Previously for Group C, while traveling north towards Brightport, the weather got so bad that the group was driven off the road. Finding an abandoned cemetery, they investigated the area, finding out that it seemed to be dedicated to the god Vecna. A large statue in the middle of the graveyard held a secret passage to a lost crypt. The group started to explore, only to find out that it was riddled with traps and long dead monsters. However, evidence suggested that the finger of Vecna, a lost godly weapon and artifact, could be somewhere in that tomb.

The group pressed on, only to encounter a group of mummies that sprung forth from their burial chambers to attack the group. And that's where we pick things up today. Let's do that thing where we go around the table and introduce ourselves. I'm Jason, I'm the Dungeon Master. Going around the table, starting with Bree. Hi guys, I'm Brianna, and I play Clara Rothdale, the Drow Fighter. And Zach. What's up, my name is Zach, and I play Avallen Bates, the Human Fighter. And Jane. Hi, I'm Jane, I play Ephony, the Gnome Bard. And Lisa. Hey, I'm Lisa, and I play Elorath Beastinger, the Halfling of Barbarian.

And Jasper. Hello, I'm Jasper, I play Maric Ethelred, Human Cleric. Well, today's really clear cut, because what I'm going to do right now is share a map with you. You are in the middle of this tomb, this lost tomb of Vecna, and mummies. You remember mummies. Do we ever. Yeah, we do. Boop! So there are your mummies, do me a favor. Roll initiative. Roll initiative. I'm sure that's in here somewhere. Okay, here we go. Oh, mummies rolled terribly. Surprised? They can barely walk. You know what, that's fair. Yeah, their decks is, the deck should be low. You're right, you're right.

Alright, gorgeous. So we are all set to go. So, as these reanimated corpses start moving again, kicking the plates off of these little burial chambers in the background, three of them are going to, maybe not spring to life, but they're going to gradually come to life and claw their way out of their little drawers here. And they're going to try and surround the party and close in ever so slowly. And we are going to start with Effany. What would Effany's reaction be to this? Probably, even though she's on edge in this place, probably shock, surprise, and then, oh, you've got to be kidding me.

And then she will, I guess, ready a spell. Let's see. I do not like going first. So you got one about five feet away from you, right? So it's going to claw its way out of the drawer, kind of fall to the ground, and then on shaky legs stand up. Those bandages kind of draped over its skeletal form, lunging toward you, trying to, well, try to do something harmful to you once it gets its hand on you, probably. Let's try and stop that. Gross. I will cast Dissonant Whispers at it. So same as it's worked before, she'll use a violin, pull the bow across it, make a real screech to try and cast Dissonant Whispers at this thing.

Okay, let's target that. Ah, the mummy will succeed on its save. Dang it. I think it's going to have damage. Sorry, let me check. On a successful save, the target takes half as much damage, but it doesn't have to move away from me. So still some damage. Not much. That's not bad. All right, anything else? No, I think that's it for now. All right, Marek, you are up. I wonder what you want to do. Finally, after whatever, I have 20 years of DNR, I'm finally able to... So Marek is going to, once again, similar to what he did in the other room where we had some bad shadows hanging out, but not exactly the same.

He's going to lift up his holy symbol, which is sort of this amulet around his neck. He's going to sort of lift it off of his neck, and he's going to close his eyes and start to speak a prayer about, you know, "May the light dispel your darkness something, something, something." And he's going to try to turn undead. Okay. By the way, I like the idea of you just holding it up, starting a prayer, then yada, yada, yada. That's exactly what he does. I was going to say, that sounds very Marek. Yeah, as soon as he feels whatever sort of divine power starts to channel through him, which I imagine, I imagine that, you know, there's this feeling right?

As soon as he feels that starting to happen, he just goes, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..." the rest. So there's, I don't think that I have anything on my sheet that does this, to my knowledge. But I know how it works. Okay. I don't have something to click. But basically, any undead within 30 feet is going to have to save Wisdom. Alright, and that's versus your spell save, your spell DC, I'm guessing. What? Math? I believe we did this last time. I believe it was 13 or 12. Damn it. Okay, hold on. So get ready, mummies. Let's save Wisdom, right?

Yeah, it's Wisdom. So each one of them has their Wisdom saved. Or you can do it as a group, whatever you prefer as a team. Let's do mummy one, save. Oh, that won't save. Mummy one is going to get hit. Mummy two is going to crit and be fine. That mummy's determined. And finally, mummy number three. So mummy's number one and three are going to be affected. Yeah, so what happens here is that they basically they are now compelled, like they're just terrified. They're going to try to move as far away from me as possible. So that means in the opposite direction, even if that means that they go up into their little cubby hole, or if they press up against a wall or a corner, they just cannot willingly move into a space that's within 30 feet of me.

They move now or on their turn? I don't, it doesn't actually say either way. The only action that they have is to dash. Like they're trying to like scram. So I would imagine that they would try to do it immediately. But there's one thing that I do need to mention and that Marek would, as he does this and as it starts to happen, if you'll allow this, it's going to happen. The moment is going to happen and they're going to be terrified. And then he's going to make sure he tells everybody, don't hit them with your weapons. Because basically, anybody that's been turned until they get damage, they have to deal with this shit.

Interesting. For one minute. I forgot to tell you all that. It must spend its turns. So they don't move yet, but they move on their turn they're going to. And they're turned for yeah, for short short time. So it's not forever. But anyway. Okay. Anything else? Nope. Klara. Now they haven't moved yet. So I don't think the party would know which ones have been turned, right? That's probably true. But I did yell, don't hit them with your weapons. You did. Unfortunately, that is all Klara can do. Because she is a fighter. And all she has is weapons. I hear you. Yeah. I mean, the point being not like don't touch them with your weapons or it's like, like, nobody do anything.

Just look at them all mean. Yeah, don't fuck with them. But I would like to ready an action that if any of these mummies step within one square of any of my friends, I will move over to that friend to help them. Okay. That is my ready action. All right. Elrath. Okay. Um, Elrath would probably at least move to put herself between this mummy and Ephphany. And then hold her flail at the ready and just look super kind of confused. But kind of doing that like, kind of doing that like Street Fighter thing where she's like bouncing in place like ready, ready, ready.

A new challenger approaches. Yes. But that would probably be her turn because she was like, okay. All right. Mummy number two. Oh shit. Okay. So mummy number two is going to multi-attack. Oh no. It's going to use dreadful glare on Elrath. Yeah. All right. So let's do that. Dreadful glare. The mummy targets one creature can see within 60 feet. If the target can see the mummy, it must succeed on a DC 11 wisdom saving throw against the magic or become frightened until the end of the mummy's next turn. If the target fails the saving throw by five or more, it is also paralyzed for the same duration.

The target that proceeds on a saving throw is immune to the dreadful glare of all mummies for the next 24 hours. So it's like a chicken pox. She's already had one pox. Already caught dreadful glare when I was 11. I'm fine. All right. Do me a favor. Give me a saving throw. Okay. So it's a wisdom saving throw? Wisdom saving throw. 11. Well, the good news is it's just a flat D 20. There's no negatives or positives. Huh? Oh boy. I'm excited. Oh, okay. Oh, I know. I know. Daring this mummy down. Yes. Wow. That was... If any character were going to stare down a mummy though.

Yeah. Yeah. She probably doesn't know what they are and that's why she's like, "The folks looking at." I can make that view too. Ooh, look at me. All the rabbit hurt in the woods. Can't you see this scene though, like in the movie where the mummy's like, "Ugh," with this glare like, "Nrrrr." And she just goes, like with an attitude like, "Oh honey, mmm, mmm." Right back like, "Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm." I'm just imagining it kind of like when Shrek tries to intimidate Donkey. And he's like, "Ahh." And she's like, "Oh, your breath's nasty." Oh my God. Okay. So again, I said multi-attack.

So the Dreadcoulclair, I imagine its mouth agape purple light coming from its eyes and then nothing. Like nothing happens. It's like, "All right. Well then." Yeah. Totes his head like a dog. So he's going to ball up his fist. Again, purple light coming off of that. And he is going to try and smash at Elorath with his fist. He's going to use Rotting Fist. 15 damage will hit Elorath. Oh wait. Wait, what? No, 15. 15, sorry. 15 will hit Elorath. 15 will hit, not 15 damage. 15 will hit Elorath. Damn. I'm so sorry. That is incorrect. Elorath collapses dead on the ground.

So you, well, hold on to that. You're going to take 2d6 plus 3 bludgeoning damage and 3d6 necrotic damage. No way. No, wait, wait. That's so, no, I got nothing. I'm just saying that's so rude. Oh, okay. No. But don't. I would prefer it if you didn't. Okay, here we go. Everyone cross your fingers. Oh, that's not so bad. That's not that bad. That's worse than the 15 we thought though. Yeah, it's 18. He rolled pretty low on a lot of that, so that's not bad. Let's see. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution save and the word is cursed with mummy rot.

I have so much rotting already. I have. A what save? A Constitution save? Constitution. The Constitution. Oh boy. I eat it so hard! I eat your Constitution! I'm your president now. I'm your president now. I'm your president now. I'm your president now. Very. Mummy number three is going to move far, as far away from Merrick as you can and go hide in the corner. Avalon, your turn. Avalon is going to see that one of the mummies has ran away into a corner and he's going to see Elorath just took a lot of damage and he's just going to think about what Merrick said about not hitting them and he's going to a type of barbarian-like rage, but not really.

He's just like angry. It's kind of like a barbarian rage, but not really. So he's going to drop his shield, hold his longsword two-handed and run just dash at mummy number two. Okay. I think I can make it. I think I have enough. What's your weapon speed? 30? Oh, dude, you're great. 30, yeah. So I will come next to... Oh, really? Okay. Thank you. That is a crit. You're going to... Wow. Okay. You are going to roll on the crit table for that. Oh my God. I think that's the first time for our group. I think so. Yay! Decapitation. Decapitation. 19 almost. 19 on the crit table.

Body blow. In addition to standard critical damage, your target's lung is slashed. Wow. Let's see. These result in being stunned for two rounds and a negative one penalty in combat until healed with appropriate healing spell. There's a 50% chance of the right or left lung. If this action is impossible, which it is not. Wow. Okay. It is going to be stunned for two rounds and then take a negative one penalty for the rest of combat, basically. Nice. Can I say how I cut it? Please. So, Avalon, he rushes over and he kind of... He never really had training and it kind of shows in moments like this.

He takes his longsword two-handed. He looks a little moronic running, but he's just in a rage. He's just thinking about the strength of coming down two-handed with this longsword and he does right down. It was a body blow. I guess the mummy tries to reflexively lean back and he just slashes it across its chest. You can see inside it now. He's just looking wildly around him, kind of confused. Do me a favor. Roll damage. Oh, I didn't do that yet. Oh. Let's see. Seventeen training is a longsword. Seventeen damage and I am fairly certain... Yeah, just taking all that.

Okay. Anything else? No, that's it. Mummy number one. Mummy number one is going to get the hell away from Merrick. There you go. And that'll be mummy number one's turn. Efthony! Efthony is going to... She's going to smack Elorath on the butt and say, "Good job, girl!" And cast Cure Wounds on her. Nice. Love it. Get a good cup of that butt. Oh, I will. Ooh, nine hit points back to Elorath. Back and she will also, as a bonus action, she will give Bardic Inspiration to Elorath. And she will sing "Don't Mess With Me" by Brody Doll. I have no idea who that is. I'm going to have to look that up.

It's from the Before the Storm soundtrack. You're welcome. I bet it sounds really indie. It's quite rocky, actually. What does Bardic Inspiration mean? I'm sorry. So that gives you a d6 that you can add to an attack roll. Thank you. Is it attack and/or damage? It's just attack, I think. I don't think it's damage at all. Just attack. Okay. Cool. Thank you. You're welcome. And that's my turn. Alright. Merrick! Merrick is going to just use his Morningstar. He's going to go like this. And he's going to go straight to Mummy 2, realizing that it was the only one not turned.

And he's going to take that personally. Because this was the first time he's really been able to do it and it just really pisses him off. So he's going to have a lot of extra oomph here. That'll hit. Trust me, you did not want that fumble effect. No. Just for fun, do you want it? No. And 1d6 damage. 8 damage. Merrick is going to also yell to everybody, "Should we just get out of here? We don't have to fight." Put the stuff in the cupboards! Yeah. Other mummies. *laughter* Didn't you hear about the unwrapping party? Sometimes they got jewels inside of them. We should wrap this up and get out of the room. *laughter* 6 more mummies come crawling out of Cadence.

Uh, Klara. Alright. Um... weeeee! Hi guys! I want to play too. Bam! I'm going to hit it with my sword now because I've been proving that it's okay to do that. Yes. Don't forget, advantage. Advantage? So I'm going to... short sword? That'll hit. This one. 5 damage to the mummy. Sweet. I forget, do I get an offhand attack or is that something I get at a later level? I think I get an offhand attack. Yeah, you have an offhand. Yeah. Because I remember something was corrected but that was my use of powers. Weeeee! That'll hit. 4 damage to the mummy. I forgot to use advantage.

I could have maybe gotten a crit 20 but you know what? It's fine. Uh... Elarath, your turn! Yay! Well, seeing that it is now gang up on mummy party time, she's going to join that party and bring her flail down on the mummy. Here we go. No she is not! That'll hit. Oh, yes she will! That was a rollercoaster. Oh hell yeah! Ooh, 10 damage to the mummy. Max damage! Wait, yeah, max damage. I can't do math. Mummy 2 is going to be on shaky legs but just stand there. It looks like it's struggling to move or do anything but it can't. Mummy 3 is still in the corner and... ...Adelyn's turn.

You know, I think with these two mummies in the corner, Adelyn is just going to try to swipe at it again. Okay. Let's do it. Coming at it two handed. That'll hit. Much better. 15. 6 damage to mummy. And that'll be the end of my turn. Mmmkay. Mummy number 1 is going to continue to stay in this corner. There's no save or... ...I'm going to move into this corner. There's no save against that, right? It's just for a minute? It's just for a minute. There's no more saves. Sweet. Okay. And that will bring up Anthony. Okay. I think I'm just... I think I'm just gonna try chucking a dagger at mummy number 2.

That'll hit. Don't forget, you have advantage. 6. Do you ever give me a Perception roll? Okay. Yeah. Never mind. You're fine. Anything else? I'm going to stand here nervously now and that's my turn. Okay. Mirek! Mirek's gonna... he's going to... he's going to lift up his mace and come straight down on the mummy's disgusting purple lighted rotting head. Okay. Alright. That'll hit. Don't forget to target the mummy. Well... you know what? I want a lot. You mean to do it again? No, you're good. 9 damage to the mummy. Do me a favor, roll a Perception roll. I would love to do that.

Okay. Thanks. Get a good number. Get a good number. Roll good. Damn it! Mirek hit... his mace comes straight down on top of the mummy's head and goes CRASH! You know, crunch. And he just closes his eyes and lifts the mace up and goes HAHAHAHA! So he's not looking at all. Mirek's gone insane. Everyone's so... I turned undead! He's still like flipping out. Oh my god. Klara, your turn. I wanna hit him with my sword again. Good plan. I like it. Alright. And I have advantage. I'm gonna do it again. I'm gonna write everybody every time. It's because you select it one time, the first one hit.

So you just forget. Alright. So... here's my... did it hit the 19? It totally hit. 7 damage to the mummy. Alright. And then with my sickle... that one has advantage. 12. But it's a 17. 17. That'll hit. Alright. And here's my damage. Alright. Do I get to roll perception? Yeah. Let's see. I got a negative 1. Alarath, your turn. Big thumbs up to the camera. Okay. Well it worked last time, so let's go ahead and swing at the mummy. Get that mummy. Yeah! That'll hit. I get that mummy. Oh, 9 damage to the mummy. Didn't we ever roll perception, Alarath? K. Nice. Alright. Do I see anything?

Nope. Let's see... What were you gonna say, Jane? I was gonna say she could have added the d6 to that, couldn't she? Oh, I could. Yeah, let's do that. I hope I don't... It's still the highest we've rolled yet. Listen, we've done so good so far. I'm really... I'm okay. I'm okay. Yeah, but we're not gonna see whatever it is coming up after us. Alarath... Listen to that giggle. I just love mummies. Aveline, your turn. Aveline can see this thing. It's pretty shaky, so he's going to... put his longsword in the air again, two-handed. And he's going to say to it, "Back to the grave." Ah, dammit.

I know. I know. Hold on. Aveline, here we are. That's a crit. 'Cause I am a champion. Yes! Do me a favor and roll a d6. If you're rolling on that table. D6. Yep. That's right. You're rolling on that table. Give me a flat d20, sir. Yeah, yeah. Give you a what? A flat d20. A 10. Let's pull up that 10. That sounded judgmental, Jason. A 10. A 10, huh. A 10 is respectable. Opportunity. In addition to standard crit hit damage to the target, you may take an extra standard action this turn. Nice! Oh my god. Come on, Aveline. You got this. So you do crit damage. So, if I roll right now, it's not going to do the crit damage, though, right?

Hit shift and... Yeah, just hold shift and damage. So I do 7 and 8. Almost killed the mummy. Aaaaw, Aveline, do it! Well, might as well finish the job. Make sure you click the advantage button before you roll. Okay, so Aveline's just going to hold his longsword in his left hand, because he is left-handed, and he is going to simply, like, just, just stab him just through the chest. Gotcha. Let's do it. 14 will hit. Nice, nice. Since it's one-handed, I get damage. Plus 2, I think. No way. This mummy is going to be on shaky legs. Could you give me favor? Give me favor and roll perception.

Okay. I mean, I can foresee this thing took two crits. That is... Oof. This beast. 21! Aveline's going to notice something! Thank God! Aveline, more than any other party member so far, has really just laid into this thing. And I would imagine after a while, he's like, "All right, fucker, what is going on?" And he's going to notice that this last stab, while you are hitting the mummy, it's like your physical damage is doing less than what it should. Do mummies have, like, a Wolverine-like healing? No, it's not healing. It doesn't look like it's healing. It has a resistance to physical damage, I think.

Mm-hmm. Meta-wise, I think that's what it means. That does nothing for me and Aveline. And me. Oh yeah, and Alarath. One day you will be able to do magic things. Nah. Maybe, if you take that path. I don't know which one you chose. Eh, we'll see. Mummy number one is going to huddle in the corner and just be terrified of Mary. Efenny! Did you see his fucking mustache? My God, it's a Sam Elliott-worthy mustache. It's beautiful, but I have to run away. Um, geez. I'm going to just try dissing out Whispers again on this thing. On mummy number two, let's see if we can finish it off.

Let's do it. You guys have been wailing on this thing for so long. Don't forget, you have advantage! Oh, crap, sorry. You're good. Oh, well, it failed on the... Yeah, so it's going to get hit. Let's do it. Okay, damage. Oh, good Lord, that will kill the mummy! Yes! Nice. So this thing is just going to, like, its arm is going to dislocate and just kind of fall over, but the wrapping is kind of keeping it in place. And one by one, each bone is just going to sort of dislocate, and it is going to fall onto the ground, its mouth wide open. Okay, that's really cool imagery and all.

For some reason, spooky scary skeletons. Well, they send shivers down your spine, so it makes sense. So there's two more mummies, guys. There sure are. And we are on round four. Okay. Would your character know that? No, I'm just... Sorry, yeah, that is meta, but like... Well... I will stop talking about what round it is. Whose turn is it at this point? Still Anthony's. I think that's everything for me, to be honest, for the moment. Maric! Okay, at this point, Maric is going to turn around and sort of eyeball the two other mummies in the room. And since everybody's crowded around, he's going to kind of, like, put his hands out like, "Hang on, guys, I got this, I got this." And he's going to kind of, you know, basically calm everybody down, like, "It's okay, it's cool." And he's going to look at everybody and he's going to say, "Watch this." And he's going to take...

I'm going to move him here on the map. He's going to walk to here. And he's going to push his way through everybody and just kind of walk equidistant, but closer to both of them. Basically just to see that they scramble to get away from him into the corner. So he's making a show of it so everybody can see. It's like, "No, check this out." And they're going to be like, "Nah!" in the corners trying to get away from him. And he's going to come, like, right? And smile, like, super big. He's super proud of turning undead right now. And he's going to say, "If there's anything else you want to do in the room, I got these two." I don't think I should pull open any more doors, guys.

My bad. Jason, can you describe the room again? It's been a month. Oh, yeah, no problem. So there are essentially almost like a morgue, that type of thing. So there are these burial plots, like drawers, with little plaques and names and stuff all over. That look to be the followers of Vecna that were living here. And it also looks to be that either this place has done something to them, or they had something done to them to maybe protect it. Something like that. So there might... I mean, all signs are pointing to there being something of value in here. You've already found one thing, and that's that ring.

Right. Can Clara ask, like, how long this is going to last without it seeming meta? No, I think that's a genuine question that I've been asked. Okay, cool. Hey, Merrick, how long is this going to last? It doesn't last forever, but I've got them for a little bit. You've got just enough time to check out the room, but then we've got to scram. Okay. Go stand by the door. Okay, where's the door compared here, Jason? It's back, so it would be right there. Okay. They are as far away from the door as they can. What I'm trying to do is, like, okay, when it's done, we're going to scramble out the door.

Well, Merrick's going to try to stay right about here to basically keep it... That makes sense, yeah. It's more powerful there or something. He's just going to be like, "I got this." He's even going to put his hands out like he's pushing them with his hands, like from a distance, like a force. That totally makes sense, because I thought the door was between the two of them. Oh, got it. When it's on the other side of the room, it's fine. It's like, yeah, that's exactly where they need to be. Hang on. Real quick question, because we're kind of straddling the line between being in combat and being in regular role play.

Whose turn is it at this point? Are we gone into Clara? Well, I'm... Okay, you guys aren't technically in combat. There are things to fight, but you're doing stuff now. So if you're searching the room, the clock would be ticking. Yeah, that time would go faster. I just wanted to see if we needed to go into an order or something like that. But there's something that Merrick wants to do immediately, and that is cast Detect Magic. Okay. Which does not affect Turn Undead because it's not a spell. That's just sort of an innate cleric thing. Would that be cool with everybody?

Yeah. Okay, cool. Now I got to look it all up. God dang it. It's like a pop quiz you didn't study for that you sprung on yourself. That's exactly right. Detect Magic. For the duration, you sense the presence of magic within 30 feet of you. If you sense magic in this way, you can use your action to see a faint aura around any visible creature or object in the area that bears magic. And you can learn at school of magic, if any. The spell can penetrate most barriers, but it is blocked by a foot of stone, an inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or thin three feet of wood or dirt.

So you're going to see stuff in this room. These mummies are going to stand out. This is definitely necromancy, but I think most people would be able to tell you that. But that is the only, these two objects here are the only thing in the room that's giving off magic aura. Okay. You're worth trying. Wait, the two mummies? Just the two mummies? Just the two mummies. What are the mummies that Clara is currently wearing? Well, okay, if we're talking, I thought you were talking outside the party. I'm sorry. Oh, okay. I was asking, like, do these rings not radiate magical?

No, no, no. Well, if you're counting inside the party, then obviously anyone who's using magic, anyone who has any magic items, but that would be like background noise because Merrick is looking like, "What's new?" That makes sense. Yeah, totally. I was just like, "Does that mean there are no magical items in this room?" That makes, that's a fair, that's a tricky DM thing. That's good. That's good thinking. So are we opening drawers? I mean, I guess, how many drawers are there? Oh, bunches. We probably have enough time to open like maybe two each, I would imagine, right?

Like, not that our characters know that, but like, okay. Yeah. Do you guys want to do it? This could go horribly. We could unleash more mummies. I want to let everyone know that. Are there any drawers that are not mummy-sized? Is there any like filing cabinet? Is it like a junk drawer anywhere? Are there any labeled magical swords or? These all look pretty uniform. They all look pretty much the same. If you do decide, "I have a diplomatic way of settling this." If you do decide, "Hey, I want to open some drawers," we'll roll a flat d20 to see how good your luck is and how fantastical the items you find will be.

Now I want to open drawers. Yeah, you used the word fantastical. You got flamed. He did! I know! I am so easily swayed. I think from Clara's perspective, it's like we did just kill a motherfucking mummy. If we don't at least look in the drawers, we are wasting our time. That's actually a good point. Would it be worth looking in the drawer that the mummy came out of just for a quick second? Sure. Just like glance in. I don't know where that was, but. Yeah. So like if you're just, okay, obviously the first place you're going to look, it's like, "All right, well, let's see where these damn mummies came from." Right off the bat, you'd find 15 gold.

But no magical items. What about the one that Elorath already opened? Did a mummy come out of that one or was it just a different one? That one, I'm including that in the... Oh, okay. Sorry. No! You know what? Clara's going to try. I'll try my luck. All right. Do me a favor. Give me a flat d20. Let's say that each one of you opened a couple of drawers and this will all just be lumped into one thing. Yeah. Oh, okay. Just wall into it. Does everyone agree to open drawers? Because this could be dangerous. Basically do it and get ready to run. Yeah. Also keep in mind, Jason, I'm not sure where things are stored, but Ethany is checking the lower ones.

Elorath is checking the middle ones and Clara and Avalon are checking the tall ones. Okay. All right, here we go. That was so lame. Hey! Says the die. You are going to find 250 gold. Nice! All said and done. It looks like people were buried with their possessions for the most part. And I'd say between a few gems and gold and stuff like that, you're going to get 250 gold's worth. Nice. Fucking cool. All right. Now let's run. You did notice these mummies are very slow. Yeah. They are mummies. Y'all even? Okay. Everyone leave this room and we are back out into the hallway.

And close the door. Pretty smart guys. Is the door made out of like stone? Was there even a door? I don't believe there was a door, to be honest. I think this was at the end of the hallway. Oh, it was just a hallway. Let's just get away. Just get away. All right. They would have to be pretty smart to find you guys. They were very lucky. Okay. All right. So heading back down to this hallway where you came from, you have two choices. You could either head right and that's back the way you came. And that would lead to a completely different side of the tomb or the entrance.

So you could leave or you can head left into an area you have not yet explored. Left. Left. Left. We're here. Yeah. And you guys have handled things really well so far. And we took a rest. Yeah. We got this. We got this. All right. Efni, how are you feeling? How many spells do you have? Let me check. I have one first level left and three second level. Oh, we're fine. Yeah. All right. Who's in the lead? Not it. Ah, L or F probably would be. Let's go. All right. Do me a favor. Give me a perception check. Oh, yay. You've got this. Get it, Gil. Get it, Gil. Oh, I do. Ah, Efni. Where was that during the fight?

I think you hit every time you rolled, L or F. I did, but... Not the perception one. Not the perception check. Oh, fair enough. Yeah. So walking down this hallway, it's going to open up a bit and you're going to see a pretty big room. But just before you cross the threshold, Elorath's going to look and see several small holes, about an inch or so, in the walls lining the place. Oh. Whoever is immediately behind her or slightly, I guess, next to her, she will throw out both of her arms and just be like, "Light. Light." "Thangs." She's going to throw both her arms in front of her and be like gesturing to the holes.

So she doesn't need to describe them. "Thangs." You're also going to see a pressure plate right in the floor in front of you. Oh. "Thang." You gesture down to the floor with both arms. So to be clear, I want to make sure, so are these holes pointed at us or is it down like a hallway that we haven't gone in yet? The way this would be is you're walking down the hallway and directly in front of Elorath, riding up the sides of the walls, there'd be holes and then a pressure plate in the middle. Got it. Got it. So we would come from the sides if something were to come out of those holes.

Yeah. Maybe like poison darts or arrows or something. Maybe. Maybe tiny mummies. Could be tiny mummies. It could throw more gold at us. Good. Try it. This tomb's ready to pay out. I'm just saying. Right. Our luck's got to turn eventually. Do we see, can we, now that we've seen that pressure plate, can we... Avoid it maybe or... Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. Totally. Can we look a little bit further away from it and see, is this a collection of pressure plates or is this like the one trigger that we can see? That's definitely the one trigger that you could see. This looks to be a single trap setup that just probably would catch an unlucky adventurer on a wall.

Got it. Okay. Yeah, she'll definitely point out, because I doubt she'd know the term pressure plate. So just thing, watch, no. She forget adjectives? No, she doesn't. She was really weirded out by the mummies. Just like, no. Okay. I only speak in verbs now. Why me use more words when few word do trick? Thank you, Yoda. Aw, they're the same size. I appreciate the reference. She keeps it. It was like, it was an Office reference actually. Yeah. Okay. I'm glad you got it. Yes. It was a double. It was. All right. You are going to avoid this little thingy thing and move forward.

You're going to see a glow coming from just around the corner. It's a very soft kind of magenta light. Pretty. Do you want to go toward it? Yes. I do. Unashamedly, I do. Do me a favor, roll a perception check. Oh, Lord. Can I carry on with the other one? Oh, I see everything! I've never heard someone go from such depression to such heights so quickly. It's true. Oh boy, that is gorgeous. So there's going to be little dips in the ground and potholes and stuff like that. And Elrath is going to deathly just avoid all of it, right? And rounding the corner, there is going to be this beautiful, beautiful staff.

You are going to see this gorgeous staff laid out on this table. And the entire thing is black with gold etching and kind of this purple inlay. Beautiful, beautiful. It is begging to be touched. I want to touch it. Does anyone want to roll a history check on this? Can we all do it? That sounds like an effingy thing. It does. I do have a mystery myself, but... I have a negative two. I'm just putting that out there. I got a two. I can roll it or if you want to Clara, I don't mind. No, you go ahead. No, it's... It's a staff, so if we take it, it's going to be yours.

Probably. I don't think Maricuse is a staff. I am rolling like butts. Because you touched mine. This is going to kind of like, it's got a very unique design. So effingy would be, it's just kind of like tickling something in the back of the brain. It's like, oh, I, yeah, this is, you know, this is important. You know that this does something and it's, yeah, it's something important. You just can't quite remember. Damn it. If she could throw out a keyword or two, would that maybe jog Clara's memory and she'd think about it? With an 11? Oh, man. Withering? Then Clara is going to think about it for a minute.

She'll mutter that word and she'll, like her brow is really going to furrow and she's like desperately trying to remember some information. Can I roll a history? Go right ahead. That sounds familiar. It's another plane. Sounds like another plane. That is familiar. Plane of staff. Life is sad. It is. No life is free. The staff of withering is a... I feel like if Efni remembered the word withering, she should have remembered the staff. See, though, it's, it's, yes, it's obviously a staff. It's obviously a staff and withering comes to mind, but what it exactly does...

Kohaku River! Fuck you. You're a river dragon, you dumb shit. Anyway. Okay. What? What just happened? Sorry, it spirited away. This witch steals people's names. There's a guy named Kohaku. His full name is the Kohaku River. He's a river dragon, but he forgot the word river, so he couldn't remember his name. It was dumb. So this thing is treated pretty much like a regular magic staff, but it is definitely tied to a lot of funky magic. Warlocks sought this out for a very long time, and you can see where maybe worshippers affect them. You know, kind of got their hands on it.

Essentially, it has charges that build up, and you can expend charges to do 2d10 extra necrotic damage to a target. And there's also a thing where they have to pass a very high constitution save, or they'll have disadvantage on strength and constitution saves. Nice. Okay. What say you guys? Alright, who wants to study the general area to see if there are any traps, and who wants to check for magic? And Khar's saying that in character. I'm gonna say that crit covers the... Thank you, I was gonna ask, I was like, ugh. Yeah, no, that crit covers the area. You look like you're in the clear.

Everything looks great. Hmm. It's a fancy walking stick. *laughs* Just checking, didn't everything look okay when I took this ring, but like, then shadows happened? What, can you describe this room, other than just where the staff is? Just like the walls, is there anything specific around? Um, this is a bit of an odd room, and it's still decorated like the other ones. There's artwork on the wall and everything's obviously dedicated to Vekta. But other than that, it's a pretty empty room. The artwork's gonna come to life again, guys. *sigh* Well, how about this?

Um, who's really fast? Everybody else should get out of the room, and someone should grab it and then run. I can run. *laughs* That's the way it's supposed to be, I'm a plus four in athletics. Mmm. I got a plus five in athletics. Oh shit, you can run faster. I also have a plus five in athletics. There you go. Damn long legs, make it easy. I'm also... *laughs* I'm also wearing this fancy ring, so if the staff does some bullshit with necromancy, I'm more protected than you guys are. That's true, that's a good point. What do you think? Should we kind of like huddle out of the room just in case, you know, that way we can scram if we need to?

I keep using that word, I like it. It's my new word. I know it's good atle. I don't want to leave the room just because the last time she picked up something by herself she like instantly got surrounded. It's like maybe we can just back off maybe ten feet. *laughs* Yeah. I just want to be close to the door to run if we have to, basically. That's all. But still there and enough time to get to her. Yeah. Mmm. Bueno. Does that sound good to everyone? Yep. Yeah. Alright. So we're gonna do that thing we just said. Okay. Clara's gonna take a deep breath. And she's going to grab the rod with her, with the hand that has the ring on it.

Okay. And pick it up. But like very, just like two inches. Just like, eh? Mmm hmm. You're gonna feel, this thing weighs about four or five pounds, something like that. You're gonna feel it in your hand. It's got a good sturdy weight to it if you were to use a staff or bow or something like that. And then hit things with it. You'd think, oh, you've probably used them in training before. And you're definitely gonna feel some magic pulse off this thing. And several seconds are gonna tick by. And nothing's going to happen. I feel like the whole team did that in character just.

Yeah. Alright. Here's the thing. If I pull this away from the stand, like go to walk out the room and something happens, that would be really funny. And I feel like Jason would do that just to be really funny. Like maybe there's a spell that like, oh, if it leaves within this five feet, that's when the thing goes off. Oh no. That said, I guess Clara will take it off and kind of like examine it up close. Okay. And then smile back at her team and be like, alright, I think we got it. Sweet. Are we in a dead end kind of an area or? Yeah, it's back the way you came from here.

Okay. Alright. Yeah, I think we should huddle up real quick. Question. Does Ephini use a staff now? No. Okay. I don't believe so. So Clara wouldn't presume at this point then. No. Okay. If you want it, you should ask for it. It sounds like Evelyn wanted to propose something. Oh yes. I was just saying we should huddle up and talk some things out. Let's do it. Okay. We are at a dead end and those mummies are coming after us though. Potentially. Just saying, like I know we can outrun them, but like there's a hallway and then this dead end. So let's keep it snappy. Just huddle up.

When Clara comes back with the staff, Evelyn's going to say, do you think that was it? Do you think this was everything they were protecting? Clara's going to shake her head. I think the sword is here. Somewhere. A sword? Remember we saw the, we saw like a drawing of the sword last time? Yes. Ephini's gonna look at everyone and say, so we've got, we've gotten, well so far we've gotten a pretty sweet ring. And now by the looks of things, a very sweet staff. Do we, do we keep going in here or do we take these and run? What do you guys think? I hate to waste time, but I also know we're unlikely to come back to this place after we leave it.

You know, like for good. If we go up, we can check on the horses and stuff too. Make sure they're okay. I'm going to be honest. I feel like if we go back to find the mummies and try to kill them, we could end up getting pretty hurt or one of us could, or you never know. I feel like the safest thing to do is either go up and take a break and then come back in or in either case, just, we need to be super careful, super quiet and super aware. And just avoid the mummies. And if they, if they, if we can't get cornered is the point, but if it gets dangerous, if it gets too much, we go topside.

But I just, I don't want to get in a fight if we don't have to, cause I'm, I don't want anybody getting hurt. Yeah, those mummies were not messing around. No, they weren't. Well, these are supposedly trials. How do we not know there is a punishment for leaving or maybe this is a one way trial. We haven't tried going back yet. Maybe we can't. Shit. For that reason, I think we might try. Just in case. All right, let's try going back up topside. We don't have to take out the mummies right now. I'm just worried that while we're exploring, they could sneak up on us while we're fighting something worse.

The good news is I feel like mummies don't sneak very well. But point thinking. All right, let's go. Off in the distance there's just, uhhhh. Right, like we're all talking and we all like. We sound like Minecraft. Hear them through the walls. Also, they did emit like a purple glow, so if it's dark, we might be able to see them coming. So topside? Yeah, let's go topside. Yeah. Take a break. So obviously the traps you spotted, you already spotted them. You don't. You can walk right around them. You know where they are. So you're going to get back up topside. And the plan was to what, rest again?

I think Elrath would probably like to take a short rest at least, because she does have a little bit of wound. So even if it's just for like an hour to get a drink of water or something. Right. Yeah, I don't know what time of day it would be is the only thing. So if it's only like 11 a.m. it'd be kind of stupid to be like, "Let's go back to sleep." Yeah, it's not late in the day. You guys weren't in there very long, and you already took a long rest before that. So I'd say it's around 11, maybe somewhere around. Why don't we take a break, get some food, check on the horses, take a short rest, whatever we need to do.

And then maybe we can go back in. We don't need to wait for another day necessarily. Right. I agree with that. Yeah. I agree. Elrath, you want to roll a hit die? I do. Let's do it. Oh, hit something. I'll take it. All right. That's four regained. So during this time you guys are taking a rest. You know, again, the weather's not great, but you're getting your bearings here. You want to head back in or leave? Back in. All right. So the only place that you haven't gone now is right. Who's in the lead? Aveline will take the front this time since... All right. Good. Good, good, good.

So Aveline's going to be leading the way here, and this path is a little longer than the other ones, I would say. And it's a long hallway. And it's going to curl to the right a little bit, then to the left. And you're going to see it joins a larger hallway that kind of intersects. So it is going to open up and head to the left. Do me a favor, roll a perception check. Or a beam? Yeah, while you're walking down this hallway here, you're going to hear this grinding sound. It's kind of a grrrr. And your foot is going to sink into the ground just about, I don't know, half inch or so.

And as you look down at your foot, one lone dart is going to fire out of the wall. And hit Aveline in the neck. Shit. Do me a favor, roll a Constitution saving throw for me. Aveline... Aveline's eyes are going to flutter. And then he is going to fall forward, completely unconscious in the middle of this place. Shit. Well, remember how we weren't going to take a long rest? For real, do you want to just drag him back up top side and take a nap in it? Yeah, we can't like, what are we going to do? Prop him up against the wall and be like, well, let's keep going.

Is there any healing we have that we could do? Did he fall and trigger more pressure please? No, no, no, nothing like that. Just, just fall. Let me, let me, can I do a medicine check and just to see what kind of might be going on here? Like, check the wound and, you know, whatever. 13. America is going to identify this as gravis poison, which essentially it's usually just a, like a pretty bad long lasting poison. Long lasting in that it can stay oiled up on traps and things like that for a very long time. Now, the trade off for that is that it isn't a very potent or harmful poison.

It usually lasts for about an hour and people who are unconscious this way normally regain consciousness within the hour. OK. OK, well, all right. Listen, it's not bad. It's it's more annoying than anything else. But of course, he probably, Aveline probably has more damage from the bruises than the dart. So let's get him back up top and just wait for him to regain consciousness. He's going to be completely fine. But let's start this over. Do we need to go all the way back up or can we just like wait it out right here? Well, there are mummies and we're one man down.

Ah, and do you know what? That is an excellent point. Do we need to do something about the trap? Do we know if there are more darts? Well, before we even look, I would just say, well, no, that's actually a good point. Like, can we see if there are any other plates, you know, like, wow, this looks like a big like a lot of this shit or if this is like the one place. Um, Efony, do me a favor. Give me a perception roll. Oh. Because that was a good idea. It was, but my rolls have been sucking tonight. Oh, then you do. See, Efony's not going to see any more pressure plates.

That one that Avalanche stepped on. Definitely no more. Oh, my God. We're all good, guys. Well, look, let's let's let's get him up top. This might be the only one before we go back down this way again. We'll do a super good check. See? I'm just afraid if we pull him off. This is Lisa. That's just going to release it. And then there will be more darts. Well, we're not going to go down the hall. What we're going to do is drag him backwards. Right. So let's so, OK, sequence of events is Avalanche walking down the hall, pink down. And then what the four of you are just grabbing arms and legs and hauling him back up.

Oh, first, Merrick tells us everything that like it is. And then and then, yeah, I think so. OK, so I think it has to be me and Merrick because we're the only ones who could lift him. I hate to keep taking the short angle, but you two look silly trying. I got his feet. Here, grab his backpack. You're helping. Yeah, that's actually a good point. Actually, that's kind of a good point. Like get all of his gear. You guys take his gear. We can drag him gently, honestly, without there being any. No, I mean, like, you know, as long as it's not like a rocky, bumpy floor drag.

And then and then we can lift together to get him up the stairs or something like that. Let's do me a favor. Give me a Clark. Give me a strength check with advantage. All right. Oh, yeah, you guys are going to kind of grab Aveline with ease here and lumber back to the starting point again. You're not seeing any mummies or anything dangerous and you're getting a little further in each time. Quick question. Are you guys resting for another hour? Yeah, I guess so. Yeah. Let's wait for it. I think we're all huddling around Aveline, making sure that he's breathing and doing OK.

Yeah, he would have some sweats going on. Like he definitely it would be like, like you'd like to definitely be a fever. Like he's definitely like he's been poisoned. It's bad. But then after I'd say an hour, hour and 10 minutes, somewhere in there, he is going to regain consciousness. So Aveline is like slowly waking up. Right. And as soon as he snaps into actual consciousness, he's going to jump up, start screaming and just run full speed in a random direction. Oh, boy. Oh, he's going to start running. And if anyone's like around him when he wakes up, you're kind of pushed out of the way.

Like he doesn't see you at all. He just gets up and starts running. Merrick throws the dart at his neck again. Not true. Not true. Bless his heart. I feel like of the group, you're the one who would be able to help. Yes, she'll probably have after picking yourself up because she probably got flung back away. Thank you. She'll like dash off after him, which will like call out his name. She'll call out his name, try and get him to stop at least and say it's OK. It's all right. You're OK. You're safe. After like, you know, five feet out, just, you know, he he comes out to he hears a voice and he comes to a stop and he turns around and he starts to regain where he is.

And he starts to just look around him for like like a couple a couple of minutes. He starts to walk back to Anthony when he's going to say, I got you just going to walk up to you. And when he gets close enough, he's going to say, I thought I was dead. She's going to put a hand on his on his arm and say, it's going to take a lot more than that, my friend. You're good. You got this. Breathe. You're OK. You're OK. And she's going to like kind of like pat his arm, just try and get him to calm down. He'll nod at her and kind of slowly walk back with her to the group.

So I have a question after that freak out. Would you guys want to go back inside? I think so. Yeah. Merrick would stand up. There's probably still something else. Yeah. Merrick would stand up and go and clap him on the back and say, all right, let's go. You ready? Evelyn is going to he's kind of like looking down at the dirt, kind of like kind of trying to recollect himself. And he's going to ask Merrick what happened to me. Merrick's got the dart and he's just going to hold it up and he's going to point at his neck and say. You stepped on something and this made you go to sleep.

It's only been about an hour. It's you're not hurt. You're going to be fine. We just got to be super careful because if there's traps down there, that means there's something good. Evelyn will start nodding his head again. He's going to say, right, careful. And he's going to steal himself and walk back in first. He's going to follow him closely. Yeah, I think we need we need a tall person and a short person together. I got the floor checks to look for everything. All right. Going back in. Let's try it again. Can I can I make an argument? Yes. Since there's been two of them now, can we have advantage on checks to specifically pressure plates on the floor?

You absolutely can. Hell yeah. I think we're all on edge for that specific trial. Yeah. I think every step taken is going to be a very harrowing just for a little while. Just tiptoeing through the it's OK. OK. So going back through again, you're going to you're going to eventually get back to where you were. I'd say it's like three p.m. right now. Right. So you're going to get back to where you were ahead of you is a long hallway. Most of this is a little wider than what you're used to. And then it narrows for a bit and then it opens back up. But you got a ways to go.

Who's in the lead this time? I'll lead. All right. Sweet. So going down going down this corridor, you're you're you're going to keep walking. It's going to narrow for a bit. The artwork is going to get more bombastic. I would say more colors are used more. It's a bit more vibrant. You're going to you're going to see where maybe this is building to some kind of crescendo. Right. The artwork seems more important. Do me a favor. Give me a perception check. Perception check. Negative one. Hey, that's actually pretty good. 16. Oh, that's good. That's good stuff. You are going to be walking and there's a few things you're going to notice.

One, it looks like like maybe like boot prints or something like that. Every once in a while, you're going to kind of see where they go and they're going to move over certain things. And this you're going to notice there's like like a little spring, like a lever that has been dodged. And if you look around, you're going to see blood, like a light bloodstains and scrapes all around the walls. And you're going to you're going to look and just barely make out these these little slats, these slits in the walls. This is definitely a trap. I mean, just getting good.

And this looks to be a larger scale trap than the other ones. This looks to be I'll give you I'll give you a chance. Does anyone have thieves tools? I don't think we have a rookie type. Yeah. No, I don't. Nope. Do you said footprints? Mm hmm. Like maybe we're not alone. Maybe. I think that guy's probably done. Maybe we got lucky. It was one of the mummies. It's a lot of blood for a money. A mummy. Maybe that's what made him a mummy. I'll give somebody a chance to give me an acrobatics check to get on the other side. Oh, guess what I've got. I've got no, I don't have I got plus one.

I got plus four. Oh, I'll go for it. All right. This sounds like it could be really painful if I fuck up, but I'm going to try. That said, if I get to the other side. What's that do for us? Like, um, there's a chance to disable it from the other side. Oh, OK. Why didn't the dead guy do that before he died? It would have been polite. Is there even a dead guy? Who knows? I'm just saying, like, there are boot prints, there's blood. He could have disarmed the chat before. There might be an undead guy. Hang on. Hang on. So, Clara, can we tie a rope to your leg in case we need to drag you back?

It's kind of meant to be a Merrick joke. Right. For a second, I was trying to think about how I could explain to Jasper how that would be a terrible idea for the ducks check. Merrick's picking on Appleman. Oh, no. He has no idea. Over his head. OK, I'm going to give it a shot. All right. Just one acrobatics check or is this going to be a skill check thing? No, just one. All right. One and done. Let's go. Hey, 17. Clara is going to spring off the wall here and just leap to the other side, almost like a dart, and land deathly with a roll. Too soon. Nice. Like a non-poisonous dart.

And just kind of deathly roll through. And I will give Clara a chance to disable this trap. The check is very low. Give me give me a dexterity. Something for cannon as she's doing that cool shit off the wall, she's going to be like hardcore parkour. Yes. Now, excuse me, I didn't hear what the check was because I was thinking about making that joke. Give me a dex check. OK, the check is dex, dex, dex plus two. There we go. Because I can't do checks for some reason. Here we go. He said it was low. I did say it was low. That is just enough. Ten is just enough to do this.

So this this this little spring is going to be disabled and and this trap is null and void now. It is unspringable. You guys are free to walk through. Clara's going to stand up straight and just give like a little like salute to the party to let them know that it's disabled. Maric's going to clap. He's actually going to do like a like a golf clap, like holy mackerel. Bam. Yeah. Yeah. When it's going to nod and walk past. Very nice. Hello, Sarah. It's going to run and jump and try and give you a high five. This is something she makes. Yeah. Keep going. Maric's as as Maric walks by, he's going to say, nice job.

Seriously. Nice job. And that is beautiful. Then keep going. Let's go. Hey, Clark, give me one more perception check. OK. Mm hmm. As you guys are speaking, the floor is going to just light up with this eerie purple glow, just as like, oh, nice job. Nice job. You're going to hear this kind of singing from the ground, just kind of like a singing bowl, just. From the walls, there are going to be you kind of notice in this room you're at, it's almost the end of the hallway. There are instead of the drawers, there are long stone slabs that are lining the walls. And a few of these are going to fall away.

And these skeletal figures are going to start to shamble out with weapons drawn and just get ready to attack the party. Let me get you guys. Oh, God. Hey, hey, I have a question. Is there any chance they're on the other side of this trap I just disabled? Well, you guys are on the other side of the trap. We're on the side with them. Yeah. Yeah. OK. I thought maybe it was a thing where, like, oh, they're going to come from behind. It's like I'm going to start the trap back up. Let's orcs must die. This motherfucker. So these things are going to kind of shamble out of their their, you know, their standing coffins.

But each one of these are going to be accompanied with this this this stone slab kind of hitting the ground. There's one on the far corner of the room, though, that's going to be much larger. Oh, large skeleton, probably seven and a half to seven, eight, somewhere in there. Feet, Tom, large horns on the top of its head. What? Oh, it's a tiefling skeleton. It's actually a minotaur skeleton. Oh, no. Everyone do me a favor and roll initiative. So it's got like a big cow skull. Oh, yeah. Wait, what did I do? Oh, yeah. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. We are all so prepared for the new run.

What we are not. All right. Are we prepared? Are we ready? Oh, clearly not. Did you say, oh, no, I know those weren't great, but I you'll make it up and you're a second half team. This this time you can be great. Oh, wait. Hold on. I was just all the way the top skeleton number one, the skeleton number one is going to wander down here to Merrick. Target Merrick. Use his short sword. And hit. Well, that sucks. And do four damage. Oh, that's nothing. No, that's fine. Merrick's going to get pissed. OK. Don't say that. As an immediate interrupt, Merrick is angry. Oh, OK.

You know what? Here's something we're going to do. OK, sweet. OK. Just wanted to do that. Oh, no. OK. Scallop number two is going to wander over here right in front of Clara and target Clara. Short sword attack. Oh, that's going to miss. That's going to miss. Hmm. I am going to use an immediate interrupt. It's not really an interrupt. It's if someone misses. It's one of my reaction. Oh, no, I have to say it now. Riposte. Excellent. I forget which one you were on the side of, but I wanted to say that one. When a creature misses you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction and expend one superiority die to make a melee weapon attack against that creature.

If you hit, you add the superiority to your damage roll. Let's try to hit it first. Action. So I just use my main weapon, right? My short sword. Yep. That'll hit. Sweet. OK, so then I think my superiority dice. I have d8 and I have four of them. I wish there was a way to mark them off. That's like the one like they have it for spellcasters and I wish they had it for fighters, too. But OK, so it's going to be this plus a d8. So I'm going to do the d8 after. OK. All right. So there's that eight damage. All right. And then the d8 is coming. So one right next to the d6, I think.

Yep. And seven more damage. That will kill the skeleton. Oh, yay. That'll kill the skeleton. I'm super agile tonight, guys. This minotaur is going to open its mouth. Its kind of bottom jaw is almost on hinge. It's hanging on one side. It is going to lower its head. Oh, fuck me. It is going to paw, kind of like just just take its back foot and paw at the ground. And it is going to charge toward Elorath. Question. Yes. Given my background with minotaurs, is there any way I can be like, shit, dodge and like try and get out of the way and get others out of the way?

Because I wouldn't say so. Not unless he misses a lot. OK. OK. Try to dodge. Let's see. Charge and use gore. Now, since he's charging. If he hits with this, it's going to be a shitload of damage. So let's just let's just cross our fingers for a low roll. Yeah. Ten will miss. Oh, thank God. I'm so glad I'm so sure. Fucking hurt. So that will miss. I like that we now know that Jasper was checking his spare the dying. Thank you. Klara, your turn. Yeah, that wasn't my turn. That was just me being cool. I will come up to the minotaur attack. Attack with my short sword first.

That'll hit. All right. So there's the damage for that. That's nine damage. And then I get to attack with my sickle. That'll hit. And this many. All right. So that's another five damage. Cool. So, Avilan, your turn. Avilan is going to he's going to help out the cause over here. OK. Seems like a pretty big guy. And he is going to almost like he did before, run at it two handed style and swing down overhanded. Four damage to the skeleton. And I would like to action surge and hit it again. OK. Savaland is going to go to like a mini frenzy, saying that he hit and try to strike it one more time.

OK. That'll hit. Another six damage to the minotaur skeleton. Anything else? No, that's my turn. All right. This will bring up Elrath. She is going to. I'd like to say the the minotaur like missed because maybe she like knew how to like preemptively kind of grab for the horns instead of letting them gore her. And then so she's going to like throw out a watch the horn. You know, because like she knows seeing this like skeleton minotaur is actually going to put her into a rage because she was like, no, that's not how you're supposed to look. So she's going to swing her flail at the minotaur with advantage.

OK. Yeah, I was looking at rage, but that gives a bonus to damage, not attacks. Excuse me. OK. And while she's raging, she has resistance to bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage. Just put that out there. So, OK, attack with advantage with the flail. She's going to swing it for that big guy's head. That'll hit. Yes. OK, so I get a damage roll that increases. OK, so I am a level four barbarian. OK, so I'm going to roll with a plus four to the damage because I am a level four barbarian. Eight damage to the minotaur. OK, and I believe that is all she can do.

And but while she's like attacked, she says, like, watch the horns and then as she like swings for the head, she's just going to go, get that jock! Kind of reminding herself. No! Efthony, your turn. She's going to try and cast blindness on the minotaur. OK. I will succeed. Balls. That's the end of my crappy turn then. Oh, I have a good feeling about your next turn. Maric. Maric is going to, because he's angry, he's going to cast Burning Hands. He's going to basically try to fan open his fingers and have flames shoot out of them directly at this skeleton. I think that's skeleton one, correct?

Yes, it is. I believe he has to make. Yes. So the skeleton is going to fail and take damage. Great. Boom. Eleven damage to the skeleton. Very nice. That is it. All right. Skeleton number three is going to move forward here and attack Clara with advantage. 21 will hit. Three damage. Oh, honey. That was just unlucky. That was a bad roll. That was a bad roll. He could have fucked me up if he had tried. Yeah. Skeleton number one is going to target... What? Here, let me see something. It's going to target Efthony. Is that a thing to see if he was smart enough to realize she was casting spells?

Yes. And roll like crap and miss Efthony. He knew that she was casting spells, but he didn't understand that she was shorter. So it just went right over her head. Minotaur is going to target Clara. But don't. With advantage, he's got this huge great axe too, and he's going to whip it around in his head and try and come down on Clara. 13 will miss. Wow. Wow. I'm very lucky today. I appreciate this. Wow. With advantage. Okay, that'll bring up Clara. All right. I don't like that they have advantage against me right now. But if I shift out of the way, he's just going to move forward and have advantage on Elorath.

But then we'll have advantage on him. Hmm. I feel I got to play Clara as Clara and she's going to do the smart thing, which is I am going to shift back one. And target Skeleton number three and deal with him first. Okay. So I don't have advantage against him. And my... There it is. Okay, my short sword attack. Here we go. That'll hit. Nice. So that's going to do this. That'll do five damage to the Skeleton. And then my sickle. That'll also hit. And then this many. Seven damage will kill the Skeleton. Holy shit. Nice. Geez, look at that double scoop combo. That pep talk, when Maric said she did a good job, it really amped her up.

And now she's like, "Yeah, I did a good job!" Stab, stab, stab, stab, stab, stab. More jobs, more better jobs. Anything else? No, that'll be it. Aveline, your turn. Um... You got this honking big minotaur Skeleton right in front of you. It's going honk, honk, honk, honk. It's a weird Skeleton. Aveline's going to try to get its attention so it can look its way the best way he knows how, which is to attack it. That makes sense. That math adds up. Yeah, uh, two-handed... I have advantage, I think? Yeah, you do. Oh my god. That's gonna be my turn then. Ugh. Uh, Elorath, your turn.

Once again, raging, she will try and bring... If she brought the flail kind of maybe down towards the head, she's gonna try and hit it up towards the head. This time she's kind of swinging her arms in no particular manner. Just trying to hit. So here we go, advantage. Targeting. Oh my god, I crit it! This is the first time I've crit it in like two years! No. I'm so hot for you. No, I have a question, I'm gonna type it, because I don't want to be meta. Okay. What should I type furiously? Uh, uh, briefs, I think. Not boxers. Oh. I remember us talking about this and then it had never happened since we talked about it.

Uh, yes. Is that still a thing? Yep. Okay. Ooh. Alright, since now we know it's a thing, do you want to ask the question out loud? Uh, do you want to, is there something that happens with my flail if I crit? [Laughter] Um, well, after that cadre of planes went overhead, now we're ready to jump back into this. So, there is going to be this kind of a red aura coming off of Elorath's flail. Ooh. And after, uh, coming up with this thing, it is going to smack this minotaur right in the fucking mush, right in the, right up, right underneath, kind of scooping up.

Um, first, I want you to do me a favor. Roll damage. Okay. Uh, ch-ch-choo. Oh, oh my goodness. It has been, nope, that's dice. It has been a minute. Give me just a second. Oh, go ahead. Critical damage. Okay. Uh, plus, oh, okay, never mind. I'll do that afterwards. And then there was a- It has seven damage. Yeah, plus four. Mm-hmm. Because of my rage. Rage-in. And it's bludgeoning. I don't know if that does anything against a skeleton, but I feel like for some reason. Uh, it has a vulnerability to bludgeoning, actually. Hey. Hi. Uh-uh-uh. So, that's good. Kay. Boop. War cry.

Ah, yes, absolutely. All allies that can see you gain inspiration if they do not have it already. Ooh. Wow. Isn't that something we check off in our main thing? Yes. If you go to the top of the, top of the thing, it'll, the INSP next to your character's artwork. I'm also gonna give it to Elrath because of the flail. Aw, thank you. Of course. Kay. The entire party now has inspiration. Wow. It gives you a little star. I'll have more cry. Oh, it does! Yeah. Um, so I picture Elrath just screaming at the top of her lungs as she's just batting this minotaur's head back and forth.

Yes, absolutely. Efini! That skeleton tried to stab you. Uh, Efini is, she's very frustrated with her spells right now so she's going to pull out her rapier and try and stab him back. That seems fair. 'Cause fuck that shit. That will hit! Yes. Four damage, that will kill the skeleton! Yes! Yay! Nice. Suck it, bitch. Alright, now let's gangbang this minotaur. Wow. Let's just kill it. Let's just... Maric! Ah, Maric. He, uh, this Maric person is going to cast Inflict Wounds, but to do so it's a touch spell. He's going to run over here, and he's going to just try to just, like, flat of his palm, he's going to have to take his glove off and go "flak!" right?

Wherever he can grab. Butt cheek, whatever. Sure. I guess it's a... Not a, not a, the butt on a skeleton is nothing to write home about. Well, then he goes for something else. He goes for the chest. Oh good. That's, yeah, on a minotaur skeleton, much better. So, let's see here. Inflict Wounds. Boom. That will hit. Don't forget to target the skeleton. Ahh. There we go. And now I'm going to Inflict Wounds and actually, let's see what happens here. Holy shit! Yeah. 15, that's a lot of wounds you're inflicting. That will kill the minotaur. Yay! That will take you out of combat.

Fantastic. Um, I would like to try to take one of the minotaur horns. Did we break its skull enough for that to happen? Um, give me a Strength check. Okay. I want to send it home to a friend. Strength check. So it's plus three. Boop. I'd say that's enough, honestly. With all the bludgeoning it took, yeah, nine's good. Nice. I'll just put it in my bag. I think we need to, for our new wagon, I think we need to have some new things to drink out of. I think we need to make some horn cups. I want new a lady, who? Um, right in front of you guys, there's a set of double doors.

This is the first time that you've noticed a true, like an entrance or exit, like doors, like they are sealed. Like this is, this could be it. Check for traps. Yes, that. Who's in the lead? I don't know. Maric's going to be able to go to those doors. He's going to be super excited. Alright, do me a favor. Give me a Perception. Fifteen. That is just going to be enough. There is, maybe because of personal experience, but Maric is going to spot something on the floor. A trap door. No. Now you have two options. One, you can just side step this, or you can kind of hit it and back off just to see what's there.

I'm going to do that for two reasons. Number one, for curiosity. And number two, so that it's easier to see for everybody else. So that it's clear to go around it or whatever. Sure. Okay. So just kind of like giving it a nice sturdy kick. This trap door is going to fall away. There's going to be a hole. It's easily 30 feet deep. And if you hold your torch over it, there are spikes at the bottom of it. I'm glad you fell on that other one first. So this is a thing where it's, you can tell that these traps are ramping up. Like they're getting more like, the other ones were almost warning.

The poisonous snake pit was almost like, "Okay, there's your warning." And you said you want to approach these doors. Yeah. And very specifically, very, very deliberately, very slowly checking out how the doors could open, which way they open, if there's any potential trap or lock or anything like that that feels not right. Yeah. Well, after that bit of unpleasantness, the two doors in front of you, they're large, but they're also planes. The two doors in front of you, they're large, but they're also unlocked. And they open outward. So they're going to open into a room on the other side.

Are you going to open them? Yeah. So, Eric's going to look at Aveline and he's going to sort of just tilt his head to the door like, "You want to do this?" Like he's saying together, not like, "You want to do this instead of me?" He's like, "You want to grab one? Grab one?" Aveline kind of has his hands clenched. He's been kind of like soul searching for a little bit, kind of like out of it. But he refocuses on you and he nods. He says, "Let's do this." And Eric's going to look at everybody else in case anybody else wants to chime in, like last chance.

Alarath is probably staring at her flail. Like, "What the fuck?" "Anybody else? Don't want to do this if everybody's not okay with it." So, Eric's not being, like I said, he's being very deliberate, not like, "Yeah, open it up." Clara's going to kind of stand up a little bit straighter, puff out her chest and just give him like a very stern nod. Okay. Eric's going to say to Aveline, "All right, on three." And he's going to put his hands on one of the doors. And Aveline will do the same. All right. One, two, three, and push. And with a little bit of a heft, these doors are a little heavy, but again, not locked.

So they're going to open kind of slowly outward. And you are going to be in a fairly compact room. In the middle of the room, there is going to be a pedestal. And sitting on top of that pedestal is a long, thin wooden box. There does appear to be a lock on it. What would you like to do? Look around the rest of the room first. Yeah. At this point, it's like triple careful. Like whatever we were doing before, it's like another order of magnitude of don't move, don't breathe until we know exactly what we're doing. Do me a favor, roll perception. That's not good for me, but there's other people looking, right?

Right. Yeah. Okay. Looking around, mostly you're going to notice this artwork because this room is circular in shape, kind of a big cylinder. And all of the artwork is showing essentially the finger of Vecna in action. So people are getting stabbed with this thing and it's usually like in the center of the chest or something like that. You're going to see these dark, almost like a venom symbiote, black tentacles going outward. Their flesh is rotting on their bones. It is fucking hardcore. This is every metal album cover, every Cannibal Corpse metal album cover you've ever seen.

It's just like, holy shit. Like this is, this is a bit much. Other than that, there are no other notable features about this room besides the long wooden, thin metal chest or the wooden chest in the center of this room. Mmm. Uh, Merrick's going to at least inspect the pedestal and just see if there's any sort of, you know, any sort of trap to it or anything like that. That would mean taking it off would physically do something wrong. Um, Merrick's not going to see anything. You, uh, what does everybody think? It's about the, uh, about the size of a sword box, don't you think?

That was in character, like, yeah, just a nervous laugh and then a nod. Who's going to pick it up? Who wants a sword? Clara's going to look over to Evelyn. Like maybe like between Evelyn and Elorath because she uses two small weapons. She can't, she can't use a big sword. Elorath would still probably, she would have probably glanced up, but she's probably still staring at her own flail. Just like the, what? Yeah, that is still letting loose a bit of a, yeah, a bit. Yeah. Just a faint red glow. Oh my gosh. Yeah, no. So she's like, my weapons already cool. Yeah.

If that's what you think is best, I could try to wield it. Isn't the box locked though? Mm hmm. Is it like tied down? Um, it's almost, it's, it's not tied down. It is resting on top of this, uh, this pedestal. I think we grab it and go top side and not even worry about opening it at this point. Sounds like a good idea. That said, every time we've touched anything, something weird's happened. Pretty much. Not every time. It's okay, Merrick. I'll take the burden this time. And Evelyn will reach to a motion to pick up the box. All right. This box is going to have a little heft to it.

And picking it up, you're not going to sense that anything's going wrong or that there's any impending danger. Maybe the trials leading up to this were enough. Nothing's going to glow. Nothing's going to shake or grind. No darts are coming out of the wall. No skeletons, no monsters, no shadows. You're just holding this long, thin wooden box. How fancy does this box look? It's pretty, it's pretty fancy. It's, uh, again, it's got little etchings and stuff. It's got a little symbol of Vecna etched on the corners of it. And then, um, it's more of the same, uh, in terms of the artwork, but it's etched into the wood.

Evelyn is definitely tracing his finger, fingers through the etchings. Mm. Like beautiful box. You said you guys want to go top side? Yeah. Okay. I feel like we, we hit what we wanted to hit, right? Like, let's high tail it. Okay. So you guys are going to move around the traps that you've already sprung or detected. You are going to climb over top of the, uh, the piles of bones that used to be skeletal warriors. You're going to head down these long corridors again. You're going to wind left and right, left and right, and then you're going to head up the stairs and you are going to leave this tomb of Vecna.

Right. No one expected that, right? Nope. No. That seems way too easy. We did find a lot of things and run from several things, but still, I expected one big thing to happen at the end. Yeah. Um, do you guys want to, none of us have lock picks because we're morons. We don't have any rogue. Well, I mean, you just aren't, you just aren't a roguey group. We're a fine upstanding group of gentlemen. Exactly. Maybe we can like break the lock, you know? I was going to say, yeah, LRF's got some hand axes if you want to like... Yeah, try chopping at it. Hang on, wait, before you do, very specifically, I remember this discussion.

We have a really good toolbox for this wagon that was part of the deal with our gnome. And I'm just wondering if there's some tools in there that maybe not lock picks, but maybe something that would be, you know, like pretty good for instead of just hacking at it. Well, I'll tell you what, there are tools in here that could be used to sort of, to sort of, you know, get into a lock, something like that. So I would give somebody a plus one if they wanted to make a Dex check. Who wants to do a Dex check? I hate to be racist, but I feel like it's going to be Clara.

Wow. I only have a plus two, but you know what? Fine, I'll do it. OK, with a plus two, something in our house just fell down. It did. Here we go. Dex check. Hey, okay. Seventeen. God damn it. You know what? She's going to whisper, "God damn it," as she eats it open. Fucking, it's true. She's going to look up to the heavens like, "Really, guys?" Clara's going to fiddle with this for just a little bit, and then the lock is going to spring open. Let's set a scene. Where are you guys? Are you in the cart? Are you just outside of this tomb? Where are you? What's going on?

I think we probably set up a campground outside of the tomb last night. OK. So we're all probably around where we had set up the fire. Clara's going to unlock it, but she's not going to open it. She's going to step back and let Aveline go ahead because she got the ring and she kind of feels guilty about that even now. And she wants everyone else to have fun things. OK. So she's just going to kind of motion for Aveline like, there you go. So Aveline's going to heft this box on the back, like on the tip of the back of the cart, and he is going to slowly open in front of everyone.

All right. Again, this box has a little bit of heft to it. So opening up inside, it has this beautiful plush velvet lining. You could tell this is all through the box, but you're going to notice it on top. And since Aveline's pretty tactile, like I would imagine that that sticks out. And there's going to be a couple of pieces of paper folded up, one large one and then a smaller one underneath of it. And then there's this beautiful cloth kind of draped over top of it. This is black. The rest of it's kind of purplish. I kind of want to take I want to take the two pieces of paper out, hand them to Clara.

I'm not sure if she'll definitely take them. Yeah, I don't. I'm not sure if you want to open those now. Maybe before just in case one of them says, hey, if you touch the sword with your bare hands, you're going to get a curse forever. Yeah, right. Right. What are the odds of that? What? The larger piece of paper is going to be a map. And looking at this for a while, it appears to be a hand-drawn map of the tomb that you were just in. And there are even little areas marked where approximately where you guys found those traps and different obstacles and stuff in the tomb.

Would you take a look at the second piece of paper? Yes. You have been bested by the royals. Better luck next time, friend. What? Ah. What? Aveline quickly pulls down the sheet that's on the box. There's going to be, again, that beautiful, plush, purple, velvety outline of where a sword should be. Oh, my God. I think that's a pretty good time for us to stop for the evening. Motherfucker. They left all the traps up. Cricks. All right. Well, we have a new sworn enemy. Wrong with that. No, it's honestly out of character. That's kind of cute. It's what I deserve. I kind of like the royals.

I was like, oh, man, I can't wait to picture Aveline swinging the sword. I was excited. Oh, my goodness. That was good, though. Nice. I didn't expect that at all. It's nice. These guys, they kind of seem like fun. I hate that that's my first impression, but it's like they leave little notes behind. Yeah. They leave the fucking box. You're my sworn enemy. You're pretty cool. Like a not Gary Oak, but like red thing going on, like from the games where it's friendly. Gary Oak's a shithead, but your enemy in the games, he's kind of cool. Like, he can be friends sometimes.

Yeah. Nice. Nice. A competitive anime rivalry. I hope you guys enjoyed today's episode. This is me giving the end of the episode spiel. Visit patreon.com/danddr. We just posted a character chat with Alex Herrera, the second one we've ever done. Haven't done that in like two years, so I got a chance to catch up with him. We're doing a living in theory this month about monks, monk culture, where they get their powers, how they train, all that good stuff.

Your questions are going to be asked, and we're going to try and answer every single one of them. And if you haven't rated us on iTunes, please swing on by and do that. That really, really, really would help us out. We want to get back up to number one at some point, and we can't do that without your help. So thank you guys.
