What Happens

The party, hired by a priest to investigate thefts in Aubrey, tracks down the culprits—a group of young thieves including Vetti and her crew. Rather than turn them in to the church's deadly Heralds, the party decides to take the kids under their wing as apprentices. - Let's do that thing where we go around the table and introduce ourselves. I'm Jason. I'm the Dungeon Master going around the table starting with Ian. - Hi, I'm Ian. He/him/any and I am playing Chimera, the tiefling warlock. - And Jameson. - I am Jameson and I play Logrin. He is a dwarf and he is also a Marshall. - I thought you were going to say warlock. - Surprise! - Twist! - And Susan. - Hi, I'm Susan Spinnator. I'll be playing Nythera, the elven rogue, who's not a warlock. - Yet. - I almost said Kogoth will get in you and that's not what I want. - Hang on, let me write that one down for the rest of you.

- And start over. - If he's not already in you, he'll get in you. - Let's talk about consent. - Consensually, consensually. It's all contractual. - And Jasper on that note. - Oh boy. - Jasper will get in you. - I'm Jasper. I play Ruby Betagrew, the half orc, gear slinger adept. - Well, we're still in Aubrey, but I feel as though we're in the wrapping things up section because there's, so you've already gotten a ton of information, right? Just a brief recap. You talk to Eb Stonesunder, you've got a lead on a couple of different people you can go speak to.

You have a Stonesunder if he doesn't have a horrendous concussion, but dwarves are tough. You checked out the stacks, the vaulted library. You have a bunch of stuff there. You have a fan club somewhere in Aubrey. You have a favorite restaurant already. We spoke a lot about food in the... - That was so much fun. I had so much fun when we were doing that. - But every once in a while, I'll make a place and it's like, I kind of wish that really existed. Like I kind of want to go there, but I'll talk myself into it throughout. It's like, that sounds like a nightmare, but I kind of want to go.

- There was, not to sidetrack us, but there was another restaurant where I was growing up called Pizza and Pipes. And that's exactly what I was picturing because it was like pizza and then everywhere there was just like shit on the walls. There were like organ pipes everywhere that were blowing bubbles. There were like trains running across the ceiling and like stuffed animals on like trapezes and shit and all this kind of like motorized like garbage everywhere. But it was amazing as a child. - Are you sure that wasn't like a Nyquil hallucination?

- Either way, I had a good time. - You talk to your family, you remember pizza and pipes. It's like you were very sticky and we were sharing it for many years. So I asked the group this, what are we feeling? What do we want to tackle today? You have your gems, you're doing pretty well, but some would say you're reaching the point where you're pushing your luck in the city. - Well, we're also, I mean, we're trying to fly under the radar. So the longer we're here, the more chance there is for a kragborn to be spotted basically. And that's not what we want.

- I have a counter. - Oh boy. Oh my God, you do. - So yeah, we need to get out of here. I don't know. I feel like there's, Ruby would keep asking when are we going to find Vetti again and her friends? 'Cause you've got a fan club here in Nythera. - Yeah, I think we're wrapping up. Like I think we left off stacks and we were just leaving, like leaving there. And then we got to go return the medallion, which includes fan service. - How's about we get the party back together here and it's getting to be like dusk. It's getting late. So you were kind of given a meeting spot, like you know where to go.

How do you explain this to the group? 'Cause like they know the bare bones of it, which is hilarious, of course. But like, is everyone going? Is it just you? Or like... - Nythera would want to go alone. I don't know if the group will allow that. - No, not at all. - Hell no. You think I'm not going to watch that? Are you kidding? - And the mask, Nythera? The mask? I mean, don't put it on out here, obviously. - It's usually very taxing to wear this, but I won't activate it. It's finer qualities. - Well, yeah, we don't want you to kill the children. - We don't want that, right?

- Ruby hasn't answered. She's considering it. We haven't met them. We don't know, but they should be fine. - I know that I shouldn't be saying this, but I would much rather discourage them from following my path. If you guys could assist me with that, I'd appreciate it. - Oh, like a scared straight kind of thing? - Mm-hmm. - You guys all walk in and spin your chairs around backwards. - Yeah, right. - Do you want to know what it's like to be an assassin? You're somebody's bitch. - Yeah, right. - Ryze could be more shirtless. - Wow, he ripped, absolutely ripped his shirt when he did that.

That was weird. - That just got me braided in the funny bone. I don't know why. - I am always up for a bit of mischief, as you all know, but this is not the town to encourage that behavior. I'm sure you could back me up on that one, Logran. - Honestly, the whole thing feels like it's going to take a while. So whatever we do, we got to get a move on. Yeah, yeah. - Their kids, they want to kill people. That's great. We got to go. - I don't think they want to kill people. What I think they want to do is meet a person from an amazing history, right? A legacy.

- A legend, a legend, yes. - That's not saying much for what they're going to do for the rest of their lives. That's just saying that they appreciate interesting histories. - And you can persuade them. You don't have to persuade them against being trained killers. Just persuade them to get out of Aubrey. - Actually, that's kind of a bigger point. This place is truly filled with a bunch of sticks in the mud. Maybe this is their way out. They don't have to follow us, but they don't have to follow this place either. - With the exception of bonzos, there's not much fun to be had here.

- Oh my God. We're going tomorrow morning before we leave, right? - For breakfast. - That's what I mean. - Yeah. - I think they're booked up. I've got to check. We'll see. - I'm sure they'll take us. - I don't know. We'll see. I don't want to get your hopes up. - Okay. Well, I'll see you there. - Shit. This is just Jasper and Waffle House. This is... - Yes. 100%. - Well, I'll be there. - Yeah, no. - Well, let's get this over with. - It's going to be fun, but Ruby's kind of bouncing. She put her hands on Night there as shoulders and sort of behind her bouncing. But this is going to be great.

It's going to be fun. They're going to love you. They're going to be great. And honestly, it's just a way to say bye to Aubrey to us. - All right. And then she'll secure the mask on her hip and reveal this. Tucking it away, you see it almost looks like a plague doctor mask, but it's in the shape of a raven and it has raven feathers on it. And it's very highly sculpted with some like tints of lighter gray, but it's now on her hip and it's usually never seen and always hidden. - Ruby will take a closer look at it really quickly because she doesn't get to see it very often.

She probably has a couple of times just for whatever reason, but she's going to look at it and look up at her. I think Megan would lose her mind if she saw something like this. - Let's look more people in. - Let's get this over with. - While you guys are walking, right? Aubrey's the kind of place where there are people everywhere and they are parts of the city that are very much like when you go to the mall. You remember back when there were malls and it's not the stores that are on either side. It's the people in the middle selling, you know, hand lotions and things like, "Miss, miss, miss, come here." They're constantly trying to like suck you into their orbit.

We had one grab Brie once and just like put lotion on her hands and we're like, "Okay." - You lost the sale. - Wow, that's aggressive. - Yeah. - Quite, yeah. So you're going to see a lot of people. There's a lot of charity, a lot of community outreach, which is great. You guys specifically are going to stand out to this person. And there is a priest that is going to kind of like, while you're securing the mask, like kind of eyeballing you. It's like, "Sirs, madam, may I have just a moment of your time for the church, please?" And he's kind of like walking with you backwards, "Please, just a moment." - Lagan's very much like head down.

He's like, "No, we already give twice a week. Time to go. We got to go." - Oh, this isn't about giving. This is a paying job. We can pay you. You look like adventurers, right? You're not from the city, is what I'm saying. - Can at a glance, would we be able to tell what denomination this man is representing? - So give me, you know what, give me a religion check. - I've got those. Well, I sort of have those. How about a two? Who is this Jesus Christ? - I don't know her. - Not with that role. - Not a two. - I think Lagan's gonna keep his eyes down the entire time and he's gonna look up and just see, "A priest." - Basically, he's like, "Whatever." - Yeah, it's like, "Aye." But the guy seems friendly enough.

He's not, you know, but there's a tinge of desperation in his voice. If you can walk with us, you got until we get there. - Oh, fantastic. Thank you so much, Mr. - Start walking faster. - Like he's gonna like double step. It's like, "I'm priest Duralin and the city's facing a bit of a problem and we actually need outsiders to deal with it. We need your expertise for some..." You're very fast, Walker. "We actually need your expertise to deal with something that is a bit foreign here in the city at this point." Again, we're willing to pay. Whatever you think this is worth, I'm sure we could negotiate something.

- We're gonna need some specifics. You're running out of time. - Like he's getting out of breath a little bit. - So is Loggerd, he can't walk this fast. - Just dragging the shield the entire time. - Well, we're actually trying to flush out some people. There's a criminal element in the city and we're trying to find them. We actually think that we have one of them, but we're unsure. Our heralds are very good at enforcing the law, but they don't really have a lot of experience outside of it, if that makes any sense. I don't mean any offense. - What do you mean you have one?

- Oh, well, we have someone who surrendered and we're speaking to them now. So we're... it seems like a group of ruffians or bandits. Muscular types. - He turns and looks at the group. He kind of makes the "eh" face. - Are you stopping? You're still walking fast. - Yeah, well, he has to slow down because he is not capable of turning, making the "eh" face, and keeping that pace up at all at once. Can't do it. - Knight the Eret to the priest is gonna say, "So what exactly would you want us to do?" - Well, you'd be consultants. - In what capacity? - All right, to the point plainly.

Adventurers need to make difficult decisions on the road. I'm not here to judge. I'm all about balance and order, Sir Rod's will, and I understand that in the course of survival, certain things need to be done that would definitely be illegal in the city when all of your needs are taken care of. But on the road, it's different. We think there are some individuals from outside the city who are temporarily in the city, and we need someone who thinks like they would. Someone more survival-based, you know? - Like outsiders? - Outsiders, yes, thank you, Sir.

I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name. - Ah, Kamira. - Ruby's gonna smack him on the shoulder. - Oh, I'm sorry. I had something in my throat. No, uh, Daniel. I like that you picked a name that doesn't even kind of sound like... - No, that was just my cough. - Would that be a deception? - Yes, but very low. Very low check for this. - Daniel. I'll roll it. Here we go. - This is not an excellent start, gang. - Hey, that's a nine. - That's a nine. He rolled a three. His modifiers... A nine is good enough. Like, he's not. - Oh, you know what? I forgot. Hang on. I do have expertise die with that as well.

- Okay. - I can't just roll a d6? - Just roll a d4. - Yeah, d6, baby. - Oh, shit. - So that's 14. - Yeah, that's way better. Daniel, I'm sorry. I misheard you for a moment. - Yeah, something in my throat. Something about the incense. - Ah, yes. - There's a lot of it. Even as an outsider, you can appreciate that we're trying to keep peace in a world, frankly, gone mad. And this is really undermining the church's work. Three homeless people were robbed last week, it seems. And they're visitors of a shelter of ours, and they told us that their few meager possessions were taken.

This is the kind of thing we're dealing with. We're not sure if they're doing it for fun or profit, but he's basically at a point where he's like, "Ah." - So you just need a translator, sort of, in a way? - Or do you want us to find them and bring them in? - Would you be willing to find them? - Well, it all depends. - Obviously, we'd pay you more for that kind of service. - Right, right. Exactly. - I'll be honest with you. And he's kind of keeping his voice down. The church is willing to pay top dollar as long as the situation gets dealt with. - Not in a violent way, of course.

We just want these individuals brought to justice. - Peace. You want peace? - Yes, that's all. We just need it to stop. - Yeah, where can we bring this information if we happen across it? Who can we bring it to? To you, and where can we find you? - I work in the church, usually right within the first few halls. I'm facilitating guests, and I am, well, usually. I'm here to answer questions from believers and non-believers alike, but we've had many complaints. Stores have broken into and things of that nature. I've been fielding these kind of questions recently.

- Got it. Well, we can find you in the church. Tell us what you know, and we'll part ways, and we'll bring back whatever we can. - Well, every one of these things, it seems to be a great deal of strength has been put into it. We imagine that there are a few burly individuals, very in shape, muscular men. - Say more. Go ahead. Go on. Say more. - Glistening. We would guess glistening. Perfect. - Describe their deltoids, please. - How many abs are we talking about here? - What are the gutters like? - But we're guessing they have a few members that may do magic or are incredibly stealthy.

Some of the security systems were sophisticated and expansive, and we're still trying to figure out how they defeated them. - Last known location, where you think they might be, anything like that? - Well, all of this took place in the merchant district, and there doesn't seem to be any connection to the stores that we can see. They all sold different goods. So far, it's only been three shops and, again, a few homeless individuals. - Where can we find the people who are robbed? - Well, it's a little difficult. They usually do come down to the shelter once a day, so for breakfast, usually.

I can give you the location of that. - We're going to be busy at breakfast, unfortunately, but you did say you have one of them already? Maybe we could just... And she's going to side whisper to Logger, maybe we could just talk to the one he has and see if we can round this up. I mean, a little bit more gold's not going to hurt us. - How much more gold are we talking, by the way? - Well, if you'd be willing to at least lend us some assistance questioning the individual, we'd be willing to pay you upwards of 2,000 gold. - Rubies truly would grab Logger and Shoulder like, "Holy moly!" - So if you caught the individuals and brought them to us in a peaceful manner, we'd be willing to pay you 10,000.

- Hm. - Ruby will swoon slightly and hold on to Logger and Shield. - Nythera in Orcish is going to say to Logger, "I know we're short on time, but that's a good amount of gold." - When Nythera starts to speak Orcish, Logger looks at this guy. Does he have any clue what she's saying? Can I do like an insight check to see if he understands? - Yeah, give me one. - Okay. - Nythera would be checking too, so... - Yeah. - That's a 17. - It doesn't look like there's any recognition. - If anything, he's being kind. Like Orcish is a physical language, so there's a lot of like, like it's kind of daughterhood.

- Very surprisingly come out of the elf too. - So there might be like a moment where his eyes go, and then like he just kind of like focuses back in, like he's asking, "Oh, okay." - That's different. - He did not expect that. So Logger will reply also in Orcish and he'll say, "Something doesn't feel right, but we can look into it." And then immediately after that, he'll switch to common and he'll put a hand out to this guy and said, "We'll look at it for you. We'll see what we can do." - Oh, bless you. Thank you so very much. I knew you were good individuals the moment I laid eyes on you.

Thank you. - We do need a down payment though. - Well, I don't... - Expenses, getting around the city, that kind of thing. It's fairly common. - Oh, Pertium. Oh, well, I have money in my wallet, I guess you could have. - Yeah, we'll take that. - That'll work. That'll be fine. - I'm short, but I can dangle you upside down by your ankles. - Oh, this hurts me, but this is what we would do. - So he would take out... It's like, "Here's a couple of hundred gold in coin. That's all I have. I can get more from the church and be reimbursed, of course, if you're willing to meet me there later this afternoon, I can get you the rest if you'd like to...

That's all right?" - Of course, yeah. - Is the person you've got right now, are they at the church? Is there a place where you're holding this person there? - It's slightly off site, but yes, our paladins are questioning him now. - Yeah. - They don't have a light touch when it comes to getting information, and it's a bit difficult. - Yeah, we're gonna need to go talk to him. Let's go do that. Can you take us there? - Oh, yes, absolutely. Do you still need my money? - Yes. - Mm-hmm. - Oh, quite. Yes, of course, of course. I think to how many times this has happened over the past eight years with Ruby and Loggerin, and then Neithira and Loggerin and Ruby, and then Chimer.

This has happened so many times where it's just, yeah, we're gonna need a little bit of your cash. This is how we've kept going. - This is the scam. This is the short-term scam. - I want a short record of all of the pens you've stolen from in-laws. Just like on purpose. Like you have a plethora of them, and it doesn't matter. Fuck 'em. - Just hotel soaps and hand towels. - Oh, yeah. - Yeah. - If there's a robe, that shit is gone. - They charge you for it now, if it's missing. It's on the bill. Yeah, so we're gonna follow this guy to wherever this one extremely muscular individual is being held.

- Okay. - Extremely attractively muscular individual. - If this guy isn't a nine out of 10, I'm gonna be, we're quitting right then and there. - Yeah. - Okay. - If he's not glistening. - Yeah. - Yeah, that was probably glistening. - Gotta be glistening. - Yeah, yeah, that might be from the blood. - They come through with a mister every once in a while. They keep it real damp in the dungeon. - See, I was expecting oil. I guess water will do. - Well, they can anoint them with holy oils. Like, they need that too. Like, if that's your thing. - They're gonna let us do that.

That's part of it. - Well, I would imagine they have, like, just like in the vegetables part of a grocery store where they have the mist. It's just, I mean, it's holy oil, right? - Like you're in line at a Universal Studios or something. - One moment. - I just got an idea for something, and I wanted to write it down before it's gone. - I was worried they were gonna have neti. I was like, oh shit. - Yeah, yeah, that's what I was worried too. They were gonna have, like, a bunch of kids. - Oh, thanks. Yeah. - So this priest is going to lead you back. It's a long walk.

The entire time he's probably rattling off all the functions that the church is getting ready to do. There's a pancake jamboree next Sunday. We're in the midst of, like, the entire itinerary. There's an ice cream social we're putting on, that kind of thing. And just more than he's proud. More than he's proud, not that he thinks you guys are gonna convert or you're gonna stay or whatever, but just it's like, hey, this is the kind of thing you're helping us to do. Thank you so much. Like, very proud of the work the church is doing and stuff. And eventually you're going to arrive at this massive-ass church.

And slightly off sight from that, there's a building and then a set of stairs down. And every doorway, there's gonna be at least one of these heralds, right? Silently just standing guard. And every time he'll like, he'll wave and just greet them, like, hello, and take you in. And then every time you walk through a door, he's going to shut it and then lock it. So it kind of feels a little claustrophobic for the crew, I would imagine, like a little, you know. All right. I don't think he wants to talk to me. He told me he didn't want to talk to me actually a few times.

So can I leave you in his care? I assume. You should definitely leave. Yeah. Okay. All right. All right. I'll go get the rest of your money. And thank you. Okay. Well, and he's going to open the cell door and there's a large room larger than you would expect. It's more of an interrogation room than a cell. But there is a gorgeous young man strapped to a chair, like hand cut, like shackled to it. Right. And he's going to usher you in and then he's going to shut the cell door and lock it. And he's going to kind of just, you'll just hear him, like, walk back down the cobblestone hallway.

And yeah, this kid looks like he looks he's this is a man, obviously, but very young. Like you're guessing maybe 21. Are there any heralds in here? Is there's nobody in here? Okay. No, but they have been. You can tell that kids bruised up. Yeah. But not not to an excessive degree, but they they they laid hands on him a bit, you know, kind of a swollen jaw a little bit. He's got this long, dark hair that kind of cascades over his back and shoulders. And it's kind of sticking to his chest because he's glistening so much. Right. And the torchlight is just catching every every bit of sinewy muscle.

It's lean muscle is what it is. I'm getting very Winter Soldier vibe a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. Or like any scene in Desperado. Oh, my God. Yes. So as soon as the door closes, like Lagram takes a look around the room and like if this kid says anything, he just for now, he just ignores him and he goes and he turns to the others and he's like, let's take a look, see if anybody can hear us. Like and this is probably a typical thing we do, too, where we look for any kind of obviously traps, any kind of like listening. Yeah. Like whatever. Yeah. Check in for bugs, check in for anything magical.

You know, we have a sweep that we do. I imagine. Yeah. Yeah. This is like a choreography. Probably every time we do something similar. I look for magic stuff for sure. I look at listening devices. I'll categorize this into two ways. Let's check for traps and and we'll check for arcane stuff. So we got the physical and the the manifesto. So, Susan, give me give me the physical. Give me a trap check. Give me investigation. Yeah. How about a dirty 20? So this appears to be a regular stone room. It's very no frills. There's no windows or anything. There are torches in the walls.

There's four of them in the room, two on either side. It's not like the place is overly cold or anything like that. If anything, it's a little warm in the room, hence all the glistening. And. Can I get that arcana check, please? Yeah. Nice. 17. So you are going to pick up the heralds who are, you know, like out in the corridor at the at the at the certain points in the hallway, but they're nowhere near here. You're not picking up anything magical in in the room, except except this one weird little bit that this guy has like a tattoo on his right forearm.

And that has some kind of magical quality. You you can kind of feel it, but it's very mild. It's it's it's it's weak. So a lot of people get stuff like this, especially when they're younger. It might move or, you know, shape shift or something like that kind of light magic that's etched into your skin like a like a living scroll almost. Oh, gotcha. OK, so it's like a cosmetic. There's like a sort of like cosmetic. Yeah. Stuff going on. Yeah. I go over and and like as I'm sort of like sensing this, I go over and and just sort of check it out and like see what it is just to get like a closer look at it, see maybe see what it does.

If I can even tell. So as you as you get closer, like the guy's going to like look up and he's going to like he's clenching his jaw like you're going to hit him like he's just getting. You don't look like a herald. That's because I'm not instantly suspicious, like instantly. OK. A nice tat. Can I see it? Yeah, I'd lift my arm, but it's, you know, just kind of like do that. That's kind of shackled to the chair there. So but like, yeah, he'll turn his he'll turn his arm over and I try not to touch him. I just try and like take a look at it. And so he's got this bad ass displacer beast, like it's a little mural thing on his.

Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I want this. We all we all join his gang. That's it. Yeah. That's OK. New plan, guys. New plan is going to be rad as fuck. Yeah. Is it is there is it like a discernible like like a symbol for a gang or something? Is that something that I could recognize or is it just like a cool design? Like when you get like a dragon there's do you have any street wise? Do you have a little any expertise that would lead to? OK, what about I don't think so. Give me a history, but it'd have to be real high. OK, that's fair. It's not going to be, but it could be.

Yeah, no. Well, that's a four. Well, honestly, to you, this looks like a piece of art. Usually gang symbols are easy, quick to scroll on something or leave your calling card. This looks like a little like it looks like the side of a van in the 80s. Like this thing looks fucking cool. Like this thread and awesome time, right? Multiple visits. We're all just gathered around his tattoo for like, oh, that's sick, man. Shit. Would you? Who did that for you? Wouldn't I fear I'd know it with our criminal background? I get I think this you would be even more sure that's like that's not a gang tat.

That's like. You know what I mean? You had an artist draw that you paid a commission like that was, you know, like, OK, I was done with the ballpoint pen and a paper clip. Yeah, that's that's it's not a logo. It's you know what I mean? It's too unique. It's not something people would get like, oh, we'll slap this on you. It's like this is like four or five visits. He had to sit in a chair for a while. Yeah. Yeah. Great ink. Absolutely love it. Nythera, Ruby, could one of you maybe get his cuffs off? Ruby's immediately trying to take care of it. What should I?

Are you guys breaking me out of here? What is happening? Looks like you need some help. We are very legally extracting you. It's OK. We got paid to do this. He's so suspicious right now that it's just like, look, I know it's a lot. It's a lot to take in. You've obviously taken a few hits, but if we do this right, you won't have to take any more. And you don't have to trust us. We're just going to get you out of here and you can be on your way. But you do have to tell me who did your your ink. OK. Yeah. I don't get it. I'm going to level with you. I don't get this.

You're my friend shit after the last two days. I I came here and they've been they've been treating me like I, you know, I'm a criminal. Yeah, but like they've been treating me like I was on the run and they had to come find me. I don't get it. Oh, you got one or two choices. You can stay here or you can come with us if you really like getting the shit kicked out of you. We can just leave you here. That's fine. All right. OK. Yeah, sure. Fine. Yeah, please. If you can get these off me. Yeah, there we go. In a situation where there are no stakes, you don't have you're not under the gun.

I would imagine you could just get these cuffs open like. Yeah, if it's. Yeah, something tells me that this would be real quick and easy for Ruby, not if this again, if there were stakes, that's a different story. But this is just like, oh, these are she even probably reckon it. Oh, this is this kind of right. I've seen these before. Click, click, click. OK, there you go. Yeah. All you had to do is just click, click, you're done. But you should have been out of here yesterday. Yeah, exactly. And he's like instantly just going to like start like kind of massaging his wrist, kind of like rubbing that.

Oh, God. OK. Where are we going? And find the rest of your gang, get the get you all the hell out of here. Yeah, this is not the place for you. I mean, it's not the place for us either. But the thing is, it's a bunch of sticks in the mud. You don't seem like a stick in the mud. You actually seem kind of fun like you tap. Yeah, I can't do that. All right. Time back to the chair. What the hell? Look, OK, hold on. You guys seem nice and I thanks for not hitting me. I really appreciate it. I can't do that. I can't. You know, I can't. I can't do what? And he's he's going to look around like he is checking to see if someone's listening in or something like that, like he's trying to look over at the door, the little part of it.

Look, I OK, I surrendered because. I just told him it's me like it's just it's me and they're not they're not buying it and I can't. Having the last couple of days to think about this and see how they treated me, there's no way they're not going to kill the rest of them if they find there's no way. Well, that's exactly what we're trying to prevent. See, they're already looking for you and your friends, and it's likely they're going to find them and kill them. So that's why we want to get you and the other people you're with out of here. And you swear and he's like, like.

Really focused, direct eye contact. You swear. That you're going to help him get out. Ruby will lean in. You saw it go ahead. Sorry, I was just going to cross my heart and hope to die. That Ruby will be leaning in and she'll say, honey, we're getting paid for this. Really? Either way, we're helping you out. You're helping us out. OK, fine, but just. All right, can we get out of here first? Can we just like Yeah, we're going to talk, but we shouldn't do it here, so. Let's get going. Is there like any indication that there's this guy's stuff is anywhere? Because he's very glistening and it's very cold outside, so.

They tore my shirt. I love that. Very aesthetically. Shame. Absolutely. Shame. You guys wouldn't have an extra shirt or anything like that. I could. Sorry. Nope. Shirts are illegal now. I don't know if you knew that. I got all this extra oil that might keep you warm. If it's thick enough it forms. Terrible. Terrible. This is just pornography. Oh, my nipples are so cold. Oh, we're going to have to. You should be glad pants are still allowed, Adam. Yeah. There's a bill. It's circulating around. We're waiting to see if it gets passed, but. Who knows? So if. Yeah, I mean, if all this dude has was his shirt and that's gone, then we think we can just try to get out of here.

And I think what the plan is, is just to open the door and the first herald who tries to stop us, we just don't like the name of the priest and be like, he told us to get him out of here. We got to figure out where the rest of his gang is. He's going to show us. Yeah. We beat him real bad and he was willing to show us. You guys are definitely on the right track with that. That's good. Great job. Use a phone book next time. Sackful of oranges. Yeah. Hey, what's your name, by the way, as they're going through door or whatever they're doing? Felix, you. I'm Rebecca.

She's looking at Chimera. He rolls his eyes and he's like, Daniel. And the other ones you don't need to worry about. That's probably for the best. So does anybody like stop us on the way out or do we just get clear? Oh, well, it so. So the Heralds know what's going on, right? They're they're kind of constantly being fed instructions. They're not going to stop you. However, every single one of them, as you walk by, like their heads just almost unnaturally turn and watch you like security cameras the entire time you're walking, almost like if someone were to, let's say, mentally send them a signal, you would be cut down well before you got outside.

Like that is their that is their vibe. Yeah. Yeah. So since we've been in town, Lager and has done a very good job of barely acknowledging these guys. Like, I feel like he's got a pretty good sense of of that sort of uncanny valley ness to them. So he's very good at treating them basically like they're just they're drones, you know? And so he ignores them completely. So. If somebody else wants to, that's fine. Logger and will not explain a thing to this guy until we are like blocks away from the church. Yeah, no. And you'd basically be walking back the way you came like back toward the merchant district, like it's one of the outer rings and yeah, like it would be it'd be a long walk.

And he's completely uncuffed, right? Yeah. Yeah. Logrin, do you want me to stick around to collect our payment and then I can come meet you later? Well, we're not we don't got it yet. Right. We got to find. Oh, he was going to get the money. Yeah. I'll stay with come here. Daniel. Guys, we're really bad at this. Yes. So he looks annoyed because it's like shit. Yeah. He did go get to go to get more money, didn't he? Honestly, if you just run back in, just like run back in and grab it like you like the priest wasn't hesitant at all. He's taking you guys. So we'll wait.

We'll wait just beyond the building for you to run back in and finish fleecing this guy and then we can go. Sounds good. I mean, after you get done stealing from the church, we'll move on and. Oh, are we like in the church, too, or are we like in the big church? It's right next to it like that. The whole dungeon portion is near, but not in the church. OK, gotcha. So, yeah, if you run back like you find the priest, he'd be like, oh, did you get any information like he would be, you know, very curious. We are we are going to we are we have an excellent lead and we're just going to take that and take this this very gracious per diem that you're giving and utilize that to get you the peace that you desire.

He's he's going to take you to the gang. He's deep. That's the plan. Great job. Great job with the roughing up to. Excellent. Really softened him up. That helped. I that is not my call. It's not how I would like to do things, but I know I understand either. It's I know. But you are doing a good job. You have done a great job. And as he's like taking the money in his hands, you are doing your Lord's work. I I haven't taken my money out of that yet. So here just just. I know that's fine. That's good. No, we'll we'll you know, OK, we'll take this. You get you get reimbursed by the church.

The more that it helps us, the more we can help you. Do you know what I mean? All right. I cannot thank you enough. Seriously, this has been weighing on us very heavily and we, quite frankly, are not equipped to deal with such a thing. And he's going to grab your hand and he's going to take off his his necklace. It's a pendant of like Surradd's, you know, emblem, and he's going to place it in your hand and he's going to hold like clasp his hand over yours. I, I simply can't I simply can't take a token of of this of this grace. Please. I think it'll keep your group safe on your many, many travels wherever you go.

I want you to know that you are always. Always welcome here while he's talking. It is burning your skin just a little, just it's not it's like, mm hmm. You're hoping it's like, yes, thank you so much. Can't wait to get back out there. Gonna gotta go. Thank you so much. Thank you. Spicy. He's gonna he's gonna he's gonna like, like keep his hand there just for a second and then like give a prayer. I just think that's odd. I didn't I didn't think we were making lunch. I smelled ham. Oh man. Great. And let's see you later. There's like the tiniest bit of smoke. Like just it's so faint.

Like it's like, yeah. Someone's burning sage. Now I want to know what it was specifically reacting to. Was it reacting to the fact that we're actively conning this guy as he's giving us a little bit of everything like it's that is so good. That's amazing. So while we're waiting for them to come back, since we're in the market district anyway, logging later takes them to like the first tailor and like buys this dude just to set a close, like, preferably something with a cloak so he can hide his handsome ass a little bit. Like, Jesus, put that away.

Holy shit. Very noticeable. Stop it. But like one of the good ones, not like Liam. Like, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. He's doing his best. Wait, is he not? I mean, ask Miley. She might have some things to say about Liam. Cyrus? Really? Yeah. He cheated on her. Nevermind. Fuck that guy. He'll never be the Witcher. That's that's that's. Yeah, no, that he's not one of the good Hemsworths. And you know that song Flowers? It's about him. It's great song. I don't. But OK, I. Yeah, shit. And there's Hemsworth sponsorship. Well, it's just Hemsworth. Hemsworth was. I'm sorry. I feel that felt bad to say.

I didn't like don't cheat. Yeah, that's all. Just don't cheat. It's so easy. Yeah, it's right now. Look, not cheap. Look at that. So simple. So I buy this dude a cloak and be like, take that rip shit off. Come on. A little self respect. I really appreciate it. He's going to cover up his rock hard nipples and just like, just let me help you hang on. That's increases. Let me just get those out for you. Aren't quite even so oily. Yeah, you're soaking through the shirt. Jesus Christ. It's a big stain. Yeah, you're just you're you're just doing it with your hand. It's not a hamburger on the paper.

You know, it just shows. Oh, it's not sexy anymore now. Can you do an oil chest on the shirt that feels not everything could be for Ian. We got to try to pay everybody in the audience. Did I mention he's a shark man, too? I don't know. That's for some. It came back to Ian. Yeah, there we go. So while Logran is dressing this man, because I've decided that he's helping. So he's and he's kind of keeping his voice down, too, because I was in a busy market area. And this can be once everybody's returned. So you're you're covering for somebody. Yeah, I mean, yeah, I just look.

If I thought these were bad guys, I would. I don't know. I probably still wouldn't tell you. That's a bad example. But they're not they're not bad. They're just. Bored, I think. I know, I know they're bored. Same. Oh, my God. I completely get it. This whole place, you know what? It's warmer. It's really nice, but it's like I just want to just I want to put graffiti up or something. I don't know what it is. I just think covers around. But I'm good at it. I'm totally good at it. I would imagine. Imagine Nightheera and coming back and I toss this, I toss this necklace tonight there as soon as we get away, I'm like, how much is that worth?

Well, considering he gave it to us for free, I'm pretty sure they're handing these things out like candy. Maybe I can turn it into something. And then I can turn it. Is your hand burnt? Yes. Don't worry about it. The second Nightheera gets a hold of it and looks at it, this thing is made of pure silver. Oh, it is not candy. It is not it is. This was an heirloom. She's gonna say oh my God. That much of a sucker. Yeah. Yeah. I take it back. This is pure silver. Oh, OK. All right. We're making we are making out here at Aubrey. I'm actually loving it. Great food. Great ambience.

And we're making money. And you have a fan club. I this is starting to feel like one giant trapped me. I get a niche. We got to get out of here as quick as possible. Oh, hey. Hey, guys, what's up? You might smell ham. I hold up my hand and there's just like a burned like thing of the of that emblem in there. She's not going to go over well with your boss. No, I think you liked it actually a little bit. I wish I didn't bring it up. OK, so he'll try to refocus on this dude and be like, listen, we were hired to find your friends and bring them in. Obviously, I'm not turning anybody into them, but we can get you out or away from this or just teach you how to hide better.

I don't know what helps you. Look, OK, I'll level with you. I'm I'm ready to just call it quits and get out of here. I am. I've lived here for six or seven years. And look, when I was younger, I did dumb shit and I just I don't know. They don't they don't play with you. They kill. They will kill you here. And I just there's no future in it. There's nothing. Yes. I'll tell you what. You said you got paid, right? Maybe. Give me half of it. Give me half of it. I'll I'll get them out. I'll take them with me and we'll leave. You never hear from us again. Night years. Going to ask him.

Well, first, she's going to say under a breath to chimera. They put a shirt on him and then now he just makes like a good as he now I got to look at his face. It's pretty good. But then she's going to say to him in the group, is one of them named Betty? You met her now, Ruby? I knew it. I knew it. And she's going to like look up to the sky and then like put a hand to her temple. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Hold on. Hold on. How do you know where she helped me out earlier? So and then she's going to like side to Logran and be like, so we should help him out there to help her out.

She's just a kid. If you say that to Logran, he'll be. Yeah, they're all just kids. Like that's that's the point. I look, we all hung out together. And then when I was old enough to get a job, I got a job like some of these kids come from decent lives. They just don't want them. So they're breaking into like their grandparent shops and shit for practice. They're not taking anything. They're just what they already know, half the security system. So it's not like it's it's they're not wizards. They're just that they just they got to get out of here. They're not going to stop.

How about and again to Logran, how about we send them to the fort? Maybe my daughter could get in touch with them. She has a she has a group of thieves. Maybe teach them some stuff. Fort seems rough for a bunch of kids. Also, Logran's thinking they're a bunch of thieves. I don't want to send them to our for. But we make them work for us. I know. Well, oh, you can send them out on like mobile game missions. Like it'll just be like a time thing. They get a chance of success. Yeah. So you kind of just like choose his lip a little bit and looks around and says.

Well, they can't stay here. I agree on that. Let's go talk to him. Turns out we're heading there anyway. Felix is going to grab chimeras like hand real quick. Oh, and just kind of drag his arm over and hold his forearm up to yours and his tattoo is just going to kind of leap over and it's going to it's going to change to like a map of like where it is, like where you need to go. They don't oh, they don't listen to me anymore. I guess I aged out. But just do whatever you can. OK, just give them money, give them a ride out, do whatever, just get them out of here.

OK, and I'm leaving tomorrow, so. Just good luck, all right. Where are you going? Yeah, you're not leaving with them. You're not going to guide them. I mean, if they'll follow me, sure, but they don't. They stop listening to me a long time ago. Hmm. Sounds like they're part of your family, though. I think I could get them to listen to you. She has a lot of sway, I can tell you that much. Are you related somehow? How do you how? I got the feeling you just met and there's this deep personal connection. I remember for years. Just so your name's Felix, right? And she's going to start walking in the direction of where these kids are going.

I'm like having him come with. OK, we're going to act like we've known each other a while, Felix. OK, OK, why? Name's Nythera. You could call me Raven. OK. I'm still Felix. I like I like he doesn't. There's no like big click moment where he's like, oh, yeah, no, he's just Nythera is mine. What's going to happen is she's going to go to these kids and be like Felix and I go way back. Listen to him like, oh, simple as that. Yeah. Ah, my pal Barney here says, yeah, exactly. Today's number is twelve. The age of some of these. So he's going to take you down some some alleys and then there's a ton of piled up crates and barrels and stuff and just kind of slip past them.

And he's going to grab Khaimera's arm and hold it up to a specific piece of the wall. And it's just like this faint glow and a portion of this brick wall is going to slide over almost silently, but it's got a little like to it real quick. When we start to get down into these alleys, I would like it if because my theory and Khaimera are upfront with Felix as he's leading us. Can Ruby and Logran work together to make sure there's no tails on us? Because I have a feeling we might get being tailed. Sure. Yeah. OK. So what's Ruby's perception? Oh, she's a plus five.

Oh, shit. Yeah. Then you can make the role assisted by me because mine's zero. Logran's like, I don't see anybody. We're fine. I got you. I got you. So with. Yeah, it's an additional plus one, two for my tag team of my team. OK, we're OK. Yeah. It would appear. That this priest trusted you so implicitly, like there's no there's no part of it. It's nice that, you know, these these outside, they're not from the city. They don't have any vested interest in this place. But I'm hoping that by telling them all the good that we do, the shelters and like the like, there's we have 100 percent orphan placements, like we don't have orphanages.

We don't like it's like we're doing the best we can. I hope that inspired them. And they're potentially callous ways on the outside world, maybe are warmed slightly when they look down at that necklace every once in a while. God, he's a doe-eyed idealist. So, yeah, there's no one behind you. Like you couldn't be less tailed. Like you start turning it into a game, be like, all right, well, if we were being tailed, they'd probably be doing it. There should be one there. There should be one there. There's fewer people than there were before. I don't understand.

OK, so, yeah, they do the secret door thing and we and we. Oh, and come here is like, oh, that is cool. Yeah. Rubies all over it. Yeah. Yeah. And and there'd be there'd be a part of Felix's. Yeah, I did that. Nice. Yeah. It was almost a decade ago. It's nice that you're that unimpressed like that, like she does a pretty good showy, but yeah, it makes a lot of noise, but whatever. Maybe 40, whatever. So, yeah, he's there's like there's a bit of him that's that's a little proud, but it's like, yeah, it was like 10 years ago. I could do a better one now if I wanted to.

But, you know, come through, come through, Felix. And there is there's like this this thin staircase like it's it's it's. You could tell that this wasn't like a planned city thing. This is like a makeshift clubhouse like brick, brick, brick thing. So it would be easy to trip and fall, but it's only about like 15 feet down. So it's not terrible. Oh, God. It's treacherous for anyone over 25. Yeah, yeah. Basically, yes. Anyone with bad knees, anyone with it's like this steps are a little too close together. They're a little too, you know what I mean? Just it's like.

At the top, Night there is going to hold back Felix and say, we're going to bring up the rear. All right. We got to make an impression. OK, all right. Then she's going to take out her mask. Yeah. Get behind me, Blackbird. So are you like a theater performer or something? Is this like are you famous? Something like that. And then she's going to pause for a moment before she puts the mask on and like let out a big sigh. Look at it for just a moment too long and then put it on. Not like activating it or anything. You just know, no, no, no, no. OK, OK. Daggers everywhere.

This is Logan berserker rage. But she also has an infinity scarf that's actually like a fit for form fitting face masks. So her face is completely covered. OK, so she's covered compliant as well. All right. That's great. Nice. OK. So after these stairs, this is a sewer. This is very much a sewer. And there's a there's a thin river of black flowing through here and and then like he's like, just just hold back on the side. So there's rats and stuff like that. And as you walk down this this echoey hallway, you're going to hear like. Not quiet discussion like.

It sounds like. It sounds like us talking before the session about fast food, like it's that this is super important, but not really so like. You're going to hear them kind of like. Not even trying to sneak or whatever, and then as you round a corner, there's like this beat up old table and a few wooden chairs, and there's a couple of kids sitting at when I say kids, they're like everyone in the room. There's there's four people in the room and everyone is between like 13 and 17. Like they're they're kids, right? And. If you all walk in, there's a moment where there's there's a kid sitting on a crate in the back and he looks to be the oldest and he's going to draw a knife, like thinking that you're you're you're raiding the place you're walking in or you're bandits or something like that.

And he's going to like motion towards the door. It's like, get the fuck out of here. What are you doing? What do you like? Get the fuck out of here and what are you doing? Or just like they're piggybacked on each other. Like he knows he's got to do something, but like too many things at once. Oh, sweet summer child. Susan, what's the full what's the full title of Night Eros? Like what is it in Elvin? She's Raven's Breath. That is her title. But like what you're doing to like what's your you know what I mean? Like you want to be impressive like with that Tataroc.

Yeah. I don't know what would Raven's Breath be in Elvish? Whatever you want it to be. It's not a real language. Sorry. Oh, you said Elvish people. Yeah. I thought you said it once. I could be misremembering, but I thought there was like a fancy Therian word you had for it. I could figure out based on words that I've done before, if you want. I didn't have one. Let me never mind. Don't worry about it then. Don't even worry about it. Yeah. Chimera is going to walk into the room and do a little like there. He's going to do a little press to digitation. So there's like mist that comes out and like it's just sort of like falling out of his robe.

So it's like princes walking in? Yes, but he's not doing it for himself. He is making atmosphere. And there is some small lights that are going to come out just to like give that like glowy feel, you know, purple and dark kind of feel. And he's going to say, put away your blade for that may be the last time you have it out, because who walks among you is none other than the famous assassin. The one who stalks the shadows, the one whose name we do not know because her very existence is nothing but a mere whisper on the wind. You will not know her before it is too late.

She will be at your back and her blade in your belly. Raven's breath now comes before you. And he'll like make a big gesture and like sweep so that smoke like swirls around and like frames perfectly Nythera in her in her mask and like the lights will twinkle down around her. So Susan, this is your hell, right? Okay, but Nythera is going to she has to embrace this in some capacity, so she will use stealth. So she appears as if in the mist. But in her head, she's also sighing. Yeah, because from your end, you're a party clown like you're like, it's like in Ghostbusters two where they're performing at children's birthdays.

Like it's it's like I saved New York, man. Like, you know what I mean? Yeah. So I was thinking about this for Nythera before when we first were introduced to Betty. I think it's kind of like a Spock. You know, he went through a period where he loves Spock and hated it for a very long time, didn't want people mentioning it. And then towards the end, he was like, OK, it's a good part of my life. I guess I could give it to the theatrics of it. I think that's where Nythera is. She's like, I'm old, whatever these kids want to kick. I could I could give them a show.

You should probably reassess your heroes, but you know, I yeah, it feels very much like somebody who once had a Super Bowl halftime show is now working like Vegas. Yes. Yeah, I could do this, I guess. So. This like. This kid with the knife is going to kind of lower it for a second, like as you're introducing and like when when I hear walks in, there's going to be like a moment, the twinkling lights and everything. Bullshit. That's just some chick in a mask. Look, I don't know what very page you is, is pathetic. OK, have him do a dexterity saving throw.

Oh, God. He's dead now. He's dead. Well, this is with a plus zero, so. 13. OK. Respectable kid. Yeah. But you do to him like, what are you doing? Like he's going to disarm him. Oh. I think while so like, OK, he's not looking at like he's he's more looking at chimera, right? Because it's like he's waving the knife like a pointer. This isn't this isn't a combat veteran. This is someone who has a knife and can't wait to do things with the knife, whether it's knife things or not, you know, probably all the time. That kind of kid, you know, he does the butterfly knife thing.

Oh, yeah. Yeah. It's like, when's that sharp enough? It's never sharp enough. Like it's that kind of bullshit kid thing, you know. And what do you do to take it out of his hand? Like, what do you like? I just want to step forward really quickly, like using my dexterity just to like quick step and then like. Grab his wrist real quick, but in a way that trips him up and hold it back at him, but not threatening more like a like holding it and like two fingers back to him, like I think this is yours. Oh, OK. Completely emasculate him. OK, good. Like right in front of his crew.

OK, so like that, like he'll just get like mid sentence, just, you know. And like his eyes are like. Thank you. And like take back the knife very gently. Lagram in the back goes. I make a raven call that's like. Now it's an always sunny in Philadelphia bit now. It's got reverb on it, so it's very spooky. It's very spooky. You're going to get a side eye from night here. Too much, too much. All right. Dial it back. There's a there's also a Goliath in the room and you can't you can't quite tell what age he is, but he looks he looks young. But this kid. Thought that was the wall.

Oh my God. So like, yeah, this deeply pale kind of gray kid, like leaning against the wall, almost drags like and like he'll react like when you looks like you might stag stab him, but otherwise just kind of sitting back with his arms crossed because he's probably used to hearing this kid like talk a lot like that type of thing. The girl at the table is almost going to fall out of her seat. She's got her feet kicked up these big oversized boots, feet kicked up on the table, almost falls backwards. And that's what he's going to walk into the room from another room.

It's like like like. There is three solid seconds where nothing that the kids taking back the knife. It's like, oh, my God, you came. Oh, God, guys, guys, guys, guys, guys, guys, guys, like just there are noises for several seconds before any exposition, just like jumping up and down, like that. Yes, there you go. Squealing, I'm not capable of that kind of joy. I've heard it's possible. Yeah, I've seen movies. Yeah. And she is going to run up to the big kid with a knife and like shove him back. I told you, I told you and like point back at you like. Your proof of Bigfoot, like that's it.

And like from like nowhere, she's going to like slight a hand, pull out that medallion and like drop it like so it drops in front of Nettie's face, you know, like and then she'd like, I believe this is yours. There's no words, it's noises. It's it's it's. It ranges from high pitch to frequencies a dog can hear, then high pitched again. So like it is a spectrum and she's going to say, thank you so much for coming. Like she'll get close to you. So much so big. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. She doesn't sound unlike Grimble at a certain point.

There's a bit of goblin in there. Logrin leaves. No, but he does. He does take that opportunity when she's at her peak in gratitude to clear his throat. He goes, all right, well, since we're all feeling real glad, we have to talk about what is going on. You guys got to either cut your shit out or leave. So. Vettia look at Logrin and then look at Nightheera like, I don't like dad's answer. What's mom got to say? Like like very it's like what? What's he mean? Well. If life. In the shadows is something that does call to you, this is not the town for it. I, I, well, I don't know what you mean anyway.

Why would you think that we're doing something in town? Logrin points at Felix. He says they've been beating the shit out of his beautiful face for two days because they're onto you. So you're going to get caught and you need to stop or you need to go somewhere else. This is not the place for this. I'm from here. I get it. There's better ways to do this. So Vettie's going to look at Felix and there's a split second where it's like, you fucking narked on us. Like there's just a split second. And then it goes right into, they've been beating the shit out of him.

And his gorgeous face is marked up. Like it's his beautiful, beautiful face. And that'll take a backseat to like those assholes. I can't believe they did that to you. And like, she's going to run over to Phoenix, Phoenix over to Felix and just kind of like, like she's kind of mad at him, but also just like, why did you let them do that? Why didn't you just tell them where we were? If that's what the, you know, that type of thing, just like yelling at him. Chet is going to move forward. Chet is feeling brave again. Okay. I don't know who any of you are.

I know bird lady from stories, whatever. I guess she's kind of fast for being how ever old she is, but me and my crew are going to make a name for ourselves here, because if we can do it here, then we could do it anywhere. So, but you can't do it here. And he points to Felix's face again, you're getting caught there. They're finding you. I mean, just Felix got caught. He's, he turned himself in to cover for you. And there's this moment of realization where, fuck, like, you are this close to getting yourselves murdered and nobody's going to find the body.

You're going to make a name for yourself, but it's just going to be names on a tombstone. If you're lucky. The, the Goliath is going to like kick off the wall, like stretch and move over the kids like six, one, like he's, he's a big, I would like to hear it. It's like a door falling on me. And he's got this deep gravelly voice and he's gonna, he's gonna walk over to log. Do they know where we are? Just matter of time. And he's gonna, he's gonna kind of look over to chat. Put it this way. They hired us to find you and we're not turning you in, but then if we walk away and you guys keep this shit up, the next group will.

And it took us, he looks around at the other three, 10 minutes to find you guys. And we were taking it real slow. So Chad is not in a place where he's, Oh, they beat the shit out of you. Oh no. It's like, well, you fucking, he led you right to us. So he doesn't, does he know who you are? Like he could have just fucking come in and murdered us all. And he's gonna, he's gonna point to the, the Goliath. Look, this guy's the youngest among us kind of like slap his chest. Like it's just like, there's no give in it. Like it's like granite and even he's ready for what we got planned.

We can get out of here tomorrow. One more night. That's all we need. To do what? Chad's going to clam up a bit. Why do you want to know? Aren't you retired or something? Did you get a pension? He's got, he's, he's, he's, he's a dickhead a little bit. Like he's got, I'm 17 and fuck you energy. Argan's like doing the like, Oh, I look at, I look at night here and I'm just like, I'm just like, and I shrug and I'm like, they're probably just rolling over some other market stalls or something like that. Again, real small time stuff. And they're going to get killed for it.

Hey, fuck you. You have no idea what we're going to do. We're breaking. And like, he almost says something and the girl in the back with her feet kicked up is going to like push off of the table and just kind of like slap her hand on the things like up, up, up, boo. And she, she looks to be half of this, this deep, like dark purple hair in a, in a braid. And she is going to walk up to night there. It's like, it's great to meet you. I've heard a lot about you that he's told me nothing, but stories about you for the last six and a half months. But I mean, even I was kind of going back and forth and say, she really, she not, but it's very nice to meet you.

Please ignore chat. He's a dickhead. And just like kind of hold her hand out for you to shake. Night there. We'll shake it. Pleasure to meet you too. Aura. So what's your plan? Okay. Is this going to be a thing where like, we tell you about it and then you want in and we got to split everything because we kind of want all of the credit for it. It's just, it's not like, it's not a greed thing. It's not really about the money. It's about the reputation. And if we have like a legend on our crew, it's like a ringer, you know, infinite patience. I don't think you get it.

All of you. This is not the town to make a name in. So far beyond, beyond Vetti, Aura is the only one that has social skills at all. Like, and even that is a little, it's a little choppy. It's, it's, it's, you know, there's still a bit of like, I'm 15. Fuck you. Like just a tiny bit, like not, can we do it? It's when we do it. And, you know, if, if you guys help us, then you'll get the credit for this. It's not, we could die. It's not, it's like, well, we're going to do, there's no thought of failure, a failure state of any kind. And Aura's going to kind of take a step back.

Look, look, most of us don't really have anything to go home to. We were thinking about leaving anyway. And like, we can go anywhere we want. Like we don't have a lot of, Vetti's got attachments, but like fucking Basilisk over there. And like, she's pointing over to the Goliath who was somehow closer to Logran this time, like just a little bit. He's like, he's checking out your shield and like, clearly it's like, this is nice. Like he's like, he kind of makes these affirmative noises of his like, and he like, he'll give it like a little swing, like a little boom, like just kind of like, this is good work.

Like just like he's, he's admiring it. Can he send like, now he keeps like just checking to make sure he knows where he is. We don't, we don't have a lot to go home to, so we're fine with leaving. We just want to leave with like a business card. We could show people like we did this. So why not break into the church? Why not steal something from them? They got things, they got plenty of things. They're not even going to miss it. I feel like there's a bit of a big part of stealing stuff is to not have people know that you did it. And there might be a flaw in the way you're approaching this.

I mean, we want some people to know we did it. So you don't want anybody to know that you did it. That's kind of the antithesis. There it is. That's the antithesis. We'll keep it whatever we'll do it live. It's the opposite of what you want. Exactly. Yeah, there's a reason why most of you in this room didn't know who I was. That's how good at my job I was. She's going to say something under his breath. And if you'd like to roll, you can definitely like there's because there's a part of him who wants you to hear it. Like he's an asshole a little bit. Yeah, I'm going for it.

Seventeen. I want to hear it. Is it perception? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sixteen. Oh, yeah. So, OK, Nithea and Ruby are both going to hear it. It's just like, yeah, because our parents weren't even fucking born yet. Like, just like it's just, you know. True. Just say it like he's out of line, but he's right. Yeah. Like before your grandparents were even born, like. How many are well, so come here is going to come here is going to he doesn't hear this, but he's he's like. The way to be the best thief, he's right. Nobody knows who you are or how you did it, and people already know who you are and how you did it, and they've got a bunch of them looking for you.

How many? Of those, what do you call those big people in armor that are all around here, here in Aubrey, what do you call them? Three of them will speak at once. Heralds. Heralds. Right. And how many Heralds do you think you can take? That's the first moment where even Chet would be like, I don't know. The only person whose expression does not change is is Basilisk, and he's he he was like, two, three, like, like he's just kind of two or three. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. And you you look like it, too. Well, they have three times that many stationed around looking for thieves, looking for you.

Ah, Chet's going to speak up. OK, first of all, who knows us beyond you and fucking rat back there? Like, did you tell other people? No, you left evidence all around. They told us. They told us a bunch of kids. They told us they were small. They told us they weren't very skilled and they're leaving all kinds of clues and stuff like that. They just needed to find where you were. We've been here for two days and for two different reasons and two different people were in the same room. OK, look, just because Vettie can't keep her mouth shut and has this hero complex for this old woman doesn't mean the rest of us are out looking for people to invite.

And that's at that point that he's going to spin around after checking on Felix and they'll get into like a yelling match, just a shouting match back and forth. They're the two oldest in this room. And there is there is a clear divide in leadership, like there is a disagreement about how things so that's probably what you heard coming in. And this would go on until they were interrupted. So I want to I want to pull the room here. Guys, huddle up. I need collective decision making. How should Nythera put this kid in his place? Which kid? You talk about Chet?

Yeah. Yeah, Chet. Oh, gotcha. He needs like a show of some sort to prove to him that he should listen to us. I just don't know what to do. Out of character real quick. Do you guys remember Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2? Where they do the bellies? When they put the bells on what is it? It's like a Christmas tree, right? And then they throw the smoke bombs and then they have to steal as many of the dummies. Yeah. And on the dummy and they throw the smoke bomb and they have to steal as many of the bells as they can without being hurt. I smell a challenge. I don't know.

I definitely am thinking something very similar. The only way that somebody like this, or actually any of these kids are going to realize that they're kind of on the wrong path is to fail. That doesn't mean that they need to go through with whatever they're going to go through and be arrested and whatever. There's a lower stakes failure state. That's what I mean. Like it's just you got it like, okay, then prove yourself. Go ahead. Go for it. Oh my God. Are we going to set up a heist for them? It is a heist. Next episode name. It is a yes. I stand corrected.

One second thought. So actually, yeah. So Logran goes, all right. We're staying in town tonight at one of the inns. I have something that you want. And he'll like reach his hand over for the silver pendant that Kamara was given. We have something that you want. This came from the church. It burns. You can find where we're staying and get this without us catching you. Then you're ready. You know, when you're arguing with a kid. Yep. It's well, yes, I mean, I guess. Yes, of course. Yes. But there's children tend to speak in definitive's right. Children and presidents.

It's very much this is how it is this and I'm saying it. And then if you challenge them a lot by offering them some sort of evidence to the contrary, there's a short circuit in the brain. And one of two things happen. Either they say no. And again, children and presidents. And then the other way is to just start talking about something else. That that's the new thing that they're focused on. Right. So there's a moment where, like, everyone in the room is kind of looking at each other like, can we do that? What can we? And there's there's no more yelling.

And Chet's going to be like, that's why would we want that? Seems like a lot of effort to what? Prove ourselves to you. I mean, if you don't think you can do it, that's all right. I didn't. No, no, no. Hold on. Hold on. I didn't say we could. You can't do it, guys. He says he can't do it. Yeah. If he can't if he can't do it for us, he can't. He can't do it against the church. He can't even best an old woman. OK. Oh, right. Manhood. That's the he's got a little bit of that. This is a human kid. And like, you know, can I can I log on persuasion with advantage, please?

With advantage. You're you're you're hitting the kid right in the ego like. God, how do I even do advantage on this table? Oh, there it is. Never mind. A 16. His jaw is going to get real tight. Like as you talk over him, it's like you can't do it like it's like he's just like. And there's a point where it looks like he's going to swing on you, like just just like he looks like he's like. But while your back is turned. And if not for very standing there, he might have attempted it. He probably would have gotten very far and he's just going to like huddle up every what?

Like he's like it's that that like couples argument voice like we're in front of him, like you speaking through his teeth and like he's pulling the the the group in here and they're going to start talking to one another. And it does not sound as confident as it did a few moments ago when they were yelling at you. Felix is going to come up from behind. It's like, I don't feel like this is going the way that you thought it was going to go. He says it to me or to just the group, the group, just like kind of like it's like this is right around where you like this is planned or is this going?

No, I was not. This is not what I was expecting at all. I like I'm sorry. I just feel like. I'm sorry she's going to look at it. I don't see the problem. We're still getting that holy man's money, so it's fun though, right? Are you having fun? Let me get some of that blood off you once. I imagine at some point here, especially when the children turn around like. Those hands would come up over your shoulders. I could speak to the children for you if you like. What you have to say is usually 18 and above, so we're going to. Under wraps, but now. But I do appreciate it and you can say it to me later.

Yeah, Kogoth shouldn't be near a school zone, you're right. Legally, he shouldn't be here in this room. He has to introduce himself to all the neighbors. You're going to hear the two talking the most, obviously Chet and Vetti and. Betty keeps like. Firing back and it's getting a little louder each time. Like just like like you know it. They're going to break the huddle and like Basilisk looks like pretty stone face the same aura is clearly disappointed. Clearly, and she's like. Making a show of it, like turning around and just like kicking air and and and Chet is going to cross his arms and turn around.

He cannot look you in the eye. And Vetti is going to walk up. OK, theoretically. What if we went with you? What if we just like joined you like? Obviously, there's so much we could learn from you and you could keep an eye on us and we can get practical knowledge like in the field. You guys are probably pulled off a dozen heists, right? You've probably stolen things since you got in town. Oh yeah. Half of us don't know that yet. That's great. You're two giant gems clanking around. Does she approach my theory specifically with that? Is she kind of addressing her?

I think the group definitely look definitely making eye contact the most with night theory, but like talking to the entire group like she'll like. Like like looking at everybody, but always coming back to my theory. But we get out of town. We're accomplishing everything that you wanted us to do. Our is got family in Lockford. We could end up there. That's fine. We could we could handle the walk, but like just for a while. So already they're talking about walking through the divide, by the way, and then going to lock right, which is in the middle of the Silver Glade now.

And there's a lot, but like again, overestimating their capabilities a bit. We have plans to head south. OK, OK, where south? Where south? I was trying to stop her. It's not working. You you're not going to be able to come with us. We've already got sort of everybody accounted for in our little group here. Anything else makes us a little bit less. Stealthy. Oh, hang on. Huddle time. Now you're huddling. Well, that's how you do it in football. You let them do their time out and run the clock and then we do our time out and we have to run the clock. Yeah, so yeah, I was thinking more Guardians of the Galaxy video game, but that's fine too.

It's like the one thing I know about football. Let me have this. How not exciting it is when they just run the clock at the end of the fucking game. Anyway, so like, he'll pull everybody over. We really got to teach you guys, Orkish, by the way. This is a lot easier when nobody can understand this. Yeah. You need to travel in numbers to get down there anyway. Okay. Hester Holt's a safe town. Maybe they go to Lockford. We're not going through the Divide. Not with them. Not at all. Are you kidding me? No way. I think we call it the Stygian Forest now, old man. I can't keep up.

It's whatever. It's awful. I'm not going to. Higher Riz now? It's listen, if they get to the next town and we part ways, then we got them out of town. We fulfilled our end of the bargain. We got these kids away from those goddamn centuries. If they end up maybe learning a thing or two, we got a lot more items on our list. We could use a hand with, and they need a direction. They need a direction that they're going to find their own, and it's going to get them killed. Yeah, I don't want them in this town anymore. I'm pretty sure one of us has contacts in Esterhold.

We can hook them up with. If they stay in this town for more than 24 more hours, they're probably going to be dead. I'm not joking. I know. There's always the circus. Lots of experience there. Looks at the Goliath. Maybe. And just so you know, the Goliath is the same height as my theory. But somehow he's just always looming over me specifically. He's in the huddle somehow. What are we doing? I mean, we don't need stealth to travel through the countryside. Once we get to towns, that's when we need it. These kids leave town, they need the protection more than we do.

If they left town by themselves, they'd be dead in 24 hours too. So I don't know what else to do. It doesn't sound like we're going to convince them in anything. I didn't really want to be a babysitter, but I can't think of another way. Think of him more as a mentor. I don't know if what I have to teach is something they want to learn. No, you should not absolutely do that. But please don't. Please keep your friend away from them. They are under. Oh my God. Yes, it's already taken care of. I whisper under my breath, I hope. I mean, just a wild card here, but we could turn them in.

I mean, before they do anything terrible. The Heralds will kill them. I hate this place. Yeah, me too. How did you survive here? In a haze. Oh, yeah. Well, let's tell the children. You can do the honors. Nightfear will break the huddle. Wait, do you want any smoke or lights or random calls? You're going to get a shake of the head. Yeah, the time has passed. Nightfear will take off her mask and pull down the face mask too. You guys can come with us. So if that's overjoyed, right? Like totally like again, noises and. Just a steady strength. It's like, we're look, we're not going to cause any trouble for you guys.

We just want to learn from you while we're out on the road. Chet's disgusted with the situation, but like whatever. Felix is a little surprised. And like she's just she's just rattling off. It's like, look, wherever you guys go, we could even get a ride to Lockford at some point and like we can pay you for it. Like ours, mom's like royalty or some shit or whatever. So like we can pay you for that. And that could be like for our training, like she's pitching it as. It's like this is a mentorship. This is like Big Brothers, Big Sisters now. Like this is this is.

Yeah, they're interns is what she's pitching it as. Well, then on that note, you're going to have to listen to everything we say. And when we say hide, you hide. When we say go over there, you go over there. Oh, man. I will teach you how to fight. Don't get me wrong, but also you have to know when to fight. So that he can feel Chet's burning gaze in the back of his. I don't fight. It's fine. It's going to, you know, like trying to smooth it over that getting into an argument, because now it would look unprofessional if they started yelling. It's like we could be a united front.

OK, OK, OK, so. We'll follow your lead. We'll we'll we'll just, you know, we'll train at night or whatever you want to do. And then. Uh, we'll we'll go our separate ways at a certain point. We might have some work for you to we'll see. Her face lights up and even like ARA and and Basil's like and. Lager and watching Chet, he wants to he needs to win this guy over. Chet's OK. So when when it's like we might have work for you, that's the only thing he's been thinking about. It's like our entire plan was we're we're supposed to be a working crew. And like this isn't getting us any closer to that.

And we're not leaving the city making a name for ourselves. And, you know, so like this is the first time where he's like. Like what? But like kind of through a haze of like, I don't care, you know what I mean? For some reason, so sorry, I don't want to do real things, but I almost just said the Blues Brothers were on a mission from God and I don't know why. It's like the right time to drop that, you know, it would be really funny. I don't know. It's funny. It's just not like I mean, we're on a mission from God. No, I don't know why. Kind of the opposite.

All right. Man, we got to see what you're good at first. And as you've pointed out to me several times, I'm old. And because I'm old, I have a lot of people I know who have been doing this for a very long time. I can put in a good word for you with those hundreds of thieves and assassins I know. If not thousands at this point, I can't remember Lager and how many have I introduced you to has to be in the couple hundreds at this point. You can afford to forget a few hundred after a while. Yeah. Listen, a big part of this job that you guys are missing is that it's about who you know and now you know us and that's huge for you.

If I don't mind saying that we got to we have a lot of things that we need to pick up in our travels. Can't do it here. Even we're not stupid enough to pull the heist here. And he looks at Chimera. It just winks at you. So we're leaving town. Fill you in once we're out of here. Maybe you can help or maybe we just drop you off and you guys can do it. Everyone, Esther, get arrested there. You're less likely to die. There's going to be a big, firm hand that's going to just get placed on Lager and shoulder. Yeah. Just get placed on Lager and shoulder. And for the first time, like, you know, Basilisk is going to like address the group.

We should listen to them. There is a great deal they can teach us. And even Chet at this point is like. All right. Yeah. Okay. I guess we'll work together. What do you guys call yourselves? Like, do you have like a cool name or something? We were kicking around the jackals, but like, and then everyone kind of looks at him like we weren't kicking around shit like that is your dopey fucking name that like we have shot down four times. It has been brought up in meetings. That is all business. Well, we have this fort called Frostborn. Maybe that's the first thing you can help us with.

Guys, I think that's a good time for us to stop the evening. I can't wait until Chet sees us in a fight and then he will never talk back ever again. I'm so worried that's the fight we roll a bunch of lonesome. Yeah, that's true. Just absolutely just get. Yeah, there was one time I was like, I'm going to throw a dagger so it lands right next to his head and like, then I'm going to throw a one and kill this kid. I mean, you get the other three to listen for sure. Anybody else want to mouth off? What about you, tall kid? Tall, respectful child. What about you?

I hate them. I am so glad this ended this way. This is fucking amazing. I can't wait. I can't wait for this. Like, I can't wait for you to get to know them. Like, this is going to be great. It's a terrible idea, but I can't wait. Like, it's the worst best. Only option for them. Truly, if it left to their own devices, they would be dead. I mean, marshals, after a certain number of levels, get followers. It's just a mechanic as part of the class. So it's like an internship. It really is. You make it six months, then you get placement within the company, and then we start paying.

I mean, I also get goons at some point in my criminal. I get to be part of the gang. I get to lead a gang. Jackals. Like, Oh my God, it's going to take off. We can divvy them up. We can each get a follower. Now we've all got an apprentice. Yeah, I do not want the Goliath. Oh, I'll take the Goliath. You get Chet though. Oh no, I'll take Felix. Oh, I bet. - That's weird. [LAUGHTER]
