it was like, let me call attention to the one woman on our ship.
And the docks go, hey. - Just blatant sexism. - I do. It's not a very progressive city. - No, it is. - As soon as I step off, I really want to just like do infernal wrath and keep the flames on me. - Kill a man. - See, that's something, that's interesting. Okay, so, Braelyn and Acheronas are staying behind Dagon, Kaladin and Erolove are disembarking, correct? - Yes. - Okay. So as you leave the ship, is that something that you're, is the kind of like display of power thing gonna be something that you're going to keep going or? - Does the crowd look quelled besides those three people?
- They look a little less hungry this time. It's like, wait, hold on a second. And then like, you see those wheels turning again? Because they put the piece together, it's like, okay, there might be something really valuable on that ship. The ship itself looks kind of valuable. Man, they're wearing nice armor. They are pretty, aren't they? And then you start going, it's like, how did they stay pretty? Maybe they're tougher than we thought they were. And then like the ice thing is where they start thinking, that kind of thing. Now, how you choose to carry yourself beyond that is that that might continue that trend.
- Ever since we got the armor, I just wanted to light myself on fire. So I may be a little biased. Should I do it, guys? - Put some fire on your shoulders or something. - Wait, wait, wait. - Someone pisses you off. Like someone comes up and tries to start something. It's like, then use the fire. - Maybe just like bring your shoulders back for now. - Yeah. - Stand straight. Before we forget, just question for Aralove. Does she recognize the like orange and red stripes on the armors as something she would know? - Not gonna be familiar to Aralove. - And I would have told everyone on the boat.
- Yeah. - Okay. - So would any of us know what that might be? - Let's see. - Any of us who have been to Brightport? - Oh yeah, I live here. - When's the last time Brelyne was here? - Oh my God. - Okay, no. - A long time. Whenever my backstory, whenever I sent you. - Yeah, that's been a while. That's what I was thinking. It's like, unless I don't know about something, Dagon probably wouldn't really have his finger on the pulse of Brightport for the most part. Actoronus wouldn't know. - Aralove, this is more of a recent-ish thing, so I'm gonna say no. - Yeah, Aralove hasn't been here for what, 10 years?
- Hmm. Yeah, it's been a while. Like you visited, but like you don't live here. - Yeah. - You know. - Okay, is there anyone around us that looks like they're terrified? - Oh, there's a few, there's quite a few people on the docks who all of a sudden started minding their own business and kind of put their head down and just like, ooh, I'm getting back to whittling or something. Like just like, it's like, fuck that. I'm not, no. - Do you think I was gonna pump someone for information? Is that what you're gonna do? - Yeah. - You're gonna Batman somebody? - Oh my God.
- Did Aralove tell us about, what was it, orange and what? - Like orange and red on like, like orange and red stripes on a black. - Orange and red stripes. Did she tell us about this? - Yes. Yes, I did. - Man, I don't have good intimidation. - I should have picked intimidated. I'm sorry, guys. I knew I was debating if I was like, damn, should I give him the phone? - Okay, I just want to intimidate you. I'm gonna go up to the first person who seems to be ignoring us and, excuse me, sir. - He's going to, he's going to very aggressively start to like get up and like stack these sacks that are, they're already well stacked, but he's starting to make a new pile just to give himself busy work.
I don't want any trouble. I don't want any trouble. - Please, I bring no trouble. I have a question for you. Is that all right? - You said you wanted to intimidate. - No, I said I wasn't going to. - Oh, okay. - 'Cause I don't have good intimidation. - He'll slow down just for a second. He's looking over the party again. If it's quick, sure. - Thank you. - The man in orange and red. Do you know who they are? - Do me a favor, roll perception really quickly. 24, you'd pick it up. His eyes are going to go wide. Like just to, just like the instant you're questioning about them.
I don't want to get in the middle of this. I don't want to get involved. I just, look, I'm just going to stack my sacks and I'm going to get paid. And I don't want to touch you or your ship or those, just please. - Dagon will reach into his pocket and pull out like, I don't know, what's five gold? Would that make someone talk? - Good. - I'll put it in his hand. Are you sure there's nothing you can tell me? - Quick question. How stealthily would you place that in his hand? - I suppose I'll have to roll a stealth. I mean, I would have just, it would have been between me and him.
Like, I don't think I would be like, kind of turn and show everyone. - Right, I mean, okay. Well, roll a stealth check. Let's see. So it's going to be like, it's going to be like, like kind of that, not quite that smooth. Like, Ooh, let me, let me shake your hand. Ooh, there's a 20. Like that, not quite that smooth, but like, - Drop one of them. - It's not quite like, (mumbles) Like it's not, it's not that. So kind of an in-between. So there's probably a few people who saw that, but he's going to, he's going to take the gold. Cause of course he's going to take the fucking gold.
And he's going to, he's going to lean in and whisper. Those are the hands, men. You're involved with them or they have an interest in you. Just please don't, don't get me anywhere near that. - Who are the hand? Why, why are you so scared? - Um, he's okay. - Or is it the hand? - The hand. For a second, he's going to, he's going to snap out of his fearful state and just kind of stare at you like, are you shitting me? And he's gonna, he's going to say, you know what the black hand is? - They're going to look at him like very seriously, like not amused. (laughs) No, I don't know who the black hand is.
That's why I'm asking you to tell me. - He controls everything in Brightport, especially the docks. And I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have any qualms about killing you or me or anyone if, again, if you have business with him for some reason, just, I can't believe, hold on. I can't believe you have no idea who that is. Why are you here? - Clearly you don't know who I am. - No. - The King of Otakon. - Force punch, dead. (laughs) - Remember now. - I don't know how much I want to tell this guy. - Is it, so, is it just kind of like showing up, like, hey, I'm important too.
- Yeah, it was somebody here once. - Let's just say, I know he doesn't control the whole city. - All right. You seem really confident and all that, that's great. I'm not, so, unless you need something else. - Is there anything else you can tell me about him? How many people operate under the Black Hand? - No one knows. I've never met him. I don't know anything about him. I don't, I don't actually know anyone who's ever met him. The rumor is if you meet him, you end up dying eventually anyway. So that's just as well. - Do you know why he would take interest in a ship or a crew such as us?
- Are you shitting me? Have you seen yourselves? And he's gonna, like, he realized he raised his voice in the first place and people are probably paying attention and he kind of lowers it to kind of a loud whisper. You don't fit in here. - Well. - I don't know what you're carrying, but you could have literally stopped anywhere else. - We may be a little over decorated, but we're just a ship and a few crew. I mean, no, I get your point. - It looks like you shit gold. - Okay. Thank you for your time. I hope we haven't got you in any trouble here. He'll hand him a couple more gold.
And where is everyone? - Are you talking about Air Love and? - Yeah. - Okay. I would imagine they're near you. I doubt you guys split up. - Unless I'm. - Yeah, sure, yeah. - I just went in a random direction in the crowd, just by myself. - I'm gonna follow those cat calls and see where that looks. - I'm gonna get her some. - He'll turn back to called an Air Love. Well, obviously we've attracted some unwanted attention. I'm a little worried about leaving Actoronus and Braelon on the ship. - We could find someone here, maybe a port master and hire someone to watch the ship.
- Or maybe we could find someone to send a message to my mother and she could have someone meet us here. - That's a good idea. The problem is I don't really trust anybody here. I do trust everyone that tells Dragon Keep. And I know David would set something up for us. It's just that time between here and there. - Are there any House Dragon Keeps boats? - See, that's a question. That's a good question. - Yes, it is. - I was waiting. - You a leader? - Nope, nope, nope, nope. - I can't get rid of it that easily, James, sorry. - One eight, 2016, you omitted it. It's in my notes.
- Pretty much have to die for some mistake. - Yep, we're operating on Starship Trooper rules. - Thank you, Jason. Oh my God. - You're welcome. Okay, I would like, because Air Love thought of it, because Air Love would know, well, I don't know about the new logo, but well, do me a favor, roll a perception check to look specifically for that. - Okay, this is probably gonna be my one low perception. Yep. - Still though, plus 18. - Plus 18 doesn't mean low ever again. - No, you can never be like truly low. Well, here's the thing, Air Love in the distance, and this is quite a ways down, probably about 10 or 12 ships down, is going to spot a ship, and printed high above the sail, there's a flag flying.
And what it looks like is the crest for House Dragonkeep, which is pretty fucking noticeable, because it's a big goddamn dragon. Now, it would stand to reason that, obviously the Houses of Brightport have cargo ships. They have ships that are just theirs, and obviously they're gonna have protection, because no one's gonna fuck with one of the Houses of Brightport ships. Not if they're smart, anyway. - So should we walk down there, or move our ship next to that ship? (all laughing) - We did just this big show, and then it's like, - Wrong spot. (all laughing) - Ah, we'll be fine, actor Ona-san, I'll be fine.
If something attacks us, we have at least three rounds before we die, for sure. - Yeah, you guys are our two healers. - No, let's walk down there. Let's walk down there, talk to who runs the ships, and I mean, how far is it? It's not like super far, right? - It's about 10, 12 ships away, and there's spaces between these ships, so it's, I mean, if you had to put a distance on it, probably like eight to 900 yards, somewhere in there. - And there's a booming crit one, too. - Yeah. - Does it look like there's a section where those ships are, like? - Yeah, they're bunched together.
- Okay, okay, okay. Maybe we should move the ship. (all laughing) - Would the Alleluanda still be in eyesight if we walked to these ships? - You'd be able to see like the mast and stuff, like you wouldn't be able to see, like, so we'd see it light on fire. Okay. (all laughing) - You guys are so suspicious. - We're gonna take care of it. - Let's move the ship. - Or we could, you know what, we could go down there and ask someone to move the ship for us. Oh, but they probably can't. - Hey, Con's the only one who can drag it. - Yeah. - Oh, you can drive it, too, but I don't trust you.
- Wow! (laughing) - No, Cal doesn't ever, do you never steer a ship? - I've never been on a boat, yeah, this is my first time on a boat. - I never steered it until the first time. (laughing) - You're the leader. - Of course I drove it into icebergs. - You know what, maybe we should reevaluate. - She couldn't do worse, yeah. - Steer man control. - I'm sure there's at least one other elf sailor in the world. - Yeah, I think we'll be fine. I don't think, you don't have to move the boat, I think we'll be okay. - Yeah. - Just go and let's roll with the fungus. - I'm pretty sure, yeah.
- Yeah, let's fucking-- - We should just go over there and get some-- - Let's fucking rage, Hectoronis. - We did, we did want a more exciting show. (laughing) - Remember what happened last time. - Okay, it was great. - Those were our exact words last time, let's make it more exciting. - Boom, iceberg. - Yep. (laughing) - So you're gonna start walking and here's the thing. - Yeah, told you. - These people are gonna start parting for you. - As they should. - And I'm not talking about like, oh, let's give it, like you guys are making your way through a crowd, I'm talking a wide berth, like these people back up a good eight to 10 feet on either side when they see you coming.
And that's peculiar given that these people don't look the mannerly type and they don't, they don't look like they're not interested in you, like they're backing away like you have the plague. And that's gonna continue for a while, like you guys are gonna, you guys are gonna walk and they're still eyeing you like hungry predators, but they're not advancing and they're not getting near you. Like they're just, they see you coming and they back away. - Is it like they, is it like they are afraid of us or is it like they're like, well, I don't wanna get blood on myself when they eventually get stabbed to death or something?
- Do you have a roll of insight? - Ooh, that's not bad. See, that would be the first, that would kind of be the first assumption you jump to, right, like they're either scared of you or like it's something else. Calvin's picking up that it's probably not either one of those things that maybe they haven't been given in order to do anything yet. - Like the Black Hand claimed us. - Okay. - Are they looking at like anyone in particular or just the three of us? - No. - There's a lot of guys on the-- - I'm gonna light on fire. - There's a lot of lonely guys on this doc.
- They don't really respect. - I really wanna light on fire. - They don't respect the name, dude. - Here's the thing, there could be a couple of things at work here, right? You guys fucking pulled into port and just started screaming that, Erol of Grimnus is in town, daughter of the, like you guys, like you made a spectacle of yourselves in every possible way. - It wasn't self-defense. - Did you say my name? - Like you're doing everything but holding sparklers as you walk down the fucking way here. - Okay, I'm gonna, Colin's gonna lean into this a little bit.
He's gonna notice these things and sort of, under his breath, he's just gonna lean back to dig on Erol and just like, just follow me. And he's just gonna keep walking without looking at any of these people. I mean, keeping an eye out, but just head back, walking, letting people part and walking, making a beeline straight for the Dragon Keep facility, whatever it is, near wherever the ships are. - Erol is gonna pull on her military training and have like that really rigid stance walk, like official walk, you know? - And here's the thing, as you're walking, they are gonna keep distance, but there's gonna be a couple of people every once in a while like every like 20, 30 yards, something like that, you're gonna hear like the typical cat calls from some, some of these things are not so nice, let's say.
I wouldn't repeat them 'cause we're in polite company and that's just rude. The nicest thing you're gonna hear is like, "Ooh, come over here," that kind of thing, like, "Ooh, come over here," that thing. Some of them are shouting the day gone 'cause I, look, to these guys, day gone's very pretty. They haven't seen an Aladrin in a very, I'm just saying, a few of them. - It's a long time, let's see out there. - I'm just saying, very smooth skin, nice long hair. - Are we sure Yulin's not in the crowd? (all laughing) - But yeah, that's gonna continue the entire time.
You're gonna hear that every once in a while, just very, very seedy sounding, like, "Ooh, come here." Like that type, it's like, ugh, just kind of like, ugh. - You want me to light a fire. - Ah, hey, I am not pushing for anything. I'm just telling you what the situation is. - For the sake of not starting anything, day gone's just gonna pull his hood up over his head and keep his head down and keep walking. - Okay. - Yeah, unless something stops us, Cauldron's just gonna go to an official-looking person in the house dragon keep area. - So that's, okay, getting to the other side here.
Okay, getting to the other side, it's gonna be a while. Like it's gonna take, it's gonna take some time. But eventually you're gonna reach, you're gonna reach the other end of the dock and there's gonna be a few ships, right? The largest one has the most people standing in front of it, but these are all pretty well guarded. And what it looks like is some hammer hand folks. And there is, there seems to be a human floating around that isn't very well armored or anything like that, but clearly with the rest of these people. And they're gonna be staring at you the entire time.
Like you guys are walking down the way here and they're just like, what are you even thinking? But I'm guessing Caledon's gonna be the one that will make the open air here, you said? - Are they, yeah, sure, yeah. Are they with Dragonkeep? Are we in like the Dragonkeep area or? - Yeah, this is Dragonkeep area, but it does look like there's some hammer hand folks hanging out. - Oh, okay. - It's like Dragonkeep has hired hammer hand to-- - Yeah, maybe. - For their security. - Okay. - Maybe. - Yeah, so he'll go up to this person and give a little bow and say, are you the port master for House Dragonkeep?
- And he's going to look back at everyone. I don't know about port master, but I'm in charge. I'm a rude and he's gonna hold out his hand. - And Caledon will take it and give him as firm a shake as he can muster and say, we are affiliated with House Dragonkeep and we're looking to hire someone to look after our ship while we have business at the manor. Is that something that you can do? Can we hire you and your men here? - We're already spread a little bit thin, but for the right price, yeah, I think we could do something like that. - We seem to have garnered some attention coming in.
- You don't say. - You may have noticed, yes. But with a little extra gold, maybe you'll stay on your toes and make sure that our ship is not molested. - All right, how many people in your crew? - There's five of us. - For that entire ship? And he's going to, he's like, there's gonna be a look in his face like, you're fucking with me. Like, like eventually, like it's like, okay. - It's a small crew and the ship isn't complicated to run. - I could put some people on it. I'm just gonna warn you, they're typical Skullcracker people. They're not really gonna differentiate and try and diplomasize.
Things could get messy. - The more intimidating, the better. As long as the ship remains undamaged, you, my friend, will be paid in full. - How in full? - What's your rate? - Well, usually there's something to guard. There's a cruise, some possessions, something like that. Just seems like you have a big empty ship, but I'm guessing that there's more to it than that. Three grand. - What? (laughing) - What's the rate here? - Colin's got good diplomacy. Let's get that down. - But what is he gonna say? That's a thing. I can roll for what I want. - Yeah, maybe bring up that Air Love is the daughter of the owner who's hiring them.
- Good call, good call. - Again, I was waiting for someone to bring up. - I wasn't sure 'cause I didn't, she was already getting a lot of attention. - You didn't want to name drop. - Exactly, yeah. - Gotcha, you didn't want to be that guy. - But since we're with some rough customers that can maybe help us, maybe. So yeah, so Cauldin will say, maybe you can find a more agreeable price for the daughter of House Dragonkeep. And he's going to sort of like nod over his shoulder to Air Love and say, a favor with the house is worth more than gold. And I can roll diplomacy if you need me to.
- Go ahead and roll diplomacy. - Okay, I've got a plus two. I've got a plus two. - Yeah. - Well, you got more than that. I'm going to give you another plus three just because of what you're saying and the proof you have to back that up. - Okay, hopefully this will make up for the one. Let's go. (laughing) - Oh dear. - No, it's a one. - It's not, on skills it's not a crit fail. - No, no, no, no. We don't do that for skills. That's just mean. - I do that in my games, so don't ever play with me guys. - You have not allowed me to roll anymore. - I'm called in steps back and back and back away into the sea.
(laughing) - All right, so we look at the end number, not the roll. This, Rude's going to snap too. And he's going to look over your aerial of grimness. - That's correct. - He's going to back away two steps slowly. And then he's going to snap and start shouting at his people to get a number of them hustled down to the other end of the dock immediately and guard that ship. And they're going to snap too and they're going to start jogging. There is some hustle all of the sudden. And he's going to look back to Kaladin. Of course, payment is unnecessary at this point.
- Many, many thanks. Is there more, you have seen that, sorry. Is there more to this extension of your health than I can perceive? - He's going to give this deep bow and kind of tuck one hand towards the stomach as he's, like a big grand gesture. We're just happy to be of service. - Can I roll an insight to see if he's sincere? - Sure. - 'Cause I don't want this to fuck us. - Holy crap. - That is more than sincere. Like there isn't an ounce of snark or cruel intentions or anything like this. This person seems to be very on the level. - Okay. - Which could mean a few different things.
- Ask about what's been going on. We've been away for a while. - Like, are you saying this in character or? - No, no, no, sorry. Susan, you should ask about what's going on. - Like with Erlo's mom or? - The hand, this thing? - Oh yeah. It seems that we garnered the attention of a local group called the Black Hand when we docked. I'm positive that will become an issue. What is, who are the Black Hand? In what sway do they hold in the city? - Well, the Black Hand's not a group. It's a person here, as we can tell. What you saw were his eyes. And if you were of any interest to him, I would do my best to watch my back. 'Cause that rarely ends well here.
Don't really know much about him. Started seeing those people in cloaks a few months ago and slowly but surely word spread. They hire thugs to get things done for them or pit groups against each other. If it's bloody and awful, they probably have a hand in it. - Hmm. We'll be sure to watch our backs then. If she'll look to Tagon and Cauldron, should we ask for any, I don't know, not necessarily guides to the house, but people to walk with us? - Yes, yes. Perhaps one of your men can escort us to House Dragonkeep. We won't need many. - I could send a couple.
I'm gonna be blunt with you people. If he wants you dead, you're dead. There's very little two guards are gonna do. We're stretched thin here, but did you see the way people were fanning back to give you space while you walked down the dock? - I did notice that, yes. - They're probably waiting to see what he would wanna do with you. Or even if he knows about you, he may not have any interest at all, but that's how scared people are here now. They don't make a move if they think it'll interfere with something he wants. - Ah, I see. They were staying out of his way, not staying out of ours.
- Probably, yeah. - Well, we've done nothing that I can think of to offend him other than arriving in some style to the city of Brightport. He's gonna roll his eyes like it's a way of putting it, yeah. (laughing) If I may, and he's gonna kind of raise his hand. You already announced who you are, and more importantly, no offense, ma'am, who your mother is. That'll probably buy you safe passage. There's very few people in the city who would risk running afoul of the Grimnesses. - Times have changed. Is the Black Hand an enemy of House Dragon's Keep? Would I, could I possibly be used as leverage against them, against my mother, should he attack me or?
- I wouldn't, I wouldn't count that out. I mean, it's, I guess you would be valuable as a bargaining chip. I never really thought of that. - Oh, good. - Maybe I shouldn't have brought it up. - And here's where you can stab the knife. - That's him saying that, not me, by the way. My armor's weak right here. (laughing) - Look, I can get two of my best people to go with you, and it's probably a 10-minute walk to House Dragon Keep, so it should be fine, but just watch yourselves, okay? - We will, and thank you for your assistance. - Of course, and if you would be so kind, tell your mother I said hi.
- Of course. - And he's gonna give another deep bow. - I guess Air Love will bow back. - I call and I'll bow back. - It'll be all weird though, she's not used to it. (laughing) - Does Dagon bow? - Dagon will not bow. - Okay, Dagon bows for Noah. - Hell yeah. - He's still kinda hidden under his hood. He's just gonna, he wants to get actor on us and Braelon, so he's just gonna say we should go. - Are you regrouping at the ship to get the rest of your party now? - Well, if we see all the armed men coming to the ship and see you further down the port, we probably can just go and meet you.
- Okay. Okay. - This guy's going Braelon. - I don't know, should I roll a check on my mustache? - I think we should roll a stealth check to see how well this disguise came together. - Fuck yeah, let's do this. - Who got please? - Oh, so good. - Oh, that's a pretty keen disguise, sir. - Thanks for the loose hair, Zach the Ruin. - What name are you going by while you're in Brightport? - Rodrigo. (laughing) - He's a guy who can get you things. - Yeah, write that down before we get robbed. (laughing) - I'm gonna have to remember it too. - Please. - Braelon equals Rodrigo.
- Oh yeah. - I just remembered that before we went to go fight, what's his name, the big bad vampire, I sent my momma letters saying I might die. - Oh yeah, you did. - Well, won't she be glad to see you. - And then two weeks went by with no word. - Probably already knows you're here. - Yeah, I probably put in the letter, I possibly could die, if not, you will see me soon. - Yeah, and then again, two weeks went by, so it's kind of a nail biting. - Yep. Hopefully it took like a week to get here. - Yeah, well, I mean, like you sent that before the time jump.
So some time went by. - Hopefully got lost on the road. - But guys, I think that's a pretty good time for us to stop for the night. - Damn. - Okay. - And what we're gonna do next time is we're gonna get into, boy, we're gonna get into some stuff 'cause. - That crit won. - That crit won, here's the thing. - Oh boy. - I just, don't remind him. - No. - Don't remind him. - Do you think I forget a crit won? - I mean, we got a crit 20. - Don't mind the bull. - Here's what's gonna happen. I promise you, whatever is going to happen with that crit won is gonna happen while you're in Brightport.
- I'd rather have fought three pirate. - Yeah, me too. - You'll know when it happens, but there is a complication. - Oh boy. - Don't hurt a hair on Tessia's head. - You'll know when it happens. - Oh my God. - Okay guys, if Rodrigo dies, Braylon's really still alive. - This is good, man. I, oh, it's nice to get back in the saddle, man. It's nice. - Yeah, that was really fun. - Yeah, it's like all new things for us too. Like the Brightport adventure, like only Dagon has lived it then. - So many things you can do. - I didn't really live it though. - Oh, a little bit.
- Side house dragon. - Yeah, so no, it's really cool. - You got like, for playing in the landmark of the setting. - Yeah. - In the universe. - It's kind of cool to see Brightport from like a different angle too. Like everybody usually just comes in, goes to an inn and goes to house dragon's keep. - Yeah, this, you guys are actually seeing the city, you know, I mean like if you go to Times Square in New York, you haven't really seen New York. You guys are seeing the not so touristy areas. (laughing) - So. - It was really vivid. That was a, it was a vivid experience.
- Yeah. - Or you know. - That's cool. - I'm glad, it was really cool. - So James, when do you have a baby? - When do I have a baby? - Yeah, when is the baby? (laughing) - We'll never. - When do I have a baby? - Same here, let me explain something to you. (laughing) - When a man and a woman. - It feels right. - When will you conjure a child? (laughing) - I will start the ritual tomorrow. (laughing) - She's due on the 24th. - Oh wow. - But could be any day, right? - So should we plan the next session within two weeks? - Jesus Christ. - Also congratulations. (laughing) - Thanks.
- I can't do weekdays anymore because my work sucks and I stay there till like 7.30. Yeah, so I can only do weekends. - That's cool. - That is a bummer. Like, you know, we could schedule for like the 20th and see what happens, right? I mean. - Well that seems like cutting it close though. I don't wanna put that kind of pressure on you. - Maybe tentatively, you know, like it's. - Well, tentatively, yeah, exactly. The baby becomes. - Let's see, when is that? - Alex, can you do Fridays? - No, no. - Oh, okay. - Saturday and Sunday usually. - Yeah, 21st. - Hi everybody out there.
