What Happens
The party ventures into a rat-infested cave to collect blood from a wererat queen to cure Ora's lycanthropy. After fighting through young wererats in the entrance den, they engage in a multi-phase boss battle against the diseased, pustule-covered wererat queen. Despite Nythera being temporarily blinded by acidic pus and Chet being knocked unconscious by a critical hit, Ruby delivers the killing blow. They successfully collect the queen's blood for the cure.

(eerie music) - Oh, let's do that thing where we go around the table and introduce ourselves. Jason, I'm the Dungeon Master going around the table, starting with Susan. - Hi, I'm Susan Spinnater. My pronouns are she/her, and I will be playing Nythera Ryleth, the elven rogue. - And Ian. - Hi, I'm (clears throat) Take two. Hi, I'm Ian. (laughing) - I'm ready to go. I got a muscle that I'm breathing. - Hey, girls, I'm Ian. - God, I love it when you use your real voice. - Yeah, yeah. Usually I have the Muppets sub in for me, but today I decided that I'm gonna be.
He, him, and Ian, I am playing Chimaera, the tiefling warlock. (laughing) - And Jameson. - Hey, it's Jameson. I'm playing Logger in Kragborn. He's a dwarven marshal. - And Nashville's own Jasper. (laughing) - Only for a couple of days, and I'm Jasper. I play Ruby Pettigrew, the half-orc gear slinger adept. - But now use your real voice, your Nashville twang. (laughing) - Yeah. - Well, that's Ruby's. That's Ruby's twang. - Oh. We have a tab to settle up before we really get started today because you guys are marching into what could be certain death, and I wanna make sure that all XP that you guys have coming to you is distributed.
Now, here's how we're gonna do it. I thought a lot about this, and obviously any XP that you guys earned before your party expanded with teenagers is just yours, just the four of you. There is some stuff we have to settle up after they joined. So for dealing with the quest of getting the unsavory element out of Aubrey, the priest gave you, you get 1000 XP. - Oh. - Divided four ways, obviously. Hold on. And then for taking on these teenagers and helping Felix out, it's 1500 XP because that's quite a lot of responsibility. So, so far that's 2,500 XP divided four ways.
Everything else is monsters, and we got two wererats at 450 a pop, and then four younglings you blew up at the end of the last session, there are a hundred each. So 2,500 divided four ways. - 625. - Thank you. We're gonna be dividing the rest eight ways, and this is gonna get, obviously it's going to get a bit more difficult because there's more of you. So if you guys pull this off, the splitting it eight ways won't hurt as much. So 625, I believe Susan said. - Yes. - And then another 162.5, which technically puts these young adventurers at level one. They're officially adventurers now.
They can, they have all the rights and privileges afforded regular adventures, except they have to listen to you guys. - Hey, we, oh, it rounded mine up when I put the .5 in there. - That's okay, round up to the nearest, that's fine. - Oh, he'll take it away somehow. May not be XP, but a finger, character death. - Don't get ahead of me, don't run the session, hold on. We're gonna get there. - This is gonna be, this is gonna be a big one. - Oh, it's gonna be fucking nasty. I'll get into that in just a moment. - First things first, does that level any of you guys up?
No? - Not for me. - How far are we away? - Probably 800. - Yeah. - Okay, all right, that's good. All right, last time we left off, you guys were just about to enter the mouth of this rat cave here. Your objective is to go in, kill this fucking rat queen, get her blood, cure Ora if they, you know, if she's, you know, actually, you know. Is there anything you wanna do before you walk in? 'Cause this is it. And I am going to be so straight up with you guys. This is our first boss fight of Frostborn. And I have had so much fun prepping it. Oh my God. There's multiple phases.
It's gonna be fucking nasty. It's gonna be terrible. - Worse. - I'm not good at quick time events, so I hope that those are minimal. - Nah, that's a mid 2000s type of thing, don't worry. - Oh, did they not do those anymore? Okay. - Not as much, you know. They used to end video game boss fights with those. It was terrible. - Now it's kind of in the battle, like expedition 33. - Oh, I fucking love that game. Ripping my guts out. I hate it. I love it. - Okay. I do wanna cast one thing. I'm gonna cast a false life on myself. And it is, so there's just like a shadowy figure kind of like forms up and everyone can see this.
I don't know if the kids have seen any of this before, but a shadowy figure sort of like forms up and doesn't really take too much form, but just sort of like kisses Chimera on the neck before disappearing. And I get some temporary hit points. - Nythea is gonna coat both of her daggers in black blade. - Black blade. - Can you guys see the map? - I have a black screen. - Black screen. - Son of a bitch. Okay, you know what? Don't care. That's fine. It's fine. It's fine. Hold on. We're gonna try something here. - Hey. - Here we go. - Here's an overview of the cave, basically.
Now who's leading the way? (suspenseful music) - It's probably Logran. - With Nythea close behind. - Okay. - Yeah, and he'll, before we go in, he will turn and look at the kids and be like, stay close together. Stay behind us. Nobody's a hero here. - 10 for Logran, 14 for Nythea. You guys walking in here, there's this gradient shift, basically, where the snow and the kind of the wind and everything from outside, blanket the basic entrance of the cave. And then as you walk in, you're going to see thousands of little footsteps, right? You're gonna see just grime and filth.
You're gonna see rat poop everywhere. You're definitely in the right place. And the first thing you're gonna come up on is this den of young wererats, basically. These are wererats that have been birthed here. And to go any further, you're gonna have to go past them. And they kind of congregate in that. You can hear them kind of like rustling around. It's the same noise, the ones that ran toward the big boom hole you guys made, same noises. So you know what to expect. They're just smaller versions of wererats. Now, the good news is that young ones can't infect you with that curse.
So getting bitten isn't the worst thing in the world. - Oh, is it still within 24 hours of our last fight? - Yeah, unless you guys can't, like a long time. - Okay, then I am immune and someone else is. - Yeah, well, you can't get it from these guys anyway. - Well, I'm just thinking for future. - Double immune, you got it. - Oh, me too, yeah, 'cause I got snapped at. Yeah, okay. So is it like, are we talking like we're gonna have to take care of these things? Or are we talking there's just like a blanket of rats on the ground that we're gonna have to step on basically?
- No, they're about the size of like halflings. - Oh, okay. - Yeah, they're congregating. To go any further, you're gonna have to, like they're about to charge you is what I'm saying. They can smell you and they're going to. - Yeah, yeah. - I gotcha, I gotcha. This is a courtesy squeak face. - I'm going to throw a bomb. - Okay, do you have a bomb? - I have bomb, no, I don't have a bomb. I'm just gonna go fight them. (laughing) - How many again are there? - So there's four of these guys. - All right. - No one here. Wait, hang on. - I switched to my non-coated daggers.
- Yeah, save those. - Yeah. - Ruby's gonna talk to these kids behind us and just say, your job is to stay back and to let us know if something comes out from behind us. You look that way, pointing back out to the entrance of the cave. - It's gonna be real gross anyway. - You're not gonna want to see this. - Right click yourselves and add yourself to the combat tracker. - Interesting. - Okay. - All right, there we go and rolling for initiative. - Oh. Eight. Oh, 20, who got a 20? - Vetti. - Wow, Vetti. It's all that training from this morning. (laughing) - I'm pretty eager.
- Okay, well, yeah, let's keep it simple. She's just gonna move out here. She's going to sidle up with the doorway of this thing. For those of you listening at home, there's just kind of a natural cave thing. So there's a room off to the left-hand side and it's just filled with rats and filth. So kind of a nursery of sorts. And she is just gonna just throw this out. Just fire short bow. Target the one closest to the door here or the opening. Oh shit, wow, okay. That's a dirty 20. - So proud of you. - I do like how Ruby was like, "Hey, so watch our backs." And then he goes, "Okay, sure." It pushes past all of us.
- Right. - And shoots up in the head. - I think the assumption is you guys are gonna go into the room. So she's getting out in a position where she can look down each hallway type of thing. Like it's not disobeying so much. - I mean, she's being smart. She's being smart. - It's interesting that she interpreted it that way. (laughing) - Well, I think this is part of being on a team is the thing. Pippin and Jordan didn't work together instantly and just know what each other were thinking. - I thought for one second that you meant Bree's dog. - Oh, the dog. (laughing) - That's what I meant until she said Jordan.
And I was like, okay, oh, got it. - Jordan is the actual rat that they also purchased to hang out with Pippin because nothing else will. - Should. - Both a lot of tongue action. - Although I'll say this for Pippin, didn't grow a Hitler stash. I mean, you know, I'm just saying. - Like smart, smart move. - Just saying. - Boop, boop, boop. - Oh my God. - Bloody hell. - Now these things cannot infect you, but they can bite. So we're gonna bite. This one's to Betty. That's not gonna hit shit. Nine. - Yeah, Logger's gonna yell at her. It's like, that's why we told you to stay back.
- I thought you meant the hallway and look both ways. Like it did just trying to explain in the thick. - Yeah, no, the plan immediately goes to shit. Yeah, exactly. So we're doing drills tomorrow. - Whole group. - Everyone's doing laughs. - All right, Kamira. - Kamira's gonna say, do y'all have that one with Betty? - I got it. - Nythera, thank you. I'm gonna go light some of these up. And Kamira is gonna, how far can I get? I think I can get here. - That's inside that little room. - Yeah. - You're hit with a smell. - Yeah, oh God, yeah. At least it's cold. You know what I mean?
Like if it were a hot summer day, this would be so much worse, but you know. - I like to think that it's probably hotter in there because it's like a den. So there's like a miasma. - I think I've got to, Jason, give me a call on this 'cause maybe not. I think I can hit this guy. I've got a 15 foot cone on this and it looks like it's not the second one. Okay. - No, no, it's gotta be half or better. - That makes sense. That's fine. I don't like it, but it's fine. - Yes. - If you turn the cone one square to the right, it should. Like if you put up the cone again and then just, can you just move it one square to the right?
- Well, the thing was it was touching like 5% of the second wrap. - Right, I'm saying, but the square next to it was full. So the way like the 15 foot cone works, if you pivot it, 'cause he's only 15, in a straight line, he's 15 feet away. So you should be able to position the cone to hit the one that's further away. - Did it this way. - Oh, okay, hold on. - Oh, it still doesn't. - Is that a 15 foot cone? - Yeah, it was tried moving it further to the right though. Rat's got his own little cone going. - The rats, everybody gets a cone. - Cone of stench. - No, that's all.
- It still won't do it. - Yeah, it still won't. It doesn't look like it's gonna do it. - Yeah, 'cause if it was in this portion right there. - Nope. - It really just doesn't wanna hit that square. Okay. - I think the lighting up the entire square is a courtesy that doesn't look like that's lighting up a whole square. - That's okay. I will get this one here and stick out my hands and cast some burning hands on this thing. - There is a dexterity saving throw. - Oh yeah. All right, let's see. - It looks like it's hurt already too. Is that unintentional? Yeah, Vetti shot him.
Oh, okay. Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha. - Oh, that rolled like poops. So a four. That is going to kill that rat. Burning alive is what it's gonna do. Thanks for softening it up for me, Vetti. She's got her bow in the mouth of the rat that's attacking. (all laughing) You're doing great, sweetie. - Thank you. - Ruby. - Ruby's gonna look at Nythara and say, "You mind if I take care of this?" And she's gonna point over at Vetti's were-rat. - Yeah, go ahead. Take care of her. - All right. She's gonna just run on over and she's going to... - You're now flanking that rat. - Yeah, sure I am.
And she's just going to unarmed strike or attack. Oof. - That's 16, that'll hit that rat. - Fantastic. - Five bludgeoning damage right to the back of the rat's head. - Fantastic. And then she is going to flurry a blow is right on top of that as her bonus. I will find it. Flurry of... of... blows. - Oh shit. - Nice. - Damn, 17 hits. You will beat that rat to death with two more punches, yeah. - Yeah, so she's got this one big old punch and then she's gonna flurry a blow. And on the last one, she's gonna turn back over and wink at Nythara right before she smashes it.
Just like a... We got this. - And then Nythara will do that thing, like nodding her hat, but like no hat there. So that nod. - The m'lady tip is what you're referring to. - That's it. - But with no hand movement, there's the head movement. - So not to slow down stuff, you do have to make two separate attacks for those two. So what it did was it did one attack and then just two damage rolls as if you hit twice. Does that make sense? - That's flurry of blows, right? I mean, that's attack once, two damage rolls. - Yeah, so it's two unarmed attacks. - Yeah. - But they did it automatically, doesn't that mean that's how it works?
- Yeah, it's programmed that way. - Yeah, so I did one attack, which is an unarmed strike, then flurry of blows, which is, which is two. - The way it reads, it says immediately after you make the attack action on your turn, you can spend one exertion to make two unarmed strikes as a bonus action. - Which is my, so that's my bonus. - So the one bonus action is two strikes. - I'll look it up. I've always read that as two extra attacks. Like it's-- - I think in D&D it is, but it might be streamline for-- - Well, yeah. - I mean, yeah, we'll look into it. - I'll take it away for the moment anyway.
Yeah, all right, okay. Fuck, Baz. - Uh. - Baz is going to slip right behind Laugren and guard the back way here, just kind of like turn around and just make sure nothing's coming in from the cold. - What a good egg. - He's trying to follow it to the letter and he realizes, it's like, okay, that's not what he wants. He wants this, okay, cool. - This one can follow instructions. - Chet on the other hand is fine with moving into the hallway just a little bit. - Okay, Laugren notices Baz move behind him. - Good, good, yeah. 19 will just catch him, yeah. - Watching you.
- So Chet's going to get right here and he's had these throwing daggers that he's never been able to throw before. He's throwing it like wood and stuff like that, but not at a creature. So he's kind of getting right here just to make sure nothing charges out of the room at somebody and he is going to whip a dagger at one of these and that is going to miss, but he has an off hand. - Hey. - And that one will hit, okay, so. - He's going to get a fixed bag on that one. I think he prefers his sword. He's just going to take, it's like bigger sword equals, okay, got it, got it.
- Okay, call out when you're throwing shit, all right? Just a heads up. - One goes a little wide, yeah. - He's just cutting a reef flying all over the place. - And it misses, so he's like, "Well, that's not Nythera for sure." (all laughing) - Ora's just going to move in a little bit to give everybody that lucky aura of hers. Nythera's up. - Okay, and then as soon as you say, "Oh, that's not Nythera," zipping past you, five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30. Oh, it collide with a wall. There's a wall here. - Oh, there isn't. - There you go, there you go. - I had to move one at a time.
- Yeah, they don't like you phasing through. - Okay, zipping past you silently, Nythera goes into the room. She's going to attack with a non-coated dagger. No sneak attack, but I do get Carver. Oh. - Ruby whispers to everybody, "Watch this." It's almost like you're all in for a treat. - Well, shit, that is a, that's our first crit of the night and it wasn't on you guys. That's fantastic. - Yay. - That's good, I like that. - Really like that. - Do you want to see if this rolls on the crit table? - Yes, yes I do. - Okay, give me D6 please. - Will do. - I think they were all like throwing shit and firing fireballs into this cave and Nythera just runs in and it's pitch black in there and we just hear shit just getting cut up.
(all laughing) - All the squeaks just stop. - Yeah, one of the rats reaches out and Nythera pulls it back in. (all laughing) - Khaimera just leans against the wall. You just see him on the outside, just like leaning like. - Logrin doesn't usually smoke, but he gets a cigar out. He's just like, "Yeah, all right." (all laughing) - But like taking your time with the cigar, like, you know, doing the, you know, cutting it. - He's like trimming it, he's like checking the end. (all laughing) - Should only take a couple of minutes, but. (all laughing) - Six piercing damage to the young rattling.
- And then offhand, of course. - Oh yeah. - Doo doo, Carver. - Oh. - Oh my God. - Almost another crit. That's a two, that's gonna miss. - It's okay. - Chet missed once too. It's fine, like it's just. (all laughing) - Oh God, I gotta re-roll. Can't be on the same level as that kid. (all laughing) - All right, shit, that wererat gets to try and bite you. Ooh, I don't think that's gonna do it. 12. - No. - Ah, figured, yeah. - Dodges out of the way. - Yeah, this other one's gonna move down and bite. It's the only two left, so. - Ooh, that's gonna be even worse. A seven definitely doesn't hit.
That brings up Logran. - Hmm, let me move my 15 feet. - Oh my gosh. - Where can I move? - Are you on token controls? - Yeah. Select targets, select tokens. There it is, five, 10. - There you go. - 15. - 15. - All right, excuse me, get out of the way. (all laughing) So, Nythira is out of my commanding presence range. - Aw. - And there's nobody really near me who has, well, Ruby's got a good ranged weapon. You've got the whole gun food thing. - Yep, in fact, she has a combat maneuver where she can charge straight up and attack. - Interesting. - 30 feet. - So, what I can do is I can just, commanding presence just lets you attack as a reaction, so I don't know that you can do that.
- Yeah, no, I wouldn't be able to. - But you can do a ranged attack. So, Logran will get up and just move Ora out of the way, but excuse me, Ruby, shoot that. - All right. Yes, sir. - You're right, get out of the way. (laughs) You won't go on a duck. - All right, and that doesn't add any sort of expertise or anything, that's just, that allows me to do it. - It's a normal attack, yeah. - Great. - If you land a crit, it does an extra 1d6. - Although, hey, you know what? As a bonus action, I can mark foe and you get to use an expertise die on the thing. So yeah, go ahead.
- Still hits, so. - Yeah. - Yep. - Okay, yeah. - So, 18 will hit. Oh, seven bludgeoning damage. That will more than bloody the rat. It doesn't get anything cool, so, you know. - Yeah. - Like that, she'll say. - Yeah, it was pretty good. - Guys, it's round two. - See, Chet, that's how you do it. (laughs) - I hit once. - Oh my God, there's so many d20s. - I hit another zero. I rolled a zero on initiative two turns. - Oh my gosh. - This one's the warmup act, it's fine. - Logran sits down. - Well, this is why you hired Ruby and I. - I know, really. Can't keep up, you guys do it.
- Honestly, if you ask, Baz can just carry you into this. You can overcompensate for that 15 foot thing. - And eat uppies. (laughs) - Can I move here? Is that a problem? Boom. - No, no, you wanna nestle in between those two rats. - I sure do. And she's gonna, so she's gonna say, excuse me for a second. She's gonna run right up to that one that just got pummeled and she's gonna pummel again with an unarmed strike. - Oh, and you know what? Maybe, 'cause you're not gonna get opportunity struck, but let's say to avoid that night there, like reached out an arm, she heard you coming and like pulls you in front of her.
- Yeah. Not good. - Eight will miss. - All right. Yeah, she's just gonna stop there. - Let's see where rat, well, I guess we'll swing at Ruby 'cause Ruby's all nestled in there. So gonna try and chomp down on Ruby. - Oh. - Sheesh. 21 will hit. - Definitely. - That is it. Night there, you're up. - Okay. Seeing Ruby get bit after immediately pulling her in. Night there is going to attack with her dagger and say, get off of her and attack. Now I get sneak attack and Carver. - Yeah. - Eight. - Eight is gonna miss. That would have done 12 damage. - Which one are you targeting? 'Cause I marked one of those foes.
You should be getting an expertise die against it. - Oh, I was targeting this one. - Okay, I would have marked the other one. - Oh, okay. - I'm trying to actually mark it so that hopefully it works automatically. - Actually, well, in that case, I didn't have my expertise on that one marked. - Earlier, but that's fine. Yeah, I was gonna say, it's not gonna matter. - Okay, well it's marked now. I don't know if it'll do it automatically, but it's marked. - Oh, sweet. - Okay, that one's Wily. So with her off hand, seeing the other one. Stop targeting. Okay, whatever.
- It's not targeting? - Okay, now it is. - Ah. - You have to go reactivate token controls. - Yeah, something's weird. - Jump out of it and jump back in, but it's okay. - There might be a patch or something. Something's acting a little weird. - It's fine. Just gotta finagle it. Okay, and then attacking the other one, 'cause that one hasn't gone yet, is going to try to take it out before it attacks me or Ruby. - Oh, shit, that's way better. 19 hits. - Yeah, and 11 piercing damage. - That's a dead rat, guys. Wily no more. - Why thank you, ma'am. - Seeing that one going for Ruby behind her just takes it out.
No problem, gotta take care of this one now. - No sweat. - Last one. Baz is up. Baz is just centering himself right on that doorway. Not moving. (drum beating) - Ora's gonna kinda slide up next to Chimera real quick. - Oh, hey, Garrosh. - Just to like, you know. - Come and watch the show? - She has, so her entire pastime is gambling. Just fleecing rubes. She's really into it. That's how she makes extra money, and that's how she's able to afford nice clothes and shit. So she has these sharpened playing cards. They're like metal playing cards that she uses, and it's just so- - Needs to get that catalog in the mail.
- Yeah, it's like a mall ninja thing. You know what I mean? Like they definitely got that shit. So we're just gonna, for the purpose of this, it's just, I'll just say it's a dagger. Ah, shit, wait. 10 is, nope, nope, that's not gonna hit. Well, she has one more. Let's see if we can keep the 50% average of daggers. - Thanks. - Yes, that will hit. - Okay. - We both thought Ruby and I dodge out of the way of the first one. - Nice. - First one's gonna go wide. - I tell her like, you gotta call out, okay? So say something. Go ahead. - Yeah. - Say something, go ahead.
- Before you throw. - I already, I'm throwing things. Like just like she's just- - There you go. - Thank you. - Yeah, good job. - Do I need a catchphrase for this or like- - I mean, you don't have to have one, but it does help and it makes you look super cool. So I don't know, maybe think of one. - It is recommended, you should do a catchphrase. - Yeah. - All right, I'll work on it. - Love the style though, the cards, excellent. - The one that goes wide, Nythera like knocks it out of the air before it hits us. (all laughing) - I'm imagining like Wild West style ricochet sounds as these guys keep just throwing shit into this cleave.
(all laughing) - Vetti's just gonna fire a short bow again at this rat. Big hit, little damage. 23 hits and just three damage. (footsteps thumping) So Chet. - Let's go Chet. - Chet. - 30 gets him right in front of that rat. - He's probably gonna kill it. - Yeah. - And he's gonna feel good about what he's done. - Yeah. - Big old swing. - Hey bud, this one's all yours. - 17 will hit, five damage, kills the rat. - Ruby immediately high fives him. (all laughing) - Okay, that was cool. - He's probably like, it's like, are you fucking with me? But then it's like, okay.
And then like just immediately kind of lump the sword around and start walking back out. It's like, come on, come on, let's go. Let's go get the big thing. - Wait, collect your daggers first. - That is, there's gonna be, it's like, yes, you're right, okay, yeah, okay. Finite amount of daggers, yes, okay. So there's probably, that's the less cool part because you gotta go, like you gotta look into the, it's like, okay, is that mine or is that yours? Is that, okay. - Yeah. - Okay. - I have my initials in mine, so. - Yeah, okay, yours look like playing cards.
Okay, cool, okay. - Yeah, and Lagerin's like standing at the mouth of the cave, he's like, we're gonna talk about how we listen. (laughing) It wasn't real impressive there. This next fight is gonna be a big deal and I need to know that I can trust you guys to pay attention. Yes, they're dead, but that was dangerous and unnecessary. We're gonna pay attention next time, we're gonna listen. - Fedi be the first one to kind of raise her hands like, sorry, I thought you meant like into the hallway 'cause you were going into the room and then like-- - That's fine, I don't need you to be sorry, I just need to make sure that I can trust that you're gonna be where I need you to be.
- Maybe in the future, just wait until our turn or until we move and then position yourselves behind us. - And great job, but we're gonna work on our what? Our catch phrases. - Catch phrases. - There we go, yes, thank you. Perfect, I can get you a shirtless-- (laughing) - Just the flattest stare, just like, not helping, all right. - Dude, the entire time walking through the rest of this cave, like she's gonna workshop catch phrases, it's like, okay, how about this? I'm dealing death, something like that. - Like is it too much? - You know what, it's not about too much, you're never too much, don't kill the part of you that is cringe, kill the part of you that cringes, all right?
That's the most important part. - In Night the Earth, the log ring, while this is going on, I mean, at least we know when a dagger might go wide on us while Ruby and I are up there. At least we can ask for her. - You sure they don't cause problems? She's gonna sort of be rubbing her arm or whatever got sort of bitten. I'm not gonna, I'm not cursed, am I? No offense, she's gonna sort of, to Aura. - Well, no, I don't know that, but we're about to go get the solution anyway, so just sit tight. - All right. - Just don't get bit next time. And he kind of gives her a little bit of a wink.
- Okay, let's get you guys into the boss chamber. Let's just move you guys in there. - That's what I used to call my car. - Boss chamber. - What? (laughing) - You're right, you're correct. That is the right answer. - That was a weird thing to say. - I wish I had a cool name like that for my car. I call my car Olive because it's green. - That's still nice though. - Yeah, I like that. - You know what was- - I let my cars name themselves. I've turned on the radio and then the song that plays. My first car was Lola. And then my second one was, or my current car is Matilda 'cause it's a song from Matilda played the first time I was in my car alone.
- Nice. - Nice, you just keep getting cars and songs with female names in them. - Right? I got very lucky. - My wife's car is white, so we call it Olaf and mine's green, so it's all Olive now we know because they're the same car, so we have to tell the kids which one to go to. (all laughing) - Are you guys ready? - Let's do it. - No, but I'll do it anyways. - You're gonna continue into this cave and you're gonna see like actual rats, like small rats, like scampering and stuff. They're not aggressive, but you're gonna notice that there's a smell, like a real hardcore smell as you walk further in and as you round this big corner, the snow's gonna have this, the ice and snow is gonna have a green tint to it.
This is rancid, disgusting. It is a hive of disease and ruin. And you're gonna catch a glimpse of this giant cave of this gigantic rat. And, ooh. This thing is massive. - Hear me out though. (all laughing) - When the word pustules is part of the description, I don't think there's any fuckable part. - You're not trying hard enough. - I think she's trying exactly hard enough. (all laughing) - This is a worried friend. This is what that is. - If everyone would do me a favor, right click on your characters, toggle that combat state. - I can't see anything. - Yeah, just black.
- Oh, whap, whap, blam. - There we go. - Oh, this room sucks. - Oh, it sucks so hard. - That's what Lager says, this room sucks. - You're gonna see that even the ceiling has these like, I don't know which one it is, stalactites, stalagmites. I think stalactites are the ones on the ceiling. Stalagmites are the ones. - Yeah, stalactites and then stalagmites hit you in the ass. - Got it, stalactites. - Yeah, stalactites. - I learned it, stalactites hang tight to the ceiling, stalagmites might grow to the ceiling, but I like yours better, Susan. Okay, okay. So yeah, they coat this entire ceiling, like it's all over, so it's, yeah.
- I still cannot see anything but black. - No. - Really, everyone else? - I like the like, it looks like little pollen or fungal spores floating around. - Yeah. - Yeah. - It's like floaties when you look at the sky on a woody. - Yeah. - Try refreshing there, Jasper. - I'll do it. - Nythera does pull up her black mask that covers her nose and she put a bit of mint in her mouth, so she smells that. - It's a remedy for everything. - Yes. - Oh man, do I have anything I can do that with? (laughing) - It probably doesn't like super cover up, but you know, it helps.
- Lagram puts a piece of beef jerky under his mustache. (laughing) It works the same. - There's two sides to this spectrum. - All right. I can see now, all good. - Yay, all right. - Guys, roll initiative. - Oh. - Fuck is this thing? - Good rolls, good rolls. - Not bad. - 1009? - That's better than zero. - Yeah, shit. - This is terrible, I hate this map. It's so good, I hate it. - Oh God, it's so far away. It's gonna take me like eight turns to get to it. - Yeah. - And let's roll for a rat. Oh my God, it's going dead last guys, dead last. - Not terrible. - I like that its name in the combat tracker is a keyboard smash.
- Yeah. - Why is that? - I don't know, it's just ASDF. - The dread rat, Azdov. - Hey. - Oh, you see, there, there it is. - We're rat queen. - No, I like the lore of Azdov. - Yeah, Azdov. - The legendary rat of Azdov. - Well, it is going dead last guys, so. Ora's gonna look to you, like Logran specifically, like it's way, can I move in a little bit? Can I just like, is that okay? - Get to where you can see it and hold your position. (soft music) - Yeah, shit, she is going to move right up behind this, this, this fungal growth up here and just stay. Chad's not gonna ask, but he's gonna do pretty much the same thing.
Kind of like closing that gap and moving, just getting ready to back you up when you move in. He's not charging in, but yeah. - You're gonna be disappointed when I move in. - Right. (laughing) - I'm getting there, I'm getting there. - Do you know what I picture every time he'd describe you moving? Do you guys ever watch a movie called "Med of Honor" with Cuba Gooding Jr.? No, never? It was on FX all the time, so I watched it a ton, but it was about the first black Navy diver. And at the end, he has to wear the entire apparatus to prove that he could do it in court, but he has an artificial leg.
So it's him just like, like stepping forward and it's a great moment, but that's what I picture Logran doing every time he moves in combat. - It's very dramatic whenever he does it, yeah. - Yeah. - Lot of gravitas. - Swelling brass in the background. - Question, is this thing noticed that we're there? - Are we trying? - It smells you coming. - Yeah, you smell not like it. Yeah, so there's gonna be like this shriek in the background, it knows. - All right, well, Ruby's gonna just run straight up between the two of them. And as she's running and getting into play, she's going to use double shot, which means that she's gonna, if she hits, she gets a couple of damage dies here with her wrist ballista.
I'm going to add my once a day D4. - Oh, man. - 13 is gonna miss. - Shoot, all right. She's just gonna just get into stance basically at that point. That's all she'll do. - Okay. Shit, Vetti, Vetti's gonna, oh man, okay. Vetti is gonna double move and get behind this bit here. So trying to hide, just stay, there's like columns in there. You can see the walls for it, but just trying to stay out of the eye line of the rat and maybe sneak shots at it when she can. Chimaera, you are up. - Okay, I'm gonna take a shot at it with an Eldritch Blast from here, no less.
- That's a long shot. - Yeah, oh, I got room to spare 'cause this is 120 feet, baby. - That's good, keep that distance. - That's good. - Yeah, exactly. - Not a lot of damage. - 17 will hit for one damage. That is the first bit of damage done in this combat though. - It's a result of being bloody. - I was about to say the same thing. (all laughing) - Now, I assure you the boss bar did move. It just may have been a little hard to perceive. - That was a warning shot. Now it's sufficiently worn. Everyone, go for it. And I'm gonna get down here with, no, I'll go here with Betty.
- Nythera, you're up. - Okay, as the crowd rushes forward. Nythera does too. But I just wanna make sure I could get around that wall. Oh, 25. Third, no, I think that's third. Okay. Yes. - I forgot to do a thing. I'm rolling a D20, pay no attention to me. - I see a 13 that was rolled. - Yes, yes, pay no attention to it. - No, I'm paying all the attention to it. - Stop, told you. - Not good at following instructions. Okay, Nythera is going to take out a short bow that's been on her back this entire time, guys, that she's never used, and take a shot. - This is the time.
I feel like a crit coming on. 15 hits. - 15. - Three piercing damage. Every little bit counts. And wait, oh my God. I have a free bonus action that I never, ever use. 'Cause I'm always doing off hand. - Yeah. - It's always used. Okay, so I can do a cutting action. Eh, whatever, that's the end of my turn. Nythera shoots with bow. - Okay. (dramatic music) - Logran, you're up. - There's such a hurry for, God. Five, 10, 15. He's gonna say to Orr, okay, now shoot it. He's commanding presence. - She legit turned to you, it's like, is that why you're moving? That's all I can move.
- This is very heavy. (laughing) - It'll keep you alive. - My legs are really short. - Oh God, Baz is going to what? - Did she not shoot? I did use commanding presence to make her shoot. - Oh, I thought you were just being, I thought that was just being played. I thought it was a bit. - But actually shoot though, please shoot it. Shoot it, shoot it now. (laughing) - I'm not joking, turn around, stop looking at me, shoot it. - Throwing daggers, ho! - Hey, 15 hits. - There we go, thank you. - She's done the most damage so far. - Does she get an offhand with that or is it just the one throw?
- It says they can make an attack as a reaction. So I think it's just whatever constitutes a single action. - Yeah, okay, Baz is going to move right up next to Logran and he'll actually ask, do you want me to carry you? - Oh, geez. - This is my favorite bit. - No, just throw a rock or something, will you? - He's got a dart that he uses. Oh, Jesus Christ, that hits. - For zero damage, wait, what? - How? - 1d4 minus one, is it his dexterity? - Oh, his dexterity is minus one, so it, yeah, he rolled a one and that's a zero. So it does hit the rat. It just like, like nothing happens.
He's still growing into that body. It hit a really like tough part of the rat. - Like a callous. - Yeah, popped a point. My bad, hold on a second. Round one isn't over. The rat, the rat needs to go. Silly, as diff. (all laughing) - Legendary as diff. - It's a legend of as diff. All right, okay, okay, okay. So this wererat queen is going to charge at the party and it's big and it's slow and it is coated in just boils and it is so, if there's an ailment, it hasn't. Like it's the Mr. Burns thing where it's so infected that. - Everybody keep as far away from it as you can.
- Do best in close quarters. - But it stinks so bad. - You guys should really invest in masks. - It is going to rear up on its hind legs and it is definitely preparing to do something. - I don't like this. - That is the end of round one. There they go. - Doobie, you're kicking things off and then it's the queen. - No me gusta, all right. Yeah, she's staying as far away, not as she can, but she's staying her distance and she is going to yell at everybody, get as far away from it as you can and then she's going to use her wrist ballista. - Oh God. - Man. - That's an eight.
- Things are just bouncing off of this thing. It's so disgusting and calloused and tough and maybe slimy. It's just not sticking. - Possibly has eczema. Like it's just, yeah, it's a lot. - Oh, it definitely has eczema. - Ruby's going to try to also just move over a little bit to the side just to maybe get out of its field of view a little bit, start flanking it a little bit. - All right. - The wererat queen is going to slam into the ground. And I need everyone in the party to do me a favor and roll a D20 and whoever rolls lowest, we're going to do a thing.
- Awesome. I think that's me. - Well, the kid's got to go too. - I'll take it. (laughing) - Chet. Okay. Baz, that's a three. I think that's our lowest. Ora. - Not good boy Baz. - Oh no. - Oh, shit. Okay. - Poor kid. - Shit, okay. 19 for Vetti. So Ora is going to have to do a dexterity saving throw because one of these stalactites are going to dislodge and come right for her. - Oh God. - And anyone within five feet of her. So I need Logran and Baz to also give me a dexterity saving throw. - Oh my God. - This should have come for me. - We're looking for 12 or higher. Woo, shit.
Logran 19, good job. - Put the shield over your head. - Yeah. - Logran cartwheels out of the way. (laughing) - Oh shit. Okay, so Ora rolls a 20. She's fine. No damage whatsoever on a save. And our very dexterous boy Baz gets to roll now. And ooh, seven. - Yikes. - Oh, eight. Sorry, the save, yeah. He's proficient in decks. That's the saddest thing. So he gets a bonus to a save. That is 3D6 damage. - Oof. - Okay. - Nine damage to Baz. That will knock him out. - Oh no. - So big ass stalactite dislodges and just, it hits his chest and shatters outward. And just, it's enough to just knock him straight out.
- I'm gonna say that he stepped in the way here a little bit, making sure everybody, right? I mean, come on Baz. - It's definitely his fault. - Good shit. - It's definitely his fault. - We're gonna have a chat afterwards, boys. - Ora's got a sling she's gonna try. - She's just gonna try and hit this rat. God, okay. Sling, fire. Oh shit, okay. So 20 hits the rat and that is four damage. This thing barely looks like you've done anything to it. Like it is, yeah. It's just big and nasty. Baz has got to give a death saving throw. 14. Don't know why that was private, but it's okay. 14, so that's a success, that's one.
Oh shit, okay. Vetti is going to try and get behind this thing and just use that short bow and fire on it. 14 misses the round. 14 misses the wererat. - Yeah. - Logran, you're up. - Logran's gonna move forward 10 feet. He is going to, as a free action, plant his tower shield and I want to drop a select height on its head. No, I mean, that'd be cool if it works. If not, that's fine. What he's actually gonna do is use... - If you want to fire one of the slack tights above it, you can. - No. - Fine, all right. - I have a violently ranged weapons, a hand axe with a 20 foot range and those are nice hand axes.
- Okay, yeah, that's probably not gonna do it. - So instead we're going to use... Rallying Surge as a bonus action. We are going to choose an ally within 30 feet that can see and or hear me that regain the hit points to 1d8 plus martial level. Do they need to be a conscious for me to be able to use that? - Well, they need to be able to see and hear you, right? - Okay, well, so shit, okay. So I can't actually use that to revive somebody who's unconscious then. - Yeah. - Before I move, then I'm just gonna pop a healing potion on this guy. - Okay. - So I'll do a healing potion first and then move.
But the real healing potion is gonna go like this. - And the six healing. Very nice. - Excellent. - And then we'll move and then we'll plant tower shield. Using a potions is standard action, right? - Activation cost one action. - Yes. - There we go, okay. So in that case, what I'm gonna do... - That's why. - What's up? - I targeted you for it, that's why. - Oh, oh, oh, oh. - It's all good, I got it. - Cool, thank you, yeah. - Yep. - Out of instinct, he starts to drink it and goes, "Wait a minute." (all laughing) Pours it on him instead. - That's not whiskey. (all laughing) - What we are gonna do though is activate dwarven toughness as a bonus action.
So we're gonna get seven temporary hit points. And that is my turn. - Right, that brings up Nythera. - So ringing through the room as no one go near it, stay far away at Nythera with those words. Bouncing off the cavern walls, she steps up to it. And with a coated dagger, she's going to swing at this thing. - That's with the black blade? - Yes. - Ooh. Oh baby, that'll hit 19. - 19, okay, so that's an additional 3D6 that I have to roll in damage for the black blade. - Nine more damage. - So 14 total. And then Nythera's gonna do something she never does. She usually does a bonus action and uses that to attack with her off hand, but she doesn't wanna stay near this disease ridden thing.
So she's gonna use her bonus action. Oh wait, no. Before that, I'm gonna use a maneuver, perfecting flurry to do another attack. Ha ha. Okay, so that's a maneuver I'm calling it. I used one of my maneuvers, one of my two. - Oh, yeah, let's go. - I already used the black blade. It's already in it, so. So that's a nat 20. - Shit, okay. - I'm gonna see if I roll on the table. Nope. - Oh, we're not, we're not doing that, but. - So I did 22 damage. - Jesus, okay. - I applied damage, all that. - Yeah, it should do it. - Oh, to me, it did it to me, no thank you. - Oh, don't, nope.
(laughing) - Nythera stabs herself. - Gosh, is that what I've been doing to people? (laughing) - There we go, got the boss bar working. Ha ha. - Nice. - I think it's demoralized. - I think it's- - Well, I haven't applied the damage yet, so. - Oh, good. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. (laughing) - Good, I think it should be at least halfway down if we're taking constructive criticism. - And for our trouble too, maybe a little further. - Yeah, just like a little something off the top. - Hey, keeps going down. - Yeah, all right. - Anything else? - Yes, so the perplexing flurry was a maneuver.
So with her action, she stabs it and then kinda like pulls it through to do the perplexing flurry, which applies the additional damage. And then Nythera's gonna like back flip out of there and use cunning action to disengage. - That's hardly fair. - Yeah, and get out of there. - All right. - So in her other hand, usually there's another dagger. She uses that to like leap back and just like tumble backwards. - Chet's gonna charge this thing. He's gonna look longer than the eye. He's like, "We gotta surround this thing quick before it brings the entire ceiling down." Like he's, there's logic behind it, but like, he's just lifting that sword and he is running straight for this thing.
- I mean, Lagerne yells after him, but he's not hopeful. - Or long for this world, honestly. - Yeah, this guy's, this kid's toast. - He's good with a sword at least. - 19, almost a 20, 10 more damage. - The problem is it probably like hits this thing and he's gotta like, oh God, wiggle it out. Like it's just kind of a soft fleshy pustule filled belly. - After this, we'll have a big session about how to clean your weapons after combat. - Yeah. - Disgusting. - Throw those away. - We'll get new ones. - Chimera is up. - Okay, Chimera is gonna move in here by Nythera.
- Oh, hey, Chimera. - Yeah. - Hey, just right behind you. - And he is going to curse this thing. Hock to a curse on this thing. - Cut. - All good, I got you, baby. There we go, thank you. - Cursed, it is so cursed. - And you mentioned stalactites. Is there one above this? - I did mention them. There's some all over, yeah. Do you wanna give it a shot? - I would love to, and I would love to Eldritch Ray one of these things right above its head, if that is doable. - Yeah, you just got to hit for 14. - Okay, got it, got it. I guess I'll just target the, do you want me to target the queen?
Is that the way I should do this? - Sure, whatever, just roll an attack, you're good. We'll figure it out. (dramatic music) - Oh, 24 definitely hits. Oh God, this thing's got to try to dodge. Oh shit, it rolled a 20. So it is gonna dodge. Oh fuck, so by the, okay, well. - Hmm, no, I'm not gonna do that because hers is more of a pressure thing. I was gonna say Chet would have to roll two because he's adjacent, but it's not a bunch of stalactites falling. It's just the one focused one. So right, yeah, it's the one above her head. Anything else? - Hmm, do you know?
I think that's it. - That is the end of round two, round three. Oh shit, oh boy. - Where Rat Queen goes first. - Well, she's gonna try and bite Chet. - Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. That was a lot of dice. - That's a lot of dice that's gonna miss Chet though. Okay, so she's rolling a 12. He's got a 14 AC, so it's just, oh God. Like it is, it is like this thing has to like pull back to kind of undulate, move forward and snap down with its jaws. But he definitely would have been in her mouth if that would have hit. So, so, okay, all right. Ruby's up. All right, so Ruby's gonna see Chet number one run up there and be like, oh hell.
And then whenever that happens, whenever this thing is gonna try to bite him, she's like, God dang it, all right. Fine, she'll say loudly to everybody. And she will run up next to this thing. And as she does, you're gonna hear her glove. She's gonna do something to them. You're gonna hear some sort of powering up happen here. And she's gonna try to jump up a little bit and then kind of slam back down. Now this is not the shield move with with Lagrin, right? She's not getting any special bonuses, but this, it's, you know, she's got a little spring in her step.
And she's gonna try to do an unarmed strike. However, she's going to invoke for the very first time, this gift from the ghost, the tyrant's teeth. - Ooh. - Now what tyrant's teeth is basically gonna do, it's once per day, she's gonna hit with a melee attack. And let's just see if she hits first. Let's try that. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Ooh. - Oh shit, 20 hits, baby. - All right, great, fantastic. So what this is gonna do on top of that, so, and again, this is the first time this has happened around anybody. As she's starting to punch down, you're gonna see this spectral, it's gonna almost like her glove gets bigger, almost like a hologram around it, but not that bright, but just ghost-like sort of lizardy, almost dinosaur-like maw, like just something just, and just clamps down whenever it hits.
And what she can do is for this 4d6, on top of that, so I'm gonna do 4d6. - Whoa. - 17 damage. - Yeah, she's just gonna, as she comes down and that all happens, she's gonna be, hell yeah. - This creature's cursed, right? - Yep. - So wait a second, just for when you, okay, so whenever Chimera does damage to it. - Yeah, me, yeah. - Okay, got it. - I thought it was a d4 every time, I was like, ooh. (laughs) - No, it's just me. - And, and, oops, she is going to run around on the other side of this thing to flank where Chet is, 'cause Chet's probably not leaving anywhere.
So she's flanking here and also opening herself up in case Nythera comes close again. (dramatic music) - Moving around does not, that's not gonna open up any opportunity attacks just to move around a foe, right? - No, no, no, no, it's just gating. No, no, no, you're good. You're gonna see Vettie get down low and she's gonna pull this dagger out and she's going to start moving very quickly, like low, and she's going to try and sneak attack this thing. Like now that we're flanking, like it's, it's basically like, okay, like if we all surround this thing, it can't hit us all.
- But we can all get diseases. - Yeah. - Oh, it totally could. - It has a tail. - So I guess we're just not doing the plan then? Nobody's doing the plan. - Oh, let's go. - My girl. - That's a crit, baby. - Oh. - I trained her. I trained her, that wasn't mine. - Wait. I accidentally did the damage to her, my bad. - Oh no. - She trips and falls on her knife, crit. - It's one of those nights. Let's see if we're rolling on the crit table. Oh, that would be so helpful. - Yes, we are rolling on the crit table. (dramatic music) - 11. In addition to standard critical hit damage, you knocked the target unconscious.
- Whoa. - And constitutes that, well, that doesn't work on a creature bigger than you. So I guess we get a re-roll, huh? Like this is three times her size, so. - 17. (laughing) - Concussion. You smashed the target in the head, causing massive damage. In addition to center critical hit damage, you give the enemy a concussion. It has to roll a con saving throw of 12. Oh Jesus. Yeah, it's fine. It rolled a 22. - It's a plus seven. - It's fine. But crit damage was done. Shit, that means, okay, okay. We got ourselves a convoy going. Chet's gonna swing again. D six for expertise die.
- Is he double flanked? - Well, now that it's flanked, anyone who joins it ups the die value. That's what I asked. - That's a D six, yeah. - D six, oh, I'm sorry, I missed her. - 22. - Hits this giant rat. Okay. - He's not wrong, he's doing good. - Yeah, he's doing good. As a result of being bloodied. - I'm glad I'm not near it. Jasper, yeah, it's really good not being near it. - I get to roll a D six and there's a thing that happens on, you know, so I don't know what's gonna happen yet. So this is great. - Two swarms of rats begin streaming into the room. - We're gonna say they were streaming out of the queen.
- I mean, yeah, you know what, we can go with that. Sure, she just like gives birth right now. - Oh, or they were crawling all over her fur and we didn't know. - Oh yeah, they're in folds to keep warm 'cause it's so cold. - Yeah, that's good. - It's like oogie boogie, but rats. - See, this is the kind of story building I love doing with you. - All right, let's get some gross rats on the board. I must edit the second queen. You don't wanna do that, all right. - Chimera, you have AOE, right? - A little bit, yeah. - Chimera, you are up. - Okay, oh, Chimera winces, like all these rats just like come off of it, like come out of the folding and even Chimera's like, oh God.
Let's see, he's gonna sun her up here. Let me see if I can, I wanna get this fucking queen in here too, so is that, am I gonna get her there? 15 foot cone here. - I'm gonna say yes this time, just because it's so big. - I'll get just the snoot if I can. - Yeah, you know what I mean? Just poop the shit out of it. - Yeah, okay, cool. Then Chimera is gonna cast Burning Hands again at second level and he's like, all right, let's fry some rats and he's gonna cast it and he puts his hands out and this like flame shoots out from him and it's even bigger than you've ever seen it before and like the shadow that it casts is him but you also see like a large figure like standing up behind him, like almost a shadow behind him sort of like with their hands at, you know, like behind him at his hands, like almost helping to cast this spell.
- It's a Bram Stoker shit, I like it. - Yeah, I'm gonna have to add the additional fire damage if this hits in a separate. - Sure, okay, dexterity save. Let's start with these swarm of rats, just the regular ass swarm. Oh, I don't think that's, nope, they're gonna fry in there and then dexterity saving throw from big rat queen. Shit, 16, she dodges it. I'm guessing there's half damage on a-- - I think there is, hang on. - On a save? - Do, do, do, do, do. - Any spell slot spell usually has it. - Yes, it's half damage, yeah, so that'd be 10 fire damage with that additional curse, so 10 for the rats, five for the queen.
Okay, got it, got it, got it, okay. And then I'm gonna take a bonus action to disengage from these rats and just go back behind-- - Just away. - My Lyra, yeah. Thanks, sweetie, it's all yours. - I'm gonna be gone in a second. - Logrin? - So now I gotta spend a whole bonus action unplanting my tower shield. - Oh wait, hang on, sorry, Jason, it's just eight damage for the swarm of rats. They don't get the curse damage. - Ah, okay, that's fine. - Yeah, that's good. - And we're gonna-- - I just gave them the upgraded level two damage. I mean, yeah, so they're good, still frying.
Still fried, that's great. - Gonna walk up 15 feet. - You are now adjacent with this rat queen. - And he's just shoot daggers at Chet. - 'Cause we're here now, all right. And he's actually gonna, he plants the shield in front of the rat queen, but then he wheels around with his war hammer and hits this swarm of rats next to him. - Oh, okay. - So we're gonna target that and we're gonna make a attack. - Chet will kinda call out to you, it's like, we got this thing surrounded, hit it. Like he's kind of being impatient. - He sure is. (laughing) - Yep. - Oh, that'll hit.
That hits that swarm, baby. - 12 damage. - 12 damage? - Yeah. - Oh, well, it's a swarm, so it takes half of that. - Well, that sucks. - That reduces it to one hit point though. - That's like one little rat scurrying around. - No, I could stare at it and it would die. - Yeah. - So- - That's just all rat. - Yeah. - I'm gonna use Inspiring Leader, which means what it says, I'll just read what it says. "Once per round, when you make a successful melee attack roll, you can choose a number of creatures equal to half your charisma modifier within your commanding presence." My charisma modifier is three.
So do I round up or down? (sighs) I don't know. I'll say go with two. Go with two right now. 'Cause that's like the entire cornerstone of your character. - Right, yeah, okay. So Inspiring Leader, so I'm gonna choose Nythira and Chet. They're both within my commanding presence. They get an expertise die on their next attack. - Yes. - Good. - So he just, he wheels around after Chet's like, "No, don't hit that." And he crushes these rats and he goes, "More like that next time." (laughs) - That's it. - Nythira, you're up. - Nythira's gonna see Logran taking care of the swarm and go, "You got those, right?" And without waiting for response, is gonna dance through to get to...
- The queen. - Yeah, but stay next to Logran. - The eight expertise die right now. - Yeah, and I get sneak attack from being next to Logran. Thanks, boo. (laughs) - Okay, so Nythira is going to palm her off hand dagger again, so now she's wielding two again. She's not gonna jump out of the way and take a swipe at the queen. Sneaky attack, Carver. - Oh. - That is a six. Ora's gonna call out, it's like, "Nope." And she has glimpse the future and that d20 I rolled earlier was a 13. Would you like to take that 13? - Yes. - Her entire thing's luck, like that's, she gets to do that once a day.
- And I'm taking my maneuver as well. I'm sorry, this boss battle, I'm gonna use both of them. I'm gonna be doing purposing flurry again to take two main hand attacks. - I also don't think that your role included any of the expertise die. - Oh, shit, you're right. - Oh. - Do you wanna roll that first and see if it, I mean, I don't know if it's gonna improve it too. - I, even if you roll an eight, I don't think it's, yeah. Just take the 13. - Okay, 13 and then 13 plus four, that's base, 17 hits. - Yes, and then your expertise die is a d8 on top of that. So like you, yeah, you're good.
- Okay. - You're good. - But that takes, it takes 11 damage then from that one. And that, now I'm gonna attack again. So swipe and then brings it down with the main hand. And this time I will include expertise. It's d8. Oh my God. - Oh shit. - Rolled a three. - Can't do anything about that one. (all laughing) - Okay, okay. But now with off hand, and then this dagger is coated in black blade. - Chet's gonna give you a look kind of like, he's not gonna say anything, but just like, come on. Like, just like. - I got it once and then bringing it down. - Yeah, he's, yeah.
He's a little big for his britches right now. Oh my God, that's a crit one. - Okay, well I get inspiration now. - I'm so sorry. - Rolled a two, a three and then a one. Holy shit. - Right? - Well, a couple of crits before, so it's balanced. It's just nature balancing itself. - I've rolled two crits tonight. - It's just usually, you're a Ninja Blender. So like it's, you know, it's the stench. It's so bad. - Yeah, it's the stench and I'm nervous. - Grown accustomed to a certain lifestyle is what it is. - Stench. - Do you want to see if, - Yeah, we should. - Now, okay.
Every time, of course that, okay. Well, shit. We're rolling on that table. - Oh, no. - Oh my God. - You hit yourself in the head causing a minor flesh wound, four damage and you are blinded by blood flowing into your eyes for one D four rounds. - Wow. - Oh. - Night there is having off day guys. - Ooh, can it, can, - Her weakness, it's stinky. - Instead of hitting herself, can it be she like slashed a pustule and it was just like sprayed like acidy goo, like in her eyes or something. - Yes. - Yeah, that's the problem. Like it's tough to like, Jesus, four rounds.
- Three. - One D four plus one. - Oh, okay. - I think, hold on. I could be totally wrong. - I just heard one D four. - One D four rounds, nope, I am incorrect. - Okay. - Three, three it is, I'm sorry. Damn. - Yeah, it's a pustule. - Yeah. - We just hear her screaming. - That's worse. - Stop that, it'll stop the blood at least. So if you get some healing, that will stop it. Shit, okay. Ora's gonna see this and then run up because that lucky Ora might actually help. Like she wants to, it's like, oh Christ, okay. Up, up, up, up, up, moving right up. - Not that close. - Jeez.
- I think she's gotta be close for it to do anything. - Yeah, we are right on top of this thing. Like the dead opposite of what we should have done. She is going to, instead of hitting this thing, she is going to pop the cap on this healing potion and hand it over to, to Nythera. You're bleeding, you got like. - Yeah, real quick, Nythera, blade, blade, blade, only hits once, something gets in her face. And then all of a sudden there's a potion in front of her. She's gonna quickly grab it and splash her eyes. (all laughing) - Potion right in the eyes. - Okay, hand sanitizer.
- And Nythera is gonna go, ugh. - That's not whiskey. - Well, fuck, if we're all getting up here then, Baz is gonna do the same thing. And he's going to, well, here's the thing, he's gonna move over here and try to kill these rats. Like he recognizes that as like, he's gonna do what Logran does. Like he's like, all right, I gotta beat up these rats. Kids, rats. (all laughing) - That's a good call actually, yeah. - Rats, yah-ho, that'll hit, baby. - Yeah. - 21. Four damage, ah shit, well, you know. - 'Cause they were sworn. - It helps. - Yeah. And that is the end of round three.
Because the rat queen is below a quarter health, she's now in the initiative tracker twice. Let's add her again, baby. - Mm. - At least I have inspiration. - Rerolling everybody for round four. - Nythira, swarm of rats, then the queen. - Yes. - God damn it, really going last again, god damn. (all laughing) - Okay, I'll start out the round with hopefully hitting this time. - We're up to a D10, we're at the ceiling. - And good thing about missing with my offhand attack is I still got the black blade on it. Sneak attack, Carver, D10. - Sorry, I said down to a quarter, it's a third, sorry.
- Please fricking hit. - Okay, well. - Oh, holy shit, that'll hit, 23. That's 12 piercing damage. - So after getting the healing potion in her eyes, oh god, okay, better, and then stab. And now with the offhand. - That costs 50 gold to get that out of your eyes. That's a lot, look. - She's worth it. - 22 hits, that's another 11 damage. - Wait, no, it's not, it's nother. - It's not? Oh shit. - It's 24 damage. - Oh shit. Guys, this thing's reeling, like it is, oh, it's reeling. - Don't let Chet finish it, guys, someone else. (all laughing) - He'll be insufferable.
- Yes, he will. - Oh god, he's so low in the turn order, everyone would have to miss. - I kinda want him to. - Yeah, I kinda do too. - So making eye contact with Chet though, after getting the healing potion in her eyes, she will like stab it and then twist the knife in it while looking at Chet, like, okay. - He'll give you a nod, like, good, all right, fine. Like just kinda, kinda, just a little bit. - Swarm of rats, huh, huh. I guess we're just gonna run over here and try and fight Ruby. - That makes sense. - Ten's gonna miss though, right? - Sure is. - Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, they're just rats.
- Yeah, she's kicking these things off with her velocispring boots. - All right, this queen's done fucking around now. - Let's see, okay, let's start off by, so this thing's gonna rear back and it's gonna do that thing that dogs do when they're getting ready to throw up. - Oh God. - And it's just going to, it sounds like a roar slash belch slash vomit. And there is going to be this, it's visually thick breath that is going to fire out. And it's called maddening breath, okay? So, ah, that was a low roll. Okay, so, the wererat queen screams, stripping flesh from bones and reason from minds in a 15 foot cone.
Each creature in the area makes a DC 11 wisdom saving throw, taking psychic damage on a failed save and half as much on a success. So, just right in front of her, right? Just... - So, who's she hitting? - It would be Aura and Baz. Wisdom saved from Aura. Ooh, shit, ain't. And wisdom saved from Baz. Ah, six. So, both of them. Are taking seven damage. That will knock out Baz. Aura's still standing, but has one hit point. Like it's bad. Baz is up, which means, yeah, saving throw. That is a failure. - Mm-hmm. - Logran, you're up. - Logran's just mad now. He's like, "I've had enough.
It's disgusting." He's just gonna hit it with his warrior. - That's fair. That's fair. - That is enough. All right, so how many, what's my expertise with everybody around me? - D10's the ceiling. - D10, all right. - Otherwise, there's no point in rolling. Oh, Jesus God. 29 hits? - Yeah. - Yeah, all right. All right. - So, oh my God. All right, yeah. So, he does that. What's up? - No, go ahead. Sorry, sorry. He's gonna Inspiring Leader again, and he's gonna give it to Nythira and Chet again. Although 10's the ceiling, so I guess it doesn't get better than that anyway.
And he's going to replant his tower shield as a free action. And as a bonus action, we're gonna mark foe on the thing. So we do that. There we go. - All right. - That's my turn. - Well, shit, Vetti's up. - Stop it, Vetti. - You got this, girl. - She's really troubled about seeing Baz go down again, but she's, yeah, she's gonna just try and just short sword it, you know? Just, pfft. Son of a bitch. Oh, that's a three. It is going to miss. Where Rat Queen is up again. Oh God, it's gonna use multi-attack, and it's gonna substitute its one last attack. So it's gonna swing twice, and then it's gonna do a thing for its third, because now it's getting desperate, right?
Let's go fight on Nythira. Fight on Chet. - Oh. - Oh, shit. That is a crit. - Oh my God. - Oh, shit. - What's his health? - 11. So it's not, so, okay, Jesus, God. Okay, we might have to go over death mechanics. First, let's see if that rolls on our crit table. This would be poor timing for that. It does, it does. 11. Knockout blow in addition to standard crit if the target's unconscious. Well, I don't think we have to worry about that. So, okay. That'll absolutely knock him out, and it's one shy of killing him outright, because we're using advanced 5e rules, and it's not half hit points, it is, you know, so.
But that's not good. Oh, damn, so that's gonna fuck Chet up a lot. (dramatic music) And then let's bite Ruby. Oh, that one was, right? - What is it? - Nine. - God, no. No, misses. - And then it's going to kind of hunker down, and you're gonna see these pustules start bubbling, and boiling, kind of. And it almost inflates. So it's going to be like an armor almost, and it's gonna increase its AC to 19. - Oh, goodness. - No more hit points. But yeah, it's, yeah. It is a fucking pain. And Ruby, you're up. - All right, she's just gonna unarmed strike immediately. - Kill it, kill it, kill it.
- I wish. - That's a big D10 you're swinging in there. The odds are you're gonna hit it. Come on. - Come on. I believe in you, Ruby. - 19 hits! - All right. - 19 just hits. - That will kill the rat. - So she's gonna see all this going on, and she's gonna just slam it as soon as it puffs up. She's just gonna try to smash its face, whatever she could possibly do. And if it just knocks it to the floor, she'll just kind of flex a little bit whenever it happens. Not out of arrogance, but out of like, hell yeah, done, enough. - Way to go, Ruby. - Now kill those ones behind you.
- Oh yeah, right. Okay, bonus action. She'll go swarm of the rats. Focus over here. - Honestly, the rats would scatter after this. - Would they scatter? I was gonna say, is that a morale issue? Okay. - It's honestly just like, look, man. - You know what, I hate working here. These guys are so weird. - I ain't got no folds to crawl into after this. Like, this sucks. - So, yeah, you can crawl in, but they'll be cold in a minute. - So she'll immediately, as soon as this thing goes down, she'll sort of flex for a second, like, oh yes. And then she'll put her, kind of like her elbow over her mouth.
And she'll just say, we gotta get out of it. Get what we need to get and let's get out of here. It stinks. - Or is gonna bend down and like slap Chet's face, like get up, get up, get up, get up. But with her other hand, she's got one of her cards and it's just cutting into this thing, trying to get blood, it's like ew, ew, ew, ew, ew. Like trying to get like some in a jar or something. - Nythera grabs whatever she's grabbing, probably like its arm or something. I'll take care of that. Just revive Chet and bows. Nythera expertly cuts an artery, so the most blood comes out and has a flask ready to grab it.
- Yeah, you've got the healing potion that you just poured all over your face. You've got this empty bottle, so you're like, yeah, got it. - Come here, you can go over to Baz and just kind of like help him up, slap him, slap his face a little bit. Come on, come on, big guy. Let's get you up. - He's gonna get up. - It's a good fight. - I did not do well. - You did great. You did what you were supposed to do and that's what we asked. - Turns out that's a rare skill. As he's like got Chet's mouth open and is dumping a healing potion into it. - So under Therian rules, Chet would be dead now.
Like that is, you know, like normally, yeah, but we're doing it by A5E. Like he was one shy of dying, so. - Will it even register for you? - Yeah. - Oh yes, no, no, no, it will. - Okay, well, like it's, yeah. I think it's a good time for us to stop for the night guys. And we'll pick things up after this. And so do you wanna hear something now that we have what we need to cure? She rolled an eight for her con save. So she definitely had it. This was not wasted effort. - Good thing we did this. - That would have kind of sucked. She totally did not have this. This was not an issue.
This was a complete red herring. - And now Chet does. - Yeah, that's true. Yeah, now everybody just take a sip of this rat blood just in case. I feel infected just being in here. - Yeah. Honestly, it's just Mountain Duco red. It's just, you know. It's a sophisticated beverage. You gotta sip it like a whiskey. - Really get that corn syrup. - Yeah. That process flavor. - I will not have people dunk on Mountain Duco. It is precious. 5,800 XP for this kill. Wow. Big girl. - Calc, how many of us are there? - It's 725 each between eight of us. - Oh, that's just shy of leveling you guys up.
- Yeah, it's close. - It's 50, it's like 43 XP. - We stomp on some rats on the way out. (grunting) - Yeah. - Guys, Chet's gonna level up though. - Hey. - Of course. He deserves it. - Yeah. (snorting) - Okay, what can we do to get 43 XP real quick? We gather some fungi in here. - Let's just spar. Let's spar. (laughing) - Let's all take care of Chet and Chet to death. (laughing) - I've got a little bit extra to go. - According to this, I've got 2,700 to get to. - Yeah. - Is that true for everybody? - Yeah, I'm at 2,657. - Oh, I think I did the math wrong. - We should all be at the same 2,657.
- Yeah, we definitely, yeah. - Okay, I just did the math wrong. I was 300 shy. Yeah, let's speed up Chet. Yeah, sorry. (laughing)
