And who knows when we're going to get a chance again. That being said, I'm not the type of person who usually likes to layer in a bunch of content warnings or trigger warnings and stuff like that. For the most part, I think you all understand that this is fantasy. And every once in a while, we're going to be tackling stuff that might be a little uncomfortable. That being said, today's episode might hit a little close to home for everybody, being that Firebrand is supposed to be kind of an advanced town guard, almost a special force or SWAT team type of thing.
Now, we're not trying to draw real live parallels to anything in the news, but sometimes that's just kind of unavoidable. It just feels like it, you know? So if that makes you uncomfortable today, please realize that this is all fantasy. We're not trying to make any political statements. We're just trying to play a game. So with all that being said, I hope you guys enjoyed today's episode and more importantly, sound off on our Discord, sound off in emails at danddrapodcast@gmail.com. I am more than happy to respond to each and every one of you personally, if need be.
But more importantly, I hope you guys are doing great out there and please enjoy today's episode. *silence* Ooooooooh, let's do that thing where we go around the table and introduce ourselves. I'm Jason. I have a migraine. I'm the Dungeon Master. Going around the table, starting with Jamie. Ahhhhh, look at first! *laughs* Hi there! I'm Jamie. I play Bo, the Tiefling Paladin. And Kelsey. I'm Kelsey and I play Calypso, the half-elf bard. And Rob. Hey, I'm Rob. I'm playing Jolo Thane, the Elden Warlock. And Brie. Hello, I'm Brianna Marie and I play Gwenavive Lothius, the Soulsteal Tiefling halfling.
Nope. Steel soul, really? Yep. Whatever your instinct says, do the opposite. I'm caused! You could hear it! Just think of it stealing your soul. We could just go back to Bionicle first. Fucking Ineasha. Anyway! *laughs* I blame Ineasha. It's Ineasha's fault. Yeah. And last and certainly not least, Zachary. What's up? My name is Zachary and I play Paxton Warren, the Human Cleric. I tried it on for size. It's just Zach. I feel like you were in trouble. I feel like... Zachary? Yeah, doesn't bring back good memories. Yeah, sorry. Nope. I tried, like, okay. I tried calling Michael Mike one time.
Nope. Never again. Didn't work. Awful. That was the worst. I was there. No, I couldn't look him in the eye. It was... *laughs* Guys, last time on the show, you know what happened. We all know what happened. And I feel like we're just stalling at a certain point. The city... The city of Brightport is rioting. At least a small percentage of the city of Brightport is rioting. And we had a lovely conversation last month about what could be done about something like that. But before we officially get done today, what I'd like to do is go around the table. And in this moment where people start taking to the streets and they're really angry, they're waving, you know, pitchforks, torches, weapons, stuff like that.
And they're marching north right now. It looks like they may be marching to the city center or at least out of the poorer neighborhoods and moving north. What's going through everyone's head? Let's just go around. Let's start with Zachary. *laughs* You know, that makes sense. I do feel a little... Because you are in trouble. Yeah, you are. It makes sense. You know, what would a young Paxton Moore be thinking in a moment like this? Picture it. He just wants to be a pillar of the community. Finally, he got on his literal soapbox and all hell broke loose. So I think there's a part of him that's somewhat proud that people are, you know, at least they know there's an issue now.
Maybe this isn't the right way to go about it. Maybe some bad things are going to happen tonight. But I think it's nice to get the ball rolling. So I think Paxton is just going to take it all in for a second. So he's kind of in shock right now. It's really hard to know what to do because not much has really happened yet. They're just mobilizing. So, you know, just wetting it out. I think shock is perfectly fine. I think that's justified. This doesn't happen often. I don't know if you have any records of Brightport when the last riot happened or how bad it was.
I mean, here's the thing. I wouldn't call it a riot, but obviously six months ago with the whole thing with the Black Hand, there was a big panic. There was fighting in the streets. There was a this is obviously different, but a disruption of social order, let's call it. Gwen's right in the middle of all this. Like, what's what's what's Gwen think? I think how far away was Gwen from Bo? You know what? Just specifically Bo, do you think? Because she was trying to like blend in. Yeah. You like I feel like you were in the middle of the crowd and Bo was kind of hanging out on the outskirts, just kind of.
So you're a good distance away, maybe like, oh, 75 feet or so. So I feel like as people are starting to get. I don't think they're violent yet, like they're definitely starting to. But it's not like they're throwing punches at each other. They're like trying to march to. Why would they throw punches at each other? They know who the enemy is. Good. So I feel like at first Gwen would be trying to phone ringers off. Did a phone ringer go off? My phone. I got a text notification. I was like, oh, don't don't be me. My ringers are always off. So I feel like at first she'd be like grabbing people's like sleeves, like trying to stop them from rioting, essentially.
Like, no, no, no. That's not what he meant. Like. And then when it starts getting thicker and when you're a smaller person, a danger is present in big mobs. So I feel like then she'd kind of dart out to find Bo if she could. Yeah, I think the way you've described yourself, it would pretty much be, get off me, kid. Like, they wouldn't take you seriously, like as an authority. She's not wearing her uniform. That's the problem. Nope. And even then, there'd be a slight challenge. I mean, maybe not after today, because, you know, Firebrand is going to get a reputation one way or another.
I don't know how, but like, we'll see. So speaking of Bo, Bo is on the outskirts here. So you're going to see this mob gradually gather. Like we said, it started with like maybe 50 or 100 people, something like that. And as people exited bars, as the crowd started to swell, as as Paxton's voice kind of elevated and people are silent listening to this. It's like, all right, OK, like they're getting bigger and bigger. And eventually a thousand people are there. So Bo's going to see a thousand clustered people move in her general direction, obviously not like beelining for her, but like in that general direction.
Is Bo wearing her uniform? No one was wearing the uniform except Paxton. OK, that's just wanted to make sure it's ironclad. We were all trying to be on the DL. We sure were. We were. Well, I think as this is happening and sort of as these people are accumulating, Bo is going to like jump into action. Like there is no time for thought and is going to try to wrangle the members of the group together so that we can sort of formulate a plan. So whoever would be the closest to Bo would be the first one that they run up to and just say whoever that may be. I'd say Giolo.
Giolo, this is getting out of hand. We need to act now. Let's get everybody together and either go get Warwick or follow this mob and try to calm the tides down. OK, yeah, I call going to Warwick and he just bolts off. We'll take take someone with you. Don't go alone in this. I'm fast. I'm faster by myself. So we're splitting the party right off the bat. Oh, so good. Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool. Just to clarify, it's Warwick before I get Steve asking me because the only Warwick I know is the the the fortune teller. I spelled it in my notes Warwick, so I'll put no or Warwick Warwick Warwick.
Oh, and I I waive my apologies to the to the fellow sex worker that I was grinding up against when we ended the episode. I mean, forgive the expression, but bigger things have come up. Good golly. OK, so it. I think Calypso was kind of close to where Giolo was. And that's kind of like, OK, I want to wrap things up. So, OK, you see, you see Giolo take off and he's going to try to get the mayor, which I mean, that's going to take a bit. Calypso's was fairly, you know, in the thick of the crowd. What's what do you do? Like, I mean, oh, man, like there's like first impulse is just get out of here.
Like they don't see it's like this is getting out of control. And I mean, they don't know anything that they can do to try and calm things down for the moment, just like get to like get out of the crowd and like see where everyone else is and just kind of get an idea for what's happening. But most importantly, get out of the way. I thought a lot over the last month or so about how to play this, and we kind of touched on it last last time. And, you know, there's a lot. It's it's like watching a tropical storm, like on Doppler. And you're like, I mean, like it should go this way, maybe.
But you're guessing like it could. It's a big angry mob. So there are going to be some roles. But what we're going to do is we're going to play this in 10 minute chunks. So on this ice cold day in Brightport, that breeze just coming, just just coming off the ocean and and everyone is angry and mobilizing. You're going to see like just just it's almost like a freight train, like you could see all their breath and stuff like that. But it's just one big pack like they are moving. So I'm going to be asking you guys what you'd like to do, how you'd like to do it.
We're going to roll if we need to roll. And then I'm going to play this mob, which you can see. That's the big yellow circle on the brightport map. And we're going to move them where they would move in a 10 minute chunk. And we are going to either expand or decrease the amount of people that's that's in that mob. Hopefully decrease. Hopefully we can de-escalate things, but we'll see. OK, let's start with the people who stayed here. Let's start with the four of you. I'm imagining you guys are getting together and, you know, very quickly talking things over.
I would think so. Yeah. Because, you know, making sure that everybody's accounted for in this mass of people is like top priority for Beau. Like, I don't want anybody to get swept up, especially Gwen in this mob. I'm picturing like Dragon Con, like just trying to cross the street, you know? So for Gwen, that fucking sucks. But she's pretty dodgy. Like, it's not as bad as being like adjacent in that situation. You're just kind of stuck in place waiting for people to move. I am not dodgy. Very dodgy. But I suppose once the group finally gets together and is able to find each other, Beau's going to ask, "What the hell are we going to do?
This is out of control. They're going to take over the city." Paxton is, he's kind of... It was Paxton's situation. Right. Oh, that's a great question. He kind of cosigned the thing that Beau just said. So like... True. Can I just really quick, Zach, you've been a champ, by the way, for the last month and a half. Really? I feel like... There's been a lot of jokes on Discord and you've just been aces. Taking them to the chins. Honestly, I don't think it's been enough. Don't ask for more, Zach. No. You heard him, patrons. Get in there. Absolutely. There were more. I think, I think...
Man, he was following, he was... As soon as the crowd started to mobilize, he was falling for a bit and like, you know, he was trying to calm the crowd down, but... At some point, you just kind of sound like a hypocrite. Because he was the one that, for better or for worse, got the people moving. So that, you know, it's kind of the thing where it kind of falls on deaf ears. Where they just see you as the message of "Go", not the message of "Stop". So he, when he meets up with everyone else, he's just going to say, "Everyone, I think I went a little too far." Now, I'm not sure if I'm the one that caused this ruckus, but I think I might have had a hand in it.
Might have. Really? Here we go. You don't know. I made some valid points. And that's, okay, I will not make excuses for what I said. But, I feel like we need to focus on the future. And the future is us not being employed if this keeps on. So, any ideas? Quick question while Paxton is saying this. What's happening with the big guy in the polar bear? He was giving Paxton a stare down, and... He was. They were... No, go ahead. I'm not. Thank you. I've annoyed you enough pre-session. Everyone watch the behind the scenes. Yes, go. We've established this guy is kind of large in charge.
He's, he's, he was definitely checking out Paxton. There's going to be sort of satellite people around him at this point. And he's, he's definitely talking things over with them. And you can see that it looks like he's mobilizing his crew. Like maybe there's something... Gangs only do good things during riots. There's going to be a person who runs up to Paxton during all this. And, uh, he's... And you could see, like, this person is furiously trying to jot down notes. He's got his, he's got like this pocket with ink and quill and stuff like that. And he's, it's, it's a terrible system, but like, this is what he's got.
He's like, no autographs kids. Get the hell out of here. Sorry. Monty Albert, Brightport Observer. I would love to... Like he, like, he is literally from the Brightport newspaper, so to speak. Like he is literally trying to... What a scoop! Like he's trying to... If that's the case, um, Paxton is going to, he's going to straighten up. He's sweating. He's going to slick his hair back with like, so like a beady sweat, like a little greasy. Like he's going to put on his best smile, put his hand forward. Paxton Warren, nice to meet you. Is anyone getting a real politician vibe from Paxton right now?
Like, oh, let's look to the future. Let's not talk about who caused all of this. Also big smiles and greasy hair. Quick, quick, quick, quick question. So this guy, the thing, so he's writing on like a notebook? It's, it's, it's more like loose parchment paper and stuff like that. It's very messy. Does he already have like stuff written in it? Like has he been like taking notes of this whole thing? Look at you! Paxton is going like, trying to see what he's writing down. He's very concerned. Calypso's going to find out if this is a hit piece coming together. Yeah, like this is...
What is a hit piece coming together? Yeah, that's what I'm asking. Well, he also said what, what, what news source he's from. It's the Brightport Observer. And if anybody wanted to do a little streetwise to... To observe. Definitely. To, you know, like what? Is this a reputable paper? Oh, streetwise. Wisdom. Why did they not? Just give me wisdom. Why did they get rid of streetwise and stupid? It's a thing, you know? What are you going to do? Wisdom? I've never read a newspaper in my life. It's a check, not a save, by the way. Well, it's still... It's still... Yeah, it's still four.
Go again. *GASP* Wow. Stay in stance. I have never read any paper in my life. Oh, wow. I don't read. Does your mom just like use them for like paper mache? Listen, we only read the... We only read the Brightport Journal. Okay. Our mom only lets us watch Fox News. Oh, no. It's like the only time you've seen newspapers when it's cut up to make ransom notes. So The Observer... The Observer is a somewhat reputable paper, but they have been known to sensationalize a bit. Like, if it's kind of a slow news day, they'll choose their wording in a way to spice things up.
It's not, and I'm not going to name any real world news sources, I don't feel like doing that. But it's not... It's not... They're not just making things up necessarily, but they are choosing to focus on certain things sometimes. So with... Okay, give me a perception check. So Calypso and Paxton, you two give me a perception. See what's... Oh my God. House of 28. That's... That is... Oh my God. We are paying attention. Yeah, you are. Okay, so that's two crits. Listen, Calypso, our image matters. Alright, we gotta pay attention. I believe in Harvey Dent. So you... You're paying very close attention to this parchment, and there's some early notes scribbled on here that...
They're like shorthand, right? But with this perception, it doesn't matter. Like, you could picture what the article would look like. So when this started, and you were just delivering kind of a, you know, bootstraps kind of speech, it started that way. And it's like, okay, new local authority figures, you know, try to inspire downtrodden, you know, like that type of thing. And then as it got a little more spicy, it was... It kind of... The story starts to become, new authority figure wants to... Like, as this goes, it's like, new authority figure wants to gut our old policies and change.
And then it became like, it's like, wants to completely rearrange our economy and way of life and tradition. Like, it becomes like a... It becomes like a... It's like we just celebrated our centennial. That's 100 years of doing something a certain way. And this person is like, no, there's a new sheriff in town, and we're going to do it this way. Like, it became like a... It's not necessarily like... The way the article is being like, like, short-headed right now, it's more like, it's like, what do you think, readers? Like, it's like a vote, because there's already a lot of people kind of on your side.
So like, it's like, you know, are these people freedom fighters or an unruly mob, that type of thing. Right. And if I know anything about the media, you have to make them biased. So Paxton, he's going to, he's going to, after he shakes his hand, what was his name again, by the way? Monty. Monty Obert. Monty Obert. Yeah, he's basically, it's like, I'd love to get a quote. Um, Paxton says... While this is happening, while this is happening, there's a rioting crowd moving north. Yeah. Yeah, can we clarify, like, we gotta go. I think we gotta separate here. Paxton has to handle this, but I think the rest of us might go handle the crowd.
Yeah. So one thing, so like, I would like to use Prestidigitation to, um, so like, look so kind of like, like, while Paxton like starts to like talk and has this attention, they kind of mutter under their breath a little bit, and I would like to soil an object. Wow. Okay, I want to basically, I mean... I want to piss all over that paper. No! Sorry, soil though, like... That's what it says, that's the word. Yeah, so it gets covered in paint. Not everything has to be filthy, Bree. Soil though. Just like, like, like grime and like, to me like to like soil or like run a piece of paper, I mean you make it like wet and stuff so that it just kind of like falls apart.
I mean there's, there's ink right there. That's true. Yeah, but I don't have a thing that could do that. Whatever. So, uh, so... That works too, but yeah, just, I want to... no notes. Goodbye. So this, yeah, it's going to, this paper's just pretty much ruined. He's like, "Oh, gee!" And he immediately starts to try and calm down Paxton. He's like, "Don't worry, I gotta mind like a steel trap. Fire away!" Absolutely, absolutely. You know, how about we go this way? I mean, I kind of, kind of lead him away from the group because I know they have more important pressing matters, but you know, this is pretty important too.
So, um, as, as you know, I'm leading him away, I'm like, "Oh, Mr. Monty, oh, it's good to finally meet the man, the myth, the legend. I've seen some of your work here and there. I've, I've been waiting for you to get a quote from me personally. It's an honor." What is happening? Is Calypso going to stay or join? Oh, no, like that wasn't there once you can space through. Like, they're kind of like, well, at least we won't have like exact quotes for the speech and stuff. So it'll sound a bit more like less relatable and stuff or something. That makes sense.
Yeah. So that's kind of that, but immediately in there, yeah, they're going to go try and help out with Bo and Gwen and also like, there's maybe we should take care of the game that's starting to form. Because that seems like a place where we can actually have an impact and I don't know. So we have split the party three ways. Yeah. Paxton is right there at least. Yeah, Paxton's fine. So I'm going to cut back to Paxton in a second. Giolo is running to the, the, the basically city hall. That, that, that. So that's going to take about 20 minutes. Wait, should we have sent Giolo to Warwick, the guy who hates him?
I'll worry about that later. He volunteered to go to Warwick. Maybe this would be a bonding thing. I was sure he's going to deliver the news in a very courteous and level-headed manner that he'll be able to swallow very easily. Just bust open his door. City's on fire. All right. Jesus, Bo, Gwen, Calypso. What's the plan? Well, I think we need to get ahead of this riot and warn. They're obviously headed towards the better part of the city. We need to warn the shops, the houses, mom. Yeah. Yeah, your mom lives in a better part of town, like the really good part of town.
Yeah. Like she's in the top 10 percentile of people in Brightport. We may not be able to stop them, but we can at least hopefully save some of the damage they might be able to do by letting the people know that they're coming. Right. If we're going to stop the iron knuckle bowlers from taking advantage of this and forming up, then we need to do it now. Are we, are we going to split again? I don't. I honestly forgot about the in that. Warning people is important, but didn't. Isn't that what you ran off to do? I mean, if I don't think we need at least three of us and Paxton can jump in, hopefully and help Brianna catch up because out of character.
What are we worried the iron knuckle boys are going to do that? We're not also worried the rioters are going to do. Well, presumably like a drug thing tomorrow, but it looks like they are taking advantage of the riot and are going to do it. That's what they're doing. See, I was not caught up with that. I was like, Oh, they're just no, they're like starting to like form together to do something with the right, which presumably would be worse than what the actual civilians are intending. And also they have like weapons and stuff. So that's like, okay, well, if we need to stop this part, we need to stop it right now.
And, but it's kind of up to you guys what the party is. They also, if you guys need to take off, that's fine. They are not going to try and interfere with that on their own. I don't think what if we got a larger soapbox and just put it in front of the mob, bigger box person in the party on the box and just was like, calm down everyone. Give a mouse a cookie. Unfortunately, calm person was banned. Okay. Because that's the first thing I love about all this is calm emotions. Just cast it a thousand times. It's about a 30 foot range. I was thinking we could just reason with the mob.
I don't, here's where I'm at. I don't know that we have enough information about what the iron knuckle boys are doing to do anything about it as just three people, whereas we know the riot is headed towards the better part of town and are going to fuck shit up. Actually speaking of knowing the riot, because we're in the center of this everything right now. Well, I mean, they've moved on quite a bit. They've moved on, but we were in the center. I was, especially Gwen was in the center. Quite. Yeah, I think we're about to have a 10 minute. Did I like pick up on anything while I was like, let's go over here or something because like when you're in a big group of people, you kind of get tidbits of their conversations right?
Well, okay. Do I know where this is headed? And what they're planning to do? I think, normally, I don't think it's as vague as let's just punish people who are richer than us. However, the houses of Brightport were definitely the target in Paxton's speech. And that was the scapegoat. It was the houses they've, you know, they've, but it's, you know, in his speech, if you remember, essentially, there are people at the top who have been profiting with the houses with, you know, like it's that top 10 percentile. Like everybody who's living in a manor house and has acres of property.
While your neighbor is sitting on top of your house and you have like a six foot high ceiling and you're just trying to get by and all the shit like right now they're heading north. And the problem is the houses of Brightport are scattered. Right. We don't know exactly which one they're headed. I think we talked about last week that the most likely place was going to be Dragon's Keep. I mean, Dragon's Keep is the furthest north. It's also in the richest part of town. It's right on the edge of that. Yeah. Silverquall's kind of an unlikely target. You're not going to go target the professional killers.
That's what I was thinking is Dragon's Keep is also the least armed. Professional killers or the most... One of them is a mercenary. Professional bodyguards, you know, the bouncers. Yeah, some are the most well off, I would think, out of the three. Because they're focused on commerce. Yeah. So... Now, if this was the old Blackmagic days, maybe they wouldn't want to fuck with any of them. I don't know. But Tessia has pretty much a reputation of like kind of being a softie. Oh, that's a mess. So they're going to use that to riot against her. Shit. Be cruel, everyone.
So here's what we're going to do. We're going to roll three die. One is distance traveled, essentially, on a scale of one to ten. How far they made it in ten minutes. So, oh boy, here we go. Two. Okay. So, essentially, they've made it to about here. The Stout Adventure, which is another bar. A pretty rowdy one, where mostly dwarves hang out and stuff like that. It is a rough part of the docks. Now, the second one is how good are they at spreading Paxton's message? On a scale of one to ten. Now, this will determine the size of this group. How infectious are they?
Do they have any catchy slogans? Oof, that's a one. Okay. Oh, thank God. They can't agree on a slogan. Yeah, they don't have anything. Like, someone keeps putting in too many syllables, and it's like, it doesn't roll very well. I know, we're going to fight. What do we want? We're still undecided. What do we know? It's very- It's 99%, okay, cool. We have nothing to worry about. Oh, no, stop. They're going to set up some tents, and it's going to, everything's going to stay the same. What did we say about real world? I'm sorry. It's too easy. Everything's terrible, anyway.
I know. Anyway, last one. How much destruction on a scale of one to ten have they done in this small distance traveled? I'm feeling good about this, actually. These are low rolls. We've had two low rolls. Oh, my God. Well- That's your fault. You did that, Zach. Not a thing. Listen, listen. It's not that bad. It's not a nine. That's an eight, everybody at home. There's literally only two numbers you could list that it's not. A little obstacle, a little, you know, just because you got to have a little confidence. It goes a long way. So how many fires are there? We're fine.
There are some fires. There are some. I think they tried to get people from the Stout Adventure in. And while they got a couple of hop ons, they're not, again, they're not good with the catchy slogans. They're not good. In fact, some of these dwarves may just be there to break shit. That's why I was consuming. Yeah, considering the numbers, yes. So like this, I don't think- That's a stupid slogan. Smash. We'll work on it on our way downtown. Like, they are just busting windows and throwing shit and- You know what? I don't want to stereotype, but man, I really wish we hadn't started in the dwarven bar.
It's- Seems like a normal day for this bar. Honestly, the eight makes sense. So the size of the group, the growth of it's completely negligible. But the aggression of the group makes much more sense that there's some dwarves mixed in there. So, okay. I don't want to stereotype. They're the- You know what? They're the type of dwarves that would go to that bar. It's not that they're dwarves. It's the- Look, we've established- Do you remember when Eric was on the show? Yeah. And he got the shit kicked out of him going in that bar with no weapons? Yes, that bar.
He picked a fight with a bar. That was the problem. So- That bar is bad is what I'm saying. You guys see this. We should let it burn down. Well, here's the thing. The bar's not on fire. Of course not. So there are- You guys are going to see this. They're busting shit. They're yelling. They're starting to get- They're starting to just kind of- It's like a shotgun. The anger's not as focused as- I mean, hope isn't the word. It's just not as focused as it could be. Okay. So we need to make a decision if we're going to try and handle the Iron Knuckle boys or if we're going to try and get ahead and warn people.
All right. Here's my next question. I have two now. Is there any infrastructure within Brightport as a city to fight fires? That's question one. Yeah. I mean, all big cities have it. Like- Okay, cool. Cool, cool, cool. There's a notion. You don't have any water mages or anything. Well, there are- Here's the thing. We've established on the show that there is magic that, you know, like, I mean, if all those fells, they're shit like tsunami. Right. And we are right by the dock, so there's going to be a fire. Right. So question number two. Yeah. Quick scan, preferably from someone taller than Gwen.
Are there guards around? Are there people already trying to deal with this problem? There are guards, yes. Okay. That's a good news, bad news situation. So I think at this point you're going to start hearing bells go off where people are, like, alerting. Like, they haven't moved very far, but at this point it's like, "Oh shit, like, there's fires. There's stuff going on." So it's like ding, ding, ding, ding. Like, you know, merchants are boarding things up. People are getting inside. People are scattering. The problem with that is now people are looking, it's like, "Well, what are we running from?
What's going on?" And some people who are a little more predisposed to this type of thing might pay more attention to it. It's the Streisand effect a little bit, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. So, Giula's still going. I'm going to, like, so please go ahead. Did you Iron Knuckle boys or this? I don't know. I feel like Beau would go with the riot only because we caused that, and so Beau feels responsible for it. That's fair. And I think Gwen would go with Beau. Like I said, like, Brianna is like, "Oh, well, logically." But that's not Gwen. I have to say, like, Gwen would stick with Beau.
We could only have, like, a bit more. Right. I was just like, "What the hell are we going to do?" It's not easy. We want Paxton off in a corner talking to a reporter. Right. Oh, I'm going to ask for specific quotes in a minute, Zach. Oh, God. Then I'll let you go. Like, it's fair. Like, oh, like, like, like, this is, this is like already, it's like, "Paxton, what are you doing?" And now this is just, like, like even more, like, on top of that, like, I think this reporter, this reporter, let's cut back to the reporter real quick and say, like, I think this reporter was kind of expecting you to be like, "Get away from me," that type of thing.
And the fact that you are not only willing to cooperate, but Paxton seems to be very verbose, like, very media friendly. So Monty would thank you at one point. It's like, "Hey, I really appreciate you. Thank you for your total cooperation, your candor." Absolutely. You know, hey, the media is important. Someone has to tell the story out here and tell it truthfully, like what happened here today. You know, a lot of truth was said here today. Do you feel like this is, do you feel like this was something that was inevitable, it was always going to happen and someone just needed to set people on this path?
Or do you think that this was never going to happen unless you made the speech? Listen, Monty, we had demons in our city just a couple months ago. We've been headed down this path for a long time. It just took someone like me who was brave enough to step up and say what's right. Think about it this way. A lot of the problems caused, even here today, they were caused by, I don't know, the top 10% of Brightport, the rich... Monty, you don't make that much now, do you? You work much harder than, say, someone at House Dragonkeep. Oh, the truth is my reward.
Hey, and you know what? That's respectable. Anybody can respect the truth, and the truth is you deserve a lot more, Monty. Well, let me ask you about that, the top 10% you've referenced. If you were in charge, if you had your way today, what would you want to get accomplished? Well, what do you... now that this is set in motion, what is your perfect scenario? Monty, my perfect scenario is one day where someone in the docks right here can say, "I don't have to live right above my neighbor in a six-foot apartment with little ceilings above someone. They can just have all the space that's afforded to someone at the top 10% with their mansions and their huge courtyards.
That's a lot of space. That could all be used for something else." My perfect scenario, my perfect vision is equality, Monty. Financial equality. Because we all work hard, but we all don't earn the same. It gives them a wink and a smile. One more question, I'll let you go. You seem to have a lot to deal with today. Absolutely. Yes, in the background you hear some screaming and glass. Glass smashing fucking. What do you say about certain merchants in the Grey Quarter or the northern part of town who say that people near the docks just aren't willing to work hard enough?
You know, I've been around the docks basically my whole life and I just don't think that's a fair assessment. A lot of the merchants, I won't lie to you, they work pretty hard as well. And sometimes they don't get out to the docks. They can't see the other person's perspective, you know. Everyone works hard in their own ways. Merchants have to sell, dock workers have to push heavy loads all day. But we're all working, Monty. And I feel like if we all just helped each other out, maybe levy some taxes here and there. You know, I have a whole manifesto I have to show you sometime, Monty.
We had to sit down and really talk about this. But I, you know, there's certain taxes especially aimed at the houses that we could really take advantage of. You know, we don't have to do this a violent way. I know things got out of hand today, Monty. But that was not my attention. I love that you're speaking past tense. Like everything's handled already. Yeah, it's fine. Hey man, things got out of hand, but it's fine. He's going to thank you profusely. I would love to do a follow-up story with you. Maybe next week. Sit down, go over that manifesto. Hey Monty, I'll tell you something.
My people will be in contact with your people. We're going to get this hammered out. Can we expect more of this type of groundbreaking radical behavior from Firebrand? Well, I wouldn't call it radical. Again, screaming in the background? You just hear guards running at people and all that. I wouldn't call it radical, Monty. I feel like we're very much within the confines of the law. It's just things got a little misconstrued, some messages. And that's why you're so important here, Monty. You have to deliver the right message to the people. I don't want violence.
I'm looking to levy taxes. Things like that. You know, we can find reform the right way. Nonviolence. It's like an evil Bernie Sanders. Jason, you're going to be editing this one because I'm editing everything but Firebrand. Make sure that the fire sounds in the background and the mob sounds are happening in the background the whole time Paxton is talking. I'm just getting ready to get called a libtard. We're dancing right on the minefield. Didn't mean to, but yeah. Anywho, so... I'm going to stop bringing up real world things. Me too. I got to stop. My character is elsewhere.
Yeah, good. It looks like the opinion of Paxton has gone from lovable idiot to idiot but also maybe evil question mark. Listen, this is not about evil. I'm thinking it as a way of like say like Law and Order SVU, right? You have to kind of talk to the media at some point, right? You can't let them run with the narrative. Media is media. The sad part about it. Oh, there's no bad press. You hear that. That is what is worthy evil question mark is coming from. It's politics. That's all I can do. Is Paxton like gunning for a mayoral candidacy? That's exactly what Jamie said in the chat.
It's like Annie and Annie Kim. Yeah, it does feel a little like... He's actually going to go start his own model UN and... So he's going to leave you to your stuff. After you get done speaking with the reporter, does Paxton rejoin everybody? It depends on where they are. I mean, they're probably still debating. I wasn't talking to the guy for that long. Yeah, I just wanted to get a sense of where he was heading next so we can catch up after that. Okay, let's catch up with the trio here. That's the... Okay, here's the thing. It's like obviously the people starting fires, the people breaking windows.
Those are the people we need to stop right this second. The people who are marching... Yeah, but like once it's a riot. Yeah. The people who are marching at the moment. No, they're not. Not anymore. Like, okay, here's the thing. Boy, we're going to tap dance on that. Okay, here's how I look at this from a mechanic standpoint, not a real world standpoint. I don't want anybody up my ass about this. But this is at the very least something you want to disperse, right? These people are stronger in this huge pack. They are fueling each other. It is a perpetual motion machine right now.
So even if, let's say 5% of the 1000 people are actually breaking shit and burning stuff, they're still part of the group. Just like Paxton made a speech for Firebrand. Not a fan of that. Thanks, bud. We'll deal with that later. Jason, you keep like lining up with people. It's fun. Do I? Oh, me. Because I just said that too. And earlier Jamie did the thing with you. Anyway, you know what would be really helpful right now would be like a hardcore wizard or mage who could cause basically like such a distraction that the whole mob is like, what the fuck? You know, that would be helpful.
Why are naked ladies raining from the sky? Or like Wall of Fire or something. Could he cast Wall of Fire? In this tightly packed, dense city? Yes. Let's do it. I'm sorry, I had to. It was right there, Jason. It's totally fine. I was set up. It's totally fine. Am I softer? Now Bree just went in and out. Yeah. Fuck. Hello? Am I still soft? No. You both look so weird. Weird. Maybe it's an internet thing. Maybe it's like a little brown out. So I thought we were gonna like try and like get to where they're going and warn people rather than like try and wager into a mob as four individuals.
Yeah, okay. That's fair. So what we're going to try to do is sprint. Sprint ahead of the mob and the British are- It'd be slower than single people though because if we're like sprinting through the city, they're all like, "Raaaaaaah!" They're busy destroying stuff. Yeah, like they're like, they're not, okay. They are a huge destructive force. They do not have speed on their side, right? They have sprawl, but not speed. We're gonna run ahead, tell people to barricade their doors, block their windows, shut down. So let me ask you a question. Looking at the map right here.
Where are you heading? Just while you're running through, obviously you're yelling to everybody. But what is your end goal? Where are you running to? Dragon Keep. Yeah, Dragon Keep. Can I roll something to see if I can get a vibe from the crowd? Which way they're going. Like we know they're going north, but like are people saying to Dragon Keep or something like that? You already kind of did that and like you didn't get much from it. Like it wasn't like, like after the next check, check again. Okay. What's this red square on the map? Did I miss that? That would be basically Town Hall.
Oh, okay, okay, okay, okay. Gotcha. That's where it's going. Okay. And 12 is... That's the... The temple. The temple is justice. People probably won't go for the temple, but they are going for number one, which is House Dragon Keep. Which I will find on this map in a moment. There it is. Okay. That's all the way to the top there. Cool. So, yeah, I guess that's probably best because we're also going through the whole merchant corridor to get there. Yeah, exactly. So we'll be able to warn as many people as possible. And you think that's the way they're going to go?
They're not going to go like off to the left here to take this main road past the temple of justice to get... You know what I mean? See this like main... If they attack the temple of justice, I feel like they're really off brand. That's true. Yeah. That's probably not a good idea. That's really off brand. I get it. Like, because from a bird's eye view, it's like, well, if they're going after rich people with lots of land, that temple has trees. No one else gets trees. Paladins are scary. But also like their whole... Again, if they were on brand, which they clearly aren't anymore, but like, they want justice.
They don't want to attack the lady who's going to protect them. Right. So yeah, I... There's probably like a lot of people who don't even like go and like worship there and stuff. So they're probably not gonna... Yeah, no, like, yeah. Yeah, it's just bad vibes, you know? People who attack churches are the worst people and everyone... Yeah, it's just weird. Yeah. So let's do another check for this mob, guys. Let's see what's... Let's check in with the mob, see what they're doing. How you doing, mob? On a scale of one to ten, how much distance have they covered?
Two. Okay. They are definitely slow moving. Nice. Slow going. Yeah, that would put them right about there. So they're sort of in the middle of this tightly packed, dense thing. So they're in alleys. They're like, as a singular organism, like they're swarming over crates, boxes and stuff like that to get, you know, it looks like they're going to the main road. So they are definitely... They're like locusts at this point and most people, it should be noted that most people aren't bothering the people who are in shitty, densely packed houses like they are. The problem is there's a thousand of them.
And it's like inviting a thousand people over to your house. Some people aren't going to take off their shoes. Some people aren't going to... It's like, use a coaster. Like they're just... They're kind of crushing stuff and moving. Like it's a lot. Oh, it's like... Oh boy, you just faded completely out. Can't hear you at all. Can't hear a word. You're muted. You muted yourself. I pressed space is what happened with my hand. It's like that scene from The Hobbit you hate. Wow, you're going to have to be way more specific. And I spent the ports. Oh, you mean the 48 minutes before the movie starts?
Yeah. Yeah, okay. That's the bill. The Baggins hates. So glad they made those. Anyway... Smash the line on every door. So let's see how the... Let's see how this is expanded, if at all. Can I make an argument real quick before you roll? Yeah, sure. Could there be a number? Okay, you just rolled, so never mind. I mean, I got one more. What? Basically, for the amount of people that get on board, there's got to be a number of people, like if you roll low enough that get off board, that are like, "Okay, this is getting too dangerous. The heat is on." I agreed with Paxton's original message, and we're clearly not following that anymore.
So like the crowd would get smaller. I think what I'm going to start doing is I'm going to start rolling for how effective the guards are doing, and based on that, I'm going to start dispersing the crowd and stuff like that. The first 20 minutes, though, are all mob. You guys running ahead, Paxton running... Sorry, Giola running ahead. I should have trusted you. I'm sorry. That's okay. I need to be in that. One more. Destruction. Now, since they already rolled so high, I'm going to add a plus two because they seem to be prone to destruction, and there's some dwarves in there now.
We need to stop. Ten. Fucking everything out. Guys, that's fucked up. You're not even in the rich part yet. It's probably like most of this isn't intentional. It's just you can't like you just can't have that many people in an area that quickly. It's like, okay. It's like we started this political movement, but we started on bar crawl day in the middle of the fucking alcoholics area. I don't smell this verbiage, Jamie. You know, Old Worker Beach or whatever. Okay, hold on. I'll give you a great example. Movie theaters. Bunch of people gather, and then they leave.
Look how they leave a movie theater. Assholes. Some people dump their popcorn on the floor. Some people just leave beverages everywhere. Some people and it's not like they don't go there with the intention of, you know, messing things up necessarily, but they have. And, you know, like that's like imagine 1000 people crawling over things moving like they're angry. They're shoving and they're like, it's a lot. Giole. All right. You're on baby. All right. Give me. So you're about halfway to your journey. You're going to start hearing like bells sounding and stuff like that.
Guards are going to run past you and mobilize and like it's an all hands on deck situation. Obviously, and this is this is a sad fact. There are more guards in the lower quarter than there are anywhere else in the city. I'm good emails. And there are better trained guards in the north guarding property and things more than people. So you're going to see people flood past you and like you know, by the time you get to City Hall. People are starting to mobilize and work is going to start to leave and and he's getting ready to just make a beeline for the town center right now and he's going to see Giolo and.
Oh, man. Okay. He's going to see Gio and he's going to he's going to look at what's happening. Do you know what's happening downtown? I came to tell you that there's a riot, and we don't know how to stop it and Paxton should be banned from speaking but we'll talk about that later. What what what do you recommend what's what's the feel like I missed this chapter I don't know what we do when this happens. He's going to clap down on Gio shoulder, like a big like manly like it's like, come with me, no one could blame you for this this is well beyond your scope, you're a small team you're just why aren't you wearing your uniform.
Low profile low profile. And, like, he has no time to go over that right now. All right, come with me, and he's going to usher you, like, to him. This is just a, like, whatever spark this off is a huge thing. He did not expect your team to be able to take on a, you know, a whole goddamn town like it's that that would be ridiculous right right. But you can help in. Like you, you know, walling them off dispersing them that type of thing. You just send, man, you guide me and I'll, I'll do. I'll do what I can, like just point point me and I'll go. You guys are going to start to like just run, just like streaking, you know, and.
Okay, so work and Gio are just running, and a group of guards are going to a group of guards are going to be huddled together, gathering special like riot type gear like big, you know, big iron shields that they're it's it's it's much more about creating like a phalanx like a wall, not weapons necessarily. They have like blunt, you know like sticks batons that type of thing but they're, they're trying to contain and work is going to point to Gio low. Listen, I want you to take this group of men, and I want you to head. He's going to direct you to head past the Temple of Justice, and well into the, the docks quarter right but to the north trying to head people off right.
I'm going to head up north because I think that's where they're going. And he's going to point to these guards. This is Gio low. He's a member of the new team, I want you to give him all the respect that you would give me. And he's going to clasp Gio low on the shoulder again, you're in charge. And he's going to take off. Holy shit paradigm shift. Yeah, this is an emergency like right place right time. Okay. That's how you get a promotion. So, do you mean, do you mean make some kind of persuasion, it slash deception check to like set the tone for how how authoritative we I.
We've. Yes. Okay, so we've already. We've already discussed what the town guard kind of feels about this new team it's like, you know that, like, some people are kind of on the fence about it some people are a little aggressive like it's like why are you so special that you, you know that type of thing. So, there might be a couple of grumbles. But you have 30 men right here. And there are more, you know, guards like downtown trying to like, you know, stop fires to stick you know so they're, they're all looking to you, and I would love it depends on what you say, but yes, I would love a check.
I think what happens is that Gio low is like hand the situation. Any knows. It's not his thing. So, he basically like goes into roleplay mode, so to speak, like, Oh, okay. If, if a client were to ask me to like, do their authority figure kink. I would act right, I would act a certain way. So I think he's gonna roll either performance or deception it's the same modifier, because I'm trained in both. But basically, he's gonna like, he's gonna pretend to be authoritative, because the client Warwick asked him to look authoritative for these guys. I wouldn't call this deception, because you're not.
So okay, I know the whole half truth outright lying bullshit. I'm saying, your intention is to play a role that's more active. Okay, so performance check performance. Okay, let's see how this ends up looking. It's well 12. Okay. Yeah, nervous. So, all right, and he and work has asked me to take these men to this, to this particular like to this particular road that that he thinks the right might fall down. Yes, just head them off at the pass basically like, you know, slow them down, try to disperse them. Okay, does it does it look like I have enough men to put them shoulder to shoulder in the road and like one deep to deep out, how many men am I looking at it, you could probably do too deep and block off an entire road this way.
You can definitely, it's an imposing force 30 guards like it's an impose, you get some magic users in there, you have, oh good have, yeah, you have some versatility like it's like if you saw 30 cops. Even if I had done nothing I would probably not go down that road like I would probably like it's like yeah yeah something's going on there. Yeah, there's a situation. Yeah. Um, so, Joe. Okay, when you. Okay, so you said magic users I assume that they are like distinct from the other troops in loadout or uniform. Yeah, I mean, they're, they're much more in the back you got like you got like a couple of clerics you got like for a squad like this it's almost like SWAT team rules.
So there's a couple of clerics there's a paladin or two what they have to fairly high level wizards not arch mages or anything but like GLL points at like the wizardly types and says, which which which things can you do what you got, you got good riot spells. Are there riot spells. What can you do. I'd say that that's a 12. Yeah, that level of confidence. Poor. Yeah. Can we. Okay. So, uh, okay, we're gonna. Here's we're gonna do, we're gonna jog and I'm gonna talk. Okay. All right. So he like, get some, get some moving, and he's hustling along. Okay. And he says, using lethal force on people that don't deserve lethal force is bad hundred percent.
So we're not going to do that. But if we can pick out someone who has crossed the line and make an example of them. We might be able to, like, put the fear of the law into the rest of them. Right. So if we see someone like stabbing somebody. So murder. Yeah. Okay. I mean, one of the other lethal force ones I don't have the whole list on me but you know. Well, I think, okay, yeah, so, okay, they're, they're listening very intently because what you're. So, okay. When you're a member of the town guard. By default. You have a bunch of restrictions right it's like, okay, you don't just beat somebody because you know when you've got to give them certain amount of warnings it depends on the crime they're committing, you know, you're always supposed to try and take somebody down alive arrest them, all that good stuff.
But what it sounds like Jill is doing is you're taking off a restriction or two, and they're listening very carefully. So, someone is going to raise the questions like, so if we see someone outright trying to lethally hurt someone else, you want us to take them down aggressively. Kill to stop a killing right like like if you see someone going for for killing. Stop them. If you if it takes lethal force to do that. Do that, but try not to might you understand, I just want people to think about the consequences going down this road and continuing to do bad things to the town, right, like you can't like how many people are we willing to have left crushed and destitute by this by by not acting so I don't want to, like, do you see what I'm saying, right, like if we can, if we can get one person and make 1000 people afraid of continuing this course of action in this like split second.
Then that's the thing that we should do. Maximum return minimum force. Give me. Give me a person. No, I'm sorry, give me a performance check. Okay. Continuing on that. Yeah. All right. Yeah. And my skills are there. And then his performance right. I see there is. I see there is extensive arguing about whether or not I'm taking the right course of action and it's a touchy subject. That's better. It is better. So they're, they're kind of gonna deal I think they're, they're pretty much on the same level with you they get what you're saying it's like look, we don't want to, but we need.
Basically, it sounds like, and I want to interpret this correctly. It sounds like Giolo saying, if we have to prove to people that there are going to be consequences for actions to make sure that you prove it against someone who deserves the consequences, right, don't just hit a random bystander don't just, you know, hit somebody who's yelling, you know, fuck you pigs or something like that like they didn't necessarily do anything. Just, I don't know what guards would be called it's fucking fuck you boys like you know i don't know. So, okay. And then, all right.
And the backup plan is that we lock into position. And we, we get that too deep wall of the guards. I'm gonna do a magic thing. And if it works. It might be pretty scary for them, which would also make them second guess it. Got it. So, I'll do my part you do yours. Sure, yeah right so you were going to start to move and set up, I would say, in that time, holy Lord, you're going to set up. Basically right here. You are going to block off this intersection. Let me do a thing. If, if, if Paxton and Bo. Well basically if everyone else was running around warning people and stuff like that.
What I'm going to do is bring that to back down to a zero for the modifier for destruction, because at the very least, it's like a, it's, it's, it's like a tropical storm where people are boarding stuff up there it's like okay so you know, at least people aren't smashing windows out necessarily it's a little harder to do that. I'm going to say that you are all going to meet up again. And you have these guards with you. So the group has been reformed. We are no longer split. Yay. You have a few moments before these people catch up. What would be not mean to do that.
I did not. There we go. I was playing with filters while my camera was off. So I had a big stop sign on my face because that's how I felt. Oh, I don't know what to do. Gio you brought reinforcements that's wonderful. Thank you. Yeah, as soon as like a Paxton, as soon as we all ran up together, and he saw Gio with this huge group. He probably say something like, you got promoted. Congratulations. Oh, okay so do they are they like behind the mob or they are they ahead of the mob seeing me arriving with the people. They ran ahead, so the mobs moving quite slow, but they're quite destructive.
So, yeah, they're going to basically see this pack of guards and probably go, oh thank God, like, and see Gio low and you guys are going to meet back up. Okay, um, Joe was kind of in the zone he's got his plan in his head. He's like he's like going under his breath. Fortunity, Fortunity, I'd be dialing for to the calling for to the message for to the, are you there for to eat. Okay. So, we established that people can see this thing right. Yes. Okay, Joe does not care right now. Okay, that's fine. This tiny being is going to pop into existence near Gio. Oh my, like just kind of looking around, I need you, the least judge right now, and I need you to send an extra special note with a kiss on it to a bond draw to let me crank it up to like the highest right now.
Okay, because I need one of the big ones. All right. And he's, he's looking around the book. What do you intend to do. Gio low Gio low explains to to for to it, but he's about to cast. I'm kind of role playing the new burst of power we just got Joe is about to cast guardian of faith. Got it, which puts like an eight foot tall luck, like eight foot tall luck angel warrior behind all of our forces which is like, so this is going to be our Joe's idea is everyone's gonna wall up to make our wall to stop the people from advancing behind that wall as a last resort.
He's gonna summon this angel that basically smites people who get past our line for 20 radiant damage. All right, so if you try to push past right, the guards are there to give you that opportunity to turn away. Non lethal right like stop advancing, but if you get past the guards. You're going to be the example with 20 radiant damage. Yeah, it's, it's basically a holy Taser. Well, 20 radiant damage is going to kill a person, probably. Yes, yes, I mean, yes, for the most part, most people like I treat NPCs as like people so like level one to adventures so it's not like they have to hit points or four, but at the same time 20 is probably going to kill most people.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So, just for, for, for your purposes, a large spectral guardian appears and hovers for the duration in an occupied space, an occupied space of your choice that you can see within range. The Guardian occupies that space and is indistinct except for a gleaming sword and shield emblazoned with the symbol of your deity. Okay, so they don't see the guardian they see like a blazing sword and shield of Avandra. A creature hostile to you that moves into a space within 10 feet of the Guardian for the first time must succeed on a dexterity saving throw the creature takes 20 radiant damage on a failed save half as much on a successful one.
The Guardian disperses once it is dealt 60 damage duration, up to eight hours. Okay, so yeah so he like basically if someone breaks past the soldier line. They're gonna get smoke, and that's gonna send the message to everybody else watching that. Don't do it. Yeah. So what does. So, do we see that like, like summon this thing. I would imagine. Like a tiny being. I don't know what's more important right now. So, just, yeah, did fortuity say that like did for to confirm that he's gonna yeah give us a little. So, for to do is going to slide around to Jellos back and start like rubbing his shoulders it's alright alright peacefully disperse these people, if we can, but I completely believe in you, and he's kind of like happier than usual.
It's a cute relationship we have. Okay, so then with that in place. I'm gonna see the doo doo doo. I assume press the dictation can increase the volume of my voice right like it's like myriad minor effects but. Okay, with everything else right like the puff of wind she you know like, you know, it's kind of like birthday party magic, like you know what I mean, like, it's not. A booming voice but definitely, I would say like doubles the volume of you yelling, you know what I'm saying it's unnaturally loud. Yeah. Okay. Okay. But other people are going to do things first, or no.
Yeah, I want to know, okay, you guys running into this I think the guards would try to stop you like they think all except Paxton because Paxton is the only one in uniform, but like, they're going to think it's like, oh no if you got it you know like they're going to, you know, and then. Right. And I imagine, you know, either, you know, either Paxton or Gio it's like okay they're there with us so they're gonna let you behind. You notice these guards are very nervous, and they're kind of like it's this calm before the storm. What do you guys do to get ready.
First like clips is kind of like looking at the guards and that Gio who appears to be in charge. Very strange. Oh no we lost Kelsey. Oh, no, no. You're back. Hi. Sorry. Um, yeah, kind of like looking at the like spectral glowing weapon thing and like looking at Gio like, did Gio is that yours. What. I just look I asked a vander for some extra special, you know the juice, and I got the juice for now for the minute. Hopefully it works. Hopefully, really. Don't get me wrong. I do not want to smite anybody but I also don't want the city destroyed. Wait, wait, but it smites people it's smites real good.
I've never seen. Look, look, I've never seen it. Well, while these two are talking, can Gwen just kind of wave at fertility. Oh yeah, like he he'd pop his little head out from behind Gio's neck kind of giving him like a shot. Like, hello, very nice to meet you, and just his little hands. I love him. So yeah, it can. Right, I don't want it to smite I want, I want people to be afraid of being smoked, so that they stop this thing that's happening down the road there. Clips look kind of like, but like like really pauses like they're trying to figure out how to face this, just turn the level down on the smiting so it may be less so on the severely injured front.
I don't know if it has a switch. People that are in large groups and are upset about the thing tend not to be less upset when they see somebody get really badly hurt or killed. Okay, well you know different people than I know because man if I saw someone get smoked I'd be done. But, neither here nor there. They're angry at the people in power, which is kind of us in the situation and if we prove them right immediately that's not the helping, I don't think. Well, I just personally, I think it sends a brutal message to people. Okay, you don't get to talk anymore about that.
I don't think people should die but fair enough. Obviously the less casualties the better. These aren't bad people, they're just riled up and looking for some form of justice. Okay, but well, all right, hold on, they're not gonna wait for us to talk this out so somebody's got to say something to them so I'm unless, unless one of you wants to be the person doing that. Any volunteers because otherwise, I was just told to take these troops here. So I'm, I'm going to pretend real good and see what happens. I have a minor idea. Jason, my assault and battery.
Can I know that the don't worry I'm not going the fucking. I know it's just the name of the thing. I'm not going to react something so could I direct that towards the sky and if so, it wouldn't cause injury but perhaps be very flashy. So okay, what you're doing, huh, is you're essentially launching bits of shrapnel right like it's no that's it's well I'm saying yes you can do that, but eventually it's going to rain sharp bits of metal people fire guns into the air and it's like that's the whole land of then go bang go. Okay, nevermind. I was thinking that like I could draw everyone's attention real quick.
I could play. I don't know. That's the only thing I can think of much. I'm sorry that's straight out of that. This rising movie. Don't worry. I'm going to go ahead and just check on the mob. Okay. I just, I feel like it's been so okay, let's see what the distance they've traveled on a scale of one to 10. No six, oh they made some headway. They, they definitely have. So that would put them about here. Oh yeah, they're right at you guys like the storm. So we got a real helms deep situation maybe. Let's see if, okay, let's see if they've grown in size. On a scale of one to 10.
Oh my god. That's a 10. That's not good. How do I, what do these people come from they move like less than 30 from create like rabbits man. Well, here's the thing they've moved, let's see past the stealth adventure. There's a lot of tightly packed houses so it's probably a lot of people in the same dire straits as them. But then can I can I make it can I make a, I don't know what the word is but because they grabbed all of these people from this area. Maybe they didn't do as much damage to the area because who wants to join a riot that just fucked your house up right.
I think that is, I think that's fair because that's a 10. Let's, let's give a negative two to the damage. The problem is again. Holy God. There's a lot of people moving like, you know, look at concerts and stuff like that how much destruction there is, you know, outdoors. So let's do negative two to the damage. Oh my god. So, right. I rolled a nine that's a seven. So there's still fucking things up a lot of destruction has been done today, almost the nine. Oh my. So, you guys, at this point, you're going to see a crowd of probably 2500 people bearing down on you they're filling up the streets they are losing around, and these guards are kind of shitting themselves because they do not look like they have decreased in numbers they're like the shield wall is up.
And, you know, you guys are basically telling it's like, don't do it, like, get dispersed like that type of thing, but you are kind of a symbol right now of thinking it's like okay well maybe I could try to do like a persuasion or something it's like good at that and, but I don't know if even like I quit, I could like dispersing calm down to go 2500 people. Well here's the thing, it's, it's, you're not trying to chop down the forest you just try to get rid of a couple of trees to get started right if you can, you know, like, don't look at it as I have to beat 2500 people look at it as, you know, anything at this point, basically, I'm going to get ready and roll for these guards to see how effective everything is. And you guys are also going to be making roles to bolster them.
You're all going to be working together and I'm going to go down the line and ask what you are specifically doing. And then we're going to see how effective it is. That sound good. Okay. Sounds awful you like the skill check challenge. I kinda, but the DC just is starting high. Okay. Let's start with, you know what, let's start with Giolo, this was his baby in terms of the guards. These guards are by the way, they like that just sweating and like you know, there's a couple of mages in the back that are prepping shit like Cone of Cold just to kind of like it's like get back like it's almost like the fire hose of like get back, get that type of thing.
And any damage. I'm going to assume. Yeah, what you're trying to do is non lethal, the same rules apply. However, there are going to be things that you just cannot account for because this is an out of hand situation, I would say. But we'll see what happens. Giolo. What do you want to do? Okay, how do you want to bolster these people? So real quick, did, did any, did any of the other party members volunteer to speak to the crowd when Giolo was like, it's either me or you guys right like it's, I think, okay. Okay, okay. Calypso wants to. All right. You know, Giolo is happy to delegate that Giolo just gestures.
And, like, like gestures go for it to Calypso. Yeah, the old. I'm just, I don't know if I have it in me actually think of like words to say, think about it will do you last. Okay. Yeah, that word think about it. So what's Giolo doing that, how is you got your, you got your, your plan be up your last ditch effort. Yeah, yeah. Giolo is yeah Giolo is kind of. He was so presuming he was going to be the one to talk that now he doesn't quite know cast spell we got the spectral guardian. How, how shocking is like the, the presence of blatant magic to these people right like how shocking is the sword and shield magically hovering behind these guards you know like it is.
Well, you also got to imagine there's some magic users in that crowd to like maybe not as trained, maybe not as maybe they didn't go to a fancy mage college but there's a bunch of people, I mean, in a crowd of 2500 statistically you got some magic users in there. Sure, sure. So, you're like, you know, it's up. I think, I think, if I have to put this into words. Imagine you have a crowd that big 2500 people. And you see someone with like some sort of armed vehicle maybe even like a tank. Yes, that is very imposing. Yes, that is, you know, under normal circumstances, incredibly scary.
But one you're all hopped up on adrenaline to these people think they're fighting for a righteous calls and three, there's 2500 of them, you can't get them all is probably the prevailing thought. Okay. I mean, I think, I think Gio Los when Gio realizes he's not going to be the one to talk. He instead basically kind of like his gut is like okay well these soldiers, put their trust in me so I need to. I basically need to join the shield wall so to speak that so that they can see that I'm not asking them to do a thing that I wouldn't do myself. Very Vince McMahon I love it.
So, okay, so what kind of role do you want for that. So you're running up front and basically like just trying to help bolster like like physically or you doing this. Gosh, I magically, I'm not cut out for physically but I guess that's what I'm going to do because like, I can't just start blasting spells into the crowd. Well okay we've already established that these people are scared I'll give you a chance to kind of do another performance thing and like bolster essentially bolstering that AC like how hard they're gonna like hold their ground type of thing.
Okay, just wanted to be a performance check like a, like a. I'm right here with you, follow my lead kind of performance thing. Yeah, and if you're right up there next to them, I think that that'll go a long way. Yeah, yeah, I'll put my body on the line here for that. So, okay, performance, you said. Yes, please. It's 10, it's 10, it's. This is a big scary situation right. So, these guys are there, they're, they're like okay okay okay like those nerves because you see a crowd. That is just massive. This has got to be the biggest crowd that's ever formed in this city, it's in the city that in the walls, this is an attack from within this is, this is a worst case scenario, there are fires and smoke behind them.
They are intent on doing damage. And there's going to be precious seconds as they march down the street, and there's going to be a charge from this crowd. The last 40 or 50 feet and magic is going to fire out with his cone of cold trying to slow them down but this wall of humanity is going to hit the shields and everybody is just going to kind of dig in the people behind the first set of shields is going to dig in and push forward sandwiching these two groups of people together. And it is just a pressure cooker of heat and anger spitting snarling yelling clawing these people are just trying to climb over each other beat down this wall do whatever they can to push through you.
What does Gwen do. Okay. I legitimately didn't know, because as I said in the chat. This is every, like, this is not what Gwen is built for on any level. She is small. She is a striker. She does not have a strong presence, and she's not good at speaking, but I do think that she wants to fix the situation, very very badly, and she would go with Gio low, and she's trying four feet tall to stop these people. And she's just like, stop it stop, stop, and then she's going to activate her iron clad and just lock down in place to try to get the crowd to stop as well, like she's, she's just going to be a part of that wall.
So for everybody out there. The main feature of the steel soul it's not a buy on anymore I found a name that I actually liked is mode switching to take a standard action and essentially change physical properties about Gwen. So, when is going to get taller and beef up, essentially, her tiny body is in a big iron casing her AC is going to improve by five she's going to slow down, and, you know, be almost a mobile, but be right there. And she's going to grow to be six feet tall, technically, she's wearing big boots and like a big old like she's still small.
Yes, inside of this, that living metal is going to react it's like a symbiote, and it's going to react, and you are going to hunker down next to these guys and just dig in. And that's going to be kind of imposing that's going to definitely help. And again, it is just, it is chaos, it is a wall of humanity it's deafening noise, and it's, it's, it is the worst case scenario for someone in your profession, like this is nightmare. Like this is supposed to be something that can't happen. What does Bo do? I think Bo is going to take her halberd and bring it up to, to her and sort of whisper a prayer into it.
And just say, I'll grant me the strength and grace of not needing to use it, and it's going to cast bless on Gwen Calypso and Giolo, because there are squishies. Fair enough. I mean Gwen not so much right now. Not so much right now but that's my little sis I gotta do it. I can't target them, so I'm just gonna say that I did it. I'm just marking down notes you're fine. This isn't combat. Right, but she is also after casting bless gonna try to look as intimidating as possible. Not her strong suit, but it's gonna try. And you have people who are trying to pull down the shields, and it's if they're climbing over each other it's like a fucking zombie movie almost where, but they're, they're mobile, and they're strong and they are desperately trying to like push past you.
And at first, it is. It's just forced, it's just pushing and shoving trying to knock you down trying to get it, then it starts to turn violent, where people are punching shields and clawing and they're hitting them with axes and random like garden implements, or a fucking like then it starts getting nasty, and you're going to look on the periphery of all of these stacked up houses and stuff it looks like it looks like like like a very Brazilian setting where they just keep building. They're going to start to climb on top of each other, and then try to climb to rooftops around you and just kind of swallow.
You hold Paxton, man. So there are there are now kind of spidering on the walls around us. It's almost like water they're they're they're overflowing this damn almost. They're not, they're not behind you or anything yet but they're climbing you can see them climbing. I think. How are the how are the people on the front lines looking they they look like they're being hurt like they're taking damage. They're, they're, they're getting pounded like they're like you're pushing, okay, your group is pushing behind. There are hundreds of people people are getting trampled trying to get to this wall there are people who are like I'm stronger than you get out of the way so they're, they're just like think Black Friday shopping on a grander more violent scale, like, they're actually going towards one direction, like, it's like they're focused.
Right. And, like, the people who are trying to grab the shields. You know, sometimes they let go or they lose their grasp and, you know, the shield snaps back and people are getting hit in the face with their own, you know, weapons that, you know, batons and stuff like that are going over the top to try and, and just like beat these people off of the shields just trying to. It's self preservation. I think, if, boy. I think if I can I'm going to start trying to I'm going to throw cantrips to, to the people on the front lines, I think I want to try guidance.
Aid only affects one person I think I want to give them 10 points or something. I don't really have any any riot spells, you know, I kind of realized that now. Yeah, it's weird. None of you guys built a character to like combat this right. Yeah. Are we thinking. I think I'm gonna, I'm gonna I'm going to kind of get behind the first front lines and whoever looks visibly hurt one of our guards look tight they look tired at all I'm going to try to give them a cure wounds since I'm close to them. You know if they look tired like the guys who look really ragged that has been going through the most of it I want to try to.
And I think I'm going to blow as many first levels as I can. I'm just gonna stand back and watch. I leave you know semi the first, the first row people and just watch whoever gets tired, as much as I can give them that that breath of energy. So with going, going back to the dam analogy you're the one there with a bucket just trying to scoop things and yeah you're just trying to do anything right I'm the guy's. The water. muscle the guy who shot the cannon, but let's not look, we could talk all day about. Okay, no calypso. Yeah, okay. So, first thing, um, and I don't know, I don't know how to not target going to target myself but like when, like, it was saying like okay like I am going to do this and try and talk to people I do want to cast it hits ability on myself.
One sec. I'm going to cast Paxton. What Oh, dummy, I did that. There you go. Okay. That cool, so I can have advantage on Christmas. Smart. Where are you in this situation are you behind the shields or yeah so it's like somewhere like behind the shields going to like find something to kind of like stand on whether it's like a. Just probably like crates and different Yeah, exactly. So it's like fine sounds like a bit above and then, like the first thing I hate to like, because okay like just like starting talking it's like that's not gonna do anything because funeral so the first thing I'm going to start, like, playing like music to try and just like cut through the noise and the violence and just to get people to even like pause for a second and be like what's late.
And so then I can like create like a moment where then I can start to talk and maybe people will actually be able to hear and listen. Well obviously you're not going for a smooth jazz or coffee house style like what what music are you playing to kind of cut through. I mean, honestly I have like press the station and stuff to make it. It's got to be some layman's shit right it's gotta be like yeah like I think it actually is kind of like slow and almost like mournful in the sense that like, yeah. Singing the song of angry Ben. I'm not sure why if Kelsey sings that can they get more.
I'm not, I don't know layman's. Sure there's a violin cover of that song it's probably yeah yeah but something yeah that. But getting back to your check. Sorry Jamie and I are sisters in real life. So, yeah. Okay, I'm not gonna tell you this crowd's gonna die down, but like you are going to get the attention of some people like probably the people who are two or three rows back from the pushing and shoving up front like they're, you know, so yeah that's the point of that like this is not going to disperse anyone just like get attention. First of all, step one and then, like after like a few moments of that, then we're going to stop and look over at some people and they're like making like eye contact with people as they speak and some of you know who I am, and I recognize some of your faces from the times where I've performed up through the city and you know why I'm here in the city and why I tried to join up with firebrand because I see it there's hope here, and the chance to make things better, and this energy this collaboration amongst yourselves is inspired.
But I also don't want people to be hurt. And I don't want. If you. I don't want to see the smoke that I see rising up behind you as our homes are being burned down and with this energy and with working together we can do so much but not by hurting each other and not by hurting ourselves. We can work together and we can do something with this but not, not at this kind of cost. Can I please. I'm going to guess this is like a performance type of thing, like you're like the playing and then. Yeah, yeah performance. Give me performance check. 29. Excellent. Okay, so.
Say the line part. Okay. Okay. So, we're going to make a few checks for you guys. And all of the things that you've been doing are going to be taken into account and be given as modifiers to hopefully push some of this back. Now, if these roles are low enough, it's going to indicate a total failure. If it's high enough, it's going to bolster you and, and hopefully we could get something going here and people will start to disperse. Let's start. Let's start with holding your ground. How well are you holding your ground between between the heels getting dispersed up front, even though it's very sparse and sporadic and Giolo and Gwen up front just holding the line and you got Bo back there trying to like bolster people and, you know, I'm going to give you a plus five.
So on a scale of one to 10. Plus five. How well are you holding your ground so far. An 11. Okay, so you guys. You have not been moved an inch. This is a real 300 situation right now. The problem is this can't be kept up forever. Right. They have limitless resources compared to your third right it is, you know, it is not feasible. So what we need to do is see if the people up front, have been dissuaded enough that the, the pushing stuff like if people in the back are seeing that people up front, aren't pushing as hard, then they're going to take it as there's a reason there's, you know, like there's something, you know, so God here we're going to do with this is just going to be a flat, you know, a flat d 10.
One. Is that even possible. Well, there's one more role. Okay. And this is more of a, like a, like a moral thing right. These guards have other people, just like anybody else, they get scared, they get, you know, and what I'm going to do is take. Take Calypso speech and give a bit of a buff to this particular check, but I want to know how frazzled everybody is at this point. So we're hoping for a, so we're hoping for a low roll on this one. So, hold on a second. The people in the front are not Calypso speech, yeah they're basically not dissuaded at all like they're still, you know what I mean like this.
Because the people behind them don't know that they're dissuaded. No, like they're, they're like they're pushing hasn't stopped basically with a one it's basically like, oh no on a scale of one to 10, they don't give a shit like this is not. So, this table is lagging hard, so let's try this one more time. Okay, that's not so bad. You're gonna get a couple of frazzle people but it's not like an eight. It's a D 10 plus two but didn't you say the clips are negative two sorry, negative two, that's actually a one. Oh, yes, so I'm sorry, I, I was trying to get the table to so I kept doing it over and over and I just fucked it up.
I'm so sorry. So, you're going to get a couple of like, you know, there's some frayed nerves obviously this is a huge thing. And it is. You've probably saved lives already with what you're doing like no lethal force has been used as of yet, no, you know, you're trying to show these people that you are not their enemy, you're just trying to keep them from destroying things. And I would say under the circumstances you've done a pretty good job so far. That check was basically if it was high enough. Some guards were going to start to crack and either flee or flick things into the crowd to try and dissuade them to get the you know I mean like that, but they're, they're, they're holding the ground more ways than one.
Some people who are climbing though, are going to make it to rooftops and some of them are just going to start to pelt you guys with things, they're going to start to some people are going to start to climb down on the other side so it's just too big, it's, you cannot stop them from going through this one area, it's too large a crowd. So, now we have people on the other side of the road pass the buildings, continuing. Just, just passed us they just just they just find the building basically, I would say, every ninth or 10th person would probably try to harm.
One of you guys in the back to try and get you to drop shields to try and, and people are getting zapped at this point, obviously because, so this is interesting, because we usually use these things in a combat situation so it'll zap one or two people does it have a limit, does it can accept so many people at once, can it like it's up to 60 damage or something on that spell. So, someone's definitely going to die. Oh, absolutely. Yes. Yeah. I hope that would be more symbolic. So, there are people coming over us there people climbing the walls, and then there are also people attacking us, but they can't do both, they either have to attack us be stopped by the wall or continue forward.
Right. So, the one out of 10 that are able to attack or get over us. Yes. Then have to split up. If some of them are going to keep going. Right. Yes. It's not, it's not incredibly effectual right it'll be like one person who runs up on the side and tries to punch but you guys are wearing, like, well, right there, they're wearing like especially like Gwen right now but you're, you're armored up like you're not. If we just hold this line. If we maybe Calypso can keep going. If we can just hold this line, then the hundred or so that end up continuing. It's better than 2500 continuing like the.
Hopefully the guards on that side of town can deal with that hundred or so. Yeah, and I just keep doing this like it's unfortunate but I'd rather do that than murder someone. And I would think that work is probably doing something behind the scenes right now, you know, he's not just going to say okay here's some men go go handle it, you know, yeah no that's that's right like there's got to be either reinforcements coming or like some other backup that they're planning on to help take care of this so we just need to hold the line until something. And I would rather they give up.
And that's just Gwen, but I think, okay, so like I posted a picture, but what I imagine when is like she's in this big, not. It's not the penitent engine, that's just one of my favorite Warhammer 40k creatures and it's similar and that she's like in this big she's still this small tiefling inside of that she's just kind of protected. And she's just screaming like please stop, please, and probably crying and just do it like trying to get as big as she possibly can and like a rock hits her in the face and she just keeps yelling at them to stop. I think that's, she's just going to hold her ground and she if she notices that Paxson or Giolo is going to do anything she's probably going to beg them not to, because she doesn't want to hurt these people.
So, I'm unfortunately I'm looking at my spell it does not explicitly say I have the ability to dismiss it before its duration is up. Is that is that a ruling, you'd be able to make that I would be able to I feel like it's going to make things worse not better at this point. Ah, what is the duration. Eight hours. hours or until it uses up at 60 damage. Oh, it's a concentration. No, it's not. Honestly, I think that 60 damage would be used up like quick. Just be out there to stay. Like, what's happened then. Yeah, I mean, it's like damage has been done people are slipping through and it's like boom, boom, boom, like, I think that would make people hesitate.
And then, right, but that's going to be what three people like, yeah, at that disappears and you know people like test the waters like it's an electric fence and you know they see that, yeah. Guys. I think that's a good time for us to stop for the night. And I think we're gonna so much trouble. We're gonna have to figure this out at fucking fairy a thon in front of a live crowd. That'll really help with the anxiety that I know I wanted to get. Can I, okay, let's, let's, let's tackle the elephant in the room because I said so in the chat but I'm really proud of you guys because, look, we all have different politics, we know that this is mirroring mirroring a real life situation.
This is role play. And I'm really proud of you guys for being able to tackle this maturely no one's fighting behind the scenes it's not like it's hard though. It's hard. It's just really, I'm not worried about the cast in fighting I'm more worried about people interpreting things that we are not trying to say on any level. And there's a there's also other elements at work is, is like, number one, we're making, we're making decisions for characters that are oftentimes knee jerk oftentimes in character decisions that that we the player would never endorse or things like that like there's so, so just read the episode as the episode.
Yeah, please, you know right like things that seem wise in the moment can end up having disastrous consequences. You know that that's past midnight on the East Coast. Yeah, I'm sorry, I didn't want to push it this far, I was hoping it's like we're not going to fix this now like this isn't. This is like halfway through this. It's gonna be funny for me to like wrapping this up really quickly and then get to have a conversation as a crew. I'm quite excited for us to get past this though and like just handle some bandit. We need to have some low level bandit.
Well, yeah, we just need to have a sit down as a crew because I'll talk about what that in talk with me about what exactly is branding we need to work on firebrands branding. And I've been thinking about it. And you know what, I think we can save this I think if this goes well. I think the real solution is that none of us have any business working for the town guard period. It was just that the message got skewed. Seriously, and we're not gonna, we're not gonna fight about Gwen is going to invite but I think this can be salvage dice roll it's no one's fault.
Yeah, no, it's the same thing like yeah so I do want to say, that's how we all feel we have to failed missions under our belt let's go. Well, there are some successful ones that we skipped over in that. But like, they were all successful records great don't worry about it. I do want to say like everyone did a great job. Rob I'm really proud of you because like. You had to do some growing slash improv with Gio low, like, this was, this was not a responsibility. Okay, well while Gio low was doing everything I was just saying here like thank fucking God, because we weren't, we didn't know what we were going to do.
So I'm going to go back and everything solidified literally because I solidified but like, well yeah, the secret the secret is just picking something right like like realizing that that it could go great it could go terrible but the worst thing you can do is the campaign for like a D and D. I mean not in life but like right. The worst thing you can do in a D and D campaign is nothing, because then like everyone's like, what do we do, what do we do, like you just heaven forever, right, every goosebumps choose your own adventure, you could turn away from the adventure.
It's like well just go home and then you go to that page and it was like well you went home you dummy this is a three page book. The only thing Jason knows about me is like the guy who will lead me away to the beaten path I will always go with him 1000% the guy leading me away to the dangerous creek whatever I'm. Let's go.
