I'm Jason, I'm the Dungeon Master, going around the table, starting with Jasper. - Hello, I'm Jasper. I play Ruby Pettigrew, the half-orc gear slinger adept.

- And Ian. - Hey, I'm Ian, he/him/any, and I am playing Chimera, the tiefling warlock. - And Susan. - Hi, I'm Susan. I'll be playing Nythera Ryleth, the elven rogue. - And last and certainly not least, Jamison. - Hey, it's Jamison. I'm going to be playing Logrin Crackborn. He is a dwarven marshal. - Do you guys smell that? - Yeah, it smells like garlic. - That's the open road. - I imagine it smells like a few things over there right about now. (all laughing) - I'll never tell. (all laughing) - Yes, you will. (all laughing) - You know, it's so nice to know the man behind the thirst traps, because sometimes an unrealistic expectation for male beauty is presented, but then a man who eats beans and garlic is presented along with that, and it makes it feel okay, things balance out.

- Feels realistic. - Makes you like man all that more. - You seem attainable now. That's the thing. - Good, that's what I like to keep. - That's really what I want, yeah. (all laughing) - Well, we're hitting the open road, guys, and we are on the way to Aubrey. And you know what that means? I need a volunteer for a travel die. - Did we want to tackle something the night before, though? - It's up to you. - Yeah, yeah, definitely, if we can, if that's okay. - Yeah, yeah, let's do role play stuff, yeah. - That night, 'cause we were all having a party, or we're all enjoying, I imagine, it's not quite the orc shindig that we had, but there's been a lot of parties at this place over the last couple of days.

- It's sort of like a welcome, like welcome here. - It's more relief, right? Because it's like, oh, we're off the open road. They're tired, so they're not as rowdy as orcs. No one's getting fucked in a wheelbarrow, but you know. Yeah, but there's a lot of like, oh man, let's raise a glass. It's like, oh man, you know, just relief, yeah. So I think this is probably a good time for Chimera and Ruby, if she's willing to do some drugs. And I'd love to give Nythera and Logrin my best pitch to see if they want to join in too. - Go ahead and try. - I think that's exactly, that's in character, right?

Go ahead and try. - The two of us are probably sitting like having a quiet drink by the fire, so I want to hear, let's get the pitch. - I shifted out of resurrection mode. I didn't need to. Shit, okay. - Well, okay, for context. So, Chimera has some stuff, like we found the lake, let some stuff dry it out, and this stuff is- - Hallucinogenic algae, basically. - There you go, right? - Yeah. - I mean, Ruby just, I'm sure that they've been kind of chit-chatting about like, when's a good time? It's like now or never, is kind of how she'd say it. Like we're, this is about the safest we're going to be probably for God knows how long.

- Mm-hmm, tonight's the night. - So is this something Ruby's been interested in? - I think the more that she has been around Chimera, which has been for the past, roughly the past year, I would say, is that about right? I think in our timeline, roughly. - Yeah, I think so, yeah. - I think this is something that Ruby has not gotten into, like delved and dive and deep diving into it, but I think that she's taken, she's, well, Chimera's rubbing it off on her, probably the bad ways, probably a little bit here and there. Kind of a compatriot, I think she finds Chimera to be like a brother, like a sibling friend, like other side of a coin type of a person.

And this is this kind of thing. And I think the other thing, as much as she hates Kolgoth, like she just does not like this relationship at all, right? As many people don't, but because she feels sibling, you know, about it, right? At the same time, she also gets the idea from Chimera that Kolgoth has every reason for Chimera to stay safe. It would kind of take care of anything that would go bad. So Ruby kind of feels pretty safe. So I think this has probably happened a couple of times. (laughing) - So have you tried different drugs before? - Jasper. - Jasper or Ruby?

- Ruby? - We all know, no, whoever Ruby though. - Ruby, yeah, Ruby, but nothing crazy, just run of the mill type stuff, right? Smoking a little bit of that, or maybe a little bit of this and that was fun, but nothing that was gonna be outlandish probably, right? So, and probably- - This would be the hardest stuff like- - Say that again? - This would be like the hardest stuff you've tried. - Oh, a thousand percent. This would be, Chimera would have to convince her and she'd be interested and intrigued, but he probably at some point, without having to even role play it or roll for it, she would want him to convince her that it was completely safe, that it was gonna be fine, and that whatever happened was gonna be, and she'd be like, all right, all right.

- So what's this pitch look like? You gather the group, right? And like Ruby's on board, but like, what's the elevator pitch for this? - So I think Chimera tries to, like maybe we're all like sitting around, yeah, and Nytheria and Lagran are like having a drink, and I think Ruby and Chimera have already kind of like discussed this, you know, like, you know, now's a good time, so we'll do it, and Chimera's like, let me just talk to Lagran and Nytheria, let me just see if I can get them on board. And so while we're all sitting around, maybe it's like quiet, there's like the din of conversation or whatever, everyone's kind of like thinking about the journey.

Chimera just kind of like goes, well, I know something fun we could do. - Nice little raise an eyebrow. - It's like a couple of like slow burn turns, that never ends the way. There was that one time I woke up in jail. - And he put his hands up and be like, I know what you're thinking, you're already thinking it, and yes, this is a Kullgoth thing, yes, this is something that he wants us to do, wants us all to do, but, and I can assure you that it's 100% safe, Ruby and I are going to be doing it, it's gonna be a lot of fun, I have to do it. Anyway, that's kind of part and parcel, I'm going to do this.

But if I can get someone to do it with me, there's a little bit of a reward, and if I can get us all to do it, there's a little bit of a reward for all of us, all of the fruit without any of the seeds, if you know what I mean, there won't be any contracts or any blow back to any of you, and by the way, if you don't want to do this, that's totally fine, there's no obligation, absolutely none whatsoever, I'm the only one that has to, but if we all do it, there could be something beneficial to all of us, and then he'll come down and sit right next to Logrin, and he'll go, and Logrin, we have a lot, a lot of things to get done, all things that I think we're all on board for, but we need every edge that we possibly can have. Why wouldn't we turn down something like extra power or extra ability or just a better fighting chance out there to see your goal through? (gentle music) - So Logrin's like sipping his drink while Camara's giving his pitch, and he turns to Lilianite there and goes, he's getting good, that's pretty good, how much do you have?

- I have enough for each of us and very small amount, it is supposed to expand the mind and open us up to new ideas, and I think, especially with the laundry list of things that we have to get, why not open our minds up to figuring out how to get those things? We can start figuring out new ways and seeing what works. We really wanna think outside the box, this can help us do that. - By the way, really quickly, Ruby is, all while all of this happens, she's not looking at anybody in the eye, she's just letting him do his thing, but she is working on tightening things and with little gears, she's got little tiny tools, she's got something that she's really working on, she's just gonna look up at Logrin, catch his eye and say, "Hey, thinking about thinking outside the box, "I'm trying to get the pin whorls to work, "I can't figure out how to do it, "figure this might be my trick." - Tell you what, you two do it, we'll keep an eye on you.

If it opens up some new ideas, maybe we'll try it next time, but let's wait and see. - Fair enough, that sounds good. Nythera, he does the thing where he pats Logrin on the shoulder and gets up and does a spin, and it's almost like he's spinning and then the next shot cut, spins down next to Nythera, it's almost like he's transcended space a little bit. - You get there. - Yeah, you're like, "Whoa." - The other side. - Yeah. And he's like, "Nythira, I know you've lived "a very full life, done a lot of incredible things, "wouldn't you want to say that you've tried everything, "done everything?

"Make sure that in your very long life, "you don't leave anything scratched off your list." Nythera's gonna get a wry look on her face and then lean over to Logrin and tilt her head. Yeah, he's getting good. You think I've gotten this far by dulling my senses in a crowd of 16 strangers in the middle of nowhere? I've lived my reckless phase, Chimera. You go have fun, I'll make sure you're safe. Okay. He pats her on the back and spins again and then spins right next to Ruby, just kind of like where he started in all of this. - Well. - And yeah, and he'll pull out the dried algae and just kind of like measured.

I think like, 'cause I think what's really important about all of this is that it is safe. Like Chimera wants to do this and he wants everyone to do it. And he wants Ruby to do it, but he wants to, and I think he spent a lot of time while we were doing downtime, like trying to make sure it was safe dose-wise and everything so he would pass a little packet to Ruby, just kind of like, "Oh, you know what, actually." - He would pre-measure it, ooh. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. He would like, suddenly a tarot card comes out of his hand and there are just like two little things on it for him and for Ruby.

- She's gonna stop whatever she was sort of screwing and tightening. She's gonna look up and catch Nythira in Lagrin's eyes. She's just gonna say, "He is getting good." And then she's gonna grab the little packet and close up shop, put a couple of things into a bunch of other little pouches and whatever. And she's got a necklace, by the way, that it has like a locket type thing, but it's actually like a little multi-tool. So that's what she's always using as she's tightening up things and working on her equipment, which she's always doing. I won't talk about it much, but in any moment she has, she's constantly trying to upgrade and iterate on some stuff.

Anyway, she's gonna get all that taken care of in a couple of seconds. And then she's just gonna stand up, hold her hand out to help him up and then just say, "Let's do it." And then I'm guessing they've talked about this. They're probably gonna go into a tent together, not like go off into the woods necessarily or something like that. (all laughing) - If we do not wanna do that, holy shit. - That's the last we see of them. - Yeah, exactly. - Gotta find two new crew members. - Hey, Grimble made it somehow. - Grimble, you're on deck. - Grimble doesn't do drugs.

That's how Grimble made it. - Grimble has plot armor. - Yeah. (all laughing) - He's not Batman. Let's not, sorry. - So yeah, I'm sure they've sort of planned this all out. So they're just like, "No, we'll be back. See you in the morning." And we just clink glasses and go back to what we were doing. - Yeah. - What are you guys doing? Like if you know you're hitting the road and this is your last night in civilization for probably two, three days, depending on weather, like how are you prepping for that? - Well, I think the prep probably would have been like accounted for beforehand, like even from the Winter Haven trip, like bed rolls, winter gear, rations, all of that is like set up.

But I think in this moment, Nightheara knowing that we have some downtime, especially 'cause we probably both want to stay up to make sure that they don't in their drug frenzy, just run into the woods. - Drug frenzy. - It's free for madness. We don't. - Bad trip. We want to make sure this is a good trip, not a bad trip. So Nightheara would probably want to keep logging up too. And so she would kind of like probably broach the subject 'cause having traveled with him for what, three years too. Oh wow, wow. Yeah, three and a half years, having traveled for three and a half years, she'd end in a moment of silence goes, "So are you okay with us going to Aubrey?" (soft music) Gotta be honest, no, but we got to do it.

Less I see of anybody there, the better. I left 20 years ago and I said, I wasn't going to go back till we had this figured out. If I go back now and they see me there, it's going to be like I admitted that I couldn't do it. So we go in, we find who we have to find, we get it back out again, not there to say hi. Someday, hopefully not too long, we'll go back and it'll be with good news that they can all go back to the mountain. But if I go back now, it's going to be just to tell them that nothing's changed. - Well, we've made progress. Plans in action, everything can happen.

- They might not see that and I'm not going to try to convince them of it. So best case is we get in and out without them knowing that was there. Worst case, somebody sees me and we've got to talk about it. But I heard you were pretty sneaky. So I've delved in a time or two. I think my daughter left, put some hair dye in my pack. We could give you that. - He thinks about that. I don't know, that seems extreme. - I mean, your blonde hair is pretty bright. Kind of gives you away old man. - I can just get a hat. - What about the shield? I don't think the hat's going to go on the shield.

- Well, don't dye the shield. - Not what I was saying. - We can put it on the sled. - Oh, we're taking the sled? - Well, I mean, not like the dog sled, but didn't we have a sled that we brought all our gear out in? - Like a pull behind basically the wagon almost. - Yeah. - Yeah. - We just throw it on the sled under a blanket. - Okay. - Yeah. - Well, Khymera and I will make sure you stay hidden. Him with his disguises, me with shadows. - You got to understand it's bad there. I mean, it's good there. It's nice, but if we do anything out of line, it's going to be a problem for us.

So we're all going to have to be heads down. We'll let them work this out tonight. And then we'll, you know, best behavior once we get in there. - We're going to have to keep an eye on the kids. - They'll be all right. - I remember being that young. You just, you think you could get away with everything and they mostly can. They're good. They're good at what they do. - That's why they're here. - So let's do some drugs. Let's just... (all laughing) - So you guys go into a tent. You get comfy here. - Oh yeah. We've set it up too. Like Khymera has spent some time, like making sure this is like as palatial as it can be in the, you know, in this like fort, this fallen apart fort.

So basically you're taking these pre-measured, you know, these pre-measured doses you have, right? And this is, it's almost like Tinder. Like it's so dried out and, you know, when it touches your tongue, it absorbs all the moisture in your mouth and just dissolves. And it is the most bitter, disgusting thing. It is rancid tasting. Cause it's kind of take whatever you think, dirt and grass and stuff like that, but also kind of a fishy aftertaste, almost like it produces a smell in your mouth that sticks with you for a while. You know what I mean? It's a real beans and garlic thing.

Like it's, yeah. Oh, so it's delicious. Right. Delicious. Can I get each of you to give me a constitution saving throw, please? Oh, sure. Sure thing. I knew this was coming. Yeah. Like you, you, you, you know, you'd notice it. So you sit here for a while and you're kind of waiting to see if this kicks in. This is the first time either one of you have tried this particular, this particular drug. So you're kind of waiting to see like, what, you know, what are the effects? Like what, you know, how does it come on? Is it strong? Is it, you know, and you're, you're feeling pretty warm.

Like you're, you're noticing that. And that's something you notice pretty quick because it is not warm. So the second you're like, Ooh, okay. Like you're just kind of like undoing your, your coat or something a little bit. And you're going to start, it's almost like someone's fucking with the saturation knob on the world. So the hue of skin is going to change a bit and snow, the, the outside kind of goes from like a, like a white to a blue and like, it's catching it. Like you're, you're seeing colors differently and you're, it's like, Oh, that's probably it.

Like, you know, it's pretty, pretty quickly you go, Oh, okay. That's all right. That's, that's good to know. That's a good start. And the more you check stuff out skin specifically, each other's skin, your own skin, you're going to see it ripple. Like it's the surface of water. Like when you touch, like when you touch it or like when you just when you touch it, but there's, it's almost like a, like a perceived stillness, like a, like a, like you get, but you still know, it's like, there's so much going on underneath. And like you, you know what I mean?

Like, it's like, it's, it's you're, you're having a time. And it, you know, as this goes on, this is going to kick in fully about 30 minutes after you take it. And I need each of you to give me one more con saving throw, please. Okay. Okay. Okay. Well, we reversed inspiration. I'm going to get a nap. So again, this is a perception altering and I would say you, you know, you were under the effects of this stuff, but there's a difference between knowing you're under the effects of this stuff. And there's layers to it, right? Like you go, well, the color thing. Yes. But the fact that I can taste bees, that's definitely not the drug. Like you're just, you know what I mean? Like it's, it's fucking with you. There's an irrational part, but can't really tell which one's real. Yeah. Yeah. And it's, it's like if you're drunk and you think you're, you think you're pulling it off and maintaining.

Yeah, probably not. Chimera is like, is like trying to play it very cool as always. And he's just like, Ruby, have you ever thought about making your hair even redder? I think it would look great. But at the same time, like he's just like, like he's having a normal conversation, but he's also like heavily petting a pillow or something. Like, really, really weird. You know, there's a point because strangely enough, Kolgoth hasn't gotten involved in this at all. And you thought for sure, like, but you can tell he's very happy about the situation because he gets to benefit from the social interaction, the experience without having to actually do it.

He feeds off of that and. Not a jerk, but a leech. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But every once in a while he'll do something where it's like, all right, fine. But, you know, so I want you guys right now to each roll a d6, please. You got it. Six, five, five. Okay, so this is going to affect you both differently, right? So for Ruby, it is going to sound like Chimera is speaking backwards, almost like there's so much distortion and reverb. So he's like, you ever look at your hair look great, and it's going to sound like that. Like he's like, it's like, like it's just and it's the consonants.

You can't explain it, but every time he hits like one of those sharper consonants, it's like someone's doing that shit on your forehead, like flicking you. And it's like, so as he's speaking, like you're trying to, like, focus on what he's saying, but at the same time, like, and on. Chimera side, it's going to feel like everything in the world just makes sense. Like, like he's got it figured out, finally. Yes. And it's like from and from a wisdom standpoint, like it's like, but it's that faux pothead wisdom of like, man, if we all got rid of money and just traded vinyl, everything would be fucking better, man.

Like, it's like, that's not sustainable, Gary. And you got a fucking like, you know, Ruby Ruby would have in the midst of that, Ruby at some point would have when you're talking about her hair, she would have just kind of got on her knees and sort of straight over at Chimera and grabbed his face like, and just stop. Stop. Stop. But not even angry, just kind of lovingly asking you to stop really intensely. Yeah, Ruby, of course, I'll stop whatever you need. I mean, maybe that's what you maybe that's what we should do is just stop. You know, Logran is like, he's like going after this huge plan.

But if you just if you just stop and if you just get rid of the mountain, it's fun, right? No mountain, no problem. It just makes sense. I know you follow me on this. Yes, she grabs the pillow. Yeah. Try this one. It's very good. Sorry, Jason. No, not at all. This is fantastic. I want this to be the rest of the session. I on the outside of this tent, you guys can hear this. No insight is gained from hearing this, but everyone's had everyone's had this experience as the designated driver or the friend who needs to, you know, the friend with a higher tolerance or whatever.

You're keeping an eye on stuff and you're listening to these profound conversations that, you know, will lead to nothing. We should start a band with these types of conversations. I have been told my head was growing before someone. That was fun. Cool. Rough night, but not for me. This is going to go on for a couple of hours. Now, the good news is during the next day, you are going to feel like you were kind of you were kind of training with weighted clothing because all of a sudden, respectively, but respectfully, Ruby. Any charisma based skill you use tomorrow for the entire day, you're going to get a D for expertise die whenever you use them.

Nice. And any wisdom based skill for Chimera is going to get the same thing. Nice. Yes. I love it. Just the whole day. Like it's so when you wake up, you're going to realize, OK, blowing up the mountain probably isn't the way to go. But I do feel like I'm seeing things in a different perspective, like I'm you know what I mean? Like I'm I'm you know, so some of that, maybe not off the deep end that much, but it's like, OK, we can't we can't just get rid of all commerce and trade vinyls. But like, you know, I got a couple that are worth something. You know, you can kind of.

Nice. I would like to point out that Chimera and Ruby wake up neatfully tucked away in their bed rolls. A glass of water next to them. Yes, that's good momming right there. That's just perfect. Yeah, but Logrin is the one who did it. Yeah, my point stands. That's what I'm getting at. I think that's yeah, at some point when it gets quiet in the tent, we just sort of like give each other a look and like put down our books or whatever and like go in there and like, oh, look at them. They're all they're both hugging that pillow hard. Ruby just has a pillow. Face in her hands still.

And they're just like, they'll sleep like that. Yeah. And then we saw it from the outside, but there was like something sticking against one of the walls of the tent and they both have their feet up against the tent wall. Grimble would be concerned, but probably weirded out and just like. Yeah, he didn't know what practice sparring was. Yeah, no. Yeah, hopefully he took none of those drug induced ideas as instructions. He understands he's in charge while you guys are away. I think that's well, he probably he was. He's the only one here from the original group.

Then how dare you? Team Frostborn. Like he's there. That's what I say to to Mimo, our dog, whenever we leave here, we go out, always say, all right, Mimo, you're in charge. Pippin's the man in the house while we're gone. Like, yeah, that's that's how we. Same vibe. Makes sense to me. Guys, are we ready to travel? Yeah. Oh, yeah. How's the wake up from this? Or are we feeling just completely refreshed? Those are about completely refreshed. You're still sleeping relatively outdoors, but it's definitely there's no hangover from it. Yeah, probably some weird dreams, you know, but like not scary.

Weird. It's more like the kind of dreams where you're just at the DMV, but you don't know why you're not even in line. You're just present. You know what I mean? Like that kind of weird shit where it's like, huh? I guess I could leave, but like your brain hasn't prepped anything. It's like, oh, I didn't make anything outside of this. So we're just here. Enjoy the holodeck. So like, yeah, you're you're you're probably it's more like, man, last night was weird, right? And you definitely remember everything that happened and the feelings and everything. But it's very difficult to describe what a color tastes like unless you're from the 90s and it's blue.

But everything else is, you know. Yeah. So you guys know that there are things you could do while traveling the road. Before we get to our travel die, is there anything you guys want to do? Cover your tracks busking busking was a big one. And it's it's are you taking dogs with you or are you just like. I think you can't do for rhinos. So yeah, I think we know dogs. No dogs. Yeah. Just a little sled. OK, we're keeping a low profile is the whole point, right? We don't want to have dogs housed at the gates of Aubrey. Do you do you well, how how how many days is it going to take us to get there?

Well, let's check the weather. Can I get to D6 from Ian? Yeah, you asked. Yeah, I mean, couple of D6. We're looking for a low roll. Oh, OK. Gotcha. The higher the roll, the greater the chance that it's going to snow and the harder it's going to snow. Here we go. Yeah, this is just doses like like light flurries like you're fine. This isn't going to. Yeah, the wind is even. So honestly, you guys are about a little over 20 miles outside of it, outside of Aubrey. So you're you're probably looking at like. Three days tops, but probably two. OK. Unless anything terrible happens, but probably not.

So I go back to my original question. You guys want to cover tracks, do you? Do you want to do you don't have to we can just get going. I think maybe I'll scout. OK. Anybody would think. I think chronicling is probably a good idea for Logran. Map out the the road. Yeah, I don't think we want to cover our tracks at this time because the two major cities are Winterhaven and Aubrey, we probably want foot traffic coming from those two places. Yeah. Is there an option for paving? Can we just pave the road? Yeah, but it's real slow. Yeah. I've watched Cars. Yeah, that's a documentary, basically.

Yeah. Give me a perception check, please. Yeah, that one's going to fail. That's a nine. But nothing happens on a failure. You just, you know, hey, there's more snow. You know what I mean? Like you just, you know, I I feel like Ruby would probably try to scout at some point. I don't know if that's if that's OK, but I wouldn't mind trying. Well, if you're both doing it, you can add a a D4 to that one. An expertise die. Right. Here we go. What am I doing? Tell me what I'm supposed to do. Just give me a D4. I gotcha. Hey, that'll do it. And that just means the party automatically learns one region which joins the current region for each day spent. So, yeah, that's that's yeah. So we got our due diligence, like we're doing what we're supposed to do right for this whole thing. Yeah, honestly. Yeah. So one thing about this area is there are a lot of hidden caverns. So people used to use those as places to stow cargo if they thought that they'd be attacked or something outside of a city or if they didn't want to, especially in places like Aubrey, because Aubrey checks cargo and goes through it, making sure you're not smuggling in weapons or drugs or something.

But people would stow stuff in these little these little nooks and crannies and say, hey, exactly, you know, this many miles out it longitude and latitude. Boom. Go there and move away the snow. And there's a you know, so every once in a while there are little telltale signs and the savvy among you might be able to spot an old cargo drop. Could be some secreted away booze. There could be, you know, may not want to take that into town. No, but yeah, but you know where it is. So oh, yes, it's still here. That means someone's dead usually. So have we found one of these or we just have the option of being able to find one of these things?

propelling herself up she's going to use it as a springboard okay and when she does she's going to do a little bit of a twist and try to come back down so she's going to be very acrobatic of this not just like a jump up and over but just like it's very fluid they've been working on this they've been doing this kind of thing every once in a while probably for the last couple of years but it wasn't until now that she was able to get the her velocispring boots to to to manage this properly which is what she's been working on by the way so this is going to take an acrobatics check number one just to even see do you want to start there see if this even goes further than that is this baked into the mechanics of it well yeah i mean this is a move i mean it's actually not baked into as a combat maneuver what this is is she's going to jump on the shield just as a move and she's going to try to get above this wolf because if she can attack from above she gets an expertise die at it well here's
