(dramatic music) (dramatic music) (gentle music) - Previously for group C, after exploring the ruins of a Vecna temple underground, the team thought they had uncovered Vecna's finger, a long lost sword, thought to be imbued with godly power. Sadly, after great personal risk to themselves, the team found the box empty. And that's where we're picking up things today. (dramatic music) - Uh, let's do that thing where we go on the table and introduce ourselves. I'm Jason, I'm the Dungeon Master.

- Going on the table, starting with Zach. - What's up, my name is Zach and I play Evelyn Bates, the human fighter. - And Jasper. - Hey, this is Jasper, I play Merrick, Ethelred, human cleric. - And Bree. - Hi, I'm Brianna Marie and I play Clara Urath Dale, the half-drow fighter. - And Jane. - Hi, I'm Jane, I play Efene the gnome bard. - And Lisa. - Hey there, it's Lisa and I play Elorath B. Singer, the halfling barbarian. - All right, here's what I'd like to do, right off the bat. I wanna pick up on the 18th of Eriore directly after all of the events inside the crypt, tomb, dungeon, whatever you'd like to call it.

You guys are sitting outside of it, you've made up a camp. And you have discovered that the Finger of Vecna is not in its case, it's gone. And you've been left a little note by perhaps a rival adventuring party or something of the like. How would everyone be feeling right about now? 'Cause you didn't go in with the express purpose of finding that, it was more a perk or bonus of exploring the place after the fact. It's like, oh, that could be here, awesome. But you did go through a lot. So how would you all be feeling? - I think Efene would probably be feeling a little bit bummed probably, that the case was empty, but I think she'd probably also be feeling a little bit relieved, to be honest.

- Aveline definitely feels very relieved that that was it, it's done for. But he's also shocked that they kinda got played like this. It's very surprising. - Yeah, I think Elorath would probably be a little bit like, man, we fought all those skeletons for nothing. That was assholes. But then at the same time, she also doesn't care because her flail did something cool. She's probably still staring at it. - Merrick, he's gonna be pacing back and forth. What time of day is this, by the way? - Golly, this is a decent clip into the afternoon. - Okay, so we're still in the daytime.

- Yeah. - How's the weather? 'Cause I know when we first got here, it was pretty rough. Is it all dried up by now? - Yeah, pretty much. It's still probably soggy in the area, but it definitely stopped raining. - I meant coming down. - Right. - Merrick's gonna be pacing back and forth just a little bit, like just a few steps back and forth, like kind of anxious pacing. And he's just clearly, he's just kinda fucking pissed. I'm just trying to set the scene here. So I'm imagining that this box has been opened and wherever it is, it's like right in the middle of everybody and open.

And who was the one who read the note? I can't remember. - I think it was me. - Adeline handled it too far and she read it. - Yeah. - He's just pacing back and forth a little bit. It's just gotten to him clearly. I mean, I don't know if anybody else wants to do anything, but if there's a long silence of disappointment, he's finally just gonna pipe up and say, "I don't even want the sword. Like I don't even want it." (laughing) That's for y'all. Like I don't even want a sword. That's not the point. We didn't even know it was there. I just wanted to get out of the rain, but I'm fucking pissed.

They got to it first. And it's not something that I knew beforehand, but now that I know it, I don't think I can stop thinking about it. So here's the problem. This could have been a month ago. This could have also been decades ago. I have no idea. And we don't even know. Does anybody here know anything about the Royals? Have we done any sort of history check or anything like that? - I don't think so. - Shall we? - Shall we? - I would say, hmm. I'm wondering if history would be applicable here. - Is it like a, there's not a streetwise, but like a- - Right. - Streetwise, no.

- It's like a- - I would say, give me a wisdom check. - Flat wisdom check? - Yeah, just a flat wisdom check. Just kind of a, this is more of a- - Negative one. - Well. (laughing) - Gotta be history. (laughing) (laughing) - Wow. - What? Why not? Of course. Why not? What up, Merrick? Let's go. - Tiffany's just like, what's Ford? (laughing) - Yeah. - Wait, what's going on? - Probably should have checked to see before if we actually knew who these people were. - Well. - You were just so angry, you forgot who they were for a second. - Hang on, wait a minute. Let me get my database.

Okay. - So the name kind of stands out, right? Because it's got a touch of audacity about it. It's got, these are obviously not actual royalty going around, you know, raiding old crypts or look at that. But there have been, for probably a good seven to 10 years, there have been stories of a singular group that leaves calling cards for things like this. And then they're kind of braggy and show off their trophies and catches and things like this. And they have stories in Brightport and Ebony Harbor, and they've been connected to larger cities and they've even been connected to some intercontinental travel.

Like these are some globe trotting experienced adventurers that are kind of dicks. It's not just the thrill of going into these places that are closely guarding secrets and artifacts and things like that. It's letting everybody know that they did it. That's what they get off on. They need you to know how much better they are than you. - This is even better. I love this. Okay, all right. Can I amend, is that everything for the- - Yeah, I think it's everything you'd know with the 19. - All right, I'm gonna amend what Merrick was saying here. It's not gonna say decades.

This could have been years ago. This could have been a month ago. Like we don't know when this happened, but these people, if they're leaving a note like this, and they're who we know they are, they want us to find them and take that sword back. They want us to know that they've got it and they're flaunting it. And you know what? They don't deserve this sword. They, Merrick's just gonna trail off at that point and realize that he's just kind of lost it a little bit. - Clara's gonna stand up. She looked incredibly disappointed when she first found the thing, but the more upset Merrick gets, the more that the disappointment fades and the nervousness starts to increase.

And she's gonna kind of hold up her hands and be like, "Hey, hey, look." And she's gonna take a deep breath. I'm upset too. I was really kind of hoping that this would be our big shot at being like adventurers. And she's even gonna throw up her hands, whatever the fuck that means. The reality is they got the sword first and that sucks, but they got it. They did everything we did. They earned it too. So how about you take some deep breaths and we make you some tea. She's gonna kind of like reach out and like pat his shoulder, not even pretending that she's not talking like, "Don't wolf out, don't." - Oh, I think he would appreciate that it's not like a subtext.

It's like, "Don't kill us." He's going to, as soon as you start to like get in his way about his feelings, he's going to immediately like latch onto that. And this is something that he got from Kelowna. So he's always looking, if somebody calls him out on it, he has to like center immediately. So he's gonna start going, (inhales and exhales) as soon as you start doing it. So as you're saying all that, he's like already breathing and he's going to close his eyes and breathe a couple more times. And then he's gonna open his eyes and look at you. He's gonna have a really sincere smile on his face.

He's gonna go, he's gonna smile very coyly as well. Coyly? That sounds weird. He's going to be coy as he does this. He's gonna say, "I just want to piss him off." (laughs) Right? Like he's not angry anymore. He's not angry about it. He's just like, "I just want to piss them off." - At first, she's just gonna chuckle and then she's gonna stop for a second. All right. We'll do that then. And she'll kind of like, clearly something is in her head. Do you know where their base is by any chance? Brightport? - Could be. - She doesn't know. She doesn't know shit. - Yeah.

Right. So from what we just heard, it's like, they're all over the place. They've got their calling cards everywhere, right? There's a chance they're in Brightport 'cause I know they've been there before. That's one of their places. The thing is, we don't know if they're three people, if it's a group of 50 that keeps going by different names or who knows? I don't want to piss them off today. I don't want to piss them off tomorrow. I just want all of us to keep remembering that they exist. And if I get a chance, I want to leave our own calling card. That's all.

And I'm gonna fill that box with a sword. - Clara's gonna just nod and then move to the fireplace and start making the tea she was talking about. But she looks pleased because he calmed down and then also they're on the same page. Like, well, we'll figure it out. - This is his pet project. Let's put it that way. Not a... This is not a thing where it's like, no, it's not like everybody, we have to go find this. It's more like, oh, if I hear they're around, I'm gonna fucking try to find this shit. - Oh, it's gonna be so good. - And Clara is gonna make some nice drow tea.

And I don't know what that would taste like. Jason, what's their flavor profile? 'Cause I know the tea flames are very spicy. - Roll for taste. - I would say the drow are used to making do with what they have. So I'm guessing that their brand of tea is probably a little stronger, probably has a slightly bitter taste, but they're used to, if they find something with a little bit of sweetness to it, they'll add it to it. So it's probably that taste is going to hit you in the mouth. It's like, holy shit, that's strong. And then there's gonna be a hint of like a sweet aftertaste to it.

- Nice. - You're describing chai tea. - Okay, I wouldn't know. But... - That sounds about right. Remember my hair last night, Jason? The one that you said smelled like ham? - I said, okay, hold on. I said Easter ham. And I meant the cloves. - She'll make that, there's probably mushrooms in it too. Just 'cause it's from drows and that's mostly what they have. - I think he's gonna fucking love it. This is amazing. Like, I need to know how you did this. - And she'll just brighten up and like, give him a little bit of whatever she has, like half of whatever she still has of that tea.

She'll just give it to Merrick. - Aveline kind of saddles up. He's like, may I try some of that tea? It looks very delicious. - Her smile will go from like genuine to like, uh-huh. She'll pour some for Aveline and Elarath and Efony too. And they can all just have a lovely tea party. Nice, calming. (laughs) Tea party. - I would say that the tea party could go into, like let's go ahead and set up the camp properly. Let's relax after all of that dungeon crawling and we'll set out tomorrow morning and go straight to Brightport. Unless anybody has any other ideas.

- That sounds good. I feel like at this point, Clara has probably noticed that Efony jots down a lot. So she'll just check in and be like, you wrote down where we are, right? 'Cause this place is still pretty damn cool. Even if, you know, there's nothing here. - I've written a little bit. I could do with writing some more. I might do that while I drink my tea. - Awesome. She'll just nod. Just 'cause she doesn't want to lose track of where they've found this cool palace. 'Cause, not palace, but you know what I mean. Like, yeah, lost place of worship. Like that's fucking neat.

- So you guys are still in the area. Like you're not leaving the area yet. - I mean, we've got the wagon. It's there. Everything's there. We could get on the road and go a little bit, but I feel like we've got a pretty safe shelter. And if we had to, we have cover that we know that we could get into, which is into the platoon. That's my thought, but you know. - So being as how your day was so rough, do you want to just take the rest of the day, rest up and then hit the road tomorrow morning? - Yeah, that sounds good. - Yeah. - That could be a good idea. - Well then how's about we advance time to the 19th of Ferriere.

And we're going to give you guys a nice long rest. - Woo hoo. - Nice. - Yeah. - 19th. So hitting the road again, right? Heading north. - Yeah, we got to tell some, we got to get the houses together and let them know that Ona-Kal is going to secede. - Yeah, that's a fun conversation. But also we have to see who might be running the various houses of Brightport. - We got to, there's a couple of, Merrick's going to check on a couple of friends while he's there. - Oh. - Make sure they're okay. - Have you told the group, like we haven't done the info dump, but would Merrick have given backstory to the rest of the group about the houses and Merrick's relationship to them and things that might've happened to Brightport in the past?

- No, and importantly, it's not because he wants to keep secrets from anybody, you know, just because it's his own private stuff. It's if there's an assassin or if there's something or something underhanded that could put people in danger, he doesn't want anybody else in the party to know anything about them or that Merrick's connected to it in case it could cause any problem down the road, right? So if Merrick dumps all of his information out and then we get captured and this man gets tortured or something, he would want it to be like, nope, I'm the only person who knows anything about this stuff.

- Gotcha, okay. Hey, Effany. - Yes? - Could you do me a favor and give me a flat D20 for the next couple of days here? Let's see how travel's going to go. Let's see what the luck is for the party. - I hate you. (laughing) - Look at that. - What? - Yeah. - Well, I love you, so. - Yeah, see. - The power was in you all along. - Yeah. (laughing) - You've got the touch. (laughing) You've got the power. - So the 19th is going to be smooth sailing. You guys are four and a half days outside of Brightport. Nothing of real note beyond passing a couple of travelers and the nice breeze flowing through your hair and just.

- And mustache, and mustache. - Or a mustache. (laughing) You know, stopping every once in a while, letting your horses get some rest and a drink, you know, having a nice picnic. It is beautiful, beautiful countryside. Four and a half days. The 20th affair of yours is going to be interesting. I would say about 2 p.m. 2 p.m. in the afternoon here, you are going to see something very, very interesting. I'm going to need a nature check from people. Everybody. - How high? - That's appropriate. - Okay. - Is that really? - Yeah. - This all makes sense to me. - Again, L.

R. with Merrick, that's interesting. - Hey friend. - Hey, what's up? - I'd say everybody else would be looking at this with a, like a completely quizzical, like, what is that? But there is going to be something charging toward the road. This is going to be a bit, a bit of a distance in front of you, right? And, Elrath and Merrick probably have read something about this, or perhaps, perhaps seen like pictures in a book, something like that. There is a mammoth. - What? - Charging toward the road in front of you. - Okay. - Is it huge or big? - It's a mammoth. - Okay.

- I mean, you know, about mammoths are bigger than a bread box. So this is, these things are not native to Elara. They're, you don't just see these out and about, like these are, this is massive. - Okay. Okay. - And in the far, far distance, I would say two or three football fields away toward your left. So toward the west, you're going to see two gnomes chasing after this thing. Specs on the horizon. (Caldwell humming) - Wow. - Now, what would you like to do? Because this mammoth is, it is in front of you, but not so, not so far in front of you that this is like, oh, this isn't our problem necessarily.

Like you, you have a choice. You could just kind of hopefully steer around it or you could get involved or something. - I, before, before we get into this, I'd like to point out how funny it is that three people in the party just didn't notice the mammoth. - Well, they didn't notice it was. - No, no, no. You see it. There's no way you don't see it, but it's like, it's more like, what is that? Like, it's like seeing, it's like having no concept of what a saber tooth tiger is, but like, it's like, it's like, you see one, it's like, what is that? Like that's not.

- Yeah, I think Evelyn Blainely just asked, what is that? - Or LRS is gonna point at it. Is that a mammoth? - A what? - What the fuck? Do you guys see that? - It's a fucking mammoth. - Okay. - What is a mammoth? - It's that. - Or that, yeah, just pointing. - Oh, look, look, look. There's people chasing it. (laughing) - Is it coming towards us? Like on the road or is it like crossing the road? - I would say it's, it's, it's running up to the road and you know what? Let's see. - Oh no. - Oh. - Oh no. - It's going by for us. - Yeah, it's gonna get to the road and then just sort of, it's just sort of stop and then turn toward the South.

So turn toward you guys. And sort of like tilt its head, like look at, like you're telling, you could tell it's getting a better look at you, that type of thing, but it's not moving yet. It's not doing anything. - Does it look like an angry mammoth? - If it, oh. - Oh, good question. Or maybe a scared mammoth. - You know what? - Or a free mammoth. - Any of those, any of those things mean that we need to pull off the side of the road and get out of the way and look as demure as we possibly can. - Really batter eyelashes at this mammoth? - No, don't, no, no eye contact.

Like don't even look at it. Just, I'm serious. Like pull up, we need to pull off the side of the road. - Okay. - Okay. - We'll do that. - Merrick's gonna go for it. Like if he's, I'm assuming he's driving. He just drives all the time. - How far away from us is it at this point? - I'd say a good, a good 40 to 50 yards. - Okay. - So there's a, there's a decent distance. Like if it started to charge or something like that, you guys would have plenty of time to react. I mean, in a wagon, it would be a little, a little difficult in a cart. But you're pulling off to the side of the road here.

So you are, you know, are you disembarking or are you just kind of waiting this out to see? - I can tell you what Merrick's doing is he's gonna try to pull off and he's gonna jump off and go further off the road. In other words, there's road, wagon, and then Merrick and whoever else wants to go. - Okay. - Allerath would probably jump off the wagon too, but probably wouldn't move from the road 'cause she is brilliant, sorry. And apparently words are hard. - Clara would stay by Allerath for sure. Like she would probably even have her hands on her sickle and short sword.

Just like, eh. Just in case. - Oh, Evelyn's definitely like, he has his ass planted on the cart and he's just like looking at like, would you look at that? Kind of distracted. - Yeah, Allerath is like fascinated. She's like, I heard about things, but I've never seen one. Shit, that's better than I thought. - Evelyn has like the look of the hunt in his eyes right now. Like, man, that's just, wow. He's just, he's thinking about it, but he won't get off the cart. - Eric is going to say, friends, not worth it, not worth it. And he's gonna motion to where he is knowing that it's gonna be futile.

- Clara's gonna look over to Allerath. - She's transfixed. And she's also like darting between the mammoth and then the gnome still running after it 'cause she wants to be prepared for what happens. - So what are the gnomes up to? - Yeah. - They're running. They are trying. They're running their little legs off trying to catch up to this. And they're, again, kind of specks on the horizon, but they're making, you could tell they're, like it's one of those, they're so far away that it takes you a few seconds. Like, are they running toward us or away? And it takes a few seconds to figure it's like, no, no, no, they're definitely moving towards us just slowly, they're trying.

And this mammoth has some rope and stuff kind of dangling off of it. It looks like there used to be a harness or something like that. And it's definitely dangling toward the ground now. - That's like the worst animal for a gnome to try to ride. - Well. - Or the best. - For a gnome. - I love it. - Claw will take one of her hands down from her short sword and just kind of, she's gonna just like, stay there mammoth. Like she's not trying to pick a fight. - Right, right. - Clearly these gnomes are coming to pick up their mammoth because that's a sentence that people say now.

(all laughing) She wants them to be able to retrieve their mammoth. - Right, yeah. - This mammoth is going to start to walk toward the party. Not charge, it's going to start to, mosey is the best way I think to put it. Sort of meander toward the party, like it's curious. - Aww. - Now, this thing is very, very large. It dwarfs your cart large. So it is going to, the closer it gets, the bigger it seems to become. Like it is just, it fills the road, it is big. And it's gonna get to about, I'd say 40 or 50 feet away instead of yards. And again, kind of take another look at the party and it's gonna start to close in.

It's got these massive arced tusks that protrude out from its face. And every once in a while, they're almost gonna scrape the ground as it's like tilting its head, like getting a better look at the party. And it's going to start to move closer toward the horses. - Oh. - Yeah, I was gonna say, I don't think Alarath's gonna move, but she's gonna kind of put her hands up, like non-threateningly and just begin to kind of do the same thing that Clara's doing. Just like, whoa, whoa, whoa, shh, shh, you know, try to keep it calm. - I think in our heads, all of us were like, horses, unknown variable, no.

(everyone laughs) - We worked real hard with these horses. - Do me a favor, give me an animal handling check. - Yeah, you. - I'll let Alarath do that. - Why not? Okay. It's not terrible. No, it's not terrible. I would say for the most part, this mammoth is going to ignore you and get closer to the horses to the point where its tusks are right on the side of, right on the side of the horse on the left. And I would say it's going to move its head and sort of not shove, but like gently brush its tusk against this horse. Maybe just to see what would happen or something like that.

The horse, let's see. - Have I mentioned that we've been training our horses to be incredibly docile and just like really, really chill horses, like the chillest horses. - The horse is going to react negatively and start to kind of rear up and try to pull away. - That's not what I needed to do. (Alarath laughs) - This is where Marek is, right? This is like, he went over to the side and he's near the horse of the, 'cause you know, this is where things are gonna go bad. - Right. - If they're gonna start running. - Can he do an animal handling for the horses?

Like- - Yes, absolutely. - Or whatever. - I'd say you'd have advantage because you probably spend a lot of time with them and definitely more time than the mammoth. - And definitely Kaluna, whatever Kaluna rubbed off on him. (Alarath laughs) - Okay, here we go, ready? - Oh wow, that's the same thing. - Yeah. - Wow, not good, huh? - Drop the four to take a four, so that's a seven. - Four means death in Japanese, so there we go. - Wow. - You're welcome. (Alarath laughs) - So this is, I would say this horse is still reacting negatively, which means the horse next to it is probably gonna start reacting at the same time.

So they're gonna start to try and pull in different directions and they're hooked up to this cart, right? And the mammoth is going to take a couple of steps back, like, whoa, didn't expect that, that type of thing. It doesn't appear to be violent, it's not trying to be or anything, it's just maybe curious. - Maybe, do you wanna try to get this mammoth's attention, me and Alarath, like we're just gonna start going like, yeah, here, mammy, mammy, mammy. - Yeah, try and distract it from the horses. - Yeah, get it away from the variable. So we'll kind of try that, just like calling out to it and like, come on.

- It was like, hi, you're so pretty, shush, shush, shush. It's really hard to be calming an Alarath voice. - How close are you to the mammoth? - The last thing you said was about 50 feet. - Oh, it's much closer now, yeah. - Yeah, then the mammoth moved closer, I say like 20 feet. - Okay. - Maybe 10 or 15 actually, 'cause it's still near the cart and I imagine we didn't go too far from the cart. - Right, okay. - I think we'd probably start walking towards the road away from the cart, just like, hey, over here. - How dangly are these ropes too? 'Cause maybe that's the next option.

- Very, very dangly. I'd say they're on the ground, the kind of trailing behind the mammoth. - Fuck yes. - So while they're doing the little, Clara is gonna elbow Alarath and kind of like nod with her head to the ropes. - Okay. - If this doesn't work, that might-- - Give me an animal handling check. Let's see if you can coax this big old mammoth. - Alarath. - Oh, okay. - I have a negative one. - Okay. - And for some reason, it's one of the ones that I like have a star next to, so I guess I chose that specifically. (laughing) All right, here we go. - Alarath's good with animals.

- Hey, can I use my inspiration to re-roll? - You absolutely can. - Okay. Yes! - Oh, wow. - You dropped the hate to take an entity. - I am the mammoth whisperer! (laughing) Also, I flexed when I said that, but you couldn't tell. - I heard it. - Oh, good. This mammoth is going to turn around and start heading in the direction of Alarath, and it is going to get pretty darn close. It's probably gonna speed up just a little bit and take its tusk and like, kind of maybe a little, with a little bit more force, just kind of like push Alarath a bit. - She will touch it.

Yeah, like she's gonna pet the, like if it's gonna touch it, she's like, "Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo." And just kind of like pet the tusk. - Oh, you're probably like the size of the tusk. - Oh, the tusk is probably larger than Alarath. - Yeah. I am so here for this. - Meanwhile, these two gnomes are starting to close in. I'd say they are just sprinting towards this 'cause they're, I'd say at this point, you could see the look on their face, like, "Oh God, oh God, oh God." Like that type of panic. Like it's like, this mammoth could crush you and they would be responsible, that type of thing.

- While Alarath is distracting the mammoth, Clara will reach over and like very sneakily try to grab the ropes without, like not tugging, just like, "I'm gonna hold these." - Uh-huh. - Without tugging or anything, just so that I have a handle. - Got it. - How many ropes are there? - Two. - Okay. - Then Evelyn, seeing this, is going to hop off the wagon and like slowly, maybe stealthily try to make his way to the other rope. - Okay, I would say that this mammoth is paying pretty close attention to Alarath, so probably doesn't notice this. - Perfect. - Let's see a thing.

Okay. - Oh boy. - Here's what's gonna happen. As these gnomes close in, the mammoth is going to start paying attention to them and start to walk back toward them briskly. - Are you still holding onto these ropes? - Yes. - Evelyn doesn't know the plan, so he's holding on with a nod, but he doesn't know what's about to happen. - She'll just kind of try to keep up with the elephant and the mammoth. - I was about to say, is the plan to stop it? Because that might be okay. - The plan is to hand this thing to a gnome, even though she has no confidence that the gnome is going to be able to do anything about it.

- Right, okay. - But like, I have the rope. - These gnomes are gonna close in as the mammoth kind of meets them halfway. And I guess Evelyn and Clara are along for the ride and just kind of like, okay, I would imagine it takes a decent jog to keep up with this mammoth. - Right. - And the gnomes are almost going to collapse by the time they get there. They are out of breath and just two female gnomes going to walk up to the part, just, (panting) oh God. And try to reach for the ropes that you guys are holding. They're gonna flank the mammoth on either side.

- Clara's gonna look nervous, but hand over her rope and just be like, I assume this is your mammoth. - And after they catch their breath for a few minutes, one of them is gonna speak up. Hi, I'm Phyllis. - Mm-hmm, yay. - Phyllis. - Clara will just nod and, Clara, do you think you can handle this? And she's gonna kind of like point to the mammoth. - Yeah, it's usually not that big a deal. He got a little excited, saw people and wanted to close in. We've actually been walking since Overwatch. - Wow. - And the other lady's gonna speak up. Ventra. - Aveline walks up to her and hands her the rope and he says, "Hello, my name is Aveline.

I believe this belongs to you." - Coop. - And he hands it to her. - Yeah, completely unfazed, Ventra's like, "Yep, thank you." - And that rebounds and shocks Aveline, just a little bit, just a tad. - But he hands her the rope, kind of gratefully. - Phyllis is going to be kind of just petting the mammoth's leg, just like, "Okay, there you go, buddy. It's okay, it's okay." And the mammoth is going to visibly relax, just kind of calm down a bit. - Clara's going to, since she sees that it's okay, she's gonna pet the mammoth too. And then ask Phyllis. - Phyllis.

- Phyllis, does he have a name? - Like now that she's over the shock and terror, she's just like, "This is one of the most interesting things that's ever happened to me. And I need to learn as much about this creature as possible, just so I can tell people later that this happened." - Phyllis is going to speak up. - Well, we've been calling him Biggin. - It's a good name. - It's a good name. (laughing) - We're heading to Brightport in a few days. We're shipping this guy back home. - Clara's going to beam. And I imagine Elarath at this point has probably caught up to- - Yes.

- That was my in. I was like, "Hey, Elarath, you want to pet this mammoth? Come on." - Yes, she does. She absolutely wants to pet it. - But her face is going to brighten up and she's going to nod to her wagon. We're headed to Brightport too. Do you mind if we tag along? - Well, we might be a little while. We're kind of waiting for a guide into the city. We're, um, we actually have to lead him to the docks, which could be a little difficult. - Oh yeah. And she's going to kind of just take in the mammoth again, just like, "Hmm." - Ventress is going to speak up.

Poor guy's the last of his kind here in Elara. - Aww. Where did he even come from? Is he from here or did you guys bring him here? - Oh, no, no. Well, the Overwatch was shipping him in from Appius. This was years ago. They were using him for the war, but well, this guy's the only one left, so we want to bring him back home. - Oh no. And she's just going to pet him. Poor guy. - And taking a close look, you'll probably see a couple of like, a couple of like gashes or battle scars, something like that, like a little, a couple of digs here and there. - I love him.

So, so do you, she's going to like look around and she's going to grin. Do you guys get to ride him? - Ventress is going to beam up. Oh yeah. Whenever he lets us. - Hi best friend. (laughing) - He really likes people now. It took a while to sort of retrain him, but yeah, he's, he's really friendly. He didn't hurt anybody, did he? - Oh no, not at all. - And Phyllis is going to start scratching, like not quite knee level, like she, she's going to reach up. He doesn't know his strength, like just kind of like scratching him like a dog. (laughing) - I want to keep him.

- I did too. (laughing) - I want him so bad. And the gnomes. There's that, you can't split up family. Clara will look over her shoulder to Merrick, who's still like on the wagon and just kind of give him a wave to let him know that everything's fine. - Cool. He'll, he'll make his way up, assuming everything's cool. Nobody's dead, so it should be fine. - Well, it looks like you two have everything handled, but if you'd like some help, we could stick around. And maybe when it comes time to lead this big guy through Brightport, we could act as some backup or something.

- Well, like we said, it's going to be a couple of days here in the Valley. Just, just sort of waiting for, for our guide. But if you're going to be in Brightport, when we get there, that that would actually be really helpful. - He seems to like you guys. - We'll probably still be in Brightport, right? And she'll look over to like the rest of the group. Like they haven't figured out where they're going after that. - Yeah. Merrick will just nod like, yeah, we're going to be there for a few days. Yeah. Merrick's going to tentatively come up since everybody else has been doing it.

And he's going to, he's going to take his glove off and cause he wears gloves exclusively now. - I imagine we all just wear medical masks and gloves. - Yeah. It's like latex gloves. Yeah. He's going to take his glove off and, and reach out and pet the mammoth too. And, and not, not in the back, kind of like towards his, towards the, the mammoth's front too. Like kind of looking at him in the eye. Merrick's going to do a quick glance. Is this a male or female mammoth? - Is there a dangly bit? - And they would, they would introduce themselves. - Ah, he's a boy.

- Elarath, don't go down there. - Yeah. - Why? What? Duck. Oh shit. She'll come up giggling. - Merrick's going to, he'll assess the situation, talk. I'm sure they, you know, pleasantries, et cetera, et cetera. And he'll say, yeah, you know, bright boy, bright, bright boy. - I'm a bright boy. - Bright boy can be a, can be a little rough. If you're going to the docks, I mean, I'm all for getting this fellow back where he needs to be. It might not be bad to have a few people around for some protection. You never know, especially if there's something as rare as this kind of heading through the city.

He's going to look at everybody and say, I feel like we need to get there and get some stuff started. You know, he's like point, he's, he's, he's, he's making the point about the secession thing with it all. But honestly, when you get there, you should send word for us, right? We can get you to the docks. - Yeah, Clara will nod, but where do you think we'll be? Do you, and then she'll look to Efony and Merrick, who she imagines has the most experience with Brightport in general, or like the world. Do you know what inn we're going to be staying at or anything like that?

- Merrick's gonna chew on his lips for a second and his mustache in thought and say, Dragonkeep. - Clara's eyes will open a little bit wider, but she won't ask any questions. She doesn't want to embarrass you in front of the new people. Be rude. - The total gamble in his mind. - Right. - Hopefully. - This is not confidence. This is more like, there's no other calling card, you know, like start there, you know. - Hopefully my friend's not dead and we'll be staying there. - Basically. - Venture would speak up. That's really kind of you folks. Thank you so much.

- Well, we're gonna get this big guy back to the valley here and well, try to keep them away from people. At least in Silver City. - I know every part of Elrath is like, let me ride it, let me ride it, let me ride it. - Like she's almost vibrating. Like she's like, I want to ride it so bad, but she's like, no, be cool. Fuck it, be cool. - Wait, wait, wait. I'm assuming this is like passive perception noticeable. Right? - Varek is going to, he's gonna to kneel down a little bit, not condescendingly, but kind of get face to face with Phyllis and Ventra. Say, we're happy to, you know, help you out in Brightport, but can my friends get a ride real quick?

Is that possible? Just, you know, as payment, consider it even. - They're gonna look at each other and kind of smile. And they're going to motion for Elrath first to climb up the rope. - She's gonna like be, yes, yes, yes. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. And just like scramble up gently, but also very quickly. - So they're going to, they're gonna be walking back into this valley here, just trying to get, get, get big and away from the hustle and bustle of the road. And you are feet off the ground. Whoever decided to ride on the back of this mammoth, you are feet off the ground.

It is, you can tell it wasn't meant for riding. Like this isn't like a horse or something like that. You have to kind of like hold on a bit more. It's like, oh wow. Like there's, there's a lot of surface area, but it also shifts a lot more. - She is going to have like one hand in the fur and then the other hand is just like scratching behind the ears and just be like, look at you. You're so awesome, I love you. - Clara will be on standby to catch any falling halfling. - Yeah, Evelyn's definitely gonna stand back and just kind of observe. It's a nice little moment though.

- And I would imagine after, after they get, get this mammoth where he's going and that they're kind of setting up a little camp and unless there's anything else, they probably thank you guys again. And like assure you, it's like, oh, as soon as we get to Brightport, we are, we're gonna find you and this is, this will be very, very helpful. Thank you. And then probably say their goodbyes. - Clara's going to, before they leave, take off her mask 'cause obviously she wears the masks at all times and just kind of snuggle right up. 'Cause she wanted to know how it felt.

So she's just like, I will snuggle. Okay, and then she'll stop. The mammoth, not the gnomes. - Right, yes, that would be insulting. - I mean, Phyllis is probably very cute. I just, it's my mess. - So after saying goodbye to Phyllis and Ventra, are we hitting the road again? - I think so, yeah. Especially now we have a date. We need to finish this all up before our mammoth comes to town. Our mammoth, who's ours now. - When they get like a distance away from them, Alaras is gonna like bum rush and bear hug the crap out of Marek and Clara. She's like, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.

- Aw. - Hug, hug, hug, hug, hug, hug, hug. - Hug, hug, hug, hug. Like lift off the ground, like spin around and Clara's gonna excitedly like ask Alaras, like what was it like and all of that just to? - I was so tall. I could see everything, it was weird. Also soft and shaky and awesome. - Soft and shaky and awesome. - That I would say is the most interesting thing that's going to happen on the 20th of the year. - I hope so. - Yeah, that is probably the most, it's like anything that happens after that, it's like, yeah, I guess. Like there's the, we passed a couple of travelers.

Nothing's gonna top mammoth, right? - Yeah, sure. You need to dragon flies by. - Well, we'll see. - Some mammoth dragon. It's just a mammoth with like big dragon wings. - Uh, Avalon, let's pick things up on the 21st, if there you are. Hey, Avalon. - Yes. - Do me a favor and give me a flat D20 to see how the 21st and 22nd are gonna treat you. - You got it. Now let me do my pre D20 stretches real quick. - Okay, here we go. - Oh, yeah, this is good stuff. - A lot of thrusting. - Oh, that's a run of the mill. - Yeah, that's an 11. - That's fine. - Let's fast forward here to, I would say almost sunset.

- Oh, the colors changed for everybody on the call. I mean, on the, whoever's listening to this. - Whoever's listening to this. - Everybody everywhere. - I know you're out there. I would say this is probably seven, 7.30 in the evening to give you a rough estimate. So the sun is starting to dip in the sky. It's a lovely orange hue and you're passing, you're passing an area on the road that is sort of famous. It's almost like a tourist trap. So in this area, there, sometimes if you're lucky, you get to see unicorns. - Oh no. - Sometimes. - 11's not gonna do it.

I'll tell you that right now. - Are drow really elves? - Unicorn and a mammoth in the same session. - I wanna ride it too. - However. - I'm a selfish person. - Today you guys are not that lucky. What you are going to see, what you are gonna see is smoke. - Hello. - Smoke. - Smoke, now to the Northwest of you, a decent clip away, but well, actually, you know what? Let's see how good your eyesight is. Everyone give me a perception. You're all gonna see the smoke and I would imagine all of you are kind of like, oh, kind of, you know, maybe squint in that direction and see what you see.

- Oh shit. - Avalon. - God damn. - Nice. - Wow. - And that could have got us a unicorn. (laughing) - I'm fine without the unicorn. - I would say, Efony and Avalon are going to really get a good gander at this. You're gonna see a fairly large pack of gnolls. - Mm-mm. - No. - You're also going to see a cart. Now this cart is not overturned, but you're gonna see these gnolls are burning people at the stake. - What? Fucking hell. - And you're gonna hear their screams from here. - Avalon and Efony are gonna get a really good look at this. And what these gnolls appear to be doing is they have surrounded this cart and in waves, they're taking people off of it.

And it appears they've maybe been at this a little while. So there are a few of these bonfires and stakes set up. And it looks like the first wave of these people have already been burned to death. The second wave is in the process of being burned now. The flames are kind of licking at their feet and legs and they are screaming. And it looks like they're dragging people out of this cart further and leading them across this little field to a third stake set up. - Oh shit. - What would you guys like to do? What would Efony and Avalon's reaction to that be?

- Quick question. How many can I count off the top of my head? - Off the top of your head right now, it looks to be at least seven. - Then Avalon will say quietly to the party. - There are at least seven of those creatures. We need to act fast. - Avalon is just gonna say, he's gonna look Merrick in his eyes. He's gonna say, Merrick, if we go in there, you're gonna keep your head. It's not a pretty sight. - Well, I've gone from perfectly happy to completely livid realizing that this was happening. So if I haven't wolfed out yet, it ain't gonna happen. If it happens, I'm gonna get the gnolls, trust me.

And he's going to shift his eyes back and forth like. - I trust you. - I completely trust you. (laughing) - Avalon's gonna look back at the rest of the party. If we do this, it has to be now. And we can't hesitate. Anyone? He looks around. - Clara doesn't really actually see what's going on yet besides the fire, but she can tell by Avalon's tone that it's fucking serious. So she's just going to like give a serious nod. - And he's not taking the time to explain what's going on. He's just saying, if we're going to do this, we can't hesitate and it has to happen now.

- So to set a scene, you're all seeing this smoke. You're continuing on the road here. And this is in a bit of like a patch of field. There's probably trees and such surrounding it. And there's this patch of field you could see down onto. And you could definitely see movement. You're definitely seeing something going on there, but Avalon and Efthonie are the ones to really pick this up. And you go from not exactly knowing what's going on to Avalon in a very serious tone saying we can't hesitate. This is really bad. We need to ride it, if we ride it. - Yes.

- Efthonie is going to say that the gnolls are burning people alive. We have to go in there. - We've got to stop this. - Shit. - Yeah. - That was in character? - Yeah, Merrick's going to in character go, fuck. And he's going to slide off of the cart. Actually pulling it off the side of the road. I mean, I'm assuming all of this has sort of happened. Like what's going on over there? Pull it off. All this is talks happening. Like fuck. And he's going to slide down. He's still looking out at the smoke. He's going to look, he's going to talk to Avalon clearly and say, all right, what's the situation?

- There are seven and people are burning as we speak. They're grabbing innocence and putting them in fire pits. We could surprise them, but we're going to lose ground and people will be hurt. - Sounds like they're already pretty hurt. - Let's go. - Yep. - Avalon nods and says, then it's decided. And he pulls out his shield and starts to run. - God damn it. Merrick's just going to run after him. - Yep. - Yep. - All right, let me set up a little something for you guys. Talk amongst yourselves. - Chatter, chatter, chatter. - Question is murmur, murmur, murmur. Eggplant, eggplant, eggplant.

- Peas and carrots. - Peas and carrots. - Peas and carrots. - Is there a way for us to get close to them with cover? Like are they at the edge of a tree line or something like that? - Where's Biggin when we need him? - You might. - I miss him already. - No. - My sweet summer child. - You said that there are seven or there were at least seven. - At least seven. - God damn it. - Woo. - I should not have asked. What did you just say, seven? Sorry guys. - So hang on. Before we just like start beating people up, we should see if there's any way to be able to, we just need to assess this.

I know it's not going to happen with Abilene though. Like could we free people? Can we get them to escape without having to engage so much? - Ooh. - Because there are already people that are dead. I'm not saying we shouldn't save everybody that we can, but we can get in the middle and die and then everybody else is going to die. - At least while they're fighting, like just credit, we're credit stoop. Like as long as they're fighting us, they're not throwing more people into fire. Like I understand where you're coming from, where it's like there are people on fire right now that we could be helping, but while we're helping those people like all sneakily, they're going to be throwing more people into fire.

That if we distract them, left people on fire. - Well, maybe we could distract them by fighting and then somebody could be trying to get them to escape. - To free, yeah. - We'll see the layout, we'll see what's going on. - Yeah, I'm going to, I'm setting this up as we speak. Sorry for the delay. - How dare you? - I mean, it sounded like you had things prepped and then. (all laughing) - No, I thought this was more than amateur hour, but that's fine. (all laughing) - Hold on, this is going to be a bit of a delay, I'm adding more gnolls. (all laughing) - Jasper.

- Bring it, come on, double it, I don't care. (all laughing) - Shut up. - Triple it. - Fucking hate you, man. - Three times zero is still zero, right? - Right. - Oh, geez. (man singing) - You know, I just have so much confidence that Merrick won't wolf out. I know this is a lot of pressure, I'm about to say, but like, ever. - Ever. - I feel like you just got it. - Just ever. So just get on that. So here's what we're going to do. I'm going to set up tokens for some people here that are burning at the stake. - Oh no. How long would you say they have? - Uh, well, it's a little difficult, see? 'Cause like, there's- - Like are they slow cooking or?

- Oh, they're not slow. Like this fire's getting, it's up there. Like you could tell the first stake, right? There were a couple of people tied to it. And you don't exactly know how long that they've been there, but burning alive is not a pleasant thing. - No. - You know what I mean? Like it's not, it's definitely not, yeah, so. - So it would have to be a pretty big fire then, right? - It's a decent, yeah, there's wood piled up. - I was thinking, I was like, okay, I have a water skin. - What if more adventurers come? This is like a moth to flame, so to speak.

- That's literal. - That'd be cool. - It could be. - Alaraf. I'll let you guys rearrange yourselves in just a moment. - I love rearranging myself. - Are we looking at something? - Soon, in a moment. - Okay, I thought maybe I was missing something. - Lot of tokens. - Sweet, great, fantastic. Let's not go crazy if we think we might die. - Is that just, you just telling that to yourself so you don't dwarf out? - That's me, I'm saying that to me. - There's a map. - That's a good map. - Yeah, that's a big map. - It's always a big map. Oh boy, here we go. There are eight gnolls between you and these people.

Now, there are three stakes represented by those three tokens up top, do you see them? And I would say by the time you get there, they have just strapped the last person to a stake. Now the fire isn't lit on the third one yet. The first stake, those people are dead, gone. The second stake, the flame is just licking at their feet and like, you know, every once in a while, like caressing their legs and stuff. They are screaming. They are, some of it out of fear, some of it out of ow, I'm burning. So everyone do me a favor, roll initiative. - You know what I just realized?

- What'd you just realize? - What if these gnomes have a point? Like what if these people are fucking assholes? - These are the worst collection of people we could find. - What are you doing? - No, you don't understand, they've murdered so many children. - There's only one thing worse than a rapist, a child. - Is that, no, nobody's seen that vine. Okay, sorry. - No. - No, I. (laughing) - Sorry, that sounded really bad then. There was no point for you guys. - Out of context, yeah, that sounds pretty bad. - My bad. - Oh wow, those are some great initiative roles though.

This is good stuff. - I mean, for some of us. - Well. - Oh, Halfling's not fucking around. - No. - Oh my God. - It's a Lord. We're in the presence of royalty guys. - So these. - These are the royals. Okay, sorry. - So charging at these gnolls here, they are, gnolls are kind of despicable creatures. They're very, almost feral. They have a loose congregation of rules and laws between each other, but they are, they speak to each other in very monoslovic, like grunts and squeals, that type of thing. They have rules for their society, but it's, they are not, they're not as intelligent, obviously, as you are.

That's not to look down on gnolls. They just, they attack without provocation sometimes. They, but they're advanced enough that, okay, burning someone at the stake is a terrible way to kill somebody. But to the gnolls, what they're doing is barbecuing. - Oof. - Oh, this is gonna come right off the skin. - This is a Sunday cookout for them. - Yeah, that's what they're doing. - It's gonna be so, it's gonna fall right off the skin. It's gonna be amazing. - Right off the bone. - Yeah, right off the bone, sorry, yeah. - I imagine there's like one gnoll in the back, like a kiss the gnoll, little apron on.

(laughing) - Little, the hat with the hundred folds. - The human hand in his hand, we're disturbing him. - Hey, Avalon, how would you like to open things? - Yeah, I find it very appropriate for Avalon to be leading the charge on this one. So he's going to, well, he already had his sword and his shield drawn and he's running briskly towards the large cluster of gnolls in the front. And he's going to run forward. See, I have about 30 feet of speed. So I don't know how many cubes that is. - Six. - Six? - Mm-hmm. - One, two, three, four, five, six. He will get right there and he's going to bang his shield loudly, kind of like wrap his sword on it.

And he's going to say, come and burn me. And he is going to take a defensive action or stance, the one that gives a disadvantage to attackers. - Gotcha. - And he's going to hold his shield out. - Okay, so you're dodging, essentially. - Yes, the dodge action, yeah. - Gotcha, okay. So that will bring up Effany. - Okay. - What would Effany's reaction be to the sight? Has Effany ever seen something like this before? - I'm not sure she's ever really been up close and personal with gnolls, so she's probably, she's probably bracing herself right now. She's probably thinking, oh crap.

She's probably a little bit scared, not gonna lie. This is a lot of gnolls, but the screams of the people is probably going to err on and she's going to move up with Avalon if she can. What's it supposed to be? There, I think, five, yep. I think I'm within range, so I'm gonna target gnoll three and I'm gonna go for good old dissonant whispers. So she's going to pull her violin out again, again screech the, kind of screech it towards the creature to try and cast this spell. One I can't remember how to cast. - I always think careless whisper would do that.

- Yeah. - Oh, that gnoll is going to fail its save. - Yes, good. Give it some damage. - Oh, good lord, that's nine damage to the gnoll. - Excellent, and it has to use its reaction to move as far as its speed allows away from me. - Is it speed, okay, that's pretty average. And boom, it is going to move away. Anything else? - Nope, that's it for now. - Marek, you are up. - Are these gnolls undead by any chance? - Afraid not, not yet anyway. - All right, cool. Marek is going to, he's going to try to go up and around and get on the other side of the burning stakes.

- Okay. - To try to come from that angle, either to help them and or come from another angle to attack. - Okay. - So he's got a speed of 30. So these are five foot squares, right? - Yep. - So how's this work? Five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, does that work? - You could also use your attack action as another move. - Well, that's what I'm going to do is, I'm going to cast blindness on gnoll flesh gnoll. Hang on, let me see, hang on, 30 feet. Five, 10, 15, 20, 30, yeah. 15, 20, 25. I'm trying to get that gnoll pack lord within range. So he's just at the edge of that range right here.

He's going to cast blindness. Going to cast. - Oh yeah, this gnoll is going to save. - Well then you know what? That's fine. That's it. - Okay. Gnoll flesh gnoll. So these gnolls are going to see that something's up. Like once, once Aveline starts banging on a shield and stuff, they're going to just spin around and see that there is, there's stuff going on. So let's see. Um, flesh gnoll. Oh boy, howdy. Okay, so this gnoll is going to close the gap here between it and Merrick. It is going to target Merrick and it is going to attack three times. Once with its bite and two with its little short sword here.

- Bring it. - All right, so it doesn't have advantage or anything like that. So that's good. - Exactly, that's right. - So it is going to try and bite Merrick first. 'Cause again, these things are primal. They're humanoid, but they're not. Yeah, so boom, that is almost a crit. - So we're going to laugh, laugh at the bite. - Three damage, that's not much. So it's going to kind of like nip at you. That type of thing. So two short sword swings. That one will hit and that is the exact same roll. So that will hit. So six damage to Merrick and five damage to Merrick.

So yes, quite a bit. - Love it. - That'll wrap up its turn and Elrath, you're up. - Okay, Elrath, seeing what is happening is going to, let's see, run as fast as she can. One, two, three, four, five, straight ahead of her. Oh, that moves the whole map, not just me. To get there and she's actually going to throw one of her javelins at Knoll Hunter too while she's running up to him. So here we go. - Rare appearance of javelin throwing. - I know, she hasn't made a, oop, nope, probably not. - Oh, that's going to go wide. That's going to miss. - Well, she's going to yell too and then she's going to enter her rage.

- Ooh, okay. - Oh yeah. - 'Cause she was angry that that missed and she's going to ready her flail to attack on the next turn. - Anything else? - That should be it. - All right, Knoll Hunter one is going to, hmm. It's going to fire two longbow shots at Aviland and we'll have disadvantage, but Aviland's made a spectacle of himself. So let's do disadvantage and longbow. Oh, drop the 16 to take a four, that'll miss. Drop the 14 to take a 13, that'll hit. Put roll a one on, so that's a three. Three damage to Aviland. - All right. - Kalara, you are up. - Sup. - I'm going to go ahead and saddle up next to Elarath and I'm going to chuck an ax at the face of Knoll Hunter two.

- Yeah. - Ooh. - Oh. - Oh no. - That is a crit miss. And that's a three. - Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, no. I want to use my inspiration die. - Okay. - Thank you, Elarath. - You're welcome. - Let's go again. - Let's do it. - My heart just stopped. I don't want to be involved in a crit anything except for, you know, hits. - So. - The opposite of what just happened. Okay, I'm going to do that again. - Okay. - All right, but it would have been hilarious if I rolled another one, right? Now that it's happened, I can say that would have been very funny.

- Ooh, so you spared yourself a critical miss. That is a 17, that will hit. - Nice. So I will throw that. That is this many. - Seven damage to the knoll. - Perfect. And I will get rid of that inspiration die. Thank you again for the inspiration, Lisa. You're my best friend. - Did I give you inspiration? - Yeah, it was your hit. - That was your critical hit, yeah. - That's rough. Oh my God, I forgot. - Oh yeah, it didn't give us all inspiration. - What up glowing flail? - If you have a little star next to your picture, you still have inspiration. - Yep. - That's right, I forgot.

- Yep. - Which again, could save you like that. - Like it might have just done for me. - The good news is you avoided that critical miss and you guys are starting off this combat pretty strong. The bad news is there is a whole cluster of knolls now in the initiative tracker that are gonna take their turn. Knoll number one is going to move here and close the gap between himself and Aveline, target Aveline, get disadvantage on the attack. But try to use his spear. So it's gonna try and use his spear. It's gonna drop a 19 and take a six and miss. Next up is the Knoll Packlord.

Knoll Packlord is going to pull out its long blow. Long blow, long blow. - Ow. (laughing) - Target Merrick and oh, gets advantage. - Yeah, of course. - And fires twice. - Nice, makes sense. - Oh, he's gonna drop a one and take a 13. That'll be a 17 and that'll hit. And then again, oh, sorry, he gets advantage. Okay, so he's gonna hit twice and do four damage and six damage. - Wow, that's not good. - It's not great. He's also gonna use something called Incite Rampage. - Oh boy. - And he is going to target Knoll number one and with Knoll number one's reaction, he's gonna take another swing at Aveline.

But just a single swing. And he's gonna try and bite, bite Aveline. Oh, he has disadvantage though. - Oh God. - Four damage to Aveline. That'll end Knoll Packlord's turn. Knoll Fleschnar, man, they're really clustered together. That is not great. Knoll Fleschnar is going to move up, target Aveline and since it would get advantage, these are just gonna be straight rolls. It's gonna make three attacks, one bite, two with a short sword. So let's do the bite first. That is almost a crit, that'll hit. For four damage to Aveline, two with a short sword. So one, 18 will hit.

Oh, the second one will miss. Six damage to Aveline. Knoll number two is going to target Elrath with his Lambo and fire and hit and do five damage. - Oh, ow, so mean. - Knoll number three is going to square off with Ephony and do the same. - Yay. - And hit. - Ouch. - And do six damage to Ephony. - Fuck you. - And finally, Knoll Hunter two is going to move right up here and square off with Klara, target Klara. And let's see, Knoll Hunter is going to use a spear twice. So he's going to take these big two-handed swings. Well, miss the first one and almost a crit on the second one.

- First. For the first one, I would like to use Riposte. I'm going to say it wrong on purpose, just every time. When they miss, use my reaction to expend a die, one of my combat story already dies, and make an attack against them. - Let's do it. - I'm going to add my die to the damage roll. If I hit, I imagine. - Yes. - So one second, let me get rid of a die before I forget. And then, because I have to keep track of it myself, I will use my short sword. You please? - That will hit. - 14? Yes. All right, so I get to add a D8 to this. - Yep, so just roll the D8 first.

- All right, so D8. That's, I can never remember. - Right next to the D6. - Four, six, eight. - There we go. Bam, add that. Six. - So just add six to the modifier. - Perfect. You're so smart. All right, and short sword. - 15 damage. - 15 damage. - Oof. - All right, now he can hit me. - Okay, so this gnoll is going to swing clumsily, and Claris is going to expertly, you know, knock that away and stab, and do 15 damage. That is a lot, but the gnoll is going to catch you on the second one and roll nine damage to Clara. - Shit. Everyone else is getting like five damage, four damage.

(laughing) - Basically dead at this point. - Avalon, you're up. - Okay, so Avalon took a lot of damage, and he started to get overwhelmed by bodies, so I think he's going to redouble down his defensive efforts. In that case, he is going to, he's going to hone in on himself and try to focus, and he's going to use, let's see, see, see, second wind. So I need to roll a D10. - Sweet. - I wonder, okay. Then I add, oh my god. - That's a four. - I add my level as a fighter to it. I think we're level four, so eight. So eight health back. - Eight health, that's not bad.

That could save a life. - And I'm going to action surge and dodge action again. - Okay, so you're mainly trying to draw attention to yourself and get, okay, so you're taking another dodge action, so they're going to get disadvantage. All right, Efenny, you are up. - She is going to want to stick with Avalon and try and help him, but for the moment, he seems to have got this. So she's going to move to Merrick to give him some backup. So if I move, could I get there? I think I could. Is that close enough to be able to... - Not touch him. - You can move diagonally through Clara and end up here.

Sorry to move you, but... - No, no, that's fine. I wasn't sure I could have got there. - Yep. - Yeah? Okay, okay. - Just enough, actually. - Just enough off you. Okay, I will target Merrick and I will cast Cure Wounds. - Thank you. - I'm going to slap him on the butt and say, "Not today." - Hey, eight health back to Merrick. - Merrick's going to just over his shoulder, he's going to say, "Yesterday," and wink. - She'll grin at him and be like, "Right, go get him." - Is that all for Efenny? - Yeah, I think that's it. - So we're going to bring up Merrick. Merrick, do me a favor, roll 3d4.

- Oh no. - Remember I just- - 3d4? - 3d4. - Holy shit. - I'd like to point out, I'm really glad that the person with the silver dagger is the furthest away from Merrick right now. - For the moment. - That was smart. - Also, we had a nice, relaxing, long rest and all that. - We did? - Yeah. - We did. Your turn. - Okay, so Merrick is going to, I know this is going to put him at a, what do you call it whenever I move away from somebody? - Opportunity attack? - Yes, opportunity attack, but he's going to try to get here. So do we do that opportunity attack first? - Yeah, let's take care of that real quick.

- It'll miss, so you can- - Probably, right? So short sword, again, that'll hit. Targeting Merrick, let's see. Seven damage to Merrick. - So that almost undoes the healing that- - Yeah, that's cool. I needed a little boost, but I can still move, right? - That gnoll is going to slap you on the ass with his short sword as you go past. - Fine, and slice, right? Okay, but he can still move despite that and get to where he wants to go, right? - Yep. - Okay, he is going to use his channel divinity called Radiance of the Dawn. I don't know how to target this and I don't know how to make it happen here.

I think we've done this before, but I don't remember how it happens. Basically what he's going to do is he's going to lift up his amulet around his neck. He's going to lift it up and he's going to twist himself into a coil of a spring, and then he's going to go, bzzzz, and spin himself like a top, like he's a dancer, like a round, so that the amulet sort of shines in every direction. And he's going to be mumbling some sort of chant of some sort, but it's basically going to mean that there's this radiant light that appears and goes bzzzshoo, around to everybody, to all of the foes.

And it's going to cause potentially some damage if it hits. - Okay, sweet. So how far does this radiate out from? - 30 feet in every direction. - Now is it creatures or enemies? - It is hostile creatures. - Ah, good, good, good. - Within 30 feet, and they must make a constitution saving throw. - All right, well, golly, gee willikers, we need to make a lot of constitution saving throws. Let's do that. Wow, let's just go through. So, constitution saving throw, boop, that's going to fail. So no hunter two, let's just go right down the line here. What happens if they fail?

- If they fail, it would be radiant damage equal to 2d10 plus my cleric level. - Wow, okay. So you want to roll damage for that? - I sure do. 2d10 plus 24 damage, let's go. Close. - 12 damage, that's going to kill no hunter two right off the bat. - Nice. - Bam. - Good golly. Okay, so I'm going to roll right down the list here and anyone that fails is just going to get that 12 damage. Is anything, does anything else happen? - Yep, half as much if it's a save. - Gotcha, okay, so no flesh gnawer two is going to roll. I accidentally rolled twice. The 15 is going to save.

What's your spell safety DC? - That's a great question, Jason. I like that question. - You get to do this every time. - Was it 13? - 13 I think. - Where, how do you, what are you looking at? - I'm not looking at, just remembering from last time. - Yeah, there's a- - You won't be able to remember math from last time, seriously. 10 plus professor plus modifier. - Plus professor, yes. So two is your, and then your mod. So that- - I'm going to let you guys figure this out. - Okay, sweet. - You think it's eight plus- - Yeah, it's eight, yeah. So 13. - Sure. - Yes. - Love it.

- Yep, so it is 13. So that will save. - All right, and that means that it will still be a 2D 10, I'm sorry, 1D 10 plus cleric level. Well, actually, no. - I'm just going to have it, so six. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. - In the interest of let's move. - Okay, fine, fine. - No, so flesh gnawer one is going to try and roll a crit one, so 12 damage to you. And gnoll number one is going to try and save and roll a two, so that is terrible. Boop. Rolling right down the list, gnoll number three is going to try and save. 13 is just going to do it. So he's going to take six, boop.

Gnoll number two is going to try and save. Oh, that'll do it, shoot. And the hunter is going to try and save and fail miserably. And finally, our pack lord will not save. So, all right, lots of damage, lots of damage out there. - I'm imagining that this is the kind of thing that would probably take a lot out of Marek, probably not from a dice roll save, but just for story purposes, it would be like, like probably go to his knees for a second or something. - Right, 'cause that's a hell of a lot of damage just being pumped out from one location. - Yeah, it's like channeling through him in his amulet.

- Right, the only drawback is now Marek is kind of in the thick of it, right in the middle. - Yeah, totally, that's the con for sure. - That'll bring up flesh gnawer two. - The flesh gnawer two is going to close in on Efenny, 'cause Efenny's right there. - Sorry, Efenny, thanks for coming to help me, bye. - Fuck you. - Sorry. - Gonna make one attack with his bite and two with a short sword, so here we go. Fingers crossed, low rolls. One, that's gonna hit, that's a bite. Low damage, four damage to Efenny. Two with a short sword, here we go, one. That's gonna hit, and two, that's gonna miss.

So into, oh, and rolled a one on the damage, so three damage to Efenny. Elarath, your turn. - Okay, so I have a feeling that Elarath, since she was already running, would probably continue running. And she would yell at Clara, like, help Efenny, sorry. One, two, and she would probably move up here to be adjacent to both Nolflesh-Narr one and Merrick. - That looks great, yeah. So I'm picturing that Noldrop's dead right in front of you and you just kind of hop over it and keep going. - Yes. - Okay. - And so she's going to go for Nolflesh-Narr number one right now with her flail, with advantage 'cause of flanking.

Here we go, please. - Oh my God, oh, this is the best night. - That is a second crit, ladies and gentlemen. So Efenny's flail is going to kind of glow that red again and she is going to just crunk the hell out of this gnoll. And we're gonna do something right now called simply stunning. In addition to standard crit damage, your target is stunned until the end of its next turn. So that flesh-narr one is going to be stunned. - Oh my goodness, okay. - Nice. - So it is incapacitated, cannot move. Its ability to speak is impaired but not lost and automatically fails strength and dexterity saving throws.

Attacks against them already have advantage, so you are set. - Okay, well then, so she's going to do crit damage plus her barbarian level 'cause she's raging. So here we go, let's see. - Might just kill an out red anyway. - I hope so, sorry, I'm trying to, oh my, oh, here we go. - Oof, 11 damage to that gnoll. - Wow, wow, wow. - That's not bad. - That's great. - And she's just gonna be yelling the whole time, like not even caring that it's glowing at this point. First time it freaked her out, this time she's like, "Fuck yeah, my foil closed now, bitches." (laughing) - I see you've been saving up all your crits for the last two years.

- Apparently. Pew, pew, pew. - Anything else? - No, I think that's it. - Okay, Gnoll Hunter, let's see. Gnoll Hunter number one is going to close the gap here with Marek and stop targeting Avalon, target Marek and shit. Gonna make two melee swings with the spear and they will have advantage, so let's do this. Oh, he's gonna drop a two to take a four, which is an eight that will miss and second one. - Come on Marek. - That's almost a crit, that's gonna hit. - Yeah. - Eight damage to Marek is going to drop him. - Yeah. - Bonk. - Question. - Yes. - Was the simply stunning the effect of my crit?

- Yep. - Or did I even roll on the crit table? - That did roll on the crit table, yeah. - Okay, sorry. - So that is going to stun that Gnoll Flesh Gnoller, the Gnoll Flesh Gnoller one and just like you're good. I pictured like a kabong right on the back of the head. So not only is your flail glowing, but also probably covered in blood. - Extra red. - Extra red. Klara, you are up. - All right, Klara is gonna move over here. And I imagine like she's just going to as loudly as she can, just cuss at this gnoll and drow. - Ooh. - Just cussing him out as she tries to hit him with her two weapons, just to get his attention away from Ephony.

- Gotcha. - Since I don't even think gnolls speak common anyway, so why swear at him in the language of like, just feels right, you know, in your heart. - Yeah, I think you're left with sharp consonants. - That's what I was thinking. Like it's like the word cunt, but whatever the drow equivalent is, like just it starts and ends with a consonant at least. - Yep. - So she is going to first strike him with her short sword. - That's gonna miss. - I am going to use- - Advantage. - You have advantage. - Oh, I have advantage. Okay, I'll just roll it a second time then.

- Yep. - That sound good? Okay. Let's try again. - That'll hit. - Awesome. I will not use any of my combat by then. Actually, maybe I will. I'm going to use precision attack. - Okay. - And that will add another d8 to my attack roll. So let's do that again. So I will add a three to my short sword roll. - 11 damage will kill the gnoll. - Yes. All right, I didn't have to draw his attention, but fine. - Well, I mean, I did draw his attention. - That's fair. - For a second. - Huh? Oh, dead. - So Clara's gonna move slightly. - Like cuss out this gnoll in drow. Then she's going to cut his throat with her short sword, blood everywhere.

She's gonna rip the hand ax that is embedded in his shoulder out as he falls to the ground and then chuck it over at the gnoll by Avalon. - Oh, this better hit. - I really hope so. Because I just described that super cool. And if it doesn't work, I'll be sad. All right. - So ready to flesh gnoll her next to Avalon. - That, yep, that hits. It's almost a crit. - Oh really? 'Cause he's surrounded. - Yep. Plus he's stunned. - Wow, there was a lot of things on my side there. - Oh, this poor gnoll. So I picture this, you know, you know, ripping this hand ax, this hatchet out of the dead gnoll next to Clara and Efenny, whipping it and it just embedding in the side of the skull of this gnoll and he's going to go down like a sack of potatoes dead.

- Wow. - And Clara's just gonna like, yeah. Finger guns. - That is going to bring up gnoll number one, still targeting Avalon, going to just try and use his spear. - I'm in dodge action. - Oh, you're right. So we're going to drop that 18 and take a 15, which will still hit. - Fuck. - But he's only going to roll four damage. Four damage to Avalon. - God damn dodge action, fuck it. - The gnoll pack Lord is going to sidle up next to Marek and try to stab down at his body. - Do it, do it. - No, no, no, no, no, no. - Oh yeah, he's out. So that's. - I mean, it's auto hit unless somebody can stop it.

- He's not going to take any. Oh boy. Okay. I believe, let me make sure of this. I believe it's an auto hit and I believe it's two death strikes right there. I believe. - Yeah. - I believe. - Would this be something. - Living life after unconscious. - Would this be something F and E could use cutting words on? Or is it still an auto hit? Let's describe cutting words. - It is when a creature that you can see within 60 feet of you makes an attack roll, you can use your reaction to expend one of your uses of bardic inspiration, rolling a bardic inspiration diet and subtracting the number rolled from the creature's roll.

- Okay. There's few mechanics in play. Let's see here. - Yeah, I'm not sure it will work, but. - Take damage while it's your hit once you suffer a death saving throw failure. If this damage is from a critical hit, then it's two. Okay, so that means I'm, I mean for him to miss you though, let's see, let me make sure of something. Okay, so here's how it works. This no pack Lord is going to have advantage on the attack, but any attack that hits is a crit. So, Efony can do this, 'cause it's still an attack roll. - Okay. - So you're gonna use cutting words, right?

- Yep. - And that does what again? - It's, I can use bardic inspiration, I've basically to roll a d6 and then subtract that from the creature's attack roll. - Okay, so you go ahead and roll that d6 right now. Okay, now that's gonna subtract three from whatever this gnoll is gonna roll. So everyone cross your fingers. He is going to use his glaive and attack Marek twice. That's a 17, subtracting three, does that hit Marek's AC? - 14? - 14. - 14 is exactly Marek's AC. - Oh no. - We're gonna tick off two death saving throws for Marek right now and. - Oh man. - So that's two failures.

Knoll number two is going to close the gap here and target Elorath. - Okay. - And use spear, that's going to hit. - Okay, I get a resistance to bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage. - Oh, that's fantastic. So that'll cut that. - 'Cause I'm raging. - So you're just gonna take two damage. So let's correct that, boom, two damage. So you're basically shrugging this off to try and get to Marek, I'm guessing. - I'm gonna try. - Oh boy, howdy. And Knoll number three is going to move in and target Elorath. - Well, fuck you too. - Oh man, and stop targeting Eboni.

So targeting Elorath, gonna get advantage and spear. Wow. - That is sick. - We're gonna drop that two to take a five, still a nine, not gonna hit. - Oh boy, okay, that's the end of the round. The people in the first stake are dead, but the people in the second stake are gonna start taking damage in the form of two D10 at the end of each one of these rounds. - Starting next round. - Starting now. - No. - 17 damage. - Oh my God. - They're going to be wailing, screaming while burning at the stake. - This is a horrific scene. - This is a really horrific scene. - Fucking terrible, Avalon, your turn.

- Okay, let's see here. As long as I stay in his range, I can swing around an enemy, right? I'm just gonna try to swing around and no one to about right here. - Yep, I can do that. - And I'm going to, oh man, I'm gonna drop my shield on the ground in front of me. - Oh shit. - I'm gonna two hand my long sword, try to kill Knoll number one with a reckless overhand swing. - Let's do it. 13's gonna miss the Knoll. - Oh, I didn't attack him. I mean, I didn't target him, but yeah. Damn it, that's it. - Efenny, you are up. - Okay. Going straight here and second level Cure Winds on Merrick, please.

- You are a lifesaver. - Thank you. Quite literally. - I'm not quite sure how to do second level 'cause it's an extra D8. - Oh, so just roll the D8 and we'll add it. - Okay. - Yeah. - You're still targeting yourself too. - Oh, no, sorry. - That's okay. Easily fixed. So that is six to Merrick so far, just roll another D8 and we'll add it up. - Nice. - 11 health to Merrick. - Oh, thank God. - Good Lord, thank you so much. - Well, that one doesn't have the plus two, right? Nevermind. - No, that was just the extra roll for doing it at a higher level. - Okay. - Yay. Now get away from him.

- How do I untarget myself? It's not working. - Oh, there you go. - Thank you. - Efenny, save Merrick. Anything else? - There's a bonus action I'll give Bardic inspiration to you, Avalon. She'll sing, "Don't stop believing," and give him inspiration. - Merrick, you are up. You are going to, eyes pop open, wake up on the ground, surrounded by gnolls and one Efenny in the corner. - Oh, mackerel. Okay, Merrick's gonna get his bearings for just a second and then not even getting up, but just like lifting himself up just a bit with his hand, right? He's going to immediately look for the pack lord 'cause he's focused on that 'cause he feels like that could be a morale issue if it could take care of the pack lord.

He's going to target the gnoll pack lord and cast Burning Hands. - Okay, pack lord's going to save. - That's okay because Burning Hands, half as much damage on a successful. - Nice. - And so it should be three V six. So five damage. - There you go. - Five damage. So gonna get a little yipe, yipe, like that just setting. - Straight in his face, straight in his face. - Oh, that's nasty. Alarath, you're up. - All right, which one? Oh gosh, fuck it, this one's right in front of her face. She's gonna swing her flail at gnoll number three. - All right. - I wish I could give myself double advantage, but I cannot.

So here we go. Boop, boop. - Oof, two nines. - Oh, it's Walker. - That's gonna miss. - There's nothing else I can do, I don't think. I'm looking at my abilities, I apologize. Nope, that's it. - Good lord, okay. Knoll hunter number one is up. He's going to try and stab at Merrick twice with advantage. - Bring it. - Gonna try and run him through the spear. - Yeah, do it, I dare you. - Oh. - Oh, he dropped a one to take a four, that's still gonna miss. - Yes. - Right, that's what I'm saying. - Oh, that's a crit. Oh. - No. - No. - Oh. - Oh no. - What is it? - Let's do the damage first.

- Again. - Oh my God. Eight damage to Merrick. - All right, all right. - Still alive, still alive. - Still alive. - Good, missing ahead. - What? - All of the Knoll's allies are gonna gain inspiration. - Ah. - Klara, your turn. - That could have been a lot worse. - Could have been way worse. - It could have, it could have. - Klara is going to run over here, target Knoll two, and just try to get rid of some of the advantage on Merrick. - Short sword first, and I have advantage. - Let's do it. That is almost a crit, 24 that'll hit. - Oh, nice. - Bam, bam. - Five damage to the Knoll.

- All right, and then I use my sickle. I also have advantage on that. Bam, bam. - That'll hit. - 18, and that many? - Six damage to the Knoll. - He's still standing. - Oh yeah. - Oh, fuck him. I will take action surge. - Okay. - I will use up my action surge for the day and hit him one more time with my short sword. - All right. - Nice. - Almost a crit again, that'll hit. - Why can't I get a 20? (laughs) And this time I think I will use precision attack again and add a D8. - Okay. - So I'm going to add that many. Oh wow. - That's a one. - Well, they can all be winners.

- Yeah. - So I only have one die left and that many damage. - That will kill the Knoll. - Okay, that's all I wanted. I just wanted him dead. - That Knoll is dead, all right. How many, how many? - And then because I can split my, I get four. - Yes. - And then I have to take a long rest. - Right, but how many do you have left? - One. - Okay. - I've used three this battle. And then I'm going to, because you can split your movement, I'm just going to move up over here. - Yep. - So that's all. - All right, Knoll number one is going to target Effeny, let's see, with advantage, try and use a spear.

Oh, that's going to hit. Six damage to Effeny. Knoll Packlord. He's going to swing at, he's going to make two swings. One against Marek with his glaive, advantage. - Oh God. - That will hit. That will knock Marek out. And he's going to follow up and stab at Marek again. - Does not like you, what the hell? - No, no, what's, yeah. - So that is, yeah, that's two death saving throws right there. Right back, yeah. Knoll number three. Normally would stab at Marek to make sure it's dead because Marek keeps getting up and it's freaking these Knolls out. But, Elorath just hit him in the face.

So he's going to continue to swing at Elorath with his spear. No advantage, just a spear attack. He's going to roll a three and suck. That's the end of the round. - Oh, people. - 2d10 damage, that's another six damage. Those two people at the stake are burned alive. - Damn it. - Nice. - Damn it. - The two people here at the end that are tied up, one male, one female, they're still alive. No fire has been set. - Yes. - Okay. So you're going to hear these screams eventually die down and stop, and this is the crackling of fire. Now that the screams have been lessened, there are still two people at the stake just yelling for help, but they're not screaming in agony.

Aveline, your turn. - Aveline looks back at his failure and kind of clicks his tongue to himself, very frustrated. He runs around Knoll number one and he takes another two-handed swing. This time, hopefully with advantage. - Okay, here we go. Yep, that's advantage. Let's do it. That is 18, that will hit. Four damage to the Knoll. - I believe that's it for me. - Okay, Efenny, you are in a bad spot here. These Knolls are, the party in these Knolls are just circling each other. I can't imagine what the smell would be of burning flesh and hair as it just sort of mixes in to the blood of the battlefield.

- Cure wounds on Merrick. He's gonna be the action again, I think. - All right. - Thank you. - Let's go second level again. I can do that again. - 10 health back to Merrick. Let's clear those death saving throws. - Fuck yes. - Oh, it's clear when you get revived? - Yep. - Oh, thank God. (laughs) - Shit. - Or else I believe he'd already be dead. - Yeah, I was like, I thought he was dead last turn. - Anything else for Efenny? - Maybe move away? - I guess I could move back a little bit. I'm reluctant to because I keep needing to slap Merrick away here. - Right. - I'll just take like five or 10, yeah, back.

- Okay. Okay. - Oh shit. - You can't do that because you need to disengage. But what you could do is at least go diagonally one so you're between Aveline and Efenny, or sorry, Elarath. And then you won't have. - No opportunity attack that way. - Oh. - I think, maybe, I don't know. - No, they would still have advantage against you. - Yeah, pretty much. - You can slide over one more, but then you take an opportunity attack from that one. - Yeah, I'm kind of low right now. So no, I'll just, I'll stay where I am. - Back where you were? This is a hairy fight. - Yeah, I'm screwed either way.

Just leave me there. - Oh. - It's okay, it's gonna be okay. - Yeah, this is a hairy fight. You guys have been through some nasty stuff before. Merrick, you are awake again. I can't imagine the pain that Merrick's been through. Sadly, I'm gonna have to ask you to roll two more D4s. - Two more D4s, okay. Oh man, all right. Four. - Merrick is going to start to sweat. And like, it's getting very tough for Merrick to catch his breath. Like very, very tough. - Okay, well, with that in mind, he's going to basically do exactly the same thing, but with something called Scorching Ray.

He's gonna target the pack lord. And I'm not sure how this does it on the board. - Wait, what just happened? - I just did Scorching Ray. - Oh, that missed. - Okay. - Advantage? - Yeah, you do have advantage. That'll still miss. - Fine, fine, fine. He's trying. It's better, but I can get it. Like he's been knocked out a couple of times. He's disoriented, right? That's what I was trying to figure out is, here's what it says. You create three rays of fire and hurl them at targets within range. You can hurl them at one target or several. So that basically means I have three attacks, one, two, three.

But it doesn't do it on the board, so. - Okay, the only problem is you're making a ranged attack while you're in melee range. - Yeah, but I mean. - All right, so what does that mean? - Let me double check my D&D. - Doesn't that mean disadvantage, which would then cancel out the advantage? - Yeah. Don't stop believing. - You have disadvantage, yeah. - So disadvantage taking me off of advantage. - Right, yes. - So I'm gonna do this two more times. - Okay, with disadvantage. - With? - Well, with regular attack. - I'm sorry, yeah, with advantage. - Well, with regular attack.

- You're targeting null number one and null number three, I'm guessing. The ones that are surrounding you. - No, no, I can do it to one target if I want to. I can do it two more times to the same target. - Okay. - And I'm going straight for pack lord. - Okay. Okay, that's gonna hit him second time. Three damage to the pack lord and you get one more. That's gonna miss. - Okay, cool. - So you did some damage. - Thank you. - Oh, Elorath, your turn. - Okay, she's just gonna try and keep swinging at null number three here 'cause he's right in her face and she doesn't want him to be.

So advantage, she's gonna maybe try an overhead swing with her flail, try and really knock this guy on his noggin. So here we go. - Good luck. - Please, please. Oh my gosh! - That's a third crit! - Son of a. - Her cry, all allies that you could see gain inspiration if they don't have it. - Yes! - I knew I shouldn't have kept my, I knew it. (laughing) - Oh my goodness. - I was thinking the whole time, like I should just blow this 'cause Elorath's just gonna pump more out. (laughing) - Okay, so. - Damn. - Crit damage plus my barbarian level, which would be four.

- Can I tell you something? - What? - Each time you're swinging with this flail, and each time it is just coated in blood and viscera, bits of scalp and hair and clumps of gnoll all over it, each time you successfully collide with the back of a gnoll's skull and knock 'em for a loop, that bright red light is going to get brighter and brighter. This time I'd like you to roll two D6 and add that to your crit damage. (laughing) - Okay, all right. Okay, so it's not for some reason letting me do like the barbarian level thing. So just add four to this. - Okay.

Jesus, okay, so that's 13. - Plus four, so 17. - Uh-huh. - And then you said two D6? - Yep. - Boom. Another 11. - Jesus. - Wow. - It's a cliteration. - I killed him dead. - He's just gone. - Yeah, no. - Like we don't know where he went. - That gnoll is dead, very dead. - There's just a puddle of piss and blood on the floor. - I knocked him back down into hell. - Oh my God, yes. - Also, if that's the case, then she's gonna use the chance to like just keep raging and moving on past Merrick here to gnoll, to be adjacent to Gnoll Hunter number one. - All right, good Lord, okay.

- (speaking in foreign language) - Wow. Gnoll Hunter number one. - What's up, bitch? - How you feeling? - How you feeling, Gnoll Hunter one? - Gnoll Hunter one is gonna target Merrick. This is seriously, the gnolls are a bit superstitious. So this is almost like a zombie continuing to get up. They know they've done enough that that should kill a human, should kill a human. And he just keeps getting back up. He's gonna target Merrick with advantage, raise his spear. And stab down at Merrick. Once, almost a crit that's going to hit. That will knock Merrick out.

Raise his spear one more time and try to run Merrick through. - This guy has narcolepsy. That was mean. - That was so mean. - Oh man. - Two death saving strikes right there. That's two fails. We're back to where we started again. - Clara, your turn. - I'm going to unmute and then I'm going to come over here. - Okay. - And she's just gonna be swearing in the drow still. Just like whatever she's saying in drow, it sounds terrible, but like it kind of is translating to fuck you and desperately like we need to get away from Merrick, but she can't really say that when he's her friend, obviously.

- Right. - That's kind of why she's saying it in drow. - Did you say we need to get away from Merrick in under common? - In drow, yeah. - Evelyn not. That's all. - And she's like screaming it. So he would definitely hear, but also she's impressed seeing another drow. Just a little minor action. - Short sword on the big gnoll. - You have advantage. - Oh. - Oh my goodness. - This has to be the most times this has ever happened. - That is a miss. - All right. I'm going to hold on to my last combat die. - You do have inspiration. - I do have inspiration. - You also have an offhand attack.

- Fine. Okay, you know what? Just cause I used the last time and it worked out, I'm going to use inspiration and do short sword again. - All right. - Let's go. - That will hit almost a crit again. That's like your 19th 19. - If I were a battle master or wait, no, what are you, Evelyn? - Champion. - If I were a fucking champion, I would be destroying this thing. - Oh, especially with your two hits, you'd be killing everything. - All right. So there's that. - Nine damage to the gnoll pack Lord. - And then the sickle. - 18. (laughing) - Four damage. - I'm sorry to do that many, but it's, hopefully it's enough to draw his goddamn attention away from Merrick.

- We're going to see. - All right. Knoll number one is going to target Evelyn with a spear. - A spear. - 19. That'll hit. - Not a crit. - Not a crit. - Four damage to Evelyn. This is the nastiest fight you guys have been in. Oh my God. Okay. Here's what we're going to do. This pack Lord is incensed that Merrick still lives, still just keeps clawing back. And he really wants to take his glaive and bring it down on Merrick and just cut his goddamn head off. However, Clara is stabbing him. So he's torn between his want to make sure Merrick never gets up again and his want to keep his kidneys in his body.

So I'm going to roll a D20 and on a 10 or higher, he's going to turn around and start targeting Clara. Nine or below, he is going to stab down at Merrick. Are we all ready? - Ready. - Put your good vibes out in the universe. Here we go. - All right, hold on, hold on. Good vibes, dude. - Okay. - Here we go. Flat D20, go. 17. - Thank God, hit me. Yes. - I mean, I hate it, but yay. (laughing) - Good vibes. - You just, he's just on the floor. - I love you. - Hit me. - Packlord's going to turn around, target Clara. Stop targeting Merrick. Two swings with a glaive with advantage.

One. 18 is going to hit. Two. 20 is going to hit. - For a second, I thought that was the damage for the first roll. - No, here we go. - 'Cause you've done that every time. Every other time you did damage first and then the second hit. - Okay, here we go. First damage is 12. - It's not 20, I'll take it. - Second damage is six. That'll drop Clara. - No. - Fuck. Shit. - Avalon, you're up. Fucking gnolls, man. - I have to, I have to drop the one in front of me, so I'm going to take an attack with advantage. - Okay. - Okay, here we go. - You got Efenny flanking it from the other side.

- This is a two-handed coming, bearing down on it. - Here we go. - Oh, that was an un-roll again. - Okay, roll one more. You hit it either way. - What do I crit? No, hell no. - God, no, no, no, but you'll hit it. - Okay, okay, okay. Big bucks, no whammies. That's a little bit of a wham right there. - Yeah, that's three damage to the gnoll. - Okay. Fuck. - You just keep holding on. - Where are tanky bastards? - Fuck. I mean. - Oh, I do have an inspiration, but that was already advantage, I think. - Yeah. I mean, you can roll it again. If you want to use your inspiration die and just try for the crit.

- Well, I already rolled damage, right? - Yeah. - Does that mean I can try again? - Well, it's up to you. The only way that would change anything is if you crit. - Yeah, no, I'm okay. I'd rather hit. - All right, good. Okay. Anything else? - No, that's it. - Daphne, be the hero we need. - No pressure. - That can level kill wins on Marichium. (laughing) - That's, you laugh, but this is why C'tharyx and others exist in battle. - I just imagine he's getting up like a, the undertaker every time. - Yeah. - Eight. - That's what's scaring the gnolls. - Eight health to Maric.

- He's basically, he's like back to normal. - Thank you again. - Welcome. - How many more of those do you have? - Not many. I have two spell slots left guys. Two spell slots left. - We'll do this as long as it takes. Come on. (laughing) - Marich. (laughing) - Oh my God. Marich at this point is, he's dazed. Like, I mean, he just doesn't, whatever. He just keeps waking up and seeing this pack Lord and then just attack, attack, attack, whatever just comes to him as a, as an instinct. And this time it's just going to be, he's going to. - I hate to interrupt. - Oh, go ahead.

- Could you roll a D4 for me? - Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Sorry, sorry, sorry. - It's okay. One. - No big deal. - Okay. - No big deal. - Marich is just going to like basically lift his mace with both hands and stab like, like it's like, he's just going to push it into this Knoll pack Lord's chest. Right? It is pretty sharp. So it's kind of, it's bludgeoning, but whatever. - Let's do it. - Advantage. - Advantage, yep. - Yes. - That is a crit. - Fucking crit. Thank God. - Simply stunning. In addition to the nine damage you just did to the pack Lord, he is going to be stunned until the end of your, it's next turn.

Sorry. - Thank God. - So that pack Lord is stunned now and cannot do much of anything. - Oh, get him. Please get him. - Elrath, you are up. - Fuck this Knoll pack Lord. Fuck him right in his stupid fucking face. - Okay. - Advantage. I'm going to swing with my flail and try and maybe do like an uppercut, knock his head off of his shoulders. - Let's do it. - I'm crossing my fingers so hard. Come on, please. Oh my God. - Gonna drop a two, take an 18. - Yes. - That will hit. - Okay, so add please four to this. Cause for some reason it is still not letting me do it. - Sure, that's fine.

- Okay. I apologize. - That's okay. 13 damage. - Is he still up? - He's still gonna be standing. - God damn it. - Still gonna be standing. - What? Okay, let's see. - She's gonna scream at him, just die. - Anything else? - That's it, that's our turn. - Holy shit. This pack hunt. Okay, Knoll Hunter. He's gonna take two swings. - B. - One at Marik. - The fuck. - Bring it. We'll do it. We'll do this again. (laughing) - Happy. - Now the good news is, wait, Marik is standing. The other guy is stunned. So no advantage. So here we go. One to Marik. That'll hit. - God damn it. - Max damage.

- Oh my God. - Is that another nap? Oh no. - Are you fucking kidding me? - I can't fucking believe this. He's gonna take a second swing and he's going to target Klara. - What? No. Fucking, I'm right here. - Definitely with advantage. These corpses keep rising. - Does he give advantage even though he's stunned? - No, but Klara gives advantage 'cause she can't fight back. - Oh, she's unconscious, I apologize. - Yeah, so that will miss. I don't know how. (sighs) - What it does. Klara, please give me a death saving roll. - That just a flat D20? - Yes. - Okay. - 17. - So that's one save.

- Yep, one save. What a rollercoaster this is. - God, I cannot handle. - Rule number one is just, how's his morale going? - Okay. - What? - He's got, that's just for me. I just wanna see what he is. He's going to turn around and target Efenny. - Shit. - Because they're starting to pick up, wait a second. Every time she slaps that dead guy, he gets up. - Why does she keep touching that dead guy's ass? - They just have like a chalkboard and they're making scientific coats. - Oh, I'm going to miss. After the fifth time, I'm starting to get it. - It is pointed to you like little smaller gnomes and like our gnolls and like lab coats, boys in the lab.

- All right, here we go. No advantage, just gonna take a stir. Crit miss. - Yes. - Eat it bitch. - Doesn't have to roll on the table, but that is a crit miss will miss Efenny. No pack Lord's just gonna stand there and think about life. But after his turn, he is no longer stunned and it's Avalon's turn. Do something. - Do it right. - Something or another, okay. Avalon's gonna come down again with the two-hander to try to finish off the null one. I do get advantage again. So what else that can happen? Here we go, here we go, here we go. - That'll miss. - No way, can I do inspiration?

- You got inspiration, yeah. Roll one more. - One more regular roll with advantage. - Just one more regular roll. - Okay. Do it. For all the North marbles. - Oh my God. - The exact same thing. - I'm gonna hit my head on a wall or something. That's my turn though. - Oh my God, Efenny. - Can I make an argument? - Sure. - I think he gets to re-roll with advantage because it's just re-rolling the roll, not re-rolling one D20. - He also has Bardic Inspiration. - Oh. - Oh, nevermind, I withdraw my. - Inspiration just lets you re-roll a roll. I don't know if you get to re-roll that with advantage.

- I don't know if it re-starts like the attack or if it's just another D20 roll. - I would say no because that would be the third one. You know what I mean? That's just bad luck after the third one. - That's fair. - But Bardic Inspiration. - Yes, I'll definitely take that. - So that's adding a D6. - That's adding a D6, yep. - One. Is that the magic number? - Damn it. - That would be just enough to hit him. - Yes. - Oh my God. - Yes. - Eight damage. - That will kill the North. (laughing) - Thank fucking God. - We'll take his movement to move one, two, three, three, four, five.

Right here. - Holy shit. - You can stay right here. - Okay, Ephany, your turn. - It's all in between healing and attacking. I guess a level one Cure Wounds on Merrick. - Oh my God. (laughing) - It's my savior. - Oh my God. - Wait, who's the, wait. All right. - Oh shit. - It's like she's the cleric. - Sorry. I feel like it this battle. That's not much, I'm sorry, but it wakes you up again. - Three. - Yeah, I mean, couldn't you do better? (laughing) - You know what, get your ass back down on the ground. Go back to dirt napping, fuck you. - He's like, oh, I can heal myself better than this.

- I think you're just blacking out and losing chunks of time. - Yeah. - Like people are changing positions like, oh, huh? And everyone's moved again. There's new holes in him. - Doesn't phase him at all. He just gets up. - Okay, anything else from Ephany? - No, I don't like them. - Oh my God, Merrick. - Merrick, at this point, you might as well just wolf out. You're getting bullied too much. - Merrick, I need you to roll a, - Just joking. - I'm not, I need you to roll a D4 and I need everybody to put good vibes in the universe again because - Goodbye. - We need a low, low, low, low.

- You just jinxed us. - Man, I'm so sorry, I'm so, so, so, so sorry. - I got us guys. - Good vibes. - Okay. - Shit. - Oh no, don't tell me, no. - That's a four. - Merrick is officially out of stress die. Merrick is going to spend his turn convulsing on the ground and starting to spread out. His back is going to arch. - Oh no. - His armor is going to start to flex as, Elorath your turn. - Fuck, okay. - What would your reaction be to this? There are two gnolls left on the battlefield. Merrick is going to drop and just start to like strain and grunt. - Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run.

- First she's going to swing at the whole pack of lorick. I don't know why, would he, no, he wouldn't be granting advantage, would he? I mean, he's still there. - No. - Fuck, okay. - Okay then. Okay, I'm going to actually roll a D20 because I think there are two options to what she would do. - Okay. - The first is swing one more time at an old pack lord and then try to get the fuck out. The second is freeze. - Okay. - Because he's a werewolf and she's done this before and she is freaked out. I think that's the two options she can do. - Oh my God. - So what I'm going to do is that if she rolls high, then she's going to attack and like keep her wits.

- Right. - So let's probably say what, 10 or above. - Okay. - Oh God. Okay. - Oh, that's a 15. - Okay, so she's going to, okay. She's going to target an old pack lord and try to swing at him with her flail. Oh, she'll try. - Good luck. - Okay, you're not targeting him, but that will hit. - Dang it, oh, I thought I was attacking. I am targeting him. - Oh, you are, why doesn't it say, all kinds of glitches today. That'll hit. - Okay, plus four, so 11, 'cause I'm raging still. - Okay. - And then still no. - Yeah, still up. - Motherfucker. Okay, then she's going to yell run and she's not even going to care about disengaging.

She's going to run the fuck as far away as she can in this direction. - Okay. - And probably actually try to scoop up Efanny on her way. - Okay, hold up. That means you're going to take two opportunity attacks from the pack lord. Two, pack lord and the gnoll. Okay, so pack lord first, glaive attack. Nope, that will miss. And Hunter's going to use spear, that's a plus four. 13? - I think that misses. Nope, that hits, that hits, I apologize. - Okay. - Sorry, I got real excited for a second. - That's okay, so this is. - I do still have a resistance to blood and piercing and slashing damage.

- Okay, so that's one D eight plus two, which would be seven damage, so you're only going to take three. - I'll take it. - Okay. - And if she can, she's going to scoop up Efanny 'cause she's right there behind her and run. - Yeah, I would say that that would be a whole other thing. - Negative on that? - Negative on that one. - Okay, well then she's just going to run and yell, run! - Oh my God, no Hunter. - And then move as far as, hang on, sorry. One, two, three, four, as far as she can. Boop, right there. - No, oh boy. - Sorry guys. - All right, well, Jason, Mary doing that has to be some sort of distraction to these guys, they can't be unfazed.

- I'm not. - Right? Oh, well we got a werewolf, fuck it, let's keep attacking. - I don't know if they'd know what a werewolf would be. I know that, no Hunter one would know that you hit him. - That's true. - So he's going to take two spear strikes at Avallon with no advantage or anything. Oh boy, howdy. Okay. One, miss. - He's just inciting chaos. - Two, hit. Six damage to Avallon. This pack Lord on the other hand. Oh wait, Klara, give me a flat D 20 please, death saving throw. - 12. - That's another success. - Cool, Merrick's going to eat my insides. - No pack Lord.

- I don't think Klara would be the main attraction now. Normally I think the pack Lord would stab down at Klara. I think Merrick's the main attraction now. Merrick has three hit points technically, and he's in the midst of transformation. I would say if this pack Lord hits Merrick and does at least eight damage, that would be enough to knock out Merrick mid transformation and avoid all this. Also might be enough to kill him. We'll see. So let's go with advantage glaive attack. That'll hit. Glaive attack again with advantage. That'll hit. - Damn it. Shit, okay.

- Merrick is out on the ground, Avalon. - Good news and bad news. - Good news and bad news. - Avalon's going to, he's going to sleep around the no hunter one. Is there a way I can step on Klara's space to try to protect her? Like shield myself in front of, okay. - No, you can't occupy the same space, you can, yeah. - I'm going to make a two handed long sword attack on the no pack Lord. - Okay, here we go. - No advantage to anything because everybody's down. - Yeah. - Here we go. 17. - That'll hit. - Let's roll some damage. Eight. - That will kill the pack Lord.

- Fucking hell. - And as that happens, Avalon's going to jump right here. - Okay. - And try to protect his friends. - All right. - Just the way he tried to protect his friends. - Effany. - How's no hunter one feeling right now? Just curious. - Alone. Effany. - I'm going to move here if that's possible. - Uh huh. - I'm going to gently, gently pat my friends and give a level one kill wounds. Shit. Three health back to Quar, Quar is up. - Thank you. - You're welcome. - Holy shit. Okay. Merrick, here's the situation. You have two failed death saving throws. I need you to give me a death saving throw and hope for a high roll.

- Jesus. Is this like the, this is like it. - This is it. - Seriously? - This is it. - Where did he get the two? - From the strikes from the pack Lord. - Oh, I thought that was just what knocked him out. - Well, no, that, that it knocked him out with death saving throws. - Oh shit. - Cause it's, it's, it's caught up in the whole Wolf transformation thing. So, so this is it. You're hoping for 10 or higher. - Right, 10 or higher. This could be the end of Merrick. - I believe in you. I believe. - You've got this. - Oh man. This is going to be below a 10. - No, I won't.

- No, we don't know that. - That's defeatist. - I do know that. I do know it. - Before we go in, do you have an inspiration die? Yes. Cause you were within sight earlier and you have not used it. - I believe inspiration die can be used on death saving throw. - So that means I can do this again if I need to. - Yeah. - 17 is a save. - Easy money. - Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. - Holy shit. Okay. I, Elarath. - Okay. Now I feel bad cause she started to run away. - That could be fixed. - Yeah, I know. But I was just wondering, I was like, I think once she realized that nobody would be following her she'd probably turn around and realize that nobody was following her.

So she's saying fuck and then run back. - Target, null hunter one and then swing at him with her flail. - All right. Good luck. - With advantage. Here we go. - 15 will hit. - Yeah. - Nice. - Okay. So one, two, three. Okay. It's letting me do it this time for whatever reason. So here's the damage. Fuck. - Oh, that's okay. So seven damage. That's not bad. - Okay. And I believe that she's, she's going to look at Merrick and see that he's unconscious and just like, she doesn't like being right there, but okay. - All right. - Null hunter one is realizing the jig is up and this is just maddening.

Like I would say there'd be like this, this tiny roar coming from this thing, just whatever, whatever a null, whatever you picture that high pitched squeal like that. Yeah. - I'm going to roll a flat D 20. On a 10 or higher, he's going to swing at someone other than Merrick. On a one through nine, he is going to swing at Merrick. That is a 12. He's going. - He's like surrounded with people who are standing up. - I know. I would say he's going to swing at Efenny. - Mm-hmm. - So rude. - Beer attack. That'll miss. - Run away you little shit. - Clara you're up. - All right.

So Clara's going to stand up, realize everything that's going on and just attack null hunter number one with everything she's got. Short sword. - Quick miss. - Fumble effect. Let me roll. - Did you already use your inspiration? - Yes. 15. - Oh my God. - Okay. - 10 seconds. Fine. What do I got? - Trick knee. Your knee hyper extends awkwardly. You have one quarter movement speed and cannot charge for one to four plus six rounds. That really doesn't affect you all that much. - All right. So that's fine. Gonna attack him with my sickle next. - That will hit. - Oh, I didn't roll for how many rounds that's gonna last.

- It's fine right now. - Okay. - You have advantage on that. - Should I roll for that? All right. And here's my sickle damage. - You have advantage on that. - Oh shit. I had advantage for the first one too, didn't I? - Mm-hmm. - So can I re-roll? I'm sorry. I fucked that up. - Yeah. Okay. Go ahead. Hold on. I gotta undo. - I'm sorry. - That's okay. That's okay. - I know this fight has been a fucking nightmare. - Okay. - I didn't mean to make it harder. - No, you're fine. Go ahead and roll again for the first attack. - All right. For short sword. - That's gonna miss. - But at least the fumble didn't take effect and whatever.

And then do you want to just keep the second roll like the same? - You got to swing again anyway. - Okay. (gasps) - Oh. - Oh. - There's your crit. - There's a crit. - Okay. - I don't roll on the table. - Nope. But you do crit damage to this gnoll. - Critical. Yay. I remembered how to do that. It's been so long. It's been 87 years. - That will kill the gnoll. - Yay. - Jesus. - Thank God. - We'll take you out of combat. - Someone tie up Merrick. - Yeah. - Just kidding. - Do it. - It won't help. That said, that does mean we can stabilize Merrick, right? - Yup. Well, does anyone have any heal spells?

- Nope. I don't believe so. So we would have to medically like stabilize him. - Yeah. - Which means he wouldn't regain consciousness if I recall correctly. It means he just can stop making death saving throws. Basically you, if you're out of combat. So I believe he wakes up in 1D4 hours. - That will give us time to figure out what we should do. - What the hell to do. - Yeah. - Guys, on the note of you surviving this gnoll attack and saving at least two people and faced with the decision of what to do with Merrick. I think that's a good time for us to stop for the evening.

- Bullshit. - Oh Jesus. Tap dancing Christ. - See now I look like a dickhead because I was like, oh, Merrick wolfed out, never. Merrick said that. - To be fair, he did not finish wolfing out. - He promised he wouldn't. - Not yet. - Ben didn't. - Ben won't. - I mean, he took a lot of punishment. - He did. - That was a lot. - Jason, could I ask a meta question? - Sure. - You probably won't tell me, but what happens when Merrick wakes up? - Here's the thing, you don't know. - I didn't think so. - Dun dun dun. - That's fair, that's fair. - You guys are faced with a choice.

Merrick might be in exactly the same place he was when he regains consciousness, just as stressed out, having no idea how much time has passed and whatever bonds you put him in, he might Hulk out and just try to kill everyone. - How about we just leave him with a note with directions? - Not the worst idea. - Meet us by the big mammoth. - Not the, really not the worst idea. - So- - Remember the mammoth guys, that was fun. - Here's the thing, he might wake up with, he might wake up feeling a little bit more refreshed and okay, but you don't know. So do you leave him?

Do you hope for the best when he recovers? Do you tie him up and just maybe take swings at him when he wakes up? Do you kill him before he has a chance to wake up so that no one gets hurt? - Give him a little print pick with the silver dagger while he's sleeping, just to make sure, no, I'm joking. This might be the first time that like between sessions, we have a long conversation in the Facebook page. - It's true. - Whoa, I hope you guys enjoyed today's episode.
