OK, so last time you guys got through part one of Long Live the King. So let's do a quick recap. Strahd has been repelled by the Overwatch forces. You're not exactly sure how they did that as of yet, but they managed to shake Strahd, and Strahd started to fly east. Thorl, sadly, was murdered by one of his own teammates, Ironhide specifically, which caused a bit of a rift within the party. Yenn would seem to be pretty much fed up and look like he was going to walk away. Duncan ended up talking to them, talking to him, and they decided to kind of finish what they started.

But there is definitely some tension within the party. You can kind of feel it. By the end of the episode, you guys had pretty much decided that it's time to charge the gates of the Overwatch. This is it. Like, you're going to go for it. Strahd did a lot of damage when he first attacked. Obviously, Ian is out of commiss-- or, I'm sorry, Nathaniel is out of commission. He has been horribly mutilated. A good portion of his body has been burned and charred. You have lost a bit of your forces. There's not one race who wasn't affected by the strafing run that Strahd did, so everyone's lost people.

So let's open up just after we ended on the last episode. The party is standing with this army. Now, you guys have assembled this force. So what I'm going to ask right now is, would any one of you like to kind of stand in front of them and maybe deliver some sort of speech that would perhaps kind of get them ready to do what they got to do here? I should preface-- I should say, I should preface this. If it's good, then I'm going to give them a plus to certain things that they do during the fight. Is there any kind of check? Yeah, what check would that be?

The diplomacy, probably. I just don't think it'd be in Yennewort's character to have that moment. Right. It wouldn't-- We don't really have many words for this. I mean, Duncan's the only one who's done it in the past. Yeah, Duncan would be the one to do it. I mean, Diana has a super high diplomacy, but don't-- Not a charmer, that Diana. I mean, she could. I just-- I don't know. Let's kill everyone sort of thing. Like, let's do this. Um, it would be a diplomacy check. I mean, Duncan has a plus 14 diplomacy. Yeah, I know. That's what I'm saying. Like, Duncan's probably the best shot then.

It's really dramatic because like the sun is like right behind his head and it's like, it looks good. Do you remember how dramatic it was when they actually did it in the movie?

Like it's like that. It's very dramatic. And I'm not, I'm not wiggling or anything. It's as if I've levitated. That's how I'm reacting. He has both his arms outstretched like Christ. Except I have my guitar. Just, just hanging from like your back. Like Bono. All right. That's the, we're setting the stage, Jason. This is how this is going. Okay. Okay. Crying. Okay. Um, and by the way, I, Duncan is completely straight faced while this is happening. He, uh, he looks over the crowd and he says, everyone, I know, I know we've given a lot. I know that we've lost a lot of people.

We've lost friends and we've lost family. We've lost leaders. And we all know that Nathaniel himself has, has, has, has given a ton. He's he, he can't, he can't fight with us, but, but we're going to lead you. We, we amassed this army and, and we're going to take responsibility. We're going to lead you into battle. This isn't time to give up. This is time to fight. This is the time to fight stronger than before, because as weak as we are, that's how weak they are. The dragon's gone. And this is our only opportunity. We came here to overthrow them. And that's what we're going to do because we can, because we're strong enough.

We may not feel like it right now, but we are because we have, we have good on our side, we're doing the right thing. And that's why we're going to win. That's why we're going to beat Carter. This point, he flips his guitar around and he starts playing the song that Tom had requested earlier in front of all of these men while he's being lifted up by you. Damn all the lights, McDonoughson. As the sun goes down. I think this is going to be like a huge boost for us. It's a great song. It's going to be a cool moment. I think it's going to be good. We need everything we can get.

So this, this, this whole military force is just going to start like picture the last like the speech from Independence Day, Bill Pullman's speech from Independence Day. Just, just like there, they are pumped. Like the Dragonborn just start letting out these roars and fucking like the elves are kind of like cheering in the background. Like this is, this is like, they are ready. The only people not reacting too much are, are the drow. They're just a bit more reserved, but yeah. Too cool for the world. Not much on celebration, the drow. These storm clouds are going to start rolling in.

Oh shit. It's not ominous at all. And it looks like a nasty thunderstorm is going to, is going to be hitting you guys just about the time you probably get towards the gates of the Overwatch. You get a bonus for Stormrunner? Foreshadowing. That's fair. Give me a plus one. You know what? Actually makes sense. I don't know what it is with people who get weapons accord and have to ask for bonuses all the time, but I didn't know I could do it. And so Izzy told me I could. I have to talk to Izzy because I don't know that. You know you can get plus one's on everything.

I'm going to tell you what, because it's a thunderstorm, I'm going to give you a plus one on your attack rolls while the thunderstorm is active. Thank you. Take away your other multiplier and now you just have a plus one. That's it. It's a d20 plus one for every attack now. That's the... What are we rolling? Everyone roll perception for me, please. Diana, Duncan, and Jarek. Sorry. Riding in from the rear, you're going to see two figures on horseback, and that is going to be Leora and Poe.

And they are going to go ahead and kind of, you know, get off their horses, like ride off, ride up to the back of this huge grouping of people, jump off the horses and start making their way towards the front, trying to get to you guys. Leora is going to start looking for Yennward just right off the bat, like immediately. This might sound goofy, but it's actually serious. Has Yennward put Duncan down yet? Have you? Yeah. Okay. This guy was going to wave my arms in the air up ahead. He knew that anyways. Might not be easy. Yeah, but I'm tiny. I'm tiny. Yeah, that's what you're seeing.

Am I in trouble? Um, Leora is going to walk right up to Yennward and she does not do this, but she's going to kind of like reach forward and just kind of hug Yennward just like ever so slightly, just kind of like more almost like a like like kind of a lean forward pat on the back type of thing, not like a real tender embrace, just like just kind of like like it's okay type of thing. She's like reciprocate with a bear hug. She's going to say she's alive. She's they brought her back. She's okay. What are you talking about? I'm talking about Brianna. What?

Um, she's she's gonna uh she she's just kind of gonna look at Yennward from it. They brought her back. She's okay. It was it wasn't fun, but we did it and she's kind of going through some stuff right now, but she is alive. She's she's doing okay. Like alive, alive, alive, alive. She's fine. I'll take you to see her later, but we kind of have something. Is she mad at me? No, no, no, no, no. She doesn't it wasn't your fault. You weren't trying to run her through the gut like you weren't trying to. She knows it's one of the first things she said when she woke up was she was worried about you actually.

That's so sweet. Again, I'll take you to see her later, but right now I'd really like to finish this. Okay, business face. Um, Poe is going to look for Hondo and gonna kind of announce this to the party, but everything in Dern Hollow is taken care of. The kids are fine, by the way. When you say taken care of, what do you mean? Things got complicated and we ended up having a pretty lengthy fight. We lost Alice. Oh, no, that's too bad. That's terrible news. Thank you very much, Poe. Poe's just gonna kind of glare at Hondo. We'll talk about it later, but yeah, right now everything's safe in Dern Hollow.

There's no more Overwatch. Diana's gonna look kind of mildly surprised at this, and then she's gonna sort of nod and say thank you. Yeah, it's fine. So we ready to kill Carter or what? Yeah, yeah, we can do that. Yes, let's get this over with already. All right, let's see here. Everyone, I believe you had a rest the last time. Yeah, OK, so you're all good to go. OK. Advancing towards the gates of the Overwatch. Jason, how far away, like as a group, like we're moving as an army, how far away are the drow from our like main unit? I'm assuming we're in the middle.

Yeah, you'd be kind of leading the pack. OK, and situated to us, where are they? The drow would kind of be in the rear a bit. OK, thank you. They're all nice and stabby, right? So they wouldn't be. Yeah, I mean, they wouldn't be of incredible use actually charging the gates until the gates are open, which is going to be an ordeal because you guys don't have much siege equipment. Nice. Can we go over the gate? You mean climb over the gate or under the gate? Can we go over it? Can we go under it? Don't let us break out shovels and just say ways like ways. I going under is going to take a while.

Yeah, going over it is a possibility like you. I mean, like you can scale it. Yeah, we have big ladders. No, we don't have any siege weapons. No, do we have fire? You have mages. I have a grappling hook. Yeah, so didn't one of the didn't the dragon like break like a wall or something that we could like to say like a serious question. Could we do like like as we're going over a hill or somewhere that could we do a perception check to see what the gates are, but the walls. Absolutely. I'm telling you what you would know about the city before you get there. That's what I'm I'm telling you about.

Like I'm sure Poe would fill you all in on the inner workings of the place and what to expect when you get in there. And it's bleak. Like he would be rattling off how many guards there are, like what to expect when you get in. It is a sprawling, massive city before you ever get to Castle Overwatch. It is. This is not going to be pleasant is the picture he's painting for you. All right. Will Poe and Liara be traveling with us? They're going to be for the most part sticking with the party. Liara definitely will. Poe may be venturing off doing his own thing, but Liara is definitely sticking with the party.

Yeah, before before we get in in the in the can I just kind of just shuffle off a little bit so I could have a private moment with Poe? Sure. So I'm gonna write up next probably like, hey, listen, kid, thank you. Like I mean it this time. I mean, Ellis, whatever, but the kids, as long as they okay, then it's all good. Listen, I need to ask you something about the the Overwatch. You used to work for these guys, right? Technically, yes. So you know, you know the ins and outs of this city, right? Good portion of it. Yeah. Okay. So I mean, do you can you think of any ways, you know, that we could go in undetected as a small unit?

And when I say small, I mean two, maybe three people. And do what exactly? It has to be done. Come on, kid. I thought you were up enough. Look, I don't know exactly what you think you're going to do, but we have tons of city to get through. Thousands of guards just to get to the castle so that we can break down those gates so that we can climb to the top and get to Carter. I don't know what you think two or three people are going to do, but it would have been done while I was living there if it could be. Let me ask you something, kid. Overwatch is a pretty safe place, right?

Depending on how you look at it. Depending on how you look at it. What about the lesser, you know, focus minded individuals of society? You mean crooks? You can call them whatever you want. They don't exist. They don't exist. Okay. All right. Forget about it. Forget I even asked. Let's go. Look, there's one thing the Overwatch does right. It's crime. There's it doesn't exist. Yeah, no, because everyone's uncorruptible. Come on, let's go. I'm done. It's not that they're uncorruptible. Kid, I'm done. Thank you very much. Then he's just gonna ride back to the rest of the video.

I was just gonna give this look like this fuck bag. Like just what just happened? Yeah, just. Okay. So this is a marching army now. There are not enough horses to sustain everyone. Obviously, you would need fucking thousands. How would you guys I'm gonna ask you how you siege these gates is completely up to you. Why is it up to us? Aren't the leaders of the armies in charge? Didn't they form a coalition? I mean, here's the problem. You can leave it up to them completely up to them, but they will take your advice. If you lean in and say, hey, it maybe be better if we did this.

There are a few scant mages who are of decent power within the group who have the ability to lob fireballs at this gate. There are two siege weapons. You have two catapults following way in the rear who can also siege this gate, the rest of which is just pure brute force. If you decide to charge in. Do we know what their plan would be if we don't interfere? Their plan as of now is to just try and pepper these gates with as many shots from these catapults as possible just to try and break it open enough so that you can charge into the city. The problem with that is that the way the Overwatch walls are set up, they have a massive amount of archers and anti siege equipment on the top.

So funneling in to try and break down the gate as people, you're entering into a kill box and we have no dragons or anything like that. So I liked Justin's idea earlier. Can we do some kind of perception or something to see if there's any weak spots? Okay, please do. You are close enough now that you can roll perception before this. Everybody quit. Go Ironheart. Shit, so hopefully we'll find out something from that. Okay, Ironheart is going to spot this and start pointing it out. The dragon did do a pretty good amount of damage. Now, the way the city is set up is the landmass pretty much funnels into the front gate.

The Overwatch as a city itself is built on a cliffside overlooking a waterfall. Waterfall actually runs under the bottom of the city and then delves into a network of caves. You guys have been there. You can't siege the city from the sides or the rear. You have to do it from the front. This makes it almost impenetrable unless you have a huge force. Thankfully, you guys do have a huge force, but if this isn't played right, you can lose a shitload of guys right off the bat at the front gates. The dragon, that means, had to land right in the front of the city and while he took a brunt of...

It looks like they have ballistas right at the top on the walls, hovering around the gates. So this dragon was taking shot after shot of ballista fire and eventually it probably just became too much for him. Now, you can see where the sides of the walls have been charred and it looks as though he slammed a good portion of the right-hand side of the gate. So the gate itself has been weakened and on the side of the gate, the wall itself is cracked. This dragon did a number on the face of the city, so he may have just saved you potentially thousands of soldiers' lives.

If you can get some shots lobbed at that portion, you might be able to break the wall down and race in. Hovering around the wall, you're going to see what appear to be at least a thousand archers circled around the front portion of the city. The city itself is circular in shape, so this curved wall, you're just going to see row after row after row of archers. They are preparing for you. They know you're coming. You are conspicuous as fuck, like everyone knows what's about to happen. How would you guys like to play it? Question. The drow are proficient in poison, yes?

They are. Would it be too far-fetched to think that we can do something with some poisons to some of the dead bodies and launch them over the walls as a distraction measure? So my idea is that one side of... We can't, even though we are sitting directly at the front, because that's the only place we can do it at, we focus fire there while a separate grouping of people try and scale another side of the wall. Is that a plausible idea? That is something you could do, yeah. Scaling the wall is going to take a bit of time and it's going to... But then my plan, again, looking forward, is to scale the wall, get over there and get the...

Attack from behind and try and get the gates open, but I don't know how much defense we're going to face inside, that's what I'm saying. Is it plausible? Putting poison gas or something inside the city where we're going to be heading that might not turn out in our favor in the end. I'm just throwing ideas. I'm just throwing ideas. Yeah, no, no, I get you. I'm just trying to do something. The caves are not an option, correct? They don't lead into the city, no. Yeah. Is it rained at this point? Yeah, it's going to start drizzling. The storm's really starting to roll in now.

So that might actually hinder the archers? A bit, yeah. It'll also hinder yours. Well, and also anything based with fire. Yeah, a little bit. Yeah. We could just get Yenward to stand way back and everyone stands beyond arch-length. He just throws Stormrender repeatedly at the gate. We could use it as a lightning rod. There you go. Can we get some mages to focus fire on... Oh my God. Yenward throws his axe, buries it in the gate. We get some mages to focus fire, some electricity on that, and then boom. Blows his... Maybe we should get by the mages and talk to them and figure out what they can actually do.

Like what their powers are. Would Po or Thing have given us that kind of information, Jason? Yeah, like Po is... Yeah, I mean like you guys have the breakdown of who's in your army at this point. Like you know, the mages you have are just kind of scattered. There's a couple of mages in each race. I mean, the biggest thing they're going to be able to do is firebolt. You don't have any archmages or anyone from Moominero. Like any real powerful, like heavy hitter type of mages. Like they can toss some fireballs, they can start to burn away at the gate. I think...

I'm sorry, go ahead then. Sorry, go ahead. What I was going to say is it sounds like there's a crack in the wall, correct? Yep, and the right side portion of the gate has been slammed repeatedly. Okay, so to me it almost sounds like force would be a better option than fire at the gate. So what if we had the mages lob fireballs at archers while we had the catapults try to take down the gate and the wall? And then what do the remaining people do? Because we're going to be receiving fire. Prepare to siege when the walls are... Yeah, prepare to go. Prepare to run like...

Do we have any front line troops with shields? How big is the crack in the wall? This runs the entire length of the wall vertically. Okay, is there anyone in any of the races that are particularly skilled with explosives? The dwarves. Dwarves could do it. They'd need to get close enough to place them. Yeah, but that might be our best bet. We could use shields as like a cover for the arrows. Could put dwarves and the catapults. Should we put the bombs and the catapults? Yeah. No, no, that's not gonna... Because it needs to be like inside it if we want to make sure it really tears it down.

Yeah. Well, not just that, but the way explosives work in theory, they have to be lit and they are highly combustible in that. Okay, why don't we then have... Again, I'm going back on my idea a bit, but have one group of us as a distraction unit while the other task force try and get through either the wall or the gate. And we use that as an entry. That's just going to be wasting lives. There has to be... Well, this is war. People are going to die anyway. Well, I know. They're dying for no reason. Okay, Telmar, the distraction force is a decent idea because...

Yeah, it is. If we start shooting catapults, let's say we start shooting catapults and fire and stuff at the opposite side of the gate. And so the archers are going to start paying attention there. And while that's going on, maybe have as many dwarves as can run in and try to blow up the weak side of the gate. Yeah. I'm just... Yeah, no, I mean, as long... I don't know. Yeah, whatever. Well, the point of this is everyone's going to have a job and someone's going to get it. Like, I mean, there's no way... Do we have like the boats or anything that we can have them put over their heads to block arrows?

The boats that we came in on. Boats. We came in on. Yeah, or a land-based... Something like that. I don't... I mean, they have shields they can just put up over their heads. Make shields like the Romans did. Right. I mean, they're going to be protecting themselves as best as possible, don't get me wrong. And the archers can only take out so many of them, but... Do the mages have any shielding stuff they can do? Not mobile, no. Okay, question. Is there a group of people that are really good with shields that actually have them? The dwarves don't use shields all that much.

There's a few of them. The dragonborn do. Okay, so why not have a bunch of dwarves in the middle? A dragonborn, like with the shields out, like the Iruk-hai did in the... Yeah, yeah. ...Rohan. Yeah, no, that makes... Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Just cover the top and the sides and just start marching ahead. We are attacking Helmsteve. Exactly, that's what we're trying to do. Like while the mages are peppering them with the fireballs and the catapults are running so they're kind of split between who they have to focus. Why are we? But also we're not who. But things like we're going to still want to focus on that part of the gate because that's the obvious thing to do and if we don't do that we're going to think we're up to something, which I mean we are, but it's like...

Oh, the whole sneak attack thing is pretty much out the window. There's no way you're going to avert the gaze of a thousand archers while they're firing. We can like re-buttskrieg them and hit them from every side that we can without losing so many lives. Our best shot is probably to just pepper the gates, like go with the original plan, but then have the group go with the explosives underneath all that because the best chance at possibly not getting killed before they reach there is hiding in the midst of chaos sort of thing. So avoiding the hour and a half of debate, let me see if I can clarify what you guys are pitching.

Have the catapults fire at the gate, just fire boulders and whatever they can at the gate to try and put a den in that. While that's going on you have a contingent of dragonborn and dwarves try and get close enough to the gate to have the doors set explosive charges near the crack or the gate itself just to blow it open. On the wall. Preferably the crack, yeah. Okay, meanwhile you have mages lobbing fireballs at the top of the ramparts trying to take out as many archers as possible and give you guys some cover. And elves. And well, and elves, yeah, firing arrows obviously.

What will you guys be doing during this? This is also what I wanted to say. I think it would be a good idea if Draconis takes a hit of his blood root and he joins the mages. Oh yeah, definitely. Yeah. She's fiery stuff. That's something. Get your horse out there if you need to punch him, like to relieve some of that pressure then go right on in. I can throw some fireballs that way, yeah, that's no problem. Okay, then that is what we'll do. So this is gonna be, this is gonna be a series of dice rolls, let's see. I wanna roll something. Yeah, I wanna roll something too.

I'm scared. Okay, you'll each get a turn. Could do. But then if someone rolls fast they're gonna get the blade. Yeah, well, I mean that's part of the volunteer. Jason rolls everything. I was on fire last night. Yeah, you were actually. Yeah, great. Okay. God. So the first lightning strikes cue up behind the city as you start to, this is a nasty thunderstorm. This is a torrential downpour at this point. They're up higher. So everyone is just getting beaten down with rain. Some of the races deal with that much better than others. Drow aren't usually exposed to the weather too much so they tend to get a bit miserable in the rain.

The fucking mentors hate water. They hate it. My posts feel icky. Alright, here's what I'm gonna have you guys do. You are now close enough that you're gonna start receiving fire from these archers. So I want you to place all your characters right in this vicinity for right now. Okay. Oh boy. Now if I'm with the other mages does that mean I'm farther back or what? You're gonna be off to the side. You're gonna have your own thing. So while they're preparing, I'm gonna go right down the line and we're gonna do dice rolls back and forth. Okay. Like is this side okay or do you want the other side?

It doesn't matter. You're fine, you're fine. Doesn't matter. This is just for reference. Gotcha. So here's what's gonna happen. These archers are going to start firing. 28 versus all of your ACs. Shit. That hits. Hey Draconis, get on the field. He told me to go to the side. Not yet, not for Draconis, not quite yet. Yeah, I'm over on the side. Nine damage to everyone. So go ahead and take nine damage to everyone. So a volley of arrows is going to start peppering this entire army. It's going to go just right down the line just just constant. And you guys are going to catch a couple of stray arrows and that's going to do nine damage.

Meanwhile the elves behind you are going to... You can hear the collective pull of a thousand bow strings as they release arrows back at those archers. 18. Okay, so your side is going to do flat d20 rolls for their stuff to see how well they're performing. Right. 18 is fucking phenomenal. They're going to start picking off archers off this wall right and left. Meanwhile the mages... Draconis. Oh yeah. Give me a favor, roll a flat d20. d20. Wait, wait, wait. Did he slip a powder? Oh, you didn't. Oh, okay. Yes, that's a d100, right? No, no, no, no, no. No, no, no.

It should be. Unlike the route of wonder, there aren't that many random things that are going to happen when a drug addict takes drugs. Like it's just varying degrees of both. Have you taken drugs, Jason? Have you tried blood loop? Yeah. Man. So, okay, do me a favor, roll a flat d20 for the blood root. This is the blood root right here. Yes. And 14. Boom. Pull out that list. Hold on a second. I love these so much. Curious as if this is a school list or... He's away from all of us. Right. Fireball goes straight up and straight down and kills all of the other mages.

No, that's good. That's a good role. This is fucking awesome. Good. What is it? One daily power of yours will recharge as soon as you use it up to three times. Yeah. Save that for when we get to the like inside. Just spam him with your fish. Yeah. You're killing me. That effect lasts for the next few hours. Okay. That is so awesome. Oh, next few hours? That is awesome. Sometimes you want to punch a horse to death.

Sometimes you actually want to work with the group. If I could just crack the shell four times. Oh, God. Um, Jesus. So I'm cracked out of my mind right now. Yes, you are feeling it. You want me to throw? Yeah, roll a D20 throw fireball. Fireball. Boom. 19. 19. That's more like it. That is one of your fireballs. Just to let you know. Oh, wait. Oh shit. Well, I mean, you're using a fireball like that's to help out. You get four of them now, dude. You're using them. That's not a daily. It is a daily. Oh, that's a daily. Fireball. Oh, it is? Oh, yeah. Fireballs daily. That's that's a big one.

The problem is all of his other stuff is a little more close range. So you guys are close enough to the gates to whip a fireball, but that also, you know. Well, at least he gets four of them. Draconis's fireball, along with a few other ones, are going to it's going to mark and twist and turn in the air. This thing has weight, and it is going to splash against the ramparts. And you're going to watch several of these Overwatch archers in that vicinity catch fire and start flailing and fall off the wall backwards and forwards. So they're going to start tumbling off of this wall and just around the gates.

That was highly effective. You are starting to clear them out over just over the gate itself. Yenward. Hey. Do me a favor, roll a flat D20 to see how well these Dragonborn are going to do protecting these dwarves, getting them close to the gate. Sure thing, Andrew. Damn it. That was a thing. Unfortunately, while... Or at eight, everyone at home. At eight. While Draconis and these other mages are whipping fireballs at the top of these ramparts, several of the Dragonborn kind of forming a reinforced square around these dwarves are going to be picked off with arrows.

Just dead instantly. In fact, you would say about 60% of them are dead. Christ. The rest are raising their shields trying to keep these arrows off of the dwarves. The only thing keeping these dwarves safe right now are the fact that the Dragonborn are so much taller than the dwarves that they can just kind of keep their head down. If these explosives are touched in pretty much any way, shape, or form, they will explode and it will be a massive rippling explosion. The problem is they have to get at least somewhat close to the gate to do any damage. Okay, well how fucking far are they from the gate?

Are they kamikazes? Are they going to kill them? They're not trying to kill themselves. They're trying to light these. They're still about a hundred yards away from this gate. So how far did they actually travel so far? They've traveled about 20 yards. Wood's going low. Would Cloud of Darkness be a hindrance or helpful to them? They would blind them. Shit! Damn it! That's why I wanted to draw on my side. I mean our side. I mean our side. Yours, yes. Aha. It's for all of us. Okay, what's the next step happen? The Overwatch are going to start lobbing arrows at you guys again. 29 versus all of your AC.

Miss. Miss. Yep. 14 damage everyone. Can I volley Stormrunner at one of them? Look it, I'm using shield. Interrupt. Immediate interrupt. I'm hit by an attack. Gain +4 power post, AC, and reflex. That means it misses me. Actually wait, no, nevermind, because that would hit because it's the... Dice world thing. Okay. Serious question, can I throw Stormrunner up there? Uh, if you'd like to go with the Dragonborn, you'd need to get a bit closer to throw a Stormrunner. But yeah, you can. There's a range. I'll stick right now. Okay. Um, Draconis. They're going to start firing at these mages.

Ugh. Uh, because... Yeah, fuck that. Like it's like, whoa, that's a bigger threat right now. 34. That will, believe it or not... Yeah. Uh, 7 damage. Okay, not too bad, not too bad. Uh, the elves are going to start firing back with their arrows. One. Wow. Crap. So that's not good. Did he... All of their bows backfired and snapped them in the eyes. Oh, it's because it's wet. Okay, it's wet. It's, uh, the rain and wind is starting to affect their aim, and most, if not almost all, of the arrows fired by these elves are going to harmlessly clatter against the side of the walls of the Overwatch.

So, um, these, uh, the archers are going to start to try and fill in the gaps where the fireball and the archers made over the gates themselves. Draconis. Yes. Do me a favor. Would you like to lob another fireball? Oh, man, yes. We need to... I guess so, yeah, yeah, yeah, yep, yep. Gonna do it. Okay, roll a flat T20 for me, please. 17. 17. Got 'em. Something went right. Again, Draconis is going to lob a fireball. I'm guessing you're lobbing it towards the gates, like the top. Yep, uh-huh. Yep. Uh, same thing. That, along with a couple of other fireballs, are going to almost combine in mid-air and just splash against the side, just kind of a rippling explosion of fire all along the top of the ramparts, and it is going to catch the top portion of the gate, like, on fire just a bit, and you're going to see where they have had...

They have set up provisions for all the archers. Like, they have spare quivers ready. They have... All of that's going to go up in flame. Like, this time, like, that really caught everything up there. Oh, nice. Good shot. Lovely. Do me a favor, Duncan, roll a flat d20 to see how well these Dragonborn are doing, protecting the... Oh, come on. ...the dwarves. You got this. Good. Here we go. Yes! Sixteen. That's, like, the most important part of me. This time, another volley of arrows is going to be fired down upon these dwarves and Dragonborn. The Dragonborn are going to raise...

The Dragonborn have these really lengthy shields that pretty much cover their entire bodies, and this time the angle of it is just so that they can block pretty much all of these incoming arrow fire. A couple of the Dragonborn have taken a stray shoulder shot, but they're still marching with these dwarves, and they're going to go ahead and make it another 40 yards towards this... Towards the gate. They are now 60 yards away from the gate. Halfway there, guys. Come on. The Overwatch soldiers, do me a favor. Yanward, roll Perception, please. Okay. They do nothing!

Yanward never gets a good Perception roll. He's oblivious to everything. Just because he's right there. I picture him standing next to Duncan while... I don't know. Yanward is not going to notice. Even though it's coming on nightfall, it's getting darker. The wind and rain are really affecting things. It's just... Every once in a while, everything will just be illuminated with a stray lightning strike and kind of thunder clatter in the background. All along the walls of the Overwatch, you're going to see tiny fires ignite as the archers have now begun to light their arrows on fire before they start tossing them down at you.

Well, yeah, that doesn't prevent them. I mean, there's... There's... It's like a tar that they light up. Can we do the same thing on our side? Do we have those resources? Yes, the elves are... Yeah, that's something that takes time to prep and set up. But yeah. Can I do a Perception check? For what? I want to see if the ground is labeled with tar. Or anything like that, like some kind of flammable oil or something like that. Sure, go ahead. Isn't that the awful... 15. This is just a... Yes. Run! Ironhide's not seeing anything like that. It doesn't look like they have any booby traps outside of their own walls or anything.

They appear to have total and complete faith in their ability to defend the city with sheer manpower and anti-siege weapons. Question. Yes. Am I close enough that I could use a Cloud of Darkness, but not on us? On them? Like on the wall? Well, you would be... You'd be over 100 yards away. Yeah, never mind. I'm sorry. Yeah. I'm sorry for asking the question. Is there a way for us to like, run out there, grab one of their shields, like the Dragonblood? And walk with them to help reinforce them? Well, I mean, like, I was thinking about that earlier on, but... You can try and race out there to meet them.

They're going to be moving slower than you would at a full sprint because they've got to stay in a cluster. All right, yeah. I'm going to do that. All right, Ironhide is going to try and join the Dragonborn. So, um, here's what's going to happen. Oh no. Each one of you that join the Dragonborn, you're going to get a plus one to the flat d20 roll that... What if I grab two shields? No. No? Okay, just one. That's all I need. Oh no. All right. If they die we're fucked. The problem is if that explosive goes off next to you... I know. Well, that's what I'm doing. So I was about to say it has taken out PCs before.

All right, let's do this. Oh my god. All right. Ironhide is going to run to join the Dragonborn and he is going to scoop up a shield away. Character, just, uh, there's an opportunity for me to be rid of Ironhide and the dwarves and one fell swoop. All the dwarves right there. Chunk of them. Not this dwarf. So just Ironhide. So, um, Yennward, the next time I ask you to roll a flat d20, add a plus one to it. K3. No cap. Oh, he did the same? He grabbed a shield? Oh, Yennward didn't go with you. No, I'm saying like he did grab a shield now. Who? You? No, you said Yennward.

You add a plus one to your defense roll. When I ask, when I ask like back and forth, I'm asking members of the party to roll a flat d20 to see how well the Dragonborn are doing. Oh, okay. I see. Yeah, that's what that's for. Oh, okay. Fire arrows from the Overwatch are going to start raining down upon the army. 17 versus your AC. Crit miss. How come they were allowed a plus 16 and the elves don't? Because they're on fire. They have fire arrows. The elves have fire arrows? No, no, no, no, no. No, they have tactical advantage. They're above us. Yeah. And Jason also said that it would take time to set something like that up.

So I'm assuming we'd have to. You're going to get it. It's just going to take time. Like they're like, imagine they're set up for this. Like they're all their shits right there. They could endlessly fight you off for days with arrows. Like they like that's all they do is mass produce weaponry in that huge fucking city. And they have the space and the protection to do it. Well, we've had some vampires or some zombies. Well, you know how that went. Let's have the vampire debate again. Haven't done that in a while. That old number. That's two listeners. I was about to say that they were listeners when they heard that.

Just kind of ripple and catch a lot of the grass and things on fire near the left side of the gate. The elves have started to light arrows on fire on this side. So a 15. To me? No, no, no. They're not firing at you. Oh, okay. The elves seem to be back on target aim wise, and they are going to launch another volley at these Overwatch soldiers and start picking off a good portion of them that are hovering around the gate.

The area above the gate looks to be pretty much free and clear right now. Every time that this... Every time a volley gets launched at them, they duck behind the ramparts. Some of them aren't quick enough and they'll tumble off. The fire obviously is hindering them. They can't always see what's coming in because of this thunderstorm. So you are taking out a significant chunk of them. Like you've probably taken out three or 400 of them so far. That is a damn fine chunk. That is about 60% of them that were on this wall. Yenward, do me a favor. Roll a d20 plus one.

Sure. Damn it. Oh my God. Dude. If it explodes and takes like our two strongest... Ironhide's dead. Our two strongest. Wait. Yenward didn't go. Yenward was there too, wasn't he? No. No. Yenward's... About 45% of the remaining Dragonborn have just been nailed with arrows. Shut up. And are unable to continue trotting along with these dwarves. Which means two things. One, it means that this force can speed up ever so slightly because there's not as many clustered.

It also means that the dwarves have almost no shielding remaining. How far away are they? They've just moved another 20 yards towards this gate. One more roll? Probably one more. Well like everything's gonna depend on that. Don't worry guys, I'm not gonna flub the next one. How many yards are we away? Uh, you would be... Let me see. You're about 40 yards away. Why don't you make one for it? You're a barbarian. This is what you live for. Yeah, but it's not him. He's not trying to protect... They're moving quicker as they're alert. No, no, no. I mean, I mean he grabs a bomb and makes a run for it.

Says the guy all the way in the back. Yeah. This isn't... This isn't... Okay. I know most of you probably haven't heard group three, so there was a series of episodes where they were using explosives. This is a larger pack of explosives than that. This is set to take out this wall. Like that's... This is a larger bunch of explosions than the one that took out the Warforged Titan. This is... I remember what happened with the last explosives. Is this the equivalent of a missile? The Titan had a name. It was the Enward II. I'm sorry. I was being insensitive. Yeah, you were.

Um, at least you got a gnome that might... At least, no. Who probably won the run away match. Um, uh... Let's see, uh... Overwatch is going to get ready and fire down upon you guys. That's scary. Muroc. Damn. That's going to hit your AC. Yeah, yeah, that is. One damage. 23 damage to everyone. Caught me right in the cheek with that one. I'm bloody. They're also going to fire up the mages. 27 to your AC. So wait, wait. 20 damage to Draconis. Diane is also a mage and she's not there with the mages. I don't have anything fire-wise. I do mind control. Enchant the fireballs. Enchanta is like mind stuff. They don't... Two of the mages that were standing next to Draconis have just been killed with arrow fire. God. So it's just Draconis and one other mage. Another, uh... Another elf. Yeah. Uh, Draconis, would you like to lob another fireball? Oh, if I shoot my last one, I don't have any more. That's what last one means. That's... I know. That's... If it's a good roll, it will give a plus to the Dragonborn and Dwarves. So you're trying to tell me... Everything's already on that. We need every plus to that we could get.

I'm just gonna go into visible and sit here. No. Okay. Yeah. I'm gonna shoot my, uh... I'm gonna throw the last fireball. Throw the last fireball. There we go. 10. That's 50/50. That's not terrible. That's not bad. That's average. How about that? Could do worse. Good job. That's something... These last two fireballs are going to arc towards, uh, just just above the gates again. And the splash damage is going to take out a handful of archers. And that will afford the Dragonborn, Ironhide, and these Dwarves a little breathing room. So we're going to give you a plus two to the roll.

So that is a plus three to the flat d20 roll. Now if these elves also do well, um, then that could give another plus. The entire point is to clear out as much of the archers around the gate that could fire down upon them. Because now it's getting to the point where they're they're basically right on top of you guys. All they have to do is fire straight down at you. What about well-wishing? Can the group well-wish us? I don't know if anyone would wish Ironhide well. Well I'm saying like, okay, you could die out here or you can run in there. I'll play a song.

I don't know what that's gonna do. That's it. And um, if, if, if, uh, if Duncan would like to play something inspirational for these elves. Uh, two princes, but no. Yes! They killed themselves. Yes! And they're going to tumble backwards. You're going to hear a constant barrage of screaming as they fall backwards into the city. You're also going to hear panic from the other side.

This is not going the way they'd like. Touching fire. Duncan. Oh my god. Yes. Roll a D20 plus four please. Oh man. This is it. This is it. Yes! 22! Oh my god. Oh my god. That's amazing. Sensing the urgency of the situation, these dwarves are going to start double timing it towards this gate. Ironhide is going to be constantly peppered with arrows and you, he can hear, um, he can hear this large metallic shield just like clang, clang, clang. It's basically like holding a car door. This thing is fucking huge and heavy. There are only a handful of Dragonborn that make it to the gate with the dwarves and Ironhide.

And the dwarves are going to start immediately setting up this pack of explosives. At this point, now they're stationary. All the dwarves and Dragonborn have to do is kind of hold their shields just straight up. That's all they have to do. It's, it's, it's an arrow umbrella. That's what they are right now. Yes, thank god. There is very little the Overwatch can do about this, this set of explosives being, uh, being, being set up. Um, what they can do is continue to fire arrows at the party while this is being done. Yeah, they can. 23 versus your AC. Yes! Myth.

God, I took that letter off. Took Honda though. It staked my life. Yeah, hit Honda. Uh, it does hit Honda. Okay. Like a boss, you take that out of the chest, rip it out and say, "Yeah, bro!" That's, that's what he does. Um, that the hondo, do you have any like bonuses to heal searches from many clerical things? I do. I'm a cleric. Like area effect. Everyone is just wondering. I don't have, that's the funny thing. I don't have any spells that heal group because he's half cleric. Yeah. But I'm just asking like, what, for you to heal a search, do we get any bonus to it? I thought we're gonna blow shit up. Well, not yet, but you will. The problem with that is they have a much higher elevation than the battlefield. Like they're on top of like a tower per think of it and like putting a wall. What's that what they're doing? Yes. They're on a wall. Yeah, obviously. Yeah, no. Um, yep. I will sit here and wait then. Okay. Um, uh, let's see here. The elves are going to fire back. Oof, that's a seven. Not so great. Um, they'll pick off the stray, uh, the stray Archer every once in a while, but it's not that, that was not a very successful volley.

All right. The here's, what's going to happen because time is of the essence. Uh, the dwarves are not giving this a particularly long fuse. It should be long enough for them to get away as long as they can get away clean and not be pelted with arrows. So from across the battlefield, you are going to watch the, uh, you're going to watch this, this, this kind of shield umbrella part as they get ready to run away. From this crack in the wall, uh, the words have placed the explosives in the wall, kind of lining it. Uh, and these fuses have been lit. Are they running away from the wall or they're running away from the wall?

Um, Hey Jason, real quick. Yeah. Does Jason get, does Hondo get a surge in addition to the 10 or just the 10? Yeah, I was, that's what I was trying to figure out, but I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to sound stupid. No. Okay. Um, it should be explained. Those potions are pretty much used for inside combat because why? Because it's a minor action. So instead of spending one of your, your heal spells or something, would you just like to go back and spend a healing search instead of the potion? Uh, if that would benefit, you know, fuck it.

So that you just don't infinitely heal. Sorry. Go ahead. Um, you get your potion back and, uh, just spend a healing search minus 10.

Cause you already got 10 hit points back. Um, here's the thing. Love you, Iron High. I don't like that word. Now, now this might be really good. They are, they're booking it away from the wall, which means their shields are on their backs, but a large portion of them are exposed while they run. Ironhide has longer legs. He can be ahead of them. But that shield doesn't know how to use them yet. Cramping off him is exposed. Uh, so what's going to happen here is the lot of these, let's see, 35 damage to Ironhide. That's going to hurt. 35 damage to Ironhide and a lot of these dwarves, uh, and the remainder of the Dragonborn are going to fall.

At least he's not instantly dead. He's still kicking. Wait, I get something if I'm bloodied. Yeah, he's your barbarian. It's probably an in combat thing. Yeah, and we're in a smile satisfactory. You fucking asshole. All right, just keep going. Yeah. Okay. Do me a favor, everyone roll perception, please. Okay. Me first, you guys. I appreciate you waiting this time. That was actually really good. And everyone got really good rolls after we waited for you. I see how this works now. The entire group is going to witness this explosion go off. They are going to clash with a another subsection of guards directly behind the ones that were that were burst into flames. And they are going to, the dragonborn are going to dig in with their shields, run in and just kind of plow like shoulder charge. They have a huge force of momentum coming in. And because they're about twice the size of these humans, they're going to be able to battering ram most of them with one fell swoop. That is hugely intimidating to watch them have the momentum to just run through that section of wall and just bam, just come in.

The dwarves are going to come in right behind them and just start uppercutting people with hammers and axes and just start digging in. Behind them, the drow, the people from Donhurst, everyone is going to start funneling into the city and the elves are going to start taking up a defensive position in the rear and just start throwing arrows in towards the back. That'll open you guys up to run into the city with them and kind of bat clean up. Their goal is to open up a pathway for you to get to the castle because everyone is pretty much there for Carter's head.

So charging into the city, you got your characters placed. You are going to do we get Liara and Pope? You're going to get Liara, not Pope. Okay. Hey, Jason, what were the out of curiosity? If anybody had any delusions of something like that happening, probably not. Maybe we should take time and put out all these fires.

They are all going to take in the absolute carnage that's taking place as you're trotting to Castle Overwatch. This army is buying you time to get to your destination. They are fighting tooth and nail with the with the guard in the city. The elves have gotten to the point where they can no longer just blindly fire arrows into the crowd because they will kill civilians. They will kill innocent people and now they have broken out into a full sprint and since they are faster than you have rocketed past the group and are in the thick of it just hacking and slashing their way across the city.

Did you say the tables have turned? Within the city, yeah. This is this is not looking great. A lot of the humans in the city are while they are great at patrolling streets and keeping the peace, these aren't exactly the trained soldiers that would be out on the battlefield. They relied very heavily on the warforged and while they can throw sheer numbers at the problem, once you're in the city there's very little they can do. They can't launch siege weapons anymore and they can't without destroying their own city. In the distance you're going to see Castle Overwatch.

There is this vague purple column of light kind of illumining the back end of the city. It's almost like the bat signal shining straight up into the air and it looks like it's coming from inside the castle itself. Guarding the castle gates is another contingent of guards. This looks to be a slightly smaller force than what you just ran into but they do appear to be a bit more formidable. So if everyone would do me a favor and place your characters right here. Let's not forget that maybe after this battle if we're alive we should run some kind of arcana check on the purple light.

Can I do that right now? Because you're gonna have to get a lot closer to it. Yeah that's what I said. You know this is within the castle so you'll have some options if you get into the castle. We do have good arcana but yeah let's see if we can not die here. We can do this. Like we're in our margalita uh glass. Yeah. We should have elites with him. I'm even scared. Well he's not done yet. out with uh the warforged uh the controlling of the warforged uh and the beacon which would be that purple light that you you've seen you would know that much about him okay does she relay this information to the rest of the yes yes i would um she actually she would tell them about lore weaver she would lead this she would mention that there that he was one of two archmages but she would leave the stuff about thermac out she would not say his name problem is like iron head already knows that though yeah yeah no it's fine if you know that she's not gonna say it all right still i think make them 100 loyal to the overwatch at the same time it was it looks as though he was working on some sort of experiment that would uh that would not only allow them to control the free will of a changeling but uh have them give them the ability to to morph into something more useful so that's what you can glean from the books okay diana will relate the information back to everyone else and also uh how many books are there uh three okay she's gonna talk to them all okay and then um yeah i think that's it it's about what i gathered from them too i concur inward is there any danger for uh that you know about um can i like search around on like desk and drawers and stuff and see if there's anything of interest what would uh that would have been part of the perception check okay that's thing on the way out to make go ahead see general see what you would see okay where's my perception pffft yanward and hondo uh would be kind of as you're going up the the staircase like your your every every time you pass the floor you just kind of like pop in it's like okay and uh uh mostly these would be things like the second floor there's like a there's like a little barracks area um there's uh there are multiple rooms like like living quarters sleeping quarters that kind of thing you are not catching anything uh just just on the face of it you're not catching anything of super like you're not catching you know valuable items or there are things on the walls you could loot if you'd like uh there are uh kind of ornate weapons and things like that you could pawn off and and get some cash for a plug or keep a couple of those yeah heading to the top floor once you get to the top of the staircase there is a long hallway decorated with a red carpet that leads to a set of double doors um and liara is going to kind of motion with her head to the end of the hallway i'm guessing that would be the throne room that does seem likely there is no one standing on the outside of these doors the perception please go ahead god no 23 not too bad i'm just along for the ride delmar and diana um hondo and diana how about that um this is a very posh looking decorated hallway leading to the uh the double doors that would go into the throne room uh normally you're guessing there would be some sort of guard some sort of something but for some reason this hallway is stark and empty in contrast to everything that you've encountered leading into this um it doesn't even appear as though those doors would hold up against much of a fight like if you really wanted to smash through them you're guessing you could smash through them oh man you would just smash through them delmar do you want to take dungeoneering and i'll do arcana just to make sure there's not any like traps or behind carter against the wall uh is a figure clad in armor face covered head to toe this guy is armored to the hilt is that everyone that's in the room uh everyone in that that's in the room
