Previously for Group C, the team makes it to the town of Aldmoor, and after meeting some of the locals they finally find Diana and tell her about all the trouble that House Dragonkeep has been having. Diana decides that it's time to head south, but not before giving the team a mission to go to Uminiero. There they should be able to find someone who has studied the occult extensively and might be able to help banish a demon. While speaking with Diana they meet Iris, who decides to join their party and head north to Uminiero.

And that's where we pick things up today. Let's do that thing where we go around the table and introduce ourselves. I'm Jason, I'm the Dungeon Master. Going around the table starting with Mandy. Hi, this is Mandy and I'm playing Iris, the new human intern. And Jasper. I'm Jasper, I play Maric, Ethelred, human cleric. And Bree. Hi there, I'm Brianna and I play Klara, Uroth, Dale, the half-Drow Weeb. And Lisa. Hey, I'm Lisa and I play Elrath, Beastinger, the halfling barbarian. And Zac. What's up, my name is Zac and I play Iplan Bates, the human fighter. And Ryan.

It is the second of Aldehorn. And the party is still in the little town of Aldemore. You have met some new friends. And you essentially sent... You sent one of them packing already. Obviously, that wasn't going to be a long-term thing.

But you did get somebody to kind of join you. That really wasn't the aim of the party, but I mean an extra set of hands can't hurt. So Iris has joined the party. I guess my question to you guys is... You are on a bit... not a huge time crunch. I guess you can move as fast as you'd like to move. But obviously staying in towns is a little rare. You've been on the road more than you're not. Is there something you guys would like to do in the town of Aldemore before you take off? Well, general supplies, right? Stock up on any sort of rations. Yeah, I always kind of assume you guys are doing that.

Again, you guys are travelers. You know what to... You get your dried meats, you get some bread, you get fresh water, all that stuff. Is there a creature comfort you guys want to try and leave town with? Like a candy or some sort of... Like a baked good or something like that? A little taste of home? Is there a candy spider of any type? Like a dipping caramel, maybe? Candy crickets. You know what? At the risk of grossing out listeners again, we won't go into horrific detail. But, Clara, if you could do me a favor and roll a flat d10, let's see what they might have in Aldemore that might give you a little taste of the Underdark.

In Brightport, Brightport's kind of like the New York City of Allure, right?

So you can run into a falafel stand, and then a place that sells Philly cheese sticks, and then good Italian food. You can kind of be all over the place. In Aldemore, they're probably gonna play it a little safer. So the most they're probably gonna have is a small lizard on a stick type of thing. Or they probably package up, not like candies, but they probably package up bits of cured jellies or moss, something like that. Which is completely edible, but they probably sweeten it a bit, because by themselves, they're usually quite bitter and gross. Okay, I have names for these.

So you guys could even crash in town for the night and get started in the morning, or you could just get started at night if you want. Oh, by the way, is there, are there any supplies any of you need? Like, um, new armor? I mean, you guys aren't exactly rolling in dough, but you're not broke. Uh, I don't think I need anything. Like, nothing's broken, right? Like, armor-wise? Well, it depends. What does five gold get you around here? *laughter* Wow. I thought you had more than that. Didn't you get stuff from, 'cause we got like 250 gold from the tomb, didn't we?

I don't think we ever clarified who has it, so it could be in anyone's possession. Okay. Then I guess at some point we can dig it up and just throw it in, in Varus's inventory. Okay. Oh. That's a conservative estimate though. Yeah. And it's about 8 feet tall. It's made out of old Claudius's fur. *laughter* So, etiquette-wise, let me ask you guys a question. Because at this point, you guys have kind of become this Katamari ball, and you grab up new people from time to time. Is it like a standard practice to have dinner with your new party member to kind of get to know each other? Or is it more just like, alright, show up at this place tomorrow morning and we'll be out of here? Do they get like an orientation packet? I like the dinner thing.

Yeah, that sounds like fun. We're not in a big rush to, like we're not in a panic about anything. I think it makes sense to maybe not pamper, but at least treat ourselves for something like that without there being a motive otherwise. Right. What would Iris's favorite kind of food be? Oh, Iris likes to try a lot of different things. So she's been loving all the more with all the different, like, it's like, "Oh, we never had that before. What is this?" And so at best she'd be like, "Oh, anywhere is fine. Maybe not the lantern. I've heard stories, but anywhere you'd like, sure." Mandy, that was a good call back.

Is there a direction that sounds like there would be less noise, like maybe a little quieter getting away from the festival side? I would say by evening that starts quieting down a little bit. You could tell that there are certain street performers that probably spread out and target people alongside the road. That's why when you guys came in, it was so bustling and busy. But by the time nighttime rolls around, okay, there is this awful thing in Aldmoor.

It is a common practice. So like you'll have a little outdoor type of restaurant seating here and there and performers will walk up to you while you're eating. Oh, have that happen. Oh, it's the worst. And they'll just trick. I don't want your magic trick. Yep, yep, yep. Or I'm like a mime and I'm coming up next to you. It's like, "Mmm, just doing shit." And you're like, "I just trying to eat my spaghetti here, man." I thought you were trying to have us imagine a mime that comes up going, "I am a mime." A really bad mime. It's the worst. Really. So, okay, here's what I'd like to do.

One, I would like, I think Iris should roll a flat D10 to see just what kind of restaurant you guys go to. Because you know when you throw a dart at the board, sometimes you get really lucky. Like we went to a place last night on the way home from the store and it was amazing. But sometimes you just kind of, you just kind of, you don't read Yelp reviews ahead of time. You try it out and it's very disappointing. So, Iris, please. Give me a D10. D10. The higher the roll, the better the eats. Oh. You guys are not having a lot of luck in Aldenmore. Roaches in our cups again.

No, no, no. It's down. It's not, you know, okay, I think Aldenmore is just not known for its cuisine. So I think, and I don't want to put words in anybody's mouth, but of the people in the party, this is probably going to bother Merrick the most, right? Like this is, like you hate to see customer service and food service done poorly. And this is like all of it. Like you guys sit down to order. And like it's 20 minutes before a server comes to you and then they get your orders and they bring back the wrong shit or they'll mix up sauces where it's like, oh, no, I wanted the sauce on the side and they wanted it spicy and you mixed it all up.

It's all fucked. So with a one out of 10, oof, it's not only is the food bad, it's not dirty or anything. It's just terrible service. Just the worst. So, so just make sure this is clear. The food isn't particularly bad. It's just that it's a bad experience. Or is the food not great? The food? Okay. By itself, maximum, the food would be like a four out of 10. It's not the worst. It's like having a bad pizza. Yeah, it's like it's not worth eating. It's like cardboard. It's like fine. It'll keep me alive. But it's sustenance, but it's not like, wow, what a great dinner.

But the fact that you're sitting there stewing, waiting for your food and then sitting there waiting for the check and then sitting that you just like, you know what, man, I just this is a two hour thing. And this was not without Maric's going to like his stress levels probably to the roof. Do me a favor, roll a D4. I was really joking, but I will do that. I'm really not. Thank you. So question. Okay. Not to derail any of this D&D that we're playing tonight, but Maric's going to have to do something about this. I'm sorry. It's Maric's thing. I think at some point he's probably getting really quiet.

You know that feeling whenever people are talking and having a good time and but you have to pee and you're kind of not really paying attention because it's like I really, really got to go. Right. That kind of you know what I'm talking. So that kind of feeling like driving or something. Yeah. We were talking earlier. I wasn't listening to what you said. What? I didn't hear you. So do you know that it's going to be bards next year? The. All right. So the point is Maric's like probably getting a little jittery, like he's like, it's probably really getting to him.

I think at some point he probably would get up. He's not going to tell anybody. Maybe he's getting up to go to the bathroom or something. Speaking of peeing. I think he would actually go probably just go straight into the kitchen. Okay. And kind of kind of in it like impulsively like, oh, I'm just going to go fucking whip it into shape real quick. Oh, I thought you were going to say I'm just going to whip it out. Yeah. And then whip it into shape. Just show him who's boss like it's a play for dominance. I think, you know, not out of anger, but just sort of like I can't allow this.

Like, I know that this can be better. Let me just just give it to me. Just give it to me. Kind of a of an attitude. So he's going to just be probably just going to go back in the kitchen. He's not going to angry or like yelling or making a big scene. It's just like, all right, everybody, let's do this. Oh, man. Okay, so check this out. One, I think it would be a while before they even notice you're in the kitchen. Like, yeah. Okay. There are two chefs, and they're both talking to each other. They're both very much in their own world. Like they're kind of gossiping.

They're just they're just sharing stories. And you could tell the more they they kind of share stories, the more excited they're getting and they get lost in the new tangent story. It's like, Oh, my God, I was telling Sandy the other day that blah, blah, blah. And they just they're getting sick. So it takes them unless you clear your throat. Well, like, here's what he's going to do. Is there any sort of apron or something that he would be able to just look to his left and there's like one sort of balled up over there on the table? He would find something and put it on like, okay, let's go.

We're going to do this. And if they didn't notice him, he would go right up to them and sort of just clap them on the back. You know, like put his hands. All right, let's go. Let's do this. Oh, boy. So they're going to stop talking to each other. And one's going to look at the other like, do you know this guy? And the other is just like, I've never seen him before in my life. So the first one, she's going to turn back to you. Can we help you? Yep. Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on. And Merrick's just going to start getting stuff ready. He's going to be starting prep.

He's going to be starting to move whatever needs to be put on top of a flame on top of a flame. He's going to start pointing like start chopping those things up or whatever. He's just he's just starting to start whatever because I'm not a chef, so I don't know what people do, but he's going to be pointing to the right things and be like, go, you start with that thing. And he's not again, he's not being a dick. I mean, they might think so. He's he's just directing. Sorry, I was counting down till there was there was a Ramsey reference and Zach came through.

It's raw. Could you do me a favor and roll a persuasion check? Like, I want to see. So there's this thing, right? That basically you can go anywhere you want as long as you walk in with purpose. This kind of like it's like, oh, if you walk in with with enough of an air of confidence, people will just assume you belong there. So if you roll a persuasion check and it's high enough, they're just going to assume not only you belong there, but you must be like in charge of something. Like you must you got your you're convinced anyway. Jesus Christ. All right.

Let me just I want to paint a picture here. You. Uh huh. I'm just going to paint the picture of what I just saw. Crit. Crit. So so I don't know. I know there's not a particular cuisine that all more is known for, but I'm imagining that there's some sort of seafood type dish of some sort. It could be like prawns or grilled octopus or something. I don't know. There's the prawn side of things, right? There's going to be some sort of like skirt steak something something with steak frites like french fries on the side. But there are fancy and there's going to be an amazing vegetable dish, which is nothing but vegetables.

But it would be the kind of thing that Avalon would even say, like, this was amazing and not even think about there not being some meat or something like that. And just whip it up. OK. Are you telling me that you went and did this before your meals came and the weight was just bothering you? Or did you eat and were so dissatisfied with the outcome that you didn't want another patron to get the service you got? Yeah. So be clear. The food had arrived. The food wasn't very good. Four out of 10, which to Merrick would be a super fail. Right. Right. It's got to be an eight or above to even be acceptable in putting in front of somebody.

So we got food. Merrick not like, hey, is everybody OK? Do you like your food? I'm not really so sure. He's not. He's just I've got to fix this problem. Like there's a there's a leaky, not only there's a pipe that burst and there's water going everywhere. We have to stop it. Right. That kind of an. Right. So he he just went back in the kitchen and just start like. But basically, let's focus on these three dishes. I don't care what's on the menu. I don't care what anybody's told anybody. We're focusing on this. We've got the right ingredients. I've got you. We're going to do this and we're going to just pump this out.

And everybody's going to get one of the we're going to take one of each to every table, like whatever we're going. Go, go, go, go, go. And yet you you walked in with such confidence and such bravado that they're just there. They're going to be convinced. It's like, oh, shit, we got to get going. Like they're they're just they are completely in line. Like they're they're going to, you know, work their butts off. And again, they may not be experienced chefs. But what I would say is more their problem is lack of motivation. Right. So, yeah, they'll they'll follow your instructions.

They'll they'll get on it. So I would imagine this food gets out to people and they're probably a bit more pleased than they were. OK. Are you bringing anything to your friends? Is it? Yeah. OK. That's first. You know, the first wave of everything in America's not going to do it. Maric's going to say this goes to table three. Gotcha. Go. And they're not going to know probably even what's going on unless they come check. But it's just like there's a new there's new food. While this is going on, I would imagine you're chatting, getting to know Iris. Yeah. Yes. Wondering where Maric went to bed.

He's always doing his thing. He's fine. I don't know how much time we have before the new food comes out, but I assume we have a conversation. Probably a bit of time. Yeah. You got to cook everything from scratch. And Maric's probably a bit of perfectionist. So, yeah, you got time. So, Avlin will kind of break a little ice here and he'll say to Iris, do you read like that often? Not often. I try. I heard about Audemars library and I was very interested, but I'm really more of a people person. Diana was was really the scholar. I, I just hung around her, tried to glean information from her just from, you know, being around her.

Because studying is not my thing. I'll always read read to you if you wish, of course. Avlin, right? Yes. I am also a person of people. I can sense that. He's looking at you with these soulless eyes. But there's just way too many people. It does get crowded, yes. I agree. But it's fun every now and then. Getting with the people, partying. Are there like jugglers in the rest, like performers in the restaurant? Is that kind of what you were saying earlier? It's um, there are some brave ones every once in a while that will see a group no matter where the group is seated. So they might go inside, depending on how, actually, you know what? Oh, no. Iris is a really big people person, so she's chit-chatting, just like, "Oh!" Trying to move conversation on as they munch on their not so great food and not knowing where Maric is.

And just saying, "Oh, so what brought you all together? Tell me your stories. What brought you here besides Diana, of course. Where did you come from?" Clara will kind of look to LRS and then back up to Iris and say, "Well, I think we all just kind of came together with the same purpose." Trying to make a name for ourselves as adventurers, I think. Kind of scanning the group to make sure that that's not too far off because they've all come for very specific different reasons at the same time, but in general, that's the idea. Yeah, I think LRS would probably be nodding, just like, "Yeah." Just like, "That sounds about right." She also has like half an eye on the kitchen door because she's like, "What the fuck is he doing?" Did we see him go in the kitchen?

I mean, I think you'd- Was it like you tried to hide it or anything? I don't think you tried to- Like, "Oh, I'm going to the bathroom and then sneak in." How busy is this place? I would say moderately busy with this type of service. Words probably got out where there might be, I don't know, there might be another couple in there and then like three people, like a group of friends just sitting there eating or at least waiting on food. I think we're getting a big surprise. This place's reputation might spike because of tonight, but it's not going to be true because we're going to be gone.

Oh man, it is just like Ramsay. Yeah, it is. It'll be great for a week and then suck again and then go out of business forever. All the more nightmares. Unless they're known for being shitty and then they'll succeed and that doesn't seem fair, but okay. Like shitty people. Oh, the bakery people. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Amy's Bakery. They're doing fine. Then go, wow. I'm just gonna poke my head in the door and make sure that everything's okay. I'll be back and kind of holding his fingers up towards the party and he's gonna start walking towards the door.

Yeah, and if you pop your head in, you'll basically just see three people really hard at work. This would be a good time if Merrick sees that happen. This would be the perfect time for him to say, oh, there's perfect. These go to table two. That's your table. And then that one, that one, that one go. We should have warned him about that. So as soon as you hand him the food, it's like, does this, is this what an intern does? Yes, exactly. Yeah, Merrick, you just got promoted. Okay, so I get paid, but promoted. Oh, it's unpaid promotion. He'll go back to the table with the food, set it down, and then just like tell the group, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do, but here's the food.

I guess I got to go get more. More food? Wow. Wow. Okay, Merrick, let's. It's involuntary now. Okay. So Ferris will go back for round two, I guess. He's expediting. While they're doing that, Clara would probably kind of ask Iris after looking at her outfit, because I just asked privately if she's wearing a bunch of Vecna shit and Mandy said yes. So, are you a follower of Vecna? That's unusual. And Iris just smiles really big, just like, yes I am. I am a cleric of Vecna. Thank you for asking. Are you, are you interested in Vecna and learning about my faith? Oh no.

Well, apparently there's a group of adventurers who go into tombs, take the cool things, and then set the traps back up on their way out. So like, what were you looking up? Oh, just this and that. They have some really interesting things about demons and dark magic and it's just fascinating to me. You know, when you run into such things on the road, you just want to hear more about it. Do you run into demon on a road? Well, no, but wouldn't be interesting if I did. Oh! She does not like the idea of that. No! And you know, it's always good just in case to know how to defeat one, etc. Information is power, you know. Is it just you hit it in the face? Sometimes. Sometimes I've heard that works, but sometimes they're a bit tricky.

At least so the stories in the book say. I don't know if they're true. Elrath will nod and just be like, all right, I'm going to eat this food now. Just like this smells way better. Let's say by this time, Merrick's back. Varus is, I don't know, Varus might be done his shift too by now. And let's say the group has had a chance to kind of catch up and Merrick and Varus have been filled in on the same information so you don't have to repeat everything. Can I ask how the rest of the group would be dealing with the whole worshiper of Vecna thing? Does that raise a red flag for anybody?

Would that rub anybody the wrong way? Because I know that it's... So Vecna is kind of like death and maybe like undead stuff, right? Yeah, there's like a big blurry line with Vecna where the Raven Queen is all about accepting death and finality. Vecna's kind of the opposite where it's like, yeah, you know, death's a part of life and all that, but that doesn't have to be the end, right? And that rubs a lot of people the wrong way. So where are Aveline's at? We just came from a tomb of Vecna and apparently if that's how its followers do a tomb of Vecna, he's kind of wary.

But she seems so nice that it's a little bit of a contrast. So he's, I don't know, he's just interested. I was just gonna say, I don't think Elorath would really, I think she's like kind of new to like this whole faith thing because like before she was like, okay, that's cool if that's what you want to do. And then since, you know, kind of, Oona Kahl, she's like, oh yeah, it does kind of make sense to have faith. So she's kind of like, that tomb was really fucking creepy. But you know what? You do you, I guess, and you don't seem so bad or creepy. So, all right.

Yeah, and I think Varys is like early Elorath. Just kind of, you know, you do you, I don't really have any of that knowledge. I don't really know what to expect. He wasn't really born or taught any of that stuff. So as long as they're a human being, then he's fine with it. Yeah, no orcs. Sorry. I was just gonna say that Merrick is probably a little bit quiet. He's had a couple of different, I don't know if it's not quite PTSD, but first of all, the tomb of Varkna that we were in, that was pretty harrowing, right? That's what I'm saying. Yeah, it wasn't easy.

But also before that, his experience in the library, the tombed library, the dungeon library long ago, I mean, that was Vekna central, and Darmok was there. And I think if this were the movie of all of this, every once in a while, Merrick would have like that dream of, you know, flashes of Darmok's face in the Vekna library. You know, that would be pretty hardcore. So I'm not saying that he's skeptical of Iris, but just this just makes him uncomfortable. He's probably a little bit quiet and not gregarious about anything. And also exhausted from all of the energy he just expended in the kitchen.

Is he a little more satisfied now, though? Like it's like an itch he had to scratch? At this point, he's tracking everyone to see if they were satisfied. Oh, I would say much more so than earlier. Yes, Evelyn even says to Merrick, "Merrick, this food is amazing." Merrick's going to just clap his hand on Evelyn's back and be like, "God, I could not let you have that shit." That was it. That's all he'll say. I need to ask a follow up question here. Do you guys tell Merrick about the other thing? Oh, I think Iris would. Clara said to you, "Oh, Merrick, Clara said you wouldn't like to know this info.

Royles are here. Ta-da!" He would be speechless for a moment and just stare. There'd be so many things going on in his head because he'd be thinking about this whole Vecna thing, the tomb. And then it would be like, "By the way, the royals," which now just all of a sudden brings everything back together like a buckle on the belt. "The royals. The royals." And he's going to look over at Clara for confirmation. "The royals." She's going to give a little smirk and a nod. Like, "Yep, those royals." And maybe even wiggle her ring finger just to make it very clear.

Merrick's going to speak up and be like, "Who are the royals?" Merrick's going to say, "Okay, a little context. So the royals stole a very important and expensive and magical sword from me. And I've been looking for them for a long time." That's all he's going to say. He's legit going to say it that way. How long is a long time? It's been like two weeks since that probably is. Not even. My entire life, but also the last week or so. Yeah. Yeah, it hasn't been that long. It's been, for me, a very long time, Daris. A very long time. Oh. Well, if they're here, we need to get them.

And he's going to kind of start to stand up from his chair. Merrick's going to stand up to him, but you're right. And he's going to look at Iris and say, "Where did you last see them?" Oh, I personally didn't see them, but they were in town up till maybe four days ago. They were parting it up at all the bars. I'm sure you could find somebody that at least saw them, probably talked to them. They were very raucous. Merrick's going to look at Varus and just point back down at his chair like, "Yeah, yeah, just sit. Just sit." And then Merrick will sit back down too.

Like, a little disappointed. Okay. All right. This is the closest lead we've had in a long time. And Merrick, if it's not already obvious, he clearly thinks that everybody cares about this and prioritizes it. And also, he's clearly a little bit, maybe not deluded, he knows, but he does take this very personally. And so he doesn't expect everybody is going to be doing this necessarily, but he's kind of like, "Sure. I mean, everybody cares about this." So he's going to be like, "Yeah, we've been looking for them for a while. This is the closest we've come.

Okay. All right. I've got to think about this. I've got to think about this." That bar that we were just at, with that big guy thing, sorry, I really don't know what to call them. That's kind of to simulate you maybe like grazing some palms type of thing. It's like, hey, the more information you can give us about these people, the better. Can I do a Wisdom check and then add gold on top of it, or do I need to determine that at once? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You want one for both of us or just Marek? Oof. You know what? Because you're both, let's say you're both out there doing it, do it with advantage. So Marek, roll one more time. Okay. Because you're both assisting. So maybe you're playing, holy shit. All right, so you guys subtract that gold from your total and that brings you up to 17. So here's the information you were able to get, which is pretty, pretty sizable. For one, it sounds like you're dealing with a group of four people. There was a goliath, a dwarf, a tiefling, and a human. Now, these four basically ran up and down town and would not shut up about what they were doing and where their destination was.

These people think very highly of themselves. They tipped very well. And essentially, all they did was drink and tell stories. And like Iris was saying, very, very gregarious, very, very over the top. Their plan is to head north to board their ship, the splendid superior, which was anchored just off the coast near Uminyero. Oh, ha ha. Then they were going to set sail and make a brief stop in Talor before heading to Kodai. And here's what they're doing. What these, let me, let me describe the balls. These people are heading to Kodai to be the first people to find what some people in storybooks are calling the hub.

And the hub is essentially rumored to connect all of the gates. Now, let's say that they pulled this off. In their heads, they would forever be etched in the history books as the people who solved this mystery and essentially granted fast travel between continents to the entire world. They would be infamous. And that's their aim. They're again, they would not shut up about this. Like they, they basically it's a foregone conclusion. It's like, yeah, it's just basically the time it's going to take us to sail there and then we're going to find it. Dear God.

Hey, Merrick. Yeah, Varus. What are the gates? Oh, man. Oh my gosh. Amphan's going to be fucking furious by the Michael. He's going to be fucking furious. They haven't done it yet. When, when Barris says, what are the gates? And then Barrick's going to like turn and stare at him quizzically like, huh? And he's just going to give him a big, big bear hug. Like, oh, Varus, there's so much, so much. And then he's just gonna, he's gonna break the hug and he's going to put his hands like on his cheeks, like, oh, you little innocent something so and so. And he's going to say, Varus, you know what they took from me?

Yeah. I'm going to take that from them. That's so dark. Okay, but, uh, okay. But what are the gates? Yeah, there's going to be a big dump here of info that is, I think the way I'm envisioning this is that like, they, like after finding all this information, Merrick's talking to Varus about it and like getting him on board. And I don't want, I want to make sure it's clear, Merrick's not trying to deceive Varus about, he's just exaggerating his own bullshit, right? He's just like, you stole this from me. If he were pushed on, he'd be like, okay, I mean, what, here's what happened.

But I take it personally, right? Is his whole point. It's like, it just, I can't, it just, it just, just, it's the wrong thing. They shouldn't have done it. They're just awful. They're the kind of people that just shouldn't be doing things. So they took that sword and they're just awful. They're just, they're just awful people. And I don't think they should be the kind of people to find this amazing thing. I think we should take that away from them. Okay. So just to make sure we're on the same page here, are we talking about beating them there? Sabotage or murder?

When he says murder, he's going to almost feel offended. Murder? Not going to murder them. No, just, they can't be the ones. Okay, fast. We're not going to sabotage it because that's actually pretty fucking cool. But maybe if we're heading in that direction and we have nothing else to do, maybe we could go hop a couple of continents and then find a huge artifact that connects all the continents. It's not a big deal, Varus is what I'm saying. It's just, we got to put our minds to it. Yeah, sure. Okay. Yeah. I think Varus's eyes are just going to kind of glaze over just trying to connect all the dots.

So he's just going to go into like robot mode of just, he's just going to follow Merrick wherever he needs to as he's thinking and trying to connect everything. So with all of that, so it'll be like, okay, got him. I got him on board. This is cool. This is great. And again, Merrick doesn't have any bad intentions here. There's just like excitement and he's just like, Varus will get it. And then I think Merrick will get a couple of drinks, make sure that they're okay drinks. He'll spend a little bit more if he needs to to make sure that they're not grimy drinks.

And then he's gonna, he's gonna go take Varus over to whatever little corner table there is. And he's just going to give him like a two hour random dump of everything about the world that Merrick kind of knows, like stream of consciousnessness around the gates and everything. Basically, this is going to blow his mind. Everything, not just about the gates, but like whatever he can think of. Can I ask a question? Where does everybody else in terms of this, like how is everyone else on board for this plan? Did you did everyone have any objections or questions?

We don't know about this yet. Okay. Yeah, I don't think it's been presented. Yeah, this was this was- I didn't know if within the two hours you were like, oh, hey. So the way I'm seeing it is that we were sort of the vanguard. Everybody's finishing up their dinner. Merrick's too excited about this, tries to get information. He's with Varus. Let's go sit down. I'm going to tell you about the world. And then I assume that people would filter in because Merrick would have all, you know, taken care of getting the room set up or whatever with the inn. Jason, I think I have something that I have to buy now.

I need to buy a little journal. I need to buy something to throw this knowledge in. I mean, it's like a gold. Okay, that's fine. Like, it's not. Yeah, I mean, that's a notebook. I think that's like, hell, in Theria, I think that's such a super common item that if you were to buy the standard like adventures pack, it's got to be in there somewhere, right? Like, think about it. You're out there all day long. You only have is your thoughts and stuff. So that's probably something just to help keep you sane. Okay, that's fine. So then, during all of this dump, he would definitely be taking that out and taking notes as if he's in some sort of class.

Yeah, Merrick's spelling stuff, you know, gates, G-A-T. Get this down. Right. So I don't know. I don't want to speak for anybody else coming in. But if Clara at some time filters in, Merrick would want to stand up and go straight to Clara. Yeah, I don't know what Clara would be doing. So I don't want to say that you're there. She's probably she's not just gonna leave town. I don't know that. You know that pack that we made? I'm out. Yeah, no, I'm sick of you guys. Remember when I was all like half crying like I want a family with my friends. No, just fuck off.

I didn't know it would be this much effort. I didn't mean you guys. I meant like cool people. Yeah, no, she's filtering at some point. I don't know if it's sort of the late night drinks, like the after dinner drinks type moment for everybody. But he's gonna he's gonna say, I have a plan. I have a really, really good idea for all of us. Oh, about the demons? Right. Listen, I think there's a way I have a really, really good idea that can maybe combine all of this a little bit. I think I have a way to get back at the Royals and he's gonna kinda has a little bit of attitude.

Like for some reason, he's felt like Clara is in on this totally. Don't believe that's 100 percent true. But she is like, if we're working with percentages, I'd give you 45 percent. Right. She crossed her arms and like her eyebrow raised a little bit, like interested. Right. He thinks you're probably at like 75 percent interest about the Royals at any given moment. That's fair. You're not. I'm saying he thinks it is. So he's gonna he's gonna just try to get everybody together around the table and and and just sort of quickly. Don't that information out a little bit.

But the way he's going to really put it is, I think we can go do what we need to do. But Uminiro, I don't really want to go to Uminiro, but I'm gonna go to Uminiro because I think we've got stuff to do there. But the great point is it's in the right direction for us to find the Royals. And that means we might be going on a trip and he's just going to he's he's presenting this as though everybody would think this is a great idea already. And then he's just going to sit back and be like, huh? Klara's going to kind of raise her eyebrows and nod like, OK, I see where you're going with this.

I'm on board under one condition. You. OK, she's going to she's going to like sit you down like I if I remember correctly, the lantern has like a little place with chairs in front of a fireplace because that's where Thanatos nearly threw hissy fit one time. You know, the one time that she lost her temper is in the lantern. And she's going to like gesture for Merrick to sit down. What's the girl in Uminiro? Oh, that's hard. Is it just Klara that pulled him over? I think like the way you made it sound like to pitch the idea, you came to Klara first. Yeah, I mean, I think he was trying to get like you interested, like I've got a great idea.

Let's get everybody on board, kind of because he was thinking about like we need a plan. We need to like glue everybody together. And I think I've got it. He wasn't being secretive and it wasn't meant that everybody else can't hear so much as that. He was just trying to get Klara on board with that. Is Klara going to sort of pull him to the side and say like, OK, hang on. What's what's going on with Uminiro person? Is it going to be more open? It's probably a little bit of both. Like she's going to walk him over the couch and whoever comes, comes. So like if Elorath, Evelyn, Varys and Iris followed, you know, it's like that open conversation when you have a bunch of friends walking side by side and sometimes they separate into different conversations.

You know what I mean? Does that make sense? Yeah, we could we could start taking it from the table with the drinks and people start sort of traipsing over to the lounge area. Kind of what we're both saying is we need the other characters to tell us whether or not they're here or not. Yeah. I think that's what we're swirling around. I think you could shave a lot of time off things. I think Elorath would probably be following. Oh, yeah. Unless you guys make it like absolutely clear you want to have like a private conversation, she'd probably just be like, oh, look, those chairs look more comfy than these ones.

All right. Let's let's think of it this way. Right. So we're all at the table or kind of standing around or whatever. And people get up and leave from the fireplace area. Right. It's like, oh, the lounge area is open. Let's all go over that way. Right. Kind of a thing. You know, like the good table opened up. Basically. Yeah. OK, so the answer to the question. Girl in Uminero. I don't remember. Was it mentioned that there was a girl or just that he didn't want to go? He mentioned he had a in brightport, you said very quickly after convincing the werewolf. Also, I have a girlfriend or an ex-girlfriend in Uminero, I think is exactly how you put it.

OK. And then Elorath wanted to ask and Clara was like, don't make him wolf out. That's true. Hold on to that. OK. All right. You know, I told you a long time ago, I didn't tell all of you because I didn't know you, but I don't want to keep secrets. For fuck's sake. He's going to think about this because I don't. Varis doesn't know about Merrick and his. Yeah. He just doesn't know about a lot. Well, that's very little problem. Now I do. So that's true. All right. So I want to think that we just had this conversation where he was like, wait, when did I tell you about that?

And she's like, right after you told your werewolf and Varis is just like, what? That's what I was about to say. Let's do when you when you were running through that earlier, I almost thought that you were saying that in character and I was going to have Varis speak up. Like, wait a minute. What? What? All right. Let's do it. Fine. So, all right. You actually told me that you said girlfriend. But when you told us you were a werewolf, Merrick's going to close his eyes and just. Oh, no, she's that person who outed you without permission. That's fucking rude. No, he's going to hold his hand like, no, no, no, no, it's fine.

This is what I have to do. This is my lot in life. Iris, Varis. I am a werewolf. It's OK. And he's going to point over at Elarath and like, right back me up. Yeah. He's going to say she's still a little iffy like, Mm hmm. I've learned yet that it sounds too confident. Yeah, I've been puffed off. He's like, hmm. It is OK. We've talked about it before and. We haven't had any real incidents. You can trust him. Like, Elarath's going to make face. The multitude of face faces that are going on. Iris is just like, oh, huh? Just nodding. Yeah. There's going to be in the same boat and I pick it up and then he's going to stop because he's still probably finishing, like taking notes of stuff that Merrick was probably talking about too fast.

And so he's going back and filling in the planks. And then at this point, he's going to stop, set down his pen and close his book and look straight in the eye. What are we supposed to do if you do change change? Merrick's going to look at Avalon and say. Show him the knife. When you say that. Almost instinctively, Avalon's going to step in and slowly reach for like his knife. He's going to say. When the time comes, you let me handle that. So is that soothing to everyone? Everything Avalon ever says is soothing. But more importantly, I kind of have an ex-girlfriend, a numero.

Kind of want to bump into her. I'm sure there's ways around it. It didn't go very well. It may have had something to do with the fact that I can change into a werewolf. And I maybe kind of feel bad about it. Clara's face is going to fall a little bit because I think that in the back of her mind, she thought that, like, I think she knew it was a bad breakup, but she didn't realize it had anything to do with that. He's going to have a lot of like a big look of shame, like he's he's trying to play all this off. He tries to be cool about it. But I think he's going to you're going to passively be able to tell that he probably feels some some serious.

She's really bad feelings. Oh, she's going to reach out and put her hand on his shoulder. Did you hurt her? Almost. And he's going to I honestly think he would look like he is holding back himself from like sobbing, being big, not because of just almost hurting her, but just because of what he is and how this is his. This is a big baggage that he's had all his life. And this is probably the closest he came to thinking about what he could have done to somebody like this. There she's going to get up and go to the bar. He's going to order a drink. Clara's going to pull Merrick into like a little half hug.

You know, like the bro hug, the shoulder to shoulder. It's OK. Come on. What happened? I mean, you know, been in a relationship, maybe or maybe not, but, you know, you're not going to get along all the time, right? You're going to have fights. Get out of hand and scream at each other because you're just tired or whatever. And, you know, that kind of stuff doesn't really work well with me. So, yeah, maybe I was a little on edge. Maybe it wasn't the right time. And it just came pretty close. And she kicked me out and she was right. I'm sorry. It's who I am, right?

You know, no, it doesn't seem right. I've never had a girlfriend, but I am shocked. Everyone has shocked faces, right? Definitely. You seem like a ladies man, that's all I'm saying. Hey, my charisma isn't eight anymore, so here's hoping. I would love that for you. That would just. Anyway. I'm just going to say I've never had a girlfriend before, but they should be the ones that could help you calm down if anyone. Maybe she just wasn't right for you. He's he's going to immediately like, whoa, whoa, whoa. He's going to put his hand up. This wasn't her fault. And that and then he's just going to put his hand down and just kind of start clamming up about it, like.

Kind of like he's done, I think, talking about it. He's not mad. Varys will come back over after he gets the drink, hoping that it's not as bad as it was last time. He's going to come back over and hand the drink over to Merrick and then sit down and kind of sense that there's kind of a tense, tenseness in the air. Like, OK, anyways, what's our next move? Where are we going? Clara's going to give that little half hug. She's going to kind of shake him a little bit, but then pull away and immediately. Well, we're going after the royals. We are. And like one big nod.

They're going towards Uminyara as well. I don't see why we can't do both. Right, Merrick? And Merrick's going to look around at everybody. He's shaking it all off and he's like downing whatever drink Varys brought him, which he nods gratefully, thankfully towards Varys about it. And he just says, please? And kind of grins at everybody. Well, I can't say no after that. I have no problem in pursuing them, but we must realize that these aren't gnolls. We shouldn't take them lightly. Make it be quite dangerous. Why do we are we just wanting to go after the sword or like why?

The gates. It's all about the gates. Um. About them gates. No trouble. Can I roll like, OK, do you think Elorath would have been there? Because I don't think she would know about the gates, to be honest. It could be a story that you guys told at some point. Like, OK, I would say honestly, you guys have been traveling together this long. If you haven't heard about this by now, I would be shocked. Where did they come in? Like what? Like she cannot put like tie these pieces together. She's like, wait. So Merrick's going to say, Varys, now's your chance. The best way to learn something is to teach it to somebody else.

OK, so if you guys like kind of outline it in that like that's what their ultimate plan is and all that stuff, then she'll probably just be like, OK, as long as I mean, we did tell Tessia that we were going to help her find some stuff out. But after that, as long as it's not just to get the sword, because like hunting them down just for a weapon doesn't seem right.

Even if they are buttholes. She's going to look at you at Maric sword like what? Maricl shrug. Yeah, she'll she's like, you know what? I feel bad about the earlier werewolf thing. So, OK, you can have this one. OK. Because I don't want to hunt them down just for that. But the gate sound pretty cool. So Laura, if we can if we can go get the information and then we pursued these people and then we open up the gates, then we can use the gates to travel back. How do you open it? Is it like a like like a like a gate office? Oh, I don't know. And he's going to look back towards Maric.

I don't even know what you just said. What did you just say? Oh, I asked if it was like a gate on a fence. Like how do you get on a fence? I thought you said a gate on false and I what she is so so French. We. Well, here's the thing. We're going to take care of what we need to take care of. We're we're going to stick to our word. There's no question. Of course, that matters more than any of this. But here's a chance for us to do something kind of kind of cool, kind of important and would be a really big adventure. And the deal is this. I don't want to hunt the royals down.

They're just a bunch of buttheads when it comes down to it. That's all these people are. They took something that I feel like they shouldn't have taken. And it just really pissed me off. But here's the thing. It opened up a whole door and he's going to kind of like door. But she probably would like or a guy find like give me that one. But it opens up, I don't know, something I know I've been looking for and that's something completely different. We're going to Uminyaro. We need to take care of that. And Tessia is the top. We got to figure out what she needs.

And then I'm not going to lie, you would just feel so good. Just take that away from the royals, no matter what kind of buttheads they are. I mean, they did like set all those things back up for us. So like, I would love to punch them right in their stupid face. You know, I don't want to touch them. I just want to see their faces. That's all. Just throw their note back at them. Steal their sword. Oh, I want them to get to this hub and for us to have a note. Oh, her face is going to be like, yes, you sold her on this. Maric's going to see when he gets the sparks from movies.

Yes. Now you get it. Now you get it. What's the note going to say? Maric's going to clap. Maric's on the back. He's doing a lot of that. This episode of clapping people on the back. He's going to clap. He's going to clap his hand on various his back and he's going to point to his notebook. He's going to say, we got a long time to figure that out. Oh, that's true. Well, no matter what. And I'm sorry, I'm so excited. But we do need to get to Uminero and you're right. And thank you for bringing it back up. We do have a mission. And he's going to look to Iris, too, and be like, and thank you for being part of this.

Glad to be part of this. It sounds like you guys are off to a big adventure. I'm glad to be able to join. So it sounds like you guys know what you want to do. And it sounds like you guys, beyond sleeping tonight, are pretty much going to head out on the road. And I got a couple of questions to ask in regards to that. So their original plan was to take off a bit earlier, but they kind of- OK. Here's how tortoise in the hair these people are. They kind of just dicked around outside of town for an extra day. They left no more than a day and a half ago.

Oh my God. Heading north. So all we have to do is catch them and then we'll beat them. No, Maric's just going to say, look, we know and he's going to point back at like, Drauk or whatever. They're just a day and a half ahead of us. Now, listen, I'm not concerned that we need to race against time to overtake them. They're going to do that themselves. They're going to like get drunk for three days on the way of doing all this stuff. I'm not worried. All we have to do is just keep on going. Do you think that not only could we steal their glory, we could steal their ship?

I- this is for real. We're not going to hurt them. We're not going to steal their stuff. We're only going to take away from them the glory that they think is owed to them. Now, it's not our glory. It's not owed to us. But how good would it feel for them not to have it? That's my only motivation. Well, when you put it that way, it doesn't sound that bad. We could use a little infamy, so to speak. Exactly. It's not about hurting anybody. It's not about- it's just about for once. It's just about winning and kind of with a middle finger. She'll like- if you guys are holding a drink, she'll hold her drink up to you like cheers.

We'll just hire it better. We'll hire it superior. Exactly. So, my question is just for- all right. I know we've been playing in Arc 2 for like, what, like four or five years now at this point? Feels like it. Yeah, yeah. But in game time, when was- like, when the- when the party- the original party arrived at the Pounce and Claw, it picked up Marek, how long ago was that? About a month. I say, I really think that a month of like, Zs and like, going down and traveling and hardship and whatever, and within a few weeks of talking about how we really want to like, make a difference and do something cool, and then finally getting onto the path of doing some of this, that's actually about the right time for that, I think.

Yeah. Not to justify it, but just to say, it's not like you're going to have a big mission like, "Hey, let's go do something really big and huge in three days." Right. And this just feels like it fell- it fell in the right day. It's very organic. I'm so jazzed about this. As soon as you were saying it, like, I was like, "Yes, just justify it. Justify it down the road." Because she's like, "We have a mission!" Oh my God. And again, I think, I think last arc, this would have been a thing that was like, "That would be really cool. Too bad we have homework." And it's, I- this is actually really cool.

Like you guys, there's no Patreon game. There's no one shot. No one's ever set foot on Kodai before. Oh, we are going to- they will soon. Like three days. Also, if we actually get to the bottom of the fucking gates, that's seven years of setups. I'm so glad you did that info dump, Merr. It was so worth it. Like, I'm sitting there making notes of like, I gotta remember to question that. I don't know that. Yeah. Nope. Now you plausibly know, or have at least some knowledge about pretty much everything that we would come across, even if it's like, very cursory.
