This is gonna be great. [laughter] And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what a second wind sounds like. [laughter] This is what second coffee sounds like. Oh, you're going hard. Yeah. Should have made coffee. So guys, here's what I'd like to do to start off today. I want all of us to walk through the gates of Winterhaven together. Welcome to the big city. I believe this is the first big city you guys have visited in Arc 2. Technically, you've come from Winterhaven to start this little quest. Now, when you got put on this little mission here to help with the Orcs, to do all that, it was a lady named Simone who sent you out kind of a facilitator for politics here in Winterhaven, because obviously the council members are really busy, and sadly, Nathaniel's kind of a recluse, and everyone knows it.

Doesn't really make any public appearances or anything like that. Most people don't ever get a chance to see them. So this is a pretty massive city with tons of stuff to do. I guess my first question to you guys is, getting back here, what would be the first thing you'd want to do? You've been on the road for so damn long. What time is it? I would say this would be later afternoon. Is there a tour bus? I think I'd like to go get paid. That is an excellent idea. That is a good idea. Seconded. Yeah, sounds good. Motion passed. Alright. I'm full of good ideas. So the offices of Winterhaven here, there's a lady named Simone LeBeau who would instantly recognize you coming back here.

You guys have been gone for quite a while here, the better part of a month, almost a full month, but it was obviously going to take you a while to get this done. And she's going to perk up the second, so she sees you walking through the door here. Welcome back to the city, everyone. How did everything go? Hey Simone. Well, I think in the end, we did find those orcs in the end and rescued them. They weren't dead. That is fantastic news. How did the orcs take it? They took it well. We also tried to improve the relationship with the orcs and everybody. And then I look around and I'm like, is there other people I need to tell?

I'm trying to think of like, would I know that this is just the person I should just report everything to or should I say, hey, this should go to a large group or... Well, the council's sort of a... Busy. Yeah, well, busy, yes. But basically anything you'd have to say to someone higher up, you could say to Simone because she's the one who runs all this up the ladder. I guess. Is it good that I'm speaking here or should it be like... Oh, yeah, you're fine. All right. I don't know if it was like a little space or not. No, this would be kind of a private office type thing.

OK, cool. I didn't know if I was out. Here's a bunch of people in a recruiting area. Oh, no, no, no, no. Let me just tell you everything. All right. OK, cool. So if it is, we'll just wind it back up there. Yeah, it was really good. My companions and I, we brokered a deal amazingly with the orcs. Shouldn't be any fighting between the orcs and the elves at the forest or even any clear cutting. So, yeah. Also, I pull out the papers for about the Aladrin slavery plans and I hand that over to her to read. We found this also while freeing the orcs. Seems like slavers have a lot more than orcs on their minds.

Well, this is troubling. Quite. Hmm. Well, let me run all of this up the ladder and and see what I can tell you. There might be something else your group could go do if you were interested. I think we would be, but maybe it arrests a little bit first before we just head on out. Of course. Of course. Please. If there's anything we can do for you, please, please let us know. It looks like your mission was exceedingly successful. Well, I mean, it seems like we went a little above and beyond. So if you could talk with the council and see if a little bonus could be thrown in, we wouldn't mind.

And then looks over, looks back. Street face. Leave this. I'm just going to see what happens. She's going to she's going to give a bit of a smile. Of course. I'll see what I can do. Leroy. I would imagine unless I need to ask a very important question. He was he would try to stick with you the entire time unless you explicitly told him go away. And even then, probably he'd put up a fight. He's with us right now. Unless the group was very adamant about telling him to go away. I would have thought we would have said, hey, wait out here one minute. Well, maybe like as we came in to go to see Simone, he'd be like, hey, wait right here.

Did you want to get the thing settled? Do you need to go and prep for anything for the show? Mm hmm. Let's shoot. And I'm like, this is our other business. We'll get wrapped up and then we can. Right. So then while you guys are dealing with this, he's he's outside. Pretending very hard that he doesn't want anybody to recognize him. Like just, oh, well, that type of thing, like kind of almost speaking to himself, but loudly. Well, it's been a while since I've been back in winter. That type of thing, like making a show of it, just being being very Leroy. Yeah, in that case, maybe I just address Simone one last time.

Well, in fact, there might be one more thing that you could help us with, if you don't mind. But we met a renowned impresario, screenwriter, actor. And we're trying to facilitate his next play here in Winter Haven. So if you know of any places he could set up or any promotional material we could distribute around town, that kind of thing, that could help the guy out. Hmm. Well, are they any good? Because we might have just the thing, actually. I hear is the best. That's that's actually fantastic news. We we actually have a visitor from Esterhold coming and.

Do you think that they might be able to put something together within a week? Definitely. We could we could pay them, of course, for the for the rush job, but if they could put on a show, that would be amazing entertainment. It could show a nice level of culture for Winter Haven. And yes, that would be amazing. I'll run that up the chain. Amazing. Thank you. Thank you. And she's going to be like you can tell that this is a thing. It's like this. Oh, my. This solves so many problems for us. Thank you. That that's a big deal. All right. All right. So she's going to disappear here for a moment.

Is there anything you'd like to do while she's out of the room? Scope the place out. I'll look over to Donovan the best. That's what he said. I mean, when I when I saw him in the past, he was amazing. I mean, I mean, did you smell him recently? I mean, not that far away. You can smell that alcohol. Alcohol is a sign of a great creator. Trust me on this. I'm from Brightport. I'll trust you on this one, Donovan. And I slowly look away. Speaking of alcohol, is there any like is there any around in the room? In the room? No, this is more of a this is more of a work setting.

At least it doesn't appear to be any out out in the open. Now, if you're looking to snoop. Always. Well, I don't think I can do it very stealthily. Yeah. How big is this room with five people in it? Well, that's I think more. That's what I'm asking. It's like, would would Masuka try to hide it from the rest of the group? Just kind of like just just looking around that type of thing. Or is it more just blatantly, OK, while she's out of the room, let's look around. No, I could probably casually do it like, you know, like if there's books or whatever, pull out a book, look at it, you know, put it back.

And if he happens to see something, you know, try to pocket it. Sure. You know what? Do me a favor. Give me a stealth check. All right. Oh, that's actually not bad at all. So that's a 19. So I'd say mostly you're going to be looking around on on her desk, right? She's got this little this little desk set up and there's going to be papers and such. And one of the things you're going to notice is that Winterhaven has been having a bit of trouble with the the Minotaur recently. There has been a recent call for a shift in leadership, but the previous leader doesn't want to step down.

I guess they had something worked out. Things fell through and portions of the Minotaur are leaving to live in Ebony Harbor, which is seen as a bit of a betrayal. They are not happy with living in Thunderspire. They never have been. It's been a it's been a big deal and I guess it's been causing problems for the surrounding farmlands of Winterhaven, for people out tracking or hunting, things like that. Any brush with the Minotaur have been very tense, sometimes very threatening. That's been a big deal recently. Here's the thing. Soka doesn't read very well.

So if he wants to know what it says, he's going to have to blow his cover. And I think the only person that would be OK with him stealing is Donovan. So, yeah, you know what he's all about. Yeah, I'm just trying to assess the situation. OK, well, he would assume it's OK. So did you actually take the paper or did you like were you just glancing? What I'd like to do is is take it and then as I walk by Donovan, like slip it into his pocket. What I notice, are you hiding it without me noticing? No, I want you to notice. Oh, I would slap your hand and just say, put that back.

OK, can I ask a question? Is this something that Masoka just can't turn off? Is it just the thing that's like, well, I mean, she left this alone. Time to snoop. Is it just that was was there something Masoka was looking for or was it just like this is just an opportunity? I need to take it. It's an opportunity. He can't he can't help it. He's been doing it since since he could use his hands. Gotcha. Yeah. And sometimes the best course of action is to let Masoka take something. And sometimes it's the opposite. So he's kind of a borderline kleptomaniac. Yes. OK.

Text book. I don't think it's borderline. He's a full on. Oh, OK. I love I love that he can like it's it's he's gotten so good that he's gotten other people not to notice. Like I could just see the scene where it's like, oh, he was looking at this book and it was just like perfectly time where everyone was looking away. So does he sit design and say that? Yeah. No, no, no, no. There's no time. Read it. I'll read it. I'll read it now. But you put it back. I skim through it just like that. Minotaur, minotaur, yada, yada, yada, don't inspire, not happy, yada, yada, yada.

And then like gives it back to Masoka. Does he read it out loud? Yeah, like not super loud, but like for the for the group. Oh, so now the whole group knows how to eat this? Yeah. Sharp head look back. What? Ever thought of Minotaur? No. Could be money in there. What is the orc minotaur relationship like? Almost non-existent. They don't really have a lot of run ins with one another. Now, back in the day, they used to. The minotaur actually used to have the stone center mountain. They got driven out. Yeah. So but these days, they don't really they probably wouldn't like each other very much if they saw each other, but very little interaction.

OK, Ubu then does not voice any particular opinion. I mean, I get where you're going with this, but I think we've been we've gone above and beyond enough for this month. And we should focus on your stage debut instead. And why don't we put that paper back before she comes back into the room? Oh, yes. Also that. Please. And she heard me say that. All right, I'll put it back. Yeah, I'll put it back. Just try now. The group. Thank you, Mazoka. Yeah. So Simone's going to come back after time. I have excellent news for the group. I was able to negotiate a pay raise.

Three hundred and fifty gold for the entire job. You did such an amazing thing and we cannot thank you enough. Much appreciated. That is very generous of the city of Winterhaven. Thank you. I also spoke to them about this playwright. Yes, playwright is the word I was looking for earlier. Well, we have a space available. It's it hasn't been used in a while. It's it's not the most amazing stage, but with a little love and care, we could be ready in a week. We could we could start to prep it. Yeah, excellent. It will take literally anything. That is fantastic. And she's going to be furiously scribbling things down, right?

One more thing. Is this being handled by you, the show itself, actors, extras? Is there anything that you need from us? Ampit is totally letting Donovan, like, take this whole thing. He looks over at Donovan. All right. Well, I still need to discuss exactly the resources we're going to need with the playwright. But if there is any any sorts of costumes we could use, repurpose some armors or weaponry that you have on hand ready for maybe for extras, just temporarily, of course. And then if there's a way that we could spread the word around, that would be immensely helpful.

But beyond that, I think we got this covered. Well, here's what I can do. I can secure you a small percentage of ticket sales and then pay you for all of your time and effort. If this is successful, I can't promise anything up front, but if this is an entertaining show and our guest from Esterhold is happy with it, then we can definitely pay you for all of your time and trouble. I think we can work out a deal like this. That's perfect. Can I ask who this most honored guest from Esterhold is? Oh, we're actually expecting the mayor of Esterhold. It's quite a big deal.

We just wanted to entertain her and make sure that this is a pleasant trip. Wonderful. Sorry. We'll make sure that she never forgets this thing. Like Susan cracked. I hope this is a train wreck for Pre. Right. So with all that wrapped up, is there anything else you guys wanted to discuss? I think we'll probably turn to Ubo after all this. That's a lot of pressure on us. Are you sure we should do this? Why? Because she said if it's bad, we don't get paid. Well, I mean, that's that's business, Maz. So just make it good. We will be very good at acting. Just follow Ubo's lead.

OK. Think of it like this. If you didn't do it, you weren't going to get paid anyway. So this is just a chance for payment. An opportunity. You'll shrug. If you try hard enough, maybe you'll even steal the show. I got that one. In closing, she would say something like, oh, we're expecting really big things from this playwright. We can't wait to see what the performances and everything that you have to show. Just really hyping this up. And other than that, she'd let you guys go. All right. I'm good. Who did she hand the money to? Hmm. You know what? Hold on a second.

It would probably be Anven. No, no. And then you would split it equally with the group. 58.3333333333. So if you guys are coming out, Leeroy would be waiting with bated breath. Well, how did it go? It went amazing. You have a stage. You have the support of the city. You have organized ticket sales. We're going to get a cut. And you just need to make the play of your lifetime and performance as well. And yeah, they're expecting a lot from you. So I hope you got it in you, man. Also, you got a week. Oh, yes, you got a week. And we're putting on a show for the mayor of Esterholt.

As you're laying this out for him, his jaw is going to start to drop more and more. One week. Yeah. Well, you want. Well, I've done more with less. I'm sure we can make this work. If you need anything to help you out, you just ask me. I'll make it happen. All right. Why do you look scared? You have Ubo, you have us. That's like mostly done. You just need words now. I have been taking the temperature of the city. Things have changed a little since the last time I was here. I may need to make a few revisions to what I was writing, but I think I am on the right track.

You said I have all of you, correct? Yeah. Within reason. Only if I could only if I could read the script first. He's going to look partially offended. Don't you trust me? I have to keep the best interest of my friends in mind before I commit. I completely understand. How about this? Give me one day to explore the space to to finish my first draft and we can do a rehearsal. How does that sound? Yeah, you got one day. After that, if it's not there quite yet, we'll be on your back, man. Quite. I'm sure this will go swimmingly, though. If you need help, Anvin here is really good with writing, it seems.

And also he's very funny, so it's probably going to be a big help. So just turn to him, if you need anything. Yeah, he's written a whole book of play should be nothing, right? Thanks, Donovan. Thanks, Aster. I will be sure to pick his brain. Well, if you would have told him where the space was. Because you would have been told that. Yeah. Yeah. Do we know specifically where? Do we know specific like the do we know us players where it is? Like like an address? Well, I mean, like it's next to the the the inn. It's next to the city gates, like, oh, generally, it would be near the thin bear, which is a which is a bar.

OK. And what's the address? That's where my tax returns. Oh, my God. So he would you tell him where it is. Well, I'm going to go explore the space and I can't wait to see all of you there. And he's got a point specifically at Masaoka Unuubo. You two are going to be amazing. And he would he would take his leave, he would he would let you guys be. I look around. Oh, go ahead. I just can say I think I'm so good just kind of staring blankly because, you know, running through his head, he's like, what if I screw up? What if I screw up? I think that's going to look around at the party and just say, hmm.

Anyone else got the feeling that this place is going to be kind of racist? Yes. Like, Maddie, legitimately, that is her response. Her arms are crossed and she looks disapproving. All right. Great. Awesome. I'll just give him a day and then maybe we'll help him punch it up. What do you mean? You got a vibe? Well, he seems old fashioned and well, old fashioned people tend to react like he did when they see things have changed. So, yeah, I'm getting it. I'm getting an inkling. I heard things about this city's history. So. OK. Yeah, like what? Oh, they had run ins with was it when was that?

Two years ago or more. Wasn't there like some huge war on the West Coast? I don't know. I don't read the papers, but I know. I just kind of kiss him like a look. Maddie, too. There was certainly something that happened. OK, so, you know, tensions. Images of dragons go into Ammon's mind two years ago. Images of fighting on the front lines pop into Maddie's mind. Images of an entire forest burned down. And then images of chilling on the rooftop goes into Donovan's mind. Right. Yeah. So there's a tavern near the stage. Does anyone want to possibly get a drink? Relax while we then figure out what we're in for.

Donovan grabs you by your shoulder and says, that's a wonderful idea. It's on me. Do you feel comfortable going alone in the city? Maddie's going to smirk and she's going to be like, yeah, I've been here a few times. Nice. Can I go with you, Maddie? Of course. Oobonauts. Let's split in the party. It's safe. And they're quick errands. Yeah. That's OK. How about you? Oh, yeah, I'm in. Just always assume I'm in. Don't take too long, Maddie. Will do. And she is like a little salute and then nods like is the head nod and a direction to Ubo and starts walking that way.

He falls along. I smirk and start making my way to the little bear and then there's a thin bear. All right. Let's go feel the space. Oh, hey, Esther. Yeah, I was just going to say before we head over to the tavern, do we want to make sure we got a place to stay first? Oh, well, OK. You guys got a couple of options. So as far as inns go here in the city, there's a couple of different ways you can go with it. There's one called the Fancy Gentlemen, which is like a nice, like three, four star place. It's it's it's a little pricier, but it's a really nice inn full service.

Really nice place. Then there's something called the Nest, which is a much more modest version of of of that kind of a one star establishment. But way cheaper. Do you know if Amvin has like a living place here or since he basically lives in Winterhaven? Well, yeah, I'd imagine you'd have you'd have a little place. Yeah. Yeah. That's probably why I didn't think of it. Yeah, that's makes sense. You have a home here. You live here in the city. Yeah. You know, they what they would have what they would have given since I know it was like the rebuilding and or what I would have obtained.

You know what? Let's roll a flat d20 and see what the lovely city of Winterhaven worked out with Amvin after after all the stuff that that went down towards the end of arc one and everything like that. Give me a flat d20 roll. All right. Oh, serves me right for even asking the hotels. Do you have a house? No, it's right next to the best. It's like it's like the fact that he technically has. I mean, do you know what the rent goes up for these days in the Winterhaven? That's big city living. That's the problem. So that's a five for everybody out there at home, which is a very modest home.

That doesn't mean it's in bad shape, but we will roll for that in just a moment. What that this is more the general size and scope of this, which for Amvin makes total sense. It's just it's just a guy, right? Just just kind of so and you're out on the road a lot. So this is this one of the things like, OK, this is where I hang my hat. This is where I come home. So it's a it's a cozy it's a cozy little place. Do me a favor. Roll a flat d20 to see what kind of shape it's in before I give you a description. High roll high roll. This is going to be a persona five attic.

Oh, wow. OK. And game attic. Nice bookshelves of all my books, like everything's pristine except for my bed. I got my solid gold house and my rocket car. I am. So lives in Nokus's carriage. That's a 20. It's on a similar block. Oh, goodness. So, yeah, this place lacks in size. It more than makes up for in amenities and how cozy and nice it is. It's a warm place. It's airtight. There's no draft. There's. Yes. So this is a really nice little place now for the entire party to stay here. It would be a bit cramped. I'm not going to lie, but totally doable. I got a plan.

Oh, no. That sounds bad. Well, where Matty's going to stay depends upon if there is a temple of a monitor in town. Oh, sure. Yeah. Then she'll stay there knowing that Anven doesn't have much room. I mean, if other people aren't staying there and Anven's offering it for free, like, Astro will absolutely bug their thing. Oh, that is a thing. I don't think Anven ever technically did. Yeah. I want to say, like, coming into the place, I would say, you know, I've got a little place. It's open for anyone who wants to. It's not anything amazing, but it is a little place.

I think so could probably stay there to. Harrison, some books. The two roads. OK. One of them can't barely don't have anything shiny. Sleep with two eyes open. The shiny stuff is probably like the embellishing on my book covers. Like, if you take something from his friend, he will give it back. He's going to steal a copper wire from her walls. It was like that when I found it on it. So, OK, what about Ubo? Ubo is the only one who hasn't jumped in with a preference. Ubo is not with them, though. Let's say that this was offered beforehand, before everyone split up.

Yeah. I mean, he'd prefer everyone kind of stay in the same spot just for, you know, safety's sake and not anyone like getting lost or separated. But yeah, I mean, if if Maddy's determined to stay at the temple, I guess, I don't know, Maddy, have we done this before? Was Ubo welcome? I'm pretty sure. Probably the last time we were in Winterhaven, we both stayed there. Yeah, that sounds about right to me. OK, yeah, then, yeah, I guess Ubo would go with kind of their regular arrangement. All right. So let's start with going to the thin bear. Let's let's let's let's do that first.

Can I do something first? Yeah. Just on the walk there. I'm sure you had a plan. No, hit me. On the plan. On the plan. On the walk there. So it's going to pull out a pipe and a little pouch and he's going to stuff something into the pipe. And light it up. And breathe in. It's good to look at Anthony Donovan. He wants him. It helps me relax. It's blackgrass, right? It's definitely blackgrass. Yeah. Is this the first time I've ever seen him do that? Yes. Are you doing this on the street? Yes. OK. Is that not normal? It's probably illegal. Yeah, it's a little. Amven stops walking and they like walk a few feet ahead.

Not with us. I don't think you should be. I walk up closer. I don't think you should do that out in the open. Why? Yeah. Yeah, I guess we're not in Brightport anymore. Better get a vibe for the city. Feel for the vibe here in the city before. You don't want the guards like being on your tail all the time. Profiling you. I just sorry. I just assumed. I mean, it's fine in Brightport. Well, in the slums, it's fine. Yeah, well, I guess we're more progressive. It's not their fault. OK, OK. I'll have some later. OK, I'll save some. Amven, I apologize. It's not a problem. Just being aware of everything.

I'll let you go do it wherever you want to. I can understand the need to relax and continues walking. OK. I'll take one more big haul first. Just keep on walking. I was just going to shoot him a look like really, like right after. Just just just do some later at Amven's place. Is Daster there too? Yeah. Then he would he would offer them to. No. They're not going to say anything. No. You'll just pack it away. So when you guys get to the thin bear. It's it's actually it's a do me a favor. Give me a perception. Oh, wow. Holy Lord, everyone. Hey, that's not sure you didn't have some.

I'm the only one not proficient in it. Yeah, that's what it is. So when you get there, I imagine you're ever with somebody and they're like, oh, this looks like a nice place. But everyone else in the group is like, this kind of looks like a dive bar, like that type of thing. And I think that's what like everyone would be like, oh, yeah, that's the thin bear. I've been here before. It's fine. Exactly right. It's like this is this is my cheers. This is my this. This is just where we go like this is, you know, and I think everybody else would kind of look at it like, huh?

This this can do some work. Jason, compared to the normal place in Brightport, though. Well, OK, that's fair. It's like four levels of reference. You know what? That is fair, because the three of you are probably used to far worse. Right. This is. Yeah. Yeah. I would look I would look at like Amven's reaction and then look at the other two and just go like smile. Breathe in. Go like, I'm home. There's Amven sees this is like this is where everything began after I left Ubin. You like it's a. Well, yeah, that's special for him. It's got sentimental value. Exactly.

Nice. And technically friends with the owner, at least they talk. Talks to everybody. You're kind of connected to Malchus. I think that's like celebrity. Almost. How many patrons are in the bar right now? Right now, there's there's about 15, I'd say. Like it's semi-packed, like not not not standing room only, definitely. But there's some people in here and it's going to be as you walk in, there'd be a couple of people walking out. But they have like bruises like like one of them has a black eye. The other one kind of has like a like a bloody lip, but they're kind of palling around with each other like I like that type of thing as they're walking out.

Like they're clearly in a good mood, even though it clearly looks like they were in a fight. All right. I'm going to I'm going to tell them. All right. Fellas, don't leave right now. Just yet. Just hold on one second. And he's going to grab a chair that's nearby or like a bench, just hop on a bench and just yell for everyone to hear. Nexron's on me for everyone. Oh, how many people are in the bar? 15, about 15. They'd be if you're calling these two guys who are walking in, 17, somewhere in there, everyone's going to everyone's going to let loose with this this crazy cheer.

Just like, "Yay! All right. That's that's fantastic." I like I look at the bartender and kind of like wink and do like finger guns in their direction. And he would he would he would look to you for a taller guy with a beard and he would he would he would look over and then just go, "All right." And I would I would mouth the words cheapest. And he'd kind of get the subtlest nod, like. And he would he would start to pour. He'd also see Amven and wave him over. "Amven!" And then I yell over Donovan, "That's a nice thing you did there, Donovan." Oh, don't thank me.

Thank next week's play that's going to be for the ages. And everyone's here is invited. Yes, that. That gets slightly less of a cheer. Well, you're still invited. And the guy behind the camera is like, "To be clear, you're paying, not the play, right?" I mean, I'm paying the trinks. OK, OK. Is he like halting mid pour? Yeah, just like he's like on the second one, it's like, "Wait a sec." "Oh, what can I get you fellas? And sorry, what can I get you all?" I think as you guys are filing in, like obviously, like he's going to lock eyes with Amven and then like as everyone else, like like Donovan has made a huge spectacle of himself.

And then like he kind of sees the group follow it. It's like, "Oh, sorry." Is there like a bowl of nuts or something on the bar? Yeah, there's probably something to snack on. Yeah. OK. But Mr. Stoke is going to go directly to the bowl and start shoveling it in his mouth. And I'll look at, look at him and say, "Oh, my usual," which is usually an ale with a juice chaser, which was what I think Theo had. Yeah. So it's basically his reminiscent of ale and a juice. So, you know what sucks? No one from the old group is in town right now. I know. That could be a lot of fun to roleplay, but they're not in the city at the moment.

We went towards the orcs off the base going away, past each other on the road. So, yeah, he's going to he's going to get you guys he's going to get you guys some beverages and stuff like that. And he's he'd probably he'd probably play out Masoga. Can I get you something to eat? Maybe? No, no, no. These are excellent. Skull splitter. And can you feel this too? And you'll hand him his flask with skull splitter. That's what he drinks. Holy shit. OK. And as he's getting everything together, is this one tab or separate or how are we doing this? I'll take care of mine and Masoga's tab.

Oh, thank you. Yeah, I'll get my my big round of your finest, cheapest ale. And also, give me something local for myself. Hmm. I think I have just the thing. And he's going to he's going to get everything sorted here. So in total for Donovan, it would be about 12 gold. In total, just for that. Yeah. And in total for Masoga and in Amven, it would be about eight. Astor is not going to drink, actually. I don't think spare. Not their thing? Not in an unfamiliar city, no. And also the babysitters out of out of town away, for example. Well, Donovan was still when when the when the round gets like passed to everyone, he would nudge Astor's mug towards them.

And like, just not his head forward. Like, come on. Astor will like take it and do like kind of like a cheers motion to take a small sip. Oh, it's all I wanted. It's all find a table. Do me a favor one more time. Give me a perception check. A little bit better. Yeah. I believe Astor and Amven would be the first to hear this, but it's going to sound like there's a commotion underneath the bar, like in the basement area of the bar. And what it sounds like is kind of shouting every once in a while and. And a bit of a scuffle. I'd say Astor would pick this up more than anybody, but it sounds like it sounds like fighting almost.

That's going to pique their interest. They're going to kind of like, like just like kind of like ask, like, did anyone else here hear that? I think I would know that there's a fighting ring. Yeah, if you're a regular here, that's a that is a feature. So check this out. So a few years back, this this got started and it started as, you know, a couple of friends screwing around and, you know, they wanted to find out who was tougher and then it kind of ballooned from there. But the big thing was it's kind of illegal in the city. Not that long ago, Winterhaven has essentially turned a blind eye to this as long as no one gets seriously hurt.

So now now it's kind of on Asura, the guy running the bar, to make sure that there are rules to everything and that no one gets to to hurt in the process. And as long as no one complains, they can they can do this. But they hold tournaments here. There's the only other thing is you can't gamble on it. That's that's the only thing. But that doesn't stop people from doing that. So how would Amphen like relay that? Be like, oh, that's just the fighting ring downstairs, like offhandedly like, oh, yeah, yeah, that thing. That thing I never partake in. And the master is going to kind of raise an eye.

I didn't realize that Winterhaven was that kind of city. It seems a bit out of place, I guess. Hmm. I think it's more morale boosting. Sometimes you get sometimes people get cabin fever and they just let it out. And it's better than getting taking a brawl outside and landing up in the jail overnight. So it's less like pitting slaves against each other to the death kind of thing. Whoa, that got dark. More like, hey, I think I'm stronger than you and I've had a lot to drink. So let's see who can make who pass out first. Huh? Interesting. Astra's going to kind of glance towards Donovan and Misoka just to see if they what they think of that.

Donovan's kind of rubbing his chin. I would be a bummer if we broke our hands before the play, though. Maybe after. Yeah, I guess that makes sense. So good. Be kind of nodding his head as he's hearing all this information. Can we go watch? Yeah, can we? Astra's like looking towards Eben like, where do we go? Eben who had like a passing thought about it, like, oh, oh, you guys are actually oh, you're still talking about that. Oh, yeah, sure. I don't know who's fighting. So, yeah, let's we could do that. Um, y'all go ahead. I'll just stay here and make friends.

How do you do that, buddy? Wink. How's about we catch up with Ubo and Mattie? Much less exciting. And then a fistfight breaks out in the church. Yeah, exactly. Well, before they go to the church, Mattie wanted to drop off a letter with the postman. Oh, OK. Let me write this down. What kind of letter? A letter to her sister. Since they're both on their pilgrimage, though, I think they both agreed just to send all letters to Aubrey because they don't know where each other are at. That makes sense. I will write this down. Does Ubo want to do anything while we're out and about?

He's just kind of following along with you. If you're like asking about it, he's just kind of like Winterhaven is crowded. I don't like the tighter spaces. It would be tighter still in the bar. Yeah. Well, it looks like we're going to be here for a week. You're the one who wanted to act in the play. I am strong like the mountain. I will not be defeated by any looks kind of around it like anybody milling around the streets. Crowds. And I'm sure that you will defeat them heartedly. Let's drop off our things at the temple and then head to the bar. Maybe they'll have I think they have Skull Splitter there.

So might not be all that. No, I was going to say she is really going to drop off like all her things, like even her armor. Maybe she might keep a weapon on like a maybe she acquired a dagger. I don't know. But like street clothes and everything. Yeah, they'd be safe there at the temple. No one's going to touch him. Yeah, I figured a cleric of a monitor would be pretty cool in a monitor. Simple. Let me ask you guys a question. Would you like to kind of simulate the rest of the day? You guys are hanging out. You're relaxing, basically getting a tune with the city.

And we can jump forward tomorrow and rehearse for this play. Or or we could just hang out, hang out some more in the bar. Big fight. And I want to see how drunk Masoge gets on Skull Splitter. That's it. That's all. Ubo might get talked into fighting, too, by the time he gets to the bar and sees a chance to prove his strength. They could fight each other and ruin the play completely. Yeah, I'm willing to see how all this plays out. Donovan's probably going to take like a roleplay backseat for the next few days. But I just want to give you like a breakdown of what I'm thinking for for him, how he spends his days, or at least today.

OK, well, it sounds like everyone wants to do the rest of the bar thing, so we can we can do that and then kind of then check in. Sweet. OK, so let's say let's say Maddie and Ubo catch up with everybody at the bar. I'm guessing there it sounds like pretty much everyone is downstairs except for Donovan. Seems like it. OK, with Donovan filled them in. Yeah, yeah, for sure. Hey, good to see you. Finally, you made it. The rest of the gang is downstairs, possibly fighting, so I'm sure they'd like to see you there. Fighting? Yeah, I hear there is quite a sport going on downstairs.

I think I think it's I think we shouldn't be talking about it. It's one of those kind of things. Is that the first rule? Possibly. I'm legally not allowed to say yes. I guess it does. Does Maddie know? Maddie probably knows about this. Probably, yeah, it's not a it's not a very well kept secret. OK. I guess you do you want to see people punch each other's daylights out, Ubo? That happens nearly every day in work camps. It will feel like home. Well, then let's let's head downstairs and get that nostalgia going for you. Ubo just kind of cracks his knuckles and moves toward the stairwell.

So paint us a picture down there, Jason. Well, OK. Now, normally this would be just a typical basement, something something used for storage, you know, casks and barrels, things like that. But this is going to smell like sweat. It's going to smell like it's going to even mustier than a basement usually feels. And there's going to be a few people here. Not not not a bunch. This isn't you get in the sense that this isn't like a prime day for this or something. But there are going to be some people here and it's going to be a couple of gentlemen fist fighting when you get down there.

And they're just wailing on each other. Big open, big open strikes. No, no elegance to it. No, it's basically we got drunk and we're settling something. This looks to be maybe a little more animosity on it than, say, a friendly competition. So it's probably either an argument or, you know, two people who have just been waiting for an excuse. And then eventually there's going to be a guy with longer hair and a guy with shorter hair. The guy with longer hair is going to knock the other one out. Everyone's going to kind of let loose this cheer. I'd say in the audience right now, there are probably about seven people.

Not not super packed. And as you as you as you walk into this, this this this little establishment downstairs, there's going to be there's going to be a guy. Hey, how you doing? Pointedly, he is going to be locking eyes with Matty. Name's Chad. Oh, my God. Hi, Chad. Like she says it like that, too, like fancy meeting you in the underground fight club. But she's like side glancing. She's not giving him her full attention. Got it. And he's going to kind of pull back a little bit. So any of you guys want to fight or kind of sizing you up as you walk in? He is pointedly he's he's pointedly like looking away from like the people who look like they could really put up a fight.

So pointedly looking away from like Ubo, pointedly looking away from, you know, like probably Masoke even looking at Ambitches. Probably, yeah. He's like leaning to the side. Yeah. Like looking at everything. Meanie, meanie, miney Ambitches. Like just kind of. Is this like he wants to fight? I was asking or if we just in general want to fight more in general, like like like a sign up sheet type of thing, like it's OK without like a clipboard and stuff more just like, yeah, ranging things, that type of thing. And every once in a while he is still he is still looking at Maddie.

And Maddie is watching the fight. How is he looking at Maddie? The word I would use is lustfully. Oh, OK. Yes. In an underground nightclub. That's where you pick up chicks and nothing. Nothing brings it all together like the stench of sweat. Yeah. And blood flying. There you either punch right or you punch left. Ubo Ubo is kind of sizing up the competition. Is there anyone in here who like looks like they'd be a solid challenge to him? There's again, this is kind of a lean night. And if you were to be told stories about this place, it's like, oh, yeah, man, there's people from there's people from all walks.

They come here to test their test their strength. And like, though, there are people there there are people like Chad who are just kind of looking to win a fight to impress someone or something like that. So they'll pick on someone literally not their size. But there are minotaurs that come here. There are half orcs. There are, you know, like big bruisers that come here. This looks like a lighter evening, though. This looks like Ubo could probably wail on a few people. Yeah, he's. If no one here looks like they'd be a good fight, he's kind of like less excited.

He's kind of let down. He's actually like, like, you know. This is what you bring me? That's it. Yeah. Yeah. Like, like maybe when I get back to orc country, I'll get a proper fight club. Yeah. If it looks generally unimpressive, he just kind of he just grunts and goes, I'm going back up to get skull splitter. Oh, that's. So most focus was focused. He's Chad looking at Matty. And he'll turn to Ubo and he'll be like, Hey, have mine. OK, yeah, Ubo takes it and gets started drinking at it. And he'll look Chad square in the eyes. I'll fight you. Oh, whoa. You're new here, right?

Sure. Just got here. Come on, man, I feel like I'd be taking advantage. I mean, look at you. No offense. I mean, I'm I'm I'm sure you're great or whatever, but come on. And then walks up. Hey, but look, are you going to fight him? Well, I'm trying to, but the guys, I don't know, I he's trying to get out. I think he's chicken. He's going to look offended like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. And then he's going to look over at Matty, who's shaking her head. What? You know what? Fine. Let's do it. Let's go. This will be good. Masoka, do the thing again where you are terrible at fighting at first, but then you are better.

Yes, it always throws them off. He's just going to clasp his hands together and rub them like, all right, all right, let's do this. OK, I'll have my healing spells ready. Like she starts taking out components for the spells. I go up to Masoka and then I give him a handshake saying, you can do this, and I give him my spells, Enhance Ability Strength. Oh, I was going to do that, too. Then you have to do the urine test to see if you test positive for Enhance Ability Strength. I'm going to do the urine test. I'm going to do the urine test. Because Masoka might be offended.

Oh, really? Well, you know, because he thinks he can take this guy no problem. Because he's drunk and high. Yeah. I forgot about the high part. Always get into fistfights when you do drugs. It's called protecting an investment. Yeah, I would definitely say that Masoka would notice. I'm still just going to have healing spells already. If he notices during the shake hand, he'll be like, "No, no, no, no, no, no, no. No, thank you. I got this. It's good. Trust me. This guy's nothing." Then look at you. Are you sure? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I'll be fine. Trust me.

Trust me. Okay. And then I give a thumbs up and as I do it, I basically fade out the magic. You can do this. Yeah. I got it. I got it. Thank you. And he'll start doing that box, loosening up and bouncing around. So here's what we're going to do to simulate this fight. It's pretty simple. You guys are going to take turns rolling each round. There's going to be just both of you are going to roll strength checks. Whoever has a higher one is going to deal D. Let me see. What is your? Oh, wow. Your modifier is bad. It's a negative, right? Because it's a strength check.

Yeah, it's a negative. It's a negative two. Oh, no. So, yeah. It's appropriate. It is appropriate. Oh, my God. You're more sad. He just he just want to lose. So he's going to skip on play duty. I'm sure that's what he's doing. Do you know what it is? It's it's so he'll have injuries and spend more time with Matty. That could be a two. Yeah, it could be a little column A, a little column B. So that's why he didn't bunk in my my house after all. All right. Are we ready to do this? Yes. OK, do me a favor. Give me a strength check and Chad will do the same. Is there like rules that were laid out or anything like that?

Yeah, I would imagine if you guys are climbing into the ring here, there's like a little makeshift ring. There's like actual ropes around it and stuff like that. And it's probably obviously no weapons. If someone falls down or quits or whatever, the fight's over because they're really trying to mitigate like hardcore serious injuries. Right. This isn't this isn't a fight to the death. It's yeah. So if someone quits or or surrenders or something like that, that the fight is over. OK. And I'm guessing Masoka would agree to all that. Yeah. Yeah. He'll lay down his daggers and be like, all right, let's go, Chad.

Does Masoka like rip his shirt off in the ring? Oh my God. His only shirt. No, before he would have taken it off. OK, OK. Yeah. So he's going in there. Is he like putting is he making a show of it for Matty? Do you oil up? Like, like, you know, corner of his eye to see if she's looking at him. Yeah. You guys are literally in the center of the room about to fistfight. Yeah. Probably a safe bet. Flexing is minus two strength muscles. You do know Matty's like all muscles, so she's probably like nothing compared to five. Yeah. Yeah. Let's paint a picture. What is what does Masoko look like in terms of like, OK, so shirtless Masoko paint a picture?

Well, he's tall and slender, like an Aladdin. Fairly pale. He's got scars all over his back. Oh. Yeah, just there, maybe a couple here and there on the front, but you'd notice like it would stand out. He's got multiple scars all over his back. OK, so more toned, not like show muscle type of thing. Yeah, fit from real life stuff, you know? Right. Not like he like spends time working out or whatever. He's strong because his job required it, you know? Right. I'd say Chad, shirtless, is ever so slightly more muscular. Probably like a push ups, weightlifting type of dude.

Kind of a kind of a jock looking guy. Not crazy huge. Not a not a very, very large man. Like just in comparison to Masoko, Masoko looks a lot faster, a lot more lithe. Are we ready? Yep. So Chad's going to square up here with Masoko. It's like, you ready for this? Like kind of kind of psyching himself up, sniffling a lot, actually. Like, dude, I asked you to fight. That's going to stagger him for just a second. Oh, yeah. OK. All right. All right. Give me a strength check. All right. OK. OK. That's... Oh no. So that's a lot of strength. So that's a that's a seven to his sixteen.

So he's going to rear back and punch Masoko right in the face and deal four damage. Now, this is all accelerated because it's just a fistfight, no armor, no. So if the damage seems a little high, that's the only reason. It's just to get knocked out. It's not to the death, obviously. So if you were to drop to zero hit points, it's more to simulate you staggering, falling down, that type of thing. Right. OK. So that is that is four hit points. That's him just rearing back and punch right in the face. Do me a favor. Give me another strength check. Oh, gosh. These dice are low rolls.

Oh my goodness. That's... Then with the other fist, he's got it's just a one two combo. Just boom, boom. So four damage, five damage. OK. Now, for the third one. I'd say every third one, you're going to get advantage on the on the strength roll just because you're so damn fast that that's that's that's your your time to like, OK, like like a little like a nimble dodge or a weave or something like that and then try to swing. So do me a favor. Give me a strength check with advantage. Can I do something first? Sure. So. So it's going to be kind of like didn't expect this is all he was like, I can take this guy, no problem.

Right. So he's going to be kind of like a little shocked, like probably bleeding from his nose. So he's just like, what the hell? If I can do this, I'd like him to sort of like turn around and pull out. Those knuckles. Oh my God. Oh, very much so. Yes. Oh boy. Man. He didn't need any help. So would this be like a like a simulated like like he gets hit, turns around like he's getting like it's just like, oh, shit. Yeah, like he's stumbling and then just like fumbling around. And yeah, like maybe he gets it in the side of the face, turns and goes down on his knee.

OK, I'm going to let you know right off the bat that I'll let you do a stealth check for that. But if you get caught, the fight's going to be called. Oh, shit. OK. OK. Do me a favor. Give me a stealth check. Oh, come on. Plus six. Oh. So he's he's going to see you go for it. Do me a favor one more time. Give me give me that strength check with advantage. I want to see something. OK. Does everybody see him pull out brass knuckles? I would say he'd get he'd get as far as like my ability to pull out the knuckles. I would say he'd get he'd get as far as like maybe starting to grab them or something like that.

And Chad would try to call him out. So here's here's what we're going to do. Oh, my God. So, damn. Oh, shit. Minus two, man. So as as Masochist reaching in, he's going to spin around and and swing one more time and punch. Before the fight can be called. And do two damage. So, OK, that's something. Now, is this a thing that Masochi would pursue? Would Masochi keep going? Oh, yeah, absolutely. OK. Give me a favor. Give me another strength check. OK. So Chad's going to Chad's going to be a great party member. I know I'm not going to die, so no. So I'd say that the knuckles probably get dropped to the mat, that type of thing.

And he Chad is irate. Chad's you try to cheat me, bro. That type of thing that almost just just like you're trying to take something from Chad. Damn it. I wish I could use those. OK. Oh, God. Oh, wow. Oh, wow. No. Did you break something? I had. Yeah. Fumble roller for the listeners. That's a minus one total. Yeah. One equals minus one. Yeah. We don't we don't have to do the fumble table for these strength checks or something. But man, that is. You deserve it. Are you sure Masochi doesn't accidentally get decapitated? (laughter) Just as he falls off. You literally hang yourself in the ring ropes.

Three more damage to Masochi. Chad is this point is bouncing around like, come on, come on, let's go. That type of thing. Just like bouncing, jumping around that type of thing, really showing off. And he is going to lean over in the middle of the fight, lean out to the top of the ring ropes. In the middle of the fight, lean out toward Matty and blow a kiss. And I'm going to let you do a thing if you'd like. Does he see this? Oh, Masochi. It's going to be right in front of Masochi. Rage points? Well, here's what I'm going to let you do. I'm going to let you roll the next couple of attacks with advantage, or you could just grab the Nux and whale on them.

I'd like to grab the Nux. Okay. Now, to be clear, this will end the fight. That's fine. Okay. Now it's just about, like, he's just embarrassed, angry, raging out, drunk. Yeah. He just wants to kill this guy pretty much. So Chad's like, I got this fight in the bag, everything's great. He's going to lean in for, like, to Matty and kind of wink. What would Matty's reaction be? Well, when Matty saw brass knuckles fall into the ring, she got pissed. So her arms are crossed and she looks angry. Like, so that, him blowing the kiss just adds to her anger. So she just looks fucking pissed.

And then looks like he's trying to hold her back. Her arms are crossed and she's standing your ground, but it's like she's digging into her military stoicism, you know, like holding a line just like, oh, but there's fire in her eyes. Boy, howdy. So, Masoka's going to grab these and again, to paint a picture, these are beautiful. Kind of a brilliant white to them. They stick out, which is a problem because they don't blend in. It's not a thing that just kind of blends in with any skin tone, really. And they're made of this bone, this reinforced bone with these little nubs over where the knuckles would be.

These are going to hurt, Chad, if you hit them with them. And Masoka knows this. OK. So he's going to grab them and look up and say, hey, Chad, say hi to Toppo. Do me a favor, roll a flat d10. All right. So these are going to collide with Chad's chin and he's going to step back like, holy shit, like I would say the adrenaline of the situation is going to keep him going. He's going to want to come at you. Would this be a thing where Masoka would keep swinging or just the one solid punch? It's like I prove my point. No, he would keep going. OK. I want you to do me a favor and I want you to roll 2d10.

And then that would be the point where the fight is going to be like the fight is already called. It's like, OK, OK, so people are going to have to jump in the ring and separate you two because Chad is coming at you. But like, do you ever have you ever seen like a dude bro get really angry? What they do is they put their fists to the side and they come at you face first to yell. That is a terrible stance for fighting. OK. So Masoka is going to get two free swings while he's like, you want to go, you want to go. Like he's still asking if you want to fight.

So do me a favor, 2d10. All right. Holy shit. I'll take that. That's going to knock Chad out. And I'm thrown in jail. I have never seen that man. Sorry, Masoka, I can't bail you out. I spent everything on that room. It's OK, I got a lot of gold. I got a lot of gold. That Chad is my party member. I don't know what you're talking about. Oh, no, my friend Chad. Here's what's going to happen. So Chad is going to come at you just kind of really it's like you want to go that type of thing. Masoka just is so fast. Just bap bap real quick right the side of Chad's head. Chad is going to still kind of be flexing as his body goes limp and falls to the mat.

A bunch of patrons are going to jump in and separate you to just just make sure you can't hurt him anymore. And then the party is going to get ejected from the bar for the evening. Just because it's like, dude, you could have hurt him. We can't have that type of stuff in here. No weapons, no that type of thing. So you're not going to be arrested, but you will be ejected from the thin bear. Just just like, hey, you got to get the heck out of here. I'm sorry. You can't. Am I good, though? Well, OK, then let's do a thing. There will be a moment with us, right?

Not I mean. Sora would know. Yeah, I mean, he would speak with us. So I'd say I mean, only Matty and Ubo could potentially like if they wanted to stay, they could. That type of thing. Unless you're like, those are our party members as you're as you're being escorted out. Up to those guys, though, but. That would probably put a cap on the evening in terms of like in terms of your guys run in this bar. Everyone is upset. Like, Azer is a bit miffed. It's like, OK, now we got kicked out. That's is. Is. Misoka being dragged, like what what kind of state is he in?

Is he delirious? Is he like, you know, concussion? Like, is he like out of it? Oh, I'd say definitely bloody nose, probably probably a bloody lip, something like that, but not not so. I guess it depends on how much of a fight Misoka would put up, because if if they would eject you, it's like, you got to get out of here. That type of thing. If Misoka fought, they would carry you out forcefully. But is he like coherent? I'd say, yeah. Yeah. OK. Yeah, I'd say just hurt. OK. Probably his pride more than. No, no, no, he won. He's happy. I mean, you're conscious. I guess you did win.

He's a thief from Brightport. That's fair. Yeah. If you like if you like beat up a soccer team with a pipe and then kick the ball on the goal a few times, did you technically win a game of soccer? If it was Misoka, yes. Those are called Brightport rules. Yeah, really? This is the Brightport remix. Guys, I think that's a good time for us to stop for the evening. Just before we go, can I punch Misoka for getting me thrown out? I'm sorry. I don't need damage or anything. Just punch him. Like we're talking shoulder or face? Uh, I don't know. That's a long think. You could slap me.

Let's say a little sucker punch in the gut. Not too strong. Get the wind out. And for canon purposes, when he knocks him out and Maddie sees that he's still standing before they're even ejected, she's going to turn to Ubo and say there is no honor in that fight. You want to go? This has been a long fight. This has been a disappointing night. Indeed. Let's get some sleep. Like while he's being dragged out of the ring. So while he's being ejected, you guys left willingly. Just kind of like, "This is sad. Let's get out of here." That type of thing? Yeah. Interesting.

I can't wait. I cannot wait to see what happens. In the next little group conversation. Soak is kicked out of the group. No, that's not the case. You've done it. Malph has committed genocide and people still adventure with this. I was about to say, bars have been set. Holy shit. That was really fun though. Those dice were not on your side tonight. Oh man. There's a lot of variance on a d20. You would think you'd get something out of it. Nine, six, five. It got worse that time. One. You super stuck to your character. That was awesome. Dude, seriously. Sorry if I had to.

Yeah, he would never give up. Do you still have your knuckles? I would say yeah. The word "yours" is... The knuckles he acquired? I have this scene in my head where he's passed out on the floor drooling with his knuckles still on. I'm just writing in my writing table and Donovan's just looking with derision. Oh, I'm in my five star room. That's right. Aster looking with derision. Did you get the top low? I didn't. Because they say "to pole"? Oh my god. I don't get it. Masoka wouldn't know who to pole is. Right. He probably could have struggled through that letter that he picked up, but there wouldn't have been time.

That's clever and I'm ashamed that it went over my head. Me too. Damn it. I was really pleased when he said that. Can you edit in our reactions from now when he said it earlier? I didn't want to be the only one that's like "I don't know what that is, but okay." I thought it was a reference to you. I was like "I don't know." My backstory stuff. Just nod and wave. Good stuff, James. I know, I said it and I was kind of like "Ah, nothing?" Yeah, I want to go back and laugh because it was really good. Sorry. Does he think that's the name of the knucks? Yep. That's really good.
