The life of a baker, blacksmith, or hunter just doesn't appeal to this particular type of person. Spurred on by a want to become rich, famous, or perhaps just make the world a better place for those around them, they travel the open roads between towns and forests in search of the next point of interest.

Over the past two years, Alara has seen quite a few new adventuring parties. A group that used to be in higher regard were the White Ravens. Formed during the war against the Overwatch, they were originally created as a way for common people to use what little means they had in order to fight back against the tyrannical city. Striking in the night and using any advantage they had, they faced overwhelming odds and lost much in order to help those in need. After the Overwatch fell, Breanna Ebelmair, their leader, tried to use the Ravens as a way to help settlements in other areas of the continent.

While not without its problems, the Ravens did do a great deal to help those in need. Sadly, after Bre's death at the Seal on Kion, the Ravens began to fall by the wayside. With no true leader, the large group slowly drifted apart and have now all but disappeared. However, there are those who haven't given up on the dream of a better Theria for everyone. These individuals still strive and sacrifice for the good of those around them. They do what they can to help people in need. And that is who we're focusing on today. - Uh, let's do that thing where we go around the table and introduce ourselves.

I'm Jason, I'm the Dungeon Master, going around the table starting with Mac. - Hi, I'm Mac and I play Kaluna Volgares, the Wild and Druid. - And Jane. - Hi, I'm Jane, I play Ephini, the Gnome Bard. - And Bree. - Hi, I'm Breanna and I play Klara, the Half-Elf Fighter. - And Zach. - What's up, my name is Zach and I play Aveline Bates, the Human Fighter. - And Lisa. - Hey, I'm Lisa and I play Elorath Bissner, the Halfling Barbarian. - Ah, so just like we did on the other groups, I'd like to go around one more time and just sort of introduce your characters in case there's new listeners, in case there's just people curious about what's been going on in the last two years and three months, if you're a returning character.

How about we start again with Mac? - How about we not? Kaluna is a person. - Good, good start, good start. - I was actually going somewhere with that, but then it just sounded so bad that I had to laugh at myself. - Yeah, Kaluna is five foot nine. They're covered in plants. They are a plant. They kind of look like a cat in the face. Real good descriptions, I'm amazing. For the past two years and three months, Kaluna's been hanging out in the Evergreen, helping with all the bullshit that's happening there. And that's about it. - Silverglade or Evergreen? - Evergreen.

- Evergreen initially, okay. Yeah, okay. 'Cause I know you just got done in the Silverglade visiting. - Yep, went to visit the family, had to check in for Thanksgiving. - Jane, how about you? - Stephanie's three foot five. She has red hair, green eyes. She usually has ink stains on her fingers. She has been hanging out with Elarath and Averland, traveling around and also doing quite a bit of writing. - Brie. - Hi. - Clara is a half-elf, very visibly drow and very visibly half-human. She has light gray skin, red hair with a little blonde streak going throughout, blue eyes, lots of piercings, a scar by her left eye, and she's rather short.

And when she's out and about in the sunlight, she likes to wear a very loose mask over her face so that she doesn't go super dark skin like some of the drow tend to do. - Why is Clara out and about? - Oh yeah, that part. I guess people care about why I'm here. I mostly just wanted them to know I'm beautiful. (laughing) - Clara is very superficial. - Clara. - Clara, sorry. - One person could call her Clara. Clara is out and about because she would like to be a very strong fighter. She is trying to better herself as a fighter. And one of her weaknesses as a fighter is she tends to plan things out a little too much.

So when she saw Elarath in the ring, just kind of going the fuck at it, she thought that's a good teacher. And she paired up with Elarath and has been learning from her for about the past month or so. - Oh, for those of you who might be new, there was an underground fighting tournament in Winterhaven a couple of years back, which has since become a yearly tradition. Speaking of which though, Zach. - Yes, sir. - Avalon, he's a human, he's a bit dark skinned. He's from Overwatch. But around the time when it was just becoming Overdale, is around the time he kind of left and became his own person.

He found who he really was when he got picked up by a group of drow hunters who taught him how to fight, how to survive on his own. So he did that for a long time. And he didn't know how to talk to people until he ran into Anthony. And ever since then, he's been with her. And since the time skip, he really wants to make the people around him happy. I think that's what's really done it for him as a person, I think, so that's what's keeping him going. He's a little creepy. I'm not sure if anyone was here last season, he had this bear claw that he wore around his neck.

I'm not sure what happened to that. - It rotted. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay. That's fair enough, he doesn't have that anymore. - Okay, I was just, I remember he got it treated eventually, but it's one of those things that just-- - Yeah, it's still a living, it's gonna rot. Him as a person though, over the two years, he's gotten more conscious as a person. Anthony has definitely helped him learn more about how to communicate with others. He's definitely grown appearance wise. He's not as creepy as he once was. So he's done a lot to change in these last two years.

- And Lisa, tell us about Elrath. - Elrath is a halfling. So she is very short and she is a barbarian, which is ridiculous. So she's like this tiny child sized person who rushes headlong into any fight and just punches it in the face if she can, and then asks questions later. (laughs) What she's been working on in the last two years, actually she's been working with Efani as well, 'cause by the end of season, or arc one, she had started to learn how to express herself just by hanging around with her previous group. So the last two years she's been working on that with her current group, and then she's been in the fighting ring, and then they've been going around and just trying to do good and help kind of rebuild and stuff and I believe they were in Lockfort, checking in after they cleared out all the werewolves, just to make sure that everything was rebuilding and kind of getting back up to snuff.

- And it's getting there. - So she's just trying to pitch in and help where she can. - Well guys, here's where we're starting out today. It is the first of YesD, that is the first of the year in Varia. Now we're picking up actually just outside the tiny town of Lockfort, and you guys are currently heading south on your way to Fair Bay. What I'd like to do to kick things off before we go any further, is I would like one of you to roll a flat D20 for me. Now that's gonna kind of set the pace of everything. I would like to know how well your trip is going so far.

This is just to kind of dictate luck on the road type of thing. - I'll do it. - All right. - I believe in you. - Lisa. - You got this. - You got this bro, you got this. You got this, I believe in you, I got this. - It's at least a 15 plus, you got it. - Good, I'm so glad I didn't land on the table. Oh Jesus. Oh, just kidding, you got the exact same number. - Well, now I'm gonna disown you. - I'm not close to kidding you. - But you know what, you know what guys? It's Lisa's fault and not ours, which means I'm good. - Lisa, I called that, you embarrassed me in front of everybody.

- Oh God. - I have nothing to say to that. - That's a four. Everyone out there listening, that's a four. Now that just means that something probably not good is happening. That doesn't even mean that you're gonna pick up on it. It doesn't, it's just something bad is happening. So we're gonna get to that. But first it is the early morning. Now I would imagine you guys set camp at night. You've been on the road now for a little while, but what you're doing is, anyone familiar with the roads of Theria, what you're doing is you're heading from the White Hedge area and you're about a day or so out from Lockfoot.

So is there anything you guys would like to do in camp before you guys get started officially and get on the road? - I think Efani would probably just be doing some writing. She'd probably just be writing about Lockfoot, how the rebuilding work had been going and the people she'd met. She'd probably just be jotting all that down. - Okay. - Kaluna's probably just sort of watching everyone else. You know, that sort of that feeling when you're like new to a friend group and you don't know what you're doing, so you just watch everyone else to figure out what the fuck is going on.

- How long have you guys, just for everybody out there at home, how long has this group been together? How long have you all been on the road so far? - Kaluna just joined up, so. - Right, so like, I think that Efani, Avalon, and Elarath have all been together, you know, the whole time for basically two years now. - Yeah. - And then I just joined up a month ago and then I imagine we picked up Kaluna like a week ago, I'd say. - Whenever y'all were in lock for, like that's when Kaluna would have been like, oh, hey. - Few days. - So, few days. - Yup. - So God, man, okay, so.

- We were like, hey, you're a weird tree thing, come on. - Yeah, that is a thing that needs to be stated. It is not incredibly, it's a pretty rare sight to see a wild out and about. You'll catch them in the Silver Glade every once in a while, like catch glimpses, but to just see them out and about and like walking around, it's-- - It's kind of like seeing Bigfoot. - A little bit, yeah, but like a much less intimidating Bigfoot. - I don't know, Kaluna's pretty pointy. - Can be, yes. (laughs) So again, about a day outside of Lockford, heading south toward Fairbank.

Here's what's gonna be happening. If you guys are packing up and you guys are heading out here in the morning, firstly, it's pretty warm out. For the first day of spring, which is also the first of the year, it's actually pretty, it's kind of almost oppressive, the weather. It's a little humid, it's in the lower 90s. If you're in Celsius, it's in the 30s. But it's not great. When you're walking around in leathers or worse, like chain mail or armor, it sucks, 'cause you need it for protection, but good Lord, is it just stifling and terrible. I personally don't even like to wear a long-sleeve shirt, ever, so I can't imagine wearing layers of stuff that helps you not get stabbed.

Here's the thing, to the east, while you're on the road heading south, to the east, you're going to spot what looks to be a fire. You're gonna see a lot of black smoke, and I would say Kaluna would be able to pick this up more than anybody, but everybody's gonna be able to see what looks to be a cart. It's way off the main road, it's out in this field, but it looks to be ransacked. This cart looks to, something terrible's happened to it, and you're gonna see a fire near it. And if everyone would like to, if you'd like, you could roll Perception to see how much of this you're picking up.

- Oh, I would love to roll this negative one. - I love Perception. - Let me at this shit. - Yeah, bud. - There we go, I'm praying, negative one, woo! - Hey, oh, nice. - But if you're rolling that 20. - Well. - Hell yeah. - JK, I'm actually awesome at this. Thought you guys should know. - Okay. - I like Elorath's three, 'cause it looks like Elorath just owns that shit, like I don't need no fucking nothing. I'm fine, I got this three. - I would say-- - She's probably too busy like scratching her ass or something, she's like, ugh, God. - I got swamp ass from all this energy.

- I would say, ew, gross, I would say-- (laughing) - Clark looks down like, thank you, teacher. - Firstly, I'd say it's unlucky for whoever's downwind of Elorath. - Apparently, I would say that beyond the black smoke and everything, which is pretty noticeable, I'd say with anyone within a couple of miles of this would be able to see that something has gone terribly wrong. Everyone but Elorath is going to pick up that there's a cart, it's turned over, it looks like it was carrying something. Probably goods, probably, it could be for a shop or something like that, it could just be personal use, but this has been turned over and you're gonna see stuff scattered all over.

Everyone but Elorath, and I hate to keep saying this, but just assume. - I don't like that you keep using the word but right before Elorath now, that's the thing that bothers me. - Everyone's sweaty butt Elorath is going to... (laughing) You're gonna see, it looks like an older tiefling near the cart on its knees, and it looks like they're kind of cradling something in their arms, and that's the best you're gonna be able to see from here. - Well, first off, Clara is gonna stick out her arm to kind of get Elorath to stop walking and not touch them. 'Cause ew.

- Could I roll an investigation check? 'Cause that's a fancy new fifth edition roll. - You sure can. I would say you'd have to get a bit closer for it though. - Okay, well, not even about the tiefling, but kind of like the area around like, is this an ambush of some sort, is kind of what she would be looking for. Not so much about the tiefling yet. So could I roll it for that? - Yeah, go ahead. - Awesome, I have a plus one. - 17. - So in this area, there's a lot of stuff being traded back and forth between Esther Holt, Fairbay, Lockfort, White Hedge, that type of thing, especially Lockfort.

Lockfort pretty much gets all their goods and services from trade, they're sort of still rebuilding everything. They have some crops coming in, they have some farmers and stuff, but it's a small town. So a lot of their weapons and armor and stuff, it's all coming from different towns and they barter and get it delivered there. There is actually a small shop in Lockfort that's still waiting on deliveries. They're saying a lot of it's coming from Donhurst, but it's taking them a lot longer than usual, usually from Donhurst, which is to the north. It usually takes them about two weeks to fill an order, something like that.

It's been about three, but that's not necessarily new. So sometimes people get ambushed on the road, that type of thing, it could be something like that. Obviously something's been terribly wrong with the fire is a pretty clear indicator that that wasn't an accident. - Right, all right. Clara will kind of look down to Elarath and then nod towards the cart to get her to pay attention to that. Like she will. - What? Oh. - Well, if it doesn't look like there's an immediate ambush in the area, I guess we could go forward and try to help. Do we know if there's a river anywhere nearby or something like that?

- So to give you a nice clear picture of what you're looking, the road kind of slopes off and this kind of goes into a valley, right? So it's spotted with bushes and trees and things, but there is that clearing where that cart, it looks like maybe they were setting up camp or something like that and they were ambushed. It could have been something large because the cart's knocked over, which is not something bandits or kobolds sometimes set traps and stuff, but that's not something normally that they would do. It's pretty reckless behavior. And it looks like a lot of this stuff is still left there.

So it could just be wildlife and they might've caught a bad rap. - Could I roll to see if Kaluna knows of something that could have done this? - Yeah, are there any tracks around on the ground that we can investigate? - Again, you'd have to get close for that. You're probably about, I don't know, like a half a mile away, something like that. - All right, Evelyn will walk up to Clara and say, do you want to get closer? I think this area is safe. - She'll kind of scan one more time just to be like extra careful and then kind of nod. And does the whole group want to come like to help or should just me and Avalon, who wants to go?

- Kaluna is concerned about the fire. So they will definitely go. - Yeah, I agree. - I'm worried about what sort of wildlife can start a fire. I can only think of one thing and I don't want to fight that thing. - Maybe the tiefling got hit and he went. - Was that, he farted and started a fire? - That was meant to be how tieflings can like ignite shit or at least they used to. - Oh, racism. - Oh yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah, exactly. - He got scared, sneezed and did that tiefling magic shit and set everything on fire. - Well, okay, just to be absolutely clear, is it the group approaching or are some people staying behind?

- I think we're all going. - I think it's everyone. - Approaching the tiefling, everyone's gonna sort of, first of all, he is openly weeping. - What's that? - Oh no. - Yeah, he appears to be clutching another person. - No. - Oh fuck. - In his arms. - The fire is definitely, that was set by something and it appears as though this might be, this might have been something to send a message or just punishment, something like that because a lot of these goods are still kind of sprinkled about the ground here. It looks like the cart was just tipped over and then a bunch of stuff spilled out of it and the tiefling does not even notice you and it appears as though the person he is clutching is covered in blood and not moving.

- Can Kaluna kind of, fuck. Can Kaluna kind of very slowly approach and crouch down next to him? - Yeah, if you like. - Yeah, Kaluna will sort of do that and sort of very, very slowly sort of touch his shoulder and immediately draw their hand back in case it freaks him out. - Approaching this guy, just again, openly weeping, not looking at you whatsoever. He is going to, he's gonna react very startled as soon as you touch him and just kind of, and look at Kaluna. - Uh, Kaluna's going to sort of reach, not like immediately like grab at, but they're gonna sort of slowly reach toward the person in his arms and just sort of say, can we see if there's anything we can do?

- He, again, tears just streaming down his face, just kind of sniffle. I think she's dead. And he's going to, not offer, but just kind of, she was kind of buried in his chest and he's going to pull back. And it is a human woman, again, coated in blood, kind of wearing loose fitting robes, blonde hair, long, and just absolutely limp. - Well, Kaluna is not one to fucking give up. So they're gonna see if she's even a little bit alive, which is a weird phrase to say. - Right. - What do I need to do? Tell me what I got to roll, Jason. - The way this is, is you guys are kind of surrounded by trees and bushes, like I said, and they're, the guy is just, he looks utterly defeated.

Doesn't give a shit about the cart or whatever. Doesn't appear to even be kind of paying attention to that. And he's going to perk up just a little bit. You're a healer? - Kaluna's gonna give him a smile with those scary sharp teeth. And they're gonna say, yep, that's too cheery, but that's Kaluna. - Right. - I'm gonna own it. We're gonna stick with it. - Here's the thing, that cheeriness is gonna be an indication to him. It's like, don't worry, I got this. Everything's fine. He is going to just- - Fake it till you make it. - He is going to sort of brighten up and try to very gently place her on the ground.

And the entire area is sort of littered with tall grass and thick straw, that type of thing. And he's just gonna kind of lay her down very gently, proper, like he's got this folded up piece of cloth. He's gonna prop under her head. And he is going to look both expectantly and very optimistically at Kaluna. If there's anything you could do, please, just please, if you could do anything to save her. - Kaluna's gonna do anything and everything they can, but like as they're getting situated to sort of do their shit, they're gonna sort of call over their shoulder.

Someone put out the fire, please. And they're gonna do their shit. - Okay, who would like to go try to deal with this fire? - Elorath would. - All right. - Smack that fire into submission. - Well, she has a penchant for trying to save people and things from fire. - Well, going over to this area, it's behind the cart. It's not the cart that's on fire. It is an area, it looks like a pile of possessions that have been set on fire. And that's next to the dead horse that was pulling this cart. The horse's throat looks like it's been slit. - Unnecessary. - That's, here's the thing.

Whatever did this, it doesn't look like it was wildlife at this point. And that is, it is a very pointed move to not even try to use a horse, but to kill it instead. So as Elorath is going over to this fire, could you do me a favor, Elorath, and roll a dex saving throw? - Oh, I think I get a bonus on that. - Okay. - Okay, I do get it. I have advantage on dexterity saving throws. - Oh, that's great. So what you do is you hit that little advantage button down at the bottom of the screen and you roll that dex saving throw. And good luck to you. - Oh, okay. Dexterity.

Oh, great. - Oh boy. - Yep, the other one was a nat one though. - That's, okay. So on her way over to this fire, you gotta traipse through this tall grass and everything and you're gonna hear a sound. It is a metallic lurch. And it is the sound of a mechanism. And then a set of jaws are going to slam around Elorath's ankle. - A bear trap? - A bear trap. - Rude. Fuck. - Okay. - Three damage to Elorath off the bat. Now. - Okay. - This, the tiefling gentleman is still looking at Kaluna. Just please say, Kaluna, I would like one, you are going to hear this bear trap go off and I would imagine you're going to hear probably just a flurry of colorful language.

- Yes. - Okay. I didn't wanna, I didn't wanna put words in your mouth. So good Lord. So that's a problem right off the bat. So bear trap goes off, just slams around Elorath's ankle, three damage to Elorath. So there is going to be some, there's going to be a little like a blood and just a lot of pain. And you're also going to be sort of chained to the spare trap. You are, you are stationary. - Yep. - What would Kaluna, what would the rest of the party's reaction be to this firstly? - Clara is going to immediately take out her weapons. - Kaluna is going to do the same shit.

- Applin is going to run to Elorath. As soon as he hears the bear trap and he realizes what's going on, he's going to try to run to Elorath and try to pry the trap off of her. - Okay. - Ef and he'll stay with Kaluna. She doesn't want to leave Kaluna on their own. - All right. Here's what's going to happen. Now this, where the bear trap went off is only a couple of dozen feet away from where Kaluna is, right? So tops about 30 feet somewhere in there. So you're not too far away. That's the good news. The bad news is you are going to start to see figures emerge from bushes.

- Oh. - Applin is? - I would say pretty much everyone except for Elorath. - Who is now focused on her ankle and not ass sweat. - Probably, yeah. - Well now you've just got two problems. - I do. - So four figures, all said and done are going to emerge. A couple of smaller individuals, they look to be human, kind of skeevy looking leather armor and two very large mole individuals. For those of you who don't know, moles are a cross between dwarves and humans and they are usually bred out of slavery. They're bred because they have a strong resistance to poisons and things like that and they're just very hardy individuals and they can do a lot of manual labor.

Now they're going to, they kind of have you flanked on two sides here and they're going to close and start to try and close in around Elorath. Interestingly enough, the tiefling gentleman has not broken stride in wanting Kaluna to try and heal this woman. - Hmm. - Kaluna is going to sort of glance back very quickly at that situation and then they're going to sort of lunge at the guy with their knife. - The tiefling? - Yes. - Oh, okay. - Not like stabbing him, but just sort of like pin him down, put the knife to his throat. - Okay. Here's what we're gonna do.

I'm going to get you guys a map. - Yay. - Thank you, I love maps. - Yeah, I appreciate that. - I'm really glad because we're going to need it. All right, so here's the setting. Elorath has a bear trap around her ankle. That is not a great place to start. Abilene is going over there to assist, trying to get this off. Couple of slavers are sort of closing in on that area. Klara is kind of stuck in the middle between those two and Kaluna and Efini. Now Kaluna is holding a knife to the elderly tiefling's throat and a couple of slavers are moving towards them. So here's what we're going to do.

Boop Kaluna, your turn. - Okay. - Please don't kill the tiefling yet. - Yeah, I'm not killing him right away. That's not how you do things. - Just checking. You jumped on top of him real fast. - I'm just going to cut him a little. - Yeah, just a little. Just to get me going. - See what his blood looks like, that's all. - So pretty. So first thing that Kaluna's going to do. They don't have to pull the knife away from him to do other things, right? - No, no, you're fine. - Okay, cool. We're going to use an entangle, my dude. We're going to throw it over on the other side of Efini so these nerds can't get...

Let me read the spell real quick. - So Kaluna's going to cast this and sort of brambles, things like that are going to try to intertwine with their legs. - Just to wrap around them. - Yeah, the mole thug is going to, it's going to fail. So mole thug number two is going to, these things are going to wrap around his legs and it's going to kind of restrain him and make it very difficult. The slaver on the other hand is going to be able to pull free and it will not affect him. - And let me just let everyone know what restrained means. A restrained creature's speed becomes zero.

Attack rolls against them have advantage. And if the creature attacks, they have disadvantage and they have disadvantage on dexterity saving throws. Just so everyone knows. So Kaluna's going to cast that shit and they're going to turn back to the tiefling dude and they're going to say, call him off. Cause we're just going to assume, we're going to assume that he's affiliated with them somehow. - Okay. - And that's my turn. - Okay. - Go for that lucky guess. - This elderly tiefling is going to look horrendously confused and frightened at all of this. Clara, your turn.

- All right. Clara's going to look over to Elarath and Avalon. And I think that she knows well enough that like, okay, they're both pretty hardy. They'll probably be fine. Gonna go help the tree and the small friend. Then I'm going to throw a hand ax at Slaver 2. - Good Lord. Okay. - So that is a plus four whiff. - Ooh, that is gonna miss. - Can I throw my other hand ax at him? Maybe a little less whiffy. - Hopefully yes. So to describe this off the bat, Clara's gonna kind of race up, run up, and just throw one of these hand axes. It's gonna go wide, strike a tree behind the Slaver.

So do you want to try it one more time? - Yeah, I'll try another one and hopefully. So the first one, she went vertically, which is a mistake. She's gonna go horizontally now. It's like doing an under throw to an over throw. Yeah, that's what it is. Hey. - That will hit. - Sweet. All right. So that's gonna do one D6 plus two slashing. Now this isn't a guaranteed every single time thing but the Fumble die did come up a five which means we roll on the, on the table. The, the table does it automatically for us. He rolled a 12. This poor, poor Slaver is going to run up and trip and he's going to pull off something called a suicide strike.

He is going to critically hit himself. - Yes. - Yes. - And stab himself. - Can he land face first in the bear trap? Just. - Well, I don't think Avalon actually took the time to reset the bear trap so much as just get it off of that. - He was a pretty good hunter in his hay day. - Maybe, I, so here's what's going to happen. This man, this schmuck, this, so let's take that off of Elorath and have the Slaver target himself. And he is going to fall on his own sword essentially, right? So he is going to. - Wasted by his own petard. - Jesus, so that is a crit on himself.

He's going to do four damage to himself and look really stupid. Just, he's going to trip on his mole buddy and just like, oh, and it's, you ever get that, that sense of one shock, he's going to look at Elorath and say, oh, just stab himself. - I swear to God, this never happens. - This is so embarrassing. - I don't know what happened. - I'll get you next time. - Question. - Yes. - Does that mean he's also prone because he fell? - He didn't, like he just kind of tripped and fell forward. - Just trying to stumble. - Oh, he stumbled, okay. - Yeah, just stumbled and fell forward and stabbed himself.

But he is going to move forward here. And though that is difficult terrain, he is going to get to Klara and he is going to swing with his scimitar and miss as well. I think I'm done. - Wowza. By the way, this older tiefling gentleman is going to try to pull back from the knife just a bit. Just kind of like wriggle backward. Just pure shock, just this utter chaos. And he is trying to pull away.

- Oh, Kaluna ain't letting him get anywhere. - He is going, hmm. He is going to make a strength check to see if he can get, just kind of like push. Wow. - Wow. - The fuck? - He is going to roll a crit. He is so scared, adrenaline's just pumping and he's going to kind of shove Kaluna back. And he is going to crawl backwards on his, his Cantonese, kind of do that little crab walk. Like you were in like, like grade school gym class, just like. And he is going to move back 10 feet. - Kaluna's gonna sort of- - Is he also a giant spider? - No, he is not a giant spider.

- Okay, just checking. - Kaluna's gonna sort of, like if they had been expecting it, they would have snarled at him, but because they weren't, they're just kind of gonna shout like, hey. (laughing) - You just pushed me. - I was doing a thing. - I was being a bad-ass, how dare you? - Kalara. - I'm wondering, I don't think any of these moles have landed hits yet, which makes me hesitant to approach the mole that's left and get within like punching range, but fuck it. Mole thug number two. So I am going to attack twice. So what's going to happen is, let's role play, shall we?

Kalara is going to have her weapons drawn again and just be staring at this slaver in front of her like, oh, I'm gonna fucking take you down. I'm gonna take you down. And then a whip comes out of nowhere, snaps his neck and she just like glances down and blinks a few times like, oh, okay. And then just goes for the other one. So she is going to attack once with her short sword and then again with her sickle. Short sword. - Ooh, that will hit. - Okay, so there's the damage from the short sword. - That is eight damage. - Damn. - Wow. - That's the highest damage I can do with that.

- So that is going to slice into this mole and he is going to react by just gritting his teeth and grumbling. - And then I'm going to use my sickle. - That's gonna miss. - Though I did just remember something. Wait, no, I think disengaging still gets me an opportunity to attack 'cause I could split my action, right? Like I can split my move. - Disengage is an action. You don't get to attack if you do that. - Okay, fair enough. All right. Gotta learn these things. - Yep. - I'll just, I'll take it on the shin. So come at me, bro. - Avalon, your turn. - Listen, Avalon is going to, he's gonna look forward 'cause where he's at right now? He's, he sees this old tiefling dude crawling away on his hands and knees and Kalu is screaming, "Hey!" He's like, "What?" And he turns around and sees Alarath being ganged up on. So he's like, and he just says to himself, he mutters just like, "Oh, fuck it all." And he pulls out his longsword that has no scabbard at all. He just has it. It's almost like he found it somewhere. And he's gonna pull it out. He's gonna walk near Alarath over here.

- Okay. - And he's going to try to bring the longsword down on a slaver one's head. - Okay. Holy crap. That is eight damage. - Damn. - That's going to kill the slaver. - Yes. Nice. No more advantage for you, motherfucker. - So here's what's gonna happen. The, okay, the slaver and the mole are standing next to Alarath and they're concentrating on her and they're just trying to beat her down. Avalon walks up, swings downward with this longsword and it is going to embed itself into the skull of the slaver. - Yes, sir. - And his eyes are gonna go wide, blood driveling down and just, just that, boy, it's tough to describe what that looks like, but the light dying in someone's eyes as all fight is just drained away from them.

They drop their weapon and their arms just go to the side, but he's being held up by this longsword. - Oh, thank you. - It's wedged into his skull. And Avalon is just looking at him while he's losing the life. - Wow. - Yeah. He's still Avalon. - I love Avalon. Can I, is this a good time to say that? (laughing) - Alarath, your turn. - She's going to see Avalon do that and just like give him like a ferocious grin, just like, fuck yeah. And then she's gonna turn to mole thug number one and swing again with her flail. - Ooh. - Yeah. - That's gonna hit. - Nice. - Fuck yeah.

All right, damage. - Good Lord, you guys are rolling high today. Seven damage to mole thug. - We're in the zone. - And that will be her turn. - So you're gonna hit this mole and it's gonna make a noise, just kind of a, ugh, that, as it's trying to scream. And you're gonna notice it has no tongue. - Oh no. Don't make me feel bad for him. - Oh, they cut it out because he was a slave. - Efenny. - Did I help? (laughing) - Yeah, thanks. - Thanks for that. Efenny is going to, she's looking at the dagger in her hand. That worked really well last time, but she doesn't want to risk.

Accidentally hitting Clara. So she's just gonna try hurling an insult instead. Screams, vicious, mockery on. - The mole thug is actually gonna succeed. This is gonna have no effect. - Darn, so instead of saying something cool, she probably just goes, "Yeah, yeah, fuck you." (laughing) - You're a loser, and I know. I think I'm here. - And just for a moment, he's gonna go, "Ooh." And then he's going to- - Okay, I want to, can we just establish now that if you ever crit miss on vicious mockery, you accidentally compliment the person? - Kaluna. - So Kaluna's gonna kind of still glaring down at the tiefling guy, gonna look over and see Clara getting hit and they're gonna look back, sort of point at him, "Don't move." And they're gonna go and help. Let me just, let me just do, I unselected my, there we go. - There we are. - I didn't actually, oh, you know what? - Okay, uh huh. - I'm just gonna fable at myself. So the slavers went down really quick while their mole friends probably should have been up front, probably should have jumped up front or they should have led the charge because this guy is taking a lot of damage, like just multiple cuts and slices, he's bleeding from different places, but he does not seem to want to stop.

Avalon. - Avalon's going to, he's going to kind of like in an intimidating fashion, circle around this guy since he's alone now. And like, you know how like school bullies like kind of like circle around their like people and is that cool? All right, then he'll kind of just walk around him and kind of like get face to face with them and then he's going to raise his long sword and he's going to say, what a waste of a life. And he's going to bring it down. - Ah, that'll hit. - Oh, okay. Sweet. - Another seven damage. This, okay, this place is going to come down and lodge itself right in his collarbone, like right in that region.

So right, that just, and he's going to make another. - You know what, I think, where is it? Where is it? I think Avalon's going to start laughing 'cause he's doing well, so he's enjoying it. He's going to action surge and come down on him again in the same manner. Just like just someone who is really enjoying what they're doing right now, just hacking into him. - That will hit another seven damage. So he's just cutting just wildly. - So I'd imagine there's a bit of effort as Avalon pulls the long sword out and makes another kind of chop. - Well, like after the first hit connects, after he realized it connects, he kind of changes a little bit where he gets louder and he starts laughing boisterously, which is something he didn't do before.

He's kind of changed in that manner. And yeah, he's just going to town and that's the end of his turn. - Good Lord. Elorath. - I think she's just gonna like side eye Avalon for a second at that laughter. And then I think she's going to try to kind of shift so that she's behind the slaver so that he's directly in between the two. And she's going to try to kind of bring her flail like up and around and maybe try to hit him in the back of the head. - Oh God, do me a favor, make that attack roll with advantage. - Oh, okay. Thank God. - That first one was a two.

- It was. - That will hit. - All right. You serious? - Two damage to the... - It like clipped the back of the side of his head. - You hit his metal plate. - He has a non-injury. - It's like one of the Uruks in the shadows of Mordor. He's got a metal plate there. - Damn it. - Anything else? - That's really neat. No, I think that's it. I think that's all she can do. - All right. Efini, your turn. - Okay, just gonna move forward a little bit and she's gonna try to king the dagger at the mole again. She's gonna aim for his chest. - You have one dagger. - You threw it already.

- Oh, so I did, damn. - Yeah, I threw both of my hand axes right at the beginning. It's like, well. - Yeah. - You can have it back after he's dead. - Yeah, you gotta go get it. That's the problem. - Yeah. - You can have it back after class. - Well, I want it now. Okay, so she will move right up to him then and pull her rapier out and try and stop him with that. He is going to stop paying attention to Eloraf and he is going to pay attention to Avalon because Avalon just did 14 damage to him and that's a lot of damage.

AC is not that high. - Mole thug number two is going to take, oh, you know what? Effie made a spectacle. Effie made a spectacle of herself and reacting to that. Just the charging up with the rapier and taking a swing. He's going to almost reflexively start swatting Effie with this mace. Just it's like, just trying to get it away. And that's going to hit and the sequel is going to hit. So four damage followed by six damage. 10 damage to Effie.

Holy shit. - Hey Mac, do you have a heel? Does the healer have a heel? That sounds outrageous. I don't know why. - It's a tiny little thing that ran up with a rapier and just tried to take on a mole. - Kaluna's going to watch this happen. And then going to shout, what the fuck are you doing? And that's going to be their healing word. - Suddenly I feel better. - Well that was a good heal too. - That was good. - Yeah, and that was a bonus action. So Kaluna is going to look back over to the tiefling. He hasn't tried to pull any shit, has he? - He's terrified. - Okay, so Kaluna is going to just assume that their friends got this.

And is the possibly dead lady still right there? - Oh yes. - Kaluna is going to work on that, fixing that problem. Do me a favor and roll a medicine check. - This is going to go poorly, I feel like. - Hey, middle of the road. - Yep, I'll take it. - Kaluna is going to focus back on what was the task at hand several, several seconds ago. And sort of check this lady out. It appears as though she is stone cold dead. - Super duper dead, yeah. - Yeah, dead, dead, dead. It would take some pretty big mojo to even attempt to bring her back. - Kaluna is going to look just incredibly frustrated.

Just like, kind of like just at themself, just like motherfucker, I was wrong and now this person's dead. - Good job Kaluna, way to go, you ass. That's my turn. - Clara? - I think I'll attack this mole or whatever. - Okay. - Short sword. - That'll hit, nice. - Yay, it's going to do that. Three damage. - Three all damage to that mole. - And then sickle. - That'll hit. - And six damage. - Damn, that's the most damage I can do with that thing. It's tiny and small. And you know what, you hurt my friend and that bothers me a lot. So I think I'm going to use that action surge.

- Yeah. - Yeah. - You can take one additional action on top of your regular action and a possible bonus action. Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again. So that's all. There's no way to check it off, that bothers me. I'll just have to keep it in my head. I'll use my short sword because... - That will hit. - Hell yeah, and then that. Seven. - Holy shit. So you are going to spin around with this weapon and it is going to catch this mole in the throat. - Yes. - And blood is just going to pour. You're going to catch in order, it just opens up.

And the mole is going to reach up, drop its weapon, reach up and try to grab for its own throat. And just a look of like shock and panic. And after you watch the blood just like spill out from between its own fingers, he is going to stop after a few moments and then fall forward, dead on the ground. - Okay, I'll step back a little bit so he doesn't fall on me. That'd be icky. - Aveline, your turn. - Quick question, did Aveline see or hear or knows Anthony was harmed in any way just now? Was he close enough for that or you think he was too far to realize that happened?

- It's probably, unless she let out a real distant scream or something, I would say you're kind of far away to have just noticed that you'd probably have your back. - Yeah, I agree, fair enough. Then Aveline is going to focus on the slaver in front of him and go for another overhand swing. - Okay. - Very, very wild and sloppy. Bad word choice, my bad. (laughing) - You don't like it sloppy? - I like it more wild than sloppy, you know, like a good ratio. (laughing) - Uh oh. - That's gonna hit. This is going to, it's gonna catch it in the face and just sort of drive into its skull just a bit. And again, just a momentary shock and then falls down dead. - Is he gonna have to like kind of pull it out 'cause it's like stuck in his cranium? - I would imagine it's-- - Step on the body and like. - Yeah, it's probably one of those deals where especially the mole, it's a little bigger, a little tougher and it's just gonna sort of drag his sword arm down with him as the mole falls.

- Every time this happens, he just kicks him off the blade. - I love him. - Just fuck off. - That's gonna take you guys out of combat. - Clara's going to, Clara, I gotta say it right too. Clara is going to immediately like kind of lean down to Effney and check her out to make sure she's like not seriously injured. And she's gonna ask, are you all right? Effney's kind of still catching her breath a little bit and she kind of looks down, checks herself out as well and kind of then looks up at Clara and nods and then she's just gonna immediately hold her fist out to her fist bump and say, nice fighting.

- I think Avalon is going to like walk straight up to Elrath and not say anything to her. He's just mumbling to himself and he's just like mumbling these little things. Like he's like, you can't understand what he's saying. He's mumbling and he kneels down to Elrath and he pulls out some bandages. And then could I make a medicine check to just a bend up her leg from the bear trap? 'Cause it's probably bleeding. - Kelina is going to look up from Lady and look over at the tiefling dude and just, they look angry, but they're just gonna stare at him for a minute and then they're going to just sort of drag themselves up to their feet and go to put out the fire.

- Okay, he is going to, he's gonna sort of react. Do you know that it's a very braced position? Like, are you gonna attack me? Like that type of thing. Almost like a wild animal would be like, like sitting still, like if I don't move, you can't see me, that type of thing. Just for a second. - I am a T-Rex. - Yeah. (laughing) But yeah, after this fight, like it just, he's just not understanding this. So yeah, he's gonna relax just a little bit when it looks like Kelina's not gonna attack him. - Again. - Again. Well, you didn't attack him, just threatened to.

- Clara is probably going to not, there is no like emotion on her face, like ha ha or anything like that, but she is going to check all the bodies for anything fun. Like, you know, money. - Money's fun. - You know, check the weapons to see if they're cool. They probably aren't anything just 'cause they're just bandits, but you know, she's pragmatic and we gotta have food and stuff. - Well, a lot of these guys are carrying pretty basic weapons, right? It's the moles are we're carrying these large, like maces, just blunt instruments. Nothing too fancy, nothing incredibly, they're not worth anything really.

You are gonna find five gold all said and done. - Okay, I think at that point, she'd probably walk over the tiefling and quietly hand it to him and say, you're going to have to use this to bury your friend. - He's again, just a little bit, still a little bit on edge. This has been a very trying day and eventually he's gonna hold out his hand and take the money, but still not just, thank you. - Are you all right? - We were camping. They just came out of nowhere. I didn't see them. And he's kind of staring off into the middle distance. - She's going to nod and try to kind of make eye contact to try to keep him in the moment.

Where were you headed? - White hedge, we were headed into White hedge. - So what's the distance between where we're currently at and White hedge and where we're, sorry, I hit my mic. What's the difference between where we're currently at and White hedge versus where we are currently at and Fair Bay? - You are much closer to Fair Bay than you are White hedge. White hedge would probably be, depending on how fast they were going, probably nine, 10 days on the road. - Okay, so she's going to put her hand on his shoulder and say, you're going to come back with us to Fair Bay.

And I think mostly it's shock. - Body, like I don't want to make him walk 10 days with a body slung over his shoulders. That thing's gonna smell. - Right.

- So she's going to kind of motion to the cart and then to the woman on the ground saying, you're not going to be able to bring her with you right now. - He is staring, he's staring at her the entire time. I should bury her. - Claire will kind of take a deep breath. Like I was hoping that giving you the money would pay for that and we just, but okay. We'll help you. Are there shovels? What do we do? - He's not, okay, here's the- - He's not thinking. - Right, he's just kind of out of it, but that's you saying I will help you. He's going to kind of snap out of it for just a minute.

No, I couldn't ask you to do that. I have shovels. I can do this. If you could help me, if you could help me get the cart back on its wheels, that would be very helpful though. - She'll nod, all right. And then she'll stand up and offer him a hand. - He'll take it and stand up. - And then she'll call out to, I assume Elarath and Avalon would be the two to call out to and just be like, Elarath, Avalon, want to help me turn over the cart? - Yeah, give me a second. Patching up my ankle here. Yeah, Avalon was with Elarath, very distracted trying to help her bandage her ankle.

So when you call over to them, I'm guessing, well, Avalon turns and he, once they're all done patching her up, he's going to go over and help. - Yeah, Elarath will too. - Let me describe the situation here because you're in a, this poor dude. It's going to take you another five days or so to get to Fair Bay. This is a, like I said, if they were traveling by cart and fast with horses, it would still take them days and days to get to Whitehead. It would take another day or so to get back to Lockford. That would be the closest, but you can't carry the body.

The best you could do is have some sort of makeshift sling or something. If you were trying to get into a city with a graveyard, otherwise you are burying this body on the road. And lots of people have done stuff like that. So getting to, getting to Fair Bay isn't really something, the body's not going to be in good shape by the time you get to Fair Bay. Kind of cooking in the sun and all that, even if you cover it, it's just, yeah. - And it's pretty obvious to all of us, like. - Yeah, you know the, I would say, I would say the group knows the travel times to get to towns.

- So Clara will look over at the T-Flane and ask, what's your name? - It's Errol, and he's going to hold out his hand to shake. - She'll give a small smile and I'm Clara. Over there is Eloraf and Avalon and Efthony and Kaluna. And she's just going to gesture to everybody in the party. - Tiredly. - Evelyn. - Evelyn nods. - And he'll nod back. - I can't thank you all enough for helping. There's not a lot of people who would have stopped, to be honest. - Who was she to you? - I grew up with her. We were heading back to White Hedge. I was visiting family and she was, she was just along for the ride.

She, she didn't feel like staying behind. - And her name? - And he's gonna look back down. Again, it's like a thousand yard stare. Could you just, I'm really sorry. I don't want to take up any more of your time. And you could tell he's kind of breaking up just a little bit. - Right. She'll just nod and pat him on the back and head over to the cart for once Eloraf is feeling better. Turning it over. - You guys want to give this a shot? - Oh God, yes. - So here's what we're gonna do. This is obviously a heavy cart. So what I'm gonna ask everybody to do is give me a raw strength check and you are all gonna pitch in for a collective DC.

- Okay. - Let's do it. - Now, the collective DC is 25, which is really, really difficult. One person probably could not do this, but because you're all working together, this should be much less difficult. - Maybe. - All right. - So basically the higher you roll, the more weight you pour, like the more... - Basically, oh yeah. Oh wow. - Oh no. - Oh no. - Oh God, it's so heavy. - Eppany, don't get under the wheel. - Eppany, what do you mean? Stop it Eppany. - I just go over to the Eppany side, try to pull with her and was like, oh God. - Meanwhile, Kaluna. - Off the side Kaluna's just kicking dirt on fire.

- Eppany's too does get us over the limit. So Eppany came over and helped us out. - Could we have it to where Eppany was like, he was getting ready, he was like putting spit on his hands, rubbing it together and he lifts it up and he's just struggling. He can't lift it up and Eppany comes behind him and she's just like the last straw to lift it. So it looks like she just came on him, like kind of like he needed help with lifting weights. All right buddy. - Can I get up for you? - Yeah, spot me. - I like the way that he's spotting. - Can you go home? - Yes.

- It was first a 16 and Jason was like, yeah, you guys got this and then everyone else rolled and it was a five, two and a three. - Five, two and a three. Again. - Her ankle hurts. It's really hard to lift from the legs when your ankle is hurt. - That does get you over it, but man is it close. - Yeah. - Thank God for Eppany. - Bare minimum. - So this is going to lurch over. It's gonna be a struggle, but you guys are gonna get underneath of it and it is going to slam on all four wheels and rock back and forth, almost like it's gonna tip over the other way just for a second and then right itself.

All the possessions inside are very much just jostled and thrown around. So this guy's got his work cut out for him, but like everything is still, nothing was stolen. That's the thing. Nothing had a chance. It looks like it happened here. Nothing had a chance to be stolen because you guys arrived in like mid robbery. This was one of those things where they probably saw you coming, probably hid behind some bushes and tried to get the jump on you as you came in. It was just bad timing all the way around. So Errol is going to eventually snap out of it and move over to the cart again.

- It's Hannah. I'm sorry. I'm just trying to deal with, I'm just trying to deal with all this. - Clara will just nod. It's fine. Are you sure you'll be all right on your own? - Yeah. Not that far out of Lockford. I can get some help there and I can get to White Hedge after that. - I can not. Thank you so much for all of your help. - Kalluna will walk over, sort of sullen and probably still covered in blood from trying to help. And they're kind of looking at his shoes. - You want his shoes? - Yes. They're going to steal his shoes. He hasn't lost enough today. No, they're just kind of looking at his shoes instead of his face.

And they'll just sort of mutter, do you want us to say something? And kind of glance over at the body. - He's going to look at Kalluna, almost like he's sorry. Like, I'm guessing you think so. I'm guessing you thought I was with them. You don't have to apologize. You were just being careful. - Kalluna will finally look at his face and they'll give him just, it doesn't really count as a smile. It's more of a grimace, but they're trying. - If you're ever up in White Hedge and you need a place to stay, stay with me and my family and we'll just call the whole thing even.

And he's trying to chuckle at all. He's trying to like, look, this is not your problem. I really appreciate it. But so he's going to hold out his hand after that. - Kalluna will shake it and they'll sort of hold up their other arm. Not like, it's sort of like, do you want a hug? Not going to force it on you, but if you want one, it's here. - Do me a favor, this is going to sound weird. - Oh no. - Roll a diplomacy check. - Oh no. (all laughing) - For those of you at home, Kalluna has a negative one modifier to their charisma and they rolled a one. - I imagine you gave them a really weird smile. Like it showed off every sharp tooth in your mouth. Like. - I think it's more about the knife thing, but you know. - Well, your teeth are also knives. - They are. - Here's what's going to happen. Remember how I said he was trying to just, he's trying to chuckle it off. He's trying, like, he's just like, it's not your problem. You can clearly tell partway through your sentence to him that he's trying to get you guys out of there and away from him and partway through your sentence, he is going to just, he's going to break down and start sobbing openly.

- Oh no, that wasn't funny. I thought it'd be funny. - I thought he was going to run away or something. This is where he's- - Maybe pee. - Yeah, I know everyone's uncomfortable. - Yeah, Evelyn's looking around like, oh, sorry guys. Oh no, I was saying, Evelyn's looking around very confused. Like what just happened? Cementa's just openly crying now. - And he is going to lurch forward and wrap his arms around Colonna and just start just openly weeping. - Yeah, Colonna's a hugger. So they're just going to hug him tight back and just sort of pat his back and just- - They're there.

- Yeah, very much just like, yeah, it's okay. Let it out, dude, let it out. - While this is happening, at first Clara looks super uncomfortable 'cause this was the thing she was actively trying to avoid by trying to make him focus. - Right. - That was exactly what she was trying to avoid was, hey, hey, where are you going? All right, we're going to do this, right? We're going to fix it. And that was to make him not do what he's now doing. So she's going to gesture to Evelyn and then to the body on the ground and then to the cart. Like, can we please stay busy?

Because I don't, I can't. Can you help me with this body so that we can get it in the cart so I don't have to watch this man sob? - When you motion to the body, it's kind of like, so you know when someone's head just, they want an out of something. So they're like, you want to go out with me? Like just out of this situation? You know what I mean? Like, like- - Yeah. - Yeah, so he's like, yes, yes, let's do this. - They've never related to each other more than in this moment. - Yes, this is uncomfortable. Get me out of here. - So that's what we'll do while you're dealing with that, Kaluna.

Get it over with? I mean, the longer we hold onto it, the more he's gonna cry. - She'll nod and just, let's put it in the cart so that it's out of the sun and we'll start digging holes. - Right. - And she's just gonna let herself into the cart so that she can grab those shovels and just, he's busy, it's fine.

- Well, minutes are gonna pass. And eventually he's gonna get ahold of himself and stop. And sort of wipe his face and get his composure. And he's gonna apologize to Kaluna. - Oh, Kaluna will immediately like wave him off. - And he's gonna nod. Again, thank you all, but I need to, I need to take care of this and get back on the road. And kind of avoiding eye contact, a little embarrassed, but at the same time just so devastated that he doesn't care all that much. - Yeah, Kaluna will just sort of pat his shoulder and turn back to everyone else and finally checking on what they're doing.

- I'm not sure if we were able to get started with the digging or not in that time. - I'd say you get started, yeah. - All right, so we'll leave him a nice hole to work with. - Yeah. - Like we won't finish, but we'll start. - And at the very least, you guys saved a life today. - Fair. - True, yeah. - 'Cause those slavers were not gonna treat an elderly tiefling very kind. They probably at best, they would have left him with nothing in the hot sun and worse, they would have killed him 'cause an elderly tiefling isn't gonna be much use as a slave. - That makes it worse that he's like this little old man just crying.

- How old is Hannah? Do they look the same age or? - Not quite the same age. - So much worse. - Yeah, Hannah was probably, look like Hannah at her oldest was probably in her early 40s. - Oh. - Bueno. - Yeah, Caluna will like, stand, is the body in the cart? - Yeah. - Okay, yeah, so Caluna will sort of stand outside the cart and will just sort of mutter something in Elvin and then they'll look back at Errol and then decide that they've bothered him enough and just follow everyone else. - All right, I'd like to say if there was anything in the cart to be found, like a blanket or something, she'd probably use that to cover Hannah back when we were doing that. - Yeah. - Also, I feel like we were doing stuff during most of that, but could I also roll a hit die?

That wasn't really a rest, was it? - I would say you guys, I mean, digging, no, not a rest, but maybe like in the interim, like you guys pull yourselves aside and probably take an hour or so to get yourselves together, get a drink, that type of thing, and then get back on the road. So go ahead. - Am I okay to use a hit die too? - Sure. - Please. - Cora wants to talk to Ephany at some point. - No. - Oh. - That's all you needed. - Oh my God. - That is not all she needed. - According, no, she got, yes she did 'cause she got healed during the battle. - Yeah. - She had three wounds.

- Yeah. - You have a healer, how dare you? - Insulted. - Sorry. - I'm not sure if that's something Avalon would rather have a conversation with Ephany about, but someone needs to have a conversation with Ephany about running into battle rapier first. I know that's something. - The problem is, Avalon didn't see it. - Oh yeah. - That's why specifically I was like, was Avalon close enough to that? And he wasn't, and he was kind of distracted per se. So he didn't really- - Aquara did, and she's going to talk, she's going to have words. Very stern motherly words.

- It's gonna be one of those things though, like, it's gonna be one of those things like, since you saw, I just like, ooh, wait till I tell dad. - I could do that too. Do I know that about your, I've only been with you guys for like a month. Do I know that about your dynamic, that you two are like super close and all that? - Probably because I just, I kind of follow her around still. It's just like, what Avalon feels comfortable with, especially in big cities. So that's kind of what he does. - All right, she might just tattle then, and then you can wait until your daddy gets home.

- Mitch. - So back on the road, you guys are going to continue into the night, and then the sun is eventually going to set in the sky, and it is probably time for you guys to rest up for the evening. The rest of the day is just walking, and not too incredibly interesting. You're gonna pass some, you know, there'll be some other new groups just like on the road, heading in the opposite direction, and just standard walking on the main road type stuff. And I'm gonna go ahead, and unless there's something you'd like to do, we're just gonna start advancing through time.

- Can I make it canon that at some point, Clara did just tell like Avalon, like, "Hey, you need to talk to Efni," 'cause she ran straight into a fight. I just want to make sure that was said. Okay, that's all, I don't even need, we don't even need to role play it. I'd rather hear Avalon and Efni role play the next part. Just Clara done tattled. - You snitched hard. - You snitched. - I snitched like a bitch. - Let's say that you guys set up camp for the night. So you got your crackling fire, you get the air kind of turns cool after the sunset, and it's got this nice breeze blowing through camp.

Every once in a while, you'll hear the extra crackle of the fire as the wind hits it. And I would imagine people are just sort of getting off their feet, that nice feeling of like you've been walking all day and just boots are not kind of feet. I don't know if anyone's had to wear boots for long periods of time, but it sucks. So is there anything you guys would like to talk about while you're in camp? - Before they start doing their thing, can I just establish right now that every time we stop for the day, Kaluna is going to use Druidcraft to predict the weather.

- Nice. - Neat. - Just every single time, unless I say otherwise, Kaluna is gonna be doing that shit. - What's that do? - Yeah, for the people-- - Besides just predict the weather, sorry. - Well, there's a lot of things that it can do, but for this particular use, let me crack open the tome. - You create a tiny, harmless sensory effect that predicts what the weather will be at your location for the next 24 hours. The effect might manifest as a bunch of different things, depending on what the weather is. There's descriptions, but fucking-- - Yeah, you don't have to go into all that.

Well, to get going on that, in this particular location for the next 24 hours, it appears as though it's gonna be another sunny day. - Cool. - That's it. - Just to be clear, we did have this conversation already. Clara, that's just out of the way. - I feel like role-play wise, what happened is we're all on horses and she kind of just pulls her horse up next to you and kind of just whispers what happens. - One second, you guys don't have horses. - Oh, we don't have horses. Okay, then she's just going to be on foot and saddle up next to you for a second and tell you what happened.

Like in a whisper, not 'cause she doesn't, I imagine that if she's coming to you with it, it's 'cause she doesn't want to embarrass Efenny. But she's also like, "Dude, Efenny got her ass kicked and you need to keep the bard out of like the reach of moles, for instance." Yeah, Efenny is not in his backpack at that point. - Yeah, while you're telling Efenny all this, like his eyes are just widening, like as you're whispering to him. And-- - I feel like the way she go about it too is like, she'd be like, "It's just, she's really small and like she's trying to be nice about it." It's like, maybe not a rapier, like maybe, maybe stay in the back, like, yeah.

- All right, Aveline, he's going to say, "All right, I understand, I'll talk to her a little bit later." - Clara will just nod and then fall back to position. And then we camp later and now we're here. - So when we camp, Aveline's going to have a stern look on his face, he hasn't said much for a while. And he's been kind of been giving Efenny these glares, but he hasn't been acting on it until he finally gets up and he walks over to Efenny and he says, "Can I talk to you privately for a second?" - Please do, instead of just laying at me, talk to me.

- So Aveline, he leads you away from everyone. And for a while, he just, he kind of paces back and forth. And he says, "I heard what happened today. Someone told me you almost died. I didn't even notice." - Well, that's okay, you were kind of busy helping Ellora, so don't worry about that. - As you say that, like mid, mid as you say that, he kind of like drops to his knees and he's in this very like apologetic stance. And he says, "You were hurt today because of me. I got out of line. I had, I wasn't thinking I'd, I should have stayed by you and you almost died.

I promise you, Efenny, that will never happen again." - Efenny smiles and she puts a hand on your shoulder and she kind of looks a little bit sheepish and says, "No, that wasn't on you, that was on me. I should have stayed back more. I didn't, I guess sometimes I get, I watch you and Ellora and Clara go in and you guys are so impressive and you're so strong. I guess sometimes, I guess I want a little bit of that and I forget that I'm a bit of a weakling really. So yeah, that was on me, buddy. Please don't worry." - Efenny, you're just the strongest person I know and I don't care whose fault it is.

I will never let it happen again. Where would I be without you? - I ask myself the same thing every single day. And with that, he's like, he doesn't do this often and when no one's around, but he's gonna kind of pat her on the head and kind of play with, ruffle her hair a little bit. And before he did it, he kind of looked around 'cause it's kind of embarrassing for him. He doesn't feel embarrassed very much, but that thing, he likes doing that and he doesn't want anyone to know he likes doing that. - Efenny is going to gently, not aggressively or anything, just gently push your hand away and then straighten her hair.

Excuse me, but then she'll grin at you. - Yeah, that's par for the course. - Yeah. - So afterwards though, Evelyn comes back out of the woods with a very angry face. Like he just told her off. He was gonna sit back down. - Yeah. - Efenny will be walking behind him, rolling your eyes and like doing hand motions like, yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever. - Oh, I thought you were doing like the jerk off. Like just the guy. (all laughing) - Is that not the same thing? - That was fun. - That's something different to the group though, right? - Yeah, that's true. - That's why we knew the friends.

- That changes the relationship a little bit. - Yeah, you're right. - Oh, she'd have to get on her tippy-toes. - Stop, it's not that short. - I quit the show. - Yeah, no, you know what? The next couple of days are gonna be pretty much par for the course. You are currently now halfway between Lockford and Fair Bay. You've had three days total on the road and this will be your fourth day, sorry, your fourth day waking up, crack of dawn, getting ready to get out there.

Would someone do me a favor and roll a flat D20 for me? - Not it. - No, I'll do it. Here I go. 13. - Not bad. - Ooh, that's a lot better than mine. - Mm-hmm. - All right. So the only big obstacle right off the bat isn't so much an obstacle, it's just kind of miserable. Now, Colina would have checked, Colina would have checked what the weather was going to be and sadly it is going to be pouring rain. A nice summer storm type of thing. And even though spring is just kicking off, it is a warm, heavy rain that's just gonna be falling on the group the entire time.

So the entire day you guys are on the road, just drenched. So that's kind of a miserable experience, right? I mean, have you guys are in leather armor type of thing? Even if you're not, it's just kind of like squingy and chafy and it's not fun. - Okay, I don't want to be this person, but I remember from Olivia and Tharia that the caves, like the undercity are actually really hot. Would Clara be like a little bit better off just inside because of that? Like just, this isn't, like the difference between me and you in the office, for instance. - Right, no, I mean.

- Just feel soaked. - You would, yeah, you'd deal with the heat better. I mean, this isn't like boiling rain or anything like that. It's just like, you know that warm summer rain, you know, where it's just, it's like, wow, that is like room temperature rain. That's not cool at all. Like that's, it's kind of crappy. So yeah, you're just as wet as everyone else. But like, I don't think anybody's, you know, dying of the heat. It's a little cooler than it has been, but still just kind of miserable out. - Gotcha. - So just trudging along, just sloshing, squishing in puddles the entire day.

So I would imagine the, by the time you get to where you're going at night, you are, you're almost, you know, you're basically two thirds of the way there, right? And you're just trying to dry your clothing out and get it ready for tomorrow. The rain finally stopped. And unless anybody wants to do anything, that 13 is going to take us into Fairbay. - Kaluna is going to party hard the whole way there. - That whole last day. - So rain's going to stop. You guys are going to eventually get to Fairbay. You have spent a little over six days on the road and you are going to roll into Fairbay pretty much evening on the sixth day.

Excuse me. So the town is starting to wind down a little bit. Some of the, some of the shops and restaurants and bars are still open and everything. It's probably around like seven, somewhere in there. So it's just, it's just lit enough that the sun's starting to set. People are starting to kind of knock off for the day. But welcome to the tiny town of Fairbay, guys. This is a town that's basically comprised of a few streets. A back alley in Fairbay is not the same as a back alley in a big city like Brightport. It's really kind of small, more of a farming and fishing community.

It's right on the border of, it's right on the border of the ocean here. So it's a really lovely little town. Is there someplace you guys would like to head first? - Yes. Yeah, Kalluna is going to be just bouncing as they walk into town and they're not going to stop bouncing and they're going to just, they're going to make a beeline for a certain restaurant that I don't know the name of. - I believe you're referring to the Pounce and Claw. - Oh my God. (laughing) Yes, that is exactly right, Jason. How did you know? - I don't know. - But yeah, Kalluna is, Kalluna doesn't care if everyone else is following them.

They are just fucking booking it there. - Would they say anything? - I mean, they might like a look back at everyone and just grin really big and like bounce in place before they take off. But that's about all the warning you guys are going to get. That's all the explanation. - Well, okay. Let me ask, let me ask everybody, let me just paint a picture. You guys again have been on the road for almost a week. That is a long ass time to be walking. And you finally get to a town like civilization. There's places to sleep, there's places to drink and eat. And you guys have been surviving on things like bread and jerky and dried meats rations, things like that.

It's kinda, it's a crappy experience to be on the road and getting to a town is, it can be almost overwhelming depending on the size of it. Fair Bay is obviously much smaller. But the first thing you guys encounter upon walking into the town is Kalluna basically bouncing up and down and then just trotting off. What would everybody else be thinking? - I mean, Abilene would just, he would kind of shrink as a person. He wouldn't be as talkative 'cause he gets overwhelmed pretty easily in towns. So. - Can I ask another question? Who here has been to Fair Bay?

- Me. - I think Abilene's been there before. - Elirath had a lovely encounter with some dude bros or at least a dude bro and his lovely dude bro girlfriend. The last time we were in Fair Bay. - Don't worry, they haven't been forgotten. - AKA Dick Punchgate. - Oh God. I feel like, first of all, Clara hasn't, but I feel like Clara would kind of look to Elirath and then to Kalluna and sort of gesture in the direction that they went. Should we follow or? - I guess. I mean, I was gonna ask you same thing. So, okay. - I think we should. They look like they know where they're going.

- Right. And then, yeah, I guess we'll just follow Kalluna. I imagine we'll just kind of, I'm not sure how open is the layout of the city? Like, can we see where they're going from a pretty far distance? Or is it just like everything's really close together? - Yeah. I'd say things are spaced out enough that it's not a, like you could see pretty much everything in town if you're on the main street. So it's not like they would slip away and get lost too quickly. - So like parents at a carnival, let's say, we're gonna follow Kalluna. Just don't get kidnapped, go on, have fun.

But we'll follow behind until we reach the Ponsonclaw. - Sounds like a plan. - Kalluna didn't get that far away, right? We can still see them? Or do they just like take off? - I would say, I don't think you would just stand there as they run off into the distance. Like I think that you guys would be pretty much right there. So this, so Kalluna is going to go to, again, a back alley, quote unquote, but it's essentially just off the main street and it sort of wraps around into this area where a lot of barrels and crates and things are stacked. And toward the end of this alley, there is going to be a red door and it's situated in the middle of this place.

For this being a business establishment, it's really kind of a crappy place for one. There's no sign outside the alley that would indicate that there's anything back here to patronize, like there's no, there's no, it's like, oh, this way to the restaurant. No, there's nothing there. So when you get there, there is a red door with markings on it. And it looks like claw marks have been painted onto the door and just above it, there's going to be a sign that says the Ponsonclaw. That is the only indication that this is a place to actually visit. - Is there any sort of protocol to get into this establishment?

Do we need to do a secret knock? - No, it's just a handle on the door. - Listen, I don't know how pretentious this place is. But yeah, so Colleen would look back at everyone and sort of Will Smith pose at the door and just grin at them and say, "Ta-da!" And then they're going to go in without waiting for the reaction. - Okay, you need to be more specific. Are we talking like an I am Legend Will Smith pose or are we talking at Fresh Prince? - No, I'm talking about the one where he's like on the red carpet and gesturing at his family members. - Yes. - Gotcha, okay.

Nothing has been explained. You guys, I just need to, you met Kelowna in Lockford a little over seven or eight days ago.

- Yep, then we followed them all the way to Fair Bay to get some really good soup, I think. - Oh, Jesus. - That's what the whole party thinks now is like, okay, we've been led here to get food. So yeah, I guess we'd walk in. I feel like maybe Clara would be the first one to like step forward, like, all right, let's, I guess. - Well, okay, when you walk in to the Bouncy Claw, it is a tight place. Walking in, there's gonna be a spiral staircase, a very small one though, not a luxurious, elegant thing. It is a tight staircase leading up a couple of floors, it looks like, and then one floor down.

And you're instantly gonna hear commotion. You're gonna hear a little banging, a little, you know, maybe a little yelling, and that's definitely coming from below, like a basement type of thing. Now, there's a front desk, and there's going to be a guy sitting down behind it. Behind him, there's just a couple of smaller tables. It looks like maybe four people could sit at each one of these tables, but that's all the room that there is in this dining area. So you're guessing that there's probably more space above you or below you, but it's definitely built more vertically than spaciously.

The gentleman sitting behind this front counter is going to very slowly look up from what he's reading, see that there is a group standing in front of him. He's going to roll his eyes. (laughing) And he's going to heft himself up. Now, when I say that, it's not because this individual is heavy, it just looks like every ounce of movement is taking a Herculean amount of effort. Just- - I didn't give you permission to put me in this game, man. (laughing) - Infringing on my copyright myself. - I'm doing that right now. - And you're gonna hear a grunt, just.

- Fantastic. Is Kaluna still here? Did Kaluna just run past? - Like is Kaluna familiar with this gentleman? - I don't- - Or is he a more recent hire? - Kaluna would have seen this gentleman before. Kaluna would know this gentleman as Jeremy. Now, the last time Kaluna would have seen this person would have been working with a set of bandits years ago. This would have been over two years ago, probably around two and a half years ago, somewhere in there. But at the time, it didn't seem like being a bandit was necessarily Jeremy's style, 'cause he wasn't particularly good at it or invested.

Not personally, not emotionally, not, definitely was not giving it his all. - Yeah, so I think if Kaluna recognized him, they would be like, Jeremy? - Jeremy is going to stare blankly at Kaluna. - Kaluna's gonna like hold their arms out like, Jeremy. - You were saying to my friend one time. Oh, I'm sorry, hold on. - Sorry. - Yeah, it's fine. I said the wrong thing anyway. I suck. But so Kaluna will hold their arms out and they'll say, Jeremy, you were said to kill our friend one time. You remember? - Yeah, you're gonna have to be more specific. - Who is he supposed to, was it Una or was it Brie?

It was Brie, right? Because she stabbed. Yeah. - I want that to be in character. Was it Una or was it Brie? Brie was stabbed. So like, yeah, so small girl, long black hair. - Oh, punchy. - And Kaluna is like legitimately like thrilled. - Clara is going to interject real quick and be like, wait, you remembered long black hair before you remembered? And then she's just going to gesture to Kaluna as a whole. - Jeremy's gonna look over to Clara and just like shrug. Just, I don't know. - Kaluna's gonna look over and shrug too. Like we blend in. - Wait, wait, wait. He tried to kill Brie.

She'll laugh like that. - Yeah, Kaluna will laugh too. Like, yeah. - Abilene will look around and starts laughing. He doesn't know what's the joke. He doesn't want to miss it. (laughing) - Yeah. - Yeah, once Kaluna's laughter dies down, they're gonna go, you know where the boss is? - And he's gonna cock his head for just a second. Yeah, he died. You got his... - No, no, wait, hold on. The boss here, this boss. - Yeah, he's yelling at people downstairs. It's in the kitchen. - Kaluna's going to just wave at him and sort of, as they're going down the stairs, tell everyone else, make yourselves coffee.

And they're gonna go downstairs. - God dammit. - Jeremy's gonna look to the rest of you like, go sit down. Just like, and he just points to an area. Just like, I don't care. Go, go sit down. I don't, whatever. - This is the best thing that ever happened. - By the way, this restaurant. - Who's gonna be my favorite NPC? - This restaurant for being like dusk, stunningly empty. Like, you don't hear another living soul beyond the people in the kitchen yelling. And Jeremy, that's it. It's just empty. So Kaluna's going to the kitchen. - Hell yeah. - So in the kitchen, there are going to be a couple of individuals working.

They're going to be working. And it looks, when Kaluna walks into the kitchen, it looks like they may be working a little under duress. Just a little bit. - As they should be. - And there's going to be a mustachio gentleman standing over them, constantly hovering. Just, there isn't a single activity going on in this kitchen that this individual isn't backseat driving. (laughs) - Oh my God. Kaluna's just going to sort of, Kaluna knows better than to get in the way and get any further into this kitchen than they need to. So they're just going to sort of try to stay in place and be as quiet as they can, but they're not good at either of those things.

So they're just sort of like hopping from foot to foot and just sort of like biting their lip, like, "Don't talk, don't talk, don't talk, don't talk." - The mustachio gentleman in question is named Merrick. What would Merrick be doing right now? - I imagine he would be hovering over these people that he's trying to get to do it the right way, but they just won't do it the right way. So he's going to be like, "That one goes there. That one goes there." And he just point like over their shoulders, trying to get them to plate the food correctly, not even to cook it, right?

Just to actually put it on the plate the right way. And then I like to think that, honestly, I like to think that Kaluna's hopping back and forth foot to foot and saying, "Don't say a word." And it's actually, you know, that they're actually saying it out loud. - Absolutely. - Don't say anything, don't say anything, don't say. So he's just going to like hear and just stand up straight and then like, just take a couple of moments to, and then he's going to turn around and he's going to see Kaluna and then he's going to just, he's going to wipe his hands on his apron and he's just going to beam and he's going to run over to Kaluna and just grab.

- Yes. Yeah, Kaluna's just like, as soon as they see Merrick turn, they just, they hop one more time and just, take on like a star pose, just ready for this hug. - Love it. Yeah, it's, can we roll for this hug? 'Cause it should be pretty hardcore. - Strength check? - Oh no. - Yeah, but not like a danger strength, but like good, good. - I would just say you both hug really well. - No, this is important. Okay, Kaluna, it's a really good, good hug. No, it's good. But yeah, no, he's going to go and he's going to, eventually after a much longer hug than, just a normal hug, this is like super, super, super good hug.

He's going to then back up and holding Kaluna's shoulders and just push back and be like, what are you doing here? This is, what are you doing? What's happening? Why are you here? Where have you been? How's it going? Oh my God. Oh my God. And then he's going to turn back around and he's going to bark something at the two people that are putting stuff on the plate that has nothing to do with, like basically he's doing two things at once and he's very on top of both of them. So he's going to be yelling at those two people about something they're not doing correctly.

- Can I remind everyone of one thing? There are no patrons in this restaurant. They are cooking food, just so Merrick can yell at them about how they're not doing it correctly. - And they're being his fuck. - That just makes perfect, Jason. - Right, I know, I'm just putting that out there. This isn't for a customer. This is just, it's like, well, we might as well practice while that's all it is. - This is plating. Yeah, this is like plating 101 and he's been doing it for a long time with these two and he's really fed up. And instead of firing them, he's going to make them suffer.

(laughing) Until they get it right. - Losing your jobs would be a mercy that you don't deserve. - Right, no, his thinking is that for them to have to go through this and he's like, I'm not going to fire you. I'm no, no. And you're not quitting either. No, I'm not letting you go because-- - Wait a minute, I don't think you can keep them there. They want to quit. - No, this is what he would say. - I think that's called slavery. - It is. No, no, no. - It is. Is he enthusiastic? It is. - No, no, no, no. I don't mean he's actually trapping them in there. The point is that they're like, well, we should be here.

No, no, you can't leave. - Right. - No, no, I'm not going to fire you. You're going to get this right and you're going to be better people for it. - You are going to break them down and remake them into-- - That's it. Like he's really thinking about this as a good-- - Isn't the Oscar award-winning like movie about a drummer that follows this exact same plot? - Yes, it is. - Right? - Yes. - Like his teacher like smacks his face a bunch and is like super abusive and one of his students kills himself. Like-- - Yeah, J. Jonah Jameson's in it, yeah. - Oh, right, right.

Yeah, this isn't that bad, but, 'cause they could just leave, but clearly Merrick has a little bit of a tight, he's a little bit micromanagey. Anyway. - That's amazing. - He's going to yell at them a couple of times more while this is all happening, but he's like, "What's going on? What do, hey, wait, hang on. Do you need something to eat? Are you hungry?" - Kaelyn is going to just the biggest fucking grin. Although they've had the biggest fucking grin on their face this entire time, so that doesn't matter. But they're going to say, "We're always hungry." - Okay, so, all right, so Merrick has a cantrip as a cleric called Thematurgy.

- Oh my God. - And one of the things that, it's like a tiny little minor, tiny little miracle type thing. What he's going to do is he's going to yell with his voice and when he does this cantrip, it can make it three times as loud as what his normal voice would be. So he's going to yell, he's going to cast this little cantrip and he's going to yell, "Jeremy!" - Oh my God. - It is going to be really, really, really, really loud. And it doesn't have to be coming from Merrick, it's just going to be from a point that he wants and it's going to be right at the top of the stairs.

- Oh Jesus. - Right where Jeremy is. - Okay, so let's cut back to the rest of the group. The rest of the group is seated in the restaurant, I would imagine. And all of a sudden this booming echo, it sounds like God basically tore the roof off of this restaurant. It's like, "Jeremy!" It sounds, it sounds terrifying probably, 'cause it just, first of all, it's going to bounce and echo around and then Jeremy, I believe most people would be like, "What the fuck was that?" Jeremy is probably used to this. - Yes. - And barely reacts. So I think the series of it's like, "Jeremy!" It would boom and then you hear, (sighs) (laughs) - Which somehow is equally as loud.

(laughs) 'Cause of the silence that came after the script. (laughs) Like just loud noise, dead silence, and then a really loud sigh. - So Jeremy is going to stand up and you're going to hear him shuffle down to, you're gonna hear him shuffle down to the basement area here where the kitchen is. And he's going to part the doorway. Yeah. Set up Kaluna at the nicest table, at the good table, and anything they want, just they're going to take care of it. And he's going to point, he's going to look really mad at those two people that are in there that are working in the kitchen.

He's gonna be like, "They're going to help. You're going to help." Like he's really angry. And- - I would imagine these two chefs, there's one male, one female, and they're both perspiring the entire time. 'Cause now there's actually, okay, as bad as it is when there's no one in the restaurant, it's worse when there's someone in the restaurant. - Oh God. - It's character building. (all laughing) And he's going to turn back and go, "Wait a second. Wait, are you by yourself? Are you with people?" - We brought friends. And they're going to like point back as though the people are right behind them.

- Right. New friends. Okay, great. Jeremy, set them all up on the nice floor. And I'm gonna bring, and let them know what's on the menu. And I'm gonna get some stuff taken care of and I'll be there in a minute. Kaluna, go, go, go, go. I'm bringing everything to you. Go rest. - Kaluna's going to, they don't have pupils, but they're going to roll their eyes. And they make, every time they do, because they're used to this, they just like roll their entire head. Just slightly, just enough to get across. I'm rolling my eyes at you. And then they're gonna go upstairs and gather everyone up.

- So Jeremy is going to walk with you up the stairs and he's gonna say, "Yeah, I always just like pick a random floor and table when he says that. 'Cause I don't, I think they're all the same, but." - Kaluna is going to look deeply offended. He said the best, you've got to listen to him. - Do you know what he's done? Do you know? - No. - Exactly. So Kaluna is going to take it upon themselves to investigate every single table until they figure out which table is actually the best table so they can educate Jeremy. - Okay. I, okay, I'm gonna break this down to you.

All the tables look pretty much the same, but I guess it would be up to Kaluna to, it's like, oh, this one clearly. - Yeah, definitely just like this one definitely came from a good tree. - Yeah, it's like the grain of the wood. - Good sacrifice from that tree. Yeah, exactly. It's just. - Some sort of spirit that's sensed by touching the table. - It's actually all bullshit. They just like, you can almost see them like sweating, like, "Shit, he's right. They're all the same." - Like maybe there's an afternoon where Jeremy was hired and it was new and he was like, "I better find out which one of these is different." And all of them appear to be the same to Jeremy.

Like it's just, they just are. So the group's gonna get together, everyone's gonna get seated and Jeremy is going to promptly leave you be. And there is a waiter. The waiter is eventually going to, the waiter is eventually going to come out. And the waiter's actually dressed up a bit nicer than Jeremy. Jeremy is, you know, he's dressed okay, but the waiter seems to be taking this a little more seriously, a little like maybe snooty. Snooty is the word I'm looking for. And he's gonna approach the table and there, you know, by this point you would have gotten menus.

And he's going to look disdainfully. At all of you. This, this, this, this cadre of individuals. Welcome to the Pounce and Claw. Can I get anything to drink for the lot of you? - I'm dying. - Ephraim's gonna say, "Your finest ale please, sir." - He's gonna nod his head. He's gonna be writing this down. - Kaluna is, this is very important. Kaluna is on their best behavior that I think anyone has ever seen, including Merrick. Like they're sitting upright. They've got their feet on the floor, legs together. No elbows on the table, hands clasped politely. Like they're just, they're doing everything in their power to make, to just look like they belong in the finest eating establishment that has ever existed.

- The finest eatery. - Exactly. And they're just going to, they're gonna try to be very polite. They're gonna say, "Wine, please?" Clearly just like, "Is this how you do it?" And they're looking at everyone else like, "Is that right? Is that how you do the thing?" - Gregory, the waiter. - Is going to look at Kaluna. I'm sorry, was that a question or an answer? (laughing) - Both. - All right. By the way, looking at the menu here, the word, if there was one, to sort of get across what the menu would be is hipster. Oh, the most hipster of hipster. Okay, we're talking things like free range water and artisanal corn.

(laughing) It's just, it's, dude, Merrick could break down things a little bit better than I could, but man, there is a complete menu. I could link everybody. - Please. - Yes, please. - That'd be awesome. - I don't know how you get this free range water. (laughing) - I believe it's a river. - I believe that's true. - Is it really free? It's confined by its walls. - Pocahontas told me that the river means freedom. 'Cause just around the river bend. - Jason, I've got it too, if you want me to put it in there. - I was just about to post it. - Okay. - Come on, this is the best.

- It is my best. - Oh my God, that looks good. - What is a puree of ham, Jasper, why? (laughing) - Right, right. - It's a perfectly fine ham. - Excuse me, excuse me, where are the pancakes? - Sash vinegar. - Sheltered sugar chips. - Oh, I forgot the appetizers, hang on. The appetizers are the best. - Help. - Rubbed butter is my favorite. (laughing) Distressed hazelnuts. - Oh my God. - No, oh no. - What is a folk peach, what is a folk peach? - Oh my God, that plant is so ready to order. - So again, Gregory is going to be just kind of writing down everyone's order and stuff.

And he is going to, Gregory's going to mumble something under his breath. - Massage sticky rice. (laughing) - What is a grape leaves, what is that? He's going to mumble something under his breath and just, he's trying to sort of just, that. And he's writing things down. Would someone like to do me a favor? - Yeah. - Roll a perception check for me. - Me, me. - Go right ahead, let's see if you pick this up. - There's one ordering, yeah. - Yeah, let's see if you pick this up. - Yeah. - Jesus. - Almost the crit for the-- - That's a 24 total, you're gonna hear. Okay, so Kaluna is going to hear, "I'll get an order of bread for the table, hopefully that will cover up some of the smell." - You dick.

- Kaluna is going to-- - He's going to sort of deflate a little bit because that is something that they are aware is a problem. And they're just kind of gonna fidget with their thumbs a little bit. They're trying so hard and this man is being mean. - So, I'm gonna roll my own perception check and I don't know what Clara would do, she did hear that. - I just wanna make Kaluna feel better. - Well, eventually, so Gregory is gonna get all the orders together and he's gonna get ready and head back to the kitchen. Let me ask a question, would Kaluna tell the rest of the group or would it be more an embarrassment thing of like, "Oh no." - Oh no, they are definitely just like, they're gonna spare everyone else the mortification.

They're just gonna deal with it themselves. - Gotcha. - I do smell bad, I do. I mean, I just got rained on and I thought that was a good enough shower, but I guess not, it's fine. - Well, the problem is the rain stays there and eventually just, it just becomes funk. - Yeah, but Kaluna doesn't, Kaluna thinks of rain as like, "Oh yes, a shower." - Well, yeah, at first, as long as you take off all the wet junk, you're, yeah. So, I wanna know what everybody's gonna order. - Oh, I know what I'm gonna order. I went through the recipe. Do we wanna go around the table and I'll stay our orders? 'Cause I'm ready.

- Hold on, I need to read it again. I was crying too much the first time. - Oh my God. - The prices also are, they're not extravagantly high, but this is definitely cheap. It's not a cheap restaurant. - How much gold do I have? All right, I'm fine. - Oh no, you know what, it's fine. - I know the owner, I'm good. - Where's Zego, oh, I see, nevermind. - Well, Clara is going to order the frightened monkfish because that sounds like something she'd eat underground, so why not? - What about Aluneth? - She'd probably look at this and she'd be like, "Water, please?" (laughing) - Please?

- What about Avalon? - Avalon has been studying this menu very closely and he puts it down very calmly and with the utmost confidence, he looks and he says, "I'll have the pancakes." - Kaluna is going to be like, "Oh yep, he makes very good pancakes." - And they're going to look at Gregory, like, "Right, Gregory?" - Gregory would hate you. Just passively, just disdain, 'cause pancakes are not on the menu. (laughing) - I know. - It's Avalon, he needs some pancakes, come on. - What about Efini? - I think she's intrigued by the scraped rice and eggplants who fly.

(laughing) - You know what makes it a good menu? You can't order anything from it without giggling. - I know. - Oh, by the way, Jason, I was expecting him to say, like, we don't serve pancakes, but do they? Are they willing to do that? - It's one of the, here's the thing. - Because I was expecting him to say no 'cause I had something else planned. - And he would say no, I think he would measure, I think he would measure his want to explain that to you and then try to get you to order on menu with, just going back to the kitchen, it's like, they want this.

I don't know, you deal with it, I don't know. - Gotcha. - I don't get paid enough, that's how you do it. - I don't get paid enough for any of this. - I expect him to write down pancakes and just bring out whatever they feel like. - Right. - Yeah. - Just write down, I don't know, give us fucker whatever. - Just another plate of munchies. - Or squished up waffles. - Or squished up rolls, just like dinner rolls. - Kaluna will get the ham puree with oyster pate, I almost said aster pate. - Ass puree. - Which is funny on two levels. - No one's going with this awakened mead reduction for a drink.

- Awakened mead. - I don't think a reduction can also be a drink is the thing. - You underestimate the power. - What they do is they just fill it up with the mead and they just like pour a little bit out and there you go, there's your reduction. - But they charge full price, it's genius. - So, okay, would Merrick come talk to the group eventually or obviously Merrick's going to supervise everything that's happening in the kitchen while it's being cooked, I would imagine. - Yeah, so what's going on for him right now is that he's incredibly excited, he's probably happier than they've ever seen him in a long time, if ever.

And he is going to be getting a bunch of pots and pans and just basically prepping because there's gonna be a lot of stuff that's gonna be used throughout whatever they order. He's probably just starting to get frenetic about just starting to make shit. And he's just barking orders about like, "Get the heat going, go, go, go, go." Like, "It's now, now's your time, this is what you've been training for," basically kind of a thing. And yeah, so he's just getting prepared. And in a couple of minutes, he's gonna probably yell to Jeremy about, just like, "Do we have their orders?" - Oh my God.

(laughing) How has someone not hung themselves yet? - It just isn't anger, it's just loud and he's really trying to help people. He's just doing a very bad job. - I imagine that once the day ends, he's like really good and supportive, like, "You guys did great today." - That's exactly what I was gonna say. Honestly, I hadn't gotten there yet, but what I was gonna do before the two cooks left is as usual, he's gonna give them an incredibly warm hug. But at the end of the night and say, "You did amazing, you were an amazing person tonight." - I like how you can tell he was already gonna do that.

- Yep, and that's why they keep coming back, right? They're like, "No, he's really not a bad guy, he's actually-" - He's not yelling at us, it's actually, it's okay. - I feel like it's one of those things where they complain all day, but what else would they do? So they keep coming back. - Would you do me a favor? So let's do this. So with Merrick's tutelage, let's see how well your team is going to perform tonight. Give me a wisdom check. - Oh, this is hype. Come on buddy, you were tired. - This is the most important role that you will ever make. (all gasping) - Oh yeah!

- That was a 20. Everyone saw the 20, right? - Yeah, that was a 20. - Am I crazy? - That was a 20. - Am I crazy? - Yeah. - We're counting the 20. - What? - Earlier- - So what you're saying is that was a crit? - Yes. - And plus three. - Yes. I'm saying you rolled a maximum. Maybe it's the fact that these are Merrick's friend up there. Maybe it's the fact, maybe just all the stars aligned and your constant screaming and the pressure and whatever, they perform flawlessly. - I really think this is the time whenever Merrick would actually let go and trust them because it's like, there's all of a sudden this Zen moment of it has to be perfect.

And so let's just all do the machine exactly just right. And that is probably the most serene and calm moment that they've had actually performing their job. And it was probably just a beautiful moment for everybody. - They are going to get this food out of the kitchen and it is going to be spectacular, flawless. Now, whether this is exactly what the party wanted is another story, but even the pancakes are going to be, the pancakes are going to come out complete with massaged butter and (laughs) caressed maple syrup or whatever the fuck would be on this menu.

And everyone is going to get their stuff. Would Merrick be joining the party after that? - Right, so as long as he's comfortable that everything is being ready and plated and he's comfortable that they are doing an exceptional job, he's going to then sort of snap out of it and quickly and he'll take off his apron, he'll clean his hands off and he'll just sort of like get his mustache in order and he's going to just run upstairs and try to find where everybody is and basically take a seat. But before he does- - Very long search. - It may be, but he is going to bring up a couple of plates 'cause he's going to have a couple of appetizers that are going to be comped.

He's just going to, like, he's around the house, he's going to bring up a couple of appetizers, peppercorn waffle and... (mumbles) The seaweed with cider lime and distressed hazelnuts. I think he's going to bring up a couple of those for the table and that's it. - Now you said a peppercorn waffle? - Yeah. - I think that's pretty close enough to a pancake so you know- - No, not my waffles, no. - Oh, okay. - No. - Oh shit, my fault. - No. This is a savory waffle and this is a savory waffle with buckwheat, you have no idea. - Oof, I don't. (laughing) - I love the instant offense.

Just like, not my waffles. (laughing) - How dare you, sir? - Well, no, that's the way that I'm thinking- - These aren't people's pancakes, come on. - Right. The way I'm thinking, American, with this place is that this is his only focus and if you were to at some point actually have a conversation about peppercorn waffles versus pancakes, he would be one of those people that if you talk to them about some topic, they would be like, "No, you can't get any different. Like, they're so different. They are on complete opposite ends of the entire spectrum. Are you kidding me?" - So, food is Merrick's politics and/or religion.

- Yes. - Excellent. - Right. Okay, I'll stop with that. But anyway, he's gonna go up and try to join and find Kaluna. - Okay, I have a quick question and it's probably not important, but I just wanna know what kind of pancakes is Avalon getting? Are they like the normal flat but fluffy pancakes or are they the absurd, super thick, fluffy cloud pancakes? - No, they're not the fluffy cloud ones, but what they are, it's a stack of pancakes that actually has a nut butter between each one of them. So, it's basically a cake. This is basically a cake. So, it's nut butter and bananas.

- Are these awakened pancakes, by the way? - No, these are severe pancakes. - Oh, shit. (all laughing) - Fire pancakes. - Yeah, bananas are interspersed and plated beautifully around the edge. - Dirty boy. - Yeah. - I know exactly what Avalon likes. - We've unleashed the beast. But yes, okay. So, Merrick comes up to join the table. - Is that where I interrupted at? - Yeah, that's it. So, Merrick's coming up and he's gonna find you and he's gonna grab whatever chair he can from the rest of the room and just sort of pull it up next to Kaluna. He's not gonna push anybody out of the way.

He's not being rude or anything, but he's gonna come up right next to Kaluna. He just wants to be with Kaluna. And he's just gonna put his arm around them and just like a side hug, like, "Oh, God, it's good to see you." And then he's gonna look around and say, "Hi, I'm Merrick." And he's gonna just lift up his hand like a little wave. "Hi." - Kaluna is going to throw their arm. It's like, they've been so restrained this whole time. And then they're suddenly just like whipping their arm out and hugging him back real tight. And they're gonna say, "This is our Merrick." Just like, you can probably hear the smile that I had to put on there.

And like, that's how big it is. Just beaming. - I see. - I see, that's it. - I was gonna say more, but I was gonna let you fall. - Just, "I see," and then still like- - And everyone's just silent, just like, "What the fuck?" - Oh yeah, the food hasn't actually arrived yet. So this is just appetizer. So, "Oh, I brought some appetizers." He's gonna reach back over to the table. He probably put them on. He's gonna put them down in the middle and he's gonna say, "Please have at it." Listen, any friends of Kaluna are friends of mine. Absolutely. I hope that you enjoy your dinner tonight.

I hope that it will be up to your standards. Please let me know if anything's wrong 'cause I can take care of that if there's a problem. - Kaluna's going to try to subtly give everyone a look like, "Please never say anything is wrong. Please, God." Just desperation in their eyes. - Aveline's gonna say to Merrick, "Your name is Merrick, right?" - Yeah, yeah, Merrick. Merrick Elthorac. - I just wanna let you know, I think you have an amazing support staff. - They're actually shit, but I appreciate that. But they're all I've got and they're family. - Kaluna's going to just sort of weakly say, "We like Jeremy." - Jeremy couldn't work his way out of a paper bag.

- I like how he's just so calmly about it. Like it's just a fact. - Right. - It's not even the insult, it's just the fact. - Right, but he comes back every day. So I appreciate that. That's it. Food should be here shortly. Can I get anybody, anything else to drink? We have a couple of drinks. We always have a savory and a sweet. We've got a full bar. Anything? It's on the house. - Kaluna's going to just like, as he's like rattling off all this shit, they're just going to sort of like pat his arm, just sort of like calm the fuck down, bud. - Right. Marek, and it is very clear that he's been getting pretty riled up in a good way, but still, his heart is probably racing and he's gonna actually take that really seriously whenever Kaluna touches him.

And he's going to, it's gonna be kind of weird for everybody to watch, but he's gonna like close his eyes and do like some breathing for a second, like. (inhales) (exhales) Like two or three times. And then he's going to shake his head and have a little smile, open his eyes, and then he's gonna sit down on the chair and say, "Thanks, yes, please enjoy your dinner. It should be here very shortly." And he's just gonna be very calm at that point. - I'm curious. The people at the table who don't know Marek and are just meeting him for the first time, what are the general first impressions here of this place, of him, of even Kaluna at this point? 'Cause you've known Kaluna for about a week.

And this, they're obviously it's like, "Oh, this is to meet Marek." What would someone like Effeny or Klara or Eloratt think? - This is weird. - Yeah, I think that like Klara's too nice to say it, but she's kind of looking unsure. Like, okay, we came all this way for, and I don't know exactly how Kaluna described Marek, but I don't think at any point they said like, "Chef with anger issues." (laughs) And that's all they've seen thus far. - Yeah, no, that definitely would not be the description. It would have been like- - Like I imagine it would have been like really pumped up, like he's an excellent fighter and he's- - Oh no, it would have been, it would have been, our best friend, he's a super good healer.

He's like super good and he's so nice and he takes care of us and it's great. And he taught us how to use words and just like that sort of just on and on and on and on and on until someone stopped them, which I assume someone would have. - In a polite way, yeah. - What is that? - The waffle. - Marek is going to look almost like, I don't understand your question. It's a peppercorn waffle. It's a savory waffle, I don't understand. Like he's gonna- - Kaluna's going to give Elorath a look and sort of like try to very subtly do like neck gesture of like, "Shit, don't, don't, don't, stop right there.

Save yourself." - She's gonna take a piece and smell it. Like not even trying to use utensils, just like reach out and tear off a piece with their hand and just smell it. - I think Marek would actually kind of be getting the impression that maybe he's come on a little strong and he's gonna say, "I'll tell you what, I'm gonna go check on the food and I'll be back in a couple of minutes." - I, okay, I'd like to think that the food gets out and everyone starts digging in. - Does the monkfish look exactly as gross as I hoped? - Well, monkfish is- The poor man's lobster is what it's called in real life.

So essentially what it looks like is sort of a grosser lobster tail. If you can imagine that kind of, it's not a pretty fish. - So it's right up Clara's alley. She's like, "Hell yeah, let's eat this gross shit." - It's not, yeah. But the food's good for the, I mean, even if it's not necessarily your cup of tea, I would like to think that everyone's like, "Oh, okay, I could definitely see where the appeal is. This is okay." - Is it that shitty food though, where it's like, "Look at this nice plate and look at these tiny dollops of food." - There's a little bit of, okay, I don't want to say the word pretension, but there's a little bit of pretension here.

There's- - You don't say. - It's presented in a way that you could tell that there's a lot of pride behind it. Let's put it that way, a very nice way. But I would imagine you guys are reaching the end of the meal. It was definitely an experience. It's nothing that you're going to get just at any, like the big bowl of stew you'd get at a tavern or something like that, or a hunk of boar meat or something like that. There's definitely care and attention that's put into this food. - Actually, one thing that I would like Merrick to do at the very end of the meal is to go get his dried root pour over and bring that up for everybody as an after dinner drink.

It is a dried root that's very, like a very tasty, barky, chocolatey type root. And it's dried and it's ground up and it's put in water, hot water. And then you pour that out and you keep the root away from the water. And so you're left with a brown hot liquid that you would drink after dinner. - Sort of the Therian equivalent to coffee. - There you go. - Yeah. - I- - That. - Okay, this is something Merrick specifically has been working on though. He's just presenting a bunch of people who are used to water and ale, some brown smelly water. - Oh, I know, no, no, he's gonna be like, oh, I've got something that I want all of you to try.

I'll be right back. Anybody want like a hot beverage, something? Okay, I'll be right back. And he's gonna bring this out and he's gonna make a big show of it. It is a pour over thing. And then everybody's gonna get a little cup of this. Tiny, tiny cup, but a cup. But anyway, it's for conversation and after dinner-ness. And he's gonna say, okay, enough mystery. How does everybody here know everybody? Like, how did this happen? Kaluna, I don't know any of the story, I don't know. I got so much to ask you, but who are you? - Kaluna will look at everyone else and sort of do a tiny wave, like introduce yourselves.

- Aveline will look up and he'll say, my name is Aveline. It's nice to meet you. I understand you're a cook. It's quite useful. - It's been a long time. It's the only way I can focus. Helps keep me grounded. - I understand. - And he's gonna reach out his hand. He's gonna be very like much more gracious and more sociable, I guess. He's gonna reach out his hand, like truly, like it's really nice to meet you. It's a pleasure. - To Aveline? - Yeah. - Aveline's gonna be like, oh, this doesn't happen much. He'll just have that face and say, well, don't mind if I do.

And he'll shake your hand. - Elrath will probably like wave just a little bit 'cause I imagine she's across the table from you guys. Elrath, what's up? - I hope you enjoyed your meal of water, was it? - Awakened water. - Your free range water is very good. - Excellent. Please. I imagine that Elrath probably had water and then like all the bread, like keep bringing bread. - Yes. She knows what bread is. She does not know what the rest of that is. - What are distressing hazelnuts? - You don't wanna know. You don't wanna know how we do it. - What do you do to the nuts?

- He just yells at them all the time. - Yeah, you just sit them down and it's like, you know you're not going anywhere right now. You know that, right? You have no direction in life. - You're supposed to be an adult and all you've done that's adult-like is owe thousands of dollars to the government. You know that, right? - Oh my God. - Podcasting isn't a career. - Too close to home. - Wow. - I don't think this is about hazelnut anymore. - Elorath, it's a pleasure. And he's going to, at this point he's just gonna stand up and try to like do like a little bow or something.

He's just gonna, he's trying to be, he's trying to do something nice and up to some sort of standard, but it's really awkward. - Aw, she'll smile. She'll be like, nice to meet you. - And you, and he's gonna look at Clara. - Clara, well, first of all, she fucking destroyed this monkfish. She ate very properly, but it's picked clean and she'll smile. I'm Clara. It's nice to meet you. - Pleasure. See, like the monkfish. - Yes. - Well, I'll make sure you get the recipe before you're gone. It's a pleasure meeting you. - She'll, at that point, she might even break the ice to be like, Kaluna tells us that you're actually an amazing healer.

- He's gonna look over at Kaluna and be like, well, actually I don't know how amazing, but I definitely, I'm not. - He's amazing. Kaluna's just like gonna come off. He's good. - I've done my share of healing. Let's put it that way. Is there something needed? - Kaluna's going to like turn in their seat. I don't know how much space there is at the table for them to turn, but they will turn as much as they can to face Merrick. And they're gonna go, okay. So we went to go and visit our family, you know, over in the bad place. And we went to Lockford because, you know, that's the only town there.

And we saw these guys and they're gonna point at Elarath and they're gonna say, and we saw Elarath and look, we have the same, the white raven thing. And they're gonna like tap their arm really enthusiastically. So we started talking and it turns out that they wanted to go and do stuff. We were like, hey, we should go do stuff too. We should go help. And then we thought, you know who wants to help people? Merrick. - So wait, are you a white raven? - I was when they were, yes. - I think Merrick would get that. I think he would understand a little bit of the history or the aftermath kind of, of all that.

And I think he'd be like, no, no, I get it. You're, you know, once a white raven, always a white raven, right? - I knew a very brave white raven. - She knows me very. - Oh yeah, yeah. Well, I'm glad to have a white raven at the table. So, and he's looking around at everybody and he's gonna look at Ephany 'cause he hasn't been able to speak to Ephany even and say, you help people? Is that what Kaluna is saying? He's gonna look around at everybody, but he's sort of addressing Ephany. - Ephany is going to look over at Merrick and smile and say, we certainly try our best to.

I'm Ephany by the way. And she will hold a hand out to shake Merrick's hand. - He'll gladly shake. I'm not sure I'm following. And he's gonna look back at Kaluna. What's going on? - We're getting back in the business. (laughing) - Oh, you want to adventure? Is that it? - Kaluna's going to nod. And they're going to sort of, they're gonna stop trying to be polite and they're gonna just flop in the chair and just sort of spread all their arms out, gangly and shit and just like, we were in the forest for so long Merrick. And we did the same thing every day and we didn't get anything done.

We want to, we're tired of being in the same place, Merrick. We're gonna go out and we're gonna actually do shit. It's gonna be good. - Okay, I get that. I understand. I'm gonna be honest with you. I kind of feel the same way. I've been stuck in a kitchen and as much as I love it, clearly he's gonna gesture at everything. It's kind of stressing me out a little bit. And he's gonna look at Kaluna and his eyes are gonna go wide open. He's gonna say, right? You know what I mean? - Kaluna's gonna look at him funny, sort of like they get what he's saying, but they don't know why he's saying it.

They're picking up what you're putting down, but they don't understand why you're putting it down. - Right. Just a little stressful. In a basement, yelling at people all the time. But I guess it's the way to build character, right? It's good for people. Merrick's actually at this point, you can see him melting a little bit. So he's actually gonna very quickly be able to say to Kaluna, I've been actually looking for a reason to get out again. I've been itching. And honestly, and he's gonna poke his belly. He's gonna be like, I'm getting soft. - Kaluna's going to laugh really hard.

And they're gonna poke his belly too. And they're gonna say, you've always been soft though. - No, not like this. - And they're just, they're gonna sort of also like tap their hand and just like clickety clack, clickety clack, clickety clack. - Tomp, tomp, tomp. So, and he's gonna look back around at everybody. So is this the thing? Like, are you gonna be a party? Like, are you gonna see the world and adventure and maybe get in some fights? - We already got in a fight, so we're good. - Yeah. - Yeah, lots of dead people. Clara's just gonna look over to Elorath, like I'm with you, whatever.

She's just gonna grin. Yup. - Huh. It's just like that. Like, it's that easy. You could just decide to do that. He's mulling this over in his head. - Kaluna's gonna squint at him and just sort of give him like an incredulous look like as though it was so hard the first time. - Yeah, but I'm getting soft and I'm, you know, I've got a thing, right? He's gonna gesture at the restaurant. I've got a thing and I'm putting roots down or something. It feels weird. - Do you like it here? - I like Fair Bay, but I don't have a lot of friends. - Kaluna is going to look just absolutely shocked and appalled by the notion that Merrick doesn't have lots of friends.

- I kind of poured myself into my work, building this place up and, you know, hiring the best people I could find. - You just see Jeremy fall asleep at the desk. - Yeah, cut to Jeremy. He's like, not even there. - He checked out for the day. - Yeah, he's out smoking. Or no, just sitting there smoking. I tell you what, if I were to come along with everybody, would that be okay? I don't wanna have Kaluna force me upon everybody. I'm a handful sometimes. - Kaluna is going to ignore what Merrick just said and look at everyone like we're taking him with us. - Anthony.

- Personally. - Go on. - Go ahead. - No, go ahead, up to you. - Evelyn was going to say, are you sure we shouldn't pay him for coming with us? He seems very valuable. Do you see these pancakes? - Kaluna is going to- - And they're not there. There's actually nothing on the plane, but do you see these pancakes? Exactly. - Kaluna's going to look at Evelyn, just like a look of like, we are kindred spirits. You get it. You get me. - This man's value cannot be assessed. It is beyond any recognition I've ever seen. These pancakes, I thought people made great pancakes, but I was wrong.

My eyes have been opened. And I thank you for that Merrick. He's very serious. - Really, it's like completely sincere? - He's looking you dead in the eyes. - I imagine him actually reaching out and like cupping your hand on the table with direct eye contact. - This is extreme sincerity. - Okay, do it. Merrick is going to put his hand on Evelyn's shoulder and staring right back, almost like Merrick's eyes are watering. And you can imagine that he's going to cry, but it's more just, he's just completely touched. And he's going to be like, I'm coming with you.

- Kaluna is crying. This is beautiful. They're touched. - I thank you. How much should we pay you? - Pay me? - Yes. - Well, where could- - You have a restaurant. Why would you just leave it? - I have an idea. Give me 15 minutes. And he's going to just stand up and go downstairs for a minute. He's actually going to go straight down into the kitchen and Jason, what are the cooks doing in there? - Why, I'm glad you asked. For those of you who can't see at home, I did a couple of rolls. Now, there are two chefs in the kitchen currently. There's Jana and Caleb. Now, Jana is busy basking in the, kind of a celebratory type thing.

It's like, holy shit, we did it. All this yelling and screaming. It's just, oh yes. Caleb is, well, Caleb has gotten into the cooking booze and has just started drinking heavily. - Same bud, same. - And as Esmer comes into the kitchen, you are going to catch him mid-swig, just like, and he's not going to stop drinking, but he's going to stop drinking, but the mouth is still right up against the bottle and just his eyes are going to go, like just look over to the door, right, just like pure panic, but not stop. Again, almost like, if I don't move, you can't see me.

- Well, I said everybody in this restaurant's deficient mechanism, you know, just a T-Rex. - It must've worked at some point, right? - He is that terrifying. - Cooking alcohol instead of the actual alcohol that is stocked in the restaurant. - Here's the thing, I don't think he would have gotten that far. I think it would just would have been like, what's the nearest alcoholic beverage? - We survived. - Right. - I thought he was ready for whatever we can get. And it was like, I know he keeps track of that alcohol. - Right, I don't think it would even be that.

I think it would just be like, I need liquor to get through this day. And I, gimme. But Jane is dealing pretty well. She's, I think it'd be more like standing next to Kayla, like, hey buddy, it's going to be okay. We're going to get through it. We're getting better, see? That type of thing. - Jesus. So Merrick's going to see this scenario and he is going to grab whatever bottle, like he's going to open up some sort of cabinet. He's going to open, he's going to find a bottle of some sort of nice rye whiskey or whatever the equivalent would be, right? Some really good alcohol.

Something that would, he would not just normally sort of serve as whatever, but just something nice. And he's actually going to go over to Caleb and he's going to say, give me the cooking booze. - And with a shaky hand, Caleb is going to slowly extend his arm and hand the bottle over to Merrick. - And Merrick is going to, not very, but a little bit angrily, he's going to take it out of his hand and then he's going to hand him the really nice bottle and say, you don't deserve that, you deserve this. - And with a shaky hand, he's going to bring that bottle up to his lips and start drinking.

- So Merrick is going to grab three shot glasses and boom, boom, boom. And he's going to like, come on, come on, come on, give it, give it, give it. He's going to pour it in there real quick. And then he's going to put the bottle down, hand the shots to Jayna and Caleb and he's going to say, come here. And he's going to hold up his shot glass. - And again, almost like this is a trick. - Like, yeah, I know. - Almost like, I don't trust it, but they're eventually just going to be like, all right, let's do it, yeah. - And he's just going to like raise it up and he's just going to take a big shot and gesture for them to do it too.

- And they will. - He's, Merrick's going to say, Caleb, Jayna, you did exceptional work tonight. This is the best you've been. And I want you to know that you made it. You've absolutely made it. All of your hard work, all of the yelling, all of the putting up with me got you to this place. Now, I just want to, for context, I want to remind everybody, there's been nobody else in this restaurant all night except for. - Right. - Right, okay, but you did it. You actually, you absolutely did it. I, you saw my friend, we used to travel together and I gonna take a little hiatus.

Jayna and Caleb, I want you two to run this place while I'm gone. Do you think you could do that? They're okay, the entire time you're complimenting them and they're looking at each other. You know the Futurama fry meme of like, not sure if that's that squinty eye, just like staring at Merrick like, is this a trap? Like that type of thing. You're going to scream again, aren't you? But they're waiting and then they look at each other and Jayna's going to speak up. Can we hire new staff? (sighs) I'm going to leave that up to you. - Don't let him fire Jeremy.

- Yeah, I was going to say, but Jeremy and I have a history. If there's any way you could see fit to at least give him some aspect of this place. And you know, between you and me, he kind of makes the place, you know, have a little atmosphere, right? It's probably one of the reasons that people get drawn to this place. So. - Caleb's going to raise, just kind of like raise his hand just to kind of like. - There's going to be no. (laughing) - No objections. - I'd like to see Jeremy around, but I get it. Whatever else you want to do, it's yours. Make it be the place you want it to be.

- And Jayna's going to speak up again. Are you sure? - Yeah, it's not permanent. I'll be back, but I'm going to be gone for a while. Maybe a few months. How about that? In the meantime, I want you to make this place what you think it should be. I've taught you everything I know. You know what you're doing and you're way, way better than I've ever told you. So, show me what you got. When I get back, I expect this place to be filled to the brim with people. - Jayna is, okay, there is a mixture of, she's going to reach out to like simultaneously shake Merrick's hand, but also like kind of going for a hug.

Like she's not exactly sure what to do because this is the most, this is the most genuine niceness that Merrick has probably shown like in any given dosage. Like this is the most. - Right, he'll be, you know, he doesn't just come in and get angry with them. He'll be fine and everything be fine, but then he'll just be really, you know, really Hell's Kitchen. - Well, like to hand the restaurant over. - Oh yeah, it's a big deal. I'm just saying, he's not just been a jerk to them. - No. - He's just been really angry in the kitchen. - Right. - But anyway, yes, just, you know, for color.

- But eventually she'll kind of settle on a hug. - He's gonna hug right back. - Yeah, and Caleb will get on it afterwards. Just kind of a group hug situation going. - Yeah, I like to think that Merrick's gonna actually gestured him like, come on, come on, come here. Come on. And yeah, he's gonna hug everybody. And then he's gonna say, yeah, don't fuck it up. And he's gonna hand the bottle back to Caleb. - Before we leave the establishment, I imagine like everyone's getting ready to go. Coluna is also going to go down to the kitchen and they're gonna, they're going to demand hugs.

- From the staff? - Yes. Merrick said that they were like his family. So therefore they are Coluna's family too. So Coluna is hugging everyone except for Gregory. - Oh no. - Aww. - He knows what he did. - Gregory gets something special. - Oh no. - Oh boy. - So Coluna's going to go. They're gonna hug. They're gonna hug Janet. They're gonna hug Caleb. They're gonna, they're going to hug Jeremy and probably break his spine. And then they're gonna, they're gonna get to Gregory. - He's gonna get that valor special, isn't he? (laughing) - Oh no. - They're gonna. - Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap.

- How tall, how tall is Gregory, Jason? - Not very, probably around the five 10, five 11 mark. - So Coluna is going to lean up to get as much in his face as they can. And they're gonna say, you're mean. And they're gonna leave. - Ooh. (laughing) - That probably hurt more than any yelling that Mary could do. - You gotta roll a D4 for psychic damage. Come on. (laughing) - Five 11 is not tall. - It is. - You guys are just short. (laughing) - Only five 10. - Jason, you're six feet tall. That's not fair. - It's not, six two is not that tall. It's just. - It totally is. I think we never met a person who was that tall. - I've met someone taller, but the point is. - I think I've probably met someone taller too. - All right, I'm just gonna say like in Texas, yes you have. Yes you have. - I have met people who were in like eighth grade who were definitely that tall. - Yeah. - I don't know, they grew up in Texas. That's not fair.
