Previously for Group B, after meeting two friendly but absent-minded ghosts, the team decided to continue to explore the Blacktip Forest. While searching for something that could harm the Black Hand, or at least weaken her power, they found something much more grim. And that's where we pick up things today.
Let's do that thing where we go over to the table and introduce ourselves. I'm Jason. I'm the Dungeon Master going on the table starting with Ian. Hey, I'm Ian. I play Khaldun Halek, the half-elf sorcerer. And Alex. Hey, I'm Alex and I play Brailin, the halfling bard. And Jamie. Hello, I'm Jamie. I play Tatiana, the human rogue. And Karen. Hey, I'm Karen and I play Callie, the elven druid. And Valerie. Hello, I'm Valerie and I play Elena, the human fighter. I'm packmaster Jameson. Hi, I'm Jameson. I play Larg, the half-orc zealot. You kind of went Scottish there a little bit.
Did I? A little bit zealot. Stay out of my swamp! If I could sustain a Scottish accent, I'd be a Scottish accent. Hey, this is our swamp, eh? I'd rather be playing a dwarf the whole time. That's if your legs are really fit and you're Scottish. You're squashed. A squash accent. Yeah. Squash. You can just do deadlifts. Yeah. Well, we had a breakthrough last time we played. We played in front of a live crowd, a significantly large live crowd for us, considering we don't do live games. And we learned a lot. But there's a ton more to learn. Essentially, you are in the middle of the Blacktip Forest.
You found these shallowish graves. And it looks like a small family was descended upon and just brutally murdered. But we're going to get into that in just a moment. I will say that our ghostly compatriots have faded into the mist, somewhere along the lines where you're having that vision quest, the magic users. So just kind of probably took their leave, just kind of like, "Okay." And then just faded. And then they might come back one day. We don't know. Ghost or finicky? I don't know. They ghosted us. Okay, get out. [laughter] I'm not ashamed. I'm full of dad jokes today.
So, it's the 28th, and you guys are in the middle of this deep, dark forest. The sun hasn't come up in days. There are obviously apparitions and ghosts. There are some that are friendlier than others. Or at least mean you no harm. And truly something larger is happening here, right? So, what do the magic users relay here? What do they inform the party about? Then I'm going to give you some options. Well, for Braille in, I guess when he snaps out of the vision quest that everyone's having, he looks around to see if he's the only one who had it or not. So, he's going to look around first and just look at everyone's faces very questioning.
Yeah, I think Larg would look to Braille in first because I think his first assumption would be that it would be like that flash was something to do with their specific nature. So, he would kind of look at him and just kind of blink and be like, "Uh, do you see that?" Braille will look at him raising an eyebrow. "Depends. What did you see?" He'll point to the hole that's open and be like, "Well, that was her, right?" He'll nod, "Yeah, okay. Oh, man. I thought it was just me." And he goes up to him and pats him on the thigh because I'm not that tall. "Whew.
Okay, so it was a dead guy thing then, yeah?" "I think it's something we all should." "Well, not me. So, that's nice. Thanks, guys." "Like what? Huh?" Yeah, I think Braille would just look at Elena and Tatiana and shrug like, "You didn't really miss much. The black hand and kinda where she came from." And he points to the hole. "Well, okay. Here's the thing. And I would say, with the checks that you gave me last session, anyone with a decent arcana, anybody who can tap into magic, you're feeling like you're getting a portion of the story. Like, there's something blocking you from the rest of it.
Like, there's some sort of spell or tampering that's going on with this area. Like, something stained the area so thoroughly that that history kind of embedded itself in the very ground. Like, you can feel like this is... something really, really nasty happened here. But you're only getting flashes, like you're flipping through a book and you're getting a picture here and there, but it's not everything." "Do we get the feeling that whatever happened here was the nasty thing, or do we get the feeling that something even nastier happened?" "You feel like it started here, right?
Like, obviously people died here, right? But if it has something to do with Lauren now, there's a lot of gaps not being filled in, right?" "But you are also getting the feeling that with a pretty good deal of effort, you could dispel this magic." "I also have a really quick clarifying question. In this vision, did it seem like Lauren, like, what's her relationship to these other people? Was she like a mother, a daughter, a sister, or were we even able to discern?" "Like I said, it was glimpses, right? Like, you're seeing them riding in a car, you're seeing them... but it's so brief.
Like, you're seeing these little slivers, these little fragments of time, like still images, like you're flipping through a picture book. "But you're not getting context for the things that are happening. Like, why did this happen? Who were these people? Like, what was going on? So, but you, with your check, last session, if you were to somehow get rid of this pretty goddamn hefty spell, you would get a shitload of an information dump." "Got it. Okay." "I don't have any cool spells like that. Sorry, guys." "I don't know if any of us do." "Does anyone have Dispel Magic or anything like that?" "Would a Dispel Magic work?
Or is it something beyond that?" "I mean, I'm thinking like it could be like a start maybe, right?" "What your feel? Here, let me put this in context. So, you guys all have magic. Well, not all, but you know what I mean. Like, most of you can tap into it. You understand at least some sliver of how to use it." "Whoever was using this was playing a different sport. Like, their head and shoulders more powerful than you, but this is an older spell, and it's not, it's not indestructible. Like, it can be gotten rid of. It might take some teamwork, and it might take a skill check challenge." "I knew it.
The minute, the minute, the minute you even presented this, I was like, 'Ah, here we go.'" "What about a fly spell? Will that help?" "I mean, if you want to like do tricks in the air to rally your friends, like, yes." "Errupting Earth. Just cover up the whole holes with Erupting Earth." "Will a Thunderclap help in this situation?" "Always, yes." "Lark, stand right here." "I was just gonna say, I guess Cauldron would be the guy to, well either Cauldron or Kali would tell us, right, because you two are technically the most, I would think, tapped into Arcane when compared to Lark and me." "We're like an obscure sport, if we're using the sports metaphor, I feel like." "We can try to dispel it.
I could try to cast it a little stronger. I do, I can dispel magic." "I just don't know if I have enough power to do it all with one spell." "Nah, he said it's gonna be like a team, team or thing, so." "Yeah, but I could cast it at a higher level is what I'm saying." "'Cause dispel magic is at level 3, I could cast it at level 6 is what I'm saying." "Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, no need for all that violence right now." "Yeah, let's give it a try. Something blocks us from being able to sense everything about this place, and he's, Cauldron's like addressing mostly Elena and Tatiana.
I think it's gonna take." "So it sounds like you want to go for it." "Yeah." "What other options do we have?" "Well, okay, I just want to say this, because for every pro there's a potential con, and you guys have done this big friends holding hands, let's try to dispel this magic thing before, and you know that if it goes poorly, bad things happen, so." "Basically, you know that someone did this to obscure view, right? They did it to cover their tracks. Obviously they're going to be like little failsafes in place, just in case someone tries to tamper with it." "Are you saying we're going to have to fight some more demons, Jason?" "I didn't say that at all, I say, oh well, that's what I say." "He doesn't have to, he doesn't have to." "Somebody get the bell, somebody get the bell, let's ring it." "Would the bell help?" "At the same time, just ring the bell." "Hell yeah, let's do it, time to clap the bell." "Alright, so, here's what we're going to need.
I'm going to need two spellcasters, and we're going to need some other people to kind of keep watch, and I'm going to be calling on everybody at some point, so don't you worry." "I volunteer as tribute." "Yeah, obviously you're the first one, for sure, so." "Can't see, but I'm holding." "Get in the circle." "You got the fingers up." "I'm going to bring your stuff to my mouth, because I just want to be there." "Well, who is the, Callie, do you want to be the second one?" "Yeah, I can do it." "But then we lose, like, a healer. I'll cover, I'll be the healer." "You're a healer? Mark can heal?" "Braylon kind of cracks his neck and goes, 'I got it, I can heal, not probably.'" "That's why, I'm a pirate." "Easy, easy." [laughter] "Thank you." "I think it would take both of us to counter, to replace a Callie healer, I feel like." "So who's doing the, uh, Kaladin and Callie are doing the ritual, and we're spotting?" "Team Kal-kal." "So I am going to, when that's decided, I'm going to actually cast, um, protection from evil and good on both of them, to protect them against undead." "Oh, nice." "I don't know why I haven't done this before." [laughter] "To be fair." "It's a level one spell." "I mean, this is super early, we haven't really dealt with undead, we've dealt with, like, fiends and literally everything else but undead, it's been a while, I think the, the flesh guys were the only undead." "And you know what?" "I don't even know if that's real." "I hear your complaint, Alex, I am noting it, and I will take care of it." "Yeah, more undead." "Got it." "Yeah, Dracolytus, every..." "Drakolytus." "Is this, um, the same day as we had that previous fight?" "Uh, no, no, I don't believe it is." "We fought the 27th." "Okay, I just, because I have a couple of spell slots checked off, so I wanted to know if I had this back or not." "You know what, have a long rest." "Okay." "How about we do that, have a little long rest there, bye." "There's also a question too if we, if our inspiration carried over, I think a few of us had inspiration, or do we lose that?" "You don't still have it, why would you lose it?" "Okay, I don't know, because it's like, Ragh rules, it goes away in the game, yeah, like from game to game I think." "Oh, that's stupid, no." "I did burn, I did burn an Invisibility I think, when we first got here, oh was that, no, it might have been the first day." "Yeah, yeah, you're fine." "When we met the, yeah, when we met the ghosties, you did it." "Yeah, you met the Yemblid, Thoril, you guys, yeah, you're fine though, so." "Mm-hmm." "Yeah, alright." "So, kneeling down, Kali and Keldon are going to position themselves right in front of these holes." "And this is like the epicenter of where this spell was cast, a lot of magic was cast that day, but you can, like, you can feel it." "Jason, I'm sorry." "Yeah?" "As this dramatic scene unfolds, Brelin slides over to them as they're kneeling down, puts his hands on both their shoulders, and he's like, 'Guys, you got this, you're the best people for the job.' "And he's going to give them both Bardic Inspiration." "Excellent." "And he goes, 'Carry on.' And then he walks backwards." "He moonwalks back to where he was." "I take Kali's hand, and with all this magic swirling around us, now we've got, like, magic from almost all schools here." "Mm-hmm." "And I just look her in the eye and say, 'I've never done this before, but I will be gentle.
Are you ready?'" "Oh my god." "So, here's what we're going to do." "I'm going to call on you, one by one, to give me an Arcana check. And that's going to kick us off, and we're going to see how things go from there, okay?" "So, Kali, would you kick us off?" "Oh god, guys." "Sure." "Six." "Yes." "Hey, what's that Bardic Inspiration do?" "Well, I'm glad you asked, because I am a higher level, and now you get a D10." "A D10? I'm gonna roll that." "Holy shit." "Dang. Okay." "12." "Well, 12 is pretty good." "That's pretty good. Kaladin, could you do me a favor?
Give me an Arcana check." "Oh my god, if we get a-" "If you roll a six, we're doomed." "Yeah, I know. I was like, if we get a third six, we hear the doom soundtrack come up." [Singing] "Oh shit." "Well, my friend, I'm gonna also use that Bardic Inspiration." "Yeah, that was 10, everybody at home." "That was immediately useful." "Yeah, shit." "Oh, sorry, I rolled it twice." "Whoa, wait, we'll use the 10." "Take the personal, take the personal." "Yeah." "Right." "20. So, okay. Okay, that's not as low as it could have been. That's good. Bardic Inspiration helped a lot." "Is that something they could do every round now?" "No, I wish." "Okay, I thought.
I was like, is this just like, oh, it's like a junior inspiration." "Yeah, Brelin sees them use it immediately. He just feels it and he's like, 'Oh, fuck.'" "So, both Calvin and Callie's eyes are going to glaze over white." "And they are essentially going to be doing battle with this spell." "So what they're going to be attempting to do is, working in tandem, gradually build up 150 Arcana points." "Hmm." "Here's the thing. The spell knows that you're trying to dispel it. It is naturally going to combat you." "So while you guys are leaning, you're surrounded by all this fog and mist.
It's really dense." "And Tatyana, Elena, Brelin, Lark, you're going to see these reddish tendrils kind of spread out from just in front of these holes." "Like, it's like the air is stained with this magic, and what Calvin and Callie are doing is trying to get that out of there." "So, starting on their next round, every time you roll an Arcana check, you will be doing damage, essentially, to this spell." "The higher you roll, the more damage you do. Until that time, the rest of the group is going to have to deal with this spell trying to combat you." "And that's going to take the form of some combat." "In the mist, you're going to see almost like a lamp light light up. And it's probably 25 or 30 feet from you, and you'd have to squint to make it out." "But gradually this lamp light is going to get brighter and brighter.
And you can see that it's an open flame at this point, but it's at eye level." "Do you know what a terrag demon is?" "I do because I saw the pictures." "Oh, good, good, good. Explain it to everyone else." "I remember reading about it five years ago." "Is this the big shell one? The armored one?" "Yeah." "Well, I think you should explain it because you created it." "Is this the one that comes to you in the middle of the road and wants you to do a riddle?" "No, that's a Rumpelstiltskin." "This one that only attacks bards, isn't there?" "Yes, you are a Rumpel." "Oh, this cannot be the one.
Oh my god, what?" "Yeah, it really hates bards. Just really, um, not at all." "It's the bard fucker." "It's the bard fucker." "Wait, I'm not making that up though, right?" "No, there's kind of a joke line in the book about, like, there's a travel die thing. So here's what we're gonna do is..." "Let's get you guys a map. Let's do that. How about that?" "World record timing for pulling out the map." "There's no time." "Are we, are Callie and Kaldin, like, linked in any way? Or are we just, like, could we possibly share memories or feelings?" "Eventually.
Like, this is the beginning and as you guys kind of break through, like, oh, you got it down by a third, you got it down, you'll be able to kind of communicate with each other and stuff too." "That's cool." "Very cool." "My aircona is not good, guys. I don't know why I volunteered." "Because you're, you're a hero, and that's a hero." "Can I get, like, advantage or, like, a bonus if I burn spell slots?" "Oh, what's up? Let's come to that when we cross it, yeah." "Because I do actually have the spell to spell magic, so..." "I like that Moxie. I like that outside the box thinking is what I like." "Sounds like a caring birdie." "I was just about to say, I feel like Jason's gonna offer you a deal now, can't he?" "It's just funny, because I have a higher arcana than Calli." "Everybody has a higher arcana." "Well, aren't you magic?" "But, you know what, though?
Calli can help Kaldin, because they're together, so if he's unknown..." "This was a great decision. You can do this." "Elena, you should always, if any time these situations happen, you're always out here with us." "That's true." "You're not meditating, you're not sitting down." "We don't bench the blender." "And here's the thing, I would, I like a maverick spellcaster with very little arcana." "I don't want one of those fancy mages who went to school for it." "Like, I want somebody who's got moxie, and I like to cut at their jib." "Someone who rolls under ten, that's what you want, right?" "Is that what you think?" "Ooh, next time I need an ability score improvement, I'm gonna burn some into intelligence." "You don't know what he looks like." "We haven't fought those other demons?" "No, this is our first time for us, I think." "This is new? Okay." "He's a big nasty.
So the terra demon is essentially this amalgamation of rock and steel." "It's just this animated shell, and inside is this furnace heat that courses through its entire body." "So it will light up and burn off some of this mist. Do me a favor, roll the mission." "What were you gonna say, Belle?" "I just want to ruin this forever for all of you, and tell you what this reminds me of." "Okay." "Oh, good. So I saw this. Oh, even better." "This reminds me of the lava monster from Spy Kids 3D Game Over, a very good movie, let me tell you." "It is. I've seen it." "This is the lava monster from Spy Kids 3D Game Over." "Is that the one with Sylvester Stallone?" "Yeah, isn't it?" "Yes." "Can I tell you, that's the first 3D movie I saw in theaters." "I'm sorry." "Yeah, not a great one." "I think Sharkboy and Lavagirl came out before that." "Oh, never mind.
They're not. That was that one." "Dream, dream, dream." "Yeah, dude." "Okay. Okay. So at the end of each round, we'll be looking to Callie and Kaladin, and every round, I have a bar for them to hit." "And if they don't meet that, we're gonna toss in another little nasty." "As long as they continue to meet their quota for each round, everything will be great." "What are you, an Amazon warehouse?" "A resource simulator." "Am I allowed to go to the bathroom at any point?" "I mean, it'll take it out of your pay, but yeah, you're allowed." "Oh, come on." "Are Callie and Kaladin not on the initiative track?" "They don't need to be." "Are they on the field?" "Oh, yeah.
Here, we'll do this. Here, here, here, here." "We just have a Kaladin over here." "But what if we all die, and then everyone starts attacking Kaladin and Callie?" "Well, they're not gonna make it long." "Yeah, they're dead." "I only have 69 hit points." "Nice." "Yeah, I would say." "I never want to get any more hit points. I just want to be right here." "And it's even better because it happened naturally." "So, there they are. Don't let them get hit." "So, they're behind you. So, you're the front line. Are we ready?" "I'm actually more positioned to be super wrong, but not much we can do there." "Tatiana, you're opening us up." "Am I?" "You are." "Well, then, I suppose... well, uh...
Okay, um, I think as this demon, like, emerges from this hole, and Tatiana sort of realizes the gravity of what they've gotten themselves into, thinking that this was maybe gonna be a little easier, 'cause, you know, we're due, Tatiana is just going to sort of, like, say to herself, "Holy shit." And is going to grab her shortbow and try and hit this thing. "Let's do it. Oh, 25 will hit. Yeah, that's a good start." "9 damage to the door." "Oh my gosh, you guys, though, you guys, there's no resistance." "There's no resistance!" "Clean hit, clean hit." "I'm so happy." "Wait, did you get sneak attack? 'Cause it's the first..." "Only if... do I?
I thought it was only if they were engaged with another person." "That's... yeah, sorry, you... yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah." "Yeah. But next round, if somebody else hits it, yes, I will have sneak attack." "But the point is, you're back in the game. Like, full damage to Tatiana." "I... I'm... you just made my day." "So you don't want magic weapon buffs?" "I mean, I'm not going to turn anything down." "But let's see how everybody else does. That's my turn." "Bralin!" "Okay, so Bralin sees it get hit, and he's like, 'Yes!' And he's gonna pull his loot out and begin strumming the tune of Bane." "If it's within range, at least.
Let's see, 5, 10, 15... Yeah, he's totally in range, so I need him to make a Charisma saving throw, please." "Uh-oh." "Uh, here we go." "And what's my DC?" "10?" "That's a fail. I know that's a fail." "Damn, he's not very charismatic." "Negative 2." "Let me cast Bane on him." "So I can just put the effect on him, right?" "Yeah, do it." "Okay, there you go." "Sweet." "Uh, and that was my action." "Can I give someone Bark Inspiration as a bonus action?" "Let me see... Yeah, I can." "Within 60 feet of me, I will look to Elena." "And I'm gonna say, 'All right, I saw the note for you.
Go ahead.' "And just, like, smile and tilt my head towards the monster's direction." "You have a d10 to use at your discretion." "And... Hold on, I'm gonna get the hell out of here." "I'm gonna move back there next to the allies casting the spell." "Oh boy, I think the Turreg would be... "Well, I think he'd be miffed at the person who fired an arrow. "So let's start by... "Moving up to Tatyana." "It was a friendship arrow, first of all." "So, uh... He has a multi-attack." "And he's gonna slam... He's gonna try and slam you twice." "So... "Slam number one...
Oh, what? 14... Oh, negative 3! That saved you!" "Hoo hoo hoo." "You're welcome!" "Oh, well. Let's try it one more time." "10 is gonna miss." "Negative 4. Jesus!" "Thank you, Braylin." "Good news is this is not concentration, guys. So I can get hit." "Noted." "You know what I'm saying? Like, don't do it on purpose." "I mean, all hits from monsters are pretty purposeful, like... "Elena, you're up." "Okay, so the first thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna move over to the Turag." "I have a really, really, really stupid question." "Sure." "Did you say that this demon was, like, holding a lantern or something?" "No, no, it acted like a lantern, because its face is holding a lantern." "Ohhh, okay.
So he's not holding anything?" "No." "One of these days I'll be able to use this feat. Okay." "Okay, I'm just gonna hit him regularly, and we'll just see what happens." "Am I drunk? Like, am I okay?" "Regular larn away?" "Regularly?" "It's just a mild stroke." "Cool!" "That's... Okay, you rolled a 2, but you have a +8. 10. That's gonna miss." "Okay... I... Let's use Spardic Inspiration?" "Okay." "That's a, what, a d10?" "D10." "4, 6, 8, 10. Okay." "17 will hit." "Oh, okay, great. Wonderful. Okay, damage." "I will get to roll that. Reroll that, though." "Ah, god damn it.
Okay." "Hold on. Let me do math." "You're fine, god." "Oh, that's way better! 10!" "Cool." "And then I'm going to attack again, because I have... I get two attacks." "Oh my god. That's another 10." "Okay. This time, I'm going to use Precision Attack, and I can add a Superiority die to my roll." "What's that, a d8? A d10 now?" "It's a d10." "Nice. Oh, shit. Okay, you don't need Inspiration ever. What the hell?" "Oh, well, don't speak so soon. That's a 2. So, 14... 12. Sorry, that's gonna miss." "Okay. I don't know if I should keep going, because I feel like the best technique/tactic is..." "Am I getting a +2?
Is this considered flanking or something?" "Well, you are standing... Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because, I mean, even then, you still miss." "Okay, just... But now everybody knows." "Yeah, no, because Tatiana is technically next to it, because he's a big'un. So, yeah." "Okay, I'm going to do an Action Surge." "Okay." "And that will give me two more attacks, so... Let's try that." "16's gonna miss." "Well, fuck me." "Well, that's +2 with..." "Oh, yeah, +2." "That'll hit, yes, you're right. Yes, yes, yes." "Ooh! Okay." "10 damage to the Tur-rag." "Okay, and then we're gonna attack again." "Oh my god!" "Oh my god!" "You are literally cursed." "Oh my god.
You know what? Jameson called you the Blender in Curse 2, that's what it is." "It's because you're not calling it, Valerie." "Oh, yeah!" "You gotta call it." "How does... is Bardic Inspiration just like a one-time thing, right?" "Yep." "Yeah, yeah, one-time shot." "Okay. Then I think I'm done for now." "Okay." "Larg!" "So, Larg is going to move here, and he's going to hit his hammer on his shield, and in that, he's going to cast Bless on... ...Bralin, and Tatyana, and Elena, and it's going to look like... that." "Ooh!" "And I hate that that spells a full action, so that's my turn." "Did it get the Tur-rag too?" "I better not have." "No, no, he has Bane.
That's Bane." "Yeah, Bane is on him, Bless is on him." "He's got the opposite of that." "Okay, that brings us to the end of the round, and that means it's time for Calli and Caldin." "So, this round, you guys have to roll a combined 20 or more. That's it." "Oh, that's it?" "That's it!" "So, who wants to go first? You know what? Calli went first last time. I think it's time for... let's do Caldin." "Alright." "Sixteen!" "So, here's the thing. Calli, this is a layup. Why don't you just roll four or more?" "Great! Let's do it!" "Yeah, let's go!" "Nine!" "Thank god!" "Yes!
I knew you got this!" "So, that's 25 so far, guys. You are on your way. Just 125 more." "Oh my god!" "It's getting cold over here. Like, some of that mist is starting to spread out of Caldin into the mist that's already part of this forest." "Tatiana, you are up!" "Okay! Tatiana, I'd like to use my cunning action to just sort of, like, take a quick little step back." "And then I'm gonna do the same thing, and hopefully if I hit this time, I will get sneak attack because I have advantage." "Oh, I do have a... Well, yeah, I do because... Yeah." "Sorry, my brain just went a really weird route to get there." "So, you got a plus two, and then you got...
Yep, so... Holy shit, that's thirty!" "Oh my god!" "That'll hit!" "I think that's the highest I've ever rolled on an attack before!" "Here's some damage, and then I'll get my sneak attack ready." "Nice. Nine damage so far." "Here we go. Here we go." "Woo! Seventeen more damage!" "Nice. Nice, nice, nice." "That's good stuff. Anything else?" "That is all." "Alright, Brailin, you are up!" "Okay, not much I can do. I feel like I've done my... The most important part of my job was Bane, so that's been taken care of." "Uh, Brailin leaves the forest. No, uh..." "I cast Invisibility." "See ya, guys." "Peace, invisible peace." "Yeah, no, I can teleport out of here.
I can go somewhere way far away. I'm a little bothered." "Uh, he's gonna pull out his vicious shortbow after putting his loot back on his back and take a shot at Mr. Terad." "So, let's hope I hit him." "Oh, twenty-one will hit." "Nice." "For a measly five." "Any bad? Five's five, man." "Yeah, so Brailin sees the fruits of his labor and he's like, 'Oh, yeah, that's not great.'" "And he looks at the bow, then looks back at the monster and kind of shrugs. And that's it." "And my turn." "Alright, Turag is up." "Uh, let's do... Hmm, hmm, hmm." "I just saw something.
That's okay. I wasn't paying attention. Technically, I should have had advantage on that saving throw." "But, like, I didn't see that until now, so, nuts." "Here's what we are gonna do." "Turek, demon." "Uh, Turag is gonna target Larg and try to slam. Uh, twenty-five will hit." "Uh, Brailin's gonna use his last Bardic Inspiration to spend Cutting Words." "Uh, I need you to... I'm gonna expend Bardic Inspiration and subtract that from your attack." "Four, six, ten." "Subtract five from that, still gonna hit him, bro." "Twenty." "Yeah, twenty's a lot, yeah." "Well, I tried." "Hey, you know what?
I like your Moxie." "Me too." "So, we're gonna do damage. Hup!" "What was that? Oh, concentration, you're fine. You're concentrating. So, it did thirteen damage, but he also is gonna pop Combustion Touch." "So, Turag may ignite a target when making a slam attack. The target must immediately succeed on a DC thirteen Dexterity saving throw or catch fire." "Oh, good. My best save." "Larg's so dexterous." "In all that armor." "Uh, so, I gotta throw that now?" "Yeah, give me a dex saving throw." "Dex save." "Thirteen or hou--" "Oh, that ain't it." "What is with the twos?" "Yeah, that's a-- okay, so three total.
So, you're gonna take an additional two D ten fire damage and at the beginning of your next turn, until someone takes an action to douse the fire, you're gonna take two D ten at the start of every turn." "Okay, so I take two D ten now?" "No, no, no, at the beginning of your next turn." "At the beginning of your next turn." "Uh, dousing fire, can it be healing stuff or no?" "No, I think it actually has to be like someone's douse--" "Is there water skin?" "Trenching in water or something like that." "Okay." "Yeah, so, yeah, 'cause think of it as like he's immolated, like he is on fire-- like his armor and cloak and shit are on fire." "Question, would lesser restoration work?" "I mean, to heal your burns--" "You touch a creature and can end one condition afflicting it. I feel like on fire is a condition afflicting it." [Laughter] "I mean, paladins make the best firefighters in that case, 'cause like, okay, hold on, I-- you know what, let's look that up. I don't know what the ruling on that would be." "I mean, the examples it gives-- it gives examples, let me go back to it." "Yeah." "And it's fine if that's not the case, but this is what I got.
So I'm asking, 'You touch a creature and can end one condition afflicting it, the condition can be blinded, deafened, paralyzed, poisoned, and other and lesser diseases.'" "I-- I feel like the intent was like you're-- you're-- you're curing them of some ailment, some-- you know, while fire is an ailment of sorts, I don't think that's in your wheelhouse." "Okay, that's fine. Worth a shot, I thought." "So he's got one more slam. Let's try that. Hup!" "Seventeen will miss! Wow, you got a high AC." "So, okay, you're just on fire." "That's fine, I can deal with it." "Elena!
Redemption time, here we go." "Okay, if I wanted to put fire out of Larg, can I just take like my canteen, or do I need more water than that?" "I-- I would say if you just dumped your whole canteen out on Larg, I think that'd be fine." "Okay, is that considered a movement or an action?" "That's your whole action. That's your whole action." "So basically then I wouldn't be able to do anything else on my turn?" "Yeah, it does say very specifically they have to take an action to--" "Okay." "Yeah." "I'd say just go, I'll be alright." "Are you sure? I don't know--" "Just go, go nuts.
I mean, I've got a canteen, I can dump it out on myself, you do more damage." "Okay, well Elena's gonna glance a worried look at you." "He's rolling with it, he's like, 'Ugh!'" "But then she's gonna attack the Turag." "Oh, 30! Much better!" "Fuck yeah, my guy. Okay, damage..." "Uh, 12 damage to the Turag." "And then we're gonna attack him again..." "29 will hit." "Oh, wow. I'm so glad my luck turned around, she says." "Oh, why'd you say that?" "Well, I'm gonna re-roll it." "I know." [Laughter] "That's a 5, everybody at home. That was a 1." "Okay, re-roll it." "It was a 5, because it's actually a 9!" "Yeah, 9 good.
Okay, anything else?" "Um, nah, that'll be it." "Alright, Larg." "Yeah, Larg's gonna roll with it. Larg's gonna stay on fire so he can hit this guy." "So let's just swing. So he's yelling." "I'm not gonna rage, but it looks a lot like I'm raging because I'm literally on fire." [Laughter] "So let me target this guy, and then we're gonna swing the war hammer." "And that's gonna be a 13, plus 8 is 21." "Yeah." "And then, you know what we're gonna do though, we're gonna go ahead and dump a second level spell slot." "So we can get..." [Sigh] "What is it, 3d8 if I do that?
Let me double check." "Divine Smite. Yeah, 3d8. So let me roll those first." "Whew, 17." "Okay, so we're gonna add 17 to this roll." "How's 28 damage?" "Jesus!" "So I'm feeling pretty good about that." [Laughter] "That's a shit ton of damage." "Yeah man, so you're gonna knock his block off here a little bit." "You're gonna just... how are you hitting him with the war hammer?" "Is it uppercuts, swinging side to side, overhead? What are you doing?" "Yeah, so I feel like it's that thing where it hits him, he lights on fire, and just kind of wigs out a little bit." "And goes double overhand, axe handle, even the hand that has the shield in it is also swinging the hammer." "Right." "So he's gonna do that, and seeing that it worked really well, because there's that magical energy detonation whenever he uses Divine Smite, he's gonna do it again, just like he did the first time." "And, uh, no poof." "11's gonna miss." "Okay, but he is going to... hang on one more moment..." "Yeah, but he is going to look to Elena and give that nod, like, alright, this is gonna be okay, as he's on fire." "Kind of a thumbs up." "And yeah, he's gonna do the Terminator thumbs up, and she's gonna get magic weapon on her." "And that's my turn." "There's a lot of buffs flying." "Crazy, she's got like two little pluses on her portrait." "Thank goodness." "So, let's check in with Callie and Kaladin." "Oh, I have a question, sorry, I'm so sorry, you just gave me stuff, but Jamison has to take damage, right?" "Oh, shit, you're right." "Crickets." "I love it." "You're welcome." "Forgot to assign homework." "Yeah, she forgot her homework." "It's the only thing I'm good for." "You're keeping us honest, and that's what's important." "No, that's alright, we don't want a cheap victory, and it's true." "That's true." "So, Callie and Kaladin are gonna open their eyes, not on the field here, but both of them are gonna see each other in this sort of ethereal haze." "You realize you're still working on this spell, but you've kind of been mentally transported somewhere else." "And you're gonna see this dark, grassy field in front of you." "And the grass is a good foot and a half tall, kind of swaying in the breeze, it looks like there's a storm coming in." "And the moonlight is just kind of illuminating this field, and there is one lone, gnarled tree." "It's massive, it must be hundreds of years old." "And it looks like, running up the center of this tree, there's this knotted crevice, like a crack." "And inside, you're going to see this faint, red light, as the tree kind of emits this heartbeat." "I need both of you to do me a favor and give me an Arcana check." "We'll start with Callie.
Oh, we'll start with Kaladin." "I don't." "Twelve?" "Well, I was gonna ask, because I had asked previously about potentially using spell slots." "I'll tell you what, every time you use a spell slot, we'll add a d4 to your roll." "Okay." "Do you want me to start with third level, since Dispel Magic is a third level spell?" "Yeah, you don't have to go any higher than that." "Cool." "Alright, so here's my Arcana." "Oh, sixteen." "Ooh, sixteen." "That's very good." "Then I'm gonna pop that d4 on." "That's a one." "So it's a seventeen, you know?" "Yeah, yeah, yeah." "It's pretty good." "It's pretty good." "You guys are gonna start to attack this tree, like right dead in the center, like trying to pummel through." "And starting next round, I'm gonna ask for two rolls from each one of you." "We're gonna really attack this thing and get going, but meanwhile, in the real world, we're gonna add another monster to the map." "Oof." "Now, Alex, I want you to do me a favor and roll a d4, and that's gonna decide what demon comes out." "Oh no, well, I already know what it is, because no matter what I roll, I have a best friend." "And he's probably showing up right now." "Yes, here we go, ladies and gent-- oh, this is like Running Man." [Laughter] "Oh no, it's a kl- a kl-kor?" "You asked for it!" "I didn't, though, but it's okay." "Boom! One kl-kor added to the field!" "And let's have this, this, uh, this guy, let's, let's have him roll, uh, oh, twenty!" "God, they're so fast!" "God, they're fast, yes!" "Twenty-three!" "In credit, oh my god." "Oh." "Oh, can't wait to see him rekindle his--" "Wait, was that supposed to be in-- oh no, what is it called, initiative?" "Initiative, yes." "That was a dex check, I don't know if that changes." "Initiative is a dex check, yeah, monsters don't have--" "Oh, I'm an idiot, that's okay, I don't know how to play D&D." "No! You wanted to try and save your friend, I--" [laughs] "Let's start the next round, everybody, the kl-kor takes the field!" "Let's see, I think, I think he's gonna take a little run here at Tatiana and use a charging shoulder." "So, let's, let's, here we go." "Hup!
Twenty-three!" "So, he's using charge, so, whoop, that should do everything, yay, it did it! Thirty damage." "I'm gonna use uncanny dodge and only take half." "That makes total sense! Fifteen damage!" [laughter] "Do a backflip, do a barrel roll. Can I get a strength save for you, please?" "A strength save? Oh my gosh." "You're fine, seventeen's great." "The bless, oh my god, the bless." "I know, jeez." "Tatiana, you're a bot." "Oh my gosh, uhhhh, I'm gonna disengage again because, uh, that's what I do." "And I guess I'll shoot this guy now. Little, little butthole." [laughter] "For those of you who haven't seen the art, they look just like buttholes." "Seriously?" "If the butthole had fists that pummeled you into the ground, yes." "It's all buttholes, it's just buttholes." "From toe to tip, it's just buttholes." [laughter] "Truly a demonic presence." "Twenty-seven!
Woo hoo hoo." "Yay!" "Blessed! We are blessed!" "We are blessed!" "I unfortunately won't get my sneak attack. I do not believe he is not engaged with anyone else." "Well, he, you know, moves romantically to Braelyn, but not currently." "Mmm, right, right, right, right. I think that's my turn." "Mmm-hmm." "Yes, that's my turn. I can't do anything else." "Uh, Braelyn, you're up!" "And I wish you would have moved further, but it's okay." "Braelyn, I assume he's gonna hear the clock over before he sees it." "And he just like, he mouths like, 'Oh no.'" "And he peeks over the tree that's in the way, and he sees it just like charge a Tatyana." "He sees her dodge out of the way, shoot an arrow, and he's gonna take the long, twenty-five foot trip around the sun here." "Sneak up behind it." "Oh man, look how brave you are." "And he's gonna say, 'Get away from it, back up!' to Tatyana, and the thing is gonna hear him." "And I'm going to cast, I haven't got to do this yet, but I'll do it now, Warding Wind." "Oh." "So Braelyn pulls out his loot, begins playing a song very rar--" "Like, his fingers move faster than they should." "And a strong wind is gonna blow around me in a ten foot radius, and it stays centered on me." "The spell, it lasts for as long as a spell." "And what am I gonna do here?" "Defence of the creature doesn't matter, he doesn't, this motherfucker don't have ears." "But, ten feet around me is difficult terrain for the creature, or for everyone other than me." "So, let me see." "So it'll be hard to get to me, but it'll be hard for it to get away from me also." "Hmm, okay." "And..." "The attack rolls of ranged weapon attacks have disadvantage." "And..." "Typical wind stuff." "Yeah, yeah, so it's just gonna be harder for it to move." "Okay." "And that was my regular action." "Uh-huh." "And for my bonus action..." "Oh, I can't because it's a level one spell.
I didn't think this through all the way." [Laughter] "But it looks great." "Yeah, but what I will do is..." "I think I can cast my maneuver that I learned from Elena." "Mm-hmm." "So, I'm going to use Rally." "I will give Tatyana temporary HP." "Equal to my superiority dice, which is 1d6 because I'm not a real fighter. I'm a fake." "Plus..." "Decks? Or just 1d6, so..." "You get one HP." "One shield." "You get one shield." "And it's like me mimicking Elena's commanding voice." "Just like, 'Stand tall, don't back up!' But it's coming out as Elena as if she would say it, but it's coming out of my mouth." "Oh, that's cool." "And then I'm just standing in front of this Kla'kora and I said, 'Now it knows I'm there and it's got the winds moving around us.'" "And I know it's going to hit me.'" "And Braille is just kind of like wincing, waiting for the pain.
He's like, 'Ah, this was a bad move and that's going to be my turn.'" "We don't know that yet." [Laughter] "Might be, but we'll see though. Here we go." "Turreg Demon is up!" "Oh, let me see if this recharged." "It did! Yay! He's going to swing at Elena!" "Uh, that's going to have disadvantage, please." "What?" [Laughter] "What?" [Laughter] "Uh, so... wait. Hold on. There we go. Uh, so disadvantage. Slam!" "Oh, seventeen will still hit. Jesus, even with disadvantage and pain!" "What the hell?" "He wanted it. That's the thing. So he's going to use Combustion Touch again, because that recharged." "So, let's do our regular damage, which is twenty to Elena." "Can I get a Dexterity save from you?" "Yeah, yeah, yeah." "That's a nine." "Okay, but, but, I do have... wait, what is this Dex save for?
Does it say if I get on fire?" "Yes, yeah." "Okay, I have a thing called Indomitable, where if I fail a saving throw, I can re-roll it." "Um, before you do that, would a... ah shit, I guess an eleven probably wouldn't do it either, huh?" "No." "Okay, because that's the bonus she gets for my Aura of Protection." "I think I also... oh no, that bonus was on it. Okay." "So, never mind, I guess you have to do Indomitable. Or be on fire." "Yeah, those are your... yeah." "Come on in. The fire's fine." "Okay, so I'll roll it again then. Let's see." "You got this.
Oh, much better! Nineteen! You're now on fire." "Perfect. Sorry, Larg." "I'm fire buddies." "You can stay in your fire party by yourself." "Well, he's gonna try and slam again. Elena, is this one? You can only interrupt the one, right?" "I can only do it once." "Ah, okay, so let's see if he's got to... no, seven! That's got a total whiff." "Okay, so then I'm gonna use your posts." "Let's do it." "Make a boo-boo. If I hit, then I add to the damage. Okay, so let me just see if I hit first." "Come on." "Jesus! You rolled a two. Got a plus four from Bless. And your regular plus nine.
That's fifteen. Still gonna miss." "Why is it a plus nine? Oh, because I get a plus one also from Larg. Oh, do I have a plus two because Larg's there and that's blanking or something?" "Well, yes, you do get a plus two. Yeah, that'll hit." "Yay!" "Oh my god! Should I go through the checklist?" "I'm gonna have to go through it." "Uh, okay, then I superiority die, which is now a D10. Four, six, eight, ten." "Five!" "Beautiful. So we'll add that to my damage." "Max damage, eighteen." "I totally picture that like Elena like doing a riposte and stab and it barely goes in and then she's just like pushing the sword." "Just a little bit, like an inch more.
Got 'em." "Come on, fuck you!" "No, I hit you." "Stop resisting!" "Uh, Elena, now it's your turn." "Okay, I used that, used that. Okay, let us hit and see what happens. Uh, ooh, ooh, uh, no, let me just, I gotta try and hit first and then we'll see." "Okay." "Oh no!" "Oh no, oh no, oh no, that is full of evil." "You're hubris, you're hubris." "Exposed flesh. The next bit of damage done to you will be done to you every round until you are healed." "You're on fire." "Imagine if that's that twenty." "It's a different fire." "Okay, I have a question." "Uh huh." "If I were to use my inspiration, would that re-roll everything?" "Yeah." "Oh man, I'm really using everything on this first creature, huh?" "Yeah, to be fair, it's a big boy, to be fair." "It's a big boy!" "Fuck." "I mean, but I can take damage, like I feel like I shouldn't, okay, I'm not gonna, I'm gonna keep my inspiration, uh, for now, and that was a miss, fumble, okay." "So, I just, I'm gonna get sliced up next time I get hurt." "I mean, only if you get hurt, that's the thing, I'm gonna hit you again first." "Oh yeah, how long does that last, like, is it like, two years later?" "For the rest of the fight." "No, no, no, just for the rest of the fight." "If she stubs her toe, her toe falls off." "Okay, that's the last fight." "I thought it wasn't until you're healed." "Until you're, yeah, yeah, yeah." "All this is just 'til the end of the fight, like." "Got it, okay, well that one missed, but I'm gonna attack again." "Uh, 29's way better, that'll hit." "Here we go, that's a lot better." "Then I'm gonna, yeah, fuck it, you know, just fuck it." "I'm gonna use Distracting Strike." "Okay." "And, uh, I get to add Superiority Die to my damage roll, and the next attack roll against it by someone other than me has advantage." "Um, so, Superiority Die first." "Okay, that's an 8." "Beautiful, so we're gonna add a plus 8 to my damage." "16, 16 damage." "Okay, and then, uh, Larg, I hope you hit it next turn, 'cause you got advantage." "I have advantage?" "Yes." "No, you got a plus 2." "No, you have advantage." "'Cause you're Distracting Strike." "Oh, you're Distracting Strike." "Oh, sorry, sorry." "You'd think if I just did." "Sorry!" "Okay, in that case, I'm gonna hit the guy with my hammer." "I love it." "And here it goes. 16, oh, that's what I did, hang on, I need advantage, let me do it again." "Okay." "Um, even worse." [Laughter] "But do I still get the plus 2 for being next to Elena, or is that..." "Uh, you do get a plus 2, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, so, yes." "So that's a hit." "That's a hit, so there, he took a hit." "Alright, um, we're gonna burn a level 2 spell slot, we know how this goes, I'm gonna throw these." "But I do love how it goes." [Laughter] "Oh my gosh." "So that'll be a plus 13 to this, and he's gonna explode." "That's dead, it's dead, he's dead." "Yeah, so he crams the hammer in its mouth and the thing explodes." [Laughter] "Twist it, okay." "Yeah?" "Fucking beautiful." "Um, as a bonus action, can I put myself out?" "It's gotta be a whole action." "That's fine, you know what, I'm gonna just march on fucking fire up to this guy." [Laughter] "You take another 7." "And I'm gonna look at Tatiana and go, 'It's really hot in here.'" [Laughter] "Although, I am casting 20 mile an hour winds." "That's true, if I walk into the wind, what happens?" "Oh no, wildfire." [Laughter] "The whole place goes up." "Then that bush catches on fire, then that, no, I, uh..." "It does say flames get extinguished." "Yeah, fuck it, yeah, 20 mile an hour wind is a lot." "Let's pretend I did that on purpose, Log had no idea." "That's so cool." "That's in the air, that's in the air, torch sized." "But he's still gonna say that to Tatiana as he walks by, 'It's really hot out here.'" "And as the fire gets blown out." "Do you want it to be specific?" "It's too small, it might be too big, 'cause it says torch sized fires." "Oh, well..." "If I continue to stand in it, will it continue to go out?" "Or maybe the oxygen will fuel it." "I'm gonna say it's blown out, let's just move on." "I mean, I don't care, I'm not trying to cheese it." "No, that's not how I took it." "I think 20 mile an hour wind would blow out more than a torch." "I feel like I'd blow out almost a campfire, right?" "Like, I mean, it depends, but yeah, you're not that on fire." "Like, yeah, you were just a little on fire." "Just a little on fire, okay." "Okay." "To be fair though, did I take that damage at the start of my turn?" "Should I still take the damage?" "You did, already done, yeah." "Already done, already done?" "I did it." "Yeah, you rolled it already." "Oh, you did, okay." "Alright, I didn't even feel it, my turn's over." "Kali and Kaladin." "Let's do something fun here." "So we've like walked up to this tree, right?" "And seen this like beating glowing red light." "Yep." "And we're just like, we're just like shooting into it." "Yeah, you can feel that like that's like a manifestation of this spell." "And both of you can now speak to each other, you can communicate, you can, yeah." "Can you hear me, Kali?" "Yes, this is very weird." "I think this is it.
You can let go of my hand now." "Oh, sorry, and like I think she was probably like death gripping it, like what is happening?" "Flex her hand a little bit, ooh sorry." "Was it his regular hand or skeleton hand?" "I don't know." "It'd be his regular hand." "Regular hand? Okay." "What do you think this is?" "Trees are more your wheelhouse." "Is this something of the forest or is this something more demonic?" "I'm not sure, maybe a little of both?" "God damn it, Jamison." [Laughter] "If a door magically appears in this fucking tree, I'll quit, is all I'm saying." [Laughter] "Okay, sorry." "I feel like too, like there's like a vague sense of what's going on outside, like a dull sort of like, you know, like sound." "Like we don't exactly know what's going on, but we can feel and there's like those like bassy sounds of like combat bleeding through here." "Like a tunnel vision kind of thing?" "Kind of, yeah, like everything's got a low pass kind of filter on it and Cauldin's just like looking around and he's like, 'Let's do this quick.'" "We don't want them up there on their own, we've got to do this as quick as we can." "I agree." "Do you want to hold my hand again?" "A little bit, yeah." "He holds his hand out." "And she'll grab right on, probably with the same amount of strength as before." "And then we like walk right towards this thing and do what we must." "Cauldin, can I get an arcana check please?" "Ab-a-so-lutely, please be high, please be high, please be high." "Oh!" "22! Can I get one more from you please?" "One more from me?" "Yeah, you're both rolling twice." "Oh, oh, that's right, oh okay." "Okay." "One.
So that's a total of nine." "Can I use my inspiration?" "You can." "Would that be allowed? Okay." "Yeah, go ahead." "Thank you so much." "No problem. Poppin' inspiration, re-rolling, new shooter, oh my god!" "Are you kidding me?" "That's another one." "It was meant to be." "Yeah, that's, can't cheat fate." "Great." "Oh man, you are up to 85. You're trying to reach 150. Callie, take us home! No wait, just try to..." "It's all rude." "Alright, here's that." "Seven." "I am gonna add a d4." "So nine." "That's nine." "And then you need a second one, yes?" "Yep." [hums] "12. 12.
You guys are up to 106. 106!" "This tree is going to crack open just a bit, and this red bolt is going to fly in your direction, but past you and kind of scatter outward?" "And what that is, is this spell fighting back, and it's got one last trick up its sleeve." "Oh no..." "Do we get any, like, does Cauldron get any sense of familiarity from this at all?" "Or is this, yeah from this spell..." "I wouldn't say so." "Who may have cast it, like in Inkling?" "Oh, no, no, no, I wouldn't say not yet, but..." "Got it." "You might, later on." [sighs] "Meanwhile..." "Back in the real world..." "Raelyn's going to hear a noise." "This wet, clurpy, sloshing noise." "As something stomps up behind him in the grass." "And it's like it came out of nowhere." "Do you know what a Devourer is?" "No." "Oh." "A Devourer is kind of this walking manifestation of gluttony and death." "And what it does is, it devours souls." "And I'm going to just go ahead and add it to the initiative with a six." "Ladies and gentlemen, that is a good low roll." "But still good enough to put it like halfway into the initiative." "So we'll worry about that in just a moment." "First, top of the order with the Clicquor." "I think..." "Hmm." "Oh, wow, wait a minute, Raelyn would have advantage on him." "Yeah, let's do that." "Clubbing Claws with advantage." "Twenty!" "That's gonna hit, for sure." "Twenty-one damage." "Oh, god!" "Tatiana, your turn." "So this giant lumbering thing is going to join you in this." "Like, here, let me share something with you." "That'll give you a better idea of what you're against." "Oh my gosh, he's a little friend!" "There's a little me in there, an undead guy in there already." "Wait, so he's huge?" "Yes, he's big." "He big boy." "He big." "Big baby Yoda." "Yeah." "Excellent way to describe it, yes, that is exactly..." "Is that Kaldin, though?" "Striking down Kaldin." "He looks a little bit like him, yeah." "Oh, golly." "He's so cute." "Oh, golly." "I want him as a pet." "Maybe we can... we'll capture him and just put a little chain around." "Yeah, like he can carry me around." "There you go." "I think Tatiana is going to exasperatedly sigh and yell to her comrades..." "You've gotta be kidding me!" "As this giant devourer sort of appears and is gonna try to shoot it." "Shoot-ah!" "Have we tasted almost every flavor of demon?" "Oh, there's so many more!" "Oh, good." "We've dipped into, I think, at least ten flavors of these fuckers." "Oh, yeah, dude, there's a whole world beyond yours that's just full of horrors." "I feel like it's like Cold Stone Creamery, you know?" "The Cold Stone Creamery of demons, there's so many..." "There's mix-ins!" "They sing if you tip them, though, that's cool." "But you don't want to hear the song." "Well, I'm gonna eat your face, just give me your face." "31 will hit!" "So here's some demeuj, and then I am gonna get to do my sneak attack because Braille is right there." "What, what?" "Yep, that's all part of the plan." "Yeah, baby!" "This was premeditated, of course." "Holy shit, 21 damage!" "Yes!" "Suck that, you will devour you." "Wow, there's no need for that kind of language, wow." "And yeah, I believe that is all I can do." "Can I get a tatiana 'Suck That' T-shirt?" "Suck that!" "Only with the ball gags in it." "Oh my gosh, please, I love that." "Our new fashion line is coming this summer, everybody, get ready." "Braillem!" "I am so confused at what to do." "You gotta get the fuck out of there, bra." "I should, but I could thunderclap or not, because it doesn't work on, it's not gonna work on the clique core." "It's not gonna do anything." "Oh yeah, at least not." "It's erupting earth, however." "Can you try to hear that?" "Can you disengage at all?" "I could disengage, but that's kinda weird." "Yeah." "Uh, yeah, you know what, it's time for the big boys who are back here to handle this problem, so..." "I'm going to drop Warding Wind as a free action." "And I'm going to disengage as my action action." "So, I have 10, 15, 20." "And as my bonus action, I'm going to use Healing Word..." "Who got hurt besides me?" "I think you're the most hurt." "Okay, then I guess..." "I'll just Cure Word, I can't Cure Word, I'll just Healing Word myself." "Because it's a bonus action to cast, I think, right?" "Yes." "And myself..." "You got it, it's okay little guy." "Like, as I'm talking to myself." "And heal." "Oh, five is okay." "Five's not bad!" "So you see some magic come out of my hands as he talks to himself." "And he's behind Larg, and he'll just tap Larg on the back, 'Go get 'em big guy!'" "That's the end of my turn." "Bunch of ashes come up." "Yeah." "Soot." "Yeah." "Oh boy." "Are you guys ready?" "I suppose, I just..." "Is he going to go away?" "Oh no, not, not, no, no." "So, this thing's about eight feet tall, you can see it's ribcage is this sort of skin prison for these clients." "Do you remember Scrooged, the movie, like that?" "Like Death, like that, that, that, think that." "So, The Devourer's going to..." "I was just going to say there were like five people that got that reference." "Yeah, I know, that's okay, that's okay." "It's a great movie, it's my holiday favorite." "It is going to stomp forward." "And it is going to..." "Yeah, it's going to hit Kaladin." "Shit." "So." "It has, oh boy, this is fucking nasty, get ready!" "Hup!" "Twenty-two." "Would I have, I'm guessing no, but would I have the wherewithal to cast any spells?" "No, you're completely helpless right now." "That's what I figured." "Yeah, it's up to your crew." "Thirty-two damage." "Oofy doofy!" "What are you rocking, seventy-eight? Okay, cool, that's thirty-two damage, boom." "That's half a Kaladin right there." "Oh, that's not great." "The Devourer is then going to turn to Tatyana." "And try to claw." "That's going to have disadvantage, please." "Oh, okay." "Didn't matter." "Oh my god, he's rolling with a plus ten." "Nineteen." "Thirty damage to Tatyana." "I'm going to use my Uncanny Dodge again, and retake." "Good, fifteen." "Nice." "That's smart, you're smart. Now, here's the nasty part." "Oh no." "He's going to pop something called Soulrend." "Give me a moment." "That sounds fun, guys." "Sorry, Angie." "Oh, that got me." "That tickled Jason, yay." "Maybe he'll have mercy." "Oh boy, oh boy." "Oh my god." "That's a twenty foot radius." "All of you." "All of you." "Give me a Constitution save." "At least some of us are blessed, so that's cool." "Hey, this doesn't happen to be a charm, does it?" "I don't think I would consider this a charm." "Everybody within ten feet of me gets a plus two also." "Thirteen then." "Okay." "Oh sorry, I haven't rolled yet.
You said Khan, right?" "Yes." "Khan save? Okay." "Ooh, hey, good good good." "Who?" "Okay." "Twenty foot radius is okay." "Ooh, baby." "So everyone who didn't roll eighteen or higher." "Mm-hmm." "Let's see, that's Larg, Cali, Brailam." "Yeah." "You're going to take forty damage." "Oh, I'm dead, I think?" "Not outright though, right?" "No, no, just at zero. I'm taking a negative three, essentially." "Okay, everybody who rolled eighteen or higher, you're only taking twenty damage." "Oh." "So, let's, uh, hold on a second, let's start at the top, work our way down." "Tatyana, uh, twenty damage.
Can't dodge this one, sadly, but that's okay." "You're not outright, uh, forty, ten, yeah, so that will knock Brailam out." "Can we have inspiration left?" "I don't have any left. I used my last game, I think, on the Theriothound." "I mean, I can, well, there is a precedent when we fought the demon and used the bell that I could give my inspiration to somebody, though, right?" "I'm going to say inspiration is totally transferrable." "I don't think it would help. I think it's better if you guys continue, because someone can just pop me back up, and then, uh, I'll do what I do." "You know, I always forget that you're, like, a half-person, so you're right, okay." "I mean, who knows what he can do, because it's a Soul Rend?
This is, like, some crazy shit. This is like some Diablo III special attack." "Yeah, oh man, Kali? Ooh, Kali. Forty damage to Kali." "Who's going to pop you back up?" "Larg can heal, technically." "Larg's going to have to deal with this Kla-Korra, I think." "You might want to take that inspiration, buddy." "Mmm, I have a plan. Hopefully it works." "Well, I meant for Braelyn." "Oh, yeah." "Okay, so the Devourer's going to start his second turn. And, no, I'm kidding, I'm kidding, I'm kidding." "Alayna! You're up!" "Okay, so I feel like the Kla-Korra is the least of our problems right now, so I'm going to go over to the Devourer." "And, uh, first we're going to try and hit it, and then if that happens, what?" "One second, sorry, I was getting rid of that." "Oh, sorry, I got, like, scared." "The electric slid out of the way." "Yeah, I'm going to hit him, and then if he hits, I'm going to do something, and I don't know how helpful it'll end up being, but, you know." "We'll see." "That's a crit, baby!" "Oh, yay!" "Oh, okay, I'm so excited.
Wow, a crit one and a crit 20 in the same game." "That's awesome." "Yay." "The target's AC is reduced by two for the remainder of the encounter. If the target has no armor, which it doesn't, it's really just, you know, gross, everyone gets a plus two to their attack for the remainder of the encounter against this target." "Wow." "Be bad." "So basically a plus two, what, to attack on this specifically?" "Yes." "Okay." "Everybody gets a plus two against the Devourer, basically." "Fun. Okay." "Was that stacked with the..." "Oh yeah." "Okay." "Yeah, yeah, yeah." "The flanking, that's what I meant to say." "Yes, so it'd be a plus four when you attack, if you're in a..." "Yeah." "Okay, I'm going to do something dumb, but we're going to do it anyway.
We're going to use Pushing Attack." [Laughter] "I will get it away from Calli and Kaladin." "So, first we're going to do damage and then we'll deal with if I push him." "Sure." "Okay, d10." "Eight." "Beautiful, so we're going to add eight to damage." "Twenty-eight damage?" "Okay, now the Devourer has to roll a Strength saving throw." "Ooh, okay." "It's a pretty high DC though, it's a DC of 20." "He rolled a seven, how about that?" "Yeah!" "Yeah, okay, so I get to push him up to 15 feet away from me." "Let...eh, no, because I'd rather it get as far away from Kaladin and Calli as possible." "That makes sense, okay, and he's back there." "Yeah, I forgot, we get to split up our...we can split up our movement, right?" "Correct." "Okay, because I've moved twice, or twice I think, so then I want to keep...I basically want to follow it." "Okay." "To here." "Got it, so you're going to push it and then run up and stand there." "Yeah, so now I'm going to attack him again." "Okay." "Oh, that's so cool." "Sixteen will hit." "Beautiful, I'm just going to do regular damage." "Uh, 13 damage to the Devourer." "Perfect, that will end my turn for now." "Alright, Larg, it's on you." "Mmm." "Oh shit, I'm so sorry, I just remembered something." "And no, it's bad to remember." "The next type of damage that I had, it's ongoing, I think that was the 20 damage from the Soul something." "Oh no, you're right." "Wait, hold on a second, let me look." "Shit, yeah?" "Oh yeah, because..." "Fuck." "Yeah." "It could be worse, it could have been for me." "Larg, pick me up, Larg, pick me up." "Okay, so if someone would like to heal me, that would be great." "Well, all your healers are disposed right now, except for Larg." "Okay, carry on, I'm so sorry everybody." "Hmm, what a pickle." "Doo doo doo doo doo." "Okay, so Larg is going to turn around and lay on hands Brailin." "And we're going to go ahead and give Brailin, that was 25 hit points." "It's enough for what I gotta do." "Alright, you got 25 hit points." "It's nice to have a bomb strapped to your chest, that sounded..." "He goes, 'Get up.'" "Do we win?" "It's so bad, get up." "No, no, you should have let me die." "So the maximum I have is 35, so I've still got 10 in the reservoir." "Which I might need, or somebody might need, but unfortunately that's a full action." "So I'm not going to do anything, I'm just going to post up in front of this Kla-Kor." "And hope he doesn't try to start something." "See if he plays it cool." "Okay, that brings us to the end of the round." "Your friends are struggling." "Calvin, Cali, you can save them." "Oh god, I..." "You just gotta roll high." "I think too, like, in this, as we're doing this, like, you just see some, like, blood trickle down out of Caladin's nose, like, onto his robes, Cali." "He's like, 'Oh no, it must not be going great up there.'" "I think probably Cali would, like, stagger a little bit too, because that's a lot of damage." "And just be like..." "I don't know, she just...breathed really heavy." "Well check this out." "You're up to 106." "You gotta reach 150 and both of you get to roll twice." "You could end this here." "Are you ready?" "Calvin, give me an Arcana check please." "Yeah." "That's a two." "Alright, hold on. There's that." "Plus two." "Cool." "Calvin, give me an Arcana check please." "24." "Come on baby." "Cali." "Hi." "Give me an Arcana check please." "I have a question." "I have a deal." "Oh!" "Whoa, Dormammu!" "Come to bargain!" "If I gave up my second Arcana check..." "Oh." "Would I be able to cast a healing spell on Calvin and I?" "Ooh." "I'll tell you what." "This should do best." "If you flat out give up..." "your second Arcana check..." "and you give Calvin a negative two on his roll..." "I'll return you both to full health." "However..." "that means that there's a chance this could continue for another round." "I know." "Hmm." "I'm just gonna do the Arcana check." "Okay, let's do it." "I don't have a lot of faith in my Arcana, but I have a lot of faith in Calvin's and I don't want to give him a negative." "We'll be good. We'll be good." "Alright." "Plus seven." "And that too..." "145." "Calvin, just give me a check and you got this." "Fifteen.
That'll put you way over the limits." "You are going to crack this tree in half." "It is going to explode and shatter this blinding red light." "And it is going to not only snap you out of this entire vision..." "That blinding red light is going to erupt from Calvin and Kali in the real world." "All of these demons are going to disappear and it is going to collectively knock the party out." "Boom. Everyone is unconscious." "And all of you..." "...are going to share a bit of a vision." "Not only have you broken this spell..." "This spell was doing a lot more than you would have thought it would do." "You can see everything that happened the day these holes were dug." "You can see everything that happened when..." "Well, it's Darmok. It's obviously Darmok.
We kind of got into that." "You can see him standing over these..." "Anything you want to know, I'll tell you right now in regards to what happened in this area." "Basically, a small film would play out for you." "And you have such stunning detail as to crystal clear, freeze frame anything you want..." "And completely exist in that scene." "Walk around, poke things, whatever." "You can't influence anything because this is the past." "You have 100%..." "Just full download of information." "Now I can just run through this for you and you can stop me anytime you'd like." I think that's probably the best way of doing it. Yeah. "84 years ago..." Oh damn.
"You guys are going to be transported to Brightport, but it's a very different Brightport." "There's... it's a lot more spread out, there's a lot more room." "The port area just is not nearly as large as it is now." "But it's got that Brightport vibe to it." "Kind of a general, not lawlessness, but..." "People kind of... being curt with one another, let's say." "And at that time, there was a couple that was dating." "Max Walgraves and Lauren Hughes." "And they... they kind of had this whirlwind romance where they both found each other in the city and..." "They didn't really waste a lot of time." "They just kind of hooked up and stayed together." "A year later, they had a kid together." "They were kind of settling down in the city." "And Lauren kind of was trying to make the best out of a small home in Brightport." "And Maxwell worked as a bounty hunter." "Now the problem came a couple years later because Maxwell was good at his job." "And that caused friction in the city because there was a gang leader called the Black Hand." "This small gnome." "And he really didn't take too kindly to Max interfering." "He had arrested a couple of gang members and everything." "It wasn't personal, it was just how Max made money." "But with the birth of their second child, Max and Lauren..." "One got married and then they decided to pack up everything, cash the rest of their bounties in, and leave Brightport." "And they got all the way to the Black Tip Forest in their new carts." "Their kids were making the journey fine." "And they realized they had been followed." "To send a message to anyone else who wanted to interfere with the Black Hand, he sent several hired goons after this family." "Mostly Max." "The children were the first to die." "And for four days, Lauren had to watch as they beat her husband to a pulp." "And then eventually killed the two of them." "In 1263, which is three years ago for you guys..." "Picture your magic, the way you tap into it. You have spell slots." "Well, demons have something similar, and using souls, they can power short bursts of magic." "The more souls you acquire, the more energy you can tap into." "At this point, there was enough power to go around." "Darmock resurrected Lauren and made a bargain with her." "After she figured out what had happened, and where she was, what time it was." "And after she stopped crying, which was some time." "Darmock was incredibly honest with her." "And offered her power essentially to get revenge." "And using that, she moved back to Brightport, and well, she's been busy." "And in this vision, the entire time, you guys are just hopping from place to place." "And you're... you could see in stunning detail if you wanted to watch it all." "The four days of them being just brutally tortured." "And you can feel the anguish, the desperation, the total helplessness." "The absolute fear. You can feel these emotions just sort of wafting off of this vision." "And then you can feel this blankness, this coldness." "After she was done mourning, it was just... it was just getting even." "It was just, how can I make people like that feel the way I felt?" "And she found out that in the intervening 80 years, the Black Hand's son took over the operation and moved to Winterhaven." "And eventually was killed.
Moved to Overdale, eventually." "And she just took the name." "And no one could quite figure out how she was able to grant favors the way she's been doing." "Or how she seems to know things before anyone else could possibly relay information to her." "And that's because she has this symbiotic relationship with Darmog. They're feeding each other information." "But there's one more thing." "She's been trying to get people to bring her something." "There's a book in the same forest you're in now." "Now, this book contains two things. One, there is a demonic library." "It's called the Dasari Graad, and it's in the Hazlan Mountains." "There is this rift between worlds, the demonic world and yours, that was sealed away a very long time ago." "But in this book, the people who created the spell to seal that gateway also placed in the book an emergency counter spell to take that shield down." "And Darmog wanted his hands on that more than anything." "And he sent a man in there to get it, who was dying." "He had traded any remaining time he had left for the chance, essentially a cheating death, to live a bit longer." "But when he found out what was in the book, he couldn't hand it over.
He couldn't give it away." "So he ran." "And he was chased by this relentless stalker demon for days on end." "And the demon was attracted to just him." "And he figured this out because he stowed the book away, waited for the demon to come, and then found out it walked clean past the place where he had stowed the book away." "Loren has sent people toward these woods to find that book." "And the reason she wants it is twofold. One, she wants to give Darmog what he wants, but there's another bit in that book that could severely weaken her and almost completely cut her tie to the demonic world." "And if you were to get your hands on that book, it would give you a massive leg up." "Whew." "Okay, I'm gonna use the minority report interface to rewind and see if that guy who hid the book died or not." "Oh, he died horribly." "Okay, then I fast forward and I skip that part." "So the guy that had the book, was the book originally in the Blacktip Forest or was it originally in the demonic library?" "It was in the demonic library. It was a man named Isaac Arthur Hitch.
And he essentially made a mistake." "He thought he could go through with this, that no one was going to get hurt." "He went to this place that had already been opened by some other group at some other time." "And he found the book, almost delivered it, and backtracked at the last second." "And he was stalked for the rest of his life and eventually brutally murdered." "When we're seeing all of this, do we see where he stowed this away?" "So, yes. And there's good news and bad news." "Good news and bad news." "It's by a tree." "Well, okay. The good news is that you know exactly where it is." "The bad news is it's going to take a while to get there." "And it is on the edge of the forest, placed in one of the pillars of a bridge that crosses a river." "Now, there's one more bit of information." "And it's..." "Being as how that wave of emotion was hitting you, you kind of get a sense of the motives of this woman." "Like, you kind of get it.
Like, you get..." "It wasn't just the Black Hand and his men. It was that city. That whole fucking city." "It was rotted from the day it was created, and it's only gotten worse." "And anybody that would contribute to that city's growth, to crime in general, to doing ill to others, deserves to be punished." "Can I get a history check from each and every one of you, please?" "Yes, sir." "Calvin. Elena. There's a holiday coming up." "On the 15th of Doolan, which is not too far away, Brightport is about to celebrate its centennial." "And there will be a massive public gathering on that day." "That information's neither here nor there.
I just thought you'd like to know." "Quick question, because I take terrible notes." "What was the day we were supposed to meet with the paladins?" "I know, I like how I could hear everyone's notes going back, trying to figure out what day did we say." "Wasn't it like the fifth, I want to say?" "The third of Doolan is when we will meet the paladins." "Okay, that's in like five days, right?" "Yeah." "So, okay, well..." "I can get us there." "Oh shit." "Do we know, this is just kind of a flavor, but do we know what her kids' names are from this?" "I don't know if you'd get, like, again, if you're observing and stuff like that, you might have heard their names called out or something like that at some point." "Mm-hmm." "But may I ask why?" "Just 'cause it's, you want to know the personal information, especially when you're going to confront someone personally." "Right. Okay, yeah. So, there was a boy and a girl.
Jamie was the boy." "My sister." "Well, I'm sorry." "I'm just kidding." "It's like Lannister. And Brianna was the girl. No, I'm just kidding." [Laughter] "Can you imagine though?" "I mean, good pulls, I would say." "Sandra was the girl." "Okay, so the, 'cause when we first got here, we only found two bodies." "Right." "So who used that?" "So you found three holes, right? And you, like, essentially, if, okay, now that you can kind of sift through everything, it's like, basically, Max was buried in a hole, Lauren was buried in a hole, and the two kids were just kind of lumped together and put in a hole." "Mm-hmm." "Yeah." "And this is probably why she wanted the bell in the very, very first place." "So, I think that's a good time for us to stop for the evening." "Mmm." "Damn." "Woo!" "Well, we can't rest in the woods, right?
So I'm just gonna, well, maybe I'll remember next time to Mass Cure Wounds, everybody." "Yeah, yeah, yeah, you'll be fine." "Yeah. Oof. Wow. Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow." "Okay." "So, congratulations, guys, you're on your last leg." "Oh, wait, what do you mean? You gonna kill him?" "No, no, no, I mean, of the adventure, like, you're closing in. You now know something about your enemy." "That's true." "Largan and me can finally be real boys." "We gotta go after this book somehow." "We gotta get that book?" "We gotta get that book." "You know what, can I ask one more question?" "Mm-hmm." "You said that it was gonna take a while for us to get to the book.
How long?" "Um, it's probably gonna take you a good three days." "Oh, fuck, we're fucked." "No, because..." "I mean, like, basically we walked by it, right?" "Yep." "No, we didn't cross a bridge." "To get into the forest, you did, yes." "Oh, sure." "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah." "Well, then, you know, then it's on our way." "Yeah." "Oh, okay." "Guys, I can maybe get us to Grifort." "Braylin. Well, shoot, we're trying to meet the paladins outside of Briteport." "I can maybe get us outside of Briteport." [laughter] Hey everybody, we really hope that you enjoyed today's episode.
