I'm Jason of the Dungeon Master going around the table starting with Tyson. Hey, I'm Tyson. I play Greta the Gnome Warlock and yeah, cool. Uh, Danielle. Hi, I'm Danielle. I play Trixie the Rogue Drow. And Brian. Hey gang. I'm Brian and I play the Mulrune Priest named Riekus. And James. Hey, it's James. I play Dagon the Eladrin Scion. And Alana. Hey guys, I play an elf named Branath. Okay, quick recap. For those of you at home who may have forgotten what happened in Group 2 in the last episode. They invaded the city of Onakol, filled to the brim with ghouls. And they decided to do so by ice bombing it with their dragon to start things.

And then kind of joining the other two houses at the front gates and charging on in. Now you've pretty much cut a path back to where you were held captive. And you are... the goal is to make your way to the arena and clean out the bulk of what would be remaining there. And kind of lock down the center of the city. And then just kind of back clean up after that. You ended up going into a room that you've never been in, actually. By kind of bashing down the door and killing a few more ghouls in there. And you found another one of those gates. Dagon is the only one who recognized what it would be.

Or what it would be used for. But yeah, that's only the second one to be found in Theria so far. I mean, by any PCs. You are still in that room. So I don't know what you guys would like to do as of now, but I'll leave it to you. So did we discuss kind of searching this room for... wasn't there like a desk with some items? Yeah. There was a desk with a stack of books. You're guessing... I mean, as of now, it's pretty much sitting right next to this gate. So it's probably reference material and findings, notes, things like that. Yeah, I would like to collect as much as we can of that.

Has Dagon revealed to us what this thing is and sort of his take on what we just found? Yeah, I mean, I think I kind of shared it. Well, didn't myself share it with you last time. But Jason went through everything and I was just like, I tell them that. And it's done. What he said. And the gate's powered up and yeah. So do we want to explore this or do we want to go deal with more ghouls and come back to this? I think it would probably be best if we tried to deal with the ghouls right now, just while we have the blood flowing through our veins. Like, it's not safe to let our guard down right now and Valus is hurt.

So we got to make this quick. Yeah, totally forgot to mention that. Valus was bitten. He did take a... he kind of jumped in the way of Baranath and kind of took a zombie bite. So to remind you guys, you have three treatments of this cure and you have no idea how House Hammerhand or Silverclaw are doing. But within your own party, one of you has been bitten. So that's just to let you know. So you are going to kind of put a pin in this and leave the room, go back to the hallway? I want to take any... if there's papers and notebooks or whatever, I want to take all that with me.

I don't want to leave it here. Okay. Okay. Totally cool. So you're just going to take that and put it in your pack? Yeah. Okay. That's a good idea. I just... anything can happen between now and when, you know, we clear out this place, if we ever clear out this place. And if this is what Dagon says it is, then I want to keep this close to our chest and not to say that we're the right hands, but I wouldn't want this falling into the wrong hands. This is really powerful stuff. Okay. Anything else in the room we can take or was that about it? This seems to be pretty much its only function.

This room has basically that and those papers and some statues and stuff, but no other belongings. Okay. So do we want to go back out to the hallway and then we can kind of discuss where we're going to go from here? Is there any chance we can rest in here? Well, you did bash the door down, so there'd be nothing between you and whatever might come through the hallway just to let you know. Yeah, we're not protected here. Okay. And Alana, you might want to get rid of your temp hit points there too. I got it. Why would I want to do that? Done and done. I'm thinking logically for when we go out to the arena.

Do we still have a bomb? Yes. So my idea is two parts. We get Amara, we get back on top of Amara, we fly over the arena, because it doesn't have a roof or anything. I imagine it's open. We can take a look at what sort of a little landscape of what we'll be dealing with down there, but we could also end up utilizing some of her ice breath but also dropping a bomb because it's going to probably be a little bit safer to drop it from above than it would be from us standing. Unless that's a specific like we have to do that in combat and we can't just like freehand it.

Well, okay. How are you proposing to do this? Go into the arena and then call her or go back the way you came? Because if you go back the way you came, you will most likely be fighting zombies again to get back outside so that you can call her. Oh, damn. Okay. Because it's still very much a city infested with ghouls. You're carving a path to where you need to go, but it's not like you've killed everything. We'll have to just call her in then. You know what? I think like we've handled this pretty well so far for the most part. Why don't we head back to the arena and we're going to like fight our weight the best we can just to clear that out.

If we're getting overwhelmed or if we've bitten off more than we can shoot, sorry, pardon the pun. I'll call her. I'll call her back. Hey, I have a question. Yes. So in every arena, they fight down in the arena and then there are seats that everyone sits in far above where they fight. Is there a way for us to get to those seats and call Amara from there? Because from what I remember, you said that they just kind of fell out into the arena from where they were sitting. There might be far less in the seats from what's on the ground and we can call her. She can land on the seats per se, but I mean, it'll be a lot easier to get there than it would to be getting into the arena and then trying to call a dragon amidst all these people that fell into the arena.

Well, from where you are now, either you're going to head into the arena and then climb up into the stands, which you can totally do, or you can leave, go back the way you came and go in the entrance to where like pedestrians would go like spectators. How would we climb? Well, you have rope and you have, you know, I mean, yeah. Can I make a suggestion? I have shade twin, which is a daily where I can assume it's a burst hand and I can adopt a target creature's appearance. And why don't we go to the door that we unlocked to get into the arena, you know, stealth it open, open it slowly.

I can make myself appear like a zombie and just sort of walk a couple of steps into the arena just to see how many of them are in there. And if there's like fucking five thousand, ten thousand of them in there, then Baraneth blows the horn of summoning and, you know, in comes Amara to basically clear a path for us so we can then just take out the stragglers. Yeah, I like that. I like I just I just want to try to cheat a little bit, but just try to get a glimpse of what we're going to be dealing with. So we kind of know instead of us running in with one plan of being like, OK, about face, we're trying something else now.

Well, and also to the the bomb thing is a bit of a risk, like if we had to get on top of Amara, first of all, we still have to call her anyways, you could drop the bomb in a totally wrong place and blow a hole through the arena and let more of them out and like, you know, or you could totally, you know, fuck up your throw and like drop the bomb down down at your feet or, you know, blow off one like blow up Amara or something. So like there would be some type of a role we'd have to do for that, whereas Amara is probably a bit more of a surgical strike. That sounds good.

Yeah. OK, well, I like your I like your shade to an idea. Should we head back in that direction then? Yeah. All right. That's good. That works. Let's do it. I'm going to I'm going to stay next to Alice and help him along. Yeah, Alice is going to advance to stage one. He is going to get a negative to his attack rolls. And yeah, that's that's it. It starts off kind of slow, if you remember, and then ramps up and it won't be too long before he's either completely incapacitated or almost useless in combat. So I'm just I'm I'm going to stop him and I'm going to to just assess his wounds again.

Like doing each roll perception, like where where is he hurt? Well, he's obviously like he was bitten in the arm. So this is yeah, you you you'd heal that before. So it's not it's not bleeding or anything, but it's you can kind of see where there's this kind of black veiny, like like like it's infected already. Like you can kind of see where it's starting to spread where the normal red tint of his arm is kind of like like almost where you could see something coursing through his veins almost. Just in just in that impact crater that right there. You can kind of see where he's starting to be like like a little fevered.

I'm going to put my hand on on his forehead and just kind of kind of look at him and and feel his fever. And I'm very close to him and very quietly I'm going to say I can fix this. I will. I will fix this. I guess we have to go. He's trying to like he's just kind of rushing you along. I'll be fine. Just we need to hurry. I'm going to put on a brave face and follow, but I'm completely terrified. Moving back down the hallway, you move past the little interrogation room where Theramag pulled some of you aside and talked to you, and then you move past your old prisoner's quarter digs.

And I would imagine just going past it like this. This brings back a lot of memories and I'm going to shutter as I walk by. It was not long ago, actually, it was a little over a week ago that you guys were were prisoners here. Yep. I'm feeling a phantom pain in my leg. Oh, that's right. Oh. There's if you remember, there's a little cubbyhole room leading into the arena and to get through it, you need to step over the bodies of Katie, Sil, Thalaman and several zombies. I'm not looking. It's yeah, all of their that they are all smelling quite ripe by now. I wonder how many of the zombies actually fell down the holes in the arena?

I don't know if those got closed up. So I'd be kind of cool if some of them were just wandering and fell down into the pits. I mean, the pits would probably be a horrible door to open right now. Well, the door to the pits were bashed open. Oh, right. Yeah. So don't give the DM any more ideas. Well, I was going to say anyway, if they fell down into the pits, wouldn't the fall damage more than likely just crush them into like little heaps of bones? Yeah, that's a big fall. Yeah, which is why they really there was no resistance there. That wasn't. Yeah. Like you you may hear something, but most of the time it'll be broken legs or something.

Crunch. Yeah, something we incapacitate them enough that they're not really a threat to you. Yeah. So does everyone see the arena? Yes. Yes. Here's how we're going to do this. This is a huge thing. Do you want to go ahead and do your shade twin plan and I'll let you know what's going on. You can roll a little perception. Yeah, sure. Now, why don't I do a stealth check to open the door and then I'm going to have to see the see the target, obviously, to turn into it. So we have to see a zombie. I don't know about looking at the corpses of Katie and still if I can turn into a zombie that way.

I think I've probably got to see an actual enemy, right? Probably. Yes. They were zombies, but we've seen lots of zombies so far. That's true. It's it's really not like your sense. Memory should be able to remember what a fucking zombie looks like. Well, I think it's I'm making a twin of something that's out there. So I'm kind of, you know, basically copying something. So let's just do the stealth check to open the door and I'm going to assume that there's a zombie within 10 squares of me. That's probably a given. 27. OK. Wow. OK. Yeah. Open the door really slowly.

OK. And, you know, just peek so that I can only see one zombie and then I'm going to pop off my shade twin to look exactly like that particular zombie. And then I'm going to moan and slowly shuffle out a couple of feet so I can see the entire arena. OK. And then do a perception check, I guess. Do a perception check, please. OK. And 15. OK. 15 perception. So the stands are still kind of scattered like it. It's very it's very random, very happenstance where you'll you'll look into the stands and like they're just kind of spotted all over. It looks to be that anybody who was in the stands has spread out and kind of funneled everywhere into this arena.

So there are there are a fair amount of zombies on the actual floor of the arena. It looks to be in the hundreds, but this is a huge place and it's spread out quite a bit. So the way we would do this is you guys would come into the arena and we're going to simulate them slowly but surely recognizing that there is someone in the arena that they could eat and then slowly close in on you. So there would be round after round. I would add like a couple here, a couple there. And then if you guys feel like you're becoming overwhelmed, then you can kind of hit the panic button or you can do that right away.

It's up to you. The more noise you make about it, though, like, say, calling in a dragon, we're going to we're going to have some fun with that. There's this. We are. You are. It's a team effort, James. We're all going to have some fun. OK. You said hundreds. I did. But again, this is a massive arena. I want to paint this picture for you. Remember, you guys have faced gelatinous cubes here. And I mean, this is not bring up the gelatinous cubes again. OK, sorry. Like this is a massive arena. So this is the the to make things interesting. The holes are still open so things can fall down that.

And I would even imagine, I mean, zombies are fucking dumb. So if they're on the other side of any one of these holes and they start charging towards you, they're just going to fall into these holes. So that's going to take care of a percentage of your work for you. So, yes. Now, that doesn't mean you're going to have to fight hundreds of zombies. I don't want to paint that because, again, you're going to lose some of the holes. They're going to be some that just can't quite get to you or can't quite work out how to maneuver around the arena to get to you.

That kind of thing. Now, you guys. I think we could probably start taking some of the bouts. And then if it looks like it's too much, call Amara. It's going to be well out of character. It's going to be a huge XP bump. But I think kind of what I like to I think it's one half dozen of another. Like it's either way, it's going to be a lot of work. So we are not getting out of this without a fight. And if you've got areas of effect that slow things or, you know, half their speed or mobilize them, you know, pop that stuff off to me, we can kind of, you know, as they advance towards us, start pinning some of them.

Yeah. Two things. Just just to throw this out there. One, you will not get any XP for anything the dragon kills. Yeah, obviously. OK, just throwing out that should be a given. But yeah, just totally. And two, there are zombified gladiators in this in this arena. So they just made me go from very confident to like, yeah, they're not all they're not all spectators, which means that these particular zombies are wearing full suits of armor. Well, gladiatorial type gear. So their AC is going to be a little tougher. And, you know, they're going to have a few more hit points that, you know, that doesn't mean they're going to be impossible.

Just just just it's for it's for flavor. I hate this flavor. Tastes like shit. So zombie Greta will turn back around and come in through the door slowly again and just say, it looks like we're facing several hundred, but they're quite spread out. And, you know, all across the entire arena, I think we could take out pockets of them before we have to call in Amara. Hey, guys, just keep in mind, I do have that cloud of darkness. It's a minor action close burst one that puts a cloud of darkness around me that no one can see through it but me. So anything in it is I mean, I wouldn't say they're immobilized, but they they're they're blind.

Yeah, they're going to be completely blind inside of it. You guys can't you're you're not going to be able to see to shoot in it. But I can kill things in it without, you know, as much risk as before. Well, we could still shoot into it. And I do. Yeah, we take a negative five. So if we get if we tend to get like if we have a whole lot of coming out coming at us at once, I can, you know, shoot that off and hopefully that'll help deter some of it. I've never had a chance to use it. It could actually be the chance to use it. Also, too, I get a I don't grant blind, blind fighting sentinel plus two to perception checks.

You don't grant combat advantage to invisible enemies. I thought I had some work. It's see through that crap, too. And I don't. OK, shut up. I could have sworn I had some where I don't take like what it is. It's the it's I don't take the negative tend to perception checks when I'm blinded is what it is. So we're going to go in. I think the key thing is to keep moving. If you have the chance, unless you're surrounded, constantly keep moving because they'll just swarm you if you stay in the same place the entire time. Yeah. Nobody go too far from the door here.

OK. All right. Are we going in? Because it's going to grab the lullaby out of the back of this little hatch. Oh, and start smacking the end of it against his hand and just say time to put some ghouls to sleep. I'm going to I'm going to pull my bow off my back and have her at the ready. Everyone, play short characters right here by the by the door. And I'm going to go ahead and place a couple of zombies here for you. Tanks in the front. So this is your time to take a break. Yes. Go make a coffee. Have a peek. It's going to be about 10 minutes. The table just breaks.

Like I said, we'll just keep like I want to simulate them closing in around you. So this will be like just wave after wave after wave. This kind of thing. Instead of putting a thousand on the board and then you have to sit and wait. I think this is just this is just one encounter, by the way. This just keeps going. OK, so we have no and you won't tell us like there's no chance that you're going to tell us you can do a perception check in the middle of it. Totally fine. That would be something worth to note, I guess. We just noted. OK, I guess I can initiative.

We don't want to try diplomacy with the zombies. Yeah, you go ahead. Try diplomacy. I'm going to start hitting stuff. We'll say something they want. Your zombies. We come in peace. We just send Izzy and she can talk to them. We come to break you into pieces. She's not dead quite yet. I'm just telling you, I have like no real blast or burst type of thing that I can use continuously. So I'm going to have to run up to these guys. OK, just don't do anything stupid. I'm trying not to. I can't make any promises, though. OK. Dayon, did you roll initiative? Shit, I did not.

We get three ghouls that go in front of us. Well here we go... A lot of ghouls that go in front of us. Oh wow okay. It's like zombie zombie zombie zombie zombie zombie Party party party party zombie zombie zombie zombie party party zombie zombie It sounds like an Andrew WK song. Sorry I'm stopping. Mind you that would be really good theme music for a fight like this. Yeah I was gonna say you should play that in the background. Reekus is gonna reach into his bag and just pull out his iPod and his eye like stereo thing and just pop it in and pop some AC/DC on so we can have some fight music.

I'm gonna do that all like um... Shit what was her name? That Jessica Biel character in Blade Trilogy. Oh yeah yeah yeah. I got my monster fighting music. I actually like Blade Trinity that was cool. Alright. Let me just see what would be best here. Um okay so I'm gonna do a... You know what I might as well pop off. Ah geeze see I want to do Web of Shadows but I'm not sure where the zombies are gonna come from. See if I hit Web of Shadows on Gladiator zombie number four I could also hit seven and nine. However you guys are getting crowded over here but I don't want to immobilize you guys with it.

I'd say try to take out seven four nine if you can or knock them down because with all of us right here we can kinda handle it from one or two directions but three is going to be pushing it. Yeah and they're gonna be coming too. Okay so. I'm gonna go for three six ten with my emote just so you know. Three six ten. Okay. It'll slow them and then it's a burst three on my next turn. So I should be able to hit them still. Okay so I will do my daily Web of Shadows also too we're gonna have to deal with the Rod of Wonder on this one but let's just hope for something good.

Gender change in the middle of this fight. Turning back into a dude yeah. You turn into a giant brain covered in barbecue sauce. Okay so choose targets and then roll each individually so four yeah yeah that is a hit. Shit. That's a big hit. Yep. That is a hit on seven. Nice. Okay. Yeah. That is a hit on nine. Okay and 2d6 plus eight. Oops. I'm doing the damage just down in the regular roller here. 20 damage to all three and creates an AoE as well. That will kill all three. Yes. Okay and that AoE is if anything enters it it's immobilized until the end of its next turn.

Very nice. Now the Rod of Wonder starts shaking again and Greta goes oh no and what happens? So let's roll a d100. Let's roll a d100. Jason's gotta find that list of stuff now. 38. You hear me like shifting around the back of your head. You turn into a giant dildo. You shit your pants and start singing show tunes. About shit. I'm like sifting through tomes like Gandalf. I need to get organized. I'm nothing if not always prepared. Fuck the Rod of Wonder. As it arrives precisely when he means to. Okay. 38. No fucking shit. This is fun. All zombies disappear? No. Three grizzly bears randomly appear and fight alongside the party.

Yes! Holy shit! Okay so does that mean you're controlling them or is Greta controlling them? They are under their own control. They're just allies. For some reason these magic grizzly bears are just up here. Greta now has an army of grizzly bears. I can just imagine him just standing on a pedal with like ropes hanging out from their necks. Hey-achi Mishima. I've got Kuma on my side. Okay give me a second. I'll put in some grizzly bears for you guys. That's motherfucking awesome. Then I roll a 39 and the grizzly bears change gender. Or they side with the zombies.

No no no. If they get bit do they turn into zombie grizzly bears? Anything can be infected. Will they still fight with us if they're zombie grizzly bears? Well you got a while before they change. Now are they here till the end of the encounter? Yes. Hold on a second. This is... Bear. Just bear. It's a bear to find them. I'll just cover my health now. If you can save me the trouble I'd appreciate it. Can you guys see the AOE I made? Yeah. It's very faint but you can. See I told you there's good stuff on that list. That's awesome. Finally. I mean mind you turning into a woman solved all of Galiford's problems and kind of gave him a new lease on life.

And that is it for you? That is it for me. Dagon your turn. I'm going to use the static mote here. So that is... Any creature that starts to turn adjacent to the mote just slowed until the end of its turn. At the start of my next turn the mote disappears and the static mote attack power goes off. So I want to place it right there. Did that work? Yep. By three there? And I guess that's my turn. Uh, what do you think? Like these three right here? There we go. Okay. Chrixie your turn. Alright I'm gonna do a palming strike against number three right here next to me.

Hold on. It's being weird. Okay. It's all good. I missed. Well shit. Anything else you want to do? I want to stand here and just wince a little bit. Rikus your turn. Remember you are grabbed. So I can only really do a melee basic? No no no you can do whatever you just can't move unless you want to shake him or try and shake him off. Um... No I might as well just try and uh take a take a punch at number three who's grabbed me. There we go. That is a hit. And then... You crush the zombie's head in front of you. Awesome. And I'm no longer grabbed. That is correct you are no longer grabbed.

Uh anything else you want to do? Um not right now. Okay. I have a feeling action points are going to be something that I might utilize later on though. Uh zombie gladiator number three is going to maneuver himself into a spot next to Valus. He's slowed by the way. Oh he's slowed. Okay well then he doesn't do that because that would be you'd get about here. There you go. And that would be it so never mind I guess. Uh zombie number 11 gonna move up four spaces and try to grab Trixie. That is a hit. No. It's okay we're about to have teddy bear number two come up.

Uh let's see here yeah grizzly bear number two is going to race up uh and try and swipe at the zombie who uh who grabbed Trixie. So that is a d20 plus 10 17 versus a c that'll miss actually that will miss that's dumb. Jeez that sucks. Uh gladiator number two is going to walk up to Trixie. Uh since she has already grabbed he is going to lean in and try and bite her shoulder. No don't you dare. Oh 22 versus a c that is a miss. Suck it. Berenath. Um okay uh shield of faith everybody plus two uh to ac uh until the end of this encounter. Golly that's beautiful.

Yeah um okay so I'm gonna use sunburst on um damn it zombie number four why can't I click on him? Choose targets I'm trying to choose targets. I'm having a hard time here. I'm sorry. There we go okay there it is okay um so um d20 plus uh 13. No hits. All right so um damage is why am I not getting damage? 12 damage. Dead. Excellent um okay so uh myself and each ally within five squares gained five temp hit points and can make a saving throw so anyone who's grabbed make a saving throw and everyone add five to your hps. Uh okay Valis is no longer grabbed because you killed the zombie that grabbed him.

Yay. Uh he can totally use five additional temp hit points though. Gorgeous love it. Let's do the same um um are you all done? I'm done. Okay Valis's turn. Wait did you say I get to make a saving throw or no? Yes you do actually. Is that a flat d20? Um that is your uh you get a choice one second that is your uh you could use your acrobatics or athletics. Well that that's not really a saving throw is it? No it's just a flat d20 isn't it? Yeah but she's she's she's just grabbed it's not like she's uh stunned or anything like that yeah grabbed is different that's not really a dude use your acrobatics.

Okay uh Valis's turn um Jesus he's just gonna use his great sword uh against uh zombie number five I guess makes the most sense that well Jesus he rolled it too. Okay that's a miss he's infected he's not feeling well. Uh zombie number eight is going to just strut a little bit forward start close that gap uh zombie number one is going to walk through that uh that area that Galford created so what exactly happens to him? Galford uh immobilized till the uh end of its next turn.

Okay so he is immobilized uh zombie number six is going to move forward and try and bite this grizzly bear. It slowed though it was next to the moat. too it says that adjacent enemy hit you with a melee attack effect the triggering enemy takes ongoing five poison damage till save ends so does that mean when he hit me i should have read this thing can see where um just like bits and pieces of its scales and skin are hanging off and it's it's very much its eyes are just glazed over white it is definitely an undead dragon and let's add this guy to the initiative tracker you guys have options now one you guys can cut and run the the the remaining of you who are in the doorway and can flee are baranath valis daegon and rikas uh right now greta is grabbed by a zombie and you got some other zombified stuff closing in on you trixie is grabbed in in the arena like she is she is going to be zombie chow on the other on the other side of this arena you have a zombified blue dragon uh who will be fighting with amara like there's just no way amara can't take this thing on it's it's a fully functional dragon just a zombie now i will say that taking down this zombie will be a major feather in your cap and worth a ton of xp as long as you hit it at some point and it's not just amara sitting there duking it out with it on the other hand um you could totally cut and run and just just just cut and run just leave and then so it is up to you currently valis and greta have been bitten now i don't we've used a lot of our dailies too that's the other problem is that a lot of our heavy uh heavy attacks are already used up i was gonna say i haven't i've been trying to not use those as much as possible i'm actually yeah one left i've used one encounter i've been like waiting for the boss fight yeah i've only used one encounter as well here it is yeah i um i don't want to leave her you guys remember when we were leaving uh on a call the first time and there was that tower we climbed the tower and we could see the city and we saw the darkspane guys running into that house yeah how far are we from that tower because maybe we could summon um silver claw and hammer hand and see if uh if they would converge on the arena too and we'd uh have a little more help taking this thing down um it would take you about i mean now this is assuming you don't get into any fights along the way it'll take you about uh 10 minutes or so to backtrack to it okay and that's assuming you don't get into any fights along the way and you didn't clear the tower coming here just a reminder would they like i realize they're not in our party but since they're allies would they not have heard the horn they are not in your party damn which is it to say they're not nearby or they're not they're not going to hear commotion or they're not gonna i'm just saying that but their would their perception of like seeing a zombified blue dragon emerge and kick something it's not going to really be as effective as if you were hitting something but what it will do is allow you to move about the arena more quickly because you're conjuring a fucking devil horse basically that's um do it if we got to move around like we don't want to all want to be standing in one place and this thing pops off its uh electro blasts again if it improves your speed then i think it's worth it i was gonna say we can have people like line up right there that can do ranged attacks and then because i feel like you and i trixie are gonna be the big tanks along with
